Imagine if this happened in person with a boardgame.
You gather everybody up, set up the boardgame and a couple of minutes later one of your friends who isn't winning at that moment just says "yeah this isn't fun, i'm leaving"
I think you would be lucky if you could still call those people friends if you pulled that off against them. Especially if you have the gal to invite yourself again for the next boardgame
But because this is a video game, that single simple courtesy doesn't exist anymore apperently
You play boardgames with friends, you play online games with randoms and some of the scummiest people on earth.

I also understand that this game can absolutely goddamn blow. I've experienced plenty of it.
I don't, however, have sympathy for people who know this, can't handle the game at its worst, but queue up anyway as it they expect it'll just never happen to them. I'm not asking people to just be stone-faced gargoyles who aren't bothered by anything. I'm asking them to be responsible enough for themselves to not waste all our time with their lack of commitment and go do something they'll actually always enjoy.
They aren't victims of themselves, they're just not smart.
That's one way to think of it, another would be it's a form of protest. Really this has been a problem forever and the devs have done nothing to fix it. So maybe these kind of posts should be directed at the devs and not the players. It should be obvious by now that the players just don't give a #########.

The short answer: Right now, they're a very basic AI that knows how to run and not die to the different powers, but that's about it. It's good enough to get some practice in, but some edge cases like this will happen. We'll be expanding and improving on the feature over time.
The longer answer: Bots are incredibly complex (and I'd love to do a bigger blogpost diving into it if there's enough interest). Not only do bots need to know how to hear, see, and move, but they also need to know what to do with that information. Teaching them all of this is incredibly difficult, unreliable, and costly in terms of performance, so we instead feed them a bunch of information about the match and then dumb them down. They'll know where the Killer is at all times, for example, but we'll prevent them from acting on that unless they have line of sight or hear the terror radius.
In most cases, this works great, but there's still some work to be done to make sure they respect every Killer's power. The Spirit, for example, is invisible while phasing, but the bots don't know that they aren't supposed to know that. That said, she does still provide directional audio while she's invisible, so it's not unreasonable for a bot to know roughly where you are and react to you.
You should add bot dc's and killing themself on hook occasionally. You can't really practice without creating a realistic experience imo.

So you think bad behavior shouldn't be disincentivized somehow? Should either be an escalating matchmaking lockout compared to rage quitting and/or hidden matchmaking parameters that matches suiciders with other suiciders.
When you suicide on the first hook you are throwing the match for the other survivors left in the match.
You act like it's just one group of people that do this, it's most likely most the player base doing this tbh. I would love to see BHVR release those stats. If you DC constantly you're going to be locked out for hours or even days.

Empathy/Fogwise/Stake Out/Hyperfocus: slam gens, get intel on the killer and see how close the chase is actually going.
With the prevalence of three gen situations and Eruption/CoB combos, this isnt a bad build.
I stand corrected, if you choose you can devote your entire loadout to possibly counter eruption as long as you hit a great skill check right before the killer downs your team mate.
-
Mostly that's true, you can't control your team and if they're not pressuring multiple gens the game is over. Pretty sure this was the plan from BHVR so ######### killers continue to play killer so queues aren't so long.
-
@H2H said:
Take empathy, congrats you’ve counterplayed eruption
Yeah empathy doesn't show you the killer so I don't know what you're talking about. There is no reliable counterplay for eruption, that's just a fact.

Even if Steam Charts matched 1:1 on other platforms, there's still not a problem. The game is in a lull point where people are going to play other games until the next rift starts and the mid chapter drops. Being 30K+ players on steam is still stable playerbase. We just came off of a holiday event that people jumped on to play.
My only point was there's no reason to think trends on other platforms are vastly different from steam. I could understand if the game just released on another platform or got some major performance patch that benefited players on last gen hardware but that's not the case.

This only accounts for steam players… you forget all of the console / switch / epic / windows store players.
And you would assume trends on those platforms are different for what reason?

What you mean? How do you know they are banned?
Honestly, on the topic of this discussion, I find the recent rise in SFW players very annoying. Especially with how toxic they are. I mostly play killer, but when I play survivor, I do so with another person normally. We don't coordinate, we just scream memes like "help me Jesus, Wesker is on my ass. Please don't eat my ass Wesker"
Op has a cross through their avatar and if you hover over it it says "banned." Just an observation, I've noticed it a lot lately. I've also noticed a lot of posts and comments disappearing...oh well.

Mandy has already said they will never rework her power to something else because the time it would take to make a new power develope it then test it andbmake changes would be better used making a new Killer or do much more needed fixes to the game.
Too much work, here's a band aid solution. I mean they reworked Freddy, I guess things are different now. A sign of the future of this game imo.
-
Damn I'm noticing a lot of banned users shortly after they make post.
-
Boon: Everyone Escapes Death.
At the start of the match a random totem is blessed. If that totem has not been snuffed by the time the last gen is completed any survivor that would be put in the dying state is instead fully healed and gains haste, this effect repeats until escape or the boon is snuffed. Just snuff boons.

"I just played in a match with someone who had 300 hours. Going up against a killer with 6000."
I mean, that happened in the ranking system too so it's not like this would solve anything.
If anyone on either side took a break and let their rank reset to grade 20 it was a mixed bag with what you got too. It really isn't hard to rank up either, you could get to rank 1 easily and then go against players with 5x your hours and vice versa.
I think it would help with quitters as the old system actually rewarded playing matches out. It would be rare to get quitters after a certain rank due to the deranking mechanic that used to be in place. It also felt rewarding to get rank 1 in the past.

I have to laugh, Windows of Opportunity hasn't been changed in over a year, the only reason killers have an issue with it now despite being incredibly weak is because it's being used more... Just more proof that players will go after whatever ends up being used just because one side likes it, not because its strong.
There might be some truth to that. I feel killers who complain about windows are just very inexperienced and want a reason other than their own lack of skill why a team ran them so well. But I don't feel it's weak, it's a good info perk in solo to know what has been used and also a great perk for new players.

Everyone regurgitates this but people will DC even if survivors have a 80% escape rate and tunneling doesn't exist. It's just an excuse. You should be punished for ruining a game, it's pretty simple.
No there's always been DC's but never as frequent as the past year and a half. The devs have completely ######### on solo survivors which at least use to be the majority of the player base. They removed a ranking system that promoted actually playing matches out and buffed killers (which was needed) however they didn't give solo players (which has always been the weakest role in the game) anything in return. If you want to blame anyone for the state of the game you should blame the dev team.

It's not even the winning, I don't mind losing. It's the hopelessness of it all, like there's no chance to even get decent points or a few fun chases if you're getting camped.
Well I don't have the same experience as you as I don't really get camped a lot, probably because I make it a point not to go down first. Maybe you need to change your playstyle up a bit to prevent being a target. I feel for you though as going down first and being camped/tunneled right away is probably the most annoying thing in the game, and that says a lot given how ######### this game is.
-
Well you play solo so there's no reason to play the game if you care about winning.
-
BHVR listens, they just tend to make the game worse with how they choose to address issues.

I really enjoy solo queue games. I find it peaceful and zen. I regularly meet phenomenal survivors who are often better than my SWF teamates. However, when I play SWF, I invariably have a friend, who is not necessarily even as knowledgeable about the game as I am, who basically tries to micromanage and dictate my every move during the game like they are the coach of me. I have even had friends tell me what perks I am allowed to use. In SWF I also get friends who erroneously think they are higher MMR than me. Another thing I enjoy about solo queue is not always being peer pressured to do voice communications, which I often find annoying. Yet I constantly hear people complain about solo queue, whereas I find it joyous. Does anybody else find solo play preferable to SWF?
Is this like a sick joke? "Joyous?" To each their own, at least some people are having fun.

The problem is - aside from my often made suggestion to let folks be able to see perks in lobby (which itself will also cause some issues), what can change solo queue without:
- Balancing SWF and solo differently? The devs have conclusively said they will never consider this.
- Buffing SWF?
The only thing I can think of, as suggested by someone earlier, is removing kobes completely.
To be honest solo will always be ######### but I think the best solution is a decent chat wheel. "In Chase," "Going For Save," etc. Also give players a reason to play out matches. I know the old ranking system wasn't perfect but it promoted actually playing the game. You can lose and still have a "good" match and rank up and be matched with other people your rank. I know rank doesn't = skill but with how loose the match making is now and how it backfills with completely random skill levels what does it matter.

Sure but also repeated Dc's or suicides should result in week long suspensions leading up to a perma ban. This game is way too lenient in that regard. And yet people defend it so readily.
I don't see a problem with that. Excessive disconnects should lead to actual bans regardless of the cause (rage quitting, shoddy internet.) However there is a reason why this game has such a problem with DC's and the devs really need to figure out how to make this game fun and rewarding for all their players.

@StarLost said:
On one hand, I'm glad it's finally happening.
On the other hand, I'm not convinced it'll really do much.
It's not going to give people the ability or willingness to coordinate.
It's not going to stop that Nancy from suiciding on her first hook, or that Dwight from going AFK in a locker.
It's not going to stop that Meg from running Wesker right to the gen you're doing.
At best, it'll help make Kindred a bit less mandatory.
I've gone back and forth on this one, but I'd really like to see (in addition):
- The ability to see other survivors' perks in the lobby, so you don't end up with 3 Kindreds and 4 COHs. Yes, it might make some people lobby dodge the second they see a No Mither, but so be it.
- Something done to prevent the endless quitters that are probably the #1 reason why solo players lose games.
- Tweak survivor grades a bit, to move points a bit away from the current 'escape or you don't pip' frustration.
If that's the only change that's happening it's not enough and isn't going to change the solo q experience enough to be worth playing.

What killers are much more difficult to learn? Im definetly interested. Huntress requires a lot of skill to master, that I can agree with. Then theres killers that require strategy. Blight, Deathslinger, sure. Billy also perhaps. But definetly easier to play than Nurse.
Really dude what are you getting at, you play Nurse for a few days and get her blink down and develop some muscle memory and you're good to ruin countless matches. Blight requires so much more mechanical skill than Nurse.
-
@Aceislife said:
Nurse does not require a nerf. Nurse requires actual skill to play well. Different playstyle to play as, and against her.

Terrible change from killers perspective. Why do solo survivors need such a buff?
The whole point is for nobody to have all this info when they solo queue so killers can have a chance and a break from highly coordinated toxic swf's.
"Solo lobbies should be easy wins for me." Don't worry dude, they still will be. They need to add a chat wheel for solo players to bring them closer to SWFs.
-
The problem is that "game health" changes the devs make actually end up making the game worse. The devs don't understand their own game.

Doesn't really matter if it's "rage quitting" or your internet dropping, it's ruining the game for other people. If your internet is that bad maybe get a new isp. If you can't get a good internet service, not to be a dick but maybe you shouldn't play.

And I mean new.
I just had a match against two 30-and-up prestige survivors.. and two survivors I could tell just started playing the game. They had green perks, all general or for that one survivor, and from their gameplay I could tell they were confused and terrified.
So I feel bad for the two very good survivors who clearly got horribly mismatched and let them all go. The default Feng didn't even realize I was trying to spare her, she booked it away from me no matter how much I tried to make friends.
Anyone else spare these teams? Or if not, at least these players. I don't have it in my heart to kill new survivors, they're too adorable.
I try to bleed them out, best they quit early before they get addicted.

New killer tactic, jump in a snowman near hook so no terror radius or aura near hook (not that it works if you are running kindred and not the one on hook anyway).
If you are a SWF on coms this is easily passed on to others, but yet again another detriment to solo queue players.
Didn't you get the memo, solo players don't matter.

I'm not making this a killer vs survivor issue as im sure there are survivors like it too.. But why?.. This event is so horrible.

@feechima said:
Something has really shifted in survivors heads and it isn't just "I can't win". There is a defeatist attitude among survivors, especially solo queue that they are already dead or tunneled or camped before it even happens. Yesterday I played a game with a Zarina that killed herself on her first hook against a Wesker and we were 4 gens complete with only one on death hook. Completely baffling. She tilted that game all the way in the killers favor for nothing even though he was a tunneler. And another game where a Vittorio dc'd on his death hook circumvented Ruin which is supposed to extinguish upon the death of a player. His DC didn't register as a death and ruin carried the 3 gen Doc who played Gideons to victory at 1 gen left.
On the other hand had 3 killers DC when they were losing or couldn't catch a survivor yesterday and that is a MAJOR uptick from the norm.
Well there is a reason for that attitude. Playing solo I can tell you what is expected, you go down first and you'll be tunneled out, you go down last and you'll be facecamped, you run the killer for 3-4 gens you'll be facecamped and quite often left to die while your team escapes. I'm not excusing the behavior, but playing solo is just an awful experience most of the time.
