  • The survivor game is in shambles right now. DC's, loading screens, etc, etc.

  • I don't think it is about the Plague itself. I think there are a lot of tunneling killers playing Plague and it is a real pita to deal with on Plague. I've noticed all the mid-range Plague players I've met are tunneling hard with her. They are all getting wrekt too. I think she is somewhat fun to play against. Still getting her figured out as killer though. I 2k usually with her, but easy 4k with Trapper....weird.

Then again, it could just be a bunch of babies...who knows?

  • I think I'll give BHVR a break for a bit. Really not sure what they are doing with DbD, but it does not feel good at all. Thanks for the ideas though, much appreciated.

  • Is there nobody in the United States playing Dead by Daylight?! Every single match tonight has been with a killer or survivors in Japan, China, Russia, Argentina, or some other country. I have not been able to have a single match with decent ping and a US opponent. What in the holy 9 hells is going on?!

  • No teabag, no tunnel, no camp. GG Kicked my ass and all escaped? GG. Downed me before 2 gens were done and killed me without camping/tunneling? GG

Having fun is not about winning for me in this game. I just don't want to deal with bs is all. I do that at work all day long where I deal with criminal scum that hurts kids. I don't need to deal with childish bs when I want to chill out.

I don't have trouble staying rank 1 as killer but I played survivor few times since the new matchmaking and find it weird. Doing well is not rewarded if your team fails miserably.

This. I played a match with my wife the other day. Camping killer, so we focused on gens. Other survivor ran around and did nothing. We get through the gens, open gate, leave. Less than 12k bp. Next match, two survivors did not even touch a gen, they just evaded looking to get the hook. Needless to say, we are the only ones found as we are trying to do gens. Ran the killer for a while, and they still did not touch a gen. Inanity.

  • If you want to play merciful, do so. I mix between ruthless and merciful. Depends on the survivors, and a mix of my mood.

  • Well, since we get matched with rank 1-20, I don't see how rank matters at all anymore. I just had a killer match vs ranks 2, 6, 18, 18 as a rank 12 killer. #########?!

Seriously, this is pure insanity. No, they were not SWF either.

  • The game is pushing survivors to gen rush more and more. Between the number of campers/tunnelers, new killer powers and styles, perk changes, healing changes, pallet changes, etc it has created a mentality of just hitting gens and go. Not fun for either side if you ask me.

  • Those comments are so dumb. Everyone gets caught. If the killer functions at all to even below average ability, they will down the survivor eventually. The game is stacked so the killer will down you. Name one survivor who was never caught. I've yet to meet one I could not catch and I main Trapper. Not exactly a top tier killer.

  • I don't agree. Sometimes it is the pure toxic behavior of the killer that pushes the player to DC. Try playing fi e games in a row where you are camped or tunneled, the the 6th wants to slug, camp, or tunnel you. You have likely had enough by then.

I switched to killer long ago over this. My wife still dabbles in playing survivor, but most matches are hard core camp and tunnel matches. I'm talking hit within seconds of the unhook, or killer hangs in front of hook. She has never run DS as she feels it is toxic, but I keep telling her to reconsider.

After 6 matches of this, I watched her DC in absolute disgust last night and uninstall. Hoping she changes her mind, but most of my friends and family already quit in the past 3 months.

  • Stop complaining about people complaining a out playstyles. People hate being camped and tunneled. It's the cheapest way to win, and guarantees someone's game is ruined.

If your playstyle is toxic, people ha e a reason to complain. Admit it and move on.

  • I think there is a need to differentiate between strategic camping and tunneling vs it being the entire strategy.

I get strategic use of them and never fuss about it when I play survivor. Hook swarm, last hook, toxic survivor, 1 gen left and need to slow game down, etc.

It's when those are the primary tactic used. From the beginning the killer camps and tunnels. This drives players nuts. In most cases, it is done for that purpose. The player is a toxic pissant and wants you to get salty. (I hate that stupid word) The killer will taunt during and after matches just to get a rise.

Like toxic survivor self's, this is very bad for the game. Many survivors are quitting because it is so common. Some, like myself, moved to killer months ago due to it. It is easily 30% or more why many DC early in matches. Pure frustration. If you ran 4 matches and were camped or tunneled in each, then were downed within the first minute of the 5th, you may have had enough by then. 5 matches with less than 30k BP is very frustrating. (Seen it happen to my wife on many occasions. She is legally blind and not great in chases.)

How do you police that or fix it?

  • @SmokePotion said:

Waiting for that "new content player count increase" peanut was talking about. Cause so far, it's peak is still below two months ago.

When you try to say things like "there's a small drop in the spring" it's clearly a spin. We can see the stats. The peak for the past 30 days is 26k. That lower number was last spring, and was largely over one month. The player base, while still in the red the next month, was on the uptick.

It's not on the uptick currently, the charts are pretty clear on that.

Look, I love this game, I don't want it to die. Consider me the annoying guy shouting about smoke so it doesn't become a fire.

Too late, the smoke you see is from a fire. I've been watching the downward trend for a while. People I know who love this game, but just can't play anymore. Not burn out, just absolute disgust at the direction, uninstalled and moved on. Though it is small sample sizes, I can still see the changes over the forums, streamers, content creators and Steam numbers.

We've hit the iceberg, and everybody is ignoring it.

    @Warlock_2020

Not really, no. Camping and tunneling are legitimate tactics, as already confirmed by the devs several times.

Robbing you the ability to play is wrong in that case because getting camped or tunneled are both ways of playing the game, even as Survivor.

When you get camped, you are the most important person for your teammates because you're winning them a lot of time to finish the gens. If you disconnect, you eliminate that opportunity and most likely end up giving the Killer a 4k, which is exactly why people camp. It works because many Survivors are egoistic and refuse to make a sacrifice for the sake of their teammates victory.

I think that's very important for every player to realize. Even if you get camped or tunneled, you're not being useless. You're the person that can make the difference between a 1k and a 4k. The difference between a depip and a double pip. YOU can prevent that Killer for ranking up, so you never have to see them again in high rank.

Regardless, it absolutely sucks, and it is way too common. Easily 50% of matches are campers or tunnelers. It is what drove me to play killer. Once I figured out I could make almost double the BP, and avoid camping and tunneling by playing killer, I never looked back. Only play survivor when playing with my wife now. Even she plays a lot less now. She's tired of the same thing. It's why both my sons quit, my neighbor, and several co-workers.

Like it or not, the rampant camping and tunneling are part of the DC problem and I can't say I blame them.

  • @PiiFree that logic works both ways. If you are being tunneled from the start and knocked down right off of hook, the killer is robbing you of the ability to play. If that player DC's, I can't blame them.

I see more players DC due to camping and tunnel off the hook than anything else. I rarely get a DC in my matches, but I don't camp or tunnel.

  • No. A hardcore tunneling/face camping killer does not deserve extra bp. Period.

That is why I say the killer gets points equal to the lowest total he wracked up for the chase, hook, and death of another survivor. In other words, if survivor 1 DC's, and the killer chases down and kills Survivors 2-4, but survivor 2 was a quick down, hook, face camp which warranted few points, the DC is equal to that value for the killer.

If its a face camper/tunneler, they won't get much for it. If it is a legit killer wracking up points putting pressure on the field, chasing, downing, hooking, and chasing the next, they will get a good bp and emblem boost for the DC.

Oh, and survivors should get bonus bp for actions based on how many DC's they played through.

No two DC's are the same.

  • @ThGameIsHardButSoAmI said:

I apreciate your opinion especially in "Since the rank change system the devs want you to play the way they want you to." which i think is true, but you did not just say that the devs are ruining campers fun. You can say that camping is a strategy, ok. You can say that it is a legit strategy, ok. But you can't say it's a fun strategy and i'm glad you disagree with it.

If standing still looking at the your face is someone's ideia of fun, they need a new hobby.

I agree with ThGame - Camping is not fun for anyone. Those who camp intentionally usually do it to ruin other players enjoyment. I know, because I hear them talk about it after the match non-stop. They often want to get salt after playing toxic. Camping is one of the worst aspects in the game. It is legit in some situations, but in no way is it legit to camp the first hook. These are toxic little kids/grumpy grown-ups who just want to be jack-balls.

That said, the OP is right in some of what he is saying. The game change lately is not a good one.

  • @Giddawid said:

@HavelmomDaS1 Thank you for offering your feedback. We appreciate you taking the time to think about potential solutions to keep survivors interested. What do you think would motivate survivors if you were offering a reward?

I've said this a few times, but there are two major categories of survivors who DC.

    1. Mad because they got downed/beat. Nothing you can do about them other than bans
    2. Frustrated due to what they feel is either toxic play, and overpowered perk/killer, or the fact that they are in a 3v1 due to DC or bug. These players can be convinced to keep playing...potentially.

Frustrated survivors are often motivated by either the want to play and have fun, or blood points. I say this because they get frustrated by tunneling, camping, or facing killers that feel over powered to them. So, how do you fix this? How do you convince a player to continue being run over roughshod by a tunneler, or to allow themselves to be hooked by a killer who was hard camping? Give them bonuses to either bp, or some other in-game benefit.

    Ideas:

    1. If you die on your first hook, you don't lose any items you brought into the trial.
    2. If you start a match as a 3v1, you earn 25% extra bp for all actions. (Increase it to 50% if someone DCs within the first minute. Furthermore, if it starts as a 3v1, give survivors a speed boost for a short amount of time. Let them move at 115% for the first 2 minutes of the match. Give them a 25% boost to gens until the first one is done. Then, it all returns to normal. If a killer can't destroy a 3v1, they are not very good. Survivors need an incentive to stay and allow themselves to be pummeled by a the killer. The killer wants them to get hooked and die so he/she gets their points.
    3. If the killer stays within X meters of the hook, the hooked player gains bp for actions of other players. 25% from each other player's actions. This at least gives them incentive to "hang around".
    4. If a player is downed within X seconds of being unhooked, find a way to give them a boost to bp or something....the Entity feeds on lost hope, if the killer is tunneling off the hook, what hope is there? If they stay in the game, they are showing they have hope, thus the entity rewards them...just before claiming their life.
    5. If a player DC's early (within X seconds) in a match, the killer and survivors should get a bonus. The killer should get double the lowest points they earned by chasing and killer another survivor. This keeps from punishing killers when multiple ones dc. Helps with the zero pip or getting a pip still. So, if one dc's, and they are able to chase, hook, and kill the others then the points they earned from the "worst" of the survivors is doubled, making up for lost chase/hook points of the DC. Survivors earn a flat out 25% bonus for all actions for each DC. Have the points tallied as they are earned, that way if one DC's late, those points are not tacked on to the total, but only actions taken after the DC.

Just ideas, and not everyone's motivation is the same, but it gets pretty frustrating when you are trying to grind these horrible blood webs and you get hosed by DC's, camping, tunneling, games that only load 3, etc.

  • I don't see many DC's in my games. Then again, I go out of my way to not camp or tunnel. I don't care about rank either. Just fun and bp.

I know this, some of the people I knew who played (they no longer do) and would DC, often did so due to camping and tunneling. They wanted to play, chase and participate in the game, not get tunneled out right from the start. I don't blame them.

Some survivors can't stand losing, some just don't want to reward an azzhole who tunnels them to death. It is what it is.

Either way, we are losing players at an alarming rate and I'd like to see that stop. It will require a total shift by the player base and the devs.

  • @The_Crusader In roughly 6 hours of play as survivor over the past two nights (rank 10), I've seen 3 Plague. In 6 hours over the same period as killer, countless Jane.

  • Go back to the old match making. This is so frustrating. Used to be insta que on both sides. Now, 3-5 minute waits for high ping and horrible match making.

  • I have enjoyed playing against her. I'm still learning how to run her.

  • No, it is not a new DS. It is anti tunnel off the hook is all it is.

  • I like the idea of a reward for hooking a different person each time, and the survivors getting a debuff until getting hooked again.

Example: (In line with what he says here)

1 - hooked, and rescued gets a debuff if a new survivor gets hooked. That debuff lasts until that survivor is hooked a second time.

2 - If the killer manages to hook each survivor once without every downing the a survivor that was already hooked, the debuff is increased. Again, the debuff is erased/or reduced once hooked again. But, the killer gets bonus points for the value of that debuff. In other words, the killer does not get punished by losing the debuff, he gets rewarded as the debuff turns into extra points based on the strength of the debuff.

As a killer, I would love to know that those debuffs are only undone by me and when I choose to "undo" them by hooking someone twice, I get a reward having done so.

As a survivor, I think this would be acceptable, as long as the debuff was not so strong as to make the match lopsided. It would discourage camping and tunneling down one survivor at a time, therefore giving me more time to enjoy the match and participate. (As survivor, I don't really care about surviving as much as participating, having some fun, and getting bp.)

  • @Orion said:

Connections work both ways. The fact that your SWF group was still in the match kinda proves it was your trash wi-fi.

Not correct at all. It is this last patch. I have fantastic signal and can play any online game with no trouble. I never have a problem in DbD, but last night, I was lagged out several times. Checked my speed, no change. Several friends I know have been having the same problem. The game is dropping faster than rank 20's to a red rank killer.

  • @Eveline said:

But people are always saying "Rank doesn't matter". I hope the same people are not the ones complaining.

You are misconstrued in your statement. Rank has no meaning, as in zero benefit or reward. Veteran red ranks vs newbie rank 20's is the dumbest idea ever. You will chase off new players and that equals the game's death.

  • If this was April 1st, I would get what the developers were doing. But this? Someone should be fired. Seriously, clean house. Get some people in here that can actually run a game. This is not rocket science. You are not the first game to have a rank and match making system. This is inexcusable. You will kill your own game.

Considering the ingenuity that went into making this game in the first place, it is shocking to see how poorly it is managed.

  • I don't know where to begin. I guess I'll start with playing as survivor (P.S. this is coming from a rank 1 Killer and Survivor):

I could not agree more with OP. Today has been a dumpster fire. I promised myself I would not play until match making was fixed, but I decided to believe the devs might get this one right...….WRONG!

Seriously, my day in a nutshell:

Trapper Main - 7 matches with 5 4k's and 2 3k's. I gave the hatch on each of those. Zero pips, and the mercy hatches were both depips. Not like I care about rank at all, but wth was that? I got zero points deducted for being around the hook, so no camping. I did not get DS'ed a single time, because I typically don't tunnel the person off the hook. I had several matches were I had at least 8 hooks or more. But, as usual, I did not get much of anything in chase because I focus on herding toward my traps. I had a match with 12 or more traps catching survivors. My chaser emblem was all but zero. No pip. So, I got punished for using my killer's power?! Seriously devs, wth is that all about?!

Played survivor with my wife - 5 matches of laaaa-----aaaag and the game locking up. Faced a deluge of camping, we are talking hardcore, dedicated, drool on the keyboard camping. Had 3 killers DC!! (All three were campers getting destroyed.)

The FPS was dropping worse than rank 20 survivors in a red rank killer match. WTH did you do to the engine?! There were times I could not heal, or click a gen, or pick up a trap.

Pure dumpster fire. Fix this crap. You guys should have this type of stuff down by now. I thought Blizzard was bad....wow.

  • @Condorloco_26 All good points. Rank has no point to it at all. All I've ever cared about is fun and BP gain. That is why I moved to killer to begin with.

Now, if only I could fix this match making. ARGH!

  • I'm not sure what is going on, but I know connection is horrible! We have seen multiple games lag out. I'd say it was lag switching, but no, it was pure lag spikes. I contacted the killer after game and he though it was us who DC'ed. This has happened a lot tonight.

Once again, pretty good job so far.

  • I noticed this earlier. It seems like the rush to escape is bigger than ever. Even in potato matches, gens are getting done fast.

  • Seriously. Stop complaining it is "buffed". It is much better than before.

If DS stressed you out as a killer, you need a break. I never stressed over it. Just anticipated it and moved on. More than not the person is back down in seconds because of so many potato survivors lately. Seriously, nothing in this game stresses me, and should not stress anyone. It is either fun, or it is not a game.

  • @Condorloco_26 Agreed, but with the new ranking, it hurts us more than anything. Our chaser emblem is so low, it brings our score down. Before, it did not much matter, now, we need the emblem points.

  • I have noticed that as well. Perhaps she is new and I still need to get her down more, but on bad matches with any other killer, 20k is easy. Her...not so much.

  • Is it me, or are these games faster? Feels like the gens are faster. I got 8 hooks and little to no chase because they kept hitting my traps. 3k and let the last get hatch, zero pip and only 16k bp? WTH is going on? 1 died on second hook, but that never made a huge difference before.

  • @HeroLives said:

I think the new match making is fine. It gives both sides easier matches and tougher matches. Also solves the depipping issue. Solves the lobby dodge issue. Gives you better teammates to hopefully get out of low rank hell where most killers tunnel/camp and your teammates suck giving them a chance to rank up to where they should be. I haven’t seen any rank 20-15 in any of my matches so I think they might be excluded unless they are swf?

No offense, but you have lost your mind. New players getting stomped by vets is never good. Getting new survivor players in my team vs rank 2 killers is no fun either. Add in the onstant want to put me with players from a different hemisphere and this game has become unplayable.

I was looking forward to the new killer, but I'm not playing due to match making so I won't be buying her either till then.

  • @Peanits said:

It's nothing out of the ordinary. If you look at the trends over the past year or two you'll notice a very similar trend. Player counts increase around new content releases and events and decrease afterwards. Adding to this, in January there was a free weekend, which radically increases player counts. Right now we're just in the slump between content releases, coming off of a free weekend, that's why the drop seems more drastic. You should see it go right back up once the new chapter launches.

I would normally agree, but the evidence I'm seeing is telling a different story. I listed several things above, but you can add this horrible matching system to the list.

I personally know at least 20 people that have quit in the past few months, not including my 4 family members that I have to all but beg to play now and then. All of these people loved playing this game and were definitely casual players. They died non-stop but always had fun. Now, they want nothing to do with the game. They are not just taking breaks, they have uninstalled and moved on.

How many more have to do so before BHVR recognizes their game needs help. Not another broken killer or broken perks. Freddy needs his rework, throw Legion in there too. Match making is FUBAR and needs fixing now. Etc, etc.

  • Several reasons have caused my friends and family to quit.

    1. Constant 3v1

    2. Legion game play. His mechanics make for a torturously boring game.

    3. Increase in toxic killers. Easily 2/3 of the matches are jardcore camps or tunnels. Most people are not SWF hit squads, they just want to have fun. Hard to do that when at least one person per match is getting screwed over.

    4. Every new killer/perk seems to exacerbate issues even more

    5. And a big one, poorly thought out and executed events.

    6. BP grind as survivor (I play killer primarily due to this and toxicity)

  • @George_Soros said:

@Warlock_2020 oh I agree, it's embarrassing to see the guy you annihilated is rank 18. And if there are enough players, it's much better to match the ones with similar ranks together.

But in case there are not enough players, a good solution would be to SEE the ranks of my survivors in my lobby. So I'd know which one I should go easy on, and to which one should I show no mercy.

I agree completely. I would like to know if I have a newer player in my game. I would be more likely to smack me on the but and let them lose me in a chase when they try juking, etc. I doubt it will happen because too many killers would aim for them for the easy win.

  • @George_Soros Also a good way to get new players to quit. Seriously, getting a mudhole stomped online is not a fun way to spend your time.

  • @Hoodied said:

@Warlock_2020 OP said it was not a problem, he just sees several people saying its OP

I'm referring to the number of topics overall. Lots of whining about adrenaline lately.

  • Is this the new killer cry? Seriously, I see adrenaline and anticipate it regularly. Rarely does it save someone I was in a chase with. If you struggle so bad with it, run NOED or remember me to give you more time.

Most of my matches never go far enough to trigger adrenaline. If they get to 1 gen, I keep it in mind if I'm in a chase.

Adrenaline is fine as is. Git gud.

  • @Eveline said:

    Why is it so common?

Just feels common. Not that common at all. Most of the time it requires someone running Plunderer's. If they run the perk, so be it.

  • Not sure what they did, but it is an absolute mess. Was this a project they gave the interns?

  • The long que times are because of the tweaks they made over the last couple of weeks. Que times were fine before that. I get longer que times for killer, but rarely for survivor, until now.

I stopped playing, will wait for them to figure this crap out. All my matches as either are vs crazy level differences or high pings.

  • Jane - None. I won't run her. Will get her for one of her perks.

Plague - Not sure. Will run her a bit and see if I like her. Then decide.

  • @Orion said:

It ignores Exhaustion, guarantees an escape (it's 5 seconds of SB, which gives a 30-meter head start), and oh yeah, heals you. If killers had a similar perk, it'd have been nerfed to hell already.

I can't tell you how many times I've downed the adrenaline chasee and killed them. Not a guaranteed escape.

  • @Orion On the occasion where I can convince my family to dare play survivor and face the deluge of camping and tunneling, we are always willing to reward a cool killer who got wrecked. Just Friday night we played 7 games together. We were blown away that 4 of them had a killer who neither camped, nor tunneled.

    Match breakdown:

    1. Camper, 3 of us escaped - very boring match.
    2. Really good Huntress with little to no camping. Owned us, but one of the most fun matches of the night, and a lot of laughs after match. (I say owned, but dammit, we got the gens done..and died before opening gates.)
    3. Tunneled me for the first 3 gens. I got unhooked, he tunneled me again. We all escaped.
    4. Nurse - he was clearly learning how to play nurse. We lost him pretty easily several times. He got no hooks by the time the 5th gen was done. So, we "accidently" ran into him and ran around a few minutes. Then two of us ran to hooks and gave him kills. He was very thankful afterwards and we agreed to play KYF with him so he could learn how to manage his ports.
    5. Camper - 2 of us escaped. My son is never willing to let him mother just die on hook. Fed LF his second kill.
    6. Spirit - He was running prayer beads, and gave us some good jump scares. Hatch escape. Was fun.
    7. Hag - scary, and a lot of fun. But failed to score a kill before 5th gen. Two of us ran to hooks again (different 2 than last time) and gave him 2 kills.

Most of the time I play killer, I find plenty of toxic survivors. Friday was the first time in month where I found the majority (out of 7) killers to not be campers or tunnelers. It was the most fun my wife and kids have had in DbD in a long time. Hoping they agree to play more.

Not all survivors/killers are azzhats. Try not to lump them all together.

  • The fact that anyone says Billy is balanced shows that they have no idea of what balance is. Seriously, a character who can cross the map in a matter of 3-4 seconds and one shot someone is not balanced, period. I see good Billy players ending most "loops" with chainsaw hits rather easily.

Billy is what he is. He is not balanced, but he is not unbeatable either. Good stealth teams, or really good loopers can give him a hard time.
