  • I think it's okay to find keys in chests, but I wish keys only worked for one person. That way, in the 3-gen situation, if they find a key, one can betray the others and leave (which is interesting), but they can't all just jump in the hatch.

    • You get unhooked and immediately run back to my totem.
    • You go out of your way to stay near me until your BT runs out, instead of trying to get away.
    • I can't find the person who unhooked you.
  • I have slow reaction times and poor spatial awareness so... amazing game choice from me.

If we're looking for stuff I can kind of control, then I think the weakness I have on both sides is that I tend to not want to snowball. If things are going well, my instinct is to take my foot off the gas. I don't know why.

  • I don't do it deliberately but, when I do, it's usually because:

    • I didn't see you until it was too late to change where I was running.
    • I already chained together every other structure I could, and the only safe place I have to run is the structure you're in.
    • The killer is really slow, and I thought they dropped chase, but now we're suddenly back in chase again.

I am not quick-witted enough to bring the killer to a teammate I don't like. I'm mostly just looking for pallets.

  • I think it would be frustrating, because it would be outside of anyone's control.

But I think it might work to have a similar system where, instead of getting buffs, people got time-limited tasks where they could get bonus points if they did an objective before time ran out. So, instead of saying, "For the next 30 seconds you go faster," more like, "For the next 30 seconds, you get bonus XP if you down a survivor."

Part of the reason I suggest that is because people would have an element of choice then about how to respond. They could ignore the task and play as normal, or they could change what they're doing and try to do the task for the bonus XP. So, the opportunity is still random, but it's not just something that happens to you.

  • I'm pretty much neutral on most of the faces, but some of them do look different and I don't understand enough about art to know why. I really wish we could find someone who draws portraits professionally to analyze the before and after and diagnose why the characters look different in the updated version and what could be changed to make them look more similar to the originals.

This isn't a demand to change them more -- I'm willing to accept them as they are. I just think it would be interesting to understand what about them looks so different.

I don't understand why people are saying "if you needed this to play Killer you suck" or whatever, it's completely not what the problem is about.

THE PROBLEM, is that as Killer you are playing with the feedback GIVEN to you from the game, so if I am IN REACH for a hit and I LAND that hit successfully, and the game even gives me the feedback that I was in range, successful, survivor screams, etc etc.. then WHAT else could I have done to make sure that the game doesn't now REJECT my hit??

Like, I'm literally just playing the game normally, on my screen I am landing the hits, and they are getting rejected, constantly, now LUNGES as well not just Pallet hits... what am I supposed to do? How is this fair ?

I have been playing DBD for 4 years and as you wrote in your message about losing interest, after playing 2 days of Killer since the update I finally think I may have lost interest in playing DBD for good... at least on the Killer side, I might still play SWF... but Killer feels HORRIBLE to play now... it is exactly as the OP said, you are literally being "robbed" hits.

It doesn't matter if the server says otherwise, YOU as a player see that you are landing the hit, and THEN afterwards it gets rejected. How is that fun or fair?

It legitimately feels buggy as hell.

As I mentioned before, AT LEAST FOR SURVIVORS, before the update the Pallet would STILL Stun the Killer.. so they knew that they landed the stun successfully, which would still end up wasting some of the killers time, being stunned by the pallet and often kicking and breaking the pallet before picking the Survivor up.. the Survivors got something out of it at least - it WAS more fair..

Now it's literally just completely Unfair for Killers and Survivor Sided pretty much 100% of the time, maybe I don't have good ping when I play despite paying for the fastest internet speeds that COX has to offer in downtown san diego, because I play at around 100-120ms ping on average usually, but so far Survivor has been favored 100% of the time since this update they just seem to loop like gods and abuse the changes.

I agree. From a player experience POV, it's horrible, because you literally can't do anything differently. The server is basically deciding that, if you have a slower connection than somebody else, even by a very little bit, the version of the game you're seeing isn't happening -- in reality, both versions of the game are happening, and there's no reason why the one with fastest ping should be considered authoritative.

I don't think the right solution is to go back to hitting people through pallets, but I do agree that, if you're getting hit through pallets, you at least have the opportunity to pre-throw the pallet as way to try to avoid it. If you're missing hits through pallets, you don't have a lot of options.

  • This is the mid-skill killer experience, unfortunately. You did better than most, if it only started happening around rank 10. The sweet spot is usuallly rank 15. You suddenly start getting fed to teams that eat you for breakfast because the current matchmaking is broken.

Fingers crossed that MMR gets turned on and works better.

  • I have a few skins I paid $$ for that I really like and have enjoyed playing with. If a recolour of those skins showed up in the free track of the rift, I'd be happy because a) I'd get a recolour of a skin I already like, and b) more people would get to enjoy them. I would still have benefited from all the time I got to enjoy the skin in the time between when I bought it and now.

The only situation where I can imagine being annoyed is if I spent money on skins I didn't really want that much, and then a few weeks later they showed up in the rift. But, I'd be mad at myself for wasting money on something I didn't care about more than I'd be mad at the rift.

Most people who have experienced horrible situations tend to have thicker skin.

    That's not true.

  • "If people can't handle a few words written by a stranger on the internet they will never see again how will they ever grow a spine to deal with the harsh reality of the real world?"

My sweet summer child, the people who want you to stop calling them the f-word or the n-word have experienced more harsh realities than you can even imagine.

  • In the past when I've thought about what would make a cool perk or ability, I've thought about one where there's a random chance that getting in a locker can teleport you to a different one (along with a random chance that it just spits you back out, or behaves as normal). I like the idea of doing something else with lockers, but I think that, if the lockers always sent you somewhere random, survivors would have too much mobility.

  • I'm neutral about most of them. I feel like their eyes look smaller, now, and some of them have lost a kind of cuteness that they used to have in their baked-on expressions. But I also tend to like more stylized characters.

    Where's the- where's the hypocrisy??

So you don't see the hypocrisy in demanding your opinion be heard and your dislike of something compensated, while in the same breath dismissing anyone who disagrees with you? Lmfao

It's like buying a PS4 controller and receiving an xbox controller if you also have an xbox.

No, it's like buying a PS4 controller and receiving a PS4 controller. After a while this PS4 controller is upgraded to a newer model, which functions but you don't like the change, however the previous models aren't sold anymore. Is it amazing? No. Is it the end of the world and you should demand compensation from Sony? Also no.

I also don't see why people being angry over her change is such a taboo thing to you.

I'm not angry over you disliking her change. I'm "angry" over you asking for a refund and then demanding compensation over your opinion.

You're a Kate main so I don't expect Einstein but come on, this isn't that complicated.

Even if we imagine that the OP is 100% wrong, it's strange that you're being this aggressive about it. If they're wrong, let them be wrong. It's between them and BHVR.

Y'all don't need to destroy your left analog stick to wiggle. Don't go left and right with it, spin it. The speed at which you wiggle the stick doesn't matter at all. Only do it fast enough so that the meter doesn't pause. If you do all that, that's all you can really do to wiggle, no extra work needed.

My impression just from playing the game is that circling faster makes the progress bar go faster. Do we have an info confirming it doesn't?

It's funny how it's perfectly acceptable to be stunned from several metres away.

There's no reward, nothing to make the game easier. We're not talking 200 ping here, we're talking 50-60. We're talking the kind of hits that would look perfectly legitimate on both sides if it was a livestreamed tournament that suddenly can't land because the server registered the stun before the hit by a microsecond.

I don't know how it works, but I feel like there should be some allowance so that, if the two actions happen close enough to each other, it should process as if they happened at the same time -- as opposed to strictly picking whichever one was a millisecond earlier.

Part of the reason I think that is because I don't love this philosophy where whoever has the most expensive internet should win.

  • I agree that bully squads are a problem, and that the game would be healthier if we/BHVR could find a way to do something about them. I'm not sure removing a perk slot from survivors would accomplish that, though. The main problem with bullies is not that they have too many perks -- it's that they load into the game with evil in their hearts.

In the meantime, cutting it down to three perks would pressure regular survivors (whether solo or grouped) and make them even less likely to switch up their builds. Currently, I'm pretty much locked into three perks with a fourth slot to play with for fun. If I got dropped to three perks, unfortunately, the fun one would be the first to go, because I'm not good enough to survive with a random build.

  • Everybody knows that BHVR can change the product at any time, but I think there's an implicit understanding with these kinds of agreements that there needs to be a strong justification for the change. Wanting to update the characters to work with a new facial rig is a strong justification for most of the stuff that changed. But they've also gone beyond that and said, "I don't like the way we modeled the hair on this cosmetic, so, let's redo that while we have the file open," which, even though I think it improved the look in a lot of cases, is a much weaker justification.

So, what we've learned from this -- regardless of how the final product looks -- is that they'll change the cosmetics without a strong justification, which makes it feel more precarious to buy them.

  • @goofydexter said:

Exactly. Why would they mention that "Bot matches are already available in the live version of the game", and not be talking about actual offline bot matches to practice any killer on? It has to be what they meant and yeah, for it not to be on this update is kinda misleading on their part.

    Source: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/262994/developer-update-july-2021

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/LHNSEPFKV65N/dbd-png.png

Now that we see that the bot matches haven't arrived, I can re-read that paragraph and see how someone could have written it as an awkward, poorly-contextualized way of saying, "Related to the upcoming changes we're talking about, we're also really happy to tell you that, as of our previous update, new players can now play a bot match to practice what they learned in the tutorial before loading into a real game."

    It's still a bummer, though.

  • FWIW, I don't like some of the updates, and I don't really care that much, but I can understand how other people would be annoyed.

It's true that you would lose if you tried to sue them to get your $5 back, but I don't think that means you can't ask, or that you don't have a right to find it vexing that you paid for something that the game essentially took away from you by replacing it with a different thing you don't want.

A really, really good customer relations team would have anticipated that a certain number of people were going to be annoyed by this, and proactively found a way to frame it as a positive for them -- maybe by giving out free shards so people can get a new cosmetic they're excited about; maybe something else. But BHVR takes more of a "batten down the hatches" approach to these things.

We are talking about default hair. She has hair braids going down both sides

It's always had three. It's hard to notice the third one at first, and it tucks into the back of some cosmetics, but her signature thing is having two braids down the sides and one silly-looking one and the crown of her head.

  • They also buffed her green hair.

  • Samesies. I'm on an x-box controller and I had to switch the key bindings so actions and interactions are different keys -- while there's literally nothing in the game that tells you what actions and interactions are defined as. But literally all of my key bindings are different because I hated the default setup.

For situations where you still get the wrong prompt, such as self-care, the thing that works best for me is to run at the thing I'm trying to interact with -- so just, like, press up against it and keep pushing the joystick forward -- and then hit the button while running. Works to grab things out of chests -- used to work for unhooks. Super annoying, but it suppresses self-care from taking over.

Yeah no one understands this either. The bot match with Trapper and Dwight was already there with the chapter 20 release. The developer update talked about something completely different for the mid chapter update. So did this get delayed, or were they just talking about what was already there to begin with?

I'm also wondering about this. The impression I got was that we were going to have bot matches where we could practice with other characters, which sounded pretty cool.

  • I'm gonna reserve judgement until the actual rift opens up, but, yeah, the image doesn't fill me with hope.

  • David is probably the worst update for me. I paid actual money for a head I liked, because the hair looked somewhat realistic, and it's now been updated to look a lot different.

I get it. They re-did a bunch of the cosmetics that had wispier-looking hair, and most of them look better with the update, IMO, so there's no reason they shouldn't have done this one as well. It's just that I preferred the way it looked before.

  • I agree -- I think that skin is a really good example of why they need to have a way of distributing linked body sets with separate heads. Another good example would be the RE cosmetics where they had the default heads but were sold as linked outfits.

  • @Dustin said:

Survivors who have crows should have their collisions removed and it would remove this problem and make it less frustrating for a player to decide on whether to wait until EGC ends the game or for them to DC. I've suggested this for years and I've yet to see a single reason why it shouldn't be a thing. "Just report them after game" isn't a solution when the damage is already done.

Zero scenarios in a normal game where sitting in a spot for a full minute and suddenly removing collisions will help against anyone except griefers.

If you lose collision, that means the killer can't hit you, doesn't it? If so, I can see problems with that, since it would mean that people can randomly go AFK without any danger to themselves.

  • "Even when people win they're just terrible sports" pretty much describes the atmosphere. I have literally opened the chat to type, "That was really fun, thanks for a great game!" only to find that someone is already in there spamming all-caps insults at me almost like they will spontaneously combust if they don't insult everyone they play with.

  • Even if you had body blocked them, it wouldn't be okay for them to use homophobic slurs. Aside from that... I honestly don't understand why people get mad in these situations. Nobody knew NOED was going to go off -- it's just one of those things that can happen at the last minute. You got lucky, he got unlucky -- it might feel frustrating from his POV, but it's not anybody's fault.

  • None of the above. I agree that it's not very sportsmanlike, but I don't know how they'd design a preventative measure, because the game can't judge intention the same way a person can.

Husks or bots are a possible solution, but you can also argue that that's unfair because it lets the killer farm stacks off an opponent who isn't really there.

I don't know what to do.

  • All I know about Hellraiser is that people had to solve a puzzle box or something. I would like a puzzle box to solve.

  • Honestly, Dead Hard doesn't bother me as much as 360s. At least it has a cooldown.

  • I get excited at the start, because I like to get cosmetics. About half way through the grind, though, I'm like, "Oh, yeah. I remember how brutal it is now," and it becomes a thing where I have to do my videogame chores whether or not I want to.

I have huge FOMO about it, because I missed the first few rifts, which were really good.

  • Yes, and also I can tell you from experience that, if you're already losing at EGC, camping might not even work. You're literally scrambling for a kill at that point.

  • I'm familiar with The Gamer -- and I like some of their list articles -- but it's not journalism and it's not pretending to be. It's random people getting a token payment to submit content to their site.

IMO, it's okay for some random person to be wrong about something on the internet. It doesn't really matter.

  • One thing the Steam achievements have taught me is that a lot of people who buy a game don't play it, or play for a few hours and quit. On the one hand, that's kind of a bummer but, on the other hand... I definitely have games in my library that I got on sale and didn't play.

  • Interesting answers on the currency conversion question -- thanks.

  • It does kind of raise the question of why auric cells are so much more expensive in some regions compared to others.

  • One time, I kicked a breakable wall and got stuck on it for the rest of the match.

Another time, I got stuck on the corner of that one hill for the whole match and then the killer found me and I died on first hook.

    Good times.

  • I'm okay with 2-3 safe pallets on the map, but there can definitely be too many. Games are fun when the players have options -- getting forced to kick a pallet because the tile's designed so that you won't have any choice is not fun, IMO.

  • I agree -- for solos, long blindness effects make things harder; for SWF it basically doesn't matter. I've never understood the point of short blindness effects from killer perks, though. Even if you're using them on solos, what do you think will happen? They saw where they were trying to go before the blindness took effect -- accidentally triggering blindness half way there won't do anything.

  • If the question is, "Can you win without playing so aggressively that you ruin the match for everyone else?" the answer is yes, when you have a skill advantage on the other team, maybe, when you're evenly matched, and no, when the other team has a skill advantage over you.

In a perfect future where matchmaking works and people get even matches, I think you'll still see people play super aggressively, because they want the extra edge from that. I'm happy with a 50/50 shot to win a relaxed game, but not everyone is.

  • @Viciusaurus said:

I just play him as a basic M1 killer because I suck with his power? Do I get low kill rates? Yes, but I try to make the most of it and enjoy the money I spent on him

Same. I bought him speculating that they would make him move at normal speed or something after launch, and then that didn't happen, and I was like, "Oh, I'm a tortoise throwing knives at the wall... okay." That's on me, but I did waste money, so I try to hit people with the bat at least.

  • I just came here to appreciate the phrase "BHVR being BHRV once again."

  • I actually didn't know until I read these forums that you could do the Overcharge skill check after letting go, so I always thought that it already worked this way.

  • This is a matchmaking issue IMO. People develop map and situational awareness the longer the play the game, so, if you get a mismatch where one person has A LOT more hours (or is just naturally a lot faster at understanding geography and gaming tactics), then you end up with frustrating stand-offs where one person understands right away that the situation is safe for them (because they have a god pallet and a window, etc, etc) and the other person, who doesn't understand that right away, is like, "Why are you acting like I'm not even here???"

If less experienced players were mostly matching with other less experienced players, it would be less frustrating.

  • I don't understand why people think it's random (or that it's supposed to be).

What's the difference between me using my cakes now or me using my cakes next month?

Other players are still going to receive a 105% boost whenever I play them, it's not like they are going to give less bloodpoint once the event ends..

The most convincing argument I've heard is that, if you use them now, you can get more cakes with the extra BP, and therefore increase the extra BP exponentially by stockpiling cakes. Otherwise, you're completely right. It doesn't matter if you get a 100% boost five times or a 500% boost one time -- it would be the same.
