Okay. Verdict seems to be, just end it.
Going with that for now. Simplifies things.

Lol no. I just don’t take video game as serious I guess. I don’t know if you do but it seem like it. It’s only a game
Eh. I try to treat real people with respect, whether that is in a game or not. Because I know that there are real people behind those avatars.
Anyway - I don't think this is going anywhere productive, so you do your thing. But don't try to rationalize or whatabout your way out of it - you know that you are being a massive jerk to deliberately upset other people.
If you can feel good about that then...yeah. Not much more to be said.

Not over a video game though. I played GTA Online for years now; killing, stealing, blowing people personal vehicles up, kept messing with someone till they left the lobby because they messed my cargo or something up and nothing happened to me bad for having fun on a game. Just in game when they either get revenge and turned the tables and kept killing me or got one of their friends to torture me, which I always found hilarious
Eh. Last I'm going to say on this because I don't think you are going to change your mind here - but when you have to rationalize and defend something you are doing this much, chances are that you know you are not doing right.

As long as I didn’t physically harm someone, I’m pretty sure there is no karma. Unless you’re talking about, I all of a sudden want to actually play and people keep DCing. Now I can see that being in game karma. But I’m pretty sure nothing bad is going to happen to me because of a video game. If it did happen that way, imagine how many bad things would happen because of karma all because I was killing people in GTA Online. I heard people get real mad on there when you kill them. I did it a few times but nothing happened bad to me in real life. Maybe some got a better playing on me and they kept killing me but that’s in game karma
Shrug. I don't know. Karma doesn't work like that. It doesn't wait for things to be convenient or get you in ways you don't mind.
It strikes when you least want it to - to basically force you to say to yourself 'well, I wish I hadn't done that now'.
But at the end of the day, it's up to you. You know you are doing a bad thing to others for your own personal enjoyment. It may be petty, but it's still...wrong? And when you do stuff like that...there is always a bill to pay, down the line.
That said, again - you do you, mate. Make your choices, and live with them.

I believe in karma too but not in a video game. I believe in karma in real life. My DCing is “my” equivalent of the killer tunneling and camping. Some teammates may not be mad when someone DC. It may be more that get mad but I know not everyone gets mad. I understand when someone DC even if I don’t know the reason
Except that once other people are involved, it sort of is 'real life'.
And I don't think that other survivors are as accepting as you are. I know that I'd be pretty annoyed.
-
@Heartbound said:
Yeah if it's not a serious game then don't treat it like one. If me and all three/two survivors crouch walk towards you, focus on bloodpoints, not blood.
Interesting.
What specifically do they want me to do, though? Knock them down? Hook them? Just wound them and let them heal?
What gives the most BP?
-
I went down quite a bit, which to be fair I agree with.
There is no way I should be rank 10. That was more a matter of me playing a silly amount than being good. While my opponents are still...crazily higher ranked than me, it has improved a little.

I was in a match against a Plague yesterday, 2 players DC'd and it was just me and Claudette.
Plague let us do a bit of farming, but killed us on hook in the end, and that was perfectly alright by everyone involved. Nobody de-pipped, and the killer got most of the points they were robbed of. They took a match that wasn't fair for any of the remaining 3 and made the best of it for everyone involved, no hard-feelings between Plague and myself of Claudette. No need to feel guilty about not letting them escape in that situation, but kudos to you if you're willing to ensure they don't de-rank from it.
At the rank I'm at, it's very easy to make up. For some reason, I get put against some very high level survivors.
Unless they are completely skunking me or being rude, I'll try to give 2 of them the W.

I understand but I feel no type of way when my teammate DC and I have to find a way to have fun in this game. Do the killer get full points when someone DC or a set amount?
A set amount, but it's quite generous. And plus, BP - after a certain point in time - does not feel amazingly important. Like...it comes in and I spend it.
About the only thing that would annoy me is if I was running some top tier addons. But again, on my two main killers I'm already sort of flush with these (especially Mori's).
Again - the only people you are hurting are the other three survivors, who at least expect you to stick it out. It's just...bad, bad karma.
I'm a firm believer that, whatever you put out into the world comes back to you. And those other survivors aren't NPCs. They are real people who waited for a match and were hoping for a real one.
-
@SweetTerror said:

Same. Killing the two remaining survivors when there's still five gens left to be done means that regardless if your killer or survivor, you're walking away with a pitiful amount of blood points. Whenever that happens and I'm playing as killer, I'll let the other two farm because at least that way we all walk away with something.
Thing is - it's hard to tell whether the other survivors want that or not. I've had people cuss me out postgame and threaten to report for 'holding the game hostage' when I was actually trying to give them a chance.
-
Well that's sort of a mean thing to do.
You aren't really bothering the killer. If people DC, I get a little jolt of schadenfreude that they feel that beaten. And hey, all I need to do is choose whether to be nice to the remaining three or not.
The people you are bothering are the other three survivors, who must now endure a bad game.
-
My number one goal in games, at least to start is to scare people. I thus like to run 'surprise' killers, like Hag and Spirit (trying to learn Freddy and Nurse...not going well on the latter :) ).
I'm pretty sure I'm successful sometimes, if reactions are anything to go by.
Thing is that - yeah. As @Heartbound put it, I'm guessing that more experienced players are just seeing mechanics and numbers at a certain point and will be difficult to scare.
-
@Kagato said:
You're supposed to let the survivors win every match regardless of dc or not.
Haha. They generally do when they are playing against me, anyway.
I have no problems terrorizing a team if they are better than me, or it's a good game - but I do feel guilty when they end up at a huge disadvantage because of some mirkin who DCs the second I hang them.

All of that is fair game. I generally treat the Killer with respect unless I see them do something jerky like face camp a hook. Also, I don't mind a Killer being oppressive. Comes with the game. That said, a lot of Freddys I go up against will slug endlessly to try and short change the match, camp hooks, tunnel off hook, etc. I realize these are legal strats, but it doesn't make them fun and it doesn't make that Freddy less sweaty.
Also, post-game chat with most Freddys for me is just a wall of insults and complaints. Don't know what it is about that Killer, but he seems to attract some real Karens and angry fat kids.
It DOES make the few, rare cool guy Freddys a real joy to play with and chat with, though.
I've legit turned off endgame chat at this point. Trust me, as a new killer with killer matchmaking disabled right now, it's been a...ride. Everything from this team saying stuff like "lol games full uninstall" or similar to full premades using an obvious smurf (how do people lower their rank to that degree? Full purple with nasty addons) who are crazily BM - I just don't need to hear it.
I can certainly be oppressive. I won't camp unless I absolutely need to remove someone from the game ASAP (OoO is my biggie right now) but if I see you unhooking or running away and I have the shot, I'm going to be after you.
I'll slug when it makes tactical sense (watching Otz a lot right now and he explains it rather well) but I try not to be abusive.

You know what's NOT fun? When you load into a match, and two people almost immediately disconnect. I feel like when the happens, the match should just be canceled because it's very annoying. Just had a match where my teammates quit on me almost instantly. If you're a survivor, you're going to depip unless the killer decides to be benevolent and farm. But most of them probably just want it over with too, and will likely depip as well.
I agree, from a Killer perspective.
If people start DCing, I either have to let the remaining few farm and win or I feel legitimately guilty.

Freddy. His innate slowdown is obnoxious. His draw distance is annoying to deal with. Also, Freddy mains seem to almost NEVER have a sense of humor. I think they all play in their bathtubs and wait for the collected sweat to reach their nipples before they finally open the drain.
Edit: I played against ONE chill Freddy. Total good guy. Every Freddy before and after has been a trash talking turbosweat that thinks they are the pinnacle of gaming because their character naturally applies pressure with them only needing to M1 and take blood dumbs in front of hooks and loops.
Haha, regardless of the killer I play I tend to be pretty chill. Unless...
- You taunt or teabag me.
- You are running Object of Obsession or are in an obvious SWF pubstomp group.
- You Decisive Strike me.
- You've been BM in the past.
- I haven't managed to secure a kill all game.
If any of the above are true, let the shenanigans commence. And if you teabag me, you are going in my basement and never coming out again.
However, I can also be nice. If you have a DC on your team, I'm not above letting two of you have the game. If we are obviously mismatched skill wise, I'll go easy and won't end the game too fast (and I'll probably let you take the hatch).

but it won't eliminate camping, the problem of camping is way bigger than that - there's BBQ that is also there to help killers have information as to survivor locations...but whilst many killers still focus on the unhook instead of pressurising gens, that's why camping will still be an issue. So what you are proposing doesn't help with that at all.
Do you think that camping is more prevalent now, as something of a counter-measure to SWF stompcomps and killer matchmaking not really being a thing right now?
It feels like (despite my distaste for it) camping is sometimes my only option when I have a team running rings around me.

• Hag can easily trap a hook and force you to crouch unless you want her to teleport from halfway across the map, might as well give up on the rescue if it's the basement because she put traps all the way down the stairs

I should not be able to drop traps right on hooked people (as much as I like doing this to obnoxious, BM teams) - they should at the very least decay after 60 seconds or so.
To compensate, make her model slightly smaller. My favorite thing about her is her camouflage/jumpscare potential :D.

in a week I’ve gotten one match with someone with OoO and they weren’t even in SWF. Not saying it doesn’t happen, but just sharing my experience with such groups.
I do get SWF consistently though, but I have no issues with them because I feel like the game is at a point where you can beat these type of survivors. Most of them get super altruistic which isn’t optimal for them.
I just don’t think it’s as much of a big deal as many here make it sound. We would see many more red rank killers struggling for sure. Also, it’s not like we haven’t had updates which have sort of debuffed SWF groups. You have Oblivious status which is IMO a debuff directed at SWF teams. Also many other tracking perks with wallhack mechanics have been added.
No one realistically (even with OoO)sits there narrating every action the killer does. I don’t think they would be able to because many times killers will start to do one thing and quickly switch targets or decide to do something unpredictable.
It's not just OoO (although I'll have to start clipping my end-of-game stuff to show you how often I see the damn thing. It's certain perks, when run together in a coordinated group that makes life genuinely unpleasant.

It's...not good. Not quite original DOTA toxic, but pretty damn poisonous. It almost feels set up to be like that.
And the thing is - toxicity breeds toxicity.
I came into the game ...wow, must be about a week ago and have been playing consistently (busted ribs, not much else to do). I was all "yeah, let's have some fun scaring people and facilitating a good game".
After back to back matches against SWF stompcomps who are always amazingly BM and gloaty, I've gradually morphed into the campy, cheesy, tunnelly nightmare that everyone seems to talk about.

Let’s be real, some people on these very forums think that a SWF is a guaranteed win, which is beyond true. A slight advantage? Sure. OP? Hardly.
I'd say far more than slight. A group, coordinating on voicechat can basically run rings around a killer, especially with Object of Obsession - which I see nearly every game now. It's basically a wall hack for one player, and with voicechat it means wallhacks for the entire party.
I completely understand the urge to play with friends. But the game just...isn't set up for it. Too many things that work fine for solo players but sort of break things in a full group.

You can kill me, but lets farm a little bit, huh?
In one of the matches I had tonight, half of the team I was on disconnected right at the start of the match. There were still 5 gens left to do, but the killer didn't care and promptly killed us both. AND HE BROUGHT IN A CAKE!!! Why let a cake go to waste? Like I said before, you can kill me, but let's all walk away with something shall we? Why punish the remaining survivors for something that is out of our control?
Devs, you need to have something in place that guarantees a safety pip when survivors disconnect. It's ridiculous to think that we should lose ranks because players either kill themselves on the first hook, or disconnect at the start of a match.
If a survivor (or two) DCs, I will always try to give the game to the remaining two, as long as they aren't obnoxious.
I just feel too bad killing them.

What about survivors throwing the game trying to rescue someone and failing and the killer ending up getting a 2k or more which he didnt deserve?
Game shouldn't be balanced around SWF. But that doesn't mean SWF itself shouldn't be nerfed to make them in line with solo players.
The problem is that the game just...doesn't feel set up for SWF. It wasn't built for it. It was clearly built for randos vs a killer. Both thematically and mechanically.
SWF was something tacked on and now you have a lose/lose - where premade stompcomps will become nastier and more prevalent, making killers either quit, go survivor themselves or become amazingly bitter and unfun to play against.
-
@GayDwight said:
On some past streams, they mentioned that they are not responsible for the fact that players can communicate with each other - skype, discord, and so on. Some of your killer perks simply do not work with the SWF, as well as some killer abilities - trapper, hag. Separately, you can highlight Object of Obsession, everything is clear here.
Apparently it is very convenient to relieve yourself of responsibility for the mechanics of your own game and pass it on to the players. Maybe then you will warn about the presence of friends in the killer's lobby so that the killer does not take perks that do not work with survivors in the SWF. Maybe completely rework the perks and abilities of some killers. At the moment it looks like disrespect and disregard for their own player base, nothing more.
An easy solution would be the one Blizzard used in Heroes of the Storm to deal with a similar issue regarding premades vs randoms.
Basically, for every player in your group/party queuing together, your MMR is temporarily inflated.
This means that to counter the increased coordination, you will be paired with a higher skilled killer.
That seems amazingly fair.

Bingo.
When I started a few days ago, I went in expecting to have fun. I'm now loitering between ranks 12 and 14, depending on how many stompcomps I face in a row - who are all, essentially without fail, extremely BM.
I was never like this when I started - but now, I play to win. The second I see or smell an SWF, I'm going to camp, tunnel and otherwise be obnoxious.
Well done, all.

The base self unhook rate drastically increases when the Survivor is in the Killer's Terror Radius. Maybe from like 4% to 24% or something.
It would force Killers to actually leave hooks even when its optimal to camp... kind of like what Decisive Strike does. Adding a game mechanic to force the Killer to play suboptimally to encourage more interesting and fun to play against gameplay.
This could easily make it miserable to be a killer, especially if there is a generator right near the hook for instance, or if the killer is one that plays a large radius style.
I get camping for sure, but if there is someone with a toolbox or decided to teabag me from behind a pallet and I get a chance to remove you from the game early...yup. Bye bye.

So, you're not going to thwap that Survivor in front of you, adding healing time, and making them easier to down if they do not heal? You don't need to chase them (can just thwap'n'go), but if you just literally ignore them standing right in front of you, you're making it harder on yourself and thus your intent is only to end that other Survivors game as quickly as possible.
It depends. When someone is doing that (making it obvious that they want me to whack them) my instinct is to do the opposite.

You got killers who disable survivors from doing anything and make looping useless like Deathslinger, doctor, huntress and pyramid head. Plus all the instadown powers, perks, and add-ons. The game isn't survivor sided, you just don't know how to play your side.
Shrug. I think he's just saying that there is a happy medium somewhere. Why do maps have to be favored either way?
Honestly, I think a big help would be a map veto or killers get to know what map they are heading into. Certain maps feel like they hardcounter certain killers, and RNG is never fun.

Most of the time "Tunneling" will be thrown around willy-nilly.
Generally you're guilty of tunneling if a Healthy Survivor is body-blocking you to prevent you from hitting the wounded guy, but you're not even bothering to hit the healthy Survivor, you only want to hit that guy who just got unhooked.
I'm not one to lurk around hooks (unless it's endgame and I haven't got a kill) but if I see a wounded survivor and someone is trying to block me, doesn't it just make more sense tactically to take out the weaker target? Especially if it's someone with a toolbox or something?

I don’t expect people to care as I haven’t been on this forum for a long time, but I’m still going to post my thoughts.
I’ve played this game for a long time, on both sides. I have bought every single DLC chapter and have spent way more money on cosmetics than I’d like to admit, but recently I just don’t have fun and it’s because of the people I’m forced to play with or against. I was so excited for Felix and the graphics update but 90% of the matches I’ve had since the update have been with killers that either face camp or tunnel. I expect to see this once in a while but not almost every single match. Maybe I’m being extremely unlucky with whatever server I’m being put on, but I’m having a terrible time and I’m finding myself getting annoyed which is something I don’t want any game to do to me. So it’s time to bow out.
It is sad as I truly do love this game and the hard work put into cosmetics etc but I just can’t cope with the absolute shitfest that is the player base. It’s not as bad for a killer, but I didn’t buy or invest in this game to only play one role.
Also, it’s not always me being face camped, in fact, it’s rarely me. But being in those matches still drags me down as it’s no fun having to just sit on generators whilst your team are camped at the hook. Where is the fun? This game is called Dead By Daylight, not generator simulator.
Hopefully the rest of you are having better matches and maybe I will return but I can’t see it being anytime soon. I’m completely drained by constantly going against people who’s sole goal is to make people have a terrible time.
Daisy,

From another new player (killer perspective) - this game, at present, is set up to cause frustration and toxicity in many ways.
It was very clearly designed for a less coordinated group of players versus a killer. But now we have SWF and it creates a situation where it can be amazingly painful to be the killer, especially as these groups are almost inevitably BM.
There is nothing quite like a team of 4 changing to quadruple Morel with Toolboxes just as the timer expires and then telling you "Games full uninstall" when they destroy you to make you want to take it out on the next group you face.
On top of this, there is no killer matchmaking at present, leading to a lot of killers being put up against far higher ranked/more experienced players.
After a day or two of this - yeah, killers can get a bit ornery and may resort to tactics dedicated to taking down coordinated teams on Discord, ala hanging one up and then patrolling, or trying to eliminate an softer or more annoying target first. Welcome to the metagame arms race.
Of course, this is going to make things miserable for the solo players. But I would hesitate to put the blame on killers.
I'd blame dropping SWF on a game that does not feel properly set up for it.

Do you camp?
Whether it be for strategy or just to facecamp for fun or anything of the sort. No judgment, I'm just curious how many killers do consciously camp.
Short answer: Yes, with an if...
Long answer: Not as a rule, no. I'll only camp a hooked/downed survivor if:
- There is an obvious and massive skill delta between me and the survivors. As in, yeah, you guys are obviously 10 ranks above me and in a group together, so I'm going to have to play dirty.
- Tactically, against an SWF group. See above.
- I've yet to secure a kill and the gates are opening.
- You have a barcode for a name.
- You teabag or taunt me during the game - you bet that you are now going to be the focus of my attention until you are dead.

Yeah the matchmaking rn is very strange so I feel your pain since I'm going against like every rank today.
Don't feel discouraged by the toxic peeps and just focus on getting better(by watching vids or playing the game) .
You'll get better just try to stay cool and enjoy somehow
Yeah, we will see.
