Honestly the best advice I could give you is to run OoO for 10-20 matches and do nothing but getting chased
Not everyone can be a godlooper, but to be afraid of getting chased when all the resources are available means that the last thing you should do is avoiding chases.
This game is first and formost a cat and mouse chase game. Stealth has it's place but not at the start of the match when survivors are at their strongest.
Honestly forget about stealth at the start, if you aren't on a gen/totem, running to said gen or totem or running to the strongest tile to bait the killer into a long chase you are hurting your team.
Stealth is later when the resources are starting to run low and/or you're on deathhook
I want to try and get to the centralised gens before the other idiots cause a 3 gen getting too eager with gens on one side of the map. But I can get there if I approach recklessly can I?

You almost always start at the opposite of the map, unless the killers spawns in them iddle.
If he does there is a good chance he doesn't know which direction to go first. There is a 50/50 chance he will be at you pretty fast. In all other cases (90% of matches) he will have to cross the map to reach you. A good killer will still do that as fast as he can to get into his first chase. However, this is plenty of time to oriantate yourself and go onto your first gen.
Your bearings? You mean chest or??
The first thing you do is gens and nothing else.
I CANT DO GENS IF IM ALREADY SPOTTED WITHIN 10 SECONDS OF THE MATCH STARTING!!
What are people not understanding about this damn post?!?!
Do people read?!?!

If this is something that really annoys you, try running Premonition and not running at the start of the match. If the killer is within your premonition range, you'll know where they're coming from and have a good idea of where to hide. If the killer is outside of your premonition range, then you'll know that you are safe for good moment.
How many times do I need to put the word “walk” in my post before others will stop saying “try not running”?!

Yeah, please do that. Do nothing for 1-2 minutes and wait until somebody gets chased / go down. That’s gonna be of great benefit for the game.
You will make sure you already lost the match upon starting but hey.
At least you will not get found early.
Jesus.
I never said it did that either!!
Why are so many people on this forum he’ll bent on antagonising others?!
It’s what’s driving me mental about this “community”: there is no actual community.

You should wait for "early game collapse" reworking DBD's early game then. That might change the pacing of matches so that you have more time to get ready insted of instantly rushing gens and same for killer.
I’m not rushing gens. I never said I was doing that. I’m literally taking a few steps upon starting and I’m already spotted.

Yeah but they are a one and done kind of deal. During the trapper tome i saw unnerving presence once and a while. After that almost never again.
Putting perks in daillies too would make it more interresting i feel. Especially seeing how if you don't want to you can just reroll them

Not really the type of challenges I was explaining. These types of daily challenges would give you a chance to try some other perks as well as giving you bloodpoints. In the archives you have to do certain things with the perk equipped but these daily challenges all you have to do equip the perk and I'm pretty sure situations will occur and you'll be able to use the perk and have a feel for the perk before adding it to your perk build
That's what I was trying to explain
Fair points.

I’m just gonna start stockpiling Vigo’s Shroud and use them as often as possible from now on.

Then take 10 steps backwards 4head.
Fun aside haha, sometimes it'll be like that. Do you go for gens right after spawn? I get that sometimes too but usually like that "kiler comes, hits someone then chases me". So they basically let that now injured Survivor run away to chase me instead.
When I am sick of that I start uber stealthy until I see someone else gets hit and then I start playing agressive. Especially when I use Deliverance, which basically never happens.
I’m always attempting to be stealthy as the match starts. Not extreme “urban everywhere” stealth, but I’m not foolish enough to suddenly start running anywhere, or foolish enough to jump on the first gen I spawn near. Heck, I’m the kind of survivor that makes an effort to not disturb crows.
No embellishments here. I mean quite literally I spawn in, match starts, I start walking, repeat WALKING and assessing my bearings, I might have traveled the distance of HALF a tile, I hear the TR, I duck and spin my camera to see where the killer is coming from to know where I should hide, but it’s too late. I’m already spotted and they’re coming straight for me. It’s happened 5 times in the past 2 hours.

Unless the killer is running whispers, it is unlikely they would even attempt to find you so close to them, unless they've spotted you or your scratch marks.
I rarely take the time to search for survivors in areas that are close to where I've spawned, I usually beeline towards the farthest gens first. There is no reason for the killer to check right next to them and waste time, especially considering the chances of a survivor spawning so close to them are small. The farther away you are from the killer, the more likely they will check the area more thoroughly.
Really you just need to learn how to hide better, or learn how to run the killer better when you get into a chase.
The ol’ “the OP must be lying” rhetoric.
Bye. I’m not responding to you anymore.

@ZaKzan said:
stop running and leaving scratch marks, take advantage of the environment, hide.
I'm tired of the survivors finishing a gen and getting another one 25% done by the time I get to them from the other side of the map because maps are so large.
That is NOT what I’m doing at all.
I’m literally just starting to walk, and within 5 to 10 seconds hear the TR before I’ve even got my bearings and get spotted before I even know where the killer is coming from and before I can stealthily skink away.
-
@goatslinger said:
30 seconds is a long time in DBD land. You can't really expect the killer to wait for you to find a hiding spot before they start looking around right? Just seems like you have had a couple games of bad luck. Not really sure this is something to call crap or rant about.
No not a couple. It’s starting to become so frequent that it’s a couple every HOUR.
It’s driving me mental. I’m not implying it’s the killers fault. But the spawn algorithm needs to be changed.

I had to stop running that build. Too much information on smaller maps. It literally handicaps me, especially WoO and Bond. Big respect for sticking with it.

I can be anywhere in Midwich and almost always see everything I need everywhere.
Sometimes i’ll take out Open Handed and use Buckle Up for even more info.

I mainly play survivor, but I do play killer on occasion when I'm bored. I sit in green ranks as killer, and I've got a horrible habit of swinging Early and missing the survivors. Did anyone else struggle with this? I'm usually stressed about letting a chase drag on too long, so I'll lunge to hit them and miss completely, or they'll spin me and I'll miss my hit. Any tips on how to stop this?
I know, it's ez, just stop swinging Early 4head, but something in my brain tells me I have to hit them fast or else they'll get away and the gens will all pop magically and they'll think I'm an idiot. How do you guys judge whether or not to swing? Do you wait until you're right up on them? What do you do when a survivor 360s you? I always swing and usuuually miss. The moments I don't miss are what makes me swing in the other instances.
It’s best to avoid lunging except when you’re certain a survivor is going for a vault, or attempting to trade hits at a pallet.
A lunge has a smaller hit box, meaning it’s easier for a survivor to dodge. Best to patiently wait that extra second or two to close enough distance to do a basic swing, as that has a much larger hit box that’s almost impossible for a survivor to avoid.

It doesn't make sense. It only rewards the last person for failure. I get that the argument for the hatch is that you can be screwed by bad teammates. I get it. ######### teammates exist and I get them all the time when I play survivor. But if not a single gen was completed then none of the survivors deserves to escape. Nobody got anything done so why reward them? Even with bad teammates you should be able to at least finish one generator.
That’s not a very fair statement. As a solo survivor I’ve found myself as the last one left alive being the victim of dumb dumb teammates.
I’m running around doing “damage control”: unhooking, healing slugs, taking a protection hit to try and stop a killer tunnelling someone to death, trying to shake the killer off my damn butt, trying to get rid of damn Ruin so our gens stop damn regressing every time the killer chases us off when Tinkerer procs, and before I know it everyone is dead, no gens are done, and I’m the only one left despite working my damn butt off with nothing to show for it. At least there’s a 50/50 chance I might get the Hatch so that those dumb teammates haven’t completely condemned me to total Hell.

The devs can’t do anything about this because it has nothing to do with them. As far as the console is concerned it’s an entirely separate game. This was no different when there were cross gen games on PS3 and PS4. The Last of Us & Shadow of The Colossus come to mind.

This concept works in theory but since scouting out a location in dbd uses a lot of time. Chases can occur in zones you have ot seen so your decissions are now based off of coin flips which is the opposite of skill. You can make a read on how someones playing you can't anticipate what pallets are in play without having been in that location.
Also for the flak cod series gets dbd as a game has no business being considered more skill intensive. The more unknown variables you have the less skill intensive and competitive your game is. (activisions its parent company is indeed morally bankrupt but thats a different discussion).
Most esport games have little to no rng. If it does have rng its odds are clear and a pallet being spawned randomly can never justify a skill intensive argumemt.
Adaptability and improvisation are skills.
The whole theme of survivor in dbd is to feel like how it’s supposed to feel in a horror film: uncertainty, not knowing your resources, making split second gambles.

I just think that sabo is,like going for flashlights saves, wasted time that you could have spent on gens.
And whenever i try to sabo, the killer just goes for the other 20 hooks that are near :(
It can completely stop a killers momentum if the survivor being rescued is on death hook, usually from being tunnelled to death.
Sabo has a place in the game, just needs to be intelligently assessed whether it’s the right thing to do, and what are the chances of success depending on where I’m personally positioned at the time of the down.
-
But getting back on topic, yes WoO is seriously underrated. It’s more than just a beginner perk. As a solo player it’s a life saver being able to stop myself from accidentally running into a dead zone during a chase because another survivor used up all the pallets there earlier.
-
I (now) often run Bond, Open Handed, Visionary, and WoO. It gives me all the information I need to be always helpful, and know a lot about what is happening, and where to actually go.
Visionary in particular is an absolute life saver on Midwich, Lery’s, or Hawkins, because sometimes when it’s down to the last 3 or 4 gens they can be an absolute pain to find.

I see so many posts mentioning everyone running specific perks. What would happen if the game disabled a perk if say more than two survivors had it? Or force a killer to change out perks every X number of matches. Maybe have exceptions for the characters unique special abilities. Could solve the "everyone runs A+B" which makes the matches predictable and repetitive.
I don’t think disabling perks would be healthy.
I think what is being done in the rift is already healthy enough. It encourages players to use specific perks in specific challenges. There’s always the chance a player might see a benefit to a perk they previously dismissed.
Personally, I’ve always been anti meta. I love to experiment with perk builds and change things up frequently. It’s helped me learn a LOT of skills I probably wouldn’t have otherwise learned.

Yes,sabo is extremely garbage right now and not worth your time.
But i think it's fair that you need a coordinated effort in order to make it work.
The killer worked for his down so you should too for the rescue
This ^
A killer being denied hooks too easily and too frequently will just have the player base leave in droves.
That said though, Sabo is not totally unviable. I play solo and even solo I’ve managed to help team mates wiggle free by running both a tool box and Saboteur (purely for the hook aura reading. I’ll still use a tool box for the sabotage). When paying attention to the killer it’s easy to determine which hook they’ll initially go for, and then the subsequent hook they’ll try to instead go to after Sabotaging the first hook.

Spine Chill is just immensely popular still. Also I’ve noticed since jumping to PS5 that there are a lot of new players. Maybe new gen consoles, and recent discounts on DBD have reinvigorated interest. So with that in mind, most new players are only going to have access to 3 teachables and the generic pool of perks.
-
They mean this isn’t Call of Duty. This isn’t the kind of game where it’s supposed to be your map knowledge that helps you succeed. It’s supposed to be your ability to improvise, adapt, and utilise the “cards that are dealt to you”

No. Unpredictability is what helps keep this game in line with the “horror” theme when it stops being scary to players. It keeps it tense and uncertain never being 100% sure where everything is.

For survivor I love Red Herring, because its just funny to watch a Freddy teleport to your gen and get nothing.
For killer it would be Bitter MurMur because some survivors go to like a structure near the gen to hide and its a little funny to watch them panic especially when i play wraith.
Bitter Murmur is still an incredibly useful perk, and it surprises me that it gets forgotten about by so many killers.
Cruel Limits isn’t considered a particularly great perk, but depending on the map, Bitter Murmur + Cruel Limits can work beautifully together.

Title says it all really, I tend to avoid most of the streamers/YouTubers playing this game because I feel like they encourage toxicity sometimes (not all of them I know, but the ones I have seen do and that creates a snowball for smaller channels). I've started playing for videos and I just wanna chill, talk while playing, make jokes (example; made a whole video about being pig selling MLM products)
But, what do you guys like seeing? Is there something fun about competitive players who stream?
There are some very wholesome streamers. I recently discovered Granny and she’s very entertaining.
When I watch streams I usually look for something new to learn (despite feeling incredibly well versed in this game, I like to stay open minded that I cannot possibly know everything).
Sometimes I consider streaming but I don’t like talking, and don’t consider myself entertaining enough to be stream worthy. But I do see some streamers (some even fog whisperers) and I shake my head thinking “why on earth did you do that?!”. Or particularly when they use Clown and I think “Wrong. Wrong. Also wrong. Good god how do so many play Clown wrong?!”
Lol. I know that sounds arrogant, but I just see it so often.

So I started my solo career. I have been hard stuck at rank 6 but all I face are red rank killers and my fellow survivors also tend to be red ranks.
My question, how often do you all survive? I went from probably a 70% survival rate as a swfmate to maybe 15% as a solo.
I noticed as solo, I don't even play to survive anymore, I play to hopefully pip.
So please tell me friends are you surviving often? And if so, how?
This is pretty normal. Survival rate is meant to low.
I tend to make sure my loadout is built around helping my team, but also how I can help myself, especially where information is concerned.

or is there any other PS5 exclusive feature that lets you see who the killer is if their profile is public?

Not even on a killer like Blight. Nicely done devs, it has made me enjoy the game much more after such a long break 😺
I’m loving it on PS5.
I already felt competent as survivor, and good as killer on PS4. But now without the performance dips I feel like my skill has improved ten fold. I.e. I knew performance dips were handicapping me on PS4, but I didn’t realise just how MUCH it was handicapping me until playing this game on PS5.
It’s such a joy to play this game now. No more sudden disorientation.

I've seen people getting keys in the ptb using Elodies perk when the killer had hoarder. Also plunder's instinct.
Hoarder would still be countering Pluderer’s increased rarity feature.
Players still getting keys when both Hoarder & Appraisal are in the match are just lucky because the odds of finding a key would be the same as normal when neither Hoarder or Appraisal is being used.

#########? Only new players "miss lunges way too much", five tokens per game isn't gonna teach nobody anything.
What is probably going to happen is forget that you have that token and simply waste it, and then you switch to a better perk on the next match.
“Only new players miss lunges way too much"
No, only bad survivors get regularly hit by lunges. It’s easy for survivors to dodge lunges if a killer is just using a lunge most of the time when instead they should be doing just a basic swing.
-
@James4125 said:
Hoarder is horrible. Far from helping the killer it straight up benefits every survivor in the match instead. How is giving them more med kits keys and toolbox's supposed to help the killer exactly?
It REDUCES the rarity of items. Survivors will not be able to obtain keys. Or keys will be extremely rare in chests when running Hoarder.
-
I think all of the perks are fantastic ideas concepts, with the only one being “we’ll see how it goes” is Coup De Grace. It’s the one perk The Devs are clearly being extra cautious with.
Hoarder is going to be WAY more useful than what is currently realised. A 48m range means that there will be many instances that the killers coverage is pretty much half the map. A notification is given not just when chests are interacted with but also when any item (within range) is picked up. This is a big deal when a lot of survivors think it’s clever to hide a key, then go back for it once they’ve found the hatch. And the perk will REDUCE the odds of survivors finding a key, and will counter the rarity odds increase that Plunderers gives.
I just see this perk giving way more useful information than what players expect.

I do like the fact that this Perk exists though.
After over 4 years, there's finally a Perk that actually does stuff with lunges.
So i'm hoping the devs like what they did and try some more.
I put my bets down that the devs already have buffs in mind if necessary, but like the stranger things chapter they’re being super conservative and want to watch the performance of Coup De Grace first.
