  • Personally I think it's very detrimental to the fun that can be had with this game knowing that there's an achievement that is tied to getting to rank 1. There are so many things that can prevent that from happening: tunneling, face camping, bugs and glitches, poor matchmaking, etc.

There have been so many times when I've gotten close to rank 1 only to have the rug pulled out from underneath me, that I've now adopted a carefree attitude. Not caring about how a match turns out helps immensely. I play the game just to play it. Naturally not caring can only take you so far when you're faced against things like poor matchmaking, but accepting that how the game runs may prevent me from ever getting there is a reality I now accept.

It's not really his hitbox, it's dedicated servers. Plus, if Victor didn't have a generous hitbox, he'd be useless. Remember, one missed pounce and he dies, if the survivor has even decent reactions. It'd be way too punishing for what is already not a particularly strong killer.

I agree. Victor needs to have a generous (not crazy) hitbox otherwise the twins would be completely useless and wouldn't pose a threat at all.

  • The 60 FPS is a huge improvement, but the 4K display has caused a much smaller interface which has led to smaller icons. Supposedly it's getting fixed, but as with all things DBD related, that could be in a few weeks, a few months, or a few years.

Legion's performance is average. It's right in the middle of all the Killers at all ranks including among the very best players.

This guy's a Legion main; I'm pretty sure checking his YouTube content and Twitch channel can help you learn better how to play Legion. :)

    https://www.twitch.tv/tatariu

I get that you're just trying to help, but shouldn't Dead by Daylight be the one that teaches us how to play and not some random Twitch/YouTube streamer? Having to rely on outside sources to teach us how to play your game is one of the biggest downfalls about DBD. We can't even practice without competing.

Strange that I rarely if ever get this luck and always seem to get rank 1 or 2 killers.

Well that's because killers of my rank have stopped playing altogether thanks to the shoddy matchmaking. The only ones that are left are the players that have devoted hundreds if not thousands of hours into killer.

I was up against a player a few days back that clicked their flashlight at me at machine gun speed for the entire match.

It didn't blind me or anything but it was none stop as they followed me around trying to start a chase.

    Killed them last.

& a few weeks back i was hit my 4 hunteress hatchets 3 traveled through walls (from a long way off) & one through the floor in the boiler room.

What amazed me more was exactly how the killer knew the exact spot i was stood in (wasn't after a bbq hook for example)

I still leave cross play on though hacks are either few or far between or I just generally don't really notice

Yeah Huntress is one of the main killers that I see hackers use the most. The other night I played with a group of friends and she was throwing hatchets that were going straight through solid objects: trees, walls, etc. We really wanted to DC, but that just rewards the hacker.

  • I have experienced a few hackers, but admittedly it has been rare. You can turn cross-play off and thereby only be matched with people on your specific system. While it can make a world of difference playing with or against another player on another console if you are also on a console, cross-play does help to shorten the wait time.

I just wish those of us playing on console could exclude PC. Not saying you can't be good with a controller, but it's pretty apparent when someone's using a mouse and keyboard. A joystick just can't hold a candle to the accuracy of a mouse.

    IMG_20201221_234452__01.jpg

Yeah your game mirrored the one I just had. I was rank 2, but was having such a rough go of it that I de-pipped all the way back to 5. It's not hard to see why.

    FOMO? that's a you problem

Battle pass? that's a you problem

Too many paid DLCs? all non-licensed DLCs can be obtained through playtime

Ridiculous amount of grind? subjective, somewhat agreed

Expensive microtransactions and currency? that's a you problem

Don't take the game too seriously and let it live/evolve/die as BHVR so chooses. If you don't like it...I'd say don't play it but there's not much else that's enjoyable at the moment.

Sure you don't have buy DLC, sure you can grind for 20 hours to get enough shards for ONE non-licensed character, sure you don't have to buy skins, sure you don't have buy into the DBD currency, sure you don't have to purchase the battle passes...do you see where I'm going with this?

Simply saying that a consumer doesn't have to do anything, doesn't solve the problem at hand. DBD mirrors a free to play mobile game more than ever before. Just look at the choices BHVR made in 2020: instead of having a proper Halloween event with its own currency, BHVR decided to sell us a battle pass. Instead of a double blood point event during the last week of December, they decided to give us daily login bonuses for the month of December. Which sounds nice on paper, until you realize that an entire week's worth of login bonuses can be gained by simply playing one Killer match.

And bear in mind, this is all attached to a game that you have to purchase money for. The Silent Hill dead by daylight edition alone is $50. Imagine spending that much money and then finding all of these free to play mechanics in a game you just purchased full price for.

If none of this puts you off then more power to you, but most of the DBD community doesn't feel that way.

Ah yes, well there are two solutions and i mean no disrespect uninstall or play surv. Playing surv however might be boring cause the only fun is to bully killer. I went with uninstalling, i am sure game got enough killers anyways

None taken. I already do play survivor more than I do killer because I play this game with a group of friends. It's so imbalanced that if it wasn't for the fun conversations that can be had with my friends, I would have stopped playing a long time ago and never looked back.

  • Yeah as father dark mentioned, what is already in the game is far from what you could properly call a "training mode". It doesn't teach you how to loop, it doesn't teach you how to use killer powers, hell it doesn't even teach you how to use pallets. The fact that we have to seek outside help because the game doesn't teach us how to use its own mechanics is one of the biggest downfalls about dead by daylight.

The problem is, there isn't many top tier killers.

At high level, survivors enormously outnumber killers.

There's just not enough red rank killers to go around. But way too many skilled survivors who refuse to leave dead by daylight.

This is why killers need more buff.

I don't think Killers necessarily need a buff, there just needs to be a better pip system and better matchmaking. Behavior stated that on average most games should end with two kills and two escapes, but anyone who plays this game knows that that simply does not happen.

The matchmaking in this game sees to it that far more experienced players are tasked with competing against less experienced players far too often. Which is why I've always said there should be a practice mode that allows (newer) players to hone their skills, or at the very least practice the basics before being expected to compete.

  • I definitely use it, especially when the matchmaking doesn't work properly. No one should be playing against someone 10 ranks higher or lower than someone else.

Attracting and keeping new -killers- is low. Survivors is too easy to keep people around; play with your friends along with their 5th perk of Comms.

Killer? You're thrown into the fire. Good luck.

True. Playing with friends is so less stressful than Killer, because at least your friends can help show you the ropes. With Killer it's just you, and to make matters worse the game doesn't teach you how to play, or allow you to practice. And for new Killers, that can be incredibly detrimental to any fun that can be had.

I've been constantly running DH just for Ruin+Undying. This meta right now is very unkind to other hexes, besides the occasional H:HG. That combination is so strong that it is a loss bringing other hexes along just to avoid losing Ruin respawn points.

Also, many survivors are bringing maps as well as Detective's Hunch. On the one recent game a killer brought NOED, i knew the 2 remaining totems so it was not difficult to get rid of it. The whole perk was resumed to 1 exposed effect.

Yeah the group that I play with are always running small game since ruin and undying is all too common now.

I feel you bro. They don’t fix it bc they don’t have time but hey, new skins coming right?

The art department and the game designers are two entirely separate teams so I can't fault them for something like this, but what is incredibly frustrating is just how tired I am asking for the same things over and over again. Whoever calls the shots at BHVR clearly chooses to rush these chapters out the door long before they're ready, and in return the devs spend so much time fixing all of the bugs that there's literally no time left to implement the features that we want.

Simply put, I've learned to accept that there will never be a practice mode, there will never be quality matchmaking, the game will always have game breaking bugs, and nothing will ever be done to reduce the grind. Failed expectations is what dead by daylight will always be known for, so if you're not happy with it now, don't expect that to change in the future.

  • @carnage4u said:

Every day for 6 months someone has posted about how bad the matchmaking is. I assume it has gone on long before then, but I only started coming here this year.

The matchmaking in this game is awful and the devs should be embarrassed by it. The fact when they try to setup MMR based matchmaking it has failed in the past is further proof they are very bad at basic concepts in an online game.

They also don't really care or this problem would have been addressed a long time ago.

Yeah that's unfortunately what I think as well. The MMR was supposedly a priority, but it doesn't look that way anymore.

  • @VikingWilson said:

I saw my buddy at rank 20 with a killer never played before matched with two reds and two purples.

Yup. I know people have predicted doom and gloom for DBD in the past, but I find those predictions to be more prevalent than ever. With matchmaking in the state that it is, and no single player content of any kind, the odds of DBD attracting and keeping new players is incredibly low.

The question is do you learn more against someone with more experience when you are less experienced instead of someone who is less experienced when you are less experienced, rather than learn off of each other and try new things on the spot you go against someone who already knows them and will happily teach you lessons until the gens are done

    sure it might sting

but you improve much faster then what you could learn by going against someone of your exact skill rank

watch other players and try and mimic your gameplay after them then try and understand the gameplay until it becomes your own

or just play a better killer myers is very abusable

You're missing the point we're trying to make though. You keep saying that you'll improve much faster by competing against someone far more experienced than yourself. No one's denying that, but there has to be a gradual process. Sure I know how to swim, but that doesn't mean I'm ready to compete against Olympic athletes.

There's a reason why there's a beginner, intermediate, and advanced categories for many trades out there. Yeah I could learn something by jumping straight into expert difficulty, but that doesn't mean I'm going to understand it, let alone keep up.

  • @Crazewtboy said:

Had this happen the other night. Me and my one friend were at the start of green and my other friends were in yellow/white. We got a red rank one clown. Wasn't a fun experience. Reasons like that are gonna cause this game to lose players

Yeah I play this game with friends a lot more than I do solo, so I do play survivor more than I do killer, but despite experiencing that same setup when I'm playing with my friends, the fact that I'm playing with friends helps to make it more bearable.

Experiencing this uneven playing field when playing solo, however (regardless if its killer or survivor) is something that I don't ever care to experience again. I'm perfectly comfortable never playing killer again until this matchmaking nonsense is sorted out.

  • @bjorksnas said:

So this happens to everyone and for some reason

personally I actually see it now as a blessing in disguise

going against good players even if they are ruthless is really putting you nose to the grindstone and its a good way to improve quickly at the game, while you could just whack other babies for another 200 hours while barely learning anything, going against good survivors would probably make you learn 10x faster, id say if you are up to the challenge go for it as 98% of it is uphill from here (2% is still when you get a good swf that will probably guaranteed crush you)

I get what you're saying, but I couldn't disagree more. Yes going up against someone more experienced can improve your playstyle, but getting destroyed that badly doesn't help anyone. Expecting players to compete while they practice is hard enough, which is precisely why the matchmaking needs to be on point.

In that game there I wasn't able to manage more than two hooks and a handful of hits, and I assure you I have no intention on repeating that experience over and over while I get marginally better.

You are right the emblem system was a mistake. I can play badly as Legion and get a double-pip but have really good game of Hillbilly and I black pip. By that logic, Legion is somehow better than Hillbilly? It's clearly too difficult to balance every killer for emblems.

I really hope MMR is still going to happen. I'd rather red rank players wait a bit longer (obviously not the 45 minutes @Tsulan mentioned) than scare away more potential killer players by carelessly matchmaking against anyone available.

Unfortunately I don't think the MMR is still happening. It's been months since they shut it off, let alone even talked about it. Almo said it was still a priority, but it sure doesn't look like that anymore.

To be honest I stopped expecting features that we have long been asking for. Dead by Daylight is almost 5 years old, and the community has been asking for a training mode since day one, whereas the free to play mobile game received one within three months of release.🤨 How long have we been asking for more blood hunt events? There was always one at the end of December, but this year they give us login bonuses. The list goes on and on. Seriously, WTH?

  • Had another daily tonight where I had to mark 4 survivors as Ghostface. Once again my rank 11 was matched against an all red rank team. Not only did I not get a chance to mark a single survivor, but to add insult to injury I had never played with Ghostface before.

Congratulations BHVR, you've successfully seen to it that I will never tackle a killer that I've never played with before until there is a proper training mode. Getting destroyed over and over while I get marginally better is not my idea of fun.

  • @Tsulan said:

The matchmaking is doing its best.

It prioritizes faster queues over rank and maybe even region.

Since there are not enough red rank killers, it matches survivors with the next thing it finds.

Ironically this leads to even less people willing to play killer. Because new players getting rofl stomped by red ranks isn't exactly something appealing.

And clearly it's best is not good enough. Throwing anyone and everyone into a match simply to reduce the wait isn't the right way to go about doing it. All this is going to do is drive away newer players from ever tackling killer.

  • @Grandpa_Crack_Pipe said:

You'd think too many survivors would mean there's at least 4 near your rank.

Right?! How the hell is there not anyone within 10 levels of my rank?

  • @Zozzy said:

This right here is why there is a dwindling player base of killers. This is why it takes forever to get into a match as a survivor.

I have been running FunGoose's build - Corrupt Intervention, Pop Goes The Weasel, Oppression and Tinkerer. I have played 23 so far and have 4k'd in every game except 1 (which was a one kill game). This is in red ranks, not that rank matters.

Damn that's a good build! I always thought that PWYF was a good perk, but I hate to purposefully lose chases just to build it up.

It is not the most powerful but it is to take advantage of its low terror radius.

Monitoring and Abuse, infectious Fright, Knockout and Dark devotion or Tinkerer and Trail of Torment.

    Thanks. Appreciate it!

  • @Jarol said:

Success? I always have it with Myers.

    Awesome...and you're build is?

  • Considering that dead by daylight is one of the grindiest games ever, and that there still hasn't been anything implemented that helps to lessen that grind, I have no problem whatsoever farming with survivors.

And let's face it, some of the challenges in the tomes are so incredibly situational that for some people the easiest way to complete it is to farm with survivors and the Killer. Perfect example, there's a challenge that requires you to use POP eight times in a single match. Not only can it sometimes be rare to hook people eight times, but to kick generators eight times in a single match rarely happens even if you do have POP.

So yeah, sometimes I love me a good farming session!

  • Yeah this is why I have a hard time playing with Legion. I'm fine that missing an attack cancels your power, but having to rebuild it back up from scratch is ridiculously punishing. At least with Ghostface you have the added benefit of having no terror radius until you decide to attack or are broken out of your power

  • Killer: Pyramid Head

Perks: BBQ, Tinkerer, Nurse's calling, Sloppy butcher.

Add ons: Anything that increases punishment of the damned.

Being able to stealthily attack survivors through walls is a huge advantage with this build.

  • I don't think any of us have stopped playing DBD, but I think the more accurate question is, "Are you still having fun?".

  • Most times I find myself using Sprint burst instead because at least with Sprint burst it's guaranteed to work. Because of players pings sometimes dead hard will activate, but nothing will happen because the hit validation won the coin toss.

  • @Exerath1992 said:

I mean, think about dark souls. Its so frustrating because it doesn't always make things exactly fair, you throw the controller, walk away for days, but you pick it up again. Why? Because the frustration of failure makes the victories so much sweeter. Of course bad bugs are frustrating in a different way entirely. What im talking about is the frustration of learning a new killer (as or against) but getting better and learning how to cover for where they lack. Survivors feel frustrating because you feel powerless, but you learn where you excel and play to your strengths. High mobility killers are frustrating because they're hard to control. You get better through practice. High effectiveness killers get frustrated because of a lack of gen pressure, but you learn what perks and tactics best cover where you fall short.

If darksouls wasn't hard it wouldn't be satisfying. Same for DBD.

Saying that dead by daylight's level of frustration is no different than a game like dark souls, makes me wonder if you have played dark souls.

What keeps gamers coming back to a game like dark souls is that despite how frustrating some encounters may be, the core mechanics are there to overcome any obstacle and any challenge, it just takes practice. Now yes there is a level of practice to be had with DBD, but DBD is so bug-ridden, so heavily dependent on a good ping, so heavily reliant on the right perks and proper matchmaking, on top of hoping that players don't play in a toxic way (camping, tunnelling, etc), that comparing the frustration levels in both games couldn't be more night and day.

  • Yeah I saw that interview, and it was rather revealing on just how out of touch BHVR is with their community. Frustration isn't a driving factor for any game. At the end of a long day I just want to unwind with a good game. I either want to delve into an excellent story, or play a good game alongside my friends. Unfortunately DBD doesn't offer any of that.

The DBD community has been asking for the same features year in and year out. How long have we been asking for a training mode? The FREE TO PLAY mobile game received one within three months of release, and here the main game has been out for almost 5 years and we still don't have anything like that. The only thing that BHVR seems to be consistent at is releasing bug-filled chapters that they feel perfectly comfortable charging us money for.

Simply put, we're whales to them and nothing more.

  • My group of friends played against a ranked one demogorgon last night, and he proceeded to camp the first hook he got, and slug all of us that tried to come for the rescue. To make matters worse he brought in party streamers, and because he played the way he did the match didn't last any longer than 5 minutes, and every survivor walked away with less than 10,000 blood points (not including what the party streamers added). Even the killer barely walked away with 20,000 blood points.

It was rare to come across a camping demogorgon, but to see that playstyle from a supposedly "rank 1" player was really upsetting.

  • @stargazer9 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1841362#Comment_1841362

Also with a Training Mode they can learn the maps and familiarize themselves with the tiles. Would be good for old players too when a new map releases. The mobile version added a training mode only 3 months after the initial release so there’s no reason for a version that released 4 years ago not to have one.

Yeah there's no excuse good enough as to why DBD still doesn't have a training mode. If the FREE TO PLAY mobile game can have one, there's no reason for the main game to not have one either.

  • Demo, Clown, Twins, Hag, and Deathslinger. It's pretty rare when I see these killers.

  • I love the new Ormond. Not only does it look great, but I love the weather effects. We definitely need more weather effects in more maps! I would love if they introduced rain in the reworked swamp!

  • IMG_20201221_234408__01.jpg

Crap like this. A matchmaking system that allows it's players to fall all the way back to begginer levels, and thereby destroy newer players.

  • The game has set such an incredibly high bar for new players. Given the state of matchmaking it's all too common to have someone with hundreds if not thousands of hours competing against someone who just started, which is why it boggles my mind that there is still not a proper training mode. Obviously bots will not be as efficient as an actual human being, but they can still help provide a decent challenge and let newcomers get their bearings straight while they practice the basics.

It's the reason why DBD has a dwindling player base of killers. BHVR can throw as many login bonuses our way as they want, but it's not going to get newcomers to stick around.

  • Spine Chill works on all killers with no terror radius which can help. But for Killers like Ghostface, Wraith, and tier one Myers, you just have to keep your eyes open.

  • @burt0r said:

They simply should double the number of dailies with three on side always killer and three on the other always survivor and keep the throw away option once per day.

But hey this would lessen the grind for people playing both in giving them 6 instead of 3 dailies so they won't do it without either halving the rewards or make 2/4 part of a season pass /s (Sadly this might be true to some point)

I think that's a fair suggestion. It's not too far off from what I suggested in that I think there should be at least one killer and one survivor challenge every day. I have friends that play nothing but survivor, and they sometimes go weeks without getting a single survivor challenge.

  • @MrGrizzly said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1840429#Comment_1840429

I don't think these challenges encourages people to play killer in any way. I see killers more often throw the game just to get their challenge done (Including me sometimes). Do you think this is a form of good encouraging of people to play killer? No you just waited 5 hours to get a game where the killer threw.

If you really think it does encourage people to play killer, I think that's then a dumb way to try and make killer more "fun". Instead of just giving an abysmal amount of killer challenges, why not try to FIX the problems people have with the killer role. Like we've all suggested multiple things to make the role more fun, but these changes happen so slow because of the high amounts of new buggy content they add every 3 months, they've even nerfed the moris, which is a good thing, but do you think more people like playing killer now? No. And yes I know about the probably high probability of the key nerf, but how long is that going to take, like the mori?

Just things like a color blind mode... It can't be that hard to make, right? It can't give more advantages than trying to get some nvidia geforce filter on yourself, it's dumb that people need to fix the problem themselves when we've been screaming for years that it's a problem.

Survivor and killer challenges need to be the same amount, it does not encourage people to play killer more. Might aswell give people that play survivor (That have it a harder time to grind BP than killers imo, just look at the survivor's BP in your games and how much effort you put to get yours) alot, an easier time to play as, and I'm looking at solo Qrs, I'm not a big fan of swf, but I have no big problem with them.

    It's a small change, but it's a small step to b a l a n c e the two roles.

Yeah I've seen far too many Killers throw matches as a way to get their dailies done. It's why you'll sometimes go up against a killer with nothing more than one perk to their name, despite the fact that they themselves are equal to your own rank.

It's also really frustrating that so many QOL improvements take forever to come to fruition because the team is too busy fixing the bugs from every chapter and mid-chapter update they release. The game engine is showing it's age, and it clearly can't handle anything else that may radically change how Killers or survivors interact with it. Case in point, The Twins.

There just isn't enough killers. If ur rank 13 or below, u will face red rank survivors.

There is enormous amount of red rank survivors who is ready to bully the killer.

But there's only a handful of top tier killers.

And if u play long enough, u'll notice that u will start running into the same red rank killer.

Dbd is not just survivor sided in gameplay, it is also survivor sided in matchmaking.

    But ppl will disagree.

It's a 4v1 game so there will always be far more players tackling survivors than killer. But it also doesn't help that playing killer is so much harder for newer players than survivor. A lot of this could be solved with a training mode, but I doubt we'll ever see it.

Just trash the dailies u don't like. I would like to think that the dailies are based on a supply and demand.

If u want more survivor dailies, encourage other ppl to play killers. If there is too many killers, I'm pretty sure u will see more survivor dailies.

But nobody wants to play killers. It's a hated role. Ppl demonize killers.

But that wouldn't make a difference. Even the devs themselves admitted that the dailies favor killer more than they should. They do plan on changing that, but like many things it's in the "planning stage" so god only knows when that'll be

  • @noctis129 said:

As a survivor, I'm more afraid of other survivors than the killer.

As I said solo survivor is no walk in the park. Bad teammates can sour any experience. But I find those kind of matches few and far between compared to loading up a killer match and finding that survivors are roughly 10 levels higher or lower than yourself. The last match I played as Bubba I was rank 13, and every single survivor was rank 4. Needless to say it didn't end well for me. LOL

  • @noctis129 said:

We need killer challenges. For many ppl, it's the only reason they even play killer.

Otherwise that survivor queue will even be longer than it is.

I don't think anyone is disputing the fact that there should be dailies to encourage people to play killer, but there needs to be just as many dailies for survivors as well.

Given the state of matchmaking, jumping into a killer match is already a tall order for new players. And let's face it, there are some killers you just don't like to play with. I don't care how many hag dailies I get, I'm never going to do them because I don't care to play as her. I'm not saying she's a bad killer, it's just not what I prefer to play.
