The thing is that the 40% kill rate vs swf is balanced by the 80% kill rate vs solo, because solo is about 50% of the matches.
Also, the TO said the game is survivor sided, which includes those solo survivors.
I totaly agree with you, that the game is swf-sided, but vs solo, the killer has clearly the upper hand.
My killer games are actually very binary, where i either stomp the survivors, or get stomped by them. In my matches, there is nearly no middle ground.
And while you might focus on killer vs swf, the devs shouldnt, because solo is half the survivor player base.
Yes, IF they get solos on a comparable level with swf, then killers should be buffed, not nerfed. However, i doubt that will really happen. They might close the gap a little, but maybe not enough to warrent a killer buff.
The only way i see it is a competitive vs casual (but thats marketing, what i want is swf and solo queue) with different balancing, so both queues could have about the same kill/escape rate, and thus, killers would have no problem with swf or solo.
You could also balance the competetive (swf) queue around 60% killrate, and the solo queue around 50%, giving killers an incentive to take on swfs.
You cannot balance around solo though, because then you're basically flipping killers the bird so long as SWFs are in the game.
Think of it this way.
There are 2 match ups. SWF versus killer and solo versus killer.
Killers cannot choose to not face SWF.
Survivors can choose to group up in an SWF.
You balance around SWF, then try to drag solos up closer to their level. That's...literally the only fair choice here.
Yes, this game is binary - because it's incredibly snowbally. But that's another discussion.
You also can't move SWF to a different queue, or else we'll just be back to endless lobby dodges until folks get matched together - which is what SWF was added in to avoid. Because what people are after isn't really playing with their chums - it's an advantage.
@RaccoonInATrenchCoat said:
You mean the meta where you do nothing but patrol a 3 gen with four gen slowdowns, than disproportionately makes soloqueue miserable, that is the worst meta we've ever seen.. okay lol.
If this is a "survivor op, wahh" even at the top now, the competitive level that plays for money, typically plays a variety of killers (Dredge, recently!) And usually ends in 2+ kills. Survivor isnt as strong as you think, and not everyone is begging for "every slowdown to get nerfed" most soloqueue just want eruption to be changed so you're not doing nothing for 30 seconds every time you're hit, and a more healthy meta that rewards being good at the game and not babysitting a 3 gen.
Survivor complaints are valid, while killer complaints are 'wahh'. Gotcha.
The 3gen hostage strat is a different scenario - and a really fringe one, as you're basically just trying to run out the clock or forcing folks to DC. It's like when the last pair of survivors abuse the (redacted thing) to avoid AFK crows and hide in a locker to force the killer to DC. Both are problems, both should be bannable, but again - different discussion. And not really one about balance so much as the way the objective interacts with certain killer powers. It's closer in spirit to walling people into the poop room on The Game.
And...uh, I'm not sure you read up about that tournament. Because if you're talking about the Cup, they literally gave the killer an option of four killers to play. One of those options was Dredge, one of those options was Pig. And that Dredge game was very, very nearly a loss - with strict restrictions on what the survivors could bring...on Midwich.
Now imagine those same four survivors without any restrictions, versus Dredge on the Infinite MS Garden of Joy.
Also - before Eruption it was STBFL. Before STBFL, it was PR. Before PR, it was Ruin. Yes, whatever the current killer meta is will get complained about - because it's much easier to blame the killer or the build for a loss.

Are you citing self reported stats by a small subset of the player base? Because that's not much more useful than my anecdotal experience (and who says I'm even playing against those people? I know I'm not high MMR). I absolutely see it in way more than 1 out of 5 games.
Surely you'd expect to see meta...more at higher MMR?
And - I swear there's a name for that fallacy, but don't attack the only available stats unless you can provide more accurate ones.

Then nobody is using meta perks
Define 'meta perks' for survivors?
Because it's certainly not the most used. OoO was the SWF meta for a good while, and I don't think that was ever 'highly used'. And I don't think I'd describe Self Care or WoO as 'meta'.
About the closest you'd get to meta for survivor perks was pre-rework Dead Hard. The gen blowing up SWF build is...more of a gimmick. Like Tombstone Myers or Condemn Sadako.
It doesn't mean it's not a problem.

And you can also lose all that energy and time you spent doing it if you get hit. Trash perk.
It's a trash perk in solo.
It's a god perk in SWF, ditto Fogwise.
I'd have to find the video, but a duo did a gen in about 6 seconds with a gimmick build revolving around PE. PE is nuts.

A lot of people don't understand getting that time in a faraway corner gen is a lot easier than trying to do it on a tight 3 gen. Not all gens are the same.
Bingo.
You need a team to pull it off right, but you don't charge it up on the final gens. You charge it up on an earlier gen, then have people pop their gens, then blow up the final gen.

Funny, i reduced playing (solo)survivor and play way more killer, because i feel its less stressfull...
Also i dont run slowdown perks, but i got a killer i feel really good with and manage to get good results.
But to be fair, my games are very binary, i either stomp the survivors for a 3/4k with 1-3 gens left, or i get stomped with 4-6 hooks, depending on swf, map, and rng (my mainkiller is dredge, and he depends very much on locker placement around the map).
Killer is stressful.
Solo survivor is just...depressing.

Can you explain how a 60%+ killrate is survivor sided? On what kill rate would you see the game as balanced?
Yeah...so.
Those kill rates don't include games where a survivor suicides or AFKs, and I see a survivor kill themselves on hook in at least a quarter of my games (and watching high MMR streamers, it's about the same). So that's 4 guaranteed kills right there in maybe a quarter of games. They also don't indicate which games are against SWFs (what the game should be balanced around) and solo players - but we know that SWFs escape maybe 15% more?
Suddenly, that 60% is more like 40%, if we focus on SWF games without a quitter.
It's also almost certainly going to go down quite a bit next time, with a new meta starting to emerge in SWFs, some batty new perks added (Fogwise is prenerf OoO levels of absolutely broken in SWF), Eruption and CoB almost certainly getting nerfed due to the endless wall of forum QQ - and we don't know what effect the status icons are going to have either.
Personally? I don't care about gross kill rates. I care about kill rates in SWF versus Killer, especially on broken maps like Garden of Joy (did...nobody realize that the main structure could be an actual infinite with the right window spawns on an already strong map?). And if BHVR do accomplish their goal of getting solo close to the level of SWF, then yeah - something is going to have to give.

If you're crashing when performing a specific action, you'll need to file a bug report. What action is it?
And yes, you get a penalty for DCing from the game - which honestly should be higher, as there are too many people who still DC deliberately.

Can someone answer why the devs added +10 gens if they were going to add OP crap like this perk combo?? The added +10 did nothing and I'd argue gens are even faster then they were before. They completely gutted Thanatophobia and Ruin and you've got stuff like this in the game? They also didnt touch prove thyself. Wow I wonder why so many killers are running Eruption, Brine, Overcharge meta because these speed up gen perks are pure cheese and you still got prove thyself which tons of people are bringing on top of it.
I think they seriously need to stop adding regression perks and speed up perks at this point and start focusing on these maps and look into why gen perks are being used on both sides. I have been unable to consistently have fun games of killer tonight because of the speed of the gens. Every game someone has prove thyself or toolboxes with BNP. And if they aren't using that they've got Hyperfocus/Stake out or something else. I'm literally resorting to knock out builds and leaving people on the floor to try and slow the game down which is somehow working a little bit. You get little to nothing out of hooking people because you can count on a gen popping as your bringing someone to a hook. Deadlock is a 100% must in every build I use now. It's frustrating, boring, and lame. I love this game but am so sick of this massive flaw that's been in it forever. You play killer you feel like you have to be at 4 places at once to apply enough pressure to stop them from finishing! I used to play killer most of the time but as of recently I'd say I played survivor 75% of the time because it's less stressful and doesn't feel as bad when you lose.
Stake Out, Potential Energy, PTS, Fogwise and Deja Vu are all a little silly, as - especially against an organized squad - they can melt gens faster than you can kill them whilst also knowing exactly where you are.
@brokedownpalace said:
I see Eruption in 90% of my games and Stake Out and/or Hyperfocus in maybe 1% lol. They are not even remotely comparable problems.
Eruption has a pick rate of 18-20%. Bull to 90%.
Also - something having a high pick rate is not, in and of itself, an indication of a problem. Self Care had a ridiculously high pick rate.
@Kaiju said:
Hyperfocus by itself is fine, Stake Out is kinda the issue. For one increasing the bonus of HF and correcting non-greats.
But yeah, Is not like this is run every game unlike the other 2 slowdowns u see pretty much on everyone.
Killers run a lot of regression, because A. Against a team that knows what they are doing, you simply do not have enough time to kill them all before they explode the gens and B. aside from some info perks, killers don't have many universally useful perks that aren't regression. I mean...STBFL can be good on some killers and one or two can use Starstruck well, but outside of that it's all pretty meh.
Had a game a few days ago on Ghostface/The Game that I wish I had recorded, because it was fascinating.
I had almost no downtime - stalk, chase, pallet, down, hook, stalk, chase, pallet, down, hook - and I was at 0 gens before I'd gotten 6 hooks. Just running Surge didn't cut it, the only way I could have won is if I'd either hard tunneled someone out early (I don't like doing that) or brought substantially more regression, preferably Eruption. The second I was away from a gen, two of them were back on it. They were barely even trying to evade me - run me a bit, go down, because in the time I took to hook someone, I'd lose a gen.
They had:
Deja Vu.
PTS x2.
BNP x3.
Hyperfocus.
Stakeout x2.
Fogwise x2 (which didn't even help them much against Ghosty).
Game lasted around 7 minutes, and a good portion of that was me defending gates. Ended with 2 hooks on 3 people, 1 hook on 1 person and got told to uninstall in postgame.
@Rudjohns said:
Nobody uses Hyperfocus
You're starting to see it more, as a new SWF meta emerges. Hyperfocus, PTS, Stakeout, often Potential Energy to break a 3gen or destroy the last gen.
@Aven_Fallen said:

I mean, this would be a reason why Eruption made it into the game. They clearly did nto playtest it (or at least not enough).
@Topic:
Seriously? People STILL complain about Hyperfocus/Stake Out? I have not seen any of those Perks in my games for weeks. Because they are not good enough to be used.
Hyperfocus/Stake Out was decent when you encountered Wesker in 9 out of 10 games and when those 9 out of 10 games happened on RPD. Killer with big Terror Radius + small Map = many Stake Out-Stacks to protect the Hyperfocus-Stacks.
Whenever you did not end up against Wesker and on RPD, it did not do much. And since both variables are not as common anymore (RPD is back to normal in the rotation, not everyone runs Wesker anymore), you get less value out of Stake Out and utlimately Hyperfocus.
Maybe dont rush to the Forums when you just lost a game and have seen the 1 in 100 chance that someone actually runs this combo...
Eh...here's the thing.
Any smallish map will do. It works even better on The Game. And a SWF running this sort of 'blow up the gens before they can kill us' build will send you to DDS, Midwich, RPD or The Game.
Outside of tunneling or hard regression, I haven't found an answer to this.

Do you lose items and offerings when the killer DC's? I thought they fixed that ages ago. Honestly I havn't even noticed because I don't usually run items and just BP offerings. I have 100's of toolboxes.
The Less BP, and wasted time is miniscule though. If it's halfway through the game, great you made it halfway through and won the whole game - move on to the next, you still got to play that whole time and most likely were enjoying it. You still get the BP you did earn. If it's at the start of the match, wow you lost like 2-3 minutes. Get in another match the matchmaking is so good now you won't be waiting longer than 4 minutes.
These reasons you mention seem frivolous. Especially compared to forcing a person to deal with 10-15 minutes of a bad time in a game they've paid for.
AFAIK, it depends on how long the game is. If they DC at the loading screen or right after the match starts, you keep them.
If they DC a few minutes into the game, you lose them.
But don't quote me on this, I'll have to check.

It was WAY worse way back when.
True - but some of that (perhaps a lot of that) is more mechanical changes to the game rather than changes within the community. A big fix was removing most of the 'haha you can't pick me up from this spot so I'm just going to run over here and stand still whenever you chase me' areas.

Gene repair duration to 100-110 sec (or higher, you have to see what the right amount is), increase standard heal speed to 20 sec, nerf items, med kits last 32 sec for a whole heal (yes, med kits are much too strong with 16 sec self-healing) and much more ...
HUH? and where please does that help the solo q? now comes the point, killers have a lot more time and are not more under high pressure just because it's a swf, so here comes an "action buff" for everyone who enters the queue alone (i.e. solo), here too you have to look and be played with the numbers, 10% faster gen speed 20% faster heal speed
that would also motivate people to play solo q again without getting frustrated, or rather look for a swf or play killer "everything but no solo q because that's the worst way to play dbd" or let it be dbd altogether , which is also understandable to leave dbd behind, because after bhvr has waited so long with any answer, a lot of people have left the solo q almost only beginners and some people who have no idea about dbd (these are most of the high mmr players at the moment )
Eh...
The answer is:
- Rework maps. Right now, the difference between a victory and a crushing loss often comes down to the map.
- Give solos those status icons and the ability to see perks in the lobby beforehand.
- Reduce quitting behavior, which is probably the #1 thing that makes solo queue a nightmare.

1.) Remove the 4%-Option, instead, make Deliverance able to use in 2nd stage too
2.) Disable the "leave match"-option. If u use task manager then, youll receive a 15min penalty
Problem: In SWF, Gens would go faster, because no one has to leave his gen for the rescue anymore.
So if someone uses it, Gens are blocked afterwards or anything. Its kinda hard to find a solution.
Nah. Because sometimes I get crashes and need to use task manager.
I'd say:
- Remove self unhooks completely, outside of deliverance. Rework luck perks.
- DC penalty only decays when you successfully finish matches without DCing.

I'd have to dig up the list, but the only killer that really seems to be struggling now is Demo, and that's probably because Shred didn't get the attack cooldown change in 6.1.0, because abandoned killer.

Yes, really. Kill rates are up pretty substantially across the board.

You got your feelings hurt by trolls and decided to take it out on the next person/people? If your ego is being hurt in a video game, maybe you should take some time to meditate. You brought a flan to a match, not knowing who your opponents are. You ran into a bad batch. Finish it and move on. Doesn't sound like that's helping anything but creating a chain of bad behaviors by giving the next group of possibility innocent survivors a bad time.
The original topic was that the OP doesn't want to be slugged for 4 minutes because the killer doesn't want last survivor to have a chance at hatch. We want to fix the issue because hatch is a mechanic in the game. Some killers are making it their objective to eliminate that mechanic for ego. Heck, I think you can still 4k even with the last survivor getting hatch? Not exactly sure how all that is calculated.
If hatch has to go, then so be it but I doubt it will change survivors playing hide and seek. I, personally, would like a give up option when down to the last 2 survivors. Chances of escaping through gate are pretty low so at that point, I would rather go to the next match then wait and see what the killer will do. If it's all about points, then give the killer sacrifice points for the white flag and so both sides will be happy.
Gah, we get to do this again.
'You got your feelings hurt' is a deliberately loaded term - you're basically calling someone oversensitive. Rather than focusing on bad behavior from the original culprits, you're shifting the blame to the people who they set out to annoy...for getting annoyed at annoying behavior. This isn't someone being offended by something innocuous - you know that when you gloat at someone, you're deliberately trying to get under their skin. If you succeed - it's not their fault, it's yours.
This is a very normal, human response - if someone does something kind and is abused for it, they will be less likely to be kind in the future. I can guarantee you that if people thanked the killer for giving hatch, rather than turning it into an 'har har I win you lose uninstall' opportunity, it would happen a hell of a lot more.
Yes, a 'concede' button would be great on both sides.

Whenever i play on Badham i just wanna kill myself. Let's start off with the main building. It's terrible. There's usually one really safe pallet upstairs, and one other really safe pallet downstairs. In some RNG's. There's 2 underground gens. One in the main building, and another in a house with another safe pallet, 2 stairs and a totem. In case you guys aren't recognizing. When you get out of the main building by the front opening. There's one car pallet, a powerful window. That slows the killer a bit rounding it. Along with another car pallet. Just the main building with the outside is a very powerful area. There's also usually another very powerful house. with a gen that only one person can repair. 2 windows upstairs, and a pallet that is very hard to mindgame in the room. Downstairs i think there's around 2 or 3 really safe windows. Which makes it a very strong bulding as well which can waste the killer's time. There's usually a shack as well. It's very hard to speak for all the maps cause there's like 5 versions of it and i think the best one is the first. It has the main building, a shack, the one powerful window i think. And the pallets. I don't think that version is that bad. But for sure the others and this map in general is awful. Painful, disgusting and absolute pain to play in it as a killer.
Yeah, Badham is a horrible map - it's really ugly, looks and feels massively outdated and has some tooth-grindingly annoying loops and structures, including a main structure that can be unhookable.
That said, it still plays second fiddle to Garden of Joy in terms of horrible design. Did...nobody really spot that a map with a ton of safety all over the place and virtually no deadzones probably doesn't need a literal infinite in the main structure?

The DBD community is full of some of the most toxic people that you'll ever have the misfortune of playing against. They're not all like that of course, but it's far too common to experience toxicity than a pleasant gaming experience.
That being said, it sounds like you're new to the game. If so, then I can't recommend the bots enough. SBMM isn't nearly as accurate as we're led to believe, which is why playing against the bots is the best overdue training tool that DBD has ever seen. Spend time polishing your skills there before playing against other people. Hell, I play against them all the time since I'm guaranteed to not experience any toxicity, and at some point we'll be able to equip them with perks too, and when that day comes I'll never play on live servers again unless I need blood points.
This game is also almost designed to be annoying, with how snowbally it can be and how stupidly easy it is to depip or wind up having complete 'waste of time' games as survivor, when you get downed first and facecamped by a Ghostface running LP. I can either suicide and basically kill my entire team, or stick it out and waste my time with almost no BP and then depip.
A few matches like that, and I can feel myself getting irritable. And I'm usually very mellow.
Killer is the same.
Do well or play hard? People will suicide or DC just to deny you BP and emblems.
Do badly or play chill? Get ready to have people literally post on your Steam wall to tell you how much you suck and why you're too cowardly to stay around and get gloated at in postgame.
Dead by Daylight is a toxicity generating machine.

The Basic Premise
When a survivor brings an "Item" they no longer start the trial with their "Item" & instead starts the match with a "Personalized Key".
For every Item brought,a Locked Chest spawns in the Basement & these "Locked Chest" can & will only be opened with the Personalized Key.
After the Locked Chest is opened with a Personalized Key,the Key is consumed & then the Survivor gets the Item.
If a Personalized Key is dropped, only the Owner can pick it up.
It's...huh. Actually an interesting idea. Would need some fleshing out, but it definitely helps with the ridiculous 'I got a bad first chase and lost 3 gens' moments.

The fact that this is STILL an issue that bhvr tried to sweep under the rug and did nothing about should be illegal.
I think it's a problem on consoles, XBox specifically due to something something recently played...I forget. Haven't really heard much about it on PC or PlayStation.
Still, it's something you'll need to talk to your ISP about. I had an experience with a DDOSer in Starcraft 2, and my ISP set me up with a higher bandwidth, a dynamic IP and an apology. This was in Japan, so YMMV.

Just a spectacularly bad idea, with how unpleasant postgame chat can be already.

Huh? Thought point of killer was to sacrifice survivors to entity? You taking it to the extreme because you want nobody to even have a chance at escaping is your choice. Just because escaping from hatch doesn't affect MMR doesn't change the fact that it's still a mechanic in the game meant to give survivors a feeling of satisfaction. Do you have any resources stating that devs think hatch system is stupid or are you just making assumptions based on the mmr?
Anyways, justify however you want for killers to get their 4k. The uncommon occurrences of survivors getting the hatch isn't going to stop killers getting Iri 1. At the end of the day, it's just a game. Not killing every survivor in every match hurts nothing but your ego.
Ego matters sometimes. Because people are people.
For instance - the other day I fired up a meme Demogorgon build and a flan to drop in and have some fun. Ran slap bang into a terrifyingly strong SWF who I'm convinced had smurfed their MMR down, spanked me raw and called me names in postgame.
I've also had survivors straight up cuss me out in postgame *for letting them go* in a blowout game with a super early DC.
And that's before the...probably hundreds of times I've been insulted and gloated at postgame by the person I gave hatch to. It's like...did you want me to down you and carry you to the thing to prove I gave it to you?
After a few games like that, I promise you that most folks are not going to be in a particularly merciful mood. And I don't think that's their fault.

I played both killer and survivor today. Survivor side was way too easy and when I played killer, I barely got one kill. Why? Maybe I am not that great at dbd however I say survivors need a lot of their tools nerfed. They will whine and cry but seriously they have way too much right now. I went against multiple squads today some I went against twice because I recognized both of their names and all it was flashlights, dead hard, looping, boons, Windows of opportunity, saboteur and stuff just to make a killer's life hell. None of the games were fun. One guy messaged saying GG EZ so I responded gg to be respectful even though I was very upset with no hooks trying to run a dredge blindness build. He then proceeded to tell me that I need to get good and that I suck. I got very angry but didn't respond anymore. My biggest issue is the whole excuse of GeTtInG gOoD. If you make a mistake all people will tell you is get good. How does that help? Tell me how to outplay looping when the person has a flashlight, Windows of opportunity, Lithe, Dead Hard, and everyone else is popping gens with Prove Thyself, hyperfocus, and potential energy. (Seriously what I went against today TWICE) So I decided that I would do a meta build with Knight and Gen defense which I got put and Springwood (Worst map in the game btw) and proceeded to get looped to infinity and the last three gens were too far away with 2 of them being in basements of different buildings. I then proceeded to get teabagged and mocked in the endgame chat. I got frustrated and walked away. I used the build that EVERY survivor complains about. COB, Eruption, Overcharge, Oppression and still couldn't win yet the survivors were Eruption is too strong and you can't do anything about it. I am writing this while angry so I might respond later while I am calmer but if they nerf Eruption and gen defense THEY BETTER NERF GEN RUSHING. Survivors themselves need nerfs to gen speeds, pallet locations, item abuse, etc. This game is way too survivor sided and the survivors complain about any little thing that happens to them. I don't want anyone telling me to GET GOOD when they have all this help. I will probably come back later after I have breathed but seriously I do not like survivors right now
Killer has never been a stronger role than right now.
I play both roles (I'd say about 60/40 favoring killer) and the 6.1.0 patch was a massive killer buff.
There are a few things that probably do need to be fixed - Garden of Joy main structure is bullpoop on toast, some of the 'faster gen' perks can be a bit much, Fogwise is ridiculously OP in SWFs (it's almost as bonkers as prenerf OoO) and some of the crappier killers still need some buffing/reworks.
However, right now the balance focus seems to be on trying to help out solo survivor, which is a miserable experience at present - and I'm...broadly okay with that. For now.
And yes, this game seriously needs a jerk fumigation - but sadly, the devs seem to have an attitude towards toxicity that basically reads as 'it's an important part of online gaming'. Ugh. Just...turn postgame chat off and keep it off. If you've got something to say and it was a fun game, turn it back on. Then turn it back off.
Also - if you have a public Steam profile, use Anonymous mode. Trust me on this.

But Solo would still be too weak. This buff doesn't close the gap between SWF and Solo, it's just a general buff to Survivor. That's why the callouts was such a good idea because it still left it up to the players to share information. SWF get's stronger, Killer get's tweaked to compensate, and Solo survivor still struggles because they messed up their chance to close the gap.
We'll see.
The balance used to be Solo << Killer <<< SWF.
Then it became more like Solo <<< Killer << SWF.
If this makes it Solo << Killer << SWF, that's positive. If it's a small buff to SWFs, we can figure that out post hoc.
This, aside from letting folks see perks before the match, and maybe reducing quitting is also about the extent of what I can think of to help solos. Yes, I suppose you could do native voicechat, but that's a Pandora's Box I don't think BHVR want to open.

I rarely get DC's, the only one I had in the past few days was when I was playing Bubba and I hooked a survivor in the basement lol
I had zero intention of camping and immediately pursued the survivors far away I saw on BBQ but they still quit as I guess they just expected the usual boring Bubba thing

That's amazing.
I'm one of the nicest killers you are likely to meet, and the second I get an early down or someone tries something silly and fails, they'll either DC or suicide.

My biggest issue with it is that with all these "balance changes" and keep making Survivor easier. Identity V is starting to look more like a horror game than Dead by Daylight. Dead by Daylight already feels like a parody joke game based off the Scary Movie series, and they just keep giving Survivors more free information to make it less scary.
Let's be honest here - Dead by Daylight was never a horror game.
It's impossible for something to be scary when you can dress yourself up like The Electric Cowboy and teabag your way around the map. It's a vaguely horror themed APVP game. It's like calling Evolve a 'Sci-Fi' game.
Difficulty is a tricky thing. I'd say that this makes the game easier in the right way. Easier to pick up, and especially easier for new players without a stable group to play with. It's still an astonishingly complex game at the higher ends of play.
It reminds me of when Starcraft 2 did the automatic worker splitting thing in a patch, because it was a really fiddly bit of micro you had to do at the start of every game, and messing it up would set you pretty far behind someone who did it perfectly. People complained that it was 'dumbing down the game' but all it was doing is lowering the barrier for entry slightly.
I have...no problem with that. Again, if this does somehow amp up SWFs more, then we can tweak killers a bit to compensate.
-
@Sycamore said:

That's the point. Now players no longer have to share general information. They can fill that time with sharing location information.
There is still a gap between Solo and SWF, and SWF just got a lot more powerful in a game where every second counts.
Shrug. If it throws kill rates off, then they'll tweak something - as BHVR were happy with post 6.1.0 kill rates.
Still, I don't think that it'll be at all a major buff. And getting solos and SWF closer together also makes the killer role a lot easier to buff.

As a pure survivor main, trying to do killer challenges for the tomes/rifts has been an absolutely miserable experience. I've tried following guides, playing suggested killers, using 'meta' perk builds, but my experience has been so terrible and has only pushed me to just not play. I consistently get matched with survivors who clearly know what they're doing when I don't, and they can clearly see it and choose to taunt me the entire rest of the match. It feels impossible to learn and improve when I'm just constantly outmatched no matter who I play or how I play, and I really don't want to get turned off from ever trying again. How did any of you deal with this if you experienced it? How did you get out of this 'impossible' rut and begin to improve and learn? How did you deal with just trying to play normally when more skilled/knowledgeable players were purposefully taunting you? ;_;
Ooh, fun question as I was in the exact opposite position earlier this year - about a year as a pure killer main, starting to learn survivor.
A few things to get you started.
- You'll have to get used to the abuse and gloating. It sucks, but eventually you'll just go numb. Yes, this game needs a jerk fumigation.
- Killer is a weird role after playing survivor, because it's all on you.
- Get a few core perks together early, you might have some already. Discordance is a fantastic perk to grab, and Legion are a decent killer to learn on.
- Which killer(s) are you looking to play to start? Forget 'suggested' killers - figure out the killer you most like playing (for me it was Hag) and work on learning that killer in and out initially.
- Forget meta for now. Find perks that work for you. I like to run info and lethality. About the only 'must' is having at least 1, possibly 2 regression perks.
- Another reason to avoid heavy meta perks is that, especially for killers, these tend to get nerfed.
- That said, if I was to put together a build that works for almost every killer I play, it would be: Lethal Pursuer, Nowhere to Hide, Save The Best For Last -OR- Discordance, Call of Brine -OR- Jolt (on Hag or instadown killers).
- If I had to put together a build based on killer base perks and my own killer perks, I'd play Legion with Discordance, Jolt, Fearmonger and Iron Maiden.
- Another alternative would be Doctor with Whispers, Sloppy Butcher, Fearmonger and Overcharge.
- As a new killer, info info info info INFO. Perks to tell you where survivors are and what they are doing will get you further than anything else and also help you get a feel for how they move.
- As a new killer, don't focus on killing folks too much - your MMR is volatile, and a few 4ks are going to have you thrown up against much nastier opponents. Focus on learning and getting a feel for the role.
- Disable postgame chat and never, ever turn it back on.
- I'd also strongly suggest running anonymous mode if you have a public Steam profile. Trust me on this.
- Remember - your FOV is tiny. As you move, sweep your vision around and occasionally 'Crazy Ivan' - suddenly walk backwards and look behind you. You'll be amazed at how many people you catch like this.
- Killer is honestly a bit easier than survivor to start, as your goals are a lot clearer and you aren't as dependent on team coordination. It's why I still prefer the role - you won't lose games because a teammate had an archive to do.
- Killer MMR, if you're new to it, can be a bit wonky. From what I understand, you get about 5 matches at a 'protected' MMR with other newbies, and are assessed a starting MMR. If you win those initial matches, you'll probably get put at an 'intermediate' MMR, meaning you'll need to take some losses. Eventually you'll settle at the 'right' MMR.
- You're a survivor main, so use that. You should be able to anticipate how survivors run loops, for instance - head them off or disrupt the loop.
- Try to avoid camping, as you won't really learn anything.
- Ditto running NOED - you'll get kills in games where you shouldn't, and artificially inflate your MMR.
- Killer is a very reactive role, in that you're trying to prevent survivors from completing their goal (generators).
- At the start of the match, head to the furthest gen from you, along the side of the map (survivors love the borders). If you still don't see anyone, head to the gen closest to the nearest gate. I'll guarantee that in 90% of your matches you'll find someone fast doing this.
- Focus on learning the fundamentals - tracking (especially after a hit), counter looping, chasing, the ins and outs of your killer power, herding survivors away from nasty loops and main structures.
- Always take free hits. So, so often people will try to get fancy, bodyblocking, sabo-ing in your face, risky saves etc. When survivors make a mistake, capitalize on it. Don't be afraid to drop a slug and down someone else.
- Similarly, a survivor that's teabagging, trying for a save, doing a side objective or trying to bait you into a chase near a strong area isn't doing gens.
- As a new killer, the survivors to fear aren't the ones that are good at looping. It's the ones who are good at hiding, and sit on gens.
- If a survivor is trying to bait you into a chase is a survivor worth chasing for a second or two, then breaking off and going for someone else. It drives them crazy and often they'll follow you trying to get your attention. They're not doing gens - don't interrupt your opponent when they are making a mistake.
- Don't be afraid to break off a bad chase, especially on a killer with rapid map traversal.
- Remember the golden rule - if there are 4 survivors alive after 3 gens are completed, you're in for a rough time. If there are 4 survivors alive after 4 gens are completed, you've probably lost. Don't tunnel, but if you have the option of chasing someone with 2 hooks and someone with 0, eliminate the 2 hooks guy.
- Try to chase multiple survivors. A survivor in chase, healing, unhooking etc. isn't doing gens.
- Sometimes the best way to counter a loop - find a spot where you can't be seen in that loop (shack especially), stop, turn around so your red light won't be visible, count to 3 and start moving around the other way. Small killers or undetectable killers are amazing for this.
- As with most things - keep at it and try to have fun.

I don't really want to just sit there and farm, I still want to chase and get hooks etc. I am just more than happy to let two or even all of them go at the end.
I agree with StarLost (though I cant @ them or quote their comment for some reason) that if you realise you are going to stomp then ease back a bit and even if I intend to get Merciless I will chill out a bit and let everyone get saves and 3 hooks each.
Yeah, that's what I try to do. I don't want to farm or waste time, but I will let folks heal, I'll try to 2hook everyone before killing them and maybe let them finish a few gens before I end it.
It grinds my gears though that I still get DC's and quitters in almost 1/3 of my matches.

@MaTtRoSiTy said:
You would think with it being xmas people playing killer would be a bit more chill but holy hell the games have been rough in solo queue today, at least where I am.
Killers sweating from the second the match starts with slugging camping and tunnelling off hook even at 5 gens. Or just running the sweatiest builds imaginable to the point random team mates pretty much just give up.
I feel the game is having the fun sucked out of it and its getting really hard to find enjoyment with the current meta. Hopefully they can address some of these issues asap in the new year!
Killers should sweat from the second the match starts - because you don't know if you're up against a bunch of sleepy kittens or a pack of velociraptors. And if you go easy from the start, you wind up at 4 gens done with 0 hooks before you know what's happening.
What killers should also do is probably ease up a little bit once they realize it's a stomp.
One thing I've learned as of late.

But seriously - I've found that not giving a f* about the match outcome and only caring about the very moment you're in in a match is the only way to not snap in SoloQ.
The tricky thing about survivor is BP and Grade.
Even in a losing match (most of the time) the killer can at least safety pip and get 20k. For survivor, especially if you're the first down and then get hard camped or bled out with something like Lethal Pursuer, you can end up with sub 5k and depipping and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it.

There is no such thing as competitive dbd. Think about all of the restrictions that are in place just to try and create a fake sense of balance in order to make it an enjoyable viewing experience. And with all of that, the majority of a matches in comp still boil down to camping, tunneling, 3 genning, NOED and no way out (the very things people complain about in regular dbd games). Now put these teams in public matches with no restrictions and all it does is reveal that this game is not intended to be played like that for the most part. It’s best to just let the game end in 4-5 minutes and move on to a reasonable and more fun match.

But wait. Where's Technician, Bite the Bullet, Visionary, Deja Vu?
Those perks are great for helping new players find gens, stop 3-gen situations, and negate failed skill checks! But they're nowhere near the top 3 perks used, unlike Windows of Opportunity.
Technician isn't useful for anyone. It's basically a killer perk.
Bite the Bullet is attached to a licensed survivor and is a bit more advanced. I don't think new players really care about sound radii etc.
New players don't know what 3gen is. But I actually do see a lot of Deja Vu on newer players...and more player should use Deja Vu, it's a hell of a useful perk.

MMR still prioritizes queue times over ratings. If there are a group of players that have been waiting a long time for a match, then sadly someone is getting the short end of the stick, and unfortunately it was you in this case.
Some people just want to have fun and some people play this game like their life depended on it, which is why I think there should be a ranked and an unranked mode. It's also one of the reasons why I enjoy playing against the bots, because at least there I don't have to sweat my ass off, and no one's guaranteed to be toxic to each other.
Ranked/Unranked is one of those things that sounds like a great idea, but it's an unmitigated disaster when you try them, unless it's something like HOTS, where it had no public matchmaking and strict rules.
I mean...I remember how this basically killed SC2 for me.
For two expansions, there had just been 'ranked' mode. But what would happen is that players would hit a 'sweaty' MMR where they had to endure stressful matches and, to have 'fun' games - they'd either say sod it and derank to Bronze or Silver league to roflstomp newbies. Or, they'd purchase a smurf account for this purpose. It was miserable, and at the worst of it, maybe a quarter of the matches you'd have anything below Diamond league would be against Diamond/Masters level smurfs.
Of course, they would defend this, saying 'well, it's Blizzard's fault for making their game unfun' or 'well, those new players can learn how to play or quit'.
And they did quit. In droves. Blizzard tried banning smurfs, but it was almost impossible to detect.
So they added an Unranked mode, where people could go and play chill.
Only, all this did was remove the need for smurf accounts completely. You'd have your ranked mode as high as you can get it, while also deliberately keeping your Unranked MMR ridiculously low. It eventually meant that, ironically, the only way to have a reasonable chance of a fair match for newbies was to go back to Ranked, because Unranked was wall to wall smurfs.
TL/DR: All that would happen in DbD would be comp players and people looking to crack skulls could go over there for easy meat.

Nothing that operates on an invincible bubble of screw powers around hooks will ever work, be balanced, or be a good idea. This is a game where chases can be blocked by obstacles you can see over because you're not literally gazing upon a survivor's backside; "if you go near a hooked survivor and a chase hasn't started you are now an M1 killer regardless" is a terrible idea. Plus being plain confusing and nonintuitive about radiuses like every other thing in this game.

It's a convenient thing to hide behind.
But usage rates don't completely explain why they completely nuked Pop & Ruin. They could have made much more reasonable changes to Pop & Ruin and lowered their usage rates to reasonable levels. Lowering Pop to flat 20% (not 20% of current) and only adding the death deactivation (and not also destroying its regression) would have been those reasonable decisions.
It just makes too much sense to me that it was a business decision. Especially knowing BHVR.

If WoO is just a tool for new players then why do we see a high percentage of all players using it?
Most often I am seeing WoO played alongside Dead Hard and Resilience. These are not new players. These are players who want easy mode DbD who don't have to even have to think when they play the game. Drop glowing yellow thingy and move on to next glowing yellow thingy...
Not just. More than one thing can be true.
For people with visual issues, new players or just folks who play in rooms with a lot of screen glare, this makes darker maps playable.
Seriously mate, what is your issue? Like...everything you post is ultra negative and unpleasant. If you aren't having fun, maybe a different game or a break is in order.

Shrug too. If you want to go into that side of things, the most BM ever will - and will remain - the 4 man bleed-out while nodding for no reason.
This may be the reason why devs are thinking about the built-in unbreakable/mori mechanics (with 4-kills reward if killer manages to snowball)
I'd take a 4man bleed out any day over a 4man hide and seek squad abusing the item drop thing to never get AFK crows. At least the bleed out ends.

I am not calling for it to be nerfed, I firmly believe it will get nerfed sooner rather than later. If 6.1.0 taught me anything it's that BHVR's idea of "balance" is based on usage rates more than anything else.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/OH1I5ASB7ZLR/image.png
And currently Windows is the second-highest used survivor perk in DbD, only beaten by Dead Hard. According to one source at least.
Should it be nerfed? Not really, it's just an information perk and can be countered by blindness.
However, should it always be on all the time without any condition whatsoever? Should survivors be able to drop 5 pallets in one chase and still be shown where the next one is? Does it encourage interesting gameplay from survivors because it is always on? I think the answers to all these questions is no.
Merry Christmas everyone.
Seriously? WoO is used a lot because it is one of the best tools for new players to learn the game with.

But keep in mind that, at least, killers can anticipate this kind of tough games during the lobby stage, and can either change their build/mindset or even dodge the lobby
This is not even possible for solos/duos facing the equivalent bullshit from the other side (e.g., comp blight/nurse with 3+ slowdowns - or any other OP builds - and strongest add-ons, with 99+% chance victory at the start of the game)
Shrug. If you want to go into that side of things, I see a ton of survivors/duos/trios dodging because there's a newer player in their lobby.

I agree on hook grabs it’s a pretty dated mechanic.
I don’t agree on the power portion cause that would make the game kinda clunky and it doesn’t really need that.
I’m mixed on kobe cause it’s very funny when you dominate an entire game just for the 4% luck to screw you over. I don’t think it should be removed
I'd say about 1/3 of my losses in solo are because of a quitter, and all the kobe represents is a 'I quit but don't want a DC penalty' button. That other 4% of the time - it just feels obnoxious for the killer as it can represent a 'I lost a kill because luck' moment.

Could be a smurf squad but it's more likely MMR just didn't work. Some people are ######### and personally, ya know, I think they should be called out on it publicly but I can't change the rules here unfortunately.
Eh, it used to get to me but I've just gotten numb to it over the years. The devs want a stinky community it seems and it's not my place to change that.
@[Deleted User] said:
The thing is, they wouldn't even have to smurf their MMR down because of how low the cap is. Even if you are high average-ish at 1300 MMR, you are still within matchmaking range of a comp squad with a 1600 softcap. Hard to say if they're an actual active team or not without naming names and breaking forum rules, but all I can is that inflated egos unfortunately come with the territory in that scene. The only thing that made it tolerable for me was sticking with my small circle of friends outside of scrims when we unfortunately had to interact with the rest of the scene.
Maybe? But most of the time (I'd say...4 games in 5) I'm up against people who I've got a decent shot at beating and who have a decent shot at beating me. Clearly something is working - because this was not how it was under ranks.
Of course, that 5th game is a doozy, but it's still not terrible overall.

In DBD there’s 3 major problems with the game
Tunneling, Camping and Gen regression. Survivors hate tunneling and camping and killers hate having to run gen regression to deal with the pressure. It feels almost mandatory to run these perks. I came up with a idea to fix the issue at its core without changing the base game to much and will adjust the perks accordingly. Here’s my fix
Tunneling, camping, Gen regression
A huge issue survivors have is getting tunneled and camped. It’s not fun and it’s annoying but it’s sometimes mandatory for some killers. To fix this where going to encourage killers not to tunnel.
For each Unique survivor hooked the gen kick regression increases by 2.5%
No survivors hooked=2.5%
1 survivor hooked=5%
2 survivors hooked=7.5%
3 survivors hooked=10%
4 survivors hooked=12.5%
When 1 survivor is sacrificed or killed the gen regression will permanently go back to 2.5%.
With this change it encourages killers to go after more targets and not camp so in return he can kick gens and regress them more. And it cuts down on some perks cause now you don’t need any to keep up.
Perk changes
with this change we can’t keep some perks the same cause having 12.5% at base with some perks can be overbearing so here’s my changes with some getting a minor buff.
Brutal strength
-Added a Extra 2.5% regression to gen kick along with increased kicking speed.
Pop goes the weasel
-Increased the timer back to 40/50/60 seconds(was 35/40/45).
-Gen regression is now 7.5% TOTAL(was 20% current).
-kicking a gen will pause the timer
Call Of Brine
-Gen regression is now 125/150/175%(was 150/175/200%).
Eruption
-incapacitated is now 9/12/15 seconds(was 15/20/25).
-gen regression is now 12.5%(was 10%)
Oppresion
-cooldown is 80/70/60 seconds(was 120/100/80).
-(note does not apply other gen perks PGTW, COB, Overcharge, Eruption, Brutal, etc).
Jolt(Surge)
-removed basic attack requirement.
Conclusion
these changes I feel would fix the game without doing any major changes cause it encourages killers to go after more targets for more gen regression and the perk changes takes these into account to make them more like a addon and not a necessity. Let me know how you like these changes.
EDIT:changed the title to not false advertise.
Not the worst ideas I've seen, to be honest. Balance is a bit all over the place, but I see what you're driving at.
I'd also add:
- Killers cannot use their powers while within a certain radius of a hooked survivor and remaining there for a few seconds. If a chase begins outside of this radius, entering this radius while in chase will not trigger this effect.
- Hook grabs removed completely.
- Kobes removed completely, and the relevant perks reworked.

I've had people lie about being in comp.
Not saying that's what happened here, but it's possible.
MMR probably just ######### up and put you in a match you shouldn't have been in, pair that with serious Survivors and a non-serious Killer and you have a recipe for a miserable experience.
No, definitely actual comp players, from...uh, let's say somewhere in Europe. Links to their team and footage in their profiles, as I saw post game. Probably can't get more specific as I've gotten into hot water with the mods before on this.
It wasn't the most miserable game I've ever had, and had some absolutely hilarious games today too - just finished up one on Pig where I got a ton of use out of snowmen XD.
This was probably an MMR fart, but with how they acted it also felt like it could be a smurf squad.

If that's what you want to believe.
Nice bait, but okay.

For all we know those two players had no idea you were doing the challenge. Seems likely to me.
No, that challenge is a bit of a meme for some reason.

What exactly about a 1v4 game is different? The Killer is one person with no teammates; if the Killer leaves, it's a victimless crime. The Survivors get a free win, and the Killer doesn't have to play out an unfun match.
Yes and no. For example, my friends and I bring flans and rare items. Killer tries to camp the first down, we get them out and the killer quits. Everyone gets sub 10k BP and wastes all of that stuff.
It's a bit different.
