I ran Lightborn for a bit, because I was convinced the game was going to turn into flashbang hell, but didn't really get any value out of it - the most I got was for a match where survivors brought several flashlights and wanted to do the typical flashlight things. Flashbangs are way easier to avoid than I thought they would be and I've been able to sidestep them nineteen times out of twenty, and with Blast Mine, I'd be getting stunned anyway.
That said, I've always had a soft spot for Lightborn, because if you can confuse a survivor into thinking you don't have it, you can get an endless stream of free hits off them, and it is very effective against teams that are addicted to flashlight plays. (And they get so angry when they see you have it - can't even count the number of times I've been called cringe and trash in endgame chat. You'd think they'd be happy I brought a perk I didn't explicitly need instead of something useful, right?)
True you still encounter the stun, but the aura detection lasts longer than the stun itself. I explained earlier that I had a match where a mine had been set on a generator that I kicked, and while I did incur the stun, I was able to see the aura of where that person was hiding. They could have been halfway across the map and I still would have seen exactly where they were. It's pretty effective now that it applies to more than just flashlights!

Distortion counters it as well as Sole Survivor when it's at max. Off the Record counters it. Heck even getting into a locker or ducking behind a gen can counter it.
^This. Distortion is definitely an underutilized perk. It can hide your aura from the killer three times in a match.

I never thought about this.
It's kinda weird that I've pretty much run a flashlight every single game this weekend and flashbangs, yet I've not seen 1 Lightborn lol
I was playing a match as killer and I went to kick the generator. I didn't get blinded, and the person that set the blast mine was hiding around the corner. Thanks to Lightborn I knew exactly where they were and made a beeline for them. They probably thought I was hacking! LOL
-
I saw that same video, and holding W definitely works! BHVR designed this game so that you can loop the Killer, but with the speed boost you get from being injured on top of other perks that can hide you from the killer, it just makes sense to just keep running forward. It might be boring gameplay, but until they start getting creative with killers that don't rely on range attacks, holding W will be the new meta.
-
Honestly, we're going to have to stop treating this game like it was a competitive e-sport. It's certainly not our fault for looking at it like that considering that BHVR put in ranks and a pipping system. This is a casual game at its core, and the fact that I too find myself getting blinded with rage over stupid actions in a video game is ridiculous.
Naturally everyone wants a fun experience, but other people can definitely ruin that, which is why I still hold out hope for a mode with bots. Not only would it be a great way to blow off steam after an abysmal online match, but DBD mobile has had it since almost day one, and it's inexcusable that the main game still doesn't.
-

I mean, why is this rank 4 allowed to be in a match with low rank players only because he is in a party with 2 guys who have full perks. Isn't it supposed to be average mathematically? No?
And how are you supposed to have fun/enjoy and learn in such games when it literally becomes impossible to hook or kill anyone completely.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/G505KP9TPUUC/png.png
Yes, I did a pip barely during this match. But then acting like "haha, ez noob killer" when I have only ONE perk vs a team that has tier 3 perks, half of which are meta, and ranks better than mine when I belong to 20-16 ranks queue. When i bought the game and some DLC and this is the end result.
BHVR did implement a proper training mode which is nice, however it needs to be updated to allow you to use any killer you own. As it is right now you can only use Trapper, which sucks. I would love to be able to practice the mechanics of a new killer before hopping in to a sweaty online match. It's hard to learn and grow when you're getting stomped repeatedly.

https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/261047/is-playing-as-nemesis-functional-yet
The ones I’ve seen do well. Like most killers he is built for red ranks so you should easily get a 4K with zero skill or practice if you’re purple rank or above.
I have to disagree. Now to be fair I've only played one match with him so I'm not about to say that I know the ins and outs of playing as Nemesis, but as with all things it will take practice. But given the fact that it takes three hits from his tentacle to down a survivor, not to mention survivors get a speed boost from contamination which does no damage, makes playing as Nemesis incredibly rough.
Plus he has a very easy tell when he's about to do a tentacle strike. The match I played in was definitely rough because the moment survivors saw the tentacle come out, they started juking all over the place which made it impossible to land hits out in the open outside of windows and pallets. Again it will take practice, but I don't see him being a killer that makes it easy to get 4k kill streaks with. But I will agree with many others that contamination should not give survivors a speed boost.
-
@Plu said:
Can't comment about when playing him but when versing him as a surv the performance seems fine, at least FPS wise, there's only the usual stutter.
The only thing thats weird tho is the range of his power , it seems incredibly inconsistent and there's lots of time when i don't get hit when i'm clearly supposed to take a hit/get infected.
Yeah I had a particular tough time as survivor because whenever I faced against Nemesis the FPS would drop maddeningly low.
-
@Raptoriutz said:
you should probably avoid teams where all/most of them have DLC survivors wearing paid cosmetics.
So basically I should never play because every lobby is like that?
If it's a Resident Evil character I would say no, because many people, especially new players, are excited for Resident Evil. But if you see other cosmetics sets that people are wearing that cost $15, then like they said there's a good chance that is not a new player.
-
DBD has always had terrible matchmaking. For years BHVR has dangled skilled matchmaking like a carrot on a stick. They keep saying that it's coming, but it never does. They are more invested in how the game looks, then how it actually runs. I truly feel sorry for all the new players that Resident Evil brought into the game. All those new players got to see for themselves just how poorly this game runs. Not only is the new map still unplayable almost 2 weeks after release, but the performance is still s***.
-
How were the zombies made worse? And yeah getting a tentacle strike outside of a window or pallet is damn near impossible on a juking survivor. I agree with everyone else that a speed boost should not be given on contamination since it doesn't injure or put survivors in the dying state.
-
Appreciate the replies. I just tried a match and it was pretty seamless. I too play on PS5 so I don't know if they had anything to do with it, but the experience was an enjoyable one. But damn if it doesn't take some time getting used to the tentacle strike!

I understand and agree that SWF is busted. My previous/last reply to Tsulan I think is relevant to what you're saying.
SWF, while fun, is indeed busted. Killers that can hide their terror radius (Wraith, Ghostface, Myers, Pig) is rendered useless so long as your team has proper communication. Even stronger Killers in the hands of professional streamers like Dowsey's Twins proved to be no match for Oracle because of their strong communication and teamwork.
-
Playing as Killer is very much a 1v1 game, but a coordinated SWF can absolutely destroy the Killer since the game is not meant to be a 1v4. Tru's recent games against Oracle proved that. Yes I fully acknowledge the team is one of the top competitive DBD groups in the world, but it goes to show just how powerful a SWF with proper communication can be.
-
The majority of dead by daylight's player base is full of casual players as this game isn't considered highly competitive in the slightest. As such, I personally don't care about dying to the killer or having survivors escape so long as I have a balanced match, which sadly is few and far between.
-
@Seraphor said:
Maybe because the problem is the current matchmaking system, and not specifically MMR?
This is what leads to nonsensical, conspiracy-like, preconceptions about MMR.
"Matchmaking was terrible, must be MMR." / "Matchmaking was great, obviously not MMR." = Both confirmation bias.
Exactly. This is what has led to a drop in the amount of people playing killer, not to mention playing as the killer can be highly stressful. Playing killer is a 1v1 game, however if you go against a coordinated swf, it then becomes a 1v4 game, and if you go up against experienced survivors that play well (which happens far too often with the current matchmaking system) they can absolutely destroy the killer.

Agreed. I simply want to test range, hit boxes, charge time, whether the ability can be used oh inclines etc. Really would be useful for new chapters
Exactly, and there's little to be learned and gained when you're constantly being destroyed left and right.
-
@EntitySpawn said:
I'd like it, does kinda suck your first few matches you feel very pressured rushing into playing when you just want to test the power and how it works etc. Learning the range and angles on nemesis wasnt nice. If I was in a private match I'd know hitting across windows at an angle is painfully hard compared to huntress etc.
I always thought they would have done something with the custom games that would allow single players to load up a match with bots. While I would love to be able to practice with perks in the training mode, just being able to practice with the Killers' base powers would be sufficient enough for me.
-
@lemonsway said:
You'd only be able to select 5 anyway. Base game only has 5 killers on PC and like 7 on Console if i'm not mistaken, Console get's Hag and somebody else. They can't give every killer on Tutorial since you'll have to buy most of them and not everyone does so they can't exactly unlock characters for free even if it's just the Tutorial.
There's really no reason to not give you access to any killer in the tutorial mode that you already have access to in the game. If there is a DLC character that you can't access because you haven't bought them, then you can't practice with them, plain and simple.
-
Ok, far too many people are losing sight on what the core issue is with DBD. Lots of people are getting too hung up on coding and what it takes to patch a game, when the real issue here is that we have to keep going back to this never-ending well of BHVR releasing broken chapters that require constant fixes. Pissed off consumers aren't the bad guys here, it's BHVR.
The very fact that the new map is still unplayable is ridiculous. We just paid for a new chapter that should have came with a new map, and yet here we are a week after release and it's still unplayable unless you're doing a custom game. BHVR was also quick to fix the cosmetics bug, but not the poor performance still plaguing the game. Clearly there's more involved when it comes to performance than simple cosmetics, but it all sends a terrible message to the player base. BHVR clearly does not quality test these chapters, and ensuring that fun glitches like cosmetic swapping is what gets "fixed" first prior to much needed performance patches, again sends the wrong message of what is considered a priority.
Like many of you I spent money for the new Resident Evil chapter, but with the new map being disabled and the game running poorly - especially if you're playing as nemesis - has made me hold off on playing the game altogether until this [BAD WORD] gets fixed. Personally I think they should do more than simply give free blood points, they should also extend the rift.
-
Prestiging was fine when there was only a handful of survivors and Killers, but now the grind has gotten out of control, and simply getting a bloodied outfit just isn't worth it.
-
It's intentional but it definitely needs to be changed. Merely infecting a survivor shouldn't give them a speed boost imo.
-
Yeah I didn't realize the DC penalty had been removed until my game crashed thanks to the wonderful instability that is the Resident Evil chapter. I'm definitely glad because I don't need a faulty game punishing me for something that is entirely out of my control.
-
It's hard telling when the new map will be back up and running, but until everything is fixed I've decided not to play the game anymore as this chapter stutters and lags far too much, and I play on PS5. Obviously hot fixes will improve the stability of the game, but the devs have always cared more about how the game looks instead of how it runs, and the Resident Evil chapter is a shining example of that.

This is really stupid.Why should they only create a new game for next gen consoles and PC?
This game doesn't have insanely detailed graphics,pretty much has 0 AI or anything else that would make it impossible to run on old gen console.
Yeah you're right. Balancing across old generation, new generation, pc, and switch isn't that difficult of a task because everything's been working swimmingly so far. What was I thinking?

Even survivors freeze and it's hard to just keep your rank from going down let alone geting a point from a game.i do everything I unhook get in chase protection hits do some Gene's but on thing that you dont do in a game we dont get a point or we just lose one this is bull crap ash is the only reason I'm playing this game and they keep on messing with mettle of man.
I cant whaet for the evil dead game.
It's going to blow this one out of water.
Ash deserved more in this game. Buckle up is trash. Mettle of man you keep messing with it and flip flop is crap because of hook being 10 feet from echuter.
This hole thing is stuped.
This is my third year playing this.
I too hope that Evil Dead game is good. Seeing that survivors can fight back has me excited to play the game! And I also agree that Ash was handled really poorly in DBD. How the hell can you not incorporate the chainsaw or the boomstick? I get the chainsaw not being in the game, but you mean you can't give him a perk that gives him a one-time get out of jail free card with the boomstick?
-
It's because they keep trying to patchwork the code instead of starting over from scratch. What they should do (and it pains me to say it because I play on an older console) is just create a permanent offline bot mode like what Friday the 13th did, but do it for the older consoles, and then create a true successor that is only on next-gen consoles and PC since this game clearly isn't optimized to work on everything.
Resident Evil brought in a lot of new players, and they're seeing for themselves just how fundamentally broken this game has been for 5 years. When you have to pull a brand new map hours after release because your game is that much broken, then clearly something big needs to be done. I like playing with my friends in this game, but not when the game runs this poorly.
-
Trust me it's not because you have the game on an HDD. I play on the PS4 pro and I'm getting stuttering glitches everywhere. So too are people on high-end PCS and next gen consoles.
Once again BHVR released a new chapter without ensuring that it was adequately optimized for all systems.
-
DBD has brought in a lot of new players thanks to resident evil, but now new players like yourself are starting to realize just how fundamentally broken this game is.
As you've already pointed out, the matchmaking is hot garbage and always has been. Not to mention this game does not function in the way it should since the developers are more focused on eye candy instead of optimization. The fact that BHVR had to pull the brand new resident evil map hours after going live is an embarrassment, and it's no doubt going to reflect on how less than forthcoming other game studios will be in the future when it comes to working with BHVR. Resident Evil is Capcom's most lucrative franchise, and the fact that it's getting such bad word of mouth and bad press thanks to DBD probably makes Capcom regret partnering with BHVR at all.
Sadly the only thing I can say is that you just need to get used to the game playing like s***. For five years now the player base has been asking for the game to run better, for the game to have better matchmaking, for there to be an offline practice mode so you're not sweating against high ranking survivors with Killers you've never played with before, and the list goes on and on. This can be a fun game to play with friends which is what keeps me coming back, but sadly not much else.

https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/258873/experienced-legion-tips
#1 tip, dont expect legion to be strong. They arent. They can be exploited very easily. This does not apply to low level survivor play, but halfway decent survivors can punish their lack of lethality. Point blank- I play them a decent amount because I like them. Dont worry about the kills. If you are worried about kills, you should find a killer that is stronger in chase and has more lethality/pressure.
Bingo. Legion is the only killer that can't down survivors with their power. Adding insult to injury is the painful treatment you get for missing an attack. Not only do you lose your entire power bar, but you endure a stun on par with DS.
Playing Legion can be fun, but it's also painful.
-
So many of these ideas are great. Playing as Legion is fun, but punishing to play. It seems like the two things that most players want the most is to reduce the fatigue stun and the brutally harsh penalty for missing an attack. These two QOL changes would make a world of difference.

https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/258715/this-patch-has-made-killer-unfun
Well the issue I think most killers will run into is they aren’t used to developing skill. You get 4K games at rank 18 and it never ends. Survivors have a much harder grind which is why they’re so good at red ranks. Killers need a higher skill curve to learn to compete. Plus if your definition of fun is a 4K match, that just means you’re the only one having fun. That’s an issue in itself.
Devoping skill? The subject had nothing to do with skill or lack thereof. The subject touches on how bad the performance is, which I wholeheartedly agree makes DBD incredibly infuriating to play right now.
-
Capcom must be so proud to see their most lucrative franchise in the hands of something so broken. 😕

@lemonsway said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/256309/mmr-at-its-finest
EZ explanation, you beat everyone till you got rank 17, those victories made your MMR on Wraith go high cause you won and probably did really well. The ranks no longer matter with MMR wich is why it's a failed system. Winning at low skill levels will project your MMR to face people who you obviously won't be ready for. IT'S A FAILED SYSTEM.
You're definitely not wrong when you say that it's a failed system. I am certainly not a highly skilled killer lol. Even when I did play a lot of killer, I never got any higher than rank 10. I've also been watching a lot of streamers that have been experiencing the same thing. Tru had a match where all the survivors were red rank and the killer was 15, it was ridiculous.
-
@Bullettimegod said:
How many games did you win before this game?
One, and that was a week ago. I average maybe one or two killer games a week. I mostly play survivor because I like to unwind at the end of the day with my friends.
-
@gendoss said:
Well the killer had to have been playing for a while and got rank resetted, or he's been saving bloodpoints playing survivor because he has 4 teachable perks all level 3 at rank 17.
Yeah I mostly play survivor since I prefer playing with my friends. Most of the teachables that I've acquired have been obtained through the shrine since I don't play killer very often. I've always liked Wraith, and I had a daily to complete with him so I added what I had. Little good it did me though. But it's good to know that I'm not the only one experiencing this.
-
Camping and tunneling is incredibly risky because if you go up against a good survivor team, they'll just spread out and knock out the gens while you sit there and waste time with a survivor.
I will say though that I have seen a crazy amount of tunneling as of late, far more than I usually do, and I think that all has to do with the decisive strike rework. I think many killers are expecting survivors to not have it now. But even after the rework, I still never leave home without it! LOL
-
Yeah I agree with what tippy said in that challenges are always evenly split between survivors and Killers so I'm not exactly sure where you're coming from there, but I do agree that lately wait times have been atrocious for survivors. Here in the Midwest in America wait times in the evenings are usually 10 minutes or longer. But honestly I think that points to just how few killer mains there are. Matchmaking is absolutely atrocious in DBD, and everything is a toxic sweat fest at red ranks.
-
^This! Legion is the only killer whose power does not down survivors. So long as survivors play smart you can easily counter Legion which makes him IMO the worst killer in the game. But I agree that having to mend over and over is incredibly boring.
-
Prestiging needs to do more other than give your character a splash of blood on their clothing. It should bring with it the ability to unlock perks at the next rank. So for example if you reached prestige level 1, then every perk you unlock should be at level 2. Prestiging at level 2 would then yield rank 3 perks. And once you have hit prestige level 3, it would cut in half the blood points required in the blood web.

That's...terrible actually. I've only been playing for little more than a month now and I have to say this matchmaking system just confuses the living hell out of me. Like for the life of me I just can't figure out how any of this makes any kind of sense. I get putting someone up against ranks -maaaaybe- five ranks ahead of you at max, to test your skills and everything. But I've argued this before, how do I learn anything from facing red rank survivor death squads that are just light years above my skill level who just roll over me with relative ease? That's not really fun for anyone.
But yeah here's hoping for good news come Tuesday right?
Exactly. You can't really learn anything when you're constantly getting steamrolled, especially when you're trying to practice the mechanics of a new killer. DBD is so ridiculously harsh against new and casual players that I'm amazed this game still has the player base it does.

Jeez, that's rough.
I work all day plus I'm a parent, so my free time is few and far between. The idea of spending what few hours I have out of the day being decimated over and over isn't exactly my idea of fun. I consider myself fortunate just to make it to Green ranks considering how little I get to play, but sadly nothing ever changes. It's just same s***, different day.

Blood is fairly easy to spot in loops and bright maps but darker maps can be a pain in the ass to try and track blood and also bloodhound literally let me see an injured ash going for a unhook from really far away cause he was leaving a bright red trail behind him. Maybe its just cause I have bad vision but I would have never seen blood from that distance without it glowing.
And that's fair, but it's still very much a crutch perk. I'm certainly not implying that crutch perks are bad, but if you can learn to live without them, it can make a world of difference. For example I love spine chill, but once I learned to not rely on it, it freed up much better perks.
-
This is one of the reasons why I stopped playing DBD. For years the community has complained about things like the grind, matchmaking, lack of additional modes, a way to practice, etc, and nothing has been done about it these last 5 years.

I'm not looking for it to be op, but the skill checks definitely need to be increased. In it's current state you can easily heal more than one survivor and never get a skill check.
-
Bloodhound and sloppy butcher was my go-to combo when I was starting out. It's still very effective, but once you start picking up on what blood looks like and you find yourself looking out for it, then it frees up a slot that could be better used for Gen regression or Aura information.
-
Autodidact is fine as it is, but it should definitely increase skill checks more often than it does though.
