  • I would rather deal with SB, and lose a chase before it even started, than deal with DH and its ######### hit validation. Way more respect to whoever is using SB as well to smooth sprint themselves into a jungle gym.

Did it, or are people just blaming every unfun experience on MMR because it's a popular thing to do? Because let's be honest, this game has always had its unfun, absolutely BS moments before it was implemented.

If anything, I think boons (particularly CoH) have played the biggest role in making the game unfun for killer. It just so happens that they came around the same time as MMR. They had a direct effect on the time efficiency tug of war that favors survivors far too much on certain maps. As for survivor, it's the same as usual: camping and tunneling (and sweaty Nurses I guess), which is probably on the rise because of boons and because people just can't accept losing (especially now that they have to protect their invisible MMR for whatever reason), whether it be to misplays they'll never admit to or plain bad luck & DbD being an unbalanced mess.

MMR isn't the real problem, though it is a flawed system. It's just a punching bag for every other problem in the game, which would still exist if MMR was removed/improved.

^This. They could remove MMR today, turn it off and never turn it back on again and the game would still be just as a big of a mess. A mess that gets compiled and compacked more and more every 3 months with the addition of even more perks (why perks are being utilized as the only thing to balance the game out I don't know) they have to rekit replan and rebalance every time because they don't have a general ruleset for whats possible, and whats not possible. No caps. Heal speed cap, gen regression cap, move speed cap, etc etc. Where are the parameters in this game to make sure that anything you add into it doesn't shoot the whole damn game off the rails.

"People have given tons of legit criticisms on why the game is not in the best state" Ok, lets look at some of the most popular complaints shall we?

Matchmaking? Always has been terrible, but we literally have people acting like they're a victim just because they're going against people their own skill level

CoH? Self Care used to be better and much better when it comes to time efficiency, not to mention healing speeds in general were faster (took 12 seconds instead of 16)

Maps being terrible? Used to be even worst as the majority of maps used to be larger, had much stronger loops and an even bigger number of pallets. Not to mention the only killers that had mobility back then were Nurse and Billy, Hag had such a short teleport range and set up time that it just wasn't worth it, and Wraiths Windstorm add ons just gave him a speed boost after uncloaking at the cost of his movement speed when uncloaking.

Stale Meta? Used to be even worst! DS/BT/Exhaustion/Self Care. "Hey that sounds like todays meta!" Well you'd be right! Except everything used to be much stronger, DS not needing a hook and no timer, BT working on both the person unhooked and the savior while also providing Endurance for a much longer time and a much longer bleed out timer, Exhaustion being able to be recovered while running making you have to possibly deal with more than 1 Sprint Bursts or Dead Hard on that 1 pesky survivor you refuse to let go.

Same goes for killers, since back then you only really had Ruin, NOED, Enduring, Brutal, Whispers and Nurses. BBQ only got added towards the end of the true dark times.

The only reason why this game survived is because of how unique it is, if it stayed the way it was before then it would of died 100%. Not only was it an ACTUAL unbalanced mess but it was buggy as all hell. Not to mention p2p which had people abusing lagswitches and it wasn't all that uncommon.

All the complaints that I and many others had from back then are gone, the game has grown, the community turned into a bunch of babies

You literally just compared trash to trash with these statements...I don't see how that gets us anywhere comparing what was dogshit back then to whats dogshit now...both of them smell like ######### so none of them are better?

Matchmaking was trash before....it didn't get any better when they hyped us up on MMR because balance was broken before they even introduced it. Comp players knew this, which is why tournament rules (RULES THAT EXISTED BEFORE MMR) put such a heavy slant against survivors....like cmon...its common knowledge.

Healing speeds before were broken, so much they needed to do a full rework on healing time, change the way mangled worked, and change a bunch of other healing debuffs. COH just undid the balance pass they already did to healing....like ######### was the point of nerfing self care and changing up insta heals etc....

Stale meta, and you bring up again...things that were busted back then that got fixes later. DS being the main culprit, and theres never been a problem with exhaustion perks (yet.....knock on wood knowing BHVR...) We had one instance where you could move in a 360 while casting dead hard and from what I remember that got fixed....(knock on wood again) And people bringing self care into a match even back then was a huge waste of time. Don't even get it twisted, killers loved when survivors would go SC without any botany bonus or anything else and just sit and spin for 15-20 seconds while you make your way to their other team mates because a lot of the time it was a crutch for bad survivors to not save properly and heal and cordinate with their team mates. AKA a solo queue perk.

Either way it goes...We could sit here for an hour going over what was trash back then, and whats trash now....problem is....why the hell are we still giving excuses for the trash in either timeline like its a good thing? Like ######### are we actually doing?

I'll call your bet, All the complaints that we had from back then are gone....if we pretend they're all gone. But if we actually...and I mean DEEPLY look critically into whats going on now...ITS LITERALLY NO DIFFERENT THAN IT WAS 5 YEARS AGO! 1 Step forward....2 steps back <--Bro...this is literally Korean Micro transaction game logic. 1 Patch to address player concerns, and another 2 patches afterwards to completely ######### up and create new problems you just fixed...

Just fixed healing...no problem lets ######### it up by introducing broken ass healing perks.

Just fixed map size....no problem...lets ######### it up by having our algorithm generate tripple T walls with windows and create cancerous ass maps like RPD.

Just fixed pallets.....no problem....lets ######### it up by adding ridiculous hit validation adding back in pallet vaccumes from 15 meters away.

Just fixed P2P latency by making dedicated servers! No problem! LETS JUST ######### IT UP BY ADDING IN HIT VALIDATION THAT COSTS YOU A STUN WHEN IT WORKS AND NOBODY EVEN GETS HURT WHO NEEDS TO LAG SWITCH WHEN THE GAME DOES IT FOR YOU!

Make it make sense my guy, we both been here a long time....make it make sense...

Im sure all of you have noticed the incessant debates and general animosity between the two different roles dominating the discourse on these forums. Its obvious that this game is not in a healthy state at the moment. This might just be the squeaky wheels moaning after a tough game but I think we need at least take a listen to what both sides are saying and ultimately strive towards creating a better experience.

I think what is causing this friction is that lack game mode variety in this game. Right now we only 1 way to queue for games and it has become obvious that this is the source of most of the strife. Casual players, Competitive Players, Solo Players, New Players and Veteran Players are all foisted into the same lobbies causing mismatched games that often lead to substandard game play. If there was a Ranked Mode and a Casual Mode you could more easily pair players with other players who are looking to attain the same style of play. Whether it is highly competitive and strategic matches that are determined by razor thin margins or casual spooky matches that are random and goofy, you are more likely to find a game that you enjoy if you can queue into a mode that best aligns with your gaming philosophy.

Just my suggestion but id love a game mode with a perk randomizer so that both sides get a break from the monotony. You'd see a wider roster of killers when players arent too afraid to play their level 5 Ghost face in the fear of a 4 man SWF squad bullies them for for 30 minutes and holds the game hostage. Likewise you'd probably see a lot less sweaty Spirits in Casual allowing survivors the freedom to play against a wider variety of killers. Even something like a limited HUD mode with no perks would be kinda of cool.

I know in some ways this is a pipe dream. The player base is simply too small to segment the few who remain into different queues. But if this problem is not addressed I dont see this game retaining a fan base at all except for those ardent few who truly enjoy this game. Lets face it this game is fairly impenetrable for new players and if my friends hadnt gotten me this far I would have moved on after playing for like 3 hours. That being said, even this far into this games release I think it has potential to be a really fun and unique experience.

It'll never happen because there's always some bullshit excuse from either the devs or the players themselves that it can't happen.

    Excuses include....

It would make the queues longer. (cause playing the same thing on repeat and people quitting doesn't already do that)

It would take a balanced game. (Which I agree with....funny how that hasn't happened yet though.)

It would take time away from balancing the game. (I agree....which if that was true...why isn't the game balanced yet?)

The games code isn't good, a new mode would break the game. <---So leaving it bad is the alternative?

When you actually listen closely to the excuses people come up with for alternative modes, it actually shows why there hasn't been anything truly new in this game for 5 years. Self defeating prophecy seems lethal here.

  • @BreadTube said:

If they added something crazy like every could fly or a 2v8 mode, too many people would complain. Also events like that would take up time that could be spent balancing the game

Ummm.... 2v8 DBD is probably the most fun you could ever have in a match low key.

For anyone who's ever tried it when it was bugged, its pretty fun stuff. Buggy because of how they handle killer assets, but hella fun.

Guessing which direction they move in at the beginning, obviously. :P

For 9 seconds of knowledge at the start of a trial, its not worth it imo. I'd just run BBQ instead, shows you whats actually important, or that one perk that gives aura reading to dull totems...brain skipping a beat on the name of that one, been a while...

Just knowing they spawn X distance away at certain angles isnt consistent or guaranteed.

Your formula cant tell you if somebody spawned on your Hex. Nor does it tell you who spawned alone and who spawned in a group.

The info I glean from Lethal can still be used after first chase sometimes as well

Sometimes survivors spawn just outside your terror radius behind a rock. Without Lethal I'm not really going to waste time checking to see if someone is crouched near me.

Being able to know for sure I can abandon Hex Ruin is a beautiful feeling.

If someone spawned on my hex and I didn't prep any kind of protection It doesn't matter, theres not much I can do about that cause they know where it is. General rule....if 1 guy sees it, all survivors see it. Don't care if solo or not, I go into every trial with that mindset. As far as them being alone or in a group I got 3 proximities at the general direction of the survivors spawn, you take a look> mark out 3 gens> go to it>unless its a blendette you got no worries since survivors clothes stick out like christmas lights>move to the flush>boom chase started>boom chase ended>still have use of all 4 perk slots.

Thats momentum without lethal. With lethal all you're doing is running that same process without any of the thinking behind it. Move to press chase>10 seconds> boom start chase>end chase <---your information is dead by this point. And you're down a whole ######### perk slot.

^ Thats the biggest flaw of the perk. Its total use is dead in 10 seconds, gone, dead slot, never again, poof, mid game deleted, end game deleted....game deleted. You'd have better use out of whispers than you would lethal. Matter of fact you'd have better use out of Bitter Murmer.

Theres way better info perks, and I'd have to put lethal at the bottom since information is multiplicative, and Lethal stops at 9 seconds. Removing the fact that you even have info outside of 1 chase at the start of each match 1 time...that one chase isn't going to win the match or provide enough info over time. Its a great tutorial perk....thats about it though.

Why guess when you can take the guesswork out of the precious early game time you have? :P

What guess work do you need? Survivors always spawn X amount distance away from you, and usually you start spawned facing the opposite direction of where a group is depending on where you spawned in at on certain maps. (kinda tough on the game map, and Myers map though) Plus theres always at least 1 idiot holding sprint at the start of a trial. That leaves you with a screen full of 3 proximities to check at the start of each match, if its an open map you can drive straight down the middle and pick up even faster. I usually get my first chase spotted within ~ 10 seconds of a match without lethal. Its just like counting cards in Vegas.

That wasn't the question, and it's very important to understand the difference between that statement and the question actually aired. See, the one in that clip actually had a really long preamble about how the question asker was feeling burnt out, didn't feel as though killer was feared anymore, perceived it to be frustratingly unbalanced, and then asked effectively "what are you going to do to fix that for me".

The answer in that situation is that the question asker needed to take a break. Period. The answer "Take a break, play some survivor for a bit or heck, play something else" was a straightforwardly correct one, there is nothing wrong with it from any perspective other than a cynical business angle (where, to be fair, it's not a good business move to tell people to play something other than your game, no matter how correct you would be to say it).

Now, if the original question hadn't been so loaded, whiny, and frustrated, I'd have supported tacking on something about future plans to the end of that correct answer, but given what the question actually was, you don't want to encourage and support that approach, so probably for the best on that front.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvRMd7aQ5v4

Bruh....if you're gonna answer community questions to the tune of thousands of players, the last thing you ever wanna do is tell people to go play something else. Everybody eyerolled his response even Not_Queen. An editor off cam was even cringing like "Nah fam....this ain't the play chief".

The answer to that question wasn't supposed to be "GTFO"

It was supposed to be (if they cared) "We're looking into balance" <---at the very least.

The reason why he got memed out of the water is because his response to player frustration with the game was just to make a joke of it. Kinda like how they've handled things thus far. AKA Dismissing player concerns. Doesn't matter how the person who played it phrased their view or experience, you don't just tell the customer to go to Best Buy unless you wanna end up non existant like Radio Shack.

Terrible customer service will have you lose money before you even open your mouth to make a sale. Good customer service will make someone buy what they came for and something extra for a friend especially if you help someone solve a problem, they'll stick with you for life after that. If bad customer experiences are met by jokes, BHVR is going to get meme'd on with that same energy....period. Now if BHVR were doing GODS WORK, fixing every bug, going above and beyond, best customer service, most based ideas for fixes, always on point, always great balance, etc etc, they wouldn't get negatively meme'd on instead they'd end up like Gabe Newell as some kind of Lord and Savior of video games across the universe... PRAISE GABEN!

I can’t seem to be able to remove it from my builds because it helps me out so much. What are players thoughts on the perk?

You're crutching it too hard and not paying attention to the initial load of each map. All the spawns are pretty much the same. Use it to learn those spawns, but don't rely on it after you've learned them.

  • @Canas said:

I've seen all kinds of developers and the way they deal with their community from playing many different online games in the past but BHVR really takes the cake when it comes to ignoring its own playerbase. I don't even see them come to the forums anymore, it's just the mods who seem to perform damage control whenever threads get out of control but that's it.

It's extremely obvious that the game is in an abyssmal state right now (with boon totems/CoH being the worst offender) and yet we didn't get a single change to address this issue when The Artist came out. You'd expect at least SOMETHING after 3 months.

It's just regular business as always, ignoring killers and cashing in on gullible folks who buy this game on a whim just to drop it later anyway since the new player experience is absolutely horrendous. I've seen so many killers recently (on the forums and on YouTube) who picked up the game after being begged to try it just to be massively disappointed. MMR is flatout not working, another great issue which has persisted how long now since its introduction? Six months?

For those who decide to endure the painful learning curve this game has they still arrive at the same conclusion they had at the very beginning: this game is neither fun nor balanced. If you try to catch any of the devs on Twitch they will lock themselves behind chat settings which require your account to be verified just to make any contact with them even harder. And the occasional community streams with their Q&A segments feature cherrypicking at its worst when it comes to answering actual questions relevant to the health of the game.

Just watch as the devs will ignore this thread, too. Their twitter only exists to post memes anyway, not even once have they responded to REAL questions from the community. The regular art retweets are nice and all but they do NOT solve the issues this game has.

Nah theres a whole slew of Korean developers who are way more distant. That isn't to say BHVR is some god send, but theres waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay worse.

more of a general serial killer. i dont want any based on real killings seems exploitative

You already play 3 killers based on real killings. Scream was a mass killing spree in Gainsville florida, Leatherface was based on some sick killings in Texas, and Freddy was based on a kid who actually died in his sleep in the middle of a nightmare.

^ Fun fact, a lot of Slasher killers and horror ghost stories that come from horror in the US are based on actual events.

  • @Lochnload_exe said:

We are now going to have 3 japanese-based killers, and I am all for it (let's just pray they actually do something unique for the power). I would still love some other cultures to get some highlights too though. So many cool cultures out in the world that feels so ignored in a lot of media, especially in terms of cryptids or folk monsters.

I still would love some native American culture added. Such cool monsters and beings that could be great for DBD, and would be so sweet as we just don't have much in media. Just hope other killers or characters get some more love, feels like we just escaped a kidnapping after the amount of trickster stuff was fed to us.

Folklore around the world is great.....but

Problem is though. Most of the time it doesn't have any kind of interesting content created for it. Be it music, movies, TV series. Japan is known for its Iconic horror and adaptations of folklore, so its no wonder they have a huge roster of famous creatures in folklore etc. Same thing with the United States and its thriller Killers. Some of them (points to leatherface) are based on actual killers in real life.

I can count on 1 hand horror creatures from other cultures that have managed to make any significant dent in horror as a whole or having any influence or recognition in the world, 1 of them being Brazil and its weird creatures that come out of the jungle. Everyone else is stuck on stupid tbh, either repeating ideas that are old like Vampires and zombies(Train to Busan etc), or borrowing someone elses idea in another culture and re-releasing it as their own (The Ring, Japanese btw). But its a combination of some of those cultures just simply not being interested in their own folklore enough to spread it, or just downright not being interested in monsters enough to make up a folklore about one.

Between the US, Japan, Mexico, China, South Korea, and Europe, the amount of recognizable monsters and folklore are despicably low. Some countries just straight up look at you like an idiot cause they literally don't have any stories about folk monsters or cryptids that aren't already shared with other cultures...like Bigfoot. Then you got the people that try to force memes by taking something that isn't scary at all, and attempting to make it scary and folklorish....like Attack of the Killer Tomatos. <---MEME of the century. Lucky it came at a time where people had patience for the amount of cornball cheesy scripts back then.

We talk a lot about killers playing less or simply quitting the game, but if you could choose *only one reason* what would it be ?

For me it is dead hard. After 300h+ I realized I would have this perk for every survivor in my games punishing me each time I use my power. The worst is on my nurse when I get fatigue for free after an amazing blink because the survivor pressed one button. Also, it made me stoped playing twins completely which was a killer I enjoyed a lot.

    What about you ?

Boons were my last straw. Too many mechanics overlapping over 1 resource was just too much. Especially when they release interesting totem perks for killer recently in patches prior to boons coming out. The MMR system, is annoying....but I can handle annoying, I been handling annoying on this game for years. But the boon totems and the random nerfs of my secondary killers, the dog trash hit validation, and just garbage state of the game, I can handle annoying....but I can't handle disrespect. And BHVR isn't respecting people who play killers time or money so, they can get bent for all I care. And at the same time theres rumor of "The Ring" coming to DBD, and when I heard it....I couldn't feel anything. Its my most anticipated chapter in this game and....I've never felt so unexcited by something I anticipated so heavily....

The reason this game has been kept alive this long is because people can play it with their friends as a party game.

So you admit that the rest of the game is trash outside of that fact or what?

Cause by your logic, if SWF is the only reason people are still playing this game and spending money on it....whats the point of the rest of the game?

By your logic, Solo Queue survivors, and Killers, and the balance of the rest of the game are both secondary in importance to SWF.

And by sheer deductive reasoning, you've uknowingly admitted that SWF is not only OP since its the only draw keeping the game alive, but also gaslit the DBD devs by affirming their approach for the game is to do nothing other than cater to SWF mode.

    At least you're being honest.

  • @DbDPlaya said:

I don't believe that the game is actually ''free.'' Sure, it is technically free for the end consumer to claim. I highly believe that for each copy of Dead by Daylight claimed by an Epic Games Store user, Epic is paying BHVR per game key.

At least this is how it happened with the Grand Theft Auto V when Epic Games was giving out free copies of it back in 2020. They still paid Rockstar Games for each ''free'' copy.

Even though BHVR won't disclose/admit this, it is very likely that they are getting paid. The ''free giveaway'' decision was probably Epic's idea. Then they consulted to BHVR and they were probably like ''meh, whatever go ahead.''

I'd like to hear people's opinion on this though.

Also because of this, the inevitable cheater situation has risen as there is no downside of getting banned from a game that you claimed for free.

We paid users are glad that the base game is not a free game at all. And I hope that in the future, BHVR never decides to make the PC version a permanently free game.

Its a net positive for epic game store when they do free games. They may pay out a few million every year for it, but it garners them way more in users and overall marketshare compared to steam. You could say its.....pay 2 win. And honestly, its worked out for them pretty successfully. That being said DBD likely got paid a significant amount to run the promotion.

And I haven't noticed this up until now, but since Epic has been pushing these free games and getting me to use that store I haven't bought a single game on steam in damn near over a year....#########...

Speaking as someone who plays about 70% killer, the current NOED just feels so cheap and unrewarding to use. Not to mention extremely un fun to go against as a survivor

We’re also in the “99” meta right now where survivors will complete 99% of the exit gates so they’re essentially open and ready for everyone to escape, but without the pressure of the end game collapse or killer perks like Blood Warden

So how about if we kill two birds with one stone and reworked Hex: No One Escapes Death into a perk that automatically starts regressing the exit gates once a survivor stops working on them, and maybe also made the person opening them Exposed just to spice things up

This would force survivors to either fully open the gates or risk everyone dying if the killer chases them back to the now partially regressed exit gates

another idea would be to maybe add in a hook prerequisite on top of that similar to No Way Out. So if you hook 1 survivor the gates will regress a maximum of 20%, 2 hooks 30%, 3 hook 40% and if you hook all survivors at least once you’re guaranteed 50% regression (providing they don’t just open them straight away that is)

I think this would be much healthier for the game and a much more rewarding perk than the current NOED

So you want the killer, to waste an entire perk slot, in order to encourage survivors to open the exit gates fully.....

As if end game builds weren't already trash enough, you want to make them even worse?

This is the worst Idea I've heard for a perk since.....ever actually #########.

Then you had the audacity to talk about "healthier state" when hex perks as a whole are in the gutter. Yall are actually wild bruh....

  • ^ Anybody gonna tell this guy the color of your rank is not your MMR and just your time played?

Literal "trash talk." I've been called trash twice. The first time, I probably deserved. I'm pretty sure I got someone off the hook then ran away, leaving them to die. The second time, just now, I was playing a new character (the Nurse) trying to get in a daily challenge. I did terrible. So yeah, maybe I did deserve it that time too. The difference between these two times was how I responded. The first time I responded with "Thanks" and he said "You're welcome" and then we were fine. The second one, I responded with "#########" and now my stomach hurts. I'm sure there's a lesson in there somewhere.

Only the weakest players to ever touch a video game dare talk ######### about a person who does poorly at nurse. She is quite possibly one of the most difficult characters to play in video games. And most people will talk smack about a bad nurse, but won't dare pick up a controller or keyboard and walk the walk. So take it as them deflecting on their own personal experience with nurse when they say things like that.

Baffling that this is still possible, but that's the best you can do for now.

Goddamn, how is this thread still going? It's embarrassing that the biggest thread ever on the forums has still not been properly addressed.

Behavior really needs to just stop giving us their trademark "we're looking into it" response and actually start fixing this issue.

I ask myself the same thing everytime it pops up. Yet....here we are.

Honestly the best thing they can do ... is just stop letting survivors hold the game hostage Id say if the match goes on for longer then 10 min or so ... or what ever the reasonable amount of time it is ... the killer can just end the game by opening the gate and to force the game timer to countdown. I mean give the killer the means to end the game rather then letting survivors holding the cards to that means ... often time i get frustrated and then open the gate for them cuz i respect that i lost and they have won ... i want to Surrender the match so i can do another match ... but often time they do pity card and try to troll ..

if the killer open the gate ... Just go over and juke him and leave ... most time killer are frustrated with your group and doesnt want to play anymore

IF any suriviors are seeing these toxic plays do us killer a favor and shame your fellow team-mates ... Less killer mean more Que times for you ... but respecting killers and giving us a positive Reinforcement goes for a long way ... If any suriviors feel the need to be mad that they died to killer ... wait til the match end and ill be willing to give pointers ... I main Huntress because i love her playstyle its simple and its fun.

This kind of gameplay shouldn't be happening in the first place though. There shouldn't be a reason to just quit in the middle of a match because things are going "poorly" if anything the incentive should be to "Play until we all fall down". The fact that they even had to add an anti hostage measure for killers speaks mountains on the direction of the game. If it isn't exciting and engaging for people to play all the way through regardless of whats going on.....then its a bad game.

I'm not gonna sugar coat it, devs don't need a pat on the back or us to make excuses for it. If the overall goal is to make a great game, let it be to make one of the greatest games of all time. Checking out for mediocrity just....sucks. The game should be engaging from the time you press ready to the time the score pops up. Those two sections should be the most boring experience you ever have in DBD, but instead, we get "the most boring experience in DBD" while playing DBD...Survivors walking around bored from just holding M1, killers walking around bored from impossible match ups to win.

Between bad balance, bad matchmaking, and poor quality of life decisions with the grind, its a set up for disaster.

If this games only problem was "Oh man theres some glitches, and the characters skins and models sometimes look ugly" NOBODY WOULD BE UPSET. But it can't be that simple. Instead we get core fundamental processes of the game that are borked that can't be ignored as easily as "aw Claudettes hair looks like trash".

IMO just on the grind issue, they should scale up your BP rewards based on how many chapters are being released over the course of the games lifespan. Everytime they release a new chapter, your default blood points max per game should shoot up to match all the new stuff added. For MMR, they need to ditch their current implimentation and actually sit down and do the math on every single aspect of what can happen during a game and tally up totals that go toward your ability to do those things in game. Doesn't matter if you're chasing someone or being chased, doesn't matter if you're hiding, doesn't matter if you're hooking people or being hooked. Every aspect needs to be charted, not just "the most significant" <---cause you can significant your ass into a brick wall and tunnel vision yourself into the worst MMR system ever devised because you left out all the information that lead up to that significant point. Just some things I wish BHVR would handle.

But I've checked out already for the most part. I reserve my faith in them till I see results.

The reason why I'm asking is that I normally play survivor during the daytime and killer at night. However, at night, when I want to grab some food or do a challenge I play a few survivor games as the longer survivor queue gives me time.

Normally, I only occasionally get stomped as survivor once or twice (and sometimes that's just a solo queue issue) and then the next few games are fine; a few escapes, a few I get sacrificed but I get to play and have fun. Recently, my waits have gotten longer though and when I do get matched with a killer it's not the intermediate level killer; it's the full gen slowdown build that's, honestly, kind of wasted since it's not a bug, meet windshield game due to the killer's skill it's more of a bug meet windshield and then get your remains thrown in a woodchipper type game.

Do you think this is more of an issue due to problems with the killer role causing killers to drop out? Are newer killers becoming discouraged and dropping out? Or is this more of an issue with MMR mechanics?

Less killers available to fill lower level responsibilities = survivors going up against sweaty killers more often. I like to compare it to the economy. Less workers to fill the demands of a society=a society with less filled demands. Hurts survivors in your instance because it makes your games overall worse as in your scenario putting you up against full gen slow down sweat in an MMR range that doesn't really call for it or need it.

I warned about this kinda thing before, but nobody really listens to killers outside of ignoring our feedback as "an excuse" or "git gud" or "just whining". End of the day all it does is upset the balance and you end up with situations like yours. Low level killers simply stop giving a damn at some point and either give up entirely or go play survivor.

    1. The sweat of killer role right now isn't appealing to new killers.
    2. The grind required to "git gud" involves a massive grind that gets exponentially longer every new patch to strive toward perks which pushes new killers away since every killer you play you need to get every single perk you used to use over again. Unlike survivor where you can just pick a main, and get everything in the game. All survivors play exactly the same so you don't need to grind over and over again.
    3. MMR handling for new killers puts them up against people with 1000+ hours for no reason and SWF's. Which, if you've never been bullied as a killer, depending on the severity, you can make a person quit the role entirely. And I wish I was joking.

Put all of that together and new killer retention rates drop, and survivors have to face the try hards who will not budge as killer and play RIDICULOUSLY SWEATY every single game, AKA killers who have thousands of hours, know every loop and counter etc, AKA you get to play against Marth or Angrypug and "pros" every game.

But yeah without a doubt newer killers are dropping out, I've watched them make quitting posts....

I wish we would get an extra application of DBD on console (like PUBG for example) so we can also experience PTBs which then would prevent game breaking updates on console aswell like the Resident Evil chapter back then..

Thats how most games on epic game store run their PTB's its just an extra add on or extra game added to the store. No idea why BHVR doesn't plan on doing both considering the amount of bugs that pop up on console, and now a new epic store client thats bound to have its own issues.

You need addons to be able to injure/down ppl with a swarm on them. Addons that lower the cd and increase swarm duration.

That said, I don't think she is S tier. More like A tier. She is good, but nowhere near in the same park as nurse. I already had bully SWF destroy me so...

    1. Again, do you know how many times my Survivor friends have bitched that they dead harded, got the exhaustion debuff, but still wound up on the ground? How absolutely frustrating it is to hear that? Dead Hard gives you invincibility frames - if you hit them during any part of the Dead Hard, it should be invalidated. That's just common sense. Again, what needs to change is the way it's registered on the killer side. Stop showing blood and making impact noises - that gives the impression of hitting the survivor when in reality you missed.
    2. Totems were always secondary objectives for Survivors, and that's good in the long run for the health of the game. One of the biggest complaints about this game is the simple lack of ######### for survivors to do besides hold M1. I firmly disagree that it's existence is the problem - my play style when surviving is more enjoyable for me. By all accounts, I am not a good survivor. But with the ability to go back to a place to heal, I have more confidence in my ability to interact with the killer, and thus have more opportunities to do so. This is better than the stealth gameplay I would normally be forced to adopt, which is admittedly pretty boring.
    3. Hence, I said "I do well for myself". It is subjective.
    4. I didn't make an excuse. DDoSing has been part of the internet and will continue to be part of the internet. It is a tragic, lamentable aspect of our digital age, and a solution hasn't been found yet. Hackers gonna hack, ######### gonna #########.
    5. Sure. But again, I've been playing for thirteen hundred hours and have not encountered a single hacker yet.
    6. RNG gonna RNG.
    7. You are not a game designer, and neither am I, but allow me to stipulate why this is incorrect. Balancing an inherently imbalanced game is going to be downright impossible to do in a way that makes everyone happy.

Also, it's funny that you bring up DOTA and League of Legends, two games with highly competitive scenes. Do you have any idea how small a fraction of the champions in League are even relevant, or see play? Literally half of them will never see any real competitive play - because it's impossible to balance that many champions. Even in casual games, Lux is picked in over 20% of games. Aurelion Sol is picked in .86% of games. There's always going to be a Clown, there's always going to be an Aurelion Sol.

Also, question: "A single member should not have more power ot create more issues for the game than the killer". How do you quantify skill in this? If I get run around for ten minutes, is that a flaw on the part of the game, or a flaw on the part of my skill? You can't have your cake and eat it too - either it's balanced, accounting for skill, or skill has no account in the balance.

And yes, balance is a suicide cult. If something should happen and Aurelion Sol gets hella buffed, Skarner will just be the weakest link. And if he should be buffed, Azir will just be the weakest, etc, etc, et al.

You say that it's not hard to balance. This is why I firmly believe, with no real evidence, that you are not a game designer.

Aight, with the totems thing. Totems are already a secondary objective yes. So whats the point of lazily making their second objective,( killer puts a hex down, survivors goal is to kill the hex, negative effect is then removed, objective completed.) Overlap in both directions on the same object which has limited play already. Boon totems offer yet another objective for killers to focus on besides gens, besides chases. Its lazy because they could have easily just thrown this 3rd objective onto its own object separate from totem mechanics. In its current state its the equivalent of Azir from league of legends being able to turn the enemies tower into a friendly tower....except without any form of decay its permanent. If Azirs swap towers were permanent he'd be the most broken champion in the game, overlapping these totem mechanics is no different. Especially since they're introduced in a way that makes them less interactive than even generators which both sides interact with. Except in the case of generators there are multiple interactions that can take place over gens between both sides. With boons there is no depth...the killer just walks by and kicks it and its gone, interaction over with....secondary objective for both sides then becomes dead. The killer loses any and all interactions with those things yet survivor can still interact shifting said balance of that object to them.....PERMANENTLY. Thats not even close to balanced.

And as far as league champion relevancy every champ has always been viable in competitive play. EVERY SINGLE ONE since season 1! Now, that being said, if you know 1 guy is going to go into a match and insta lock Ashe, he's an Ashe and ADC 1 trick every game, one of the best ADC's in the world. Sure you could ban ashe, or you could let him play ashe, either way, the viability of who you counter pick him with depends on who he picks in the first place. You talk about competative league games but forget every single one of those teams comps are based on initial picks and it trickles down from there. It doesn't make any of those champs less viable. You go Heimerdinger mid, ok fine, even though Kog would be a bad choice against other mids, all of a sudden hes now super viable AP against heim mid with mana management theres ######### all heim can do. <--- But Kog maw wouldn't even be in the discussion if Heim wasn't a pick.

DBD doesn't work like that, instead the devs just add ######### without considering how it stacks up with content thats already in the damn game....

Which is why you see goofy ass videos of Boon Totem stacking and people being able to heal faster than the killer can wipe off its blade and strike again. What even needs to be said anymore after that? They have internal testing so I'll put it this way, if thats their idea of balance and you agree with that then none of us are game developers including BHVR, because nothing that just happened in that instance made a lick of sense past the notepad you printed the idea on.....

As a side note, I used to work on older PVP mmos rebalancing class skills back in the early days. I'll leave it at that cause I don't like being too public on the internet. But I will say this, balance can be achieved on any game....ASSUMING YOU PLAY AND TEST YOUR OWN PRODUCT TO THE HIGHEST DEGREES OF RELEVANCY. If I make a class with polearms as a weapon and all other classes have % scaling and for whatever reason a previous team gave the polearm flat damage scaling when the entire end game pvp scales with % then nothing else need be said. Everyone has access to the same gear by end game except this 1 weapon is gimped and dumb because the numbers didn't make sense out of the gate because Q4 release needed to happen so rush rush rush. Miss me with that. I've seen it too long and for too many years and when devs get complacent about it the players follow suit and just throw what was just developed away because you couldn't take 2 seconds to log into an end game character and actually play test the garbage you just created or lose vision of what the whole design was about in the first place. I'm having flashbacks...

What things are there to exploit nowadays that BHVR gave the green light?

Well hit validation for 1. You used to have to hack and lag switch back in the day to pull some of these stunts off you can do with hit validation by default built into the game, because well, devs gave a greenlight for you to hit someone, do no damage, and then get stunned through the animation while the survivor runs off. Old dead hard used to have a desync exploit that let you move while using it. While ago devs just said meh....put it in there by default. Pallet vacuums used to be an example because it was a short sight of the devs that happened tiny little loophole you could use to your advantage as a survivor. Now every pallet is vacuumed.

It feels like we're moving backwards because the devs keep adding bugs into the game then fix the bug, then go back and add the bug back into the game as a feature....like ######### even....

When you had a full lobby who would roleplay, sure, it was pretty nice

When you had people people with a more competitive mindset? Nah

Literally all the frustrations people have, maps being too big, too many pallets, generators go by too fast and much more, we're even worst back then. Top it off with multiple busted perks and multiple places where if you went down, (unless the killer had Agitation or Iron Grasp) the killer was not gonna be able to bring that person to a hook, Rancid Abaitoir and Ironworks were probably the biggest culprits.

There is so much more that I can't even remember it all, its just all coming back little by little. Its insane how people think the game was in a better state in the past, it was the community.

Yeah but at least back then those were problems within the game "EXPLOITED" by players because it was basically a loophole.

Now adays the devs just straight up give you the broken ass loophole as a part of the game, "Official exploits". Which is 100 times worse because it says they think its ok.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/295708/the-game-has-become-unplayable-for-killers

I have Adept on every killer, 1300 hours played, rank 1(for what little it's worth), 2-3 kills a game, 4 if I'm feeling mean, and I don't get it.

Either I am the luckiest person in the world and I've skipped over all the bullshit, or y'all are blowing this way out of proportion.

    1. You complain about Dead Hard doing it's one of two jobs. How would you like it done? Would you like to see more survivors with exhaustion on the ground? The only change they need to make is to not include the blood or the noise of the successful hit, because it's carrot-and-sticking killers.
    2. Circle of Healing has some problems - in that it completely obsolesces Inner Strength, for example - but the largest problem with Circle of Healing is not Circle of Healing, but Boon Totems in general. But I'm not a game designer, so I can't speak to a solution.
    3. I do pretty well for myself, thank you.
    4. As long as online games exist, DDoS's will happen. It's an unfortunate, immensely pathetic part of the online landscape.
    5. I hear this a lot, but in my thirteen hundred hours I have not experienced a hacker. I might have faced one with a minor speed boost or something, but I couldn't speak to that because it'd be an assumption - I may have just been outplayed.
    6. I ######### love indoor maps. they add variety. 75% of this game I'm getting stuff like Corn, Cars, or Mines. Miss me with that #########. Give me Ormond any day, killer or survivor. I'd take RPD, Hawkins(RIP) or the Game over bland-ass Shelter Woods.
    7. Damn, the developers can't perfectly balance a, by definition, imbalanced game. Balance is a suicide cult - because once everyone is 100% viable, people will find ways to pick preferences, and things will be considered imbalanced again, and so on, and so on, et al. There will always be a weak link. That's just how video games are. Look at any fighting games. Look at Smash Brothers - Pikachu is the top tier fighter at 463 points. Do you know the lowest tier? Ganondorf at 304. But I still love playing Ganondorf. There is always an outlier.
    1. Dead hards been through several iterations, The dead hard where you can move in the middle of dashing was probably the second worst, and its current form where you can basically lag switch hits is probably its worst form since the killer actually take a stun from it....like....theres no way you can even argue in favor of its current form with their janky hit validation in place.
    2. Circle of healing as well as all boons just deleted hexes from the stratosphere as far as viability goes. They went from secondary objectives that help the killer and can be stopped by breaking totems, to being secondary objectives for survivors that only help them. They shouldn't even exist. Instead they should have given survivors their own object to interact with instead of layering more BS on top of an already weak totem game.
    3. Depends on the survivors more than it does your own personal skill, especially since its capped.
    4. There is no excuse for players experiencing DDOS attacks while playing an online game. Zero. It is not common, it is not regular, it is not an industry standard, and it is not ok to have your users personal data, or connections compromised due to bad coding and design, PERIOD NO EXCUSE.
    5. The hacking thing is not only a publically available hack on multiple hack forums its rampant and will likely kick into full overdrive as soon as this game drops for free on epic store.
    6. Meh, I'd have to agree on indoor maps since most of them favor killers, but thats not the point the OP was making, the point is their little auto map generator is trash. I've seen it generate 4 back to back LT walls with windows and pallets within at least 15 meters of each other on Macmillian with zero reason. Bugged? Who knows.

Its a 4v1 game, by default any single member of the 4 man team SHOULD NOT by any means have more power or create more issues for the game than the single 1 person on the other side playing killer. Its balanced because its perfectly imbalanced where essentially

    .25+.25+.25+.25=1 killer

    ^ 4 survivors vs 1 killer.

Its not hard to understand or balance. But it can easily get out of control if you swap ANY SINGLE ONE OF THOSE .25'S INTO A .30 <---then the game is officially broken, not just by a little bit, but by full degrees. "Balance is a suicide cult" I dunno man tell that to literally every other competitive game in existence or every game made with any form of common sense like league of legends or DOTA etc who's job it is to keep over 150 characters actually viable at all levels of play. Sure its hard to do, but so is making a game in the first place. You either got the chops for it or you don't. And if you don't your player base will notice and hang you out to dry long before any journalist or other devs call it out. Which is kind of whats happening right now. Especially with the whole swatting fiasco that happened not too long ago.

“we feel like Nurse has been over performing recently at higher MMR and agreed that the ability to ignore walls and pallets offered no counter play, so now when Nurse hits an injured survivor after blinking through an obstacle they will instead be put into the ‘deep wound’ status instead of going down

Why is it older killers like Nurse and Huntress are allowed to be strong but not newer killers?

It is hard to play killer but its not THAT hard imo.

In stress levels yes, its much more stressful to play killer than survivor but at the same time, its 1v4 so killer needs to be harder and stressful otherwise we would have too many killers on too little survivors.

    So it kinda works.

"Killer needs to be harder and stressful otherwise we would have too many killers and too little survivors"

This is an A-symmetric game myth. And has never been proven true a single time across all A-symmetric games. F-13 Jason at one point was absolutely overpowered and broken, didn't imbalance the queue. Hunter Predator on release could absolutely dive a 4 man team and clean everybody out before they even had a chance to react didn't imbalance queues on Predator. Evolve Stage 2 Wraith absolutely disgusting and very broken in a lot of stages of Evolve's life, didn't imbalance the queues. And this games Beta killers were absolutely disgusting given the ruleset at the time....and it didn't imbalance the queues. Spirit came out as an extremely powerful and easy to use Nurse....didn't imbalance the queues.

This whole "Oh well obviously this role needs to be more annoying to play and have more convoluted bullshit added in to stress the player because muh uhhhh....bad coding..."

Its BS and its Copium to deal with bad dev choices.

Hii everyone, I'm new to this whole forum thing so please treat me nicely! :D

I came here today to tell all of you killer mains out there that I appreciate you very much.

I usually main survivor only because it's always stressful to play killer even though I really really want to so I congratulate any of you that continue to still do so.

Today, I felt like playing pinhead for some reason so I did. I didn't run any meta perks because I'm here to have fun, not sweat. You can tell how that game probably went, but if not, gens basically popped everywhere even with pressure applied. Anyways, I'm not here to complain about that because frankly I expected it and don't really mind. What I want to point out is the toxicity I'm observing as killer from survivors.

I got absolutely DEMOLISHED by the survivors in the endgame chat and it was because I got ONE kill on their friend and I don't see why it's that serious when I did not tunnel/ proxy camp until endgame seeing as there was nothing else for me to do at that point when they were all hovering around. It's cool though, just get into another match and continue on.

Now survivors, I know there are killers that may do the same thing, it's not just one sided. From now on, I think everyone should play their part and have a positive mindset! It's not just what the Devs do, but the community plays a huge part in the health of this game too. :D

Oh yeah, I hope everyone is having a very amazing and wonderful day today! <3

Thanks, In my real life I've been a participant of 2 major wars, so toxicity is nothing new to me. People are gonna act like trash, thats just the human condition. But I can appreciate this post. You gotta be built differently to play killer in this game, to put up with the nonsense and try not to throw you keyboard or controller through the screen. Keep up the positive energy.

Cause I’ll comment survivors don’t have time to worry about 5 totems getting done we have to loop, do gens, unhook, heal, open gates etc etc

Killers already had more objectives than survivors to deal with in the first place. They didn't need yet another objective.

I always see the same killers each game, Huntress (85% of the time), wraith, trapper, hillbilly ect....I never see any of the "fun" killers i would say (45-50% hit or miss) like Trickster, Nemesis, Pyramid Head, Blight, Twins, Spirit, Oni, Demo, Nurse, Pin Head (hes okay but not that interesting) It just seems like i see more of the free killers then anything else. I know more new killers are playing the game lately but its so boring going against the same killers everytime.

Plain and simple, low MMR killers are gonna be the same old same old, Trapper, Wraith, Hillbilly, Huntress etc, all the free killers. Middle MMR and middle ranks you start to see odd balls Pig, Doctor, Freddy, Clown, Pyramid Head, Legion, Twins, Trickster, Hag, etc, High MMR and top ranks you start to see less of all the stuff I just mentioned, and like 80% Blight, Nurse, Spirit. You'll know you're there, because the killer is never brain dead and usually makes you run yourself into them, or their accuracy and speed of downs is ridiculous. They run the best perks, best add ons, and GIGAbrain combinations.

  • Depends on the map. IMO they should have never added map offerings and just left it up to RNG to determine. But it works both ways, if I see an SWF thats clear and blatantly trolling from the lobby I'll throw on an RPD map just out of spite.

Try playing soloQ survivor. It will change your world.

Bruh....did you even read his post?

Thats what we don't want to happen. More people leaving killer isn't a good thing, it just means survivor queues go up, and less skilled killers enter the pool of MMR to replace them. All I do is solo queue survivor, and I gotta say...its probably easier than its ever been. This isn't a sign of accomplishment, its a sign of failure. Before if you were a solo queue survivor in high ranks, you could pretty much just write this game off as you are pretty much a god at this point. Now, its like BOOST city. You don't need skill to play survivor at all anymore....which is absolutely insane to even be real.....but it is. Look at the state of the world and its a clown show, look at the state of this game and its still the same clowns?!?? How even did this happen...

My survivor escape rate is about 90% unless I get a bunch of boosted andy's goofing around and dying on first hook or DC's. And Gen rushing is so easy you don't even need gen speed perks to end the game before the killer has time to hook 3 people.

Its a joke. So much so that the idea and audacity they had to even add MMR makes the joke stop being funny....

I find myself listening to music box covers for songs it helps me calm down, especially when I play killer and the sound it soothing and unobtrusive to the gameplay.

Not a damn thing, I play killer, you can't afford to have that ######### on.

Now if I was a survivor main it'd be a different story.

  • I fully expect this thread to go on for at least 3-6 months and have at least 20 pages before they finally do something.

That was hate raids but now for DBD streamers it's escalated to their IP being leaked, and being DDoS'd, doxxed and swatted. BHVR aren't do anything to protect them.

Not much they can do. Twitch already had a huge data leak a little while ago. The main leak everybody saw on the surface was just a bunch of twitch payout numbers. But the actual leak had everything. Personal Addresses, Phone Numbers, Credit card info, IP's, passwords, stream keys, Username logins, E-mails, etc. If you didn't secure your data then, especially as a twitch streamer with a following, you're likely well past due.

I hope they don't touch Artist. It's also not a good idea for them to make a decision about balancing from people who've only tested something for not even 6 hours yet and that's only if you somehow managed to start your first ptb match when the ptb dropped immediately. People haven't had proper time to figure out counters and really gauge how the killer truly is. (Also the ptb is probably the worst thing to actually make game changing decisions on unless it's a glaring issue with something and I don't think Artist has all that many issues)

Her skill cap is too high for nerfs imo. You basically got a female version of doctor with a global distance shock....except people can still function....which is...for the most part kinda trash....unless you can hit a slow moving projectile from an equally long distance and then hope they aren't moving to hit them. Her add ons are strong.....but other than that ehhh....you gotta really be some kinda sevant to land those second crows....either that or the survivors have to be brain dead and standing still and refusing to cleanse birds...
