Skill based matchmaking works well... The game is just heavily survivor favored. Most competent people knew that well before MMR, though. This is nothing new.
I was actually surprised at how good the SBMM was, and I feel it's a little too good. imo however it goes to show why an mmr based matchmaking system doesn't work well in this game. I think the games I've been having since mmr have been more fair, but way less fun. The outcome of every match just seems like "I'm gonna get a 2k and there's nothing I can do about it." and if I do try get better, it just raises me until I get 2ks again.
Rarely now does it feel like I get devastated by a swf or mop the floor with survivors. And that lack of uncertainty of how a match will go makes the game feel kind of bland. Also the mm system promotes smurfing too.

Oh no. Not someone trying to shame a build !!! Shouldn't you be in school or something, kiddo ? Grow up please
bet they think Ruin is toxic, kek
-
from what I've heard other killers say:
tbagging and flashlight clicking are toxic. They only have meaning if you give it one. I don't understand how people get so unbelievably angry at a survivor hitting the crouch button a few times. And if anything it's almost like a mindgame, if a survivor gets inside your head by merely crouching and you start playing poorly due to frustration, the survivor has effectively won a mindgame against you. And in turn made it easier for them to escape.
If a survivor couching a few times at the exit gate makes you upset, then I'm sorry but the issue isn't with the survivor.

Whatever you say sheep build killer. 🐑
sheep are cool. Cute, fluffy and most important tasty. I dont see the issue here
-
Premonition and Forced Penance. Not because they're op, but because they're so unbelievably useless. There are so many better alternatives these two perks just suck.
As for everybody saying NOED, I gotta disagree. Most people seem to think "once the gens are all done, we win. the killer lost" like no, you've only won when you've left the trial, until then you need to be prepared for anything. And NOED is one of those things. You can do bones, and there's no shortage of tools to help you with that from maps, to perks and even just game knowledge. NOED is more of a penance to survivors who failed to do bones and almost always they never even consider the possibility of it. So realistically, who's the issue, the killer who is running a perk that is very much viable for late game pressure and comebacks. Or the survivors who neglected it most likely in ignorance.

ehhhhhhh kinda going into a gray area there.
Because if Pyramid Head counts as "ranged" than wouldn't that make Nemesis ranged? Their aggressive potential operates in very similar ways, the only difference is one is slower and more clunky but can go through walls and the other is quicker and more responsive but doesn't go through walls. The range between them is only separate by 2 meters so you can hardly say that one is all that much longer than the other (although yes it does make a difference in capability, but not enough to mark them as so entirely different categorically). Hell, the Demogorgon's Shred covers a greater distance than both of those killers- standing at 11 meters total, so does that make Demogorgon a ranged killer?
The resulting haziness is why I didn't include Pyramid Head into the list. The characters I've listed are undeniably ranged killers because their powers cover significant distances and can circumvent different obstacles on the map in the process. Whereas the latter three mentioned in this very comment raise some confusion and questions about who falls under what category and is certainly debatable. The mere fact that it is debatable is why I didn't include them.
I suppose you could call killers like PH and Nemesis "close ranged" killers, but that almost seems like a kind of oxymoron which defeats the purpose of a ranged killer in the first place. Your first thought of a ranged killer is someone who can kill from greater distances, not because they can pull some fancy shmancy whatever so long as you're under an eight meter threshold.
8 meters is not an unsubstantial range to have. Even against Nemesis who can only reach out to 6 at T3. I thini comparing it to Demo is kissing the point, as Punishment of The Damned obviously goes through walls. Then, if you stack the double range addons, you get some pretty ridiculous reach with him. And given how subpar the rest of Pyramid Heads addons are, the double range are easily the best.

It's strange because this is the one killer archetype that I think they've probably exhausted. There are a finite number of things you can do with range that actually breach into unique areas that haven't been done before. Pinhead, for example, is one of those killers.
But really all the major categories have been covered. You've got a longer ranged "sniper" killer in the form of Huntress, you've got a deadlier at shorter ranges killer with Deathslinger, you've got your increased fire rate killer with Trickster, you've got your mindless splash zone ranged attack in Plague (although it is only available for a limited time), and your eccentric "hits from odd angles" ranged killer in Pinhead.
I just can't quite imagine how much more there is there that doesn't just repeat concepts from preexisting killers. I'm not sure
you forgot the anitloop power of Pyramid Head D:
I'm not saying I know what they could add. Just saying that's the type of killer I want more of.
-
I want more ranged killers as they're the ones I tend to gravitate toward and enjoy more.

Sweet, that combo means that you'll want to get that trap off as soon as possible instead of sitting on a generator with an inactive trap.
And if you've got an active trap on your head, you don't have the time to search for plaything.
And the thing about Pig and plaything: if she was intent on search for boxes instead of you, she still can do so undetectable, crouched. While Oblivious you still can see her stain if she's standing (not to mention she's easier to spot then too)
I think it's important to note too, while they're oblivious, they may stumble into you on accident as you patrol the map while not crouching.

what I've been doing. Just havign fun with insidious noed builds where I sit in basement the whole game. Curious survivors enter, however none shall leave. gotten a mostly positive result from survivors so far :p

I can't say I was it's biggest, fan but I didn't hate it either. I feel more maps should take notes from its bushes tho. The fact you could actually stealth it out by crouching in a bush was awesome. and sometimes hilarious

well yes, if gens are flying by and a killer has no kill, it makes sense to tunnel and camp as it's a very effective way of securing kills. People need to stop complaining about killers trying to win. what else do you want the killer to do? chase every single survivor until they're death hook to kill them?

@DoomedMind said:
This is why totems are actually good, let me explain.
Totems spots can be everywhere on the map, either super well hidden or in plain sight. That's where their strengths is.
When searching for hexes, survivors have to go to every spot possible in the map, turning around every rock they see,... Robbing a lot of time.
If they were only good spots for totems, these would be limited, and survivors would just have to remember like... Maybe 10-15 spots per map ?
But yeah, sometimes you get good spots, sometimes not, that's how hexes work.
ahh yes, I love it when my Ruin is cleansed in 30 seconds because it's in the middle of the open. No you're missing the point, I'm not saying just remove the open totems. I'm saying remove them AND add more well hidden totems. They're supposed to be a second objective for survivors to spend time on. Not to be cleansed in the first few seconds of the game, rendering you with 3 perks. And let me assure you. If I take note of every time my Hex is broken within 90 seconds of the game starting. It'll be an overwhelming majority.
-
I hate it when killers play optimally 😩

Well, they mentioned an auto-ban system a while back...
an auto-ban system wouldnt be the worst of ideas. I'm sure it couldnt be too difficult to have in game checks where if it detects something that shouldn't be physically possible like a perk being used multiple times, or survivors changing health states too fast etc. Especially if they can have these checks happen server side it should HEAVILY limit the cheaters. A similar system is used in War Thunder, they have server side game checks where if it detects an action happening that shouldn't be possible due to ingame values, then the game wont let it happen. So if a tank with a 5 second reload fired every 1 second, the server would catch that and just not let the shot be registered.
-
Autoheaven maps without a doubt. Love playing every second of those maps. Especially Bloodlodge which was and continues to be my favourite map in the game. a close runner up would have to be Gideon Meat Plant. I do really enjoy the map in terms of how it plays. However I admit the main reason I like it is because of all the Saw references throughout the map.
-
I do feel maybe it's time BHVR try and expand the team a little bit, with a dedicated team for dealing with reports and hacking issues, providing they dont already. Or even just updating their anti-cheat. But I imagine it's not all that simple.

Asymmetry is not balance. That's the point of it.
I think that's the wrong way of looking at asymmetry. I think the better way of looking at it is, think of the killer as a block of copper, and think of the survivors as 4 blocks of lead on a balance. Despite the block of Copper being much bigger in size and asymmetrical to the 4 small blocks of lead, they hold the same amount of weight. This game is just trying to find that balance where the 1 copper block = 4 lead blocks.
-
not using an item just sounds like a player issue. It's not like there's ever a shortage of opportunities to use an item. when you load into a match with an item, you run the risk of dying and losing it. Besides, items are far from hard to get in the bloodweb, so what's the issue?

I don't main them, but originally i thought i'd never play nurse because she's way too different. Now that i've gotten the hang of her a bit more, i am really enjoying her.
Pro Tip: Even if it feels like a chore, you may want to play a game or two of her fairly often. mechanical skill with Nurse can disappear almost over night

The Plague. When played right, its truly impossible to not get value out of her power.
Fun Fact: thanatophobia should always be used in her builds. It encourages survivors to cleanse, which means more corrupt purge for you.
I... never thought of that. You get value from the perk when it's not being used... Give me some of those IQ points plz

I'm sorry, do you mean ignorant? I don't see what's arrogant about what I said. If so, how is it ignorant to not have perfect knowledge of a topic? I dont claim to know everything, and sure if I'm wrong, you can simply say so instead of being so aggressive...

tunnleing has always been one of the best strategies. the sooner you get a kill, then the harder it is for the other 3 to pull a W.

Someones never heard of 3rd party hardware for console....... it's not as big of a influx as PC cheaters, but def still happens for those that don't want to buy a PC, you're arrogant if you think cheating doesn't happen on consoles, even switches
I don't appreciate being called arrogant, but ok. I still think the amount of cheaters in the game is well overstated. Not to say they dont exist of course. But I think they still make a very, very small minority of the playerbase. I myself am yet to meet even one hacker in my entire playtime, and as have my friends too.

idk, the influx of blatant cheating is on the rise lately with the latest patch
oh I know that, there are plenty of cheaters, however they make such a small minority of players I guarantee it's nothing that would have meaningful impact on the size of the playerbase. Also please consider that's only the players on Steam, it doesnt account for players on console of which literally 0% of are cheaters.

Did I say make an official statement? No. I said, LITERALLY, "This is false, we'll make a statement at the next dev blog."
That takes 15 seconds of time to stop people going HMM I WONDER WHAT BHVR IS UP TO. You clearly have never worked in any capacity in PR. You're always at work
Alright, even still. There's such a small chance of them learning about the issue while off work. Even people who actively play the game have had no idea what was going on. I didnt know until I seen a thread about somebody being banned and I looked into it. So if it's hard for players to learn about what's going on, how do you think it is for people WHO ARE LITERALLY ON HOLIDAYS FROM WORK to learn about anything to do with it?
You want to know what BHVR are up to? OFF WORK ENJOYING TIME WITH THEIR FAMILIES

well if you honestly believe a company will make an official statement while on holiday, I got a bridge to sell you. Also, you realise the developers lives aren't just DBD right? Most likely they do nothing to associate themselves with the game while out of work.

"This is false, closing the topic, we will have a statement next dev stream." Is how you handle this if you're innocent. You don't ban the people bringing the information to the public.
Literal coverup 101 is banning/slandering the individuals who bring anything you do to light.
Well you realise it's a holiday weekend for the folks at BHVR right? why would they make a statement about making a statement when none of them are at work? Also if this is such a big "conspiracy" answer me why the website where buy the NFTs or whatever has really ######### photoshop, and answer me why they say they've worked with Dead By Daylight and not BHVR. You don't collaborate with an IP. Doing some personal thinking really helps instead of just following the trend of what others say

Guess I'll be that guy. By YOUR own logic. "Protection hits arnt toxic as they're a scores event and part of the game"
Let's take a look real quick
Tunneling ? - You get points for downing a survivor. Regardless on if they were just hooked. My "lethal rush down" My "precise/lethal blink' are scored all the same
Camping ? - I get points for putting you on the hook/sacrificing you. It's a scored event. I'm allowed to be anywhere on the map I want to be. If that happens to be in your face. So be it.
Slugging ? - Again...I get points for downing you. How long you stayed down is irrelevant. It's still a scored event
none of those are toxic anyway, they're ways of playing the game that are labelled toxic because it hurt some survivors feely weelys
