No killer vs killer mode? 😥
-
It would be abusable. There's another recent thread where this exact idea was tossed around.
@DesiringEagle75 said:
There has been a lot of talk about the perk Decisive Strike. Many, including myself, knew how broken Old DS used to be and the unfair advantages it gave to survivors. It gave the survivor a second chance and the only counterplay to it were dribbling or slugging the obsession. Not that much counterplay. With the new DS, it became a healthier perk to the game and a "supposed" counter to tunneling. However as time passed, people were able to find new ways to use DS against the killer, returning to the same problem Old DS had, only this time the invulnerability was limited to 60 seconds per hook. With this new change I believe we can solve the many issues this perk has while still holding the main function of the perk. This is my suggestion.
Using whatever is at hand, you stab at your aggressor in an ultimate attempt to escape.
After being unhooked or unhooking yourself, Decisive Strike will become active and usable for 20/25/30 seconds.
The timer will pause while in the Killer's Terror Radius. The timer will pause when you're within 20 meters from the Killer. Timer unpauses when in dying state. While Decisive Strike is active, when grabbed by the Killer, succeed a Skill Check
to automatically escape the Killer's grasp and stun them for 5 seconds.
- Succeeding or failing the Skill Check will disable Decisive Strike.
- Successfully stunning the Killer will result in you becoming the Obsession.
Increases your chances of being the Obsession.
The Killer can only be obsessed with one Survivor at a time.
So what changes is that the perk has a lower timer, but the timer pauses while you're in the killer's terror radius. I got inspiration from what Second Wind was going to be until the new change it received in the PTB. So a reverse Second Wind v1.So essentially the change made to DS is a lower timer in exchange for the timer to pause while you're near the Killer. The inspiration to make this change was from the secondary effect Mettle Of Man has when you get healed and run a certain distance from the killer. This new perk change will still allow you to counter tunneling while allowing for more counterplay by the killer. The Killer can leave the survivor after they get unhooked and get less chance to pick them up by accident even though they weren't tunneling and stop survivors from being too cheeky in front of the Killer. This change also allows for the survivor to run away to safety and if by chance the killer decides to chase the unhooked survivor, they face the situation where they can chase the survivor for 5 minutes and still get hit by the DS. Now for some issues this could bring.
This change could have a lot of unwanted effects with killers with no TR. But we already have that situation with borrowed time's deep wound timer and the Pig's masks. Plus they waste time because you still have 30 seconds where you can't be hooked. Another problem this could bring are killers with huge TR (like Doc) where the survivor could stay inside the TR and never have the timer tick down. But again you could just find and slug the survivor and wait the 30 seconds. These are the only situations I can think of but if you guys can find any problems or tips on how to make this perk work better I would be please to hear!As of right now, the only issue I could see with this change is situations where the unhooked survivor runs away and just as the timer is about to expire, they go back to a chase with the Killer and surprise the Killer with a DS. Kinda like the strategy people use with sprint burst. But if this were to occur, the Killer could easily slug the survivor for an extra five seconds and then pick the survivor back up. The Killer can easily notice if the the survivor that got unhooked came back 20 seconds after they were saved and you could just ignore them because again -> If they're not on a gen, they're not worth your... tem?TL;DR: Reduce the timer DS has but make the timer pause while
in the Killer's TRyou're within 20 meters from the Killer and unpause when you’re down. This will prevent situations where the Killer gets punished by DS even though they weren’t tunneling and lowers the amount of time survivors are invulnerable but still allows for them to escape to safety.EDIT: After some nice talk, I decided to change the conditions of being inside the Killer's Terror Radius to a specific distance the survivor gets from the Killer. The change still allows everything said above to happen, but just removes all the variables and extreme situations that can come from using a Killer's TR.
I have a couple posts in there where I go into detail about why that suggestion wouldn't work.

Thank you this was much more insightful.
No problem.
Asking the devs to take a look at the slugging mechanic because it's not fun is one thing. Saying that killers should be punished for using one of the few mechanics they have at their disposal is another. Killers don't necessarily want to slug. I rarely slug for the 4k, usually only if I'm going for an achievement. If the killer cares about pipping in higher ranks, they're basically forced to slug for the 4k or risk depipping. That's not the killer's fault, that's the way the game is designed.
Appealing to devs that the requirements for pipping be adjusted so killers aren't forced to slug for the 4k, that'd be a good way to go. Killers have been requesting that, themselves.
I also think that, if the survivor has been in the dying state for a certain amount of time, they should be able to "concede," leaving behind a husk and collecting their points so that they can move on to a new match. There's no reason to force a player to watch themselves bleed out, but as the game is designed right now we also can't just take away the killer's ability to slug.
-
@Darkwraith13 "I want to punish this person for playing in that manner."
That's what you said. That's the kind of unhealthy attitude that divides this community. There's no way to give constructive criticism to that comment. All I can do is offer to let you have your wish and bleed out rather than be hooked.
I've gone up against killers that decided to slug all four survivors and let us bleed out. Why? As far as I know, the others didn't do anything to deserve it. I certainly didn't.
I'm tired of playing solo survivor and having killers attempt to punish me for the sins of other survivors. And I'm tired of playing nice as killer and having survivors attempt to punish me for the sins of other killers. It's not fun.
I don't run Ruin or any other gen slowing perks when I play killer. Slugging is how I can slow the game down without tunneling survivors out of the game. I don't like slugging, I know it's not fun for survivors, but that's the mechanic I have at my disposal.
For a while I ran DS, Unbreakable, Tenacity, and Flip Flop as survivor. That's how I countered slugging. IW is not meant to counter slugging, it's meant to counter constantly giving away your location with grunts of pain while you're injured, and it works great for that.

@Volfawott because I want to punish this person for playing in that manner. I want them to lose me. I want them to search desperately to find me before I die so they cannot get the points for the sacrifice on hook.
Is that how most survivors feel? Damn. Well, fine, I can just slug you guys and not hook you. I'll read my book while you guys bleed out, I really don't mind.

Best: Wraith
I dunno about worst. Plague's is lazy, but it's not bad looking. Huntress, maybe. I like the mask, but the body is bleah. Or Spirit; the bulges are a bad look for her.
I wish the Spirit Halloween cosmetic looked more like it does there. Her body could be black and smokey with pops of glowing orange... no bulges. Spirit's my favorite killer, so not liking her current Blight cosmetic breaks my heart.

I've had pallets slammed on my head by survivors I didn't know were there. Makes me jump. Especially when it's to my side and I didn't even realize there was a pallet there much less a survivor.

Really? Maybe that's a regional thing more than a PS4 thing. I think Myers is one of the killers I run into most often.

SO YOU THINK FORCING A PLAYER TO SIT ON GROUND FOR 4 MINUTES AND NOT BE ABLE TO PLAY IS NOT HOLDING THEM HOSTAGE? THEY CANT END THE GAME THEMSELVES THEY ARE FORCED TO STAY THROUGH THE ENTIRE THING. Obviously a killer main since you like to justify it, bet you also argue that ruin is necessary to "slow down the game" by the way your cliche just like the people who slug.
... I'm so confused. Did you actually read what I wrote? After stating what the developers of the game define as "being held hostage," I said slugging isn't fun for survivors. I said I don't believe players should be forced to bleed out on the ground for four minutes. Without completely removing the slugging mechanic, the best solution would be to allow a survivor to "concede" and leave behind a husk, getting their points and moving on, after being in the dying state for a certain amount of time.
Not that it even matters, but I play both killer and survivor. When I play killer, I don't use Ruin. I use Distressing, Beast of Prey, BBQ, and Whispers. No add-ons. For a while as survivor I was running DS, Unbreakable, Tenacity, and Flip Flop.
Edit: Oh, except today, I did use a different perk build. I played as Nurse with no add-ons using Thrill of the Hunt, Monstrous Shrine, and Enduring. Just thought I'd add that; I didn't want anyone to think I'm a liar about what perks I use.

But they dont leave even with BBQ on seen it so many times. Most just spirit and billies leave due to the quick speed. Everyone else just knows a rough estimate where you r and still camps anyways. I'm not saying nerd bbq. But defend it with BS statements.
But on a real note, buff distortion and it would be a good turn towards immersive play styles. The way the game is suppose to be.
That is all
Thank you all.
"But defend it with BS statements."
I'm going to assume you meant to say "don't defend it with BS statements." None of my statements were BS, though. I stated why BBQ is designed the way it is and what purpose it's supposed to serve. I can't control how some players utilize or don't utilize it. Not that it really matters, because it's not like they're somehow abusing the perk by not using the information it gives.
If the killer leaves the hook because they saw an aura with BBQ, then it benefits the survivor on the hook. If the killer doesn't leave the hook, then the aura-reading part of BBQ was wasted. Sucks for the survivor on the hook, but that should make everyone saying they don't want killers to come after them because they saw their aura with BBQ happy, right?
-
I pretty much always run BT. It's really great for risky end game saves. I get really annoyed at how often other survivors come in without BT and don't even bother to take the aggro, getting me and other survivors killed.
-
I dodge if there are multiple people playing the same character. I go out of my way not to tunnel, but I get easily confused if there are multiples of the same character. Sometimes I'll ditch for two, usually for three, and it's basically a guaranteed ditch if there are four of the same character.
If I just want to play a chill game where I'm not sacrificing anyone, I may ditch if there are too many toolboxes, because there's not much point in playing a two-minute laidback match.

If the devs are removing my ability to spam Pig's dash attack roar, then they should remove flashlight click spam, too!
... What I meant to say is, please don't remove my ability to spam Pig's dash attack roar.
Anyway, flashlight clicking can be annoying, but it's not really a big deal. At least if they're clicking their flashlight they're not working on gens. Over time I've gotten used to a lot of this dumb stuff and it bothers me less.

🥴if bbq has so many counters, then why is it a problem to limit the number of aura readings?
Why is everyone still attacking me and mocking my "logic" but happily skirting on by my question?
If BBQ has so many counters, then why is it necessary to limit the number of aura readings?
It goes both ways, man.
But, in answer to your question: the number of times I hook someone, look around, and see no auras with BBQ is quite large. Let's say I get eight hooks, I may only see auras for three of those eight BBQ procs. If we limit the number of times I can see auras, I may only see auras with BBQ once or even zero times during a match.
If we limit the number of times BBQ can see auras, then the devs would have to start removing the ways survivors can counter it. Lockers hiding auras and being able to duck behind unfinished generators would have to be nerfed.
It's still not a good idea, though. BBQ incentivizes killers to leave the hook. When the killer hooks a survivor, they know for sure where one survivor is; if they stay on that survivor, it's called hook camping, and that makes everyone playing survivor unhappy. If the killer sees an aura with BBQ, then they know where two survivors are. If the killer leaves the hook to chase the second survivor, the one on the hook can be saved and the second survivor can run, juke the killer, etc. It's healthy for the game.

I'm fine with the sabo daily. I wish they'd get rid of the "Open an exit gate as _____" dailies. They're such a pain, I always trash those. Even if I survive and finish repairing the final gen two feet from an exit, someone Sprint Bursts out from behind a tree to beat me to opening the exit gate.
Daily Rituals to cleanse dull totems would be nice, though, I could get behind that.
-
A first-person POV would be limiting, ie the player receives less information. The less information a person has, the scarier something is. Plus, third person POV distances the player from the experience. I've never really understood why this game was created so that the survivors play in third person and killers play in first person. Seems backwards.

Monstrous Shrine should just be base kit.
Beast of Prey: I think it's fine right now, but should get some attention in the future. I'd rather other perks get looked at first.
Overcharge: I like the idea of having two difficult skill checks instead of one. But Pop shouldn't be combined into it since Pop is powerful on it's own. Especially at T3, when it regress 33% or so of a gen's progress.
Beast of Prey: exactly as it is now, except add "Gain 50% more Bloodpoints for actions in the Brutality Category."
There. Perfect. Then, between the Brutality and Hunter categories, it adds up to a 100% gain (Distressing has a gain of 100% in Deviousness). I mean, it's really more of a farming perk than a mind games perk, might as well embrace that.

Are you on console or PC? Queue times are pretty awful for me on both killer and survivor atm. I'm not sure if it's bugged or if it's a rank/location issue. I get it being depend on queue time. c:
Console. I play on PS4. The queue times can be all over the place. They often vary depending on the time of day, with sometimes survivor being quicker and sometimes killer being quicker.
-
I play both about equally, going through spurts where I might play one role more than the other, which is usually dependent on queue times more than my mood.
-
Salt or threats that they're reporting you? Doesn't really matter, I've gotten both. If you play DbD, you're gonna get messages.
One of my favorite salty messages so far was when a bad speller called my friend a gardening implement.

The balance is all over the fricken place. Like you'd think it would be easy. Pie Chart: Killer takes up half, Survivors take up the other half with 1/4 each on that side.
Now, before any Survivors tell me what the Devs said, I know. 2 escapes and 2 kills. How do you make the balance work then? I can tell you what it SHOULDN'T be: everyone with 1/5th of the pie chart. Hell sometimes it feels even weirder than that.
I honestly don't understand HOW they have the game balanced at all. Moris are crazy, Keys are crazy, BL is crazy, DS CAN be crazy with the 60 seconds, Killers tunneling is BM, Camping is BM but you can punish it easier.
Like, If I don't use a Killer that I know like the back of my hand, I might as well just let them do gens sometimes. Clown? Nope, Bully him cause he laughs when he hits you. Legion? (Well surprise I'm good at him so that tends to sneak up on them.) Doc? Just ignore him, gens are real. So on and so on.
I'm not saying that i'm upset that i'm not doing well. Let me make that clear. I can do bad on Spirit cause I don't know her at all. I'm upset cause it seems as soon as they know i don't know how to use the Killer, or the Killer isnt that great it's time to start the bully simulator or let's just pop all the gens cause he can't catch that one guy over there and cuss him out in post and tell him to off himself.
I don't understand toxic people, cause I'm not that way and have never felt the need to be.
I have a friend who sometimes plays killer on my account. He just wants to have a fun, chill time (he's crazy, I know). Sometimes he's actually able to, amazingly. He's not like a super skilled killer, though, and if he gets toxic survivors who realize that... well, I get ticked when I see survivors bully him.
... the fun thing is when I take the controller back and the survivors DC because the killer is no longer bully-able. Apparently, it's not fun if the killer's winning.
I've had matches too where I was trying to just have fun and goof off, and survivors turned what was supposed to be an automatic win for them into a death sentence.
If I'm trying to play as like Clown or something for a Daily and I'm having a terrible time of it, I'll usually just go stand by the exit gate the moment I finish the ritual; it's not worth the pain and suffering of continuing to play. I always wonder if the survivors notice or care that I stop playing midway through the match. I'm glad we don't have the end chat thing on console; survivors have to put in the extra effort if they want to say nasty things to me.
I don't get toxicity, either. I've never messaged anyone after a match. Doesn't matter if a killer tunneled me out of the game before the first gen popped and I ended with less than 1k BP, I've never sent a message to insult or even ask why. Sometimes I wonder, if a survivor messages me, who plays pretty damn fair, just how many messages are they sending out when they play? And how has their PSN account not been banned, yet?
-
Rocko's Modern Life, Batman the Animated Series, Daria, a whole bunch of different cartoons from the Disney Afternoon block.
Also a huge Invader Zim fan, but that came a little later.
-
The only names I remember are survivors (whether I'm playing killer or survivor, it's only ever survivors) who message me after a match to be salty. If you don't message me, then I'll never remember your name.
I dunno if the pool of players in my region on PS4 is huge or what, but I almost never see names I recognize. To be fair, I don't pay much attention to names, but I'm pretty sure I'd notice if I bumped into the same players repeatedly.

Ahhh....maybe I should try playing on console!
I guess it depends on where you live but when they switched, I haven't been able to get into a game. If you are playing against low speed hosts, that does suck and I empathize with you.
It's hard when you just want to play the game and you are a victim to garbage servers/hosts!
Well, right now, the killer still hosts on PS4 and Xbox. If you pay attention to the ping, you'll be fine 99% of the time.
I don't know how playing survivor on console compares to PC. I know that playing killer on console is more difficult than playing killer on PC, though, because of the framerate drops and how controllers provide less precision than a mouse. If you hate versing Nurse, you'll be glad to know you basically never see her on console. Personally, I see Myers a lot.

No more hosting high speed games. We are all victims of their dedicated servers.

LOL what? This sounds like a sanctioned, free disconnect mechanic that would just lead to a ton of Deerstalker + Knock Out builds.
For the OP: The answer is Unbreakable, and/or your teammates picking you up.
When slugged, the bleedout timer is 4 minutes. If you get slugged for the 4k and the other survivor camps the hatch, you're stuck there for those 4 minutes doing nothing. Sometimes, the killer seems to get annoyed at the crows I collect and sacrifices me, but otherwise I'm there for the 4 minutes. It's pretty pointless. There's no reason to keep the player in the game; if the player's willing to say, "Cool, you win," and leave behind a husk, and if it improves solo survivors' experiences because they don't feel like they're being held in a match against their will, not even being able to play and earning no BP for their wasted time, then it doesn't seem like that big a deal.
The time survivors spend on the hook is only two minutes, and they can suicide. This wouldn't be much different. When hooked, they can suicide right away; I mentioned a stipulation for "concede" that they needed to be in the dying state for a certain amount of time. Hell, on the hook they at least earn BP for struggling. Slugged survivors earn nothing.

Please it is completely unreasonable, when they make slugging a perk we can talk but till then dont try to justify abusing a manipulating a game mechanic to get your way and denying other people the ability to play the game. Thats completely ignorant and showing yourself off as a killer main immediately. Atleast stop to think before you post a reply. YOU HAVE ALL THE ADVANTAGE you get egc which if you wanna take that argument im completely prepared. you do realize you hold the game hostage by slugging right? whats the person on the ground suppose to do? and if the killer is slugging its not just once he's slugging all match so there goes unbreakable. Either slugging needs to be dealt with, survivors need to be allowed to dc or give survivors something built in and if its a ######### ability fine im good with that. I just dont feel like watching the game and not playing it.
First, I want to point out that slugging is not holding the game hostage. Holding the game hostage means the player being held hostage cannot end the game through normal means and is forced to disconnect. The bleedout timer when slugged is four minutes, after which you die. No disconnecting necessary. Holding the game hostage is a bannable offense so the term should be used correctly.
Second, I agree that slugging is not fun for survivors. The game should give survivors the option, after being in the dying state for a certain amount of time, to "concede," leaving behind a husk and exiting the match; they get their points and are able to move on to a new match.

While this is true, that survivor is always chasing you so they’re not doing anything productive. I see where this could be a problem if perhaps it was Doc playing in The Game, but you can always slug them for 30 seconds if your suspicious they were following you. And finally, while your idea would work quite nicely, the change would be useless if you can’t down people fast enough to use the benefits. Unless you’re destroying the survivors, you will usually get the first person killed with 1-2 gens remaining. Of course this depends on the Killer, how good the survivors are, and how well the Killer stopped gen progress.
Okay, this was a weird match, but it still illustrates my point: I get DS'd after two hooks. The survivor who DS's me stayed in my TR the whole time. They played poorly; I don't exactly play well in this clip, but I was still DS'd for trying to capitalize on their bad play. With only one gen left, this DS was very costly.
(Watching the video, it might seem obvious that I should've expected DS. Don't forget, it feels very different when you're actually playing vs watching a video.)
Considering I play like crap and can have this happen, I can't imagine how it is for better killers than me.
Doing well as killer is precarious. I watch streamers sometimes and see them doing well, doing well, then they make one mistake and lose the match for it (losing the match = one or fewer kills).
"the change would be useless if you can’t down people fast enough to use the benefits."
Personally, I don't see it that way. What I mean is, I'm not looking for a way to benefit killers. Deactivating DS by hooking other survivors isn't a benefit, it's just a way to prevent killers who don't tunnel from being DS'd.
Also, how would a killer know that the survivor's been hanging out in their TR? On The Game map, 90 seconds after being unhooked, the killer downs the survivor, picks them up, and gets DS'd because the survivor was within the killer's TR the entire time. The killer can't predict that and in some situations it's much harder to play around. If a killer comes across a survivor more than a minute after being unhooked, they're not going to be thinking that they may need to slug for 30 seconds to avoid DS.
Plus, if a killer without a TR can take advantage of a shorter DS by going into stealth mode, that doesn't really seem fair on the survivor. Especially when killers like Wraith and Pig are often notorious hook campers/tunnelers; those are situations where you definitely want DS at its full strength.

10 matches per day is hardcore. Seriously nowhere near casual. How much does it take to play 10 matches? Assuming one match takes 10 minutes om average you would spend 100 minutes purely playtime. This isn't including lobby time, matchmaking, loading screen, leveling your bloodweb etc.
I personally see a casual player as someone who spends like 4 hours just on the weekend and that's it.
I get two, maybe three matches an hour.
A casual player, according to the devs, is someone who plays about one hour a day. What's required to complete The Rift is a lot more than that.

I care because it ruins the game for 3 other Survivors.
Even when playing Killer; I feel like crap if one player ragequits (be it DC or hook-suicide). Because now I came to try my best, but that'd be almost bullying when they are 1 man down in the first 2 minutes, so do I let them all escape? 1? 2? how do I decide which 2? Will they have fun if they lose? Will they have LESS fun if I'm not actually trying to catch them?
Just grow TF up and don't ragequit.
This is one reason why lately when I play killer I don't bother using add-ons. If someone DCs or suicides on their first hook, I can go afk at an exit gate and wait for the other survivors to finish the gens and leave. I lose nothing but a couple minutes and they get to escape without feeling bullied. Sometimes I try to farm or something, but that's pretty boring and sometimes I'll have another survivor DC if I try to hook them, which means gens will then take even longer to finish.

Like no? Everyone would just change to another long range information perk like "Surveillance". No need to make good perks useless.
When I run a farming build as killer (which, right now, is 100% of the time), I get to have two perks that are actually useful gameplay-wise. I hate that lately I keep seeing people who want that to be taken down to one useful perk. -_-

Survivors can abuse this by staying in the killer's TR.
Anti-tunneling version of DS: DS is active for 60 seconds following being unhooked. If 4 survivors are left and 2 are hooked, DS deactivates; if 3 survivors are left and 1 is hooked, DS deactivates; if 2 or fewer survivors are left, DS doesn't activate because tunneling is not a thing at that point. DS does not activate during the EGC.
I doubt DS is actually going to get changed anytime soon, though, so this is all just kind of wishful thinking.

I've heard legends talking of this but it has never happened to me (1400h btw). I think I would still try to complete the last gen because I'm very good at hiting skillchecks honestly.
I thought the problem with 3-gen Doc was that he basically keeps survivors in Madness Tier 3 so that they literally can't complete gens due to being forced to snap out of it first?

I suicide against killers so laggy that I can't play the game.
Or, if it's a Bloodhunt and the killer is seriously camping the hook, I'll suicide so I can actually play the game and earn BP.

Teabagging says more about the players that do it than it does about the killer they're doing it to. It always makes me laugh that the injured Feng on her death hook that's the only one barely escaping takes the fraction of a second to teabag at the exit line. Congratulations you idiot, I killed the rest of your team and damned near you too, but you're gonna teabag me. ######### you lol
It really does say more about the survivor than anything.
The crazy thing is when I've killed three survivors, and the fourth one, knowing they're dead, will just teabag and/or flashlight click at me like crazy. So, I kill them. Meanwhile, in some other match, I kill three survivors, I find the fourth, and the fourth one just surrenders... I let them have the hatch or an exit gate.

This. I've had dance offs that were so good the survivors forgot to leave!
Some stay behind on purpose and some misjudge the timer. The EGC death animation is so awesome, so while I feel a little bad that a friendly survivor mistimed their exit and died, I also love that I get to watch them get impaled. lol

Any chance to get an extra three pieces of cosmetics when the event starts to make up for the delay?
I second this. BHVR has made us very sad today. Something like this might provide a bit of comfort. 😢

I've been into horror movies for a long time. I started playing DbD so I'd have horror-related gameplay to post on YouTube last Halloween and I just kept with it.
My favorite horror movie is John Carpenter's The Thing. It's one of the best movies ever.

Monstrous Shrine: instead of what it currently is, make it so that perks like DS, Babysitter, Camaraderie, and BT no longer proc if a survivor is in the basement. The basement is supposed to be dangerous; this would make the basement a lot more dangerous, but the killer still has to equip a perk to do it rather than just outright buffing the basement.

Nope, It doesn't interest me that much.
If anything it has me concerned with the difficulty of the later tier challenges and the impact that's going to have on matches with People DCing. It's bad enough already but it's going to get a lot worse when people start to DC everytime they cant complete a challenge or want to prevent others from completing theirs.
The husk mechanic should've been released before these challenges, or there should be no challenges that have no other way to be completed except within one match.
If the Master challenges at least had two options, it wouldn't be so bad. Like, either sacrifice 4 survivors in the basement in one match or sacrifice a total of 9 survivors in the basement. That way, if you get 3 games where you sacrifice 3 in the basement and the last one DCs, the game at least takes pity on you.

I can see your point. I still think it's F tier and the highly situational aspects of the perk make it needless to bring up in terms of countering BBQ. But I'll respect it has "some" uses a bit more. it's like Calm Spirit... might come in handy once in a blue moon but is overall a waste of a slot.
Yeah, I definitely wouldn't say it's a great perk, but it's not totally useless. It can also help completely new players who don't have all the perks and their counters memorized, yet; it won't protect them forever, but it may help them stay in the game a little longer.

I used Distortion on Jeff mostly because I didn't have better. I think it had potential, but it's limitations really holds it down.
I think it's probably really difficult for the devs to balance perks in an asymmetrical game. Too weak and no one uses it, but too strong and it quickly becomes OP if multiple survivors bring it. You don't want a perk that'll make the killer say "screw it" and quit playing if all four survivors come equipped with it. In that case, it's better to err on the side of the perk being weaker. Plus, the devs want the killer to find survivors. The survivors are supposed to be found.
The devs probably took a look at the average number of times a survivor's aura is revealed to the killer (barring killer add-ons) in a match and went from there, making sure the number of tokens was below the average without being completely useless.

It's fun as hell to play Ghostface and dance around in the exit gate teabagging with survivors. I'd hate if the game took that away from me.
If I don't want to see survivors gloating, I just don't go near the exit gates. I usually spend my time post-final-gen looking for the hatch in case I get the chance to close it or at least deny it to a greedy survivor. With the EGC, it's not longer necessary to go anywhere near the gates to force them out; the timer takes care of that on its own.

Nah, I was just calling out how awful Distortion is to even try to use it as a counter to saying BBQ is fine as it is. I am mostly fine with BBQ myself, but I sure as heck can't stand someone bringing up some situational F tier perk as some holy grail to counter it.
Distortion isn't a good way to counter aura reading: it's a good way to know if you need to counter aura reading. A survivor gets hooked far away and Distortion doesn't go off? No need to waste time hiding in a locker. You hear the killer's TR while you're healing and Distortion doesn't go off? No need to stop healing. It'a an anti-time-waster perk.
It can also help you strategize if you find out the killer's running Bitter Murmur: save the final token for when the last gen pops, or make sure you're in a locker when the last gen pops.

BBQ is fine where it is. If you're getting killed by it, it's honestly on you when there's so many ways to counter it. And if you're not doing that, you're just not doing your job as a survivor.
"If you're getting killed by it, it's honestly on you when there's so many ways to counter it. And if you're not doing that, you're just not doing your job as a survivor."
I actually think this makes a really good point. Playing survivor is more than just doing gens; this isn't a gen-repair sim. If you know certain perks are popular on killers, then playing around them is part of playing survivor.
Killers have to play around survivor perks. Expecting to encounter popular survivor perks and trying to counter them is part of playing killer. Dead Hard? You lose a few seconds baiting that out during a chase. And, if you don't bait it out, you lose even more than a few seconds. Trying to make sure to hit the unhooker instead of the unhooked in case of Borrowed Time, or waiting out the 15 seconds. Adrenaline doesn't even have a counter other than not letting gens get finished, which is obviously easier said than done.
BBQ has a whole bunch of counters that don't even take up a perk slot. It's not OP.
