Tbh swf really isn’t that bad 99% of the time it’s just 2-4 friends playing together I rarely get depip squads

I feel people go to calling out the other side when things don’t go their way too often instead of admitting their faults and getting better

The thing is - this game just does not feel balanced around coordinated groups.

If it had been, from the get go, that could have worked.

However, it's a lose/lose situation as is - if they buff killers, then solo survivors suffer. If they don't, then killers are going to have less fun and burn out.

I'd rather see a more elegant solution, such as matching premades against more skilled killers by default or giving killers an extra 15% BP for every survivor grouped together.

Whats you're expectations for license chapters,? Who do you think will get next year ?

    My hopes:

    • Pinhead (Hellraiser)
    • Candyman
    • Jason
    • The Xenomorph
    • Chucky
    • 'Death' from Final Destination (now there's a channlenge, devs!)

Before I get absolutely roasted, let me explain. There are very few SWFs that I despise going against, and I’m talking about survivor depip squads(which are so far and few between that I almost never see them.) This is why I hate when killers say “bUt ThErE wAs nOtHiNg i CouLd dO” against a SWF, because 95% of the time that’s just wrong. Most SWFs in this game are people trying to have fun with their friends, because we ALL know how the solo queue experience is. I can confidently say that 9/10 of the SWFs I go against are people memeing with their friends and they bring stupid perks like no mither, sabo/breakout, pebbles, etc. They aren’t really trying to sweat, and if you go with it as the Killer, you’re going to have a lot more fun too. Also, I guarantee any person who complains about SWFs when they play Killer has at some point played Survivor with their friends. Stop being a hypocrite and stop getting upset at people for wanting to play a game that THEY bought with THEIR money with their friends. And, like I already said, this does not apply to 4 man survivor depip squads, but how many of us go against those players every day?

Whenever I see 'From A Killer Main' in a title, I get the image of Elmer Fudd in a bunny costume.

That’s odd then cuz I haven’t run into that sort of thing playing either side I thought maybe the crossplay would have fixed it

A dev said in another thread that matchmaking has been disabled for killers.

    ayo sorry for the delay

Survivors stall out the character selection, and change to 4 Morels with toolboxes at the absolute last second. Or just switch to double flashlights when I'm Hag.

This one doesn't really have a counter (except to go into task manager, shut down the game, and try and re-que). If survivors do this, they're just a bit pissy ngl. Depending on when they switch to double beamer, you could have time to dodge the lobby properly though. The thing I do is just grin and bear it, and thankfully a lot less survivors I've seen have been doing this now.

    Multiple Morels with toolkits

There's a perk from Bubba called Franklin's Demise which, after 130/110/90 seconds from them being hit, yeets their item into oblivion. It can help stall the game- they're not doing gens if they're getting their item- or just deletes the item from the game. There's also Overwhelming Presence from Doctor, although that perk is #########. Franklin's is the one to go for, definitely.

A group of 3 survivors sticking together and moving from generator to generator, with 1 person on permanent lookout for me.

This is actually an incredibly ineffecient way to play as survivor; sure someone is on lookout but you start approaching and that means all four survivors are no longer doing a generator, at which point you play a bit of defence and hit them all, getting them away from that generator and leaving them all to have to heal, wasting time, or making them easier to chase. The perk Sloppy Butcher (which you should see in your bloodweb as soon as you just level killers, since it's a universal perk) helps by slowing healing time by 4 seconds, from 16 to 20. Doesn't sound like much, but trust me, it adds up quickly.

Whatever the hell 'Decisive Strike' is...

Decisive Strike is a survivor teachable perk, unlockable from Laurie Stroke at level 40. The simple version of what it does is this:

After being unhooked, or unhooking yourself, Decisive Strike (DS) activates for the next 40/50/60 seconds. During this time, if you are picked up or grabbed by the killer, the survivor is faced with a skill check. Hitting that skillcheck will free the survivor from the killer's grasp, and stun the killer in place for 5 seconds (although this is bugged on a couple killers right now). The survivor who hits you with DS becomes your obsession, and the perk deactivates for the entirety of the trial. ("Simple" lol).

How I counter it is through what's known as "Slugging", leaving survivors in the Dying State instead of picking them up to generate map pressure. I go chase someone else and let them just sit there and bleed. Alternatively, I make a note of who's been on the hook recently and I just don't chase them, and go for someone else. I very rarely get hit with a DS unless a survivor forces me to grab them, and when I do I've already won the game and they can't pull it back no matter how hard they try.

Survivors who use the 'hooks are much further away thing' and bring along 3 hook disassembly things.

As mentioned before, Franklin's can help if they're sabotaging with a toolbox (by the way, "hook disassembly" is known as Sabotaging hooks). If they're using the perk Saboteur, it can only be triggered once every 60 seconds. I like to fake going to one hook then go to another, forcing them to waste their perk. Alternatively, I play the killer Pyramid Head, or The Executioner frequently, and part of his kit is to be able to ignore hooks and send people to a Cage Of Atonement, so I guess I've just kinda learned to drop, cage, chase.

Another thing to do is, like countering DS, just slug them. Leave them on the ground, or if they're in your arms drop them. Chase the person who sabotaged. If you have to, leave everyone dying on the ground, get a 4-man slug, then continue hooking people. It's kinda boring, but at times can be hilarious (and survivors get very very salty, which makes me very very happy).

I hope I could help; good luck out there in the fog :)

    Thanks, this is excellent advice.

you're punishing people because they want to play with their friends. Sure on paper SwF are very strong, but there are also trash team, they play for fun. Impossible idea to realize.

If you want some tips or tricks to some killers let me know and I can gladly try and help out man :)

DBD isn't a new player friendly game, so all I can really say is to just stick with it, grin, and bear it. Mix it up with some survivor gameplay too so you can get bullied, tunneled, and facecamped as well; add some variety to your frustration.

And if you do decide the game ain't for you, then that's unfortunate but it can't be helped. I hope that whatever game you do play you'll have fun in.

Okay, a few questions (as in: how do I counter this?)

    • Survivors stall out the character selection, and change to 4 Morels with toolboxes at the absolute last second. Or just switch to double flashlights when I'm Hag.
    • Multiple Morels with toolkits, doing (see below)
    • A group of 3 survivors sticking together and moving from generator to generator, with 1 person on permanent lookout for me.
    • Whatever the hell 'Decisive Strike' is...
    • Survivors who use the 'hooks are much further away thing' and bring along 3 hook disassembly things. That's why I have Iron Grasp by the way - keep seeing it.

First thing to do then, before grinding teachables, is to find the one killer you like even slightly more than the others from who you have unlocked. For me right now, it's Nurse and Pyramid Head, but it could be Wraith or Trapper or Doctor or whoever. They're the people you'll wanna focus on because they give you the most amount of fun.

Also hexes making it 5 minutes is a miracle, usually they're gone in about 18 seconds lol.

I'd love that, but currently I'm not really having fun on anyone. Hence me going 'well, I might as well grind this out'.

By this I mean, I feel equally as useless and bullied on every killer I've tried. Except Bubba, but then I basically have to camp.

  • @Zarr0ch said:

Can’t stop moaning can you people. One thing gets fixed then straight to the next. What about the killer sided maps? What’s that? You don’t care about those ones do you.

As soon as you get your way and survivors are all dead in 5mins or less you’ll be back here crying about queue times as they all stop playing

Name one? I'd love to try them.

  • @GoodBoyKaru said:

Well I'm just gonna say to keep going. Sure, you had to sweat your arse off, but you still killed 2 of em. That's a ######### achievement and you should be proud.

Unfortunately, this is the current normal, however I guess the plus side is that you'll improve quicker?

I really hope you find some better matches man, specially since you've only been playing 3 days. If you want some help I'd suggest looking up some guides on YouTube on how to play certain killers or run tiles effectively, it's actually really helpful.

Also the fact you have Overcharge unlocked makes me think you've got Doctor and his teachables. On Hag, I'd strongly suggest Monior and Abuse, especially if you don't have any slowdown perks (no, overcharge doesn't count, and I can see why you wouldn't want to use ruin).

I tried using Ruin for a day (using Hag now - not enjoying her at all) and not a single game went by where it lasted more than 5 minutes. Ditto her other hexes. Hence Overcharge.

Can't enjoy myself at all, so just grinding out the teachables I want. Its not fun and I can see...maybe 2 or 3 more days until I just shut down and go back to playing Marvel.

yeah, the current matchmaking doesn't care, unfortunately.

It just checks what ranks people are and searches within that range.

for example: if person A is rank 10 and in a group with a rank 4, the game will search for others between rank 1-16.

and by observation it can even mean that if A and B load into a lobby with a level 14, person D and E might end up rank 20

I wish I could play against someone under rank 8. Cannot think of the last game that happened.

And this isn't me being good - I suck at this. This is me grimly slogging away because I spent a few bucks on this and considering just throwing the towel in.

  • @Rivyn said:

Seems pretty simple to have a basic matchmaking system work. Match by color, or by number. How did DbD go so wrong? I know of the general theory of a killer exodus after Ruin, and SWF throwing things out of whack, but I don't recall a dev chipping in. Just faulty code?

A dev told me that they've completely scrapped killer matchmaking a while back and plan to bring it back down the line.

  • @MeltingPenguins said:

That's unfortunately 'normal'. as 'skill based matchmaking' is off atm, we're back to the '6 ranks apart is fair'... (which usually ends up as 'each player can be a base for the calculation, not just the killer'...)

Thing is - this wasn't a few mates chumming up to test some new survivors. This was clearly a very coordinated squad - to the degree they'd perfectly time bodyblocking to stall out hangs.

Alright, I'm not a "newbie" killer, but I'm still rank 20 (literally only play killer to do dailies) and I'm thinking maybe I can poke my head into that role a little more. Do you guys have some general tips for beginner killers?

EDIT: Killers that pique my interest: Spirit, Doc, Plague, Nurse

Started playing a few days ago.

My advice right now would be...don't. Apparently the devs have completely removed killer matchmaking, meaning that this was about my day and was not even in the top 5 most unfair matchups.

Keep in mind that at least 3/4 of my games have at least 2-3 players working together over Discord. The only reason I'm playing right now is that I sank a few bucks into this game recently, as once I do burn out, I'm not sure I'll have the will to return.

I'd enjoy survivor for now and come back once they've added matchmaking - apparently it's a month or two?

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/191277/killers-that-abuse-hooked-survivors-are-sociopaths

So when I play killer I try my best to play as fair as possible, but when I get a survivor trying to be "toxic" and I down them, I may hit them on hook and shake my camera as well as a way to tell them I'm not pleased with their behaviour.

A lot of people who play GTA like to cause mayhem, does that make them psychopaths? It's a bit far claiming people may suffer from mental illnesses due to their actions in a video game.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1617635#Comment_1617635

Although people who stall the game, could just be doing it so that they could earn more blood points or gain more emblems. As going against bad players really affects the emblem system, I personally don't care about rank but others do.

For example when I'm playing killer I get a group of survivors far below my skill level, I'm probably given an opportunity to end the game quite early on. Instead I'll just hook the downed survivor and allow the remaining survivor I saw in the open save the other survivor, so that I can get more blood points.

No, they got all 5 gens then waited outside an exit. They had someone on lookout and would either scatter, or converge on me with flashlights the second I knocked someone down. This went on for 20 minutes.

  • @Deadman316 said:

    Change my mind...

Sure. Let me tell you a quick story.

I'm extremely new to this game and yet it is throwing me up against coordinated teams of Red/Purple ranked players, game after game.

I've resorted to basically bagging one person and sitting on them once the gates are opened to try and secure a kill. They won't come close, so I'll beat their friend and hopefully that baits them.

Now the actual sociopaths are people who completely roll a brand new killer and then teabag/stall the game out to be jerks.

  • @Dzeikor said:

Because you wont have to rely on teammates, even in sfw playing with premade teams, not having someone to rely on but yourself means if you're skilled, you cant go wrong,as survivor even if you're skilled, you can still lose if your teammates aren't.I sure wish there was a survivor mode where you have to survive on your own without worying about your teammates.

I'd agree with you, if at least 3/4 of my games since I started playing a few days ago wasn't at least a 3man - the majority (not exaggerating here) being really obnoxious. Twice tonight I've seen a team change to full Moral(Morel?) with those toolbox things just as the timer is about to go red. Not even sure how to prevent that.

Its like...chaps. I'm Yellow. Two of you are Red. You could beat me easily with half the effort - so there's no need to be awful.

Seriously: "Games full, get out", "Uninstall LOL" and "haha get out scrub" is the sort of thing that drives new players away.

My tip for you is trying to arrange some friends you can practice at KYF. Watch some guides at youtube as well. Guys like Otzdarva, Scott Jund, Raging Ryuga, Interact and Dowsey have great guides and I'm pretty sure you can learn a lot from them. Killer is really a hard learning skill curve, so it's normal to suck at the beginning. But if you don't give up you'll pretty sure get better.

    KYF?

Also - what friends? I've just started this game :)

Ugh, really hoping the Killer matchmaking actually happens soon. Having a miserable time with the game no matter what I try (literally 2/3 games are against an obvious premade and I'm not exaggerating when I say every single one has been foul and at least mildly BM).

Really hollows out my motivation to keep on trying.

  • @Almo said:

Killer-specific matchmaking isn't in place at the moment; that's part of the MMR system. MMR is currently turned off while we make some adjustments. It will come back "soon". We're aware of how important matchmaking is, and we're working to improve it.

    Wow, thanks mate!

Really enjoying your game thus far. Not a fan of playing survivor, but killers can be immensely fun. That said, I hope this gets going soon because...woof, am I having a rough time of it (and the playstyle I'm semi forced to adopt...I'm sure it's no fun for survivors either).

    @nursewannabe said:

Then on twitch I'd definitely recommend watching Drey for doctor gameplay and Scorpionz for pig, as they are their respective mains and really good at them

Thanks. I mostly played Doctor because I wanted his 'Generator kick' thing as this has saved my bacon many times. Doing Hag next for Ruin (I like to play a hit and run game) and then...probably whoever has a good teachable. Not settled into a killer yet as I'm still very much learning.

Likely going to main Pig, Freddy, Spirit or another sneaky killer.

    @TheWarNung said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1615995#Comment_1615995

Bubba, Doc, and Pig are great choices for someone starting out. They're all easy to learn, reasonably powerful, and just gosh-darned fun. They've also got some good teachable perks to start you off with. BBQ and chili will get you extra BP in every match, so use it often while you're leveling up. The only other good starter killers I can think of are maybe... Daddy Myers and Ghostface?

This game does have a steep learning curve, and moat of the players have years worth of headstart on you. Don't let it get you down. As someone who picked up the game shortly after launch I can't even begin to imagine having to learn 21(?) Killers and roughly a gajillion perks from scratch.

Really though, the best advice I can give is to remember to have fun. I nearly quit early on after a string of losses. Then I watched a streamer to get some advice and got a sharp reminder that this is a game. Don't be like I was.

    See you in the fog!

Yeah, did Bubba first for chilli - did rather well as him but I'm not a fan of his playstyle. Want to be a sneaky, jumpscare-y villain, not a berserker.

Did Doctor next for his Generator thing and doing Hag next for Ruin. Who else should I am to get a teachable off before I choose a main?

Pig is crazy fun but I never seem to do well with her. Doc...well, I can be annoying?

  • @nursewannabe said:

This is why it's important you play both sides, something like 70/30 if you enjoy one side most. So you can enter both mindsets, and will learn how to predict the opponents moves

What killers are you playing btw?

    Currently? Leatherface, Doctor and Pig.

    @DWolfAlpha said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1615037#Comment_1615037

Did you keep getting destroyed? Cuz it's supposed to (assuming it's working properly) set you up against players with a comparable skill to the killer you selected. For example, I'm pretty good going up against a Trapper or a Demo, so the killers that I play against are usually pretty good at those killers. But I'm absolute garbage against Doctor. I'm like, a rank 7 ish survivor, and I struggle against rank 16 Doctors.

Yeah, kind of. Unless someone DCs, I'm lucky to get more than one kill, if that - unless I'm playing Leatherface, in which case I usually get at least two (using some very campy methods).

    @unluckycombo said:

Trust me, you're not doing anything wrong. The game has a really high learning curve to get into, and the matchmaking isn't great.

Honestly, I know this sounds a bit counter-productive, but playing a bit of Survivor might help. Survivor is a lot easier to get into, and will help you at least start to understand the basics of the game without being as punishing. Especially if you can get some more experienced players to help you learn in a SWF or something. I know Survivor isn't really as fun as Killer, but it's not as harsh to learn imho, so you might have an easier time trying to learn some of their basics, and then applying what you know there to some of your killer gameplay.

    It's an idea, certainly.

  • @nursewannabe said:

Matchmaking has always been trash. And yes, the ranking system sucks as well.

I really hate how newer players are affected by this, because it either discourages them to keep playing the game or it pushes them to follow certain mindsets that blame everything on the other side and doesn't push to self improvement. Hopefully the new mmr will be better than the first one.

As of now, the only advice I can give you is to keep playing trying to ignore this aspect and focus on learn g how to read survivors, and play survivor yourself to get a grasp of their mindset. Also, watch some killer main streamers. Otzdarva, Scorpionz, Fungoose, the entity left hand or Ohtofu to mention a few. DON'T watch people like truetalent, space coconuts or hexy: you'll unlearn whatever you've learned until now and will start playing the game with wrong mindsets

Oh no, I blame myself. I'm...not very good.

See - I'd love to learn and improve, but it's tricky when my opponents are so much better than me that it's hard to even understand what went wrong/right, let alone how to counter it. Not quite sure how to tackle a group sticking together and moving from objective to objective with one player on permanent lookout.

Actually did try to watch some Youtube videos of games, but again - a bit over my head.

About the only thing I really gained was from a new player tips video on what talents etc. to pick, and who to grind on first (that came out wrong), but that's about it.

  • @Fibijean said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1615036#Comment_1615036

This isn't true at the moment, because MMR matchmaking is currently disabled. I would guess OP's problem is the opposite - matchmaking has reverted to how it was before the MMR changed (in other words, pretty garbage) and that's why they're having problems.

The good news, @StarLost , is it's not something you've done wrong, the matchmaking is known to be bad at the moment and everybody is experiencing the same thing. The bad news is there's nothing you can do about it except wait until the new MMR matchmaking is reactivated and hopefully things will improve. In the meantime, playing at peak times when there are likely to be more people online in your region could help, as the main reason for the system to be placing you with high ranked players is because there aren't enough survivors at your own rank available.

Thanks mate. I tried peak times and I didn't see a difference.

The paranoid in me wonders if it's high level players queuing with a low level player/new account to roflstomp newbies - and I wish I was crazy here, but there is usually a pattern. 2-3 very high level accounts and one lower.

Yeah, hope the matchmaking or what have you gets fixed soon, because ...I really want to like this game.

  • @DWolfAlpha said:

The match making right now is based on what killer you're playing. Your first few ranks are usually going to be against other low rank players. After that, the mmr should be in place. But if you switch killers, it won't know how good you are with that killer. Play the same killer for awhile and you should start to play against survivors more suited to your skill level with that killer. Unfortunately, that means you'll have a few bad games in the meantime

Thanks. I hoped that was what was going on, so I decided to stick to a single killer for a bit. I didn't change, except that I went from seeing lots of purple with the odd green to lots of red with the odd purple.
