I had at least 1 person a game try to use them on me. I think I had 4 the one game.

Still haven't seen them used at all.

Hey guys, i think this is a good change because i have 2 brain cells and can't find these really easy to see totems that are on every map, that maybe takes 30 seconds out of my gen repair to cleanse it. Also the """"Skill"""" checks are too hard because that means i actually have to put in a bit of effort when repairing a gen which is clearly not fair.

this is also really balanced because the devs nerfed really over powered and unfair perks that had no counter play like: DS and Mettle of Man so this totally balances it out.

also don't whine killers (even though when survivors get a slight change they whine super hard over it).

I have over a thousand hours in this game and great skill checks actually are pretty difficult on console. But I run Small Game so it doesn't matter. I'm off to touch some totems now.

Why are there almost twice as many survivor (13) challenges as there are for killers (8)? [Not counting the challenge for either role] Did they just ignore all the feedback on the archives and rift too?

She is by far the funniest killer to go against. Chases are more dynamic and fun with her, always has been. You need to figure out her playstyle and blink ability - and then adjust your juking. Sadly, she is a very rare sight on PC nowadays. I hope they readjust her so that she feels better to play.

She's always been very rare on console, but I agree chases with her are different from any other killer and always fun.

  • Ghostface is the main reason I've all but stopped playing this game. It's just so boring and so many Ghostfaces are really bad at the game and play the exact same way. Not to mention there are times when 80% of my games are Ghostface. I loved the Scream movies but honestly he's ruining them for me. I wish he'd never been added to the game.

  • Killers already used NOED quite a lot. I pretty much always run Small Game and do all the totems. I've had so many games where I only have time to do four and I die to NOED because none of my teammates can do a single totem, nor do they even try to find it or make a save when it pops. It's kinda sad, actually. Plus so many killers DC that I purposely slow the game down and hope they don't have a tantrum when there's one gen left and they don't have any kills.

Well the survivors need the devs to hold there hand while they play to make sure they can do a gen because hitting skill checks or looking for a totem was to hard.

I personally loved when killers ran Ruin. I use Small Game and cleanse Ruin and NOED before it even pops. I think the problem might be platforms. The frame rate on console is lower and therefor its a lot harder to hit great skill checks. But PC is the only thing that matter, huh?

  • I feel it too. I play on console and thought I needed a new controller. There are times when my character just stops running for no reason and it feels clunky and unresponsive.

  • @Dr_Loomis said:

It was expected. Without Ruin, gen-rushing is in full swing. The survivors are all doing the conga around the map, with a teabag here and a flash-click there.

Not that I give a monkeys, I am having a break from DBD (possibly permanent).

Ruin is still a thing, it's just different now. I love the term "gen-rushing." Always have. Do you want survivors to stop playing the game to hold the killlers' hand?

  • @Rivyn said:

Seriously, four games today so far, and nearly every survivor has Calm Spirit equipped, ready for a Doc. While it annoys me that few people can actually get a feel for Doc with his counter perk everywhere, it does give me a slightly easier time with Trapper and Plague. So, keep at it! Going against three perks instead of four is nice.

All the Franklin's usage today amuses me.

You get less of a chance to do anything. One good chase can wipe out three gens. Killers are getting 3-4 hooks maximum. I’ve also been watching streamers, some of them have actually started seeking out the killer to initiate a chase just to get points.

Oh well if the STREAMERS are doing it, it must be a problem for everyone. Since you know, most of the people who play DBD do it professionally.

  • I run Small Game and usually cleansed within about 30 seconds and am still doing the same thing now.

  • I have never received survival points for a killer DCing. If that were the case, it would make me laugh even harder when killers DC. As it is, I'm annoyed that I've lost out on who knows how many thousands of bloodpoints when killers DC.

  • They're not out yet. Just the charms first and then the Dwight, Nea, and Billy cosmetics on Jan 28th.

  • I wish there had been more cosmetic changes than just the gens though. Like, for the Halloween event, we didn't even get pumpkins littered around the maps.

    Well ok, maybe not lol

I meant that at least you are playing solo and survs get 5k in survival if you DC, but yes, you are right. I correct myself:

    Just dont ######### DC. Ever

I've never received any bp when a killer dcs.

  • I realize I may be in the minority, but I almost never bring anything into the game. I'm confident enough to not need anything, but I also don't want to bring in something good and then get smacked with Franklin's and waste time trying to find it. That being said, if they increase gen times, I will start bringing in toolboxes, BNPs, and probably running a perk or two to help boost repair speed. I think that will be a pretty normal response from a lot of survivors. So, okay, increase gen speed, but will it matter when we can do all that to counter it? Toolboxes and addons and perks?

  • I've honestly stopped playing at this point. Queue times are too long for survivor and due to match making, it's not possible for me to play with friends. Maybe I got burned out on the tome, or maybe it was the way people stopped trying to win and just worked on challenges (to the point of purposely sabotaging teammates to get flashlight saves) but I'm just very done with this game for now.

    DC is never justified

Thats because DC is ALWAYS harmful to the survivior team, the only exception is the "I DC you get the hatch" tactic, but its toxic and should be punished.

Are you getting facecamped? The longer you are on hook, the more time your team has.

Are you getting tunneled? Same as above, at least the killer wont bother anyone else.

Did you vault into a Bear Trap like an idiot 1min into the game? Nobody ######### cares, carry on.

Toxic killer plays should obviously be punished too, but that doesnt justify DC. You are not playing alone. If you dont like teamwork then play killer and DC as much as you want.

Every DC should count as a full sacrifice for killer and up to 2k in altruism depending on the game progress for surviviors.

"...play killer and DC as much as you want." Am I reading this right? Are you saying it's okay to DC as killer? I can't tell you how many blood points I've lost when killers DC because they didn't get any kills.

  • I constantly tell myself, "Don't play a game with a Blendette," and over and over again I'm annoyed when they hide and do nothing.

  • MAYBE

but really, as a PS4 player, please?

  • I love a Pebble, and I've had some Endgames that turned out really well due to my Autodidact when the killer went on a slugfest. The absurd amount of Ghostface games have kinda ruined the Pebble though.

I'm a red rank too and i think otherwise, and i explain you why. Everytime people talk about SC think only about time wasting. Sorry but it's pointless. Is the search for Ruin totem a huge waste of time? Absolutely YES! Probably the most expensive waste of time in the whole game, because you can learn to perform perfect skill checks! But hey not everybody can perform perfect skill checks even after 2000+ hours, and this give to the killer a huge amount of time to down all your little friends... Most of the games, in my experience, where killer got ez 4k, it wasn't because he was that good but because all the job where made by Ruin totem. Not all players are able to perform perfect skill checks and this slow the game down for everybody. How much time you and your teammates waste regressing gens when performing wrong skill checks when Ruin totem is on? And think about the new Ruin that is coming with the new 3.5.0!

If you waste "some time" to search and cleanse Ruin totem, you give the chance not only to yourself to genrush cosy, but also to your teammates. I can perform perfect skill checks very 98% of the times, so to me find and cleanse Ruin totem is a massive waste of time, way way more than spending 32 seconds healing yourself. Think about it. The time you spend to find a Ruin totem may vary from 30 seconds to 3 minutes. Add the time it take to cleanse the totem. In many games you can't find it at all! How many gens you can repair in 3 minutes? And what about "Dull Totems"? Cleanse? Don't cleanse? Well if you don't cleanse you get NOED. So, everything in Dead By Daylight is, basically, a "waste of time", because this game is so situational and devs try to buy more time for the killers of course, because the game is totally survivor sided.

Self-Care is nothing compared to other "waste of time" topics. Think about those games when you're the only one doing gens, and your teammates are hiding in a bush doing absolutely nothing. Self-Care isn't the problem here. At all!

I don't think searching for totems is a waste of time, especially since most killers tend to run Ruin and/or NOED and I run Small Game. I'm not sure what platform you're on, but Ruin is incredibly strong on console. I think because the frame rates are lower? It's very hard to hit great skill checks on console. When you run Small Game and learn where totems spawn, you can cleanse very quickly and it's definitely worth it for one person to cleanse a totem that affects everyone, and it's really nice to know at the end of the game I'm not getting smacked with NOED, or if it does pop, I know where the totem is because I've done all the others. I cannot tell you how many games I've single-handedly been responsible for cleansing every totem and everyone making it out easily because of no NOED, not to mention cleansing Ruin within the first 30 seconds or so of the game. It's amazing how often my Small Game pings as I load into the game and it's the Ruin totem right there. I literally spend zero time searching for the totem sometimes. But yeah, you're right, 0 seconds is a huge waste compared to 32+ seconds someone is going to spend Self-Caring. And when you're running around checking for totems, you scope out the layout and see where the gens spawned and can make sure you know where the basement is, the gates are, and make sure you don't three gen yourself.

And Self Care doesn't just take 32 seconds. It probably takes a solid minute if not more every time because most people look for a pallet to camp or a nice tree to Blendette behind. Shockingly, you can continue to play the game if you're injured. You might even find that you get a gen halfway done, and then a teammate comes by, heals you, and the gen is done together. If you run a perk like Dead Hard, you could even argue that being injured just makes you stronger. I find that 99% of my teammates will heal me when they unhook me, and then we can stay together and work on a gen.

Self-Care is a problem and it's so frustrating to me that even in red ranks, most if not all my teammates are running it. I've lost so many games because teammates will Self-Care after every hit and they spend 4-5 minutes each per game not doing gens. Just bring a medkit if you have to heal by yourself. Not only is it faster, but you get another perk.

Killer overall is stressful. If killers stop playing, you can't play survivor either.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/983763#Comment_983763

Survivors will take the majority of the punishment for this one. After all - this change was made for survivors, even if they didn't ask for it. So killers will send a message to the devs in the form of survivor complaints.

I never said every killer should stop playing, but I think you should if you find the game to be stressful.

Video games are supposed to be fun.

  • David was definitely harder. Dead Hard is very unreliable on console and why wouldn't killers go for the easiest target?

New survivors sticking with the game won't make the game grow and stay alive when at the same time killers are driven away. The opposite is going to happen: Not a lot of survivors - new and veterans alike - will stick to the game when the queue times increase to 10-15 minutes.

My survivor queues already do take that long, and if you add in the lobby dodging, 20+ minutes isn't unusual. And I have to disagree - I think new players sticking with the game will help, even if some killers are driven away, which I don't think is necessarily going to happen. Has the PTB even started yet and people are already freaking out? Let's see what happens.

  • @SithLordLuxray said:

If Small Game was more accessible, I could see this working out a bit. However on the 3 survivors I have at max level (PS4) I didn’t see Small Game until I refreshed the bloodweb at least 10 times past the level cap. Its extremely difficult to find for me and haven’t seen it pop up on any of my other survivors.

It's as accessible as any other perk. You could also use maps or Detective's Hunch.

  • @Godzilla said:

I'm not a very active forum user and have only been playing dbd since it came out on the Switch, but why is Small Game never brought up in discussions about Ruin? If hitting those skill checks is so hard for new players, why why not use a perk that seems almost like a counter to Ruin and run Small Game, a general Survivor perk so even the newest of new players will have it?

Once Ruin became regular on the Switch version I just started using Small Game and even well placed hex totems became a breeze to find. Then I could go back to gens and get lots of practice hitting skill checks. So if new survivors are having such a hard time, then make Small Game have an even easier time finding the totems. Will still actually pull the survivors off the gens even for a little bit. Red rank survivors won't run the perk cause there are better perks and they will already know how to look for the totems anyway.

This all seems unnecessary, if a hex perk is causing you problems as a new or old survivor, then you have the option of searching for it and remove it from play and there is an easy perk to get that makes doing so really easy, so why all the kerfuffle?

And if the legions (not Legion :P) of Doctor killers (HA!) are making the game so hard so survivors, run Calm Spirit? I know its a pretty bad perk, but the wording in the developer update made it seem like the screaming was making it hard for players. So run a perk that makes that ability null and void? Doctors are among the rarest killers I see on the Switch version so I don't run the perk and relish the challenge of dealing with a different killer.

I always run Small Game because Ruin is incredibly difficult on console and no one else is willing to run it or even do totems when they see them. It's way underrated, especially with all the Trappers lately because of the Tome. Not to mention Hag, and Freddy's pallets and snares. It just comes down to people being selfish or lazy and not wanting to run it. It doesn't need a buff at all, it's fine as it is if people choose to run it. I cant tell you how many games I've only had time to do four totems and we still get smacked with NOED because me other three teammates couldn't do one. It's still usually fine because I know where I've been and where the totem will be if I haven't cleansed it, but please, survivors, cleanse just ONE totem. Makes a world of difference.

  • As a survivor, Pop and Corrupt Intervention are way more effective against me. I run Small Game because Ruin is so strong on console and I usually cleanse within 30 seconds. This change won't make a difference in how I play. I'm going to run around at the start and cleanse all the totems, dull or hex. I'm not getting smacked with NOED and I know most survivors won't even cleanse one dull totem, so it's up to me.

  • I just wish WGLF worked as reliably as BBQ. I think just by nature of the game there isn't any survivor perk that could work the same as BBQ, but when you get bp for a protection hit but not a stack, that hurts.

  • I'm not sure it's quite that cynical, but they are a business and need to make money. I'm not sure people remember how hard it is to have any success in this game when you start as a survivor. I personally know seven people who I tried to introduce to this game who have all quit. Doing some quick math here, of all the games that are being played as we speak, 80% of those players are survivors. If they can do something that makes newer survivors stick with the game, that will help the game grow and stay alive. That being said, I can see how killers at all levels aren't happy.

It's hard to achieve balance between killer and survivor, new and experience players, console and pc players. For me, this won't change anything. I'm still going to run around at the start of every game with my Small Game and touch every totem I come across. Ruin is INCREDIBLY strong on console, and I hate when NOED rewards bad killers, so I make the choice to counter those perks with my own.

I have to admit though, I'll be surprised if they go through with this.

  • I have no problem with Ruin. It's incredibly strong on console, that's why I run Small Game and cleanse within 30 seconds. Also not a fan of bad killers being rewarded with NOED, so Ima touch all the totems. I guess it will be nice change to see moris in almost every game and not just during the Bloodhunt like killers normally do.

Yes in theory but it doesn’t seem to be working, especially lately. I did hear it’s currently bugged. I played last night with two buddies. I’m rank 5, they are both 10. Our 4th survivor was rank 16 as was killer. I knew something was wrong lol

I've been getting really rough match making as solo lately. I had a game today where everyone was 17 except me, and I've had a game or two with purple survivors and a level 15 killer.

  • Don't they match killers with the lowest ranked person in a SWF? So if I'm a 4 and my friends are all 15-17, we get a level 4 killer. When I play solo, we red/purple usually get matched with green killers because there are more of them and all the red/purple killers are saved for SWF. Which by the way, that is a nightmare, and every friend I've tried to introduce to this game has quit.

If certain killers want to camp, that game is over for a survivor. There's nothing survivors can do that makes the game unplayable for killers. It's especially fun when you wait 20 minutes for a game and then get face camped within the first 30 seconds. I guess spamming x to buy time for my teammates to do gens though while I'm face camped by a Bubba or Billy is fun and interactive.

This gets a little annoying...everyone has these ideas like collecting gas or parts but hardly anyone addresses the “kill rush” side of the equation at the same time. These things are 100% linked. Don’t offer up an idea for one without anything for the other to balance it. Kill rate is in line, or even exceeding really, the rate of the current gen speed. Note- do not counter with a pip argument, as that has to do with the emblem system, not balance of kill/escape rate that many players view as a win or loss. Sorry, but survivors don’t want to play a game where killer is averaging 3-4K, which clearly slowing down ONLY survivors would lead to. So you have to tackle both sides. Anything that slows the survivor objective must be done with the thought process of benefitting only killers who play “fairly”, and not only does nothing to benefit the many who don’t, but puts them in a much worse spot than currently. Please tell me how this is wrong. That’s how you improve the game. Why would we slow survivors down, and allow tunnelers/campers to become stronger? How does that improve game health? Oh, let me guess...the reply will be “use DS or BT”. Ok, use the plethora of gen defense perks then, the ones you complain you shouldn’t have to use. Leave everything as is then if that’s the attitude!

edit - Also yes, before anyone says it I’m aware survivors complain about tunneling and camping without giving ideas to help the killers who don’t, but the reverse is far more popular. I just think something needs to be done to both sides...that’s my point.

I don't know what you mean. Just three games in a row where everyone either died on the first hook or went into struggle and then was tunneled out of the game with basement camping killers. IT'S FUN. Update - 4th game the killer DC'ed after the face camping failed due to my BT.

  • Not much flashlight clicky on console, but I have had tons of basement camping and tunneling from killers during this lovely event. And ebony moris and iridescent heads. Three games in a row, in fact, of basement camping and tunneling killers. And I think a lot of video games get worse during the weekend.

  • I've never DCed over an offering but it's usually an ebony mori which I do sigh loudly every single time. It's especially fun right now since it's double BP for everyone and not just killers who have BBQ all the time.

  • I've seen killers complain that survivors are healing and complain that survivors are not healing. Who cares? Play how you want and have fun.

  • I think that I could not care less about why some rando DCs

  • I hate when my teammates Blendette their way through games, so I actually really like going against the Doctor. At the same time, they are some of the most tunnel-y killers in the game. Can't say I blame the majority of the people who play this game (survivors) for being annoyed by that. I had three games last night where I didn't even see a gen before the Doc made me scream and I was tunneled out of the game. A wonderful gaming experience, especially when it takes 10-20 minutes to get a game.
