Tunneling is somewhat easier. Make it harder to tunnel someone out until a couple of gens are done, or until a few minutes have passed since the match began, and then deactivate that system.

But do you not see you are literally satisfying the exact point being made... you're imposing limits that remove killer choice, and the more you slice away at that, the less of a player the killer is and the more of a performing chimp that must adhere to the shackles the game becomes.

There are numerous mechanics to combat tunneling in the game already, if you start imposing some arbitrary system that prevents it completely, then survivors can unhook for free without having to think about what the killer might do.

For slugging I do agree that it has more problems. My suggestion has always been to be ablento enter "Desperation" once above 95% recovery:

    • Bleedout 75% faster
    • Make 50% louder grunts of pain
    • Move 50% faster

This doesn't remove slugging, it doesn't remove killer agency, but it adds more agency to survivors, which should be the goal. This would be a change I would welcome. However when people say stuff like "basekit Unbreakable", then we really start to have problems.

This is the entire point being made in the video and my OP, you can't keep placing arbitrary shackles on the killer role, it is a poison pill that seems to keep killing asym games.

If this game was better designed, there wouldn't be any need for a bunch of restrictions. Unfortunately, this game allows killers to incapacitate survivors and bleed them out for minutes at a time.

If the devs added a mechanic that disabled the killer's ability to move for four minutes, would you be in favour of that, even if it was balanced somehow? Would you support taking away that freedom from survivors? I'd hope so, as any mechanic that stops people from playing the game is awful.

I do of course disagree with that playstyle, this "slugging is better because bleh mechanic" is morr of a protest to the hook timer increase to my mind and a case of kicking toys out of the pram.

There is no instance I can think of that slugging is more viable than hooking. Any killer that is strong enough to full team slug, can also full team hook.

The point is still quote strong strong when you look at the dev lifetimes of other games, and in a lot of ways if you look at AFC, A3G and such, while I dont think these things are a problem yet, if a pattern starts yo ontinue, Choy wouldn't be wrong you think DBD is going a similar route.

In that context, his actions make a degree of sense, even if I do disagree with then.

It's true that this game keeps going because of how much variety can exist in a single match. But there needs to be limitations on certain things. For people that don't play survivor, it's easy to say that being slugged or camped to death is fine, as there's no time where the killer is unable to play. That's a problem that is exclusive to the role of survivor.

Anti slug needs to be there, as nobody should be in a match, whilst not being able to do anything for minutes at a time. It's awful design. It's also too strong as a griefing tool. But fixing that requires changing things like pallet saves. Which are a core part of how the gameplay loop works.

Tunneling is somewhat easier. Make it harder to tunnel someone out until a couple of gens are done, or until a few minutes have passed since the match began, and then deactivate that system. That way nobody is forced out of the match straight away, and play variety still exists. Then gives killers better tools to find and down new survivors.

The problem for this game, is that it has been out for a very long time. Players know how to exploit the game thoroughly, and there are many massive design flaws that the game has never addressed, and has simply chosen to sell perks to fix. If BHVR wants to make real changes to the game, they will have to rework all that content that has been sold for years now. I just don't see that happening.

  • Listening to him say that limiting killer agency will kill the game, whilst he's playing slug only, made me cringe somewhat.

  • Do you have any way to fix slugging without breaking the game? I haven't seen a single suggested fix that doesn't have massive issues with it.

Adding basekit UB makes it so you can just die on a pallet, and force the killer to chase another survivor that is nearby waiting to pallet save, then you can just get up for free.

Survivors getting moved to a 2v8 cage after a minute or so is also a bad fix, as it makes slugging survivors for a full minute mainstream gameplay. BHVR should be limiting how much time survivors spend unable to do anything, not encouraging it. One minute is better than four, but it's still a bad solution.

I get that being slugged is not fun. But how do you actually fix it without causing a bunch of other problems at the same time? Like it or not, this is a very difficult thing to fix.

  • I think part of what makes playing survivor fun, is that you are almost never safe from the killer. If tunneling was completely removed, it would result in less interesting gameplay. I think that tunneling a weak link out at four or five gens is problematic in most matches. So that should be looked at. But tunneling should never be removed completely.

There is an easy option for it. Many years old. Just go into settings (in the game) and change the button for "Action" (Pallet throw, vault, etc.) or "Interaction" (Gens, healing, etc.).

With the normal settings both have the same button (R1), but you can easily change one of the two. I recommend R3 for vaulting.

The first thing I did when I started, was to change the control settings. The default layout is awful. I have circle for interactions and R3 for vaulting. It works great.

  • "How do we consider her balanced especially after PTB".

She released bugged as hell, and BHVR gave her a bunch of buffs before going on vacation. I very much doubt they consider her to be fine tuned. They just wanted to ensure she wasn't bad upon release, seeing as they wouldn't be there to buff her.

My guess is that the devs are now looking at her kit and preparing to buff and nerf different things, depending on what is too strong and what is weak within her kit.

Maybe it's not miserable to the huntress at all and that player just likes throwing hatchets? Maybe he's practicing shots because he wants to play more huntress. I'd say if she just stands there and throws hatchets, she's probably chill af. I've done that and a lot of survivors catch on, then they do goofy things like popping in and out of obstacles in a distance I want to practice.

To me it's amazing when a survivor plays along with this and I often end up letting them go. If they are boring and just hide I kill them for the sake of the survivors who at least either play along or do gens.

As a huntress player who does this, there is no malicious intend at all. I'm just throwing hatchets because I enjoy the process of getting those really good shots. I get bloodpoints, you get bloodpoints, maybe we even end up adding each other on steam.

Why always assume the worst in others? To me all of these things just add to the unique nature of Dead by Daylight public matches.

I'm not assuming the worst, I'm assuming that the Huntress player has basic cognitive functionality. When we play games with other people, we have to weigh up how much our enjoyment matters when compared to how we are making other people feel. Some people are prepared to give up a lot, other people are prepared to give up nothing.

My limit lies at people who are only happy when they win. I'm not giving up ground to those people. But I'm prepared to be flexable for everything else. If I'm aware that what I'm doing is making everyone miserable (a fair assumption after fourty minutes of defending a three gen), I wouldn't do it. Simple as.

Yeah, I mean it's so obvious. If you make it as hard as possible for killers to chase, hook, and spread hooks, they simply won't. They want to win, and these days that means slugging and hoping to dodge all the SWFs, meaning solo gets punished the most. If killers had incentives to play in other ways, or SWF was nerfed (for once in this game's lifespan), or matchmaking was competent, this wouldn't be the daily discussion.

You could nuke survivors, and slugging wouldn't go away. Players now know that it is the most effective way of winning. So the strat is here to stay. Even before the hook timer change, and StB was introduced, slugging everyone to death was very effective.

My guess as to why it's become more prevalent, is that most players only seem to only realise how good something is when it's shown to them. A high MMR killer steamer might struggle against strong teams, starts slugging everyone to death, and in the process, give permission to their viewers to do the same. Even though the viewers are likely struggling due to their lower skill, and not the game's balance. Which I'm guessing is why hardcore slugging seems to be everywhere, not just in high level play.

It's going to need to be addressed at some point. But I have no idea how BHVR will do it without messing it up. Adding basekit UB solves one problem (sort of), but enables other problems (things like pallets saves), which can make it impossible for the killer to pick that survivor up.

  • It's not holding the game hostage. It's just a player using the tools that BHVR has given them. It's obviously a miserable experiences for the survivors, and the Huntress is aware of that. But it's part of a gameplay loop that BHVR includes. So it's acceptable.

  • This is a self-inflicted injury. Certain streamers (who I won't name) decided to punish survivors due to BHVR's balancing choices, and have inspired killer players with bad attitudes to do the same. Now BHVR has to come in and fix the mess these players have made.

I don't blame killer players for exploiting this game's poorly thought out gameplay loop. I blame the devs for not having enough forsight to predict that having a gameplay loop, where players are forced to do nothing for minutes at a time, was a bad idea. They have built this game up on a dodgy foundation. Every addition to the game has just made it more complicated to fix.

  • At some point my ping went from 40 to 60, and never came back down again. I still have roughly 20 ping in every other game I play, so I know it's not my connection that's the issue. Maybe BHVR just axed one of the UK servers, I'm not sure. Either way, connection quality is pretty mediocre.

  • Basekit mori is the worst thing BHVR has done to the game? You must be new. Some of us spent months dealing with the gen kick meta, only to have BHVR launch the Skunk Merchant.

  • Having a faster bleed out option, will just make slugging more common. It would go from a griefing tactic, to a legitimate alternate win condition.

Some sort of UB is needed as basekit. The solution needs to be something that punishes the killer. Otherwise it won't work. But that means BHVR needs to figure out problems like survivors dying on pallets. As basekit UB would make that tactic stronger than it already is.

This crap needs fixing, but it's going to be hard to fix without messing other things up in the process.

  • The Onion isn't the problem. It's a lack of knowledge of how she plays, combined with solo queue's inability to communicate with each other.

I feel like BHVR needs to find some way of giving survivors enough information, so that even solo queue players can piece things together and form a strategy mid-match. Basic things like coordinating against a gen patrol Doctor is painful in solo, let alone other killers like Larry.

Gives survivors more info, so killers can have more interesting kits, whilst not creating killers that exclusively stomp solo players.

  • It's an exhaustion perk. The survivor gets to use one per chase. It should benefit them.

  • Imagine if the survivor side was balanced with solo queue in mind. BHVR would have to undo most survivor nerfs that happened over the last four years or so, and still break half the killer roster's kneecaps, just to make it fair lmao.

  • The perk seems like a worse version of OtR now. Kinda pointless for most players. Even Sole Survivor provides more consistent aura blocking.

I imagine you're talking about two completely different groups of people there. The people who find Vecna too complex likely don't go anywhere near fighting games.

Must be the Candy Crush to Dead by Daylight pipeline at work. There's nothing wrong with being super casual, but it is funny that those players jump on forums and complain to the devs that the game is too complex.

  • Some individual fighting game characters have well over a hundred moves each. How is it that people can learn all that, but Vecna having four moves is too much to handle?

After the first Survivor gave up on hook and it became a 3v1, they started slugging the entire game and bled us out while spamming the Ambush roar and t-bagging with their crouch while we all bled out.

And it's not like there wasnt hooks close by either, there are multiple hooks incredibly close by. Im 3-5 meters away from one, the Survivor to the right when down directly next to one as well.

A ham sandwich did that to you? I'm shocked and appalled. I'm sure the Pig community disowns them for their conduct.

  • This feels more like a rage post, than actual feedback. We all have crap matches sometimes. There's no need to request poorly thought out changes as a response. Just rant about it in the general threads like everyone else does.

  • I think the real question is, why do you care? If you don't like the perk, then don't use it. Why spend your time policing how other people have fun? Seems like a complete waste of time to me.

  • I'm all for better tutorials, but I don't think learning the game is the biggest issue facing new players. It's the playerbase that will scare them off. This game has a lot of unstrained mechanics, and the playerbase knows how to use those to make everyone else miserable.

Think of the worst scenarios that existing players already have to deal with. Now imagine new players dealing with that. So far, 2025 is shaping up to be the year of the slug. That's gonna be a fantastic welcome for FNAF fans this summer. Now try to imagine BHVR fixing all of the game's biggest weaknesses in like six months. I think we're screwed lmao.

  • I appreciate that you are trying to find ways to close the gap between high and low level play, but I don't think the devs would do a great job at implementing this. Map tweaks often result in loops getting absolutely butchered. Not to mention how much work it would take to change multiple loops in every map.

Yet no one cares about killers feelings when they play nice and get gen rushed for it 😂

Let me know when survivors can stop the killer from playing the game for four minutes straight, and I'll send you some flowers and a sympathy card.

  • Unbreakable will become basekit soon. It will be self-inflicted misery, but at least he'll have something else to complain about.

  • Unfortunately, a large part of survivor gameplay is not actually playing the game.

Hanging on a hook or bleeding out on the ground is part of how the game is balanced. It's the kind of gameplay design you would accept in a sweaty, ranked gamemode. But it's not healthy in a casual setting. Which most matches are.

There's no way to fix this problem, as BHVR would have to remove hooks completely, and gives survivors lives, where they respawn after being downed. The best thing BHVR can do is find ways to limit how much time survivors spend doing nothing as part of the natural gameplay loop of a match.

Something like a single use unbreakable as basekit would be the easiest fix. But the devs would also have to account for how this would impact matches without excessive slugging. Which would require further changes.

In the right hands Lich certainly is a fearsome opponent, but with the right strategy he seems like a wet towel.
What strategies are you using? What are your responses to each of his four spells? Or have you simply given up on learning it?

To this day I still don't get why people find The Lich hard to play against.

    • Situational KI.
    • Flight that is infinitely worse than Dracula's teleport, and has a fat cooldown.
    • Blocking pallets, only for it to get dropped in their face the next time they get around the loop.
    • FotD is his best tool, but it only comes into play on elevations or when reading a vault.

His entire kit just seems mediocre to me. I just don't get the hype.

Also… Happy Holidays fellow forum user. Hopefully you've had a wonderful day.

Why not match that passion and be the change you want the dbd community to become? Why not? It can happen. They can help you get there.

I wanted to thank @For_The_People for being the first person from the forums that I’ve ever played Dbd with. He is a very sweet person who will give you his time of day in earnest if you need him to. He’s one of the prime examples of politeness in this community. Thank you for being a positive force in the community. 😊😊😊

Lastly I need to thank @solarjin1 . What can I say? When you meet a friend that gets you, you both just know it. Her courage to be funny and humorous are so infectious. • I think playing survivor just gets stale after a while. Survivors have limited mechanics, which almost never get updated. Most of the gameplay diversity comes from counterplay to killers. But there's not that many killers that are as unique as someone like Plague. Dash killers are fun, but everything gets old after a while, no matter how fun it may be.

SWF gives survivor gameplay some longevity, as there's creativity available. But solo queue is very restricted on how you can access that creativity. So it gets old after a while.

If I could have anything, I'd have some new survivor mechanic added to the game. It would open up new possibilities for gameplay, as well as giving more options for perks.

  • I actually skipped some of the questions this time. I started it before going to bed, thinking it would be quick. Ninety questions later, I was finally done lmao.

Ok, so, this is largely related to the common blackbird, or eurasian blackbird. Turdus Merula, if you want the scientific name.

    Take this male:

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/ZGBJZNLAZG32/image.jpeg

You’ll look at this bird and think: That’s a black bird, alright. It has a strikingly not-black beak and a similarly coloured ring around the eyes, but otherwise, it’s a black bird. Good. Makes sense.

But then we look at a female blackbird:

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/IX4XUFITKND9/image.jpeg

Hm. Black isn’t how I would describe this one. So that's already roughly half of all common blackbirds… not actually black.

Now, I don’t know about you, but I’m also able to name at least 3 other birds that are also black within the same range. One of them being a species that we, as DbD players, are very familiar with. Crows.

Take this carrion crow. Other than maybe jackdaws, these are easily the most common ‘true’ crow across western Europe, the same range as the blackbird.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/QWC0P8UAQLW9/image.jpeg

There’s some iridescense going on in the wings and the back, but you don’t need me to tell you that these crows are entirely black birds. Moreso than the male blackbird, too.
Moreover, carrion crows aren’t sexually dimorphic, which means that males and females don’t have any easily indentifiable differences in their appearance.

So… what’s up there? Why did blackbirds come to be called that, when there’s other, blacker birds in the same range?

    Well!

The Old English meaning of ‘bird’ was actually a bit more specialised. Where ‘bird’ means any and all feathered creature now, back then, ‘bird’ only referred to birds of a smaller size.

Larger birds were called ‘fowl’. You can still see this in ‘waterfowl’ and ‘peafowl’, for example. Crows fell under ‘fowl’ as well. I’m not sure what the threshold between bird and fowl was, but I imagine it was somewhere around the wood pigeon.

So then, since our sweet little turd(us) bird was the only commonly known small black bird back then, it could get away with simply being called ‘blackbird’. Effectively just meaning ‘small black bird’.

    Both blackbirds pics are from:

    https://ebird.org/species/eurbla

    Carrion crow pic from:

    https://www.birdguides.com/gallery/birds/corvus-corone/990443/

I always enjoy seeing your bird posts randomly included in threads where people are complaining about dumb game stuff. It's like finding an oasis after spending hours hiking through a desert that smells like farts.

    Keep up the good work.

  • If survivors loved 2v8 so much, why are the killer queues so bad? Even after BHVR turbo buffed the survivor role, the queues are still awful. Seems like killer players like 2v8, and survivors don't. None of the changes BHVR has implemented so far has made any real difference to the queue times.

  • This perk is just too inconsistent on it's own. You have to find two unopened chests, and then still try and get value from it's activation.

To make solid use of the perk, you need to run other perks to bolster it. Plunderer's and Appraisal for example. It just seems like a lot of work, for an effect that almost nobody will benefit from.

  • I tend to avoid the game during events and chapter releases. There's always more lag than there is normally. As soon as I encounter rubberbanding I turn the game off and don't come back for several weeks lmao.

  • "Dev Note: we felt the Exposed time on the perk was too short for how strong the perk can be for trading hook states with another player. We wanted to ensure that the risk / reward factor was more balanced."

The survivor who uses the perk goes from unhooked, straight to the struggle phase. That's the balance. BHVR acts like it's a free escape after. Either the killer isn't proxy camping, in which case the perk is completely pointless, or they are proxy camping and they get a free down.

    I have a better idea:

Remove the scream and the exposed, and just make it so the perk doesn't activate after the killer has hooked three out of the four survivors. That way it works great against killers who hard tunnel baby survivors out and proxy camp the hook, and does nothing against killers that don't. At least that way the perk is actually useful.

If in that Q&A stream they outright refused to address the issue then that is bad. I would need to see the context.

I can't tell you which one it was off the top of my head. It may have been on Reddit. A question was asked in regard to killers body blocking survivors in corners, and the idle crow suggestion was made to alleviate the problem. Someone from BHVR said they are not planning to make any changes, as players can report that behaviour.

I can't remember their exact response word for word. I just remember reading it and wondering why they wouldn't even commit to looking at a fix for later on down the line.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3841751#Comment_3841751

Well there are many reason I want to thank them for looking into the issue, first, being nice goes a long way and second bHVR isn't refusing to address this issue. They have never said anything to this effect. The reason is probably that its a very small issue and it keeps getting sidelined for more important issues. This is has been the case before for many features and likely what's up still.

Please spare me your negative strategy to providing feedback as that isn't something I can use for anything, I get you are frustrated but that wont help much, only showing support for ideas you think would help or features you want does and campaigning for buzz around a subject. It literally cant help anything you telling me that.

As far as BHVR not ignoring the issue, in one of their Q&A livestreams, BHVR was asked to add a fix similar to what you suggested and said no. They said that because it is a reportable offense, there's no need for them to fix the issue. Since then it has been radio silence. I'm all for being polite, but I have no positivity on this issue, seeing as BHVR has washed their hands of the problem.

BHVR telling players to just deal with this nonsense, because we can report the player is such a bad take. Sure, there's plenty of terrible garbage that happens in the game, but apparently it's fine because players can wait the match out, record it, file an in-game report, then go sign up for a BHVR account, fill out the form and upload the footage. BHVR seems to think that this is a much better solution to the problem, when compared to a suggestion like the one you offered up.

    Dear bHVR Team,

Thank you for your dedication to Dead by Daylight and for listening to community feedback. I want to bring attention to a significant issue: the abuse of body-blocking mechanics.

Body-blocking, when used strategically to prevent the Killer, adds depth to counterplay. However, it becomes a frustrating exploit when players intentionally stand in narrow spaces to trap others or when they go AFK in key pathways. This can disrupt the game for survivors, turning an otherwise great gaming experience into a source of annoyance.

While the current solution of banning players who abuse this mechanic addresses extreme cases, it isn't a sustainable fix. The root of the issue is in the design that allows this behavior to occur. Legitimate body-blocking should remain part of the game, but we need safeguards to prevent it from being abused or unintentionally ruining matches. To address the issue and make the current restrictions better I recommend this:

    1. if players hit boxes touch for 5 sec and not moving, they lose collision between each other for 5 seconds.
    2. Survivor players have a tinyier collision hit box but only for survivors, so they may slip by each other easier.

Thank you for taking the time to address this growing concern. I hope it provides some ideas for a more permanent fix or helps get this up the priority line, the status quo cant go on for much longer, I need to see this annoying part the game die. PLEASE

I agree that this needs fixing, but I'm not sure why you are thanking BHVR for taking the time to address this issue. This complaint has been made for years at this point. Last time I checked, their advice was to just report the player. They have said nothing else on the matter, so it's safe to assume that they have no plans to fix it, as they think that players will do the work for them, by reporting the offender and sending them video proof.

I do find it obnoxious that BHVR refuses to implement a fix for this, purely because if you provide video evidence, BHVR will ban the player. My issues with this approach is that it forces players to deal with gameplay abuse instead of stopping it from happening in the first place, and if you can't record footage then your report is absolutely worthless.

  • I've always felt it would be natural for UB to have a built in Soul Guard effect. It can only be used once per match, so it's already heavily restricted. Although it's already a strong perk. So any buffs would cause uproar.

  • I've only seen a few people on here say that crouch tech is fine, and they've been from new accounts, so I don't take what they say seriously.

The devs are aware of the issue. But you have to realize that many things that seem simple, take years for BHVR to fix. If it was an easy change for the devs it would have been done by now. It took years for Blight's HT to be removed, and survivor audio levels have been botched since launch.

It's fair to critique BHVR for struggling to fix these issues, but it's not the fault of survivors or the devs not acknowledging it that's the problem. Clearly they just don't know how to fix it.

  • I bought a Nintendo Switch and a copy of Animal Crossing for my elderly mother, and she's having a great time. Computer games are no different from films or books.

I'd rather be the person having fun, rather than being the person sat there cringing at others. The former is having a good time, and the latter is just announcing their own insecurities to anyone that walks by.

  • You should make a feedback thread, so the devs actually read it.

Also, we've been asking for this for years. My guess is that for whatever reason it's not an easy change. Otherwise it would have been done a long time ago.

  • I honestly haven't had a full blown slugging match in a very long time. Early game tunneling? Sure. But no slugging.

  • I'm not against BHVR nerfing survivor perks, but they need to keep improving solo queue. Otherwise the weakest role in the game just gets worse.
