I think Coup De Grace is very cleverly designed. It’ll teach players that lunge way too much (and miss a lot, or are simply far too lucky) to start being way more conservative with that base ability.
It’ll make players properly think about when to lunge, and Coup De Grace gives the added reward of when a lunge is used in an appropriate circumstance, the pay off should be that a hit is guaranteed, like when a survivor attempts a DH for distance then vault.

We’ve got to remember that asymmetrical multiplayer is still a small space, and what BHVR is doing is still unique (all things considered).
DBD is still an ongoing experiment and refinement process for them because there is no “how to make the best asymmetrical multiplayer horror game” manual.
It’s why we see BIG mistakes sometimes in this game, but also why we need to be more forgiving sometimes. They’re still working hard to perfect DBD, and figuring out how to do so. This is probably also why we don’t have an alternative game mode yet.

The killers themselves are supposed to act as different game modes. Switching up tactics and such.
Even certain perks require a completely different tactical approach

I’m on PS5. I’d wait forever without cross play otherwise.

You will be restarting everything unfortunately.
Any particular reason you’re not upgrading to Series X/S?
All your progress and DLC will transfer if you do.

Every killer released has been easy to use. Some definitely have higher skill caps, but there isn't a single killer in this game that I would consider to be not noob-friendly or difficult to pick up.
Also why would you want a killer to become even MORE simple? You do that and the killer becomes very stale very fast. I want to actually play a killer that I don't learn everything about in the first hour of playing them.
I think the OP is meaning simple/uncomplicated killers, like the way Billy, Trapper, and Bubba are classes as easy.

So you thank BHVR that they have/had one of the worst optimized games in gaming history for over 4 years and they just waited out to let it getting fixed by the hardware of next gen consoles?? This is just laughable. In conclusion this means they did actually no improvements regarding the code and engine. I still can remind when they did that big optimization announcement years ago, it was just empty promises.
So because you’re unhappy, you’re unhappy that I’m happy about the game?!

I’ve only looked at the loadout screens but the graphics are outstanding.
@TheClownIsKing can probably tell you more as I think he’s played some matches on it.
It’s absolutely fantastic.
The performance.
The framerate.
The crispness of the graphics.
Everything is HEAPS better.

It’s there and I already upgraded, but I was wondering if you could switch between PS4 and PS5 (which you can, I checked it out for myself).
Both versions have installed and holy crap the PS5 version looks amazing. Shame about the trophies being reset though.
It’s just heavenly isn’t it.
The performance makes a MASSIVE difference when playing killer. Survivor 360’s are a cake walk to hit now. No more sudden disorientation from frame dips during a chase.

Random question about DBD on PS5. Is it a completely separate trophy list for PS5 or do all your trophies carry over from PS4?
separate trophies

I have to earn them in the first place.
Trophies don’t carry from a PS4 version to a PS5 version. They’re seen as two separate games. This was no different to when there were PS3 & PS4 versions of an identical game.

I've seen it happen with Obsessions when Rancor is used. I will never understand what makes getting mori'd worse than dying on hook, its just a different death animation.
Especially that late in the game and losing all those BP.
I’ve had people DC in the exit gate just because they weren’t close enough to immediately exit upon being downed while t-bagging, and I’m able to actually pick them up instead.
Like why?
That late in the game why incur a DC penalty?

I just got mine and when I inserted the disc for DBD, it gave me a “copy” button instead of download. Does this mean I’ll be able to switch between the PS4 and PS5 versions of DBD?
Also there is a free PS5 upgrade option for me even though I have the disc and I am really excited, especially if I can switch between PS4 and PS5 versions at will.
Has it finished installing?
If so, either scroll down from the DBD icon fro the main PS5 hub page, or if it’s not there, find DBD in your game library and push cross.
There should be a box over on the right. It’ll either offer a free PS5 upgrade or it will advertise some DLC or add on. If the free PS5 upgrade option isnt there, perhaps it isn’t offered for the disc version for some strange reason?

Sorry, but I couldn't disagree more. I've had the least fun in this game with past few DLCs. Killers get it all with uncounterable abilities with overpowered perks and survivors get nothing to change the meta. Absolutely nothing, but a few dead zones and bland perks is what they do get.
This is caused by devs being afraid of killers because selling the killer DLC is what is important to them. Survivors buy cosmetics so they can use the same perks every game. Every survivor uses dead hard, DS, BT, etc. Killer gets a game changing undying perk which is now used every game, tinkerer was overbuffed into full time meta. Where is the survivor perk being buffed into meta? It don't exist.
So if you are strictly a killer main, then you are very happy right now. But if you play both sides or strictly survivor, I have no idea how you can possibly be excited.
I play both sides, and well... I genuinely am happy. I particularly like Cheryl’s and Felix’s perks.

I would research the killers, their powers and killer and survivor perks. See which appeal to you the most.
Unless you love Silent Hill (I do!) I think the Stranger Things bundle is the best value. For $10 more than SE you get 4 more killers and 5 more survivors.
The SH one costs $20 more and only gets you 3 more killers and 3 more survivors (plus 2 really cool skins, but that's up to personal opinion). However I think Pyramid Head is much better and more fun than Demogorgon and the Legion. If I was just getting into DBD I would get this simply because I love SH, but I think the ST bundle is technically the best value of the three.
This, but also consider best value for money too. It’s a shame you’re only considering this now because some base editions, and all DLC (except Blight) were half price on PS Store over Halloween.
Either way, once you get PS5, you can upgrade for free, and it will recognise and carry over anything else you’ve paid for for the PS4 version.

Ready to Play has always been a glorified "wait longer" screen.
Only a few games actually let you go anywhere while it's still dl'ing.
Yeah, but a lot of recent forum posts and twitter rants have suggested many aren’t aware of this, and think something went wrong when they load up and see everything locked out except the tutorial and help text.
Its why I did this “don’t panic” post.

I am a rank 1 Doc.
If i play against Doc it usually takes 3-4 gens before he even shocks me for the first time. The trick is A: Stay out of his terror radius and B: Have a feeling for timing and when he is about to shock in a moment just go into a locker.
Doc has "impossible skill checks" builds, but i have zero issues hitting his skill checks and i know from my own matches that other more experienced survivors also don't have the slightest problems with that.
When the skill checks are too much for you just bring him to get you into madness 3 so you can snap out of it. This takes nothing but a few seconds and is very easy to do...
I also main Doc, so I know how to err on the side of caution when playing survivor.
Wherever possible, if I know he’s coming, or hear the TR, and KNOW it’s been some time since he last used Blast, you bet your ass I’m getting in a locker.

Question, how fast does if take to fully download? O.o
Well that’s always going to vary from person to person isn’t it.
For me everything took longer than usual, but that’s to be expected in a week where so many millions of people around the world are throttling networks with their new PS5s, new Xbox’s, and updating their Apple Macs.
DBD for me took around 100minutes. Maybe close to 2 hours.

So the very second preorders went live, I went on a PS5 spending spree.

That's good to know! I remember playing that game on PS3, I hope the remake is faithful to the original.
I have a question, did your characters aquired with Iridescent Shards carry over from the PS4 to PS5?
I can’t answer that because I’ve never purchased a character with shards.
But all my cosmetics purchased with Shards, and any perks unlocked with Shards in the Shrine carried over, so I would presume any characters purchased by shards carry over too.

Unfortunately I didn't get my PS5 delivered today, so I've got a couple of questions!
- did you transfer DbD PS4 on an external HDD to a PS5 or did you download it on the PS5 store + dlc?
- Did your rift progress transfer over?
- did your builds for survivor and killer also transfer or did you have to make your builds again?
- did your rank and devotion transfer safely?
Thanks! Crossing my fingers Amazon delivers it Friday for me.
- i simply signed into my PSN, looked at my game library, clicked on the DBD icon, and when it expanded, off to the right was a box asking if I wanted my free upgrade to PS5 edition. Oddly for some strange reason it first downloaded the PS4 version, then downloaded the PS5 version, and overwritten it.
- All of my progress transferred over. Rift, shards, bp, auric cells, cosmetics, perks (and their respective tiers on their respective characters), add ons, offerings, Everything except Freddy and Quentin, but I can still use/get Badham offerings, and have all their perks. Trophies do not carry over because PS5 seems the PS5 version of DBD as an entirely separate game. It was funny first loading the game and immediately being awarded the P1, P2, P3, and P3 50 trophies.
- Loadouts and cosmetics were all a clean slate. So I had to re-equip all of my preferred loadouts and cosmetics.
- Rank and devotion all carried over.
- Good luck. Hope your console arrives for you soon.

This is from the very top of the Road to 60fps dev update from March 2019.
“When we first released Dead by Daylight back in 2016, we targeted 30 FPS on our minimum spec. Up until recently, we optimized the game in bursts; for the console launch and before releasing a new Killer. We are now ready to set a new performance target: Dead by daylight will run at 60 FPS on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and minimum spec PCs.”
The article is here:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/49456/optimization-status-update-road-to-60fps
Ok, I stand corrected, and apologise. Perhaps, try as they might, they simply didn’t have the time, resources, and capacity to both prepare for next gen, and implement such optimisation for current gen, or it’s simply not possible.
Who knows, now that PS5 and Series X/S versions are finally released, they might revisit optimisation for PS4 and XBONE, because there is bound to still be a significant portion of the DBD player base using those consoles for the next 12 to 24 months.

Amazing to hear that it runs well on PS5 but I can't help but feel annoyed about it.
Do I seriously need to buy a 500 dollar system just to enjoy my favorite game on a decent frame rate? :/
I probably personally couldn’t have justified it if there were absolutely no launch titles I was interested in.
But fortunately I already feel I’ve gotten my monies worth, and it’s only been less than 48 hours. Astro’s Playroom and the way it demonstrates all of the new controller features is a joyful experience. Bugsnax is charming and engrossing. Both Spider-Man games are a feast for the eyes. PS5 DBD, and just how excellent it performs is just icing on the cake.
The absolute standout though is the Demon’s Souls remake. It’s absolutely astonishing and extraordinary. The extreme level of detail, fidelity, and lighting effects (when on cinematic mode) is breathtaking. It’s absolutely beautiful to look at.

Hmm sorry, I didn’t have this problem at all. If restoring licenses didn’t help, I’m not sure what’s wrong.
Try highlighting the game icon in your main game hub, pushing “options” on your controller, and check that it’s absolutely definitely the PS5 version and not the PS4 version.

So I'm planning on getting the PS5 for Christmas and I can't download any of my data on the PS4 to the cloud. Does that mean that I won't have my DLC'S that I purchased, or if I keep my DLC's, but all my progress is gone. Or alternatively, I keep all of my stuff and progress because I am only transferring my account to the PS5. Someone please awnser this question. I would appreciate it, thanks.
It seems that data transfer isn’t needed from PS4 to PS5, and that it’s all saved in BHVR’s servers.
All my progress, DLC, and cosmetics were all automatically on PS5. But as it’s treated as an entirely new game, it doesn’t transfer trophy progress.
Note though that currently Quentin and Freddy are missing, which I think is probably to do with problems with the licensing.

"Our goal is simple: improve FPS performance on all platforms. We will be doing a new pass of optimization next spring (patch tbc) and additional passes with upcoming patches after."
The thing is though, for a time, they did. There WAS significantly improved performance on PS4. And although it has dipped up n down since then, the game still runs much better than it ever has on PS4, except for that HUGE debacle with the mid chapter patch.
So they haven’t lied.

But that is exactly why the Solo Que is so horrific right now. The social contract between Survivors is eroding fast. It means, exactly due to this attitude of walking away at any time for any reason that it is hard as heck to get anyone reliable unless you SWF. Saying it is just a game, is not an excuse. Either we show up to play, or we don't. I've already said, suicide on the hook is better than a disconnect and that it meets the minimum requirement. But really, is that all we are shooting for these days, the minimum?
I'm just saying, we reap what we have sown. I think anyone complaining about ANY Killer who walks out of games, is a hypocrite and has no legs to stand on. We don't know if the Killers are too powerful or not, because the games are tilted by people who bail. Of course those games will end up losses. Do you see my point? Pretty much I think anyone who embraces this attitude of, "eh... I'm leaving" has pretty much given up any real right to complain about anything else.
Well... if it’s any consolation, I’m rarely upset at the killer.
I usually resort to this because of what another survivor did.
- did an unsafe hook rescue on me without BT. If the killer ignores the unhooker and chases me instead, I give up. There’s no point in a chase I’m not going to win, and I’m not going to mash struggle just so this exact same scenario happens again, most likely with the exact same rescuer.
- Survivors keep kiting the killer onto me more than once. ESPECIALLY if I’m in a gen I’ve nearly completed.
- If the killer is camping but nobody is on gens.
- If the killer ISN’T camping (and I’m running Kindred) and yet I STILL go to struggle state. I’m not mashing that button.
- Actually troll behaviour like body blocking teammates in corners and crevices.
I’m just not going to put up with it, and I’m not going to torture myself by staying in games where this occurs. I’m gonna find the killer and suicide on hook.
-
@[Deleted User] said:
I think he should be similar to that of the Jockey from L4D2, in that you have to find a teammate to help get him off within a certain amount of time or else Viktor will put you in the Dying State.
That’s probably not a healthy solution. Victor essentially becomes an insta down killer if it’s two survivors left but one is on hook or slugged.
-
@coppersly said:
I feel like a lot of the limitations you put on him were to encourage people to get him off as soon as possible through any means, but it seems like the opposite is occurring where people want to take him for the entire game and leave with him.
So my question is what are your reactions to this? I can't think of very many games where something along the lines of "players want to kidnapp the baby sized twin killer" is normal.
Well... we have Plague...
They were expecting Broken, and ridiculously easy tracking was going to be “scary” to survivors.
We all know how that went...
-
Good grief...
Were not being conscripted into infantry for world war three!!!
It’s just a video game!!
If I’ve had a string of rough matches because I’m sick to death of how awful the other survivors are, and something else happens in the current match that pushes my patience over the line, then I’m suiciding on the hook. The other 3 just have to re-evaluate their approach to the match.
I turn on my console and a game for ENTERTAINMENT. I’m not sticking around if it’s miserable match after miserable match.

as long as they're getting him back, I don't play as Freddy too often but I don't like the idea of loosing content that I already own on a technicality.
That’s the thing though.
No one owns it.
Anyone that bought the DLC purchased a limited license.
And those limitations could be just about anything, as set by the legal rights owner of the intellectual property.

@Ryan489x said:
Freddy not being in the PS5 version other then a license issue. makes no sense at all. As someone who has all the DLC on PS4 and PC. It should not be an issue with something I already own. I'm not demanding it change and it may never. However my argument is this. If the license expired the following should not happen.
- I should never have to face Freddy on PS5 period
- Badham preschool should never be a map on PS5
- I should never play with a Quinten on PS5.
The idea that the license expired so I can't play as Freddy or Quinten on PS5 but playing on his themed map and against him is still allowed thanks to cross platform play? He's technically still in the game. so as person who already owns him I should have access to him. I can understand new players not being able to use him but since it's the same account I should be able too.
the same goes for anyone on switch
By all means, write a letter and send it to the Wes Craven Estate.
