Having fun? No? Not an incentive?
If someone doesn´t has fun with the game and constantly dcs/suicides. Then it would be best to take a break. No harm in that. Just take your time, play something else (i heard civ is a great game) and come back after a few months with new energy.
Its better than constantly ruining the game for everyone else.
I get what you're saying, but it does the devs (or the community really) no good to stick their head in the sand and pretend they can't see the spike in DCs/suicides.
We can debate all day about the ethics/maturity/etc of doing such things, but when there's a clear increase in it happening, the only productive solution is to look at why it happens more often, not just simply speak in platitudes about "taking a break" or "ruining the game."
-
I'll reiterate what I've said in threads past, because I truly believe it to be the problem:
People cry out for more balance but the reality is, the more we "balance" a game that was inherently based on an imbalanced premise to begin with, the more we're going to see matches where one side dominates the minute the other makes a single mistake. And this leads to more people being frustrated and less fun in the game itself.
This is the direct result of people caring too much about "balance" in a game that was fun BECAUSE of all the ridiculous things both sides could do. OP perks/mechanics/add-ons/etc in the past were definitely "unbalanced", but matches felt like they had a lot more stakes to them, or that they could change at any time, because either side could use these to swing the match in their favor.

Distortion honestly screws over your teammates more than anything. If I’m playing killer and I see somebody on BBQ, I’ll go chase them, but if I see nobody, I’m proxy camping hook. Distortion just booked a one way ticket to snowball city.
So survivors owe it to you to see their auras, and if they don't, "you'll show them"? This is a very strange mentality.
-
@Sava18 said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/378013/didnt-they-say-barbecue-would-disappear
BBQ really isn't that good, it's just players like me want direction without thinking after hooking. If I start seeing distortion in my games on more than one survivor consistently, then I will start tunneling for the first time in a year in half because you have chose a selfish perk.
I am a relatively lax killer but if I am threatening to tunnel, who knows what other players will do. Idk know what I am talking about because I'll get bored of tunneling in like 2 games anyway.
Distortion is simply top 3 worse survivor perk design period. The fact that I can run c21 on blight and constantly prock it without getting feedback means the perk is far too overtuned. No amount of perks or add-ons for other killers will allow them to push through the tokens if c21 blight can't.
This is... quite the take, I'll say that.
-
"There are no playstyle in the game anymore, no more chaser/flashlight/juker or healer/rescuer players...only gen jockeys who hope to waste the killer's time as much as possible when being chased."
You hit the nail on the head with this, and this is the core problem - this is the direct result of people caring too much about "balance" in a game that was fun BECAUSE of all the ridiculous things both sides could do.
-
People wanted all the non-gen perks nerfed into oblivion, while simultaneously having access to tunneling and camping with no consequences (aka two methods that also drastically speed up the match for a player). This is the natural result of that. Is it ideal? No, but this is just one example of what happens when players want their hands held. And this is not exclusive to killers, there are examples across the board
Matches lately, in my personal experience, are almost always determined in the first minute. Survivors either drop like flies or they blast through gens. The more we "balance" a game that was inherently imbalanced to begin with, the more you're going to see these matches where one side dominates the minute the other makes a single mistake.
Say what you want about the "unbalanced" elements of years past, but at least they made the game more fun, more interesting, and, ironically, more "balanced" in the sense that either side could implement something ridiculous in a match.
-
"Can we please make this type of thing a first offense permaban to any account who does this. Also can we revoke the rights to the content the account purchased as well so they cant just game share or account hop without having to purchase all content over again on a new account?"
Good lord, relax. It's like you didn't even take a second to think critically about this.
Imagine if the way YOU choose to play got you permabanned after ONE TIME all because one person didn't like it - not to mention all the money you sank into the game being for nothing.
-
I've been saying this - people think things are getting more balanced but the reality is, the more watered down everything has gotten, the more extreme the games have gone. One side almost always dominates, and you always know fairly early on in the match who it'll be.
Say what you will about the "OP" perks/mechanics/add-ons/etc in the past, but matches felt like they had a lot more stakes to them, or that they could change at any time, because either side could use them to swing the match in their favor.
-
It was so much fun for a long time.

Sure is fun when I have to take ages longer to catch up to a mediocre survivor
Get better or get over it.

No disrespect, but all of this is nonsense, and I knew this would eventually come up once DH was nerfed into oblivion.
I'm tired of both sides trying to take everything even remotely fun out of this game.

Old Ruin era and ruin/undying era. It was far easier to 4k back then. I used to 4k almost effortlessly. Now I really need to sweat and even if I tunnel the end result is uncertain. There's been different era's where the balance of power was more killer-sided. That is no longer the case. The average survivor now has too much time invested and there's far too little 'shakeup' changes. IMO Killer is in the worst state it has ever been in.
... a 4k SHOULD require you to sweat, not be "effortless." You're one player taking out four players on your own.
Why should one killer player have an effortless time getting a 4k, but four survivor players should not have an effortless time escaping?
Why is it that a killer not being able to effortlessly 4k means killer is in the worst state it's ever been?
-
I have no idea what they're gonna do with this, but I'm just excited at the prospect that I could be enjoying this IP again since the game itself is a miserable experience lol

I agree.. I think the competitive nature that came into the game has ruined it... I think it's a party game
Agreed. This game was so much more fun 3-4 years ago, even with some of the busted things that needed fixing.
-
Don't you all ever get tired? There is no monopoly on complaining, both sides do it.
"Survivors" this, "killers" that - this game is not that serious. Play the game, maybe provide constructive feedback on things that actually need to be worked on, and chill out lol
-
The reason the game seems so much more frustrating recently is because we now have too many perks with too many possible combinations.
A constant stream of DLC has made this game bloated, and thus created too many things for people to be frustrated by/have to keep in mind to counter or play against.

It's most likely The crotus prenn realm that gets reworked next. The teaser picture they showed looks like the main of the disturbed ward
They already reworked Crotus, why would they do it again? Especially before the ones we have left with no rework at all.

It would have to make sense lore wise as well. Chucky doesn't have any magical powers to teleport survivors to hooks or cages.
It would look way yo comical too.
The reason why sadako works is because she is basically psychic. It makes sense with her lore.
Alright, if we're going with lore specifically:
In Cult of Chucky, it shows that Chucky exists in dozens, if not hundreds, of Good Guy Dolls. He also possesses humans AT THE SAME TIME that these dolls are functioning. Chucky could essentially "possess" a survivor to hook THEMSELVES while the doll still functions as the killer itself. The survivor could attempt to snap out of the possession instead of wiggling.
This is just off the top of my head. If the devs add Chucky, they'll find a way to make it doable and sensible.

Victor is attacking not caring survivors and putting them on hooks and kicking generators. He is basically an attack. I really don't think it would work
Chucky doesn't have to carry survivors either? Pyramid head has the cages, they could come up with something for Chucky.
Or hell, he could even drag them to hooks by their leg. Sadako doesn't even touch them and she still carries them over lol.

It's both good and bad there's some really good stuff out there but moat of the time it's either bad or annoying it's hard to find the good things
So exactly like the DBD community in recent years? lol
-
While there are some issues to be worked on and balanced of course, I think a lot boils down to one major thing:
Humans don't like things that are out of their control - more specifically to DBD, players don't like situations where their perceived skill level doesn't dictate how they actually do in a game. A lot of situations in this game cause a player to "lose" even if they feel they shouldn't have. But the fact is, this game is almost all RNG, from perk choices to player levels to map spawns, etc.
Once DBD players 1). stop taking this game so seriously and 2) come to terms with the random nature of it, they'll be a lot a better off. It's a mentality issue that a lot of people have to work on themselves.
-
Idk, I've seen 4-5 almost every match. I've only had matches with 3 or less twice honestly.
-
Same issue here. She sounds like a galloping horse.
-
This is going to be what finally gets me to learn Blight lol. What an excellent surprise.
-
Maybe an unpopular take, but I think the steady stream of DLC has actually messed up the game and is the reason new players can't fully get into it and stick around anymore.
I started in 2019, around the Stranger Things chapter, and it was hard to get into then, but a fun kind of hard. There was a lot less to contend with, being that there were significantly less killers and perks overall. Now, there are so many variables at play, I can't imagine anything about the game would be fun to get into for a new player - particularly solo survivors.
Imagine being a new survivor and being tunneled out because you can't loop (or don't even know what looping is!) match after match after match. Or imagine being a new killer and gens fly because you haven't learned how to track survivors yet, let alone downing and hooking them. Most people aren't going to want to continuously face that kind of hopeless feeling.
At some point, you just feel like you've wasted time and money, and cut your losses.
-
@Emeal said:

A limitation to looping for minutes on end isnt bad. the game must go on somewhat give other survivors a time to be chased
That user's suggested limitation wouldn't be productive for either side:
- A good SWF would just take turns shuffling through their limits while the other 3 work on gens.
- Solo queue would be decimated as usual, which is against the devs' current intentions of giving solo queue some love.
- For the killer, it would further encourage tunneling, but if you get a good looper and finally down them, you're wasting even more of your time by focusing on that one person just to wait out their limit.
At the end of the day, if looping is going on for minutes on end, chances are there's a skill discrepancy. Or even if there's not, it's up to the killer to know when to break chase.
There are 4 survivors, you are not required to continuously chase the same one until you down them.
-
@StupidBanana said:
Give stamina bar for survivors.
Survivor should tired , when they run to long time.
This is a terrible idea, and would gut the survivor community on both solo queue and SWF ends.
Looping may not have been originally intended, but it's indisputably a major part of the game now and is also the best part to a lot of survivor players. It's the whole reason people complain about anti-loop killers, and why killers like Wesker and Blight (minus busted add-ons) are generally well-liked.
A lot of people claim change x y or z would kill DBD, but I truly think something like this user's suggestion would be what actually did kill the game.
_______________________
To answer your question, the simple fact is that balance is not really achievable because a) it means something different to everyone and b) the game is too RNG-based and something unexpected or uncontrollable is always at play. Devs can try their best to make perks, powers, and items as fair as they can - but the human element of the player is simply always going to be at odds with balance.

1.) I couldn’t care less about the nurse nerf, it’s more annoying that after she got nerf, instead of enjoying the fact that nurse finally got nerfed, survivors would rather just skip and go to the next killer who needs nerfs
survivor mains only care about themselves. They never advocate for any of the weak killers to get buffed like trapper or pig. And instead make post about deleting killers because “I can’t loop it”
so yes, I’m dramatic that killers are getting nerfed 1 by 1. But you lack empathy, narcissistic tendencies of course.
The only narcissistic tendencies I see in this thread are from you and your weird aggressiveness toward everyone. You start a thread off hostile and then get surprised when people call you dramatic?
Try rational thought for a change lol
-
"Reverse it in a newer persons shoes and having a character locked out just because you BOUGHT and payed for a game later on."
So we're expected to care about your feelings of unfairness, but you have no regard for the feelings of those who would lose content they paid for? (which is what would happen since Bhvr can't just give away Nancy and Steve willy-nilly as they aren't their own property)
Very weird argument tbh.

Man, 2 years already. Old Billy was one of my absolute favs to face. Always a fun match, no matter the outcome :(

@Sally_S_gay_son said:
I think about this a lot and I think this is rooted in one of the biggest problem this game has maybe even the biggest - new player retention
So new survivors are always losing in the first dare I say at least 20-30 hours in the game, which may sound like nothing to people here like me with at least 2-3k hours but its actually a lenght of an average full single player game, like people who are new won't get attached and will just get frustrated and give up
For killer it's super easy at the beginning but then it puts you against 4 man sweaty squads really quickly after you are done stomping babies and you start to lose and losing as killer feels awful and way worse than survivor
and all of this is without even mentioning perks, huge grind, bunch of maps, strats, killer powers everything that a new player has to learn
and all of this ties to what you wrote - the game was supossed to be chill and hide and seek fun horror experience but all people who are left are mostly people who are veterans and know the game inside out and the since everyone knows how to play everyone plays the best they can and the game turns into this tryhard mess
fellow Nurse mains going for some streaks with starstruck and midwitch offering against solos and 4 man squads bringing bnps and insta heals and maps offering against m1 killers while in reality this game was never meant to be that, that's why when it first started we had insta repair gens insta moris and etc.
balance did not exist because it was supossed to be goofy little game, but now we are in this strange limbo where Bhvr tries to appeal to the new players but also tries to balance perks and everything for "high level" and it looks super messy and no one is actually happy
This is spot on. A lot of new players who pick the game up now won't stick around because it's such a bad experience for them, on either side. I've been playing since mid 2019, and I used to look forward to it, but now I can't even be bothered to turn it on.
I know a lot of people advocated for this before it came out, but personally, I fully believe mmr has made this game a lot less fun.

You don't balance for the bottom, no matter what. No other game has people advocating for that.
It's not just the god SWFs that can beat a good killer. It's any one thing. Bad map? Lose. Too quick on gens? Lose. Strong loops? Lose. Strong loopers? Lose. Too many meta perks? Lose. Don't get the hook trade? Lose. You stopped to scratch your nose? Lose.
Sure, don’t balance for a majority of the playerbase. Let’s see where that gets us.
There are already plenty of people who try to play this game as a solo survivor and don’t stick around because of how rough it is. But sure, let’s not throw the casual majority that’s left any bones.
As for your second point, that comes with the territory? It’s a game with a ton of RNG. Don’t know what to tell someone if they can’t accept that.

🤦♀️ That's all y'all can say. "The kill rate." Knowing full well that half those kills came from bad survivors, DCs, and that one niche build that needs a pink add-on to work.
You’re… proving my point.
She is good BECAUSE so many casual aka “bad” survivors play this game. They are the majority. Most people don’t make this game their entire life like a lot of killer mains on the forums think they do.
Overbuff killers to compensate for the once in a blue moon god squad SWF, and suddenly a large portion of casual players will move on because the game is too steep and frustrating.

majority of the player base is casual?
in what world exactly?
and every weak killer is "fun" to play against because they can't do anything about your broken perks or addons
In the real world where most people don’t play for 3-6+ hours a day.
And I said “fun to play”, not “fun to play AGAINST”, but something tells me a person who calls survivor perks and addons “broken” in a sweeping generalized statement wouldn’t be swayed by that difference anyway.
-
"Part of me wonders if the reason why killer mains are so negative about her, putting her even as low as D tier, is just that they're used to antiloop killers with chase powers that practically win the chase for them or ignore key aspects of gameplay"
Bingo.
She can definitely use some fine-tuning buffs, but she's far from the abysmal killer people on the forums make her out to be.

Right, definitely not the fact that people only play her with her condemned slugging playstyle
This overly-simplistic argument hardly indicates why she's stronger than people claim she is, as they definitely don't "only" do this. Obviously it exists, but I personally have never faced this Sadako for example, and I'm sure others haven't either.
I'm not pretending she's the best, or even top 3, but again - most people who play this game aren't in the "top 1% mmr" that apparently everyone on this forum is, which in turns make her stronger to most casuals who play.
-
Tell that to all the people who play her and all the survivors from her killrate
People like to pretend she's bad because they treat this game like esports and lost to a couple of SWFs with her - but the truth is, she's fun to play and very good against most casuals (which is a majority of the survivor playerbase)

I'm genuinely curious to know when people in this community started expecting others to dictate their fun for them, on both sides.
It's an online game with other human beings. There will always be an element of randomness and chance. You can do everything right but that element can sometimes still work against you because games with other humans are not and cannot be some perfectly coded thing based just on what you alone do.
Killers will play in ways you don't like. So will a team of survivors. People need to learn to give up their control issues and just accept this.

it goes hand in hand with my mindset. You think i enjoy every single round i play? you think i dont get salty and sometimes happen to scream at my screen or something? hell no XD
but at least i dont bother people over playing the way they want and i certainly dont DC just because its "bruh this killer" so i screw not only the killers round but also the other 3. Idk why this seems to be so difficult for most dbd players.
Ok, but here's the disconnect:
People in both roles intentionally load up stacked to the high heavens, with no regard to the fun of the other side. People who DC also do it with no regard to anyone's fun. It's the same mentality. Fun either matters or it doesn't - it can't be cherry-picked for one argument but not the other.
There are valid reasons for the DC penalty - "fun" is not one of them and never has been.
-
Multiple things can be problems at once. Why is this concept so hard to understand lol
-
@Ayodam said:

Maybe they could obtain both licenses by getting adult Jason as a Trapper legendary skin, and then creating a F13 chapter with Camp Crystal Lake and Pamela as killer?
This idea is based on the current legal issues - I'd definitely prefer a full F13 chapter with Jason and none of these weird tweaks lol.
