i mean look what they did to the legion. they have zero clue what they doing. i feel like they just flipping coins to make certain decisions because its easier than thinking.
I kind of have to agree with you there.
When they fully bought the rights to this game I was really hoping we'd see more personal changes to the game and less forced ones that don't make much sense.
We've been getting a mix of it since then. Changes like Legion and Nurse don't make sense but stuff like medkit changes are actually beneficial to the game. I just wish we knew what killers the staff played and what elo they're in. Most of the time it feels like they don't play in the high elo where so many problems are present.
-
Not only that but any event gen done regardless of if you worked on it or not gives you points too.
After 3 years I'm kind of sad the best they can do is make high elo less fun.

yep most addons are trash now like they were before. thats how they spit on the community.
I just really want to emphasize this.
They started out by stating THEY DIDN'T WANT THEM TO BE AS UNUSED AND MUSCLE MEMORY ALTERING AS THEY WERE.
And what did they do? Keep the exact same problems. They just shifted them around. It really gets me upset that they say stuff like this and then blatantly do the opposite 5 lines down.

I think the cooldown should only apply when you press m1 so you get punished more when you miss your attacks and it gives survivors more to time to get away after the first hit.
EVEN THIS IS BETTER THAN WHAT WE GOT.
I bet it didn't take you very long to think of it? And I assume by your icon you play survivor more so you probably don't even use Nurse that much but your suggestion screams "I ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND NURSE SOMEWHAT" as opposed to the entire list of changes the devs rolled out that scream the exact opposite.

Thats the problem to all games, Developer tend to balance something that majority of players able to play Something this Good. But there will be always some God able to play Something that Marvelous. Force Developer to tone down. Leave the majority doesnt want to use it.
Like Blizzard with Zenyatta? They nerfed him solely due to ONE single person using him lol.
I agree with that mindset to an extent; when you get into the high elo or any PvP game it's not about skill most of the time, it's about who can abuse the broken mechanics/items/whatever the best.
My best example is hero shooters like Paladins/Overwatch. The meta is whatever instantly kills someone as fast as possible, regardless if that's a fair mechanic or even fun (it's not) it just gets spammed because it's the single most effective way to play.
Not fun. Not fair. Effective.
So in a game like DbD where you're by yourself left to face the sweat squeeze of PvP and you don't have a top tier killer? It's like your playing smash your head against the wall sim. You're having about as much fun and interaction.
-
I really loved Nurse. She was fun, unique, and rewarded skill.
Now that they've taken the fun and rewarding part out of her who's to say they won't take her uniqueness away and make her an m1 killer?
Oh wait, I forgot theres an addon for that.

Thats one reason I like Freddy. Theres really no map hes weak on.
I have to disagree with you. In my time using Freddy when I got Haddon Field it was a ######### nightmare (pun intended)
They would just abuse BL for loops and every time I tried to teleport to a gen they could use one of the few hundred convenient windows right next to it to make sure I was never able to actually start a real chase before a good minute or 2 of BL loops were done. It was extremely frustrating just how easily they could completely neuter him by using the windows.
And yes, traps don't really help if they're smart. They're either awake or make sure to avoid them and go to one of the other 592809238456 windows in the buildings.

Well, Survivors can find spooky medkits, spooky flashlights or spooky pustulas as event items/offerings.
Killers can only find pustulas.
Its the same problem as last year.
I think the team at BHVR is capable of making this game all it can be but since they refuse to do it, I really hope another direct competitor comes along and does it right.
Every day I just wish I could start a team and make a similar game. At least there would be options and community feedback might actually mean something.

I don't care if she's fun or not. I care if she's balanced or not. She was insanely overpowered before. Any nerfs to her would have been justified. Power wise she's fine after the nurse. Fun is subjective and I guarantee some people will still enjoy her. Other people won't. If they can't nerf her like they did and have her still be fun, then they need to rework her. They could remove her from the game entirely and I would be just as happy. I genuinely don't care about the nurse or people who play her. But, if you truly want the nurse to be fun push for a rework, not a revert. They aren't going to revert her changes nor should they. This has been years coming for the killer and it's long overdue.
Sorry to break it to you but I've encountered MANY survivors who were good enough at juking me I had to go chase someone else. It is possible, you just have to play differently. She had counterplay, she required LOTS OF SKILL, and she never got rewarded for free.
Now we get punished for doing good and extra punished if we miss. Have fun playing the game when no killer is viable and the game becomes even worse of an "hold lmb to win" sim.

2 killers, and I'd bet my soul he wants spirit back to her original ptb level because "balence".
TBH I've forgotten what she was like on PTB, I don't really play her. She doesn't suit the style I like to play (teleporting, hence Hag and Nurse)
Is there really anything wrong with the killers actually being strong and not so weak 3 gens are done by the time their first chase is over?
-

Right, because when survivors got their much needed nerf it was because they didnt feel op anymore? Not because they had every advantage, you think nurse breaks mechanics? Fine, she doesn't play looped till daylight so its op, you cant loop a nurse or bully a good one, you stay hidden and make her guess, you cant run a good one for 5 gens, if you make a chase last more than a minute then your team should be rushing the insane gen speed, if it's a good nurse against a good team she'll get 2 downs and lose 2 gens for it, if you split up and go on separate gens, like that you have 2/5 of the objective done while the killer has 2/12 done.
I love how he keeps comparing the old "dark times" of survivors like it was ok that could literally force a killer to abandon them because they could never be caught.
A lot of survivor changes make the game actually balanced. Most of the time killers have to be buffed because they aren't the power role. God forbid the one killer that actually was makes you scared and have to actually try.

Yeah, have fun keeping them in Line of Sight before downing them because Nurse's powers (and I can't believe I have to keep repeating this) ignores most chase mechanics.
I think it's a fair trade to have a cooldown for a power that can literally end chases before it even begins.
I will try and explain this to you.
YOU. NEED. PREDICTION. TO. USE. HER.
When you give them so much time to get to another LOS break you're just caught in a cycle of following them because if you waste a blink or 2 trying to predict them you're going to get ever further behind.
I swear to god none of you have ever played Nurse for more than 1 game because all of the ######### you say you wouldn't if you actually played her.

I don't wonder why Nurse is unbeatable. I know if it's a good nurse she's unbeatable and no matter what I'm not going to have fun playing against them. Her core design is a design that ignore every gameplay mechanic that survivors have while in chase. There isn't another character in any other multiplayer game that does that. The survivor equivalent of old nurse would be the old infinites and no entity blocker. Current survivor is what they did to nurse. She's still fine as a killer. People are just unhappy because they don't feel stupid op anymore. They actually have to micromanage and be somewhat skilled at the killer to do well. They can't just no brain nurse and kill stuff
You understand the problem even though you don't realize it.
Why, as killer, would I want even MORE micromanging that comes with EXTREME punishment? I already have to keep track of gens, hooks, what hook they're on, their perks, etc... etc... and now I also have to hear DING DING DING DING DING DING DING while I'm fuming from having to constantly wait for my 2nd blink even though it looked like I had it?
Play her. See if you have fun.
Spoiler; you wont.

- Fixed an issue that would cause the blink recharge timer to start too early if the player attacks after blinking.
Also, they gave her cooldown add-ons "The Legion Treatment"
- Dark Cincture: Blink recharge time modifier changed from -0.6 seconds to -0.4 seconds.
- Fragile Wheeze: Blink recharge time modifier changed from -0.9 seconds to -0.6 seconds
Essentially making the addons the basekit of new Nurse even with them equipped. Now you can't get your blinks back "instantly" like everyone keeps claiming.
In fact I think every killer should've been brought up to her level. She actually makes you play the game differently and not just ring around the pallet/L-wall. She could've been TONED down a little, not REWORKED.
-
@dfrenchiee said:
Is there a reason why her ultra rare add on still can't blink through walls? It baffles me they think that is actually worth 7,000 bp
I know right!
I'm telling you no one in the balance team plays killers in high elo. If they did actually know the ins and outs of their characters we wouldn't see changes like this. There were other ways to make her weaker without gutting major parts of what make her the Nurse.
And why would we EVER use an addon that so radically changes the blinks when most maps have more LOS breaks than they do windows and pallets.
-
@Financial_Stability said:
The issue is with survivors who are able to make it to LOS and delay a Nurse from being able to blink on them for that duration. After that long, a survivor who understands how to play against nurse can after making it to a LOS blocker (Asylum, Jungle Gyms, indoor maps [screw hawkins]) they will take a route in which the Nurse is unable to follow them with her eyes, making for a prediction blink to catch up being almost entirely impossible. People don't seem to realize how much Nurse relies on prediction, which I might add is never guaranteed. Say you blink inside the asylum and fatigue at the bottom of the stairs while a survivor runs up there and breaks LOS. They have SO MANY pathing options available to them, and you have to make the best educated guess as to what path they took. Often they could have 3+ options, and the longer you're unable to utiilize your double blinks the worse your odds are for making the right choice. In the open, she's still strong (Aside from wonky geometry cucking her often) but indoor maps and maps like Yamoka, Haddonfield, and Asylum she becomes a ton weaker in being able to down.
Thing is, some people seem to just jump to "no counterplay, so I won't put in any effort." When they frankly have it. Is it as big as other killers? No. But if a killer has consistent counterplay that can prolong the chase reliably, what's stopping the other 3 survivors from using it? This isn't a 1v1, but a 1v4. The killer should have a clear and decisive advantage in chases. A survivor's greatest tool against this is collective objective pressure. Working together and understanding when to save and do gens is paramount to a victory. I wish those people would see it from this perspective instead of thinking they should be able to single-handedly hold back a power that should be equivalent to 4 of himself.
You accurately described the problem, thank you! I wish more people understood this.

Her core character is so innately overpowered that she's incredibly hard to actually balance. They can't have her not be overpowered without making her feel way less "fun" than she was before. They should have reworked her a long long time ago. But sadly they haven't. So until then, you are left with current nurse. If they ever reverted the changes it would be one of the worse decisions they ever made, I would have to go back to insta DCing any time I heard her screech.
Being one of the only 3 killers who are actually viable in high elo is not being overpowered. She had counterplay, and she took SKILL. She wasn't an easy win, the reward you got was the skill you put in. Also you insta DCing is part of the bigger problem. I don't want to hurl insults but that is extremely entitled behavior. If you refuse to learn how to counter her you have no one else but yourself to blame.

Are you saying the cooldown timer starts after a regular attack? As in the cooldown resets?
The cooldown now correctly starts up when fatigue happens after a swing. On PTB the cooldown started right away during the swing so there was much less downtime. Now on live it's going to be EVEN EASIER to completely lose her because she, like Financial said above, relies heavily on predictions which won't work when everyone can run miles away by the time you can blink again.

Yeah I'm almost positive everyone saying "git gud" to the changes never played her more than a week. She just isn't fun anymore, doesn't matter if she's strong or not it's not fun being punished for every single thing you do on top of having the game be slanted against you.

Also the recharge bug was fixed.
I'm confused, are these nerfs to the addons? Is it better to run them now or when they were on PTB?
Also I'm glad they fixed the bug that made her somewhat enjoyable with the changes. They can fix a bug for an unfun change but how many are left that effect the game as a whole? Too many.

It isn't that she isn't strong after the change, she just isn't fun.
You already had a risk-reward with her power that punished you if you failed. Now it punishes you if you succeed and it extra punishes you if you fail. We didn't need even more pressure on killer gameplay atm because base game mechanics surrounding gens isn't exactly good or thought out.

So you are saying you won't play unless you can easily win with no effort? Millennials
This statement is fundamentally wrong.
Let me tell you why.
1.) It isn't a free win with Nurse. I don't know how many times I can type this but if you play Nurse they don't just fall on the ground and you get hooks. You have to use her skillfully and read, position, and time your swings + blinks right or you are going to miss and going to extend the chase.
2.) She is literally the only killer I can play where 2 gens aren't done in the first minute of the game. Why? Well simply put she's actually a threat and she can actually get to the gens faster than it takes to walk across the map. Both of these things are going to suffer with the change.
So yeah. I'm not going to try and play this game when every single match ends up being the same toxic genrush because that's what the gameplay has (de)evolved into.

No, I'm just going to leave. It's not a big spectale or anything but I can't play this game anymore if the only killer who's got an answer is not going to have it anymore.
If I want to play frustration sim I'll boot up DbD again but I play games to have FUN not stress sweat for 4 minutes while survivors be toxic and abuse the game.

Thats not the case at all. By the time you recover from the hit and fatigue both of your blinks are back.
There is no punishment the charge does nothing unless you're double blinking across the map. In a chase it isn't a factor.
That was a bug, remember? After a swing the cooldown would begin right after which was not intended. If you hit you get extra time to wait once it's bug free.
And trust me, it might FEEL like they're back right away but if you need to chain more than 3 blinks (2-2 for instance) you're ######### out of luck. Won't happen. Gotta stand there like a potato m1 killer while you wait to be Nurse.

Oh no, being punished for missing?
It's almost like you shouldn't be able to constantly miss and suffer no repercussions.
Additionally, getting upset at teabagging is the most ridiculous thing ever, it has 0 affect on the game.
You get punished for successful hits too. Pretty much you get punished for using your power in general now. That is bad design.
The whole "slight" change completely ######### with her ability. It seems small on paper but if you play with it daily, trust me it isn't a fun change. There are better ways to make her less powerful while also retaining her fun element.
-
The ONLY bug I've consistently experienced with Nurse has been the speed boost during fatigue. That is until today...
I can only watch a survivor slowly walking and not getting hit somehow so many times in one day before I pop a blood vessel.

Of course they're going through!
And it's a good thing for the game, you know what else is going through? No more instant healing which is also needed.
Nurse is still the strongest killer in the game.
Doesn't matter if she's the strongest or weakest, she isn't FUN to play with the changes.
Constant micromanaging, constantly getting punished for leaving 0.1 seconds left on the charge, the constant sound, the extra toxic survivors teabagging you because you're just walking towards them.
Not.
Fun.

Well if the Nurse changes go through I'm done.

And that perk can be negated by another killer perk making it entirely useless. Survivors also only hear phasing outside the terror radius making it a useless counter in a chase.
I'd like to point out this is a rare case where a killer perk actually overrides a survivor perk. Normally they have priority over killer perks.
And yes, it is useless in a chase to try and listen for the phasing noise, that's the ENTIRE point. If you're around the map and hear it it gives you a chance to react. If you're being chased you're already aware of her and can most likely see her. You have to decide if she's phasing or not and try to make a read. It's one of the only mindgames she has.

You might want to fact check your statements. The PS4 was released in 2013. The PS5 will be released in 2020. That’s a 7 year difference, which is 1 year longer than the PS3 to PS4 transition. Your understanding of “exclusives” is entertaining, and your last statement is of no relevance. Just because the developer used a PC to write the software, doesn’t mean that it runs equally or better on the PC. Is your PC a good rice cooker?
PS4, PS4 slim, P$4 pro are the 3 current releases for the PlayStation alone. (Don't even look at xbox with 5 different versions) so unless you're blind it's pretty obvious they'll sell barely upgraded versions for even more.
As a consumer how can you possibly enjoy exclusives? They limit what you play on specific hardware you have to buy. One of the major selling points of our "free market" capitalist economy is consumer choice. Is being forced to buy a console just to play a single game you want very choice friendly?
I understand there are differences in console hardware and what needs to be developed to run on the myriad of PC hardware. However, consoles are edging closer and closer to being Steam Boxes anyways. Compressed PCs you don't have to build but lack all of the freedom and usability. They're even running on similar architecture and hardware now.
The only console I condone is the Switch, and solely because it does what no other console (or non-gaming laptop) can actually do with it's mobility. I heavily dislike having to buy titles on the Switch when I'd rather play them on my PC, unless it's a game I'd like to play on the go. Then I would CHOOSE to buy it on the Switch instead of having no other option.

Thing is, if Spirit stands near a Pallet, she gets the Hit when the Survivor vaults it. Yes, this is a gamble for her. But, she can still react if the Survivor is moving any way. So there is not really a Risk.
I mean, I can see it from myself that Spirit is not that hard to play and very effective, I am more likely to rank up when playing Spirit than any other Killer.
And there is nothing wrong with that. She is easier to play but doesn't guarantee rewards.
If we have to start nerfing killers for the decisions survivors make the game is going to get very weird very fast.

Then you have still Footsteps, moving Grass and Collision to find the Survivor. Iron Will only makes it harder, but is no counterplay. Also, quite a lot of Spirits I verse are using Stridor lately, which completely counters Iron Will.
I mean the entire point of hearing the phasing sound is to tell you to stop moving and try and hide. The counter is literally built into it when not using prayer beads.
You're right, it's very hard to counter her but I think it's possible. For faking phasing though, I think it should stay that way. It's a gamble to use it and it doesn't guarantee a free hit. If they heard the sound while she's right there that would cut her mind-games down to almost nothing.

She still lacks counterplay from the survivors. She also offers a lot for the amount of skill needed to play her. As long as you have a good headset it is fairly easy to know where survivors are, even if they're not injured you can still hear survivor footsteps loud and clear most of the time. Even if by some chance you don't hear a survivor you have the chance to bump into them since you don't lose collision while using your power.
But they still hear the sound of phasing (obv not w/ prayer beads), can stop running any time they wish, and can run a perk to make them quiet while injured.
I know using specific perks to have a counter on a killer isn't the best design but in this case I think it's not too bad since it's mostly related to sound which is something you have some control over as a survivor even without the perk.

"If you don't use his power, and you don't use shred, then he's an M1 Killer."
Can't that be said for most killers?
True, but good designed killers use their power as often as they can.
Nurse, Huntress, trap killers, Myers, and Clown (he needs work though but the idea is there) all use their powers very often. One even for MOVING AROUND. I believe that is what killers should be designed around instead of a dumb cooldown that makes them all the exact same while they wait for their brief use of power.

I don't think anything has led to the game speed change from a mechanical perspective. I just think more survivors are realizing the complete lack of threat that M1 killers provide on large maps. There is absolutely no reason for 3 survivors to not be on gens when one survivor is in a chase. There is nothing to prevent it. 80 seconds is not that long with Autohaven and Coldwind loops. And hooks states are long enough that you can still finish 3 gens and rescue the first person to be downed before they hit second state. DbD has a math problem that more and more survivors have figured out.
I completely agree with you.
Over the years the mechanical side of the game has (mostly, looking at you Prove Thyself) actually made gens less speedy. However, this has not stopped the ever advancing gen times. Why? Like you said, over time and skill refinement they have come to completely shrug off any threat an m1 killer has. They don't have map pressure or chase pressure, why fear them at all? Just sit on the gen while someone loops him easy peasy.

Wrong. Talk to Peanits about that first statement, all killers have a 50% kill ratio (the required state for a "win" for killers) at rank 1. If you're maining nurse, you really have no grounds to complain about anything survivors do at all.
That's the "ideal" game they are striving towards. This doesn't work though because this mentality stops killers from ranking up because of the pipping system, but that's another discussion.
I main Nurse because I was tired of having no control over the game as the power role. Sorry if actually having control over the match as the power role is a problem for you, but that's what I and many others expect out of an asymmetric game.
And I'm still only able to do as well as my skill lets me. If I play like trash on Nurse I won't win. Simple. I have to play well and better than all the survivors did to win. There is nothing wrong with that. However, when you try the same thing on weaker killers you get bullied and stomped, as the POWER ROLE. That is a problem.
-
Ruin, PGTW, Thanatophobia, Surge, Dying Light, Overcharge, (Unnerving Presence?) are the only gen-regressing related perks.
Of these, only 3 of them stack (ruin, thana, dying light) but they aren't a huge problem since they add like 15 seconds to a gen at max strength.
Surge doesn't stack with anything but surveillance.
Overcharge should be baseline on every killer to stop gen tapping.
I don't see a stacking problem here tbh.

It's still a blind guess on the survivors part as to what to do when she is phasing. You have nothing to react to.

That is why you don't use your power all in one go. You use it for a couple of seconds so you don't have to wait the full cooldown. Even if you only phasewalk for 2 seconds it is more than enough to get to the other side of a loop to a survivor. The drawback isn't great enough for the possibilities of the power. You have total free movement and you're invisible while phasing and the only thing you can't see is survivors.
+ mind games
+ speed boost
+ non-discrete power bar
-Can't see survivors or blood (without addon)
-cooldown
-being m1 killer when not using power
-can lose survivors during power
I mean this is just a very rough outline but she seems balanced to me. She has her pros but she also is meh as ######### outside of that like every other m1 killer.

Why the hell would perks be obsolete? It would be a bonus on the perks, what themself is based some of luck
That's one way to view it.
However, many long-term players already have so many rare items they don't care if they lose them or get more, they have a hoard.
It can only help new players, and at that point you've dedicated so much into unlocking all the perks, getting them on the character you want, and now you're taking up 3/5 of your loadout just to find a rare item (maybe). You're better off just getting one of the perks and scavenging while leveling up normally and you'll get the same results just slower.

I want Demo to be a strong killer but his power can be directly countered and shut-down by survivors, and his other power (shred) is best used for pallets and long straight loops.
Otherwise he's just an m1 killer.

How so? The survivor still doesn't know where you're phasing, just that you're phasing. The only thing that will no longer work is standing still (which tbh, was never a great tactic).
I don't think this is enough for her to become "balanced". Survivors need to know more or she needs to have more drawbacks.
she does have drawbacks.
She is literally an m1 killer until she can use her power, and then she is only an m2 killer for a few seconds before becoming a baseline m1 killer again.
Her ONLY other facet is her ability to stand still at pallets/windows and fake doing things. That is literally her only other ability outside of walking fast for 5 seconds.

Killers control the match. "Death Squads" are an invention made by the killer failing to capatalize. Not my problem. Why are you so intent on self projecting and refusing to admit fault to not improve?
game doesnt need to be balanced aroudn your lack of not wanting to improve. There isnt a SWF balance problem. The game is balanced around SWF, just git gud. :^)
I don't often struggle even against death squads because I play Nurse. The ONLY killer where your skill can actually effect the outcome of the game without having to rely on the survivors making a mistake.
If you aren't using one of the top 3 you are going to struggle and be at the mercy of the survivors making mistakes. It's just that simple. Other killers don't have the tools or powers to actually take control of the game when survivors are grouped and good.
"The game is balanced around SWF" Wow. Just wow. Now I know you're trolling because it was shoe-horned in after a large review bomb.
It was never intended for the game (why won't we get voice chat if it was?) and was never balanced either. There are still perks that are ok with 1 or 2 but when you run 4 of it paired with 4 other people it gets out of hand.

Feels like most of it should be like this, but is not actually working like intended lol. Thanks for the effort anyway.
I will give BHVR a lot of slack for GF, as his mechanics were completely new for the game and it is extremely hard to achieve great accuracy in consistency because of all the elements in the networking alone, let alone the actual in-game models and positions.
This doesn't mean I wouldn't like to see him fixed though, that should still be a goal they're working on,
