  • It serves a purpose: it counters Adrenaline.

I hate playing solo survivor, cleansing four dull totems, and then dying to NOED, anyway. I wish that wouldn't happen, but that's just part of me being really unlucky in this game. As long as Adrenaline exists, NOED needs to be there as its counter. To get rid of one of either of those perks would mean getting rid of both to keep the balance.

  • I've had some good ones. One was when I was going for the "sacrifice one survivor during the EGC" challenge. Playing Spirit, I managed to have three of the survivors dead on hook by the time the last gen popped. I had NOED. I really wanted to get this one Claudette with a flashlight who'd been rather annoying during the match. Well, I see her at the edge of the exit gate; if I hit her she'd fall right out, so damn, so much for that. Except, when I walked away, rather than leaving, she started running in circles at the front of the exit gate. So, I phased behind her, and surprise! NOED. I got to sacrifice her and complete my challenge. I was sooo happy.

    Probably my absolute favorite, though...

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eh3zVwGGyTg&t=636s

At 10:36, I spot the only survivor I haven't hooked, yet, a Claudette. She's running towards the exit, and it's one millisecond away from opening, she's gonna get out and I'll have only hooked three of the survivors...

Well, it's worth watching what happens.

Don't forget we also got a 10~11 day headstart as we started earning rift progress on the 18th of October.

People keep saying "I'm already at tier 25 first week in!" but it's actually been three weeks.

Oh yeah, I know. I'm kinda upset about that, too; because nothing was going on in DbD that week, I barely played, so I didn't start with many extra tiers in the Rift. So instead, I'm trying to grind what I can with a broken PS4 controller (some days are better than others; today, it's been really bad), unable to hardly play because it tells me "DUALSHOCK disconnected" in the middle of a chase, but due to the time constraints on the Rift I'm basically left with no choice. If I'm going to spend a bunch of money on something, it's going to be for a new controller, not for a bunch of tiers + a premium pass in a game I've already spent way too much money on. So, useless I'm-lucky-to-hit-two-survivors-in-a-match killer I am.

Ugh, why does it have to be 8k XP per Rift tier? Battlepasses in other games I've seen have been much more reasonable. My friend who plays Red Dead Redemption Online sees the DbD battlepass and thinks it's nuts I'm attempting it. Fornite is f2p and even that cashgrab of a game is more reasonable. That so many things on the Rift are recolors or simple charms (how many charms are just Trapper's face?) really makes me question whether it's worth the money or effort, too.

10 games a day, assuming they're full games, when sometimes queue times can take over 5 minutes before you even get into a match.

It's taking me over 3 hours, sometimes 4 hours to fill in the required "quota" every day. And that's with me just making the assumption that I will be able to complete every challenge in the tomes.

I earned two tiers on the Rift yesterday. Playing only killer matches and averaging about 500 XP per match, it took me six hours for the first tier. Earning the second tier included the daily survivor and killer matches bonus XP, and other than that it was all killer matches averaging about 550 XP; that took four hours and fifteen minutes.

    That is so not reasonable.

Yeah. I'm always finger-wagging my wife for how she spends her time in whatever this city-builder mobile game is that she's playing. It's one of those "OK, [TASK] will be done in 2 hours!" types games that incentivizes her to check in periodically all day, every day. So there will inevitably be times when I'm like "Yo, come to bed, it's late" while she's waiting for some arbitrary timer.

Dead by Daylight feels like it's going to get that way with the Rift.

I tried a game like that once... they kept upping the amount of time it took, which inevitably chased me away. I've tried a few other games with pay-up-or-deal-with-this-time-barrier mechanics, which I always get bored with pretty quickly. At some point I just sort of forget to keep checking until they disappear from my days altogether. I'd much rather play a game I actually get to play.

Business interests and player-friendliness could -- and should -- definitely align in a less predatory way, in this case. I know this is a product, made by a business, and they want to make money from it. I enjoy the game, and I have spent money on cosmetics, because I am happy to support products that I enjoy. I spent money on the first premium Rift pass. I will happily spend money on more of them, if I don't feel like I'm being taken advantage of by a system that is designed in a way that I have little to no hope of completing.

What you're describing here is just not true, either. Dead by Daylight is a game that costs $19.99 upfront, with a collection of DLC that breaks the $100 mark at this point. The people who are playing the game, and engaging with this system, have already bought into it. They didn't get anything "for free."

Also, I really think it bears repeating my point here that this system, and all systems like this, should be targeted toward normal, well-adjusted adult human beings with careers and families and other interests. As of May 2019, the average age of gamers (at least in the US) is 33 (source: https://www.theesa.com/esa-research/2019-essential-facts-about-the-computer-and-video-game-industry/).

Exactly this. I've bought all except the newest Stranger Things DLC. I bought all of Ash's outfits. I've bought Auric Cells for cosmetics. I have paid money into this game, which is still not optimal on PS4. I look at The Rift and all I see is something that has been designed to keep me from completing it, due to the difficulty of future Tome challenges, the amount of XP needed for each tier of the Rift, the fact that each Tome level is released at least two weeks apart, and the fact that I (like I'm sure many others) travel in December and will actually need to complete the Rift before December 12th, which is not only a few weeks earlier than the Rift closes but also before the final Tome challenges are released because of the ridiculous amount of time scheduled between each Tome level.

Trying to earn the XP needed to gain tiers on the Rift right now is already starting to make me feel burned out. I'm at tier 21. That's a bad sign for my future with this game. It should be fun, not a job.

  • So many map offerings and fog offerings I'll never use. I'd love to be able to sell them. And add-ons I'll never use, too.

It'd also be nice if you could like trade in two unwanted map offerings for the map offering of your choice or something. It can be really hard to get the map offering you want; a 1-to-1 trade would be too much, but I think 2-for-1 wouldn't be so bad.

I gotta do that with bubba still, just insidious and go sit by the chest in the basement not moving until someone comes down and messes with me, and then go nuts, sounds fun lol

I've never done it with Bubba. I like using Spirit 'cause she can phase over and grab them off the chest, which is a lot of fun. Surprise! It's amazing how many survivors will take that chance even when they see me standing in the corner of the basement.

May I ask what rank you are? I had the same problem early on of always getting caught right away. I had to start playing super stealthy and ran certain perks until I got used to where and when I could be more daring.

I'm at around 400 hrs now (50/50 surv/killer) and I'm just starting to get where I can safely rescue survivors during EGC. If you'd like I can share some specific tips that helped me out.

My rank is up and down, but I'm at Devotion 7. I've gotten as high as rank 4 as survivor, but I've never tried to reach red again since that one time. I think I usually don't go higher than rank 8 since then.

I'm that unlucky survivor who's usually found first. Doesn't matter if I run or creep around, if I go to a gen first thing or if I stealth around cleansing dull totems, the killer somehow comes straight to me. I had to get the Self-Unhook achievement using Slippery Meat and chalk offerings rather than Deliverance.

  • Games should be fun. That's the point. People aren't going to play if they're not having fun.

The problem I have when I play survivor isn't that some matches aren't fun; it's that 99% of matches aren't fun. I don't expect to escape, but I'd like to get a chance to participate. Can't really even get better if I don't get a chance to play.

Killer is stressful, which is why I usually meme around rather than play seriously and try to sacrifice anyone. Playing I'm-a-survivor-too Pig, teabag-off Ghostface, and guarding-the-basement-chest Spirit are often just more fun, which like I said, is the point of playing a game. There's plenty of other stuff to do in life if I don't want to have fun.

  • @wannabeuk said:

Yeah i can support the option to bleed out faster, i mean you can suicide on a hook, why not on the floor

I don't think there needs to be a "bleed out faster" option, just a "concede" option. After being in the dying state for a certain amount of time, a survivor should be able to "concede," leaving behind a husk so they can collect their points and move on to a new match. There's no reason to force a player to watch themselves bleed out for four minutes, unable to participate in actual gameplay, if they're willing to admit defeat.

  • Yeah, I've earned 20 Rift Fragments today. The first 10 took about 6 hours. Later, it took me about 4 hours and 15 minutes to earn another 10. That's over 10 hours to get 2 tiers on the Rift. That's crazy.

  • I don't even enjoy playing Legion and I bought that skin because it's so nice.

Making it fun doesn't increase revenue, sadly. How else are they supposed to tempt people into buying the last tiers they need to complete the Rift?

Making it not fun could decrease revenue, though. If players get burnt out on the game trying to complete the Rift, they're not going to buy more tiers or future Battlepasses or future DLC... they're going to quit playing. I'm already starting to feel that and I'm only at tier 21. It's over a week before new challenges will be posted to freshen up the gameplay, again. That's pretty poorly thought out.

  • @HatCreature said:

According to the numbers here the average is 500XP so if they decreased the amount of XP to 500 then that would be 1 Fragment per game and if you can get 10 games in an hour that would be 1 Tier per hours which would actually be the 70 hours they stated it would take to complete the Rift.

We have all stated here that playing for more than 1 hour has not gotten at least 1 Tier and I have been on Tier 19 all day and I've been playing most of the day; almost done though.

Yeah, 800 XP per Rift Fragment for a total of 8k XP per Rift tier is way too much. It took me 6 hours this morning to complete 1 tier on the Rift just doing killer matches averaging around 500 XP per match. This evening, it took me 4 hours and 15 minutes to complete 1 tier on the Rift. That was with the Daily Killer and Survivor matches' bonus XP, and all other matches were killer matches probably averaging around 550 XP.

    This is not reasonable.

  • The survivor can wiggle on the killer's shoulder to get free.

  • @Deadeye said:

@TragicSolitude Ok I missed the updated dates. But that is still 3 weeks each for tome 3 and tome 4. You can spend more than a day for each challenge in tome 4. Sure they are hard, and at least two of them seem ridiculously unfair like 3 unhooks in EGC and complete 4 gens in a single trial. These are actually bulls...

But the 6 hours for one rift you refer to is just talking about the XP. You gain progress finishing the challenges during that time as well. As I said, with normal gameplay I did apparently half a tier per day, without challenge progress.

The only thing that is broken is the queue times. Like said in the big calculations thread, you can't finish the rift with 1 hour per day, because you need 1 hour of XP gaining per day. That means, every minute a game lasts longer than 10 minutes (that' where you don't get more XP anymore) and the waiting time and everything around it, comes on top.

But that's why I said, more realistic is 2 hours per day. I have to search which thread it was, or search yourself, if you are interested in the details. But 2 hours a day is enough to get the rift done. If you manage to finish all the challenges in that time.

Personally, I (like probably many other people) travel in December. I probably won't get to touch tome level 4 before the Rift closes, so because they release the tome levels so far apart, I have to finish the Rift without the final challenges and a few weeks short of 70 days. Yay.

Releasing the final tome challenges mid-December is a terrible way to do it. The holidays are a busy time for a lot of people, and a lot of people travel for them.

  • @solie20 said:

If someone is trolling you then just leave them on the hook???

I'm just telling you the devs' answer to this; you're not the first person to propose it.

  • The serum stays in the Rift for the entire 70-day life cycle of the Rift. It doesn't go away when the Halloween event ends.

  • I worry about even joking about solving every problem in this game with a perk. The devs rely on that too much already.

  • @Deadeye said:

There is another thread that calculates what needs to be done. Ideally (which is not possible) you would need to play one hour per day in average to achieve the whole rift. Assuming that you finish all challenges during that time. More realistic with current queue times and spending bloodpoints from time to time it is more like two hours per day.

From the notes, you have one week to finish tome 1, two weeks for tome 2 up to 4 weeks for tome 4. The challenges get harder, so you progress slower through them, but you also got more time to do them before the next tome is opened or the rift is over.

Basically, you need to do 1 rift tier per day. 70 tiers, 70 days. But as the challenges get harder, you might to try to get some buffer before it comes to the hard challenges. It is not really that hard to achieve.

I played a bit more than normal this first archives week, and reached tier 20. According to the patch notes, it contains progress from 18th October. I started at tier 6 when archives got activated and am now on tier 20. So I had about 6 tiers in 12 days without challenges, 14 tiers in 6 days with challenges and a bit more gametime. Looks achievable.

And I think it should not be designed around casual players. If everyone could achieve it, the core gamers would finish a tier 70 rift in like one week, waiting 9 weeks for new stuff. And since it is just about cosmetics, it should not be such a big problem. The challenges stay active after the rift closes, so you won't miss the bloodpoints and fluff, just the cosmetics.

Each Tome level is spaced at least two weeks apart. Tome level 2 will be released on Nov 13, level 3 will be released on Nov 27, and level 4 will be released Dec 18. The Rift will close on Jan 8. That gives two and a half weeks to complete Tome level 4, which is going to be a lot more difficult that the previous tomes.

The dates on their Welcome to the Archives page https://deadbydaylight.com/en/news/welcome-to-the-archives haven't been updated to accommodate for the Archives/Rift being released late. The dates are corrected in their in-game News.

On that Welcome page, it says "Our goal for our first Tome and Rift is to base our completion targets on the average daily play time of 1 hour/user, provided by our internal data. Given this, completion of The Rift and all its rewards should take roughly 70 to 80 hours of gameplay, provided players accomplish Challenges from each role." However, it took me six hours of playing killer today, getting about 500 XP for each match, to acquire 10 Rift fragments. That's 6 hours to get one tier on their 70 tier Rift. That's ridiculous. Even hardcore players will have trouble with that, much less one-hour-per-day average players. Which is who they say they've based this around.

  • If it's such a problem, then DS is the best you'll get. The devs won't make it an option for survivors to deny being unhooked because it'd be used to troll other survivors.

  • And with ten shards to complete one tier on the Rift? It's not. I've been playing for over 5 1/2 hours today, killer matches with about 500 XP per match, and I haven't finished a single tier on the Rift. They did not design this to be fun.

  • I feel less motivated now that I finished the tome level 1 challenges. And earning tiers on the Rift takes way too long with XP. I've played killer today for 5 1/2 hours, about 500 XP per match, and haven't finished one tier on the Rift. Not only is this not meant for casual players, it doesn't even seem balanced for hardcore players. At least six hours for one tier on the Rift? With seventy tiers? It's about as frustrating as they could've made it.

  • I'd just like to point out that last night I stopped playing right after I finished level 18 on the Rift. I've been playing killer for 5 1/2 hours today, earning about 500 XP per match, and I still haven't completed level 19.

Five and a half hours and I haven't completed one level on the Rift. That's some bull.

  • Completing the tome challenges will only get you about halfway through The Rift, I think. You definitely still need to earn Rift Fragments via XP to complete it.

  • No one ever has a good response for how to play her on console better, either, other than just "it takes more than a couple matches to learn her." I put a couple Devotion levels' worth of time into her, and I still felt like a newb when I tried to use her. The bad FPS and the poor sensitivity, no one had any answers for how to work around those.

With her base kit change, it's not even worth trying, anymore. The problems with her on console already meant it was a struggle to have fun with her. Now she's not fun at all.

  • I finished the first tome and now the game feels directionless. I just... have nothing to do. I was looking forward to havinge new challenges, but the two week gap really hurts it. I don't feel anticipation for it; I'm just bored while I wait. Worse, due to them being spaced two weeks apart and needing to travel in December, it'll be a four week wait for me between playing the challenges for tome level 3 and tome level 4. That really sucks.

  • Survivors DC and suicide against any killer, not just Spirit.

Then I get to decide whether I want to sit around while the remainders to gens and leave or if I want to kill them so I can quickly move on to a new match where I can hopefully play the game for real.

I usually let them go. Guess that's the right decision, don't wanna be skewing the kill rate.

  • I hate it when teammates leave me on the hook to reach second state. Pressing the button on the controller gets to be too painful, so it only takes a couple matches before I just let myself die if they don't rescue me before I reach struggle state. It's not worth it to stick around, 'cause the killer will put me right back on the hook to immediately kill me. That can happen in any ranks, though, not just high ranks. 'Cause obviously I'm not high ranks.

  • @Cymer said:

I don't like dead bodies in dead by daylight, simply because it doesn't fit the narrative. The game should represent an endless struggle of the survivors between hope and fear. They are doomed to repeat the cycle over and over again. It doesn't matter, how often you die or escape. You will end up at the campfire again and get dragged back into one realm of the entity to face one of her killers.

Dead bodies would suggest, that there is a way out. That death can be a solution and escape from the entity.

There are dead bodies in Hawkins. The dead bodies aren't actually the bodies of previous survivors; they're the memories of dead bodies.

I don't know if I'm explaining that right. There are dead cows on Lery's. The cows were never in the Entity's realm. It would be the same with any human corpses. They could be random human corpses, or they could be the memories of the Doctor's dead victims.

I can still play nurse fairly well with this change, but the most annoying thing is that she isn’t very fun anymore. Power bars are just a lazy and annoying addition to a power that didn’t need changing.

I couldn’t even imagine trying to learn nurse as she is right now.

That's why I kept arguing against the base kit changes. It wasn't about strength or speed or SWF; it's just that it was going to make the Nurse not fun to play as. I assume she was at least fun to play as on PC. She could be kind of fun on console, though it was a struggle; now, though, it's just miserable. I can't imagine why anyone would bother.

You think the devs would want players to have fun with their product, but that's apparently not the case. I have to wonder if they understand what fun is when they add a power bar to Nurse and the main objective for survivors is kneeling in front of a generator holding down a button for 80 seconds x5.

If you can't play an average of 1 hour a day you probably shouldn't complain about grind you're barely playing of course it'd be a grind.

1 hour a day is what the devs were aiming for also.

The bonus is your teammates not dying as fast. The perk is top tier already, it doesn't need anything.

Yeah, but none of the survivors I play with ever care about that part, because 95% of them don't run it.

  • I completed it yesterday.

    I feel so directionless, now.

  • I like having something new to do. Playing survivor and working on gens is either boring or frustrating, and playing killer is repetitive and stressful. The challenges provided something new to do for a couple days. It would've been nice if the event provided something different to do within the game, too.

  • After finishing the challenges, I'm even more bored with the game than I was before... it really feels like there's nothing to do. Even earning BP to prestige characters isn't holding my attention.

They really have too much time between tome releases.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

I feel like challenges should have two options:

One for which can be completed in a single trial, ala, search 3 chests,

Or a secondary objective which is just search 5 chests. No matter how many trials. Not separate the two into two different challenges.

This would make it easier to complete the challenges, as you can either skillfully complete one instantly, or take a slow but easier path, so people who aren't good with one role or the other don't get shafted at all with challenges that are way out of their league.

As for having to spend the blood points for the perk, I don't have an easy answer for that unfortunately. I never really played Trapper until now (though did get his teachables). I have been enjoying him so far though, so at least I haven't felt "put out" by the blood points I've had to invest into him. I know I'm going to be feeling the burn when I'm going to be required to play Dwight or whatever when the time comes, though.

I agree that challenges that require an excess of skill/luck should have a second, grindier option for unlucky/less skilled players. That still wouldn't make the Archives/Rift totally casual friendly, but it'd be a start.

  • I get really frustrated as survivor that so many of my teammates don't use BT, but I don't think it should be base kit: it's just too strong of a perk. Instead, it should have a "selfish" benefit attached to it that would make it more attractive to solo survivors, like some sort of BP bonus.

  • Yeah, the narration's not good. To make it worse, when I turn Autoplay off, it doesn't stay off. It keeps resetting back to "on." It should stay off forever unless I change the setting myself.

  • I finished earlier today. Didn't take too long, wasn't frustrating. The "kill 4 survivors in 1 match" was the last one I did. One of them DC'd just before I hooked them for the third time, but the challenge still counted it, so that was good.

  • I don't know about on PC, but on console there is definitely a way that killers can quit and it causes the survivors to get nothing for the match. The survivors are returned to the main screen and no points are rewarded. It sucks. This has been a long-standing problem that should've been fixed ages ago. It's even worse now that there are the Archive challenges.

I see what you're saying, but I think swf needs to be brought down, not solo's brought up. Having solo's brought to their level provides way too much information and ruins a lot of the games horror factor that you gain from the unknown of a solo game. Killers already need buffs now so if solo's were brought up to swf levels then killers would need massive buffs.

Personally, I'd prefer that, too. But how do you bring down SWF without hurting solo survivors and without losing the SWF players? The thing that gives SWF such an advantage is their communication, and there's no way to take that away from them.

  • @Blueberry said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/803635#Comment_803635

SWF is still much stronger than solo survivor, yes. However, even as 4 solo's the game is still vastly in the survivors favor bar a few odd exceptional scenarios.

But my point that the game can't be properly balanced between survivors and killers when such an imbalance between just survivors (solo vs swf) exists stands. Solo and swf should be on more equal footing, and then data can be collected to see where killers stand. Otherwise, if killers are nerfed first and then solos are buffed, it may throw the whole system out of whack again. Doing it in the proper order now would save them time, money, and headache later.

  • @Blueberry said:

They need to be buffing weaker killers instead of nerfing the stronger ones. Their priorities are off. Spirit is one of the most balanced killers in the game and is where they should be aiming to get the rest the killers up to, not bringing her down.

I'd like to see solo survivor buffed first before killers start getting brought down. Nurse's add-ons needed fixing. Spirit's Prayer Beads Bracelet add-on should be changed or at least made UR. But big changes to killers should come after buffs to solo survivor; the gap between solo and SWF is too big to be making changes to killers. Nothing can be balanced for both solo and SWF when solo and SWF aren't equal in the least. It's hurting the game.

  • @Haku said:

A fast question got you guys. Are we supposed to get only 1k BP from the event gens ? Cause I don't know if it was a dream but I thought I saw sometihng like 3k or 4k yesterday for a gen or was it my eyes ?

If you burn an event offering, you get 3k per event gen. If you don't, it's 1k per event gen. (I think those are the correct numbers. But yeah, you get more points if you burn the event offering.)

  • I suddenly started getting this error, too. Can't get a survivor match at all. Haven't tried killer.

  • What the hell makes you think our voices matter in this? They nerfed Nurse, who has a higher learning curve than Spirit, and who they admitted does terrible in the lower ranks but does well in red ranks. They didn't just nerf Nurse, either, but made QoL worse with her so that she's not fun to play as.

I love playing as Spirit. She's the only killer I consistently enjoy. It's quite likely I'll stop playing DbD after whatever they do to her, because they're not good at the "soft touch"; she'll without a doubt be ruined. Despite having spent more money on this game than I ever should have, I'm not naive enough to think that makes a difference and that they'll care about my opinion. It's almost certainly a lost cause.

  • It's also really dumb that the release of the levels is spaced out so far apart. They really don't need to be spaced out at all, but one week for each would've been fine. Level 4 gets released in December, when a lot of people travel to visit family and such. A lot of players will get little chance to play it before the Rift is up.

Luckily doesnt bother me much in SWF since we just troll for WGLF stacks and focus on the archive challenges.

I haven't tried Killer yet but i'm not looking forward to it.

I've been seeing people say that one of the challenges requires mori'ing all four survivors in a single match. Not sure if that's correct or not, I'm not that far yet, but I expect I'll be seeing more moris soon if that's the case.

  • I try to play well for the most part as survivor when I do the challenges. As killer, I don't care, I'll do whatever I want. If I want to chase crows around Lery's like a two-year-old, then that's what I'll do. I've never had survivors complain when I meme around, pretending to work on gens as Pig; this is no different.

Same I think the halloween event in DbD should be something special but this just feels lazy and extremely boring there is no inovation in slapping serum into a bad battle pass

Exactly. With the serum in the Rift, there's no motivation to play the event. Maybe if the event rewarded double XP or something to help with getting Rift fragments, then I'd care, but it doesn't help unlock the serum any more than playing outside of the event. As is, it feels like an afterthought. "HERE'S THE RIFT, LOOK AT ALL THIS STUFF! Look at this new lore! Try out our challenges! ... (oh, and also, we put some pumpkins on your gens.) Enjoy!"
