I don't understand you. You want a perk to be completely useless? Lol. Of course it should work sometimes. You make it sounds like you should never be able to break free from killer's grasp by using this perk. Hilarious.

The problem isn't that it never works and people are afraid of it sometimes working. It's that it's now possible to create a situation where it always works. At that point, where survivors bring map offerings and continually run to the same corner to become immune to hooking, the perk is not fair.

But we'll have to see how it pans out.

I guess that's true, it's not bugged. But anytime they announce changes, it causes a small influx of excess use before the change goes through (keys, moris, Iri-Head, etc.)

I'm just afraid that more people will be using the mask in a bad way before since it's going to go away

You honestly raise a disturbing point. I expect there's going to be an uptick of this, including from people who never did this before or were even aware there was an issue, as a form of protest.

    Blegh.

Show me a reason not to assume the default and we can continue this discussion. Otherwise, we're done here.

"The number of players who used Smartface to harass are an extremely small portion of the playerbase who had a disproportionate effect because they were not dealt with in a timely manner."

    Based on what information?

Common sense? Personal experience? The majority of players not being screamingly racist and instead being here to play the game? What information do you have to prove otherwise? Because if you want to tell me that a significant portion of this playerbase griefs based on race, I think you're the one holding the burden of proof here.

I'm certainly not going to assume anyone who was using the Smartface mask was racist until they did something to corroborate that. Take any of the following.

    -Chat abuse

-Facecamping/nodding/hitting a Claudette/Elodie/Tapp/Adam while ignoring all other survivors, and deliberately letting everyone who is white escape. Facecamping/nodding/hitting everyone he catches is kind of just a Bubba thing at this point.

-The above also has to happen devoid of any other context; i.e., if the targeted player was tbagging the Bubba or got a flashlight save on him, the Bubba may just be salty.

If we're going to assume everyone who used Smartface was racist, or even Schrodinger's racist, that is a problem.

What do you do when lots of people are throwing eggs from your basket to your house nonstop?

I'm not really interested in pursuing this metaphor, as I don't think it reflects the situation at hand. When it was nonstop, it was the acts of a few people at most repeatedly targeting the same player. The number of players who used Smartface to harass are an extremely small portion of the playerbase who had a disproportionate effect because they were not dealt with in a timely manner.

If we are going to keep going with this metaphor, I'd still say arrest the people, because eggs are important foodstuffs and necessary to bake so many things, and I want them as food more than I don't want them as tools of harassment; eggs bring more good to the table than they bring bad. Banning eggs because people have been egged is silly. That said, I consider eggs more important than Bubba cosmetics and this whole thing falls apart really quickly.

Still... I maintain that the issue is the people, not the vehicle. Removing Smartface did nothing to stop the people who want to be racist twats from being racist twats, and they are still going to be racist twats until BHVR addresses the real problem in this room and cobbles together a moderation system that doesn't operate on spit, triplicate, and month-long backlogs.

  • @KolbyKolbyKolby said:

It removes a tool used for racist behavior.

If you had neighbors that hated you and they kept vandalizing your car overnight by throwing eggs out of the basket of eggs you keep on your front lawn, removing the basket of eggs you keep on your front lawn probably wouldn't stop it all together, but it would remove a method they use to do it. That's the point.

Limiting ways people can cause harm to others is important as well.

I mean, yes, but now nobody gets to have eggs and you still have racist neighbors that have it out for you.

Because this is less about you personally leaving a basket of eggs out on the lawn and more that eggs exist.

I dislike this change because it lets BHVR pretend like they're doing something about their awful community without having to actually deal with their awful community. I truly doubt that removing Smartface is going to reduce instances of racist behavior at all, because it is sidestepping the issue that moderation is really slow and user-unfriendly and players can get away with so much garbage before they finally get the boot because action on BHVR's part takes so. damn. long. The situations where a PoC streamer gets matched with or streamsniped by a racist shitheel - is the outcome actually going to be any different now that the shitheel doesn't have Smartface? I'm not convinced.

Seems to me like the problem here is the racist neighbors not getting evicted, not the basket of eggs.

  • Somehow I knew that locking the first thread was going to result in a bunch of unfinished-business splinter threads.

Hot topics are like hydras that way.

I do agree with the second paragraph, though. Removing Smartface does nothing when the real issue is that BHVR drags its feet when it comes to banning bad actors, so one racist fuckface can rain sewage on far too many players before they finally get the boot. I don't see how removing the cosmetic is going to fix the harassment issue that awful people are allowed to be awful people for a really long time before moderation does anything about it and I see this decision as a sad kind of confirmation that BHVR doesn't want to put the resources towards fixing the actual problem.

  • There's so many things wrong with this that I don't know where to start.

Like this equivalence would have made way more sense if Felix was the killer. And now I'm just imagining killer Felix.

  • I actually think Nemesis's buffed iri addons are pretty great? They finally figured out that a short window of exposed after a vaccine is useless and turned it into a lasting threat, and made the STARS badge even better with turning fast zombies into turbo zombies. 2.5 m/s for a minute is pretty solid; the harassment potential is great, and the only thing that holds this addon back is the tendency for zombies to get caught on environmental objects. Which is a major issue, don't get me wrong, but I have no problems with the addon itself. The nerf to Marvin's wasn't especially big, either.

I don't tolerate the lack of boon nerfs, though! So we even out.

Should players also DC against Freddy because pedophilia makes them uncomfortable?

I mean, if it genuinely bothered them, yeah? You don't ######### around with trauma. It's not something that someone needs to justify.

DCing against X because of legitimate personal reasons isn't a big issue in the grand scheme of things. I remember hearing about someone who DCed when they loaded into Midwich because they had PTSD triggered by air raid siren sound that plays at the start and the exit gates. Can't fault anyone for that.

  • I'm pretty damn disappointed. When was the last time we had a map update? It's been what, 9 months? A killer rework? I guess there was Trickster a few months ago, but other than that, zzz. I'll take the occasional empty midchapter, but it's been so many where nothing of import has changed. At least half of the buffs don't address underlying problems with the perk or addon and a great number of pressing issues with the current state of the game were not addressed - nothing on facecamping, nothing on CoH or boons in general, nothing on Dead Hard or validation feeding bad information and eating powers.

Yesterday looked incredibly promising, today's just eugh.

We have people on this forum with shards in the six figures. It's good for people who haven't played a long time. I have zero use for shards at this point. I don't care for any of the shard buyable cosmetics (the ones I like are strangely always cells only) and I have no use for the shrine as I have all perks. The next character will not be buyable with shards, either, and I won all current characters. So it doesn't really do anything for me.

It should have been cells because YOU CAN'T BUY A BUBBA COSMETIC WITH SHARDS. I am fine with removing the mask but I think the compensation isn't fair and it should have just been 400 cells so people could go buy one of the pay for Bubba masks.

I'm Devotion 7 and I still hunger for shards. You need to have a lot of playtime before you've unlocked every character and every shard outfit on every character that interests you, and even then, they can be converted to bloodpoints, so they're never worthless, just worth less.

I've already explained why giving cells out isn't a feasible decision on BHVR's part, even if it would serve as a more one-to-one compensation in this case. Ultimately, it's a free cosmetic that's being taken away and I understand that they're not giving paid compensation.

  • @SunsetSherbet said:

And of course, no meaningful compensation. Here's some shards that anyone with lots of hours essentially has no use for. How about give us cells so we can buy a Bubba mask? Honestly this seems more like a scheme to make people buy bubba mask DLC since they're losing the free ones.

I think the shards are pretty sweet compensation. That's 2/3 of the shards to buy a new character right there, and most of a purple cosmetic. 6000 is a lot.

They can't give out cells because they outright lose money in royalties if you use free cells to buy licensed content.

Literally. People on here acting like making the game a more comofortable space for POC content creators is the end of the world.

    Very disheartening IMO.

I don't like it because it signals to me that BHVR will take the route of removing content rather than actually fixing the issue that raging dickbags are allowed to rampage in their game for weeks or months on end before they finally get the axe, and are able to harass far too many players in the meantime. It strikes me as an unpleasant precedent on two levels, because I don't know what will end up on the chopping block for expediency's sake in the future, and I do know they're not looking to actually fix the problems with their community - and I'm skeptical that this will actually have any effect on reducing how much people will be harassed on the basis of what race they are or what character they're playing, because Smartface or no Smartface, they are still going to get matched with a racist #########, and that person will still act awful in the match and harass them in chat, on stream, et cetera.

I want the racist ######### to have the hammer of God dropped on them immediately rather than losing everything that can conceivably be used in a racist way and going "Okay, we've fixed that problem now, everything is fine", and I want more resources put into the game's moderation to make this a reality, not band-aid solutions that take things away from the vast majority of players who were using them honestly.

It's the Player TEST Build. You really shouldn't be giving feedback if you're not even going to test the perks before writing it; you're skewing the evidence.

Alright. Sure. Show me I'm wrong tomorrow, then. I'll be waiting.

I don't think it's wrong of me to provide useful feedback on where they could take these perks and why their current design flops. I've already tested these perks and the fixes they're offering aren't ones my experience tells me will do anything. It's PTB feedback. I'm providing feedback about what's in the PTB. Were console players not allowed to make any comments about the content they saw in the PTB because they didn't personally play it out?

  • @OnryosTapeRentals said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2729843#Comment_2729843

You've already written feedback on a PTB that hasn't even released yet???

There's a difference between preparedness and confirmation bias. If you go into the PTB expecting it all to be bad then of course you're going to think it's bad...

Feedback based on the changes that are in today's patch notes. If they make changes to those perks between today and tomorrow, then obviously what I've written will be moot.

Several of the perks had changes that don't address why they're bad perks. I don't need to test them to know that letting Furtive Chase keep tokens on the Obsession's death does not make Furtive Chase's effect any less useless than it currently is, or that extending Buckle Up's aura reading does not address the issue of Buckle Up rarely ever providing information that you don't already have, or that Coup de Grace is primarily hamstringed by not being able to manually activate the perk and not being allowed to lunge until you want to use one of your very limited super-lunges.

Meanwhile, there are perks like Boil Over, Power Struggle, and Gearhead that I want to test before deciding whether they're better or not in their current state. I haven't made all my judgements yet, but some of them are pretty obvious at this state of the game.

  • I mean... I like the Nemesis iri changes? And Dead Man's Switch looks good now?

Can't really say I'm feeling it with these patch notes. Already got a PTB feedback post written up for tomorrow on why most of the perk changes missed the mark and how they can actually be improved.

  • A lot of the addon buffs and nerfs are nerfing addons that are used disproportionately often (usually lower rarity) and buffing addons that aren't used at all (usually iris.) Some of the iri buffs this patch were really nice, while others missed the point (family crest, just... no.)

I don't have too much issue with the addon tweaks. Pinky Finger was way too easy to backrev and you can still iribelt it with the +2 bottle addon. But I'm extremely unhappy that boons have not been addressed and we didn't get a Legion or Ghostface rework.

  • @thrawn3054 said:

They were banning people for this. The problem is you can't get them all. They elected to remove the thing giving them the option to behave in an awful manner.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2729712#Comment_2729712

Is it guaranteed to work? No, but it can't hurt. As I said in another thread if it stops it happening once it's worth it to me.

But, like, is removing Smartface actually going to reduce instances of racism? Because these people are still racist twits on DBD and I don't see what's stopping them from facecamping a Claudette and spewing hate in the endgame chat. This only does anything if Smartface made the racism worse in and of itself. Which maybe it did in some way I can't understand.

I just want this game to have half-decent moderation and I think this is trying to band-aid the issue in entirely the wrong way.

  • @Mandy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2729686#Comment_2729686

That's the kind of comment that I'm happy to read.

I'm genuinely baffled and beyond disappointed that so many people are happy to tolerate hate against other human beings on this thread and are trying to compare it to things like t-bagging.

I'm not tolerating anything. I'm saying you're addressing the wrong issue and that taking away a cosmetic doesn't do anything to stop the kind of pea-brained player who boots up DBD looking to harass people on the basis of who they are.

The only way to prevent these people from having any tools to be disgusting without handling them from a moderation standpoint is to make every character a white cishet male, remove the pride charm, and remove the endgame chat, and obviously that is not a solution. I guess I'm just not thrilled that we're going part of the way down that road and removing content for everybody when the actual solution for the problem they present is fast and reactive moderation that doesn't waffle over whether harassment isn't bad enough to count. And I find it depressing that we're going this way, because that implies to me that DBD's not really interested in putting the resources towards more successful in-game moderation.

  • Increasing the lunge is great, but the main issue of Coup is and will always be that you can't choose when to activate the perk and you can't normal lunge without wasting a token, making token management a hindrance to normal gameplay.

  • Mostly I don't understand how removing the masks will actually stop those players from doing what they're doing. They're still racist #########. Taking away a cosmetic doesn't turn them into normal players who won't try to grief and harass people on the basis of race.

The moderation in this game needs to be quicker and better, full stop.

Well, it was fun to do the challenges to be able to play the different faces freely. It's a shame to have to go this route because of some racist rats, but I think it's the only right decision. The 6000 shards as compensation makes it a bit more bearable for me and I can live with that. But... what about the black Huntress mask? Will it hit her too?

That's a black-painted bunny mask, not a black person's taxidermied face, so I can't imagine why that would be an issue.

  • @Lochnload_exe said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2729614#Comment_2729614

I guess i just play different, I always see that as a positive thing for me, it means in the first 20 seconds of the match people were doing boons instead of gens.

The problem with that is that since you (...or at least I) patrol gens, don't know where non-hex totems are, and blessing has a very quiet and short-distance sound cue, you generally don't find anyone when they're off on totems and it ends up being a dead 15-30 seconds for you - the exception being on maps like Autohaven and MacMillan where most of the totem spawns are right next to gens or herp derp exposed. It's the Corrupt Intervention issue all over again, except it's way shorter and the benefit is better.

The way boons were designed implies they're supposed to have dynamic counterplay by killers, but I just find that doesn't pan out in practice and they can be much too oppressive. I don't think you're going to change my mind on this - Thrill hasn't done enough for me, and I've had a slew of matches where I got throttled and could not for the life of me figure out what I was supposed to have done.

  • @IamFran said:

So you are telling me that removing a single mask bad, and removing all good, try to don't think in controversies and only community wise, you are a player, are you happy for having all the masks removed instead of just only one? also in the only killer along with Freddy who has no cosmetic aside the prestige ones. Alligning you with the removal of all masks is like being more catholic than the pope.

Have you read any of my other posts in this thread? I'm pissed about the removal. I just think that removing only Claudette would have been an equally bad decision.

Mainly, my stance is that this doesn't tackle the root of the issue and the players who were using the Smartface mask to harass PoC still have plenty of ways to harass people on the basis of race, gender, orientation, etc. You have to kick out those players as soon as they crop up and out themselves, not remove every aspect of the game they can possibly use to be gross.

That would require the IP holders to sign off on it. If it is true that the IP holders were preventing BHVR from removing the cosmetics (until recently, at least), then I doubt they'd approve of your suggestion.

True. Well, that's just a damn shame.

eh then those aren't really boon problems, those are just bad game design problems. Bad maps will be bad maps

The multiple CoH issue kills me on every map, though. They set them up before touching gens, so I don't find them before the game starts in earnest, and I just have to deal with survivors healing at warp speed everywhere because there's no way to handle the boons.

Multiple Shadow Steps can be pretty insane too, but only on indoor maps.

  • @IamFran said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2729515#Comment_2729515

It would created as much controversy but with more cosmetics for Bubba, the community benefiting. I repeat the same, removing all the masks is like using a sledgehammer to crack nuts.

And also, I don't think your opinion is honest, you're an employee and you can be fired if you disagree with the bosses in public.

Eh, I think they're right about removing one or removing all. You remove one, now the issue is that Claudette is excluded and that BHVR's leaving out the black survivor.

I just don't think removing the masks outright was the right way to deal with this problem.

  • @Lochnload_exe said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2729119#Comment_2729119

and that is totally fine, I'm not saying that this is the only way to deal with boons, just a pretty standard and easy way. I honestly play like I always do, I just have my gen defense and like some slowdown and I still do fine, it is all about practice.

I find I usually don't have issues dealing with one boon, but when there's several boons across the map, or the survivors bring a map offering with a boon spot that can be abused, I'm just super screwed and I can't keep up. (Unless I'm Vommy Mommy, then everything's coolsies.) But I can't sacrifice half of my perks on the chance that survivors are going to send me to RCPD and play a hell game.

  • @Mandy said:

It's not about "whiners" it's about the fact that these were proven to be used to harass our players in a hateful manner - that's not something we're going to support and we're certainly not going to make it easier for people to do this in our game.

So... not better moderation. Not changing the content so that it can no longer be used in a hateful way (there were talks of changing the faces to having survivor keepsakes attached to them, and that would have been delightful.)

Just removing content. And the niftiest way to unlock content, at that.

It's really not hard for people to continue to be racist asshats using other things in the game. Removing the faces is not going to fix this problem. You will still have dipshits going after every Elodie, Claudette, Adam, people with pride charms, etc. The issue is with disgusting people playing the game. They'll always find ways to be disgusting for as long as they're allowed to continue playing.

The devs have said CoH is fine and aren't looking to change it right now. Killers need to just get over it. I don't have much issue with it.

    Ah, yes, extremely useful information.

What killers do you play? And what is your strategy for a match where 3-4 CoHs go up at the start before anyone does gens, or recurring CoH in RCPD library/Ironworks/Pantry/Thompson House? Be pretty interested to hear why it's not an issue for you, because from where I'm standing, it's double speed heals for the whole team, infinite brown medkits, a complete waste of time to try to keep on top of (and you only even have the illusion of keeping on top of it if there's just one player using it, otherwise playing whack-a-mole with all the totems would leave you no room to ever chase survivors) and playing a killer that relies on split pressure is suffering. Plague and instadowners uber alles - Wraith, Legion, and Twins sob in a corner.

I also take some issue with the whole camping/tunneling is equivalent to clicky clicky tbagging. I'll head this off with saying that camping and tunneling are extremely unfun and I don't like them. I avoid doing them unless survivors have managed to piss me off. But they have strategic purposes. A killer that does them is usually employing these tactics to win, and for them, winning is fun. Even if I don't share it, I can respect that mindset much more than I respect players who tbag and insult the killer in chat, because that breed of fun comes from upsetting another player - that's its purpose and point, not gaining a strategic advantage.

Then I'll do that tomorrow, thank you.

  • @Rizzo said:

The Developer Update is not the PTB patch-notes, it's a showcase of some of the changes that are coming, but it doesn't cover all the changes that the PTB will have.

Then I sincerely hope they've got some of the most important stuff tucked away for tomorrow, because Part 2 is... pretty bad. Didn't address some major issues with current gameplay and didn't deliver any promised character reworks. And Bubba's masks getting nuked is just depressing.

I wonder if the developers would be interested in a dialogue about the perk changes? Several of the perks they tried to buff are still really, really bad because the buff didn't address a massive flaw with the perk's design. Dead Man's Switch and Gearhead got buffs that fixed their issues. Distortion fails because there's no way to regenerate tokens, so if a killer has BBQ or any aura addons, they're going to burn through everything you've got at the start of the trial and then it's a dead perk. Remember Me flops because No Way Out trumps it in every conceivable way and it doesn't bring anything to the table that that perk doesn't, and also because Remember Me doesn't affect the Obsession and there's one player that can open the gates like normal. Buckle Up is just a bad effect that players can figure out by themselves - killer aura reading isn't strong enough to justify the perk, and very often in slug pickup situations, the killer is very close by and you don't need an aura read to see them. What Buckle Up needs is some numbers buff around pickups, or Endurance to the player who gets picked up, or something tangible. And Furtive Chase no longer losing its effect if the Obsession dies is great (really, losing tokens when the Obsession dies should rarely be a thing), but losing your TR in chase is just not a useful effect. The person you're chasing already knows you're nearby. Nearby players will see you running after the survivor and hear all the fast vaults. I think the point of the perk is to be able to break off from a chase and surprise someone nearby, but that's something that either works perfectly on its own due to survivors feeling assured that you're wrapped up in chasing someone else and ignore the nearby TR, or it doesn't work because they're on comms and tell each other what you're doing.

I agree completely it also blows my mind that they buffed pig (not saying she didn't need it she did)

But nerfed clown like what are you thinking?

Eh, I'm not too bothered by the nerf to Pinky Finger. I dislike that killer addons have lately been getting weaker and less impactful, but Pinky Finger is super easy to backrev, more or less.

The addon changes were a mixed bag. Iridescent Umbrella Badge desperately needed what they did to it, but Iridescent Family Crest is still a pretty bad design that only helps you in situations you shouldn't be getting into. Wooden Fox is still just a bad idea and the favored Twins ones just chipped at a killer that already has negative QoL.

in Part 2 Comment by Laluzi
  • I am deeply unimpressed by part 2. Many of the perk changes don't address the fundamental issues with those perks (Furtive Chase, Buckle Up, Remember Me, Distortion) and therefore didn't make them worthwhile. There was no Legion or Ghostface rework. Nothing about CoH or Deathslinger. Nothing about faulty hit validation. And I'm pissed about the removal of all the Bubba masks because a vocal minority of players was complaining about one of them (and even then, most players agreed it would be better to change the masks, not nuke them entirely) and because it sidesteps the actual moderation problem of racist whackjobs not being removed in a timely fashion.

Even then, a killer does not need 4 gen slowdown to do good, it is why most builds also have 1 or 2 info perks. Replace those with anti boon perks since killers act like they are impossible to deal with, and they arent anymore. Loads of builds have come out to be heavy anti boon perks.

There's slowdown perks, there's chase perks, there's lethality perks, there's info perks. I've experimented with anti-boon perks, but I just don't have the freedom to give up half my build for perks that will be gone within two minutes anyway.

  • Your MMR lowering if you don't play the game for a long time isn't really any different from how your rank would reset a tier each month and eventually regress all the way to 20.

If anything, it'll probably be less impactful than that was.

The actual reason why is that the original Badham Preschool (now Badham 1) was not adequately randomised. The streets and buildings were in the same position every time, unlike Haddonfield, which went against the game's whole concept at the time of the maps never being the exact same every match.

Because the way the map was built didn't allow for that kind of customization, they resolved it by creating the other four versions, then reducing the likelihood of selection for all five maps so that, when combined, you were as likely to go to Springwood as any other single map realm. It's just bad luck on your part.

Aren't pretty much all the maps that static, though? Rubble and pallet placement varies, and you'll have things like Autohaven where a different vehicle may be generated at a certain location, or Haddonfield where the three non-Myers houses swap places, but for the most part, buildings and jungle gyms are generated at the same positions every time. Badham stands out to me because actually rotating its layout is something that no other map does.

    Badham is a killer-sided map.

What? Badham is the most survivor-sided map there is. I will gladly take the Game, Haddonfield, or RCPD over this nightmare (pun unintentional but accepted for what it is) of a map. There isn't any map I moan at loading into more.

To the OP, they're all rearrangements of the tiles, with more locational shuffling than pertains to any other map. None are that much better or worse than the others, though; the primary issue with Badham is that there is always a strong building close to your location, and rotating them doesn't do anything to change that. There's also still way too many fences, the gens are miles apart from each other, and there's an abundance of low loops that can't be mindgamed. (Haddonfield also has a ton of buildings, fences, and gens that are too far apart, but you can get a decent 3-gen in it and most of the dead zone pallets are less safe.)

I would like to know what stat tracker you are looking at because as far as I know dbd doesn't have a Stat tracker and if it's a 3rd party then it's only those who put there info into it are on it.

It seems non reliable if it's a 3rd party thing.

It pulls data from Steam. It's accurate, although of course it only reads data from one platform and it only tracks information that is stored for achievements (which is a lot of information, but it's still not universal and it only begins to track something when an achievement for it is created.)

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to link to third party websites, though; I've had posts deleted in the past. Google "dead by daylight stats tracker" if you're curious; there's a few of them around.

  • I like Bills. They're so rarely mean and they're either clueless babies or diehard team players, both of which I've got a soft spot for.

  • I think the issue with Trickster is that you can't juke his shots or cause him to miss in any meaningful way. When he's got knives, the outcome of your chases is purely decided by terrain. Obviously there's still plenty of skill in your choices where to run and how well you run it, but if you're in the open, he's going to kill you whether you're looking behind you and predicting his actions or not.

I don't mind him, though. Feels balanced to me and the counterplay is clear.

There's another sect of people that vehemently hate Trickster because they think he doesn't fit this genre of horror, but that's its own subjective issue.

Not necessarily but I perform 10x better with Jane than I do with Jeff

I actually had a dream once where you were Jane and I was playing a game against you. I hooked you, and the other three survivors were hiding in a corner together on BBQ and I had to grab one and bring them over to the hook because none of them knew how to play. The map was half MacMillan and half my house.

Can't tell if prophetic or if you just used to have a Jane avatar.

Maybe you should try and swap to killer main for a week. Or play something else! Civilazation is a good game

Sluzzy's a god Nurse, IIRC. I always see their name on the front page of the DBD stats tracker I use.

  • These things have been asked for. The wiggle thing feels like a follow-up to the struggle mechanic getting changed from button mashing, which was heavily requested.

I actually think BHVR has been trying to address common topics lately - moreso than I've seen in the past. Survivors need a secondary objective = boons. Gens speeds are uncounterable = several recent viable gen delay perks. Solo survivor is way too weak/SWF are overpowered = pending balance changes. We got scourge hooks and boons as new mechanics back to back. Keys just got nerfed and pallet validation fixed 90% of hits through pallets. Whether all of these were answered properly or adequately, probably not (boons........), but "they're not listening at all" doesn't feel fair when we've actually had quite a few hot topics addressed lately.

Jury's out on the hacker epidemic, though. There is no war in Ba Sing Se.

  • It's a great start, and I'm excited both as a killer and solo survivor, but there's a few things that won't be addressed.

-Having good information will improve teammate decisionmaking, but it's the old 'lead a horse to water' adage. How many times have I run Kindred and nobody's bothered to get me? Or how many times have I watched all three survivors sit together on the same gen while I dangle on a hook? SWFs get to pick their teammates and can avoid derpbuckets and self-serving players; when SWFs play with bad teammates, it's usually because they're coaching their friends how to play the game and don't mind taking the hit. While information is good, nothing short of voice comms can get random players to make good decisions (and even that can't make players do anything, it can just tell them the right thing to do if they're not figuring that out on their own.)

-Building on this, MMR. Better information means solos are slightly less likely to fall into the idiot teammate pit of doom, but slightly is only slightly and facing worse killers is still a death sentence when two or three of your teammates don't know how to play the game. MMR still punishes survivors for losing, unlike killers where dropping your MMR will unequivocally get you easier matches.

-SWFs still have way better information than solos will; the HUD only covers a portion of what comms can. Even without communication, knowing your teammates' perks is a massive influence on decisionmaking and coordination, which isn't included in the current proposal.

I'm very happy about this, but I've still gotta temper that with some caution - it won't fix solo queue on its own.

  • If you're talking about the solo survivor buffs - from a killer perspective, I could not be more thrilled about this. It's a chance that we'll finally see the game balanced for SWF instead of being told "it's not that big a deal" while the game balances for players playing blind.

If we have to get solo survivor buffed before killer is buffed so they can gather the data on how things look, so be it. The end result is addressing what I'd argue is the biggest and oldest problem with this game.

I will never understand why whichever license holder is like that. (Especially when they had no problem changing the Stranger Things achievements when they were still possible to do for everyone. I know that was more of a special case though, but come on!)

I especially hate it now more than ever. With mmr it's like, one instance of getting too much value out of your perk/power or killing survivors too fast and you could be trying to correct that mistake to get to a point where you're even getting kills again all day.

The Stranger Things ones got changed because it was going to become truly impossible for new players to get them, which is the only situation they'll allow changes. Same with "Where did they go?", because a 4-man hatch escape is no longer possible. But god, I wish they'd do a pass for the edge cases. Left For Dead has become essentially impossible since endgame collapse became a thing, but you can still get it if a killer permits you to do it (granted, the stars have to align to get in that situation in the first place - 2.2k hours of gameplay, only ever repaired the last gen as the only survivor 4 times) or if you get doubly lucky with long-distance gates and having Wake Up and Spine Chill.

There is one benefit with MMR. While your average matches are going to be even worse, which makes getting 10+ hooks using only Shadowborn/Bloodhound/Predator or Gearhead/Dead Man's Switch/Retribution really damn dicey, a full red-to-ash rank reset will happen every month, so while it's still stupidly arbitrary how it works, you can designate a few days of the month to go for adepts before the rank pip requirements start biting you in the butt again. Adepts are much easier for the killers who suffer with Chaser emblems when you only need silver Chaser to make it work; the only still-troublesome killer is Hag, since you need her Third Seal and Devour Hope to get cleansed but want to keep Ruin (Third Seal causes solos to die on first hook, denying Devout and Chaser, and you know the issue with Devour Hope.)

Slugging and camping aren't really problems, though. They're valid playstyles. Both with plenty of counters.

Just because something's a valid playstyle doesn't mean it should be encouraged. The ideal game is one that has interaction on both sides because it consistently allows for the most fun on both sides; the necessity or overly high benefit of strategies that deny interaction and prevent a player from playing is a deeper problem to be addressed, not something that BHVR wants to happen more often. That kind of thing is bad for player retention and general game enjoyment - people don't like being camped to death any more than people like having 5 gens done 4-5 minutes into the game, so it stands to reason that the developers should want to make them less attractive, not more.

  • This is really easily countered by just not turning stealth back on until the hooked survivor doesn't have LoS on you anymore. Like I only ever had a problem with this in the very first game or two that I played Ghostface. Then I went "oh, okay, you turn stealth on after you've moved away from the hook" and it was never an issue again.

I understand the argument against it, but I don't really mind it because the only thing it prevents is camping, which I have no especial desire to encourage. Besides, you can still do it, you just need to position yourself somewhere where the hooked player can't get you on the center of your screen.

  • Hawkins or nighttime Coldwind. That yellow sky had a really cool feel to it, like the area was lit by a massive wildfire.

    Also, marginally less evil corn.
