  • I've had that happen when I'm chasing someone before, and I was also confused about whether it was lag or hacks. Still don't know.

  • I've seen both sides be toxic, but my personal experience is that people who play survivor are more aggressive toward me.

  • I think the definition of frustration is doing something, getting a different result than you expected, and not understanding why. So, for me, it's the little things, like cancelled grabs and swings that suddenly redirect toward the wall, or trying to do an action that gets overridden by self-care, etc.

I think the reason it makes me so mad is because, in my brain, there's a brief moment where it's like, "Oh, good, I did the right thing; that was close, but I hit the button in time," and then the result is just like, "You sure did hit the button; the button did nothing for you."

  • I don't get it, either, but for a different reason -- if everybody drops one color in the ranking system, then we should be matching with the exact same people again, shouldn't we? Like, if all the reds were matching with each other and they become purple, and the people who were purple all become green, how does that change anything?

  • It feels socially awkward to kill someone who's trying to be nice, and it can also feel like mockery, depending who's doing it and how they played up until that point. It's funny, because it feels totally fine to take the hatch or a free escape (at least to me). But there's something about the way the game is designed that makes it feel weird when it's the other way around.

  • I don't like keys but, TBH, it doesn't make sense to me that someone would lose the ability to open a lock because they're lying down. I think you should be able to use keys when you're downed, but I also think there should be other changes to keys to make them less powerful.

  • Now that it doesn't shield you while you're doing objectives, I think you should get to use it after both hooks. Otherwise, it's okay.

  • I agree that worst-case scenario is that he spams all his traps in one place, like the basement. Even if he could reload from lockers instead of having all of his traps right away, there are tons of lockers in key areas like that, so he could just walk back and forth to the locker and spam all of his traps in one place.

Personally, I lean toward a solution where the entity just gives him traps on a certain schedule (every x number of seconds), and he can hold a max of y number at the same time and have a max number of z total traps on the map. I don't think it's fair that he has to trudge all around the map to pick them up at the start, but it also wouldn't be fair if he could hold them all at once.

  • TBH, I played killer exclusively for the first year I had the game and I eventually got to a point where I decided to quit DBD completely because it was so stressful. A few months later, my anxiety about playing survivor cleared up and I came back and became a both-sider, but I still have to deal with the killer side in controlled doses, because it can become un-fun very quickly.

My advice is not to force yourself to grind killer constantly if it's stressing you out. Maybe start your play session on killer, and then finish on a high note on survivor, since that's what you've enjoyed in the past.

  • Yes, it seems to mean get the survivors to step in the same trap twice without moving the trap. I used the iri stone to make extra sure I didn't disturb the trap, and that worked on the 3rd game I tried.

  • I just got level 70 today, and I had to play way more than I wanted to to get there. The grind was better this time, but still too steep, IMO.

  • I can't choose. I think David's look is pretty variable depending which cosmetic you're using for him. So, some of the Original Recipe David heads look good to me and not others. I imagine some of the new ones will look good to me too, but not others.

  • Honestly, my main thing is trying to do my challenge (rift or daily). If I can do then, then I'm happy no matter what else happens. During an event, I'm also happy if I can do the event activity (which, right now, is grabbing a crown).

  • I would like the chapters to be more polished when they launch. There's more than one way to make that happen, though. Without working there and knowing what the process is, it's hard to say whether extending the schedule is the best way.

  • I really, really wish I was better at art so that I could analyze why she looks so different in the rework. It's kind of like the Sonic the Hedgehog thing -- I understood it didn't look good, but I couldn't explain why. In the rework she looks older and angrier, but I don't know the reason.

  • I would assume that the toxic people would also like to play with each other, because they always say they aren't doing it to ruin someone's experience or be a troll -- they're doing it because they think it's a fun way to play. So, five toxic players in a match together should be maximum fun.

  • The neck is messed up, but other than that, this looks pretty good. I'm pleasantly surprised.

  • My instinct is that killers probably play fewer matches per hour because they always have to stay for the whole thing, so they should be getting more BP so that it works out to the same average amount of BP/hour played.

  • I always regretted that I missed out on the rift with the Feng Min community skin, so I finally got the pink jacket.

  • It was a mistake for the twitter person to say that.

Notice that we didn't get the first reward on the day we (allegedly) reached 500K -- it happened on a predetermined day, after we'd (allegedly) already passed the goal by 4x. So, the rules of the "challenge" are that you have to hit a set number of crowns within a specific time window, but you're not told what the window is, and, if you go over the goal, that doesn't help you.

If they're going to release the rewards on a schedule, which I suspect they are, the thing to do is just say, "OMG, hooray, you met your goal!" and not give a specific number.

I think the point of that post was to brag about how engaged people are with the event, but it just drew attention to the fact that this challenge doesn't make sense.

  • I had a survivor game against Pig on Midwich. I messed up and waited too long to start looking for Jigsaw boxes. Realizing I only had seconds left to live, I thought, "What's a funny place to die?" and ran to the sacrificial circle in the courtyard. Then I spectated to see if anyone noticed my body.

All in all, it was a good match where everyone got lots of points and the Pig ultimately got a 4K. I opened the chat to try to LOL with people, but one of my teammates was already in there telling the killer what a garbage player they were, despite the fact that a) the killer won, b) the killer was on crossplay and couldn't read the chat, and c) I died in the circle -- does nobody care?

    Happy anniversary to us.

  • I don't like it very much, personally.

My first impression of DBD back when I got it was that it was kind of like Disney Infinity for horror -- you could buy the Halloween playset, and the Nightmare on Elm Street playset, and get to run around as your favourite characters without really having a story or anything. And I think this is the Resident Evil playset, in that way -- it's about getting to play with the police station, and getting to play with the characters, and not a lot else.

I, personally, don't care about Resident Evil, so my reaction is more like, "I don't know these people, and I don't want to run through their maze," but I bet there are some people who do.

  • I run it mostly if I'm doing a dedicated healer build, but I like the added benefit of knowing where the chase is happening and being able to monitor it.

  • I mean, if you zoom up super close to any of them they look weird. I don't think you're really meant to get that close.

  • If a specific player is being aggressive toward you, I think it's fine to respond with a proportional amount of aggression, if that's what you feel like you want to do. If you don't feel like that's what you want to do, and the solution you'd actually like is a community where we're not toxic to each other and we can play a game together in peace, without anyone getting bullied... I want that, too, but I'm not sure it's going to happen.

  • I think using a key after all the gens are done is probably the least annoying way to use a key. Just don't gather everyone on top of the hatch and stand there waiting for the killer to come look at you so you can use it.

  • If we get to EGC and someone sparkly's on death hook, I generally just let them go because I feel too bad. I play both sides, and I know how frustrating it is if you actually want the crown for one of your characters and keep either not finding one or getting killed.

  • Dead Hard doesn't bother me most of the time. The situations where it does are mostly situations where the person's using it to be rude (e.g., pretending to let someone have a free hit at the exit gate and then using Dead Hard at the last second), or where the matchmaking is bad and it's already so hard to catch the survivor that having them Dead Hard is overkill.

Maybe BHVR should think of better challenges/dailies for survivors that dont make them a detriment... like opening for 6 boxes

Or they could do what a lot of other battle pass / season pass systems do a let us make progress on several different challenges simultaneously instead of having to commit to one. Only being able to make progress on the sabo challenge strongly motivates people to focus on sabo exclusively, because doing other actions doesn't help them, and there's an opportunity cost to dragging the sabo challenge out too long (every match you run the sabo challenge is a match you can't make progress on another challenge).

  • I agree that it's rude to be super sweaty when everyone played cake. Try to win, but let the other people score some points before they lose.

  • The diagrams are really bad. When you design a visual aid, it's supposed to help clarify the information in the text and make it easier to understand, but you literally can't interpret these diagrams unless you already understand what was in the text. And, even then, it's kind of a puzzle where you have to be like, "Okay, I guess jumping over a pallet means you throw one, and sacrifice mask means you get stunned?"

  • On killer side, I kept trying to kick gens that had zero progress because I wanted to apply Overcharge to them (Doc was one of my first killers). On survivor side, I really had trouble understanding where people were in the environment, so, when the status updates told me I "escaped" chase, I would stop running and try to hide -- at which point the killer would catch up with me immediately.

  • Cross over with DnD and let me be a cat person.

  • My favourite is the person who had a dream about Danny DeVito, because the first line of her quote is just, "I am regularly bullied by the Community" and that resonated with me.

I do kind of wonder what the instructions were for including a personal quote, because people did so many different things, but they're allowed to be proud of their game. A lot of them did good work on it and aren't responsible for most of the decisions we don't like.

  • Grabs have been the bane of my existence since dedicated servers. 99% of the time when they fail, all I wanted to do in the first place was swing my weapon, so I'm very happy and excited about the temporary fix that turns failed grabs into a hit.

Ah yes, pessimistic speculation. Why on earth would they lie about something this small?

Because it would be an embarrassing PR disaster if we failed to hit the targets. If I were running a challenge like this, I would make 100% sure the rewards were being given out. The easiest way to do that is to keep the count secret and release them at predetermined times, regardless.

  • I don't think it should literally be a fourth charm slot, because then you open up a bunch of problems with people equipping other things besides crowns. But they could create something LIKE a charm slot that only holds crowns.

  • I don't think it's terrible. I like getting extra shards. I like having an extra task to do, even if it's trying to find a crown without getting tunneled to death. I don't think it's the best event ever, and I don't see this as an event that they went all-out on after conserving resources and scaling back other events, but it's fine.

  • LOL. I was about to load into a survivor game with an escape cake equipped because I just had a million of them on that survivor and hadn't thought about it. At the last minute, I realized what a faux pas that would be on the first day of the event, so I panicked and rushed the blood web to get an event cake instead.

At this point, I don't even feel like bloodpoints are that useful to me -- it's just nice that we're farming them together.

  • On the first day of anything in this game, people play really aggressively. It'll calm down in a couple of days, once the worst people all have their crowns.

  • This is interesting. I reported someone I thought was a speed hacker a few days ago (they were on crossplay, so I couldn't ask them questions). They were also running Lithe -- I wonder if it was the same thing.

  • Never Stop Slashing is a really nice skin. It's probably my favourite for Legion. I 100% believe the devs when they say they weren't able to animate the mask like in the concept, and I think it's still great. It's weird that people keep complaining about a good skin that we got at no extra charge.

  • Yeah, I find the escape requirement kind of intense, but I also don't run the default heads on most of my characters, and it looks like, if you want to wear the crown, you have to have the default head as well, so.

FWIW, I played four or five solo survivor matches and in every single one, I either found a crown and got killed, or didn't find one and escaped. I think maybe the crowns are cursed.

  • I'll give it a chance, but my first impression playing it is that it's huge and confusing. I was killer in my last match, and I didn't even find my basement until EGC -- it was on a part of the map that we had literally never gone to, and I only got there by getting lost.

  • There's a lesson in here about burying the actual complaint in the last paragraph of your post, but the last paragraph does say the complaint is the teaming.

  • If I have to choose, favourites would be more useful to me, because I don't remember the name of anything. So, I could not only save my actual favourites, but favourite things I want to find a way to use so I don't forget.

  • The grind is really bad. I don't mind switching up the play styles, though. I don't think it was amazingly healthy for the game when every chase involved running to the same pallet, and circling it the prescribed number of times, and then running to the next one over and over again. I can understand why they'd add killers who break that routine.

See, that concept is a fundamental concern to my question. So I’m supposed to select a killer like Freddy and then have empathy and take it easy on the survivors so they don’t feel scared by one of the most terrifying horror characters of all time? Not trying to be salty, just don’t understand how a killer is suppose to be empathetic… Never seen Jason, Freddy, Michael, Leatherface be empathetic to characters.

Do survivors express empathy to the killer if they get all gens without being hooked, then sacrifice themselves and let the killer get them instead of escaping to make the killer feel good about their game experience?

Honestly, not trying to be salty, just trying to understand.

You aren't a killer. You're a normal person playing a video game with other normal people. The expectation is not that Freddy has empathy -- it's that YOU do. Offline, if you acted like everyone who agreed to play a game with you was an object for you to score points off, without any regard for whether they enjoyed playing with you, you wouldn't get invited to very many game nights. Online, unfortunately, it's harder for people to exclude you based on poor behaviour, but that doesn't mean the social expectations have disappeared.

As to why that expectation only applies to people playing killer -- it doesn't. It applies to everyone. People think your friends are rude.

  • I actually noticed this in a couple of games yesterday, so maybe it got worse? I assumed it was what people are saying -- that I autotargeted the person on hook somehow, even though it looked like I shouldn't be.

  • Honestly, I understand why console players are upset. You paid a lot of money for this game, and then you got involuntary updates that broke it, and there seems to be no plan to help you. :(
