Because they're not accurate of the current community's questions but rather the questions of a small majority of the forums. As much as I would like to say the forums represent the community, they simply do not and now you have a ton of unhappy players because the questions answered weren't wanted at all.
For example: The devs love to just randomly put Lore questions and cosmetic questions in there that I've never even seen on this forum. Where the heck did they come from? I won't know, and neither do most people know (which is where a lot of frustration stems from). Whether that be due to them being buried or just me brushing over them is irrelevant because I could not clearly see the answers chosen, therefore I cannot believe that my say or anyone else's actually went into choosing them. Making it clear that these questions are what the majority want answered through something as simple as a survey gets rid of my, or anyone else's, claim that the current system doesn't reflect what the community wants.
There is virtually no medium that can reach every player. Even if you put an in-game pop-up (which most people close without reading anyway) saying to come to the forum and ask your questions, I doubt that would be effective at getting more people to participate.
So granted, the forum does not represent every player, but keep in mind that the people throwing around accusations of "cherry picking" are on the forum. So when you say "the community", what you're really talking about is the "small minority of the forums".

That's assuming that you both move back to the original system and that the current system isn't being accused of cherry picking by the majority already, both of which being false. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying any opposition means it's ineffective but rather that the current Q&A structure makes the majority of the community unhappy and feel alienated from the actual dev team.
May I suggest a simple solution?
- Run the currently picked Q&A questions through a survey a few hours before Q&A goes live.
- Make each question simply be: "Would you like x (the question) to be answered?"
- Give two simple choices, yes or no. Having a middle option would decrease the effectiveness.
- Let people view the results once the Q&A goes live.
This would quite literally get rid of any claim of cherry-picking because you're clearing showing that you chose the questions based off of both upvotes and by what the community actually wants to hear.
How are the upvotes not already representative of what the community wants to hear?

can we get a downvote button then to counter upvotes on some questions? i would instantly downvote every lore related question there was.
There is a downvote button for questions. Have you never browsed the Q&A section?
-

If the questions that the majority of the community actually wanted were answered you wouldn't see so many threads complaining about every Q&A being useless. You see them before them, you see them after them, yet you still say that you're choosing the right ones based off of upvotes. Even if these questions are based off of upvotes, it just means the system's gathering of questions is ineffective and you should change it further.
The community upvotes the questions, yet you imply these are not the questions the community wants answered. How would you determine what the majority of the community wants, if not by a simple, straightforward vote?

BHVR's estimated annual revenue is currently $118.6M per year. The problem isn't related to the money the game makes or the number of players it has because, believe me, it has a healthy amount of both. The problem is that the devs do not listen and/or are actively ignorant of the problems with the stuff they put out. Unless they were pressured by their higher ups, they released Binding of Kin IGNORING how faulty the DLC and the overall patch was and decided they would just fix it later -- not too dissimilar from how other companies like EA operate, if you think about it.
BHVR is definetly not as bad as EA when it comes to their monetization but, then again, it is kind of impossible to beat King ######### of ######### Mountain itself I suppose. Still, they do not deserve more money for their poor work. What they need is a stricter work place whose order of business can't be put on a bloody flowchart.
Estimated by whom and how?

If you read my post you see at the you side when you ban people who call them names or use extremely aggressive language it's rightfully and you should do it but when you try to silence any criticism you don't like this is where the problem and your disrespect is. You can't keep the only the good criticism and hide the bad.
I've criticized the devs and never had any issues. The problem is that what you refer to as "bad criticism" is often laced with insults and other statements intended to demean the devs. That's why people get banned, not because they offer "bad criticism".

That's wrong. I have this game on pc and console. The problem is in dbd the ping is related to the FPS. On ps4 i get 60ms and on pc i have 30ms no matter what i choose. I get 60ms only when i set my monitor refresh rate to 30hz then i get the same ping.
If your ping changes with framerate, that's a hardware issue. Ping is not related to framerate in any conceivable way unless the hardware is having a hard time supporting that framerate, which delays other operations.

But games never got more expensive.
The price never changes but because money in general got less worth, they got cheaper because you got ,,more".
And yet, gaming companies report record profits year after year, even if you take inflation into account.
The industry is fine, don't let them convince you otherwise. If anything, AAA games could be cheaper, to account for the ridiculous increase in profit over the decades.

Graphics has no correlation to ping. Also I'm on console. If 60-70 ping is bad idk what to do. These servers are cheap any other game in getting 9-15.
60-70 ms is definitely on the upper end of "acceptable". You probably live relatively far away from the closest server.

I still remember their original business model: "We'll have some free and some paid original ideas, and then licensed chapters have to be paid." I think they took advantage of the three licensed chapters/paragraphs in a row with Leatherface/Freddy/Pig and decided everyone forgot about that model, and we've never seen a free chapter since.
IIRC the devs did address this. If I'm not mistaken, they consider the iridescent shards and their ability to unlock original characters as a way to make every original character "free", in a sense.

Inflation causes things to be more expensive, not cheaper.
I think their point is that AAA games have cost 60 EUR/USD for several years now (a few decades, if I'm not mistaken), despite the fact that 60 EUR/USD today is much less than it was a decade ago.
EDIT: It's a bad argument, IMO, because gaming companies also report record profits basically every year, even when you take inflation into account.

No you dont understand what im saying, you now arbitrarly add a rule that more skin options means more skins to be made within the same time period, that would obviously not be the case.
More killers means more skins as well, Deathslinger has not seen anything new since his release really, that one skin that came later was already done and the recolour for the 4th year really does not count.
Their attention was shifted to other places and that is fine.
More skin options does not mean more work/strain.
If you want them to make more skins, how are you not giving them more work to do? Where do the skins come from?

strain? I mean...its literally their job and there is no set date/schedule for release, they can just take their time and release anything simply "when its done".
And why would it really annoy people? its completely optional.
strain? I mean...its literally their job and there is no set date/schedule for release, they can just take their time and release anything simply "when its done".
You're not their boss. Their bosses could very well put them on a schedule, not to mention everyone who'd be angry if the skins didn't come out in [insert arbitrary timeline here]. Also, just because it's their job doesn't mean you can pile on more work - even if it's work of the same type - and expect them to do it. That's like saying that a janitor's job is to clean, so you should be allowed to ######### everywhere since they have to clean anyway.

Do you see a problem with that though? You paid full price for a game that wasn't even half of what they promised upon release. Then on top of that had to wait a year and dlc, (not sure if it was free or paid dlc but still) for the game to be what it was supposed to be from the start. Developers now don't even have to finish or test new game releases nowadays since they still get their money and we get to be glorified alpha/beta testers. It shouldn't take a community up in arms to get game developers to actually deliver what was promised from the get go.
Every NMS update has been 100% free, many of which were massive content updates that would definitely be paid DLCs if this had been any other game. There are no microtransactions, no forced PvP, no paid DLC, no bullshit.
Also, I didn't really look too deeply into the advertising and promises. I did actually enjoy the game at release, it was relaxing and a nice change of pace from other games. However, I also recognize it's a lot better now.

Assuming you mean DbD, even though I was referring to NMS, I find it fun to play with my friend in SWF. I don't play killer all that much because looping is boring for me. However, I haven't played much overall because I have other games to play at the moment.

You do realize how long that took though right? It took nearly a year of polish and DLC before it became the game it was supposed to be. BHVR has been at this for over 4 years and it's still a train wreck.
I do, yes, seeing as how I bought it on release. My point is that saying "there's no point, DbD is bad forever" is not productive, unless your goal is to get the devs to stop working on the game altogether.

It won't work. They're enjoying the game as it is because what you mentioned is simply not relevant to them.

People who were going to buy this DLC with money are still going to buy it with money, people who weren't still won't. Most people are aware of these issues, but you're not going to convince anyone to substitute their priorities for yours.

No, not even close. You cannot get "everything" from a few thousand shards - realistically, most players will get a few thousand shards, RARELY more than 10K shards.
Good for you at placing third on a contest! 99.9% of players will not have the same experience.
I'm talking about the casual/new player base, not the hardcore competitive ranked player base. DBD has enough of the latter. Trolls won't make it far up the high ranks, and it's been years since hackers were a serious issue
I have over 22k shards right now. I unlocked the Blight and Felix with shards and will unlock the Twins and Elodie with shards as well when they're released. Keep in mind that I also play sporadically. So yes, it's absolutely possible.
Also, the game is 20 USD, not 40.
-
@PccK said:
I think if the base game is free, the player base would at least triple in size.
The base game also doesn't offer much. You have a few basic survivors and killers, without access to the fun perks and play-styles. If casual new players start getting into the game, they WILL want to spend more money to access the rest of the content. The problem is most people never get to that point
As it stands, the pricing is pure robbery. The game is not new-player friendly enough
If the base game were free, you could get everything apart from licensed characters just by playing the game. You could then get licensed characters by participating in certain events (I, for example, got 18000 Auric Cells by entering a guide contest and placing third).
Making the base game free would also attract a lot of trolls and even more hackers. So no, thanks.

It wouldn’t be a recording as such, it would be just like spectating other players in game, if that makes sense?
It's the same thing, you'd need a way to record that visual information for the mods to review afterward. There aren't enough mods in any game to handle reports in real time the way you're suggesting, especially if the reports only come after the trial has ended (when there's nobody to spectate).
-
@TDZ_Luke said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1776666#Comment_1776666
Exactly, they could implement a system where when you submit a report, BHVR can view the report and spectate the match to see any suspicious activity that happened, this would mean that you wouldn’t have to submit video evidence and they could see the match from a better perspective.
I'm not saying they should necessarily record every match from every perspective and delete the recordings if nobody was reported, since that would waste a lot of space, but more telemetry would be useful. Player positions and such should be relatively "lightweight".
-
@TDZ_Luke said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1776660#Comment_1776660
Thank you, I wasn’t aware of this, and I assume many other players aren’t either, there should be a prompt in game that says something along the lines of “for further support please go to ‘website’” so more people don’t feel the same way.
Yes, the report system needs a serious overhaul. Particularly, they need to stop demanding video evidence and should just collect the relevant information from the game itself.
-
Reports do work, despite what you may hear. However, some report types require additional (video) evidence, which can be submitted via a support ticket.

Asserting that leaving the game will ruin the experience for the 4 other players is also anecdotal. I replied to an anecdote with an anecdote, its tit for tat. If you're having an entirely miserable time in a game because of poor design, and you leave, the developers bear the burden via quality control. Its funny that "harming the experience of other players" is held accountable with a timed ban, yet the game being unenjoyable at times due to poor design "harming the experience" is, of course, not part of the conversation.
The developers cannot police every single trial and it's unreasonable to expect them to do so. Furthermore, some people consider "having an entirely miserable time" to be the first survivors to be found, for example. Others consider "having an entirely miserable time" to be unable to find any survivors inside 15 seconds.
So no, it's not part of the conversation because it's entirely a matter of individual opinion. If the game is unenjoyable to you, then don't queue up just to disconnect. You are not the only player in the game and you are ruining everyone else's experience. This is why we need the lock in the first place.
-
The "no name and shame" rule is there because it's far too easy to fake stuff like that. I can create a throwaway account right now, pretend to be you, cheat while a friend records, taking care to avoid playing while you're streaming so you have no alibi, and post the video here along with your identifying information. You'd get hit with a ######### storm even though it wasn't your fault, which you would have no way of proving.
Even if the accused are guilty, though, it doesn't justify the harassment that would ensue, just like every other instance of mob "justice". It has nothing to do with people being "offended by nothing nowadays".
As for EAC, no anti-cheat is perfect. EAC adapts to new cheats as they come, like any other anti-cheat. It's like asking why doctors exist if they haven't cured every future disease; that's not how it works.

I'm not, no. I don't like being slugged or teabagged either, but the fact is those things are not bannable. Players wanting to enforce what they perceive as "fair play" is one of the reasons why the DC penalty had to be implemented.
-
Slugging and letting you bleed out is not a bannable offense. Neither is teabagging. Your "reason" for DCing is precisely why the penalty was introduced.

Insta-down is too strong, especially given that protection hits (and just assist in general) aren't really working properly. I sometimes get "Assist" BP when I'm nowhere near a survivor who needs assistance. I've also received a protection hit score event even though the other survivor was no longer being chased.

Perfectly understandable, I used to have the same problem.
Pro tip: pour a little olive oil onto the yolk and mix them together. They'll combine into a (pleasant, IMO) paste.
Bonus tip: If you fry up some garlic (or anything else, even just raw spices) in the olive oil and then mix everything with the yolk, it should be even better.

My bad, I somehow thought you wanted it to be button-activated. I am ambivalent about that change. On the one hand, it'd make the perk better when you're breaking up a cluster and just need to walk a short distance between gens. On the other hand, it'd make the perk worse when you're being chased, since you'd have to stop running to get its effects.

Just use A to counter B is the most dumb thing you can ever hear on forum
There are a few ways to go about this. I can think of three:
- Every perk can be fully countered via gameplay alone. This means that for experienced players, perks become irrelevant, because there's nothing they can use that the other side can't counter.
- Every perk can be fully countered by another perk, but not by gameplay. This makes perks worth using, but also potentially game-breaking under the right circumstances.
- Perks' effects can be mitigated by gameplay, but are only truly countered by other perks. This makes perks worth using, without becoming game-breaking.
Iron Will, IMO, falls under the third option. You can counter it via gameplay (by being observant), but some perks can also fully counter it. If you can't spot blood pools on the ground, taking a perk to counter Iron Will in some other way is just good advice.

Unless you're against sweaty survivors, which is not even a common thing that people on this forum tend to argue, you're perfectly capable of getting a 2-4K by hooking everybody and not resorting to tunnelling.
You're just bad at the killer role if the only way you can win is by tunnelling.
You're just bad at the killer role if the only way you can win is by tunnelling.
I'm not even going to challenge that assertion, but do people who are bad at the game not have a right to play it?

I don't believe this would result in more than one lunge (if the killer was able to lunge at all) unless you were facing an Oni who had activated Blood Fury and all the survivors were close together.

I hate the fact that games care more about making more money then quality product. The fact that the focus has become how can we squeeze more money out of players from a product. rather then make the product good.
it hurts. I'm really hoping that these legal cases against Lootboxes and in game gambling work out and punch some of the industry in the face.
Most of the prices I listed were the prices of the games at release. Hell, I bought some of them at release.

Isn't this a big indicator that changes should be made to this killer? IMO killers should not only be fun to play, but fun to play against and if people are willing to take dc penalties and depips just to avoid playing a killer as much as they do spirit then I think its time for a rework or some kind of change to help.
Thoughts?
No, it's a big indicator that those survivors don't know how to play against the Spirit, don't want to learn, and should probably not be playing at all if they're just going to ruin the game for everyone else because they can't handle losing.

Feedback that gets moved to the correct section is only "killed" (read: doesn't get many replies from forumgoers, even though it gets noticed by the devs) because people don't seem to realize that General Discussions is only one category and not the whole forum.
As for what you perceive to be bait, assuming you reported it (which is necessary in the first place since the mods are not omniscient), maybe the mods just disagree with you on whether or not they're "obvious bait posts". Ultimately, mods take action based on what they perceive, not what you perceive, otherwise it'd be like making everyone a mod.
