  • No, he's right.

At higher MMR, people will know what you're doing and will actively take steps to prevent you from getting that achievement.

    First it's the tunneling.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/DP2D6BQCD7EX/download-2818-29.jpg

Second it's facing Killers who play from a different planet whose ping you can no longer see.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/57IICRAQ8ON6/screenshot-2.png

Third it's call of Brine and Eruption every second game.

Who do you think actually had fun here? This game went on for 22 minutes.

    Eh...

Tunneling sucks, but - if you watch the recent community cup games - the only way for the killer to win a lot of the time is to get one person out as early as possible. I wish the game worked a bit differently, and there was some perk or viable way to spread the damage, but if you're looking to win and not get told to uninstall in postgame, trying to 2 hook everyone before killing anyone is seldom viable.

There's not much you can do about ping, but it cuts both ways. Trying to catch a survivor who seems to teleport around and is almost impossible to hook because they are playing from the Arctic isn't much fun either.

COB/Eruption - there will always be a meta. Before this, it was PR+DMS. Before that, Ruin+Undying. Eruption will almost certainly get nerfed down to Thana levels thanks to the forum complaints, and then it'll be something else - probably back to PR+DMS. And then people will complain about that, until it gets nerfed and the next meta emerges. On and on, ad infinitum.

In the same vein: it's no fun as a killer to load up a crazy meme build, only to get sent to Badham by a sweat squad who are at 1 gen after 4 minutes, then proceed to clown on you.

EDIT: Also - that game looked pretty damn close. Everyone but that Leon got a decent wodge of BP too.

    @PrincessCalla said:

Been my experience as well and no longer fun like it was before. I find myself wanting to play less and less due to needing breaks after having being tunneled for every single match (not exaggerating) after playing for hours. If it's not tunneling it's dealing with the eruption thing.

My friend already quit and I don't blame them. Makes me sad to see this happening as dbd was so much fun for me before.

    Before...what?

Eruption probably needs some tweaks, but tunneling was much easier before the meta shakeup.

    @[Deleted User] said:

I feel you. The game is in a really bad spot right now. This is the least amount of time I've played as of late in the past 4 years. Awful meta and awful matchmaking.

Aside from the current Eruption thing, I'd say that the perk meta is more varied than it ever has been on both sides.

Matchmaking can be pants at times, but ranks were so much worse.

Let's see, off the top of my head: StarCraft, Hearthstone, Legends of Runeterra, Battletech, Battlefleet Gothic Armada, Dawn of War, Battlesector, World of Warcraft (Dueling), Darkest Dungeon (Butcher's Circus), XCOM (Multiplayer)... and probably many, many others.

Like I said, DbD is highly unusual for penalizing you for conceding. If one player in a 1v1 sees no point in continuing the match, they can usually give up at any time. The game counts it as a loss, and everyone moves on. And the player's reasons for conceding, as far as the game is concerned, are none of your business.

    Oof. Okay.

SC2 is 1v1, ditto Hearthstone. Actually most of these are.

I'd love for a 'concede' button to exist, but this is not a good analogy.

  • @MrDavidRay said:

It seems like every other match, at least one person disconnects. And it is becoming an increasingly demoralizing factor for the game. Simply put, it makes the game NOT fun.

What more can be done to mitigate DCs? It seems like the current system of progressive timeout penalties isn't much of a deterrent; if it were, we wouldn't be seeing as many DCs as we are.

Other games have successfully addressed this. Why can't BHVR seem to get it right when it comes to disconnects?

And I don't think this is a 'balance' issue with the game. It's an issue where entitled people -- killer and survivor -- are losing, so they decide to rage quit, and then they aren't penalized for it, but the other people in the match suffer.

More needs to be done about disconnects. PLEASE!

I'm currently putting together a thing, but basically tracking my last 300 games on both killer and survivor. At 200ish now, and it's bonkers.

At least a third of my games as killer have someone quitting - be it a DC, a suicide or an AFK.

Slightly less on survivor, which makes sense because I'm one of them.

Me bringing flans or streamers had no effect on the rate of quitting, so I don't think a reward for not quitting would have much of an effect.

Short term - DC penalty only decays when you play out matches without DCing. Remove kobes - these serve no purpose in the game other than an 'I quit' button for the most part, and that other 4% of the time it becomes really annoying for the killer. Rebalance and rework perks as needed.

Long term - DC or AFK players are replaced by bots.

  • @Ripley said:

The "community" is its own worst enemy a lot of the time. Compared to other games I play, DBD offers so many ways to basically ruin other players experience. I blame the devs for forcing this competition mindset.

It's more that PvP games tend to bring out the worst in people, so you need to have moderation in place to discourage toxicity, while also potentially rewarding good behavior.

I remember League of Legends being notoriously horrible for a long time, but within 6 months after the Tribunal was formed, it was night and day.

Fostering a good community means that you need to fumigate your game to get rid of the butts. Because one butt can stink up games for hundreds of people.

  • @RakimSockem said:

I know these people exist in every gaming community and they probably aren't as numerous as the good people, but sometimes the DBD community just feels like a crowd of people out to be jerks and inconvenience other people.

Yesterday I was just going through the Winter tomes and getting challenges done and I get to the one where I need to take a hit while hiding in a snowman. Simple enough.

First game, I get a doctor. From the beginning of the match, I try to hop in snowmen and get him to hit me. He shocks me out of the snowmen. I even went as far as to hop straight of the hook, injured, and run into a snowman and he refused to hit me, to the point where he literally missed THREE back to back shocks because I was able to get close enough where it wouldn't hit me. Needless to say, I didn't get the challenge done.

Second game, I get a Deathslinger (fml, right?). This one shoots me out of the snowmen with the harpoon twice and idk if that counts or not so I ended up blocking him in shack while he was trying to chase someone else. He FINALLY m1'd me because he hadn't reloaded yet but goddamn, I don't get it.

You want me dead. I'm literally handing you a free hit so there's no downside to you hitting me. It's a literal win-win but people in this community would rather go out of their way and miss 3 shocks just to stop someone from getting a silly challenge done.

Now before anyone comes out with the "omg, entitled survivor main thinks the killer needs to cater to his challenge and blah blah", I don't think they HAVE to. My question is: What would that Doctor have lost by just hitting me?

Because internet, and the fact that this game is virtually unmoderated unless you're using slurs, and the devs have an...interesting concept of toxicity.

    Toxic Mandy.JPG

For instance, last night we had a really obnoxious game against a Ghostface who hard camped from the first down and basically just accumulated slugs, letting them bleed out.

The really annoying thing - 3 people had brought flans and 1 had brought streamers. The sort of game where I, as killer, would probably go 'okay, let's try to make sure that everyone gets some BP once I control the game'.

    20221222164506_1.jpg

People don't enjoy this sort of thing and I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of incoming players ran right into the wall of general nastiness this community often represents, and just quit.

Stop propagating the idea that Twins is getting a rework, this has never been confirmed at all. All they said is that they were looking into the killer due to QoL demands.

They've been saying they want to rework Twins for a while now. And duh, I'm using 'rework' in the sense that other killers got reworked. Sometimes this is substantial, sometimes it's more of a QOL thing and addon pass.

If all these perks are ok, then Eruption is also okay since it has much more counterplay to it.

I'm curious how Windows is 'busted'?

  • @GlamourousLeviathan said:

As busted? Idk. But more busted I know a few: Off the Record, Circle of Healing, old Decisive Strike, old old Decisive Strike, old Dead Hard, current Dead Hard, Unbreakable, old Iron Will, Deliverance, old Mettle of Man, Prove Thyself, reworked Boil Over, Windows of Opportunity, Adrenaline, OG Self-Care, Lithe, Sprint Burst, Exponential, old Borrowed Time and old Spine Chill.

Eh...OTR is fine. It's strong, but it has counterplay.

New Dead Hard is also okay. Occasionally it can be bloody annoying, but I honestly still prefer Lithe.

    What's OP about Windows?

  • @arcticgirl36 said:

I really enjoy solo queue games. I find it peaceful and zen. I regularly meet phenomenal survivors who are often better than my SWF teamates. However, when I play SWF, I invariably have a friend, who is not necessarily even as knowledgeable about the game as I am, who basically tries to micromanage and dictate my every move during the game like they are the coach of me. I have even had friends tell me what perks I am allowed to use. In SWF I also get friends who erroneously think they are higher MMR than me. Another thing I enjoy about solo queue is not always being peer pressured to do voice communications, which I often find annoying. Yet I constantly hear people complain about solo queue, whereas I find it joyous. Does anybody else find solo play preferable to SWF?

    Eh...it depends.

The sad thing about this game is that the amount of fun you're going to have in a match depends entirely on the amount of fun your opponents want you to have.

For example, yesterday I did a 'killer' day.

I had a match where I wanted to do some fun meme stuff with Wesker and a 'massive terror radius' build. However, I ran smack into a 3man SWF with 2 brand new parts, PTS, Potential Energy and a Badham offering. I got trounced and barely got to try the build out because gens were flying.

I also had a match where I...think it was an old archive, and I needed to kill everyone with a specific perk equipped. So I ran my nastiest Hag build and sent them to RPD. Turns out that I was against a duo who wanted to mess around with Head On and I destroyed them.

    Today I was playing survivor.

Had a Huntress who slug camped on her first down, which was miserable. So I switched to my stronger survivor build and ran a chunky medkit, only to get put up against an extremely chill Wesker.

    Aye, NA.

What part of my post was hyperbole? Am I wrong that Deadlock locks a single gen for 30 seconds, whereas Eruption inflicts incapacitated for 25 seconds on every person working on an Erupted gen? Am I wrong that every erupted gen loses 10% progress, as opposed to the 15% from Pain Res on one gen? Am I wrong that the gen continues to tick down while you're helplessly staring at it, unable to heal or do anything productive?

And yeah, I have a vendetta. I'm tired of going up against Eruption every game I decide to play as survivor, against killers sitting in comfy 3-gens, trying their absolute hardest to tunnel someone out early, or at least camp them in the safety of their 3-gen. I'm tired of having to dodge using this perk because of how brainless it makes any killer game I decide to use it on. But that's not what this discussion is about.

Eruption isn't just something "nice". Something nice is Pain Res. It's a balanced perk, with counterplay, that rewards a killer for a down with a hook, and can be anticipated and counterplayed (the info aspect of it, at least) by getting off a gen right before a hook, which is visible to all players in the game, unless inflicted by Blindness. Eruption is simply far too powerful, mathematically and practically.

You keep making this false dichotomy where a killer is either in chase or pressuring a 3-gen. That's not how this game works, at all. Besides, assuming an area is deadzoned enough, a killer can secure a hit within 10 seconds of pressuring someone off a gen, go back to kick it, and still hold pressure over the rest of the 3-gen with little effort.

Okay. I'll set it up next month sometime, and we can settle this one properly. You're going to stick to a 3gen strat with Eruption and we're going to bust the 3gen. Will be me (intermediate survivor) and 3 other chaps (highly experienced to expert, one plays some comp on occasion). Already got a plan.

    Hyperbole? Sure.

    • 'It's the most busted perk ever added to the game', while other people explained that stuff like BT, MOM, BO, DS, BL, OoO etc. were way stronger, and literally had no counterplay.
    • 'It has no counterplay'. It absolutely has counterplay, just go and watch some of the community cup games where killers got pantsed, even though they were running Eruption. The counterplay is - calling out when you're going down, so people can release their gens. Or run something like Empathy and try to anticipate it. Yes, it's tough for solo queue, but again - this game cannot be balanced around solo queue. The best BHVR can do is give solos some extra tools to communicate.
    • 'Eruption is an automatic win'. See, again, the community cup. Killers slugged, camped, tunneled, ran Eruption - and aside from on extremely killer sided maps like Midwich (even then...) killers had a hell of an uphill struggle. And that was with extremely tight controls on what survivors could bring.
    • 'I face a dedicated 3gen Eruption strat every game'. Bull. I've seen this happen...maybe twice over my last close to 70 survivor matches, and I see it at about the same rate catching up on Otz and JRMs streams.

Let's throw in a little bit of ye olde 'us versus them' nonsense:

    • 'The game's rhythm is in the agency of the killer' - complete nonsense. Again, go watch some of the community cup games. Survivors set the tempo of the game, the killer role is reactive for the majority of a match.

This discussion is absolutely about you having an admitted vendetta, because that means you *cannot be objective* about this, and are only looking to tear something down rather than fix it.

And you sort of proved my earlier point. PR is balanced, by your own statement. And yet, PR was the subject of a ton of QQ threads when it was meta. Because that is the pattern. Whatever the killer meta is, at any point in time, will be complained about.

You keep using this word - 'pressuring' and I'm not sure what you mean. They are either staking out a 3gen early and not leaving, or they are roaming and chasing while trying to preserve that 3gen. In this case, it is on the survivors to identify it and break it preemptively. It's not a false dichotomy, it's a true dichotomy. If it's a 3gen strat, it's one of these two.

If they're just getting a hit then going back to the 3gen, and not making any effort to get downs - that probably constitutes the exact situation Peanits was describing, so report it. They aren't making any effort to win, they are trying to stalemate the game and force survivors to DC or run down the timer.

I can't account for events. New players aren't gonna stick around 6 months for those either.

I think I've spent a total of $60 on the game. 40 to buy it, I think and 20 for Steve skins. Everything else has been gifted to me.

The more the years go on, the more DBD's model seems like a F2P game.

Well...it is, sort of. I mean, it's on deep special for maybe 4 months of the year, and even outside of that it's what...$15?

For a game that'll last you potentially thousands of hours, even factoring in spending the same as two AAA games in total, you've done pretty well.

My point is that you'd have to math shards out differently, because I know I'm swimming in the things most of the time from login rewards, events and the like. Aside from...maybe my first 40 hours, I've generally had enough to get what I needed - the only mandatory 'buy in' was Bubba for BBQ, and that changed.

I already knew that I had to upgrade PS Plus or buy the game from the store. I have the game on disc but my console doesn't read certain discs and this is one of them. This is all about money as usual. How can they say it will always be free as long as your a member of PS and then they move it up. Extra has nothing for me all the games are rubbish even when they were all on Now I never played any of them one dollar games.

This sucks, but - unless I'm mistaken - it has nothing to do with DbD and more Sony's usual shenanigans. You'll have to take it up with them.

Title. Playing during the event felt so much more rewarding. Bad match? Oh well, I got a full Rift Fragment out of it, two if I'm lucky, and I'll get even MORE next match! Now that it's over, a single bad match makes me go "why even bother?", especially since I've finished the Tome challenges pertaining to Ghostface and any others that are reasonable to complete without throwing.

I was also a fan of it, just noticed that it ended today. Fortunately I got a lot of games in during, and ended up with a ton of shards and have almost finished the Deep Rift.

The general Shard rate is usually about 300 per hour of gameplay.

Yup. But there are also pretty frequent events that basically vomit shards at you. I know that I've spent...maybe $130 on this game since I bought it, and I have all the licensed killers and a bunch of fun skins.

In that, I think the only non-licensed killers I bought were Knight (more fool me, but I wanted Fogwise and NTH) and Blight way back when.

I've also bought a lot from the shrine over the years.

I've played maybe 70 games? Hang on, I've been working on a...thing.

Yeah, 67 games as of tonight, over the past 2 weeks. And I was incorrect. One game against the Knight where he was AFK and one where he got destroyed with 1 hook.

The only killers I've seen less of are Twins and Demogorgon, at 0/1 a piece. For a brand new killer, that's insane.

I wonder how disconnected your mind must be to think that pressuring an area and chasing are two independent actions that happen in sectioned off bubbles.

The constructive part was the breakdown of the mechanical function of Eruption as compared to perks that are similar and an explanation on how Eruption is far superior. I'm not providing a suggestion, as this thread is under general discussions, not feedback and suggestions.

I'd love to play against you and three of your buddies while I'm running Eruption so I can slap the smug out of you.

Shrug. Once everyone gets back in and 2023 is properly underway, I'll happily hold you to that - I'm sure I can find a few 2000 hour folks who'd even be happy to upload the video after.

EDIT: As I'm typing this, I've got 2 already who'd be keen. NA, right?

You can all decide on the killer and the map at the time.

There was no 'constructive' part of that post mate. It was hyperbole, exaggeration, false claims and then a demand to completely gut the perk...basically because you have a vendetta here. You lost to something, got annoyed and now want to...I guess punish people for using it? And yes, you did give both 'feedback' and 'suggestions', especially this part:

"Eruption needs to be nerfed into the ground"

Again - vendetta. You aren't looking to reign an overpowered perk in while keeping it viable, you're looking to take something nice away from people because you have a chip on your shoulder.

And no, 'pressuring an area' isn't camping a 3gen. For the...fourth time now - if they are sitting there and not chasing anyone, then that's a hostage game. If they are chasing, then you can bust the 3gen.

  • @ByeByeQ said:

It makes me wonder how many players try DbD, realize how bad the grind is and leave never to return.

It's not great, but it's also not terrible - especially compared to what it once was.

    @WeakestNurseMain said:

For all the annoyances that come from the random drop system from TF2, it's pretty much the best middle ground any company can get, play for 20 mins and you get a random item, you can then take this item, turn into scrap/tokens, and use the crafting system to get the items you actually want, add onto this the fact that (most of the time) the stock option is viable and (most of the time) the weapons are not direct upgrades from stock, there's incentive to purchase the weapons you want outright, but even if you don't, you can still get everything you want in a reasonable amount of time.

Now let's compare this to DBD: If you want some perks without spending money, then oh boy is there a grind waiting for you, first of all, it takes straight up 3-4 days of time in order to get one character, let me repeat that, 3-4 days, not including the fact that you have to sleep, so in reality it would be more like 6-7 if you spent every waking moment playing DBD. Then, once you have your character, you need to level them up till they're prestiged, costing about 1 million bloodpoints and taking several minutes of time. Oh yeah, and let me remind you: this is for 1 character, so if you want let's say 3 different characters perks, then oh boy, get ready to grind for a really long time, god bless you if you want more than that, and you're gonna need a greater blessing from god if you actually have a life.

Now here's the best part: You can't outright buy the perks for licensed characters, and BHVR has this really nasty habit of giving licensed characters the best perks(Decisive Strike was meta was 5 years straight), which means that you have to use the shrine system, which is obviously rigged to not give perks away for 1-2 years after the character they came with is released. I'm still waiting for Call of Brine, Floods of Rage, and Terminus to come out, and let me remind you, I've been playing this game for years, but some people just booted up the game for the first time a few hours, which means they'll have to wait a VERY long time before they can use some of the best perks in the game.

This system sucks period. And using the system TF2 uses would be an extremely simple solution, but obviously this is never gonna happen, this is a semi-rant, I know this system is never gonna change, you gotta screw the consumer in some way to keep the people at the top happy, hopefully DBD competitors keep arising until we get a good one to whip this game back into shape.

    Eh...your numbers seem off.

I leveled Vito during the event, and it took me less than a day. P2. Granted, that was with the event bonus, but there's an event running at most times. P1 is...what? A million BP? And you've got some pretty solid base perks on both sides now too, plus the perks of whoever you are playing.

The answer is to make more terrible perks better.

Here's the other thing - yes, some licensed characters are only available for real $. But you don't need their perks to be viable. This is honestly the first time I can remember in ages where the top meta perk for killer is licensed. Before that, it was Ruin+Undying or PR+DMS.

The only sore spot for a lot of people was BBQ.

    • DS was in the shrine constantly though.
    • New players (those grinding up) don't need to be running full meta load-outs. Because their opponents won't be either.
    • Perks pop up in the shrine all the time. I recently snagged one of the few licensed survivor perks I needed from the shrine.
    • A killer/survivor pack costs less than the price of a hamburger and fries. This isn't a loot box situation, you can basically buy them if you need to.

    @Pulsar said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3302619#Comment_3302619

Pretty much why none of my friends will touch DBD.

They have a 1,000 hour grind to get the perks they want ahead of them. Or like $100.

You're exaggerating mate. I've just passed 1000 hours, and I've had all killer perks unlocked and most of the survivor perks I wanted for a while now. For just the perks you want...maybe a few hundred? That was under the old system too. And that's with a lot of different combinations.

$100...yeah, I guess if you're buying every bit of DLC - but one or two packs should cover you for the essentials, if you want to go that route. But chasing meta forever is pointless, because it can turn on a dime.

  • @Pulsar said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3302125#Comment_3302125

There is a certain point where the hour difference isn't impactful anymore.

Like for instance, myself. I've got about 3.5K hours, mostly into Killer. I can win consistently against people with 10K hours. Now, hours don't necessarily equate to skill, but these guys do have the most escapes on Xbox and the other instance I'm thinking of was against Tofu.

And likewise, to your point about mistakes. Most of them can and will turn the game, especially at higher levels of play. Healing when you shouldn't have is a big one.

Maybe? But that's a point where you've essentially mastered this game. 3,500 hours...that's enough to master a lot of things.

At that point, yes - it's really about who makes a mistake first. But this is not representative of the vast, vast majority of players or gameplay. I'd love to see numbers on this, actually - how many people are at the 3000+ hour mark when compared to everyone else.

I have been wanting the write this post for quite some time, since DBD has gone trough alot of changes and they can't seem to balance the game properly. I have played alot of both modes and i genuinely think this game is survivor sided. My main reason first, is you can't do anything on a match. By the time it takes for you to get a down and a hook they rush gens with proves or toolboxes. Even if you try to play defensively and patrol the gens, it won't do as much. Good survivors sometimes tend to solo gen. Imagine you are chasing a survivor, meanwhile the other 3 are alone each one in a gen. Imagine you have pain res, you hook. The gen regresses, you'll check or try to find more survivors. A gen pop. I feel like this type of coordination makes the matches alot harder for killer. Secondly, the current meta feels very unhealthy. I have played some matches and analyzed what perks are meta. So we got:

    SURVIVOR:

Adrenaline- A perk that heals you from downed to injured. From injured to healthy. On top of that speed.

Off The Record- A perk that gives you a free health state for 80 seconds if you don't do any Conspicuous actions.

Prove Thyself- 15% of extra gen speed stackable for each survivor 4 meters close.

Boon Circle Of Healing- Allows self-healing for everyone in the range of 24 meters and increases the healing speed by 50%.

Dead Hard- Endurance for 0.5 seconds.

Lithes- 3 seconds 150% speed after fast vaulting a window.

Sprint Burst- 3 seconds 150% speed when you start to run.

Windows Of Opportunity- Windows, pallets and breakable walls auras in the range of 32 meters.

I don't think necessarily that Windows is a problem, but the rest feels very strong for survivors.

    KILLER:

Eruption- Inflicts the Incapacited status effect for 25 seconds on the gens the killer kicked when a survivor is downed along with a 10% insta regression.

Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance- 15% of insta regression and keeps regressing if not touched.

Call Of Brine- 200% Regression Speed after damaged. You are warned if they perform good skill checks on that map.

Overcharge- Regression speed from 75% to 200% over a course of 30 seconds. Also a skill check that if failed insta regresses 5%. No bonus if you hit the skill check.

I do think that the killer meta isn't healthy, Eruption seems like a massive problem as well. And CoB and Overcharge makes the gens regress very fast. However, i still think with a good team with any of the survivor perks i said above. I think for a killer it's very hard to do anything. I think at the best, you can get a 1 or a 2K. Or yes, if you try to slug alot. You might be lucky and get a 4K. And yes the survivors do have quite some maps on their sides which makes it easier for them. I have mentioned them in a previous post. I don't want to create any drama here, as i said it's my personal opinion based on what i have seen and played at this game. You are free to express your own personal views and opinions.

    Solo < Killer < SWF.

    As it's always been.

Previously, it was more like Solo < Killer <<< SWF. Now it's more like Solo << Killer << SWF.

If you play solo queue, all you will find is stacked killers and bad teammates, it's the nature of the game, if you want to be competitive, then you have to bring the strongest stuff, this means getting a SWF together, or playing Blight/Nurse.

Eh...not really. I've been playing a bit of solo queue recently, and I usually run with either a duo or trio. It's luck of the draw.

One game it'll be a David that goes down almost instantly, then suicides. The next it'll be a Feng that loops the killer for 4 gens and still gets away. Then it'll be a Dwight that does nothing but look for a glyph he needs, before going AFK in a snowman. Then it'll be a Haddie that manages to do 5 unhooks and 3 gens by herself.

However, one thing you come to realize is that so, so much of how things play out on the survivor side of things is determined by the killer and map.

For someone smugly calling a thread discussing a busted perk a "QQ thread", it's ironic you would claim ad hominem about the comments on your demonstrated lack of context but I digress.

Do you genuinely believe that if I'm proxy camping a 3 gen, that I'm doing something bannable? Because if so, you are SORELY mistaken my man.

If you're not making an effort to chase and just stalling, then yes - it's bannable. If you are chasing and downing people, then it's not, and then there is room for counterplay.

And yes, it's a QQ thread. There's nothing constructive at all.

Your title was basically 'eruption is the most OP perk ever in the game' and claiming. You make no effort to suggest how to fix things, or how to balance the perk - you straight up say that you want it completely destroyed and made non-viable.

That's not feedback. That's 'rarr this thing makes me angry so I want it destroyed completely'.

Honestly, remove depipping, and give hooked Survivors BP if the Killer camps, to incentivize staying on the hook as long as possible instead of hook-DCing or feeling the sting of being removed early.

99% of the time the survivors set themselves up for it

This is how I know you're in low MMR, or you have no idea what you're talking about. A killer pressuring an area and forcing the survivors to go work on different gens while protecting a 3-gen isn't "a survivor setting themselves up for it". It's a killer pushing people off their 3-gen.

    bait the killer off

Killers holding a 3-gen won't leave it is the point of a 3-gen.

    use perks

Potential Energy loses all stacks when hit and needs to be set up on a gen before being used (not to mention being only 20% per person), and Prove still needs a time commitment.

    bum rush

This is how you get downed, forcing an Eruption proc and giving killer a hook in 3-gen.

We're talking about staking out a 3gen from the start and never leave it, or actively chasing anyone. Just stalling things out. That's a situation where there is basically no solution - the example Peanits gave was of a Doctor using shocks to do this.

So you're moving goalposts. This whole thread has been about discussing Eruption, and its potential at holding a 3-gen. No one holds a 3-gen while ignoring survivors entirely, and doing so is throwing.

Also - that's such a hilarious false equivalency that I'm honestly not sure if you're being serious or if I'm being baited again. We aren't talking about being cheesy or being tactical. We're talking about holding games hostage.

No, YOU'RE talking about holding games hostage. We're talking about Eruption and how absurd it makes the already absurd and stale 3-gen strat.

Sigh. Nice little ad hom - but I'm talking not only about my own likely intermediate MMR, but watching a variety of streams and videos of higher MMR players, such as JRM, Otz, Ayrun and the CC. They get 3genned sometimes, and they generally bust it pretty fast.

But what the hell, let's try again. Going point by point.

    • Shrug. If he's simply not leaving the area, see what I said earlier. Otherwise...honestly, same.
    • To repeat: if he's staking out a 3gen at the start of the match and literally not leaving the 3gen, chasing etc. then it's a hostage situation. He's not playing the game, he's stalling it out. If he is chasing, then you can have one person leading them off, giving other openings to coordinate and force down gens.
    • If you're getting chased and then downed, then he's not guarding that 3gen.
    • PE requires having a SWF, so you have teammates to run interference. PE is the answer to the 3gens. And this game cannot be balanced around solo queue.
    • Bum rush doesn't mean suicide run. And in this case, everyone can clearly see you and can release. Escalate pressure from multiple angles and over multiple gens.
    • You seem to have discovered a mysterious killer that's simultaneously never leaving a 3gen and chasing people to down them, which is a pretty damn impressive feat. I don't think even Twins can pull this off.
    • No, this thread - if you want to be pedantic - is about how Eruption is literally the most broken perk in the history of the entire game, which people have already explained to you over multiple pages is provably false.
    • Is Eruption a bit much at present? Sure. But let's get real here - if they give it a slight nerf, and make it work on hooking instead of downing, it won't put a dent in this little wall of QQ. So they nerf it to uselessness as per Thana and Ruin, and the forum QQ train just moves onto the next killer perk they lost to. Because that's what always happens.
    • I'm tempted to say - let's give Eruption the damn Dead Hard treatment! Give people a few years to play around it and figure it out, then maybe nerf it. Slightly.
    • Or, rather than making these ridiculously hyperbolic QQ threads, we suggest ways of making the perk a bit easier to counter while keeping it viable. Except we both know - that's not the goal here, is it?
  • @faithfulknight said:

They reassess his addons? Make changes to his power? What will happen? What are they planning?

It'll be at least a year, probably more like two. Twins are up next for a rework and Sadako is going to be adjusted next probably (it's almost certainly just going to be a nerf to the stupid slug build).

Knight needs something though. I've literally seen one since he was released - and he was AFK.

I'm gonna need to see a post by a dev that specifically states that holding a 3-gen is bannable, because that's literally the most common killer strategy at high MMR, and even in tournaments. Survivors are still able to actively progress towards the endgame by working on gens in a 3-gen, meaning the game is, by definition, not held hostage since the other team can make progress. If it's two people left and you're holding a 3-gen, then it's a different scenario.

EDIT: also, abusing game mechanics sounds an awful lot like tunneling (abusing the mechanic that allows a person to die early and leave the other 3 in a near impossible to win situation) and camping (abusing the mechanic that allows killer to wait out someone's hook timer and force a kill).

We aren't talking about 'holding a 3 gen', because that's just tactical and 99% of the time the survivors set themselves up for it. This is a situation with multiple possible counters - bait the killer off, use perks, bum rush etc.

We're talking about staking out a 3gen from the start and never leave it, or actively chasing anyone. Just stalling things out. That's a situation where there is basically no solution - the example Peanits gave was of a Doctor using shocks to do this.

I love your excitement! It's what I've been feeling, I've been so excited to share this information with our players - I know how frustrating solo queue can be for some, I play the game a lot too...it's a feature that I genuinely love!

I CAN'T WAIT FOR YOU ALL TO TRY IT!!

Yes, I'm gonna shout it and nobody can stop me LOL.

It's certainly positive news, but while you are at it - please consider letting people see everyone's perks in lobby. This is the other huge aspect of solo queue that can be frustrating, because there's nothing quite like realizing that one person speaks Mandarin, one Korean, one Hungarian and then we get 3 Kindreds and 4 Circles of Healing.

Taking the game hostage is taking an action that is deliberately preventing the game from advancing in a way that's not defending an objective (aka bodyblocking last person alive in a corner). Camping a 3-gen is a valid strategy, that doesn't ACTIVELY prevent the game from advancing, and is an optimal strategy to protect the objective while the survivors still have a chance to do it. It's idiotic to claim, or even assume, that 3-genning is a bannable offense. By that rationale, using reg perks is bannable because it stalls the game and takes the game hostage.

You'll have to look through the recent Red posts (the old forums had a way to view dev posts, but I can't find it on the new ones - Peanits, if I recall), but they confirmed that staking out a 3gen and not leaving it, or killing anyone to basically force the timer to run out can definitely count as taking the game hostage - pretty recently at that. Because there's no way for the survivors to end it without DCing.

I know you have a personal axe to grind here, but there is a difference between the survivors 3genning themselves and the killer abusing game mechanics to stall things out indefinitely by never leaving or chasing, and instead just holding those gens.

If someone does this, and it's not just a situation of a team 3genning themselves, record and report.

If it's a killer doing this tactically to win, you'll either need to bum rush the 3gen (I literally just won a game in solo queue where a Pyramid Head tried this, and eventually we wore him down) or coordinate with your teammates. If it keeps happening to you, run Potential Energy.

We can't rebalance the entire game because of what is basically an exploit any more than we can do this around solo queue.

  • @Obelt said:

Thanks to Christmas Dwelf we know solo queue buffs and eyrie of crows map rework are on the way.

Veterans of the game know this is the 2nd worst map of the game and hopefully devs take into consideration how to properly balance the map.

    1. Loops are extremely safe and close together to other loops which can be safely chained together with no mind game potential since you can always see the killer.

    2. Map is very big and takes a decent amount of time to travel shrinking the map a slight bit would help both sides

Eh...I'd hesitate to say 'second worst'. Garden is probably the unambiguous worst, but I'd rather see Eyrie than Cowshed or Badham.

    @WeakestNurseMain said:

After what they did to Haddonfield, I'm not sure if the map is gonna get much better, they'll probably just turn the map into a giant wasteland, bereft of pallets and with god loops at every corner.

I really like the Haddonfield rework. It looks amazing, and outside of a few really obnoxious windows, it plays pretty well on both sides.

  • Lootboxes have fallen out of vogue in 2022, it's now season pass stuff for the most part - which DbD has had for a while.

    @itsPina said:

Im somewhat optimistic since this year has been pretty good for DBD but the Knight launch was ######### awful because BHVR cannot make a slightly complicated killer and dead hard is still the best survivor perk in the game. The devs said they didnt like that it was used as a third health state and then literally ######### made it a third health state. Its now in every game I play again

I see it a lot, but I'm okay with it now - you can play around it a lot easier, and it requires a bit of foresight and timing to use correctly, otherwise it does nothing.

Keep in mind that this perk basically dictated the meta for years, and people are just comfortable using it as opposed to SB, Lithe, BL etc.

I definitely see it a lot less than I once did. And that's fine. The goal wasn't to make it terrible, it was to reign it in. Yes, I wish killer perk nerfs were handled more like this, but it is what it is (predicting Eruption is nerfed to Thana levels of uselessness by the end of January).

    @socalfusions said:

Nope the game has a history of poor balance changes, if any, and the gameplay has remained largely the same over the years resulting in very stagnant metas, even with large updates changing multiple perks the overall experience is still the same. They can't even manage to make the cosmetics that interesting and seem hell bent on reintroducing reskins over and over again, overall a dying game in my eyes.

Well, sure. The game is still played the same because it has a fairly rigid set of goals for both sides. That's like saying 'man, the Starcraft 2 meta has remained the same since 2010 because it's still just building a base and units while trying to destroy the other side's base'. Or 'League of Legend's meta has been the same forever because it's still just 'kill enemy heroes and destroy towers'.

The meta, in terms of which perks are used to achieve these goals has changed tremendously. What else do you expect them to change?

I'd say the skins are more creative than ever. Artist, Dredge and Hag all got really fun, crazy stuff in the last few events.

What do you do when a killer is forcing a 3 gen by camping a specific part of the map and not leaving it? If you commit to the 3 gen early enough, you're still at 3-4-5 gens left and you're giving free downs/hook states. If you do the gens, then you're stuck with a 3 gen. I feel like all the people that keep saying "well 3 gen is something you do to yourself" have never played against an actual sweaty killer in high MMR. There's a big difference between 3 genning yourself and dealing with a forced 3 gen.

They are just stalling the game out deliberately to try to hit the timer? You record and report, because it's taking the game hostage. Much as when the last two survivors use the item drop trick to avoid AFK crows and stall the game out by hiding in lockers forever.

Plenty of people have already explained it to you in this thread - most of the time, a 3gen is self inflicted. If a killer is creating a hostage situation, that's another issue - and not one related to balance.

This can be done with a variety of perks, depending on what killer you're playing.

This isn't Boil Over, where the perk itself allows you to troll games. It's just an unfortunate abuse of game mechanics.

Yeah it is? It's the same size as Ormond, both significantly smaller than the larger sized maps like Mother's Dwelling.

Obviously there's the question of if those maps are also too big, but people act as though Eyrie is comparatively very big when it's not really.

'Size' is a tricky term, because Eyrie feels bigger than it is due to the insane density compared to Ormond. Like...Eyrie (and Garden) have that thing where you can chain loop into loop into loop and then back again ad-nauseum.

That said, I'd rather play on Eyrie or Cowshed any day of the week than do another Garden game. Survivors have wised up to how stupid the main structure can be with certain window spawns, including at least one configuration I've seen that is a literal infinite. No idea how this went live.

People really underestimating how powerful these icons are. If you have any game sense it replaces kindred Bond and most other aura reading perks. Knowing what everyone else is doing at all time, for free, across the map informs all of your decision making. You can infer what they're doing even if you can't see them.

And the tired solo queue complaints. So sick of it. They're nothing but the same complaints that any team-based online game gets. People do not do the stuff you want them to do. They never will. It's frustrating but it's endemic to the whole experience and if they did exactly what you wanted they would just be bots and the game wouldn't have a lot of replayability.

Eh...we'll see how it plays out in practice.

I run Empathy pretty much baseline, and probably will keep doing this - because often it's less important to know what people are doing compared to where they are doing it.

I partially agree regarding solo versus SWF, but in the same vein there are a few small things that BHVR could do to improve solo that wouldn't have a huge impact on SWF.

The big one though would be doing something about quitters, which ruin at least a quarter of the games I play.

Saying killer perks get gutted while survivor perks are left viable with Dead Hard/Thana as your example is such a misleading thing to do.

Why not compare Pain Resonance and Iron Will? Or Awakened Awareness and Boil Over? Or Corrupt Intervention and Calm Spirit?

Yes, perks were changed. Some were received better than others. But to make it an Us vs Them thing is gross.

    Because:

    • Iron Will is a poorly designed perk, much like Boil Over. If it's strong enough to be useful, it breaks the game.
    • Calm spirit was never a good perk.
    • Thana was nerfed to worse than it was originally. Also see: Ruin.
    • A good chunk of thread is an 'us versus them' thing already.
    • You cannot argue that most threads complaining about perks are complaining about killer perks. Since the patch, it's been Overcharge, Thana, STBFL, Eruption. Two of which were nerfed into uselessness or near uselessness and one which almost certainly will be. Yes, it gets my back up.

To be honest solo will always be ######### but I think the best solution is a decent chat wheel. "In Chase," "Going For Save," etc. Also give players a reason to play out matches. I know the old ranking system wasn't perfect but it promoted actually playing the game. You can lose and still have a "good" match and rank up and be matched with other people your rank. I know rank doesn't = skill but with how loose the match making is now and how it backfills with completely random skill levels what does it matter.

Eh...ranks are another bag of kittens entirely.

If that's the only change that's happening it's not enough and isn't going to change the solo q experience enough to be worth playing.

The problem is - aside from my often made suggestion to let folks be able to see perks in lobby (which itself will also cause some issues), what can change solo queue without:

    • Balancing SWF and solo differently? The devs have conclusively said they will never consider this.
    • Buffing SWF?

The only thing I can think of, as suggested by someone earlier, is removing kobes completely.

  • @Grandpa_Crack_Pipe said:

Mm. Kobes and hook grabs are two of those 'why on earth are these still in the game?' things.

Kobes almost always just give people an 'I quit but I don't feel like DCing' button, and when they do work can be obnoxious for the killer.

Average (ie, 95% of players) make mistakes. Punish them accordingly.

The Cup games are also legitimate Competitive teams. You DO NOT find those teams out and about. Most of them do not play pubs.

Likewise, that wasn't their assertion. They said that they only played against professionals. Quite simply, they're lying.

    Everyone makes mistakes, sure.

The question is - are those mistakes that can turn the game around? That's a lot less common and extremely contextual.

    • Can you punish it?
    • Will punishing it have a large impact on the game?

My point is that skill is relative. If I was put up against 4x 200 hour survivors, they'd probably lose no matter what map they got, perks they ran or killer I was on.

If those same survivors faced a 50 hour killer, that killer would probably get stomped.

    It's very tricky.

  • @MilkQuEEnV01 said:

i know "competitive dbd is a joke" is a long running sentiment but i've been looking for 3 days and can't find any sort of active comp scene at all besides streamer tournaments and the community cup

It's...not really a game that lends itself well to competitive play, due to the innate 'blind wager' nature of the game - where you can easily lose the game at the selection screen. Thus, most of the attempted tournaments have to use pretty contrived rules in terms of limiting addons, killer selection etc.

That said, BHVR do seem to be leaning into it slightly these days, so it'll be interesting to see what happens in 2023.

    This, pretty much.

    Right....

Eh...it doesn't need to be every match. There's no way to know what sort of survivors you're facing until you've already lost. What I try to do is go in expecting every group to be insanely good, and then dial it back if need be.

Because - if it's a really good team, you're going to need to get someone out ASAP. Watching the recent Cup games, killers tactically camped, slugged and tunneled a fair amount - and they still had a hell of a time of it.

If you play against expert Survivors, sure, you need every advantage because they'll also play to their absolute best.

The simple fact of the matter is that most Survivors aren't good. If mediocre Survivors give you trouble, that's not necessarily on DBD, that might be on you. Obviously, yes, some maps aren't fair for you. Other maps aren't fair for Survivors. That's how it goes.

You don't need to be in four places at once as Killer. If you try to be, you'll lose. You aren't supposed to win at 5 gens. You need strategy and I think many Killers tend to forget that.

Here's the thing though. They don't need to be experts. They just need to be people at your MMR solo, but now in a SWF with a nasty map offering and stacked perks. That will already turn a 'fair' game into a brutal slog that you'll be lucky to get 1k from, unless they make a serious mistake.

of course, a weak bot still contributing to Killer perks would also seem like a good thing other than tactical DCs denying the usage of perks entirely. Especially the hook-count based perks.

    Yeah, I don't disagree.

At the very least, it will let me know what my teammates are doing so I can make the decision on whether or not I need to go for the rescue. It would also let me see how much people are working on gens and if they hardly are, I'll not hit skill checks when I get hooked.

This is one cause for concern - it actively contributing to more quitting.

    Free buff to SWF too.

    The mildest of mild buffs.

Haddonfield is a really iconic map from the Halloween franchise, but It's Impressive how it has always been a pain to play on.

On the old days, it had the most absolutely ridiculous fence loops ever conceived in this game, where the killer had to walk around a building worth of distance just to get to the other side... and the survivor would have changed sides already while clearly seeing where you were.

After many changes, it was still the worst map to play as killer. Many strong pallets and a damn strong main building with god windows.

After it finally got reworked, sure, it's way less unbalanced than it was before, but not because it's good, because it's old versions were some of the worst maps in the history of this game. Now it's fine if you play a killer with anti-loop, it's great for high mobility killers like, you know, Blight... but for m1 killers, who are the weaker ones already, it's a damn nightmare. At any time you're playing on it with either survivor or killer, it's either extremely boring or extremely annoying, because the most of the map is composed by deadzones with extreme visibility that renders stealth powers useless most of the time, while a smaller but still big portion of it is occupied by ridiculously strong buildings.

As a result, the way for survivors to play in chases is just: 1. Spot the killer from far away. 2. Run towards a house, preferably the one on the edge with an infinite, having 3 windows on the bottom floor and two upstairs. 3. Loop the killer there until either you make a big mistake or they give up.

So, a Blight, Nurse, Spirit or Wesker will simply catch up to you before you reach a building, and then they'll have ways of hitting you in the loop too. But Myers, Ghostface, Trapper, Pig and pretty much any other m1 killer will have to slowly catch up by just holding forward, then have to deal with some ridiculous window loop unless the survivor messes up.

The main building itself leaves no options for you to chase survivors. It's a really large house with only two entrances on the bottom floor, on opposite sides and some pretty strong windows, so there's no room for mindgames, no second path to take them by surprise. To make it worse, you will often hear survivors running outside the house but won't be able to follow the noise because there is no way out of the house on that side unless you go upstairs and waste time.

Just to make it worse, Haddonfield also has its hooks really spread apart. It will often take longer to carry survivors there, and the problem of having only one hook available in an area happens a lot.

TL;DR: Current Haddonfield is better than it's pre-rework version, but still extremely unfun to play on, for both sides. The gameplay on it consists on holding W through dead zones outdoors and looping with no counterplay on buildings.

    Eh...

I really like the new Haddonfield on both sides.

Strong structures, but not infinites. Dead zones, but not barren. Some safe gens, some unsafe gens. It's also gorgeous. Just...dripping with atmosphere, some of the best visual design work the devs have ever done.

It could be tweaked a bit, to make some of the more evil window spawns a little more reasonable, and maybe adding a pallet or two in the middle to compensate, but it's like Yamaoka. I'm never sad to go there.

I mean we really just need bots to replace DCer's and that's probably all that can be done for soloQ as a whole besides the new info symbols. The rest of the problems is user error, you can't fix stupid and honestly if soloQ is strong enough for bad players to win that's probably too strong.

This, right here, would be one of the most positive changes that DbD has ever or will ever see.

The problem is that man, it would be tricky to execute, as other games that have tried this realized.

You can't make the bots too good, otherwise a player DCing will actually make teams stronger at times. A bot capable of giving a 4000 hour killer a decent run is going to be hilarious against a 50 hour killer and could well hard-carry teams.

On the other hand, a weak bot might be worse than missing a player - STBFL stacks, Surge, Devour, PWYF, bodyblocking people in chase...yeah.

Still though, man it would be great.

What I'd probably like to see in conjunction is a simple change to the way DC penalties work. Rather than just going to get a drink, to make it decay, you'd need to play out a certain number of matches without DCing.

This is how most other games handle quitters.

I'm more curious if anyone knows anything more than I do about what's coming in 2023 besides what's on the roadmap, icons and lunar event. I've heard rumors the next chapter is licensed but it's just a rumor.

Reasons to be optimistic for the future just like the OP says.

Okay. Let's change this up a bit, because clearly nothing people are posting is what you'd describe as something worth looking forward to.

What would you like to see announced for DbD that would make you optimistic about it?

nah the game is far from balanced. They have only given the killer side of the player base any real improvements.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3301170#Comment_3301170

all killer buffs on that list.

Apart from these two absolute banger useless comments there's no icon or commination for survivors and nothing additional in the game to make it challenging. The devs wanted 60+% win rate for killers and I suspect its getting closer to 70% 4K's. Theres nothing new added to the game in the sense that it gives another objective or second chance. We had 4-5m games at the mid part of the year. Good luck being optimistic devs are very deaf.

    Ahahaha what?

    Survivors have gotten:

    • Baseline BT.
    • Off the Record.
    • Baseline BT further buffed.
    • Status icons incoming.
    • Slugging changes announced.
    • Hyperfocus (solid perk)
    • Fogwise (insane perk)
    • Potential Energy (utterly broken perk in SWF)
    • Garden of Joy - probably the most absurdly safe map in the game, including old Haddonfield.
    • Dark sense buffed, actually worth using now.
    • Deja Vu buffed (uh...people are sleeping on this monster of a perk).
    • Distortion buffed, now sees usage even at top MMRs.
    • Hope buffed.
    • Lucky Break buffed, now pretty crazy if you use it right.
    • Lightweight buffed.
    • No One Left Behind Buffed.
    • Overzealous buffed out the wazoo, another perk people are sleeping on.
    • Sole Survivor buffed.

I could go on, but this is already a skyscraper of text.

There has never been any reason to be particularly optimistic or pessimistic. The game is the same as it always is, one step forward, one step back.

I've been playing for...almost 3 years now, by my reckoning.

This game is so much better than when I started it's almost unrecognizable.

I mean, I think back to when I started, how busted maps were, how stupid keys and moris were, how every match was against almost literally the same perks, killer or survivor, how almost every map had spots where you could be unhittable or unpickup-able...man.

    Then things got better.

After that, MMR made the game far more balanced than ranks were, some really great map reworks, a whole ton of new perks and killers...DbD is still far from perfect, but it's steadily improving.

More like 5 steps forward, two steps sideways, one step back.
