I don't find any of the licensed chapters or characters appealing if I'm honest. It's not because I don't like their source material or anything (as a matter of fact I like the Halloween films as well as A Nightmare On Elm Street) it's just that I don't think they add a lot to the game. I like Dead by Daylight for different reasons then I like the films so I just don't see any appeal in them merging.

To me, the licensed characters feel somewhat constricted and dull. I find it difficult to explain why I don't really enjoy licensed DLC without it sounding like I'm hating on the source(s) so I'll just summaries a few of my ideas:

    • Lore: Their lore doesn't always fit with Dead by Daylight. The presence of characters who already have existing universes raises unanswerable questions about DbD's own lore. For example: Is the Upside Down a thing in Dead by Daylight? Are characters like Laurie Strode real in Dead by Daylight or did The Entity take the character(s) from their films/shows? How are characters like Steve and Nancy present in the game while they are currently part of the 'normal' world in the Stranger Things show?
    • Aesthetics: Their character/personality/design doesn't fit with Dead by Daylights themes. This one is similar to the aforementioned lore problem. I feel like some of the characters we have (e.g. Ashley J. Williams) don't fit with Dead by Daylight's horror atmosphere. He seems more of a comedic character than a series horror protagonist. I understand some people will like that but it just isn't my cup of tea.
    • Price: I understand the developers have to make money and I am not asking for any more free content since there already is a lot. I'm prepared to pay for any of the DLC I want however the appeal of the characters isn't enough to warrant me purchasing the (licensed) characters.
    • Customization: All of the cosmetics for licensed characters are unable to be bought with Iridescent Shards (understandably so). One of my favorite parts of Dead by Daylight is the customization so having limited and expensive options only on licensed characters just isn't for me really.
    • Uniqueness and Originality: I like Dead by Daylight because it is really unique and I haven't found a game I enjoy more than Dead by Daylight in a long time. I especially enjoy Dead by Daylight's original characters. I find their stories and The Entity's realm to be really intriguing. The licensed characters don't have that feel to me. They already have their own stories so they lack that sense of mystery for me.
    • Immersion: This one is a bit hard to explain but it sometimes breaks the whole atmosphere of Dead by Daylight when I'm running around and see The Demogorgon (for example). As somebody who has watched S1 of Stranger Things, when I see the Demogorgon I instantly feel like I'm not really playing Dead by Daylight anymore and more like I'm playing 'Stranger Things'. I suppose if you're a really big fan then this would be ideal but I personally didn't enjoy the show so it's not down my alley. This applies for some of the other licenses too, but certainly not all. I do enjoy some of the characters (Laurie Strode, Quentin Smith, The Shape, The Ghostface etc to name a few).

On an unrelated note, I just want to thank you for being polite. Sometimes when I say I'm not a fan of some of the licensed characters I get angry fans responding somewhat rudely. Even though I personally am not a massive fan of the licenses, I completely respect that other people like them and I'm glad they enjoy the DLC.

To answer some of your questions, the Devs have made it clear that stuff like the Upside Down and licensed characters exist. The entity uses stuff like the Upside Down and the Dream World like a college kid uses SparkNotes to write an essay. It's a crappy substitute for the real thing but it's still something to use. Per example, the Upside Down is real in the realm of the Entity but it is curtailed from the actual effects of the Mind Flayer, making it far less threatening than the real deal.

I'm going to gently assume you're not super familiar with parallel universes and multiverses in fiction for the sake of my explanation. Characters like Laurie, Steve, Nancy, etc can exist in the realm of the Entity because at the instance the Entity grabbed them, a parallel universe where they were not snatched comes into existence. This explains why Bill and Tapp are canonically deceased (you can finds Bill's corpse in a DLC) but you can play as them in the game and they are fine and alive. I get that this sounds like bad writing but the truth is, this same type of writing exists with the original content as well. Jeff is hinted at being the one who makes noise in the woods that alerts the Legion to follow it which leads to them all getting sucked into the Entity's realm, despite Jeff being a grown man and the Legion still being stuck in the 90s as teens.

Time and logic fall to the waist side when working the Entity. It's a little irritating when people feel like the licensed stuff is non-canon just because certain chapters/paragraphs have worse writing than others (looking at you Laurie, Nancy, Steve, and Demo). But then we have characters like Ash and Ghostface who have entirely unique backstories that connect deeply to the lore and rules of the Entity. Ash ######### up, as per usual. Danny wanted to kill forever and he got his wish.

Hopefully this clears some things up.

  • Cosmetics are derived from memories for certain characters while other cosmetics are "found" in the fog, meaning that the Entity created them. Take Steve's Babysitter outfit versus Dwight's Vigo's Apprentice outfit. It's a sick and twisted monster but it does enjoy playing dress up.

Yeah but our Bill died from a horde of tanks and the undead

I thought you were just listing who died, not how. You're right, Bill died awfully compared to Tapp.

  • @Hoodied said:

    Bill literally died

Same with Tapp. Ash and Bill take the cake for worst cards though.

  • Looking forward to Babysitter Steve and the classic GhostFace robes. I'm glad Myers got cosmetics but, I mean, P3 looks better than a robe to me.

Just waiting for my namesake to hopefully be added into the game- then I’ll feel true fear like when the game first arrived Xx

Until you pallet stun the Xenomorph so many times it starts spinning in rage and then DC's right in front of you. Then, just like all the other killers, it is a spooky costume with the potential for a clown to be underneath.

  • @Hoodied said:

I know new players feel fear, I experienced it when I started during 2017 All Hallows eve

but the feeling is survivors, even new players and vets, should be scared of a killer consistently instead of a few times

Being scared of something will never be consistent. I'm sorry but that is sadly the nature of this game and real life. Peanits made a great point, it's scary at first but it isn't after a hundred-thousand hours. No matter what they add to this game, it'll still be some guy playing a game just like you as you loop him, blind him, and tbag him, making this super scary killer that BHVR made, another joke.

I do agree, however, that some cosmetics feel tacky and out of place in a horror game. Neon Nea, Lettuce Hag, Ashy Slashy (I love it but we all know it's silly) and Elephant Clown (SoonTM) all are goofy and not very horror based or spooky. I'm fine with skins and cosmetics that are unique, fun, and easygoing but all skins should still relate to horror primarily. Make them bloodier and more beat up, that's a real quick fix to some silly outfits.

True. I'll try to figure out how to edit it tomorrow when I actually have time. Again, never seen the show, so I wouldn't know they are that different, therefore leading me to assume that they were pretty much the same model.

It's a common mistake and it's perfectly okay. Demogorgons are like wolves or tigers. Fierce and deadly but not unique. The only Demo that was memorable was D'art who was tamed by Dustin just because it imprinted on him as a baby and he gave it Three Musketeers bars for breakfast.

  • @VolantConch1719 said:

Like I (kind of) said in my mental breakdown, I didn't believe it was that Demogorgon because it only is seen for one scene, while the original was a constant threat throughout the entire first season. It does, however, work with the Season 3 cosmetics and the supposed ages of Nancy and Steve a bit better than the original, and it makes the quotes make more sense.

Until more evidence comes out though (possibly through the Archives), I'm sticking to it being the original, but it does have potential.

The Demogorgon model is from the end credit scene in Season 3. It looks different from the one in Season 1. Timeline or not, it ain't the same Demo from the first season. Sorry.

Well it was, especially since no one wanted it and it was unneeded since he had plenty of counterplay already, they just made it easier for no reason. Stop being snarky and add too the discussion.

I'm sorry, do you not like being able to walk around the map with 0 terror radius and no whoosing sound? That is a buff. The stalk was way worse and they fixed it in the patch that you call a "nerf". The update was a massive buff, not a nerf. I wanted it. I am glad I got it. Excuse my attitude, I can't help but roll my eyes when someone says that the best thing to happen to GF was a "nerf".

Your post is rude. @BunnyTheHutt is making an effort to contribute to the discussion by providing a relevant similar situation. Instead of trying to attack their argument you are attempting to discredit them.

Name one rude thing about it. I'm simply stating that it says a lot about a person's view of balance and fairness if they think GF getting a massive buff and fixes to his broken stalk mechanic is a nerf. I didn't insult anyone, broski.

  • @BunnyTheHutt said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/761826#Comment_761826

As long as I've been playing they haven't. patch 3.0.0 is a perfect example. Were half the perks were broken and bugged, but they never said a word on any of them, simply fixed it and moved on. They simply don't talk about major problems and just change it. Another example was the GhostFace nerfs on launch, where most of the community were begging BVHR too not nerf him, and they did it anyway.

Ahhh, you're one of the ones who think the Ghost Face "nerf" was a bad update for him. Hm. Says a lot.

  • @THEghostface said:

Stranger things is the worst one imo

You're entitled to your opinion. Even the wrong one...

    I'm just joking.

  • Crossplay is gonna happen down the line. I'm almost 100% certain. With Nurse being nerfed, console players have little to worry about when facing PC players in the future. Like, what? 360s? Not everyone does that and those who do are usually punished for it since killers learn to anticipate it. Plus the party system they've implemented lends itself to crossplay greatly.

  • In game, he looks like he is wearing a size 9-10. Doesn't look weird to me. Looks pretty normal.

-A guy who wears Size 12

  • BHVR's excuse was that it gets offended by the mere fact you're trying to blind an eyeless, primordial horror from a mosntrous and cruel dimension ruled by a Lovecraftian Horror. You're hurting its feelings.

  • @Hoodied said:

Yes, you can. For most battle passes it will probably take you several hours a day to achieve this though. A much more significant investment than most players will make. It is like a buffet. They are betting most will not eat more than they pay.

Yeah but you're given 70 days to eat at this buffet and the food stays fresh for the entire duration. Sure, tryhard players will blow through it in a day or two but casual to average players shouldn't be facing a lot of work if they play for a few hours on the weekend.

  • @rch614 said:

I see the "danger" but in the end it is all on the customer on what they want to buy. Their current iteration of the battle pass is fair and one heck of a deal and as of right now they aren't giving us a reason to distrust them like so many other companies that run battlepasses do.

If they prove us otherwise, people will speak up. But until then I trust them.

BHVR is good on their word. I don't intend to sound like a corporate shill. Horse Armor was my time too so I'm well aware of how awful predatory DLCs can be but the the Rift seems fair to me and I'll roll with it until proven otherwise.

  • @HorsePower said:

Spirit better be next. I love flipping a coin during chases haha!!

This is my only issue with Spirit. I hate losing a chase not because I was out mindgamed but because I chose heads when the Spirit chose tails and the coin fell in her favor. Like, c'mon, give me some meat to work with other than staring at her character model's hair and waiting for it to get all twitchy and "V" shaped.

Ehh, technically, you don't earn back your money, you earn back the currency you bought with your money.

Which is still nice in a way: If you put in the effort, you'll have bought $20 pack for $10.

Yeah, exactly. But what I'm further implying is that you can get hundreds of dollars of cosmetics over the years with just a $10 entrance fee, per se. That's why I'm excited.

  • @Boss said:

    From a +2K player, non-sarcastically, i welcome this.

From a 1300+ player, I welcome this as well. Free crap for a onetime $10 investment that lets me earn that cash back ingame for just playing it. DBD is my most played game as of the last three years so I'm glad that I now have a solid reason to play it as much as I do other than just leveling and prestiging. Once rank rewards come out, I'll be one happy camper.

Otherwise why would I hop on the battle pass train, if I can just cherry pick the ones i want from the shop after?

Because you get bloodpoints, charms, early access to cosmetics, and you earn all your cells back if you complete it? Meaning, free crap if you put in the time. I dunno about you, but that sounds amazing to me.

  • Boom, the battle pass woes have been solved. Thanks for being one of the few good guys in a sea of greed, BHVR.

Insta heals dead and a Nurse nerf.

What a time to be alive.

Truly, we live in the strangest timeline.

  • Tweak keys, remove insteaheals, tweak spirit, lower the recharge time for two blinks down to 4 seconds and we'll have the most balanced this game has ever been. Check out some footage from beta DBD and Year 1 and say I'm wrong, I'm not. PTBs exist for a reason, let's test the content out, give feedback, and watch them decide what's best for the game. As a Nurse player, I'm glad she's getting her addons tweaked, to be honest, her basekit changes are inconsequential to me.

If these are the dark ages, let them come. I've seen far worse happen in this game.

What if Pig could add barbwire to windows and downed pallets that cause all vaults on that spot to be "slow" or possibly cause injury to non-injured survivors?

I mean I don't know about you but I "want to play a game"!

Yes, this would be excellent. Maybe 10 wires that can be used at a time. Perhaps if one fast vaults a barbed wire window they become injured or downed but while slow vaulting it just doubles the time it takes to vault.

What does Steve and Ash have to do with anything

Im talking about the whiny crowd that even complained about Leatherface getting the Claudette face, saying it was racist! Even though all the other original survivors had the faces that leatherface could get. They would have said it was racist if she wasnt included.

    Cant win

"I have an issue that every time a male character is added, the crying starts about it not being a female"

That is why Steve and Ash matter. They were two of the most wanted survivors period. Didn't matter that they are dudes. What mattered was that they were wanted because of how cool they are. Make sense now?

  • Tunnel Bandit/Season 2 Steve with Shades is for sure coming. Question is, when? I hope we get it after the mid chapter we have at the end of the month or so.

You're obviously seeing something I'm not. Steve and Ash were two of the most requested survivors in this game, period.

  • @Tensor said:

    Beverley would be my choice.

    Plus, it's a girl....and .... PC culture....

PC Culture? Good god, don't you dare bring that up over Bev getting added. What a garbage strawman.

  • To be honest, I'm actually excited that they altered this event. I love the concept of a secondary objective but survivors just want the serum and killers can just stomp them. As others have said, it was super easy to get 4ks last October and super hard to escape. Also, if the leaked skin names turn out to be true, I hope that the "Vigo's Marauder" skin is Legion, not Jake. Was really looking forward to a totally blighted Frank.

God, to this day "IT" remains one of my favorite stories but I absolutely hate how King handles Stanley. What a goddamn waste.

  • The sad truth of this is the same as every other bodyblocking spot: it's up to you to be diligent enough to report the abuser and make sure you don't propagate such behavior.

  • Myers, the light amount of blood on the mask is actually beautiful. Freddy, since his rework and the gratuitous blood details of the dream world, him being covered in blood looks amazing. Ghostface, I for one, am irked at the light gray and shiny leather of his default outfit and would prefer a full on black one, but, since I can't get that ingame without a stupid red or silver stripe on his cloak, the prestige outfit gives him a ton of great camo and his mask reminds me of those goofy, blood-dripping Ghostface masks they sell.

For survivors, Ash, Quentin, and Steve dominate. Ash is known for being drenched in blood and gore throughout the films and the show so his prestige should match this and it does, perfectly. Quentin is up here despite his goblin looks because of the detail of his P3, the scars and slash marks from Freddy on his face look amazing. It makes me wish other survivors got similar prestige outfits. Finally, Steve "The Hair" Harrington is the last best prestige to me because of the detail again. His busted knuckles, the blood making "scars" on his face, serving as a form of war paint, and the bloody and stained jeans and sneakers truly contribute to a totally killer look.

It's kinda weird, we have Trapper, Dwight, and Hag who all look like they've been dunked in ketchup but then we have the licensed characters who look absolutely insane.

Honorable Mentions: Leatherface and Doc, red on yellow and red on white just look super sweet.

  • No, god damnit, not again. We are not nerfing Freddy again because of a garbage nitpick to his kit. The snares, as Raccoon said, take time to arm and asleep survivors are well aware of where they are, they're not OP and you have to make sure you can place them properly on top of all this. And unlike Clown's slowdown, survivors can avoid snares the entire game no matter how hard Freddy tries to get them to run over them. A well-aimed bottle from the worst clown player imaginable can still lead to slowing survivors down, whereas a well-placed trap from the best Fredster alive is still up to the survivors to run over, making the snare useless if avoided. Plus his lunge? He's a short little goblin, his range just looks longer than normal because of his height.

  • First thing that sticks out to me is Demo being better than Freddy and Hag. If anything, Freddy and Hag are on the same level of quality while the Demo falls behind Hag. Both Freddy and Hag can end loops super quickly with their powers while the Demo has to rely on an early pallet drop, gullible survivors who fall for bait, or a straightaway section of a loop.

  • @ad19970 said:

I'm surprised people want Rule Set No. 2 in base kit. I personally don't think that would be good. The main purpose of Pig's Reversed Bear Traps is to slow the game down, not kill survivors.

If it becomes part of the base kit, then you could use the addon that increases the available jigsaw boxes by one and the addon that decreases the Bear Trap timer. It would be way too likely to get kills via Reversed Bear Traps. And probably very annoying for survivors as well since it's based on rng.

One buff I would love to see is for survivors to have a 0% chance to receive the key for your Reveresed Bear Trap in the first Jigsaw Box you search. But Rule Set No. 2 would be too good in my opinion.

As of right now, the RBTs are lame. Rules Set No. 2 makes the game feel like SAW.

i just want traps to actually be stressful and not just a minor annoyance. it would fit SAW a lot more if survivors actually feared the traps.

This 100% this. As someone who mains Pig along with the Fredster, I agree. If the traps get too many kills, they can be tweaked, but the traps are meant to be scary. People need to realize that Amanda rigged the games to screw with the players, it shouldn't be easy/fair.

  • To get the most bang for your buck, run Second Wind with Bond or Empathy. I prefer bond because of the knowledge of all teammates within a range as opposed to global injured knowledge. I get Second Wind to proc at least once every game as long as I run Bond.
