Where is the best place to read about updates besides Twitter.. Since I left Twitter I find it difficult to find DBD news all in one place.
The Information Center you can find at the top bar of the forums has most of the relevant info. Patch notes, dev updates, even the game rules.
You'll find the dev update under Game Info. The patch notes themselves will appear in, well, the patch notes section.

You seem very sure of that. Know something we don’t?

Do you know what is in the standard welcome gift?
I posted a screencap in the OP which lists all rewards. You can also find it in the Q&A.

I believe you’d still be eligible for the standard welcome gift, like all of us. You will still need to claim it through the mobile app, though. You’ll also need a BHVR account.

Firstly, wdym with level 5?
Secondly, if players have a grievance with the game, there's always something to take away from it.They cannot be wrong per se. It's inherently subjective. That said, there has to be a reason they feel that way. That might not even be the reason they state, they're just as likely to not even realise what it is that they don't like.
I really don't think you can just 'invalidate' someone's opinion just because they're less skilled at the game. That is entitlement.

I mean, technically Trapper doesn’t have his own theme either. But I guess we’re just kinda going with the idea that he gets the 6 default tracks as ‘his’ thene.

Is it possible to get stuff illegitimately on console? I assumed it was just a PC thing. Weird situation
No idea. Wouldn’t be too surprised if they found a way, but given everything else here a bug might be more likely.
Hope it works out.

my son is not very smart. He is a special ed kid. We also have it to where he can't chat or send messages to anyone on his PS5. He mainly plays solo or just with me when he plays. Last night he didn't have any of these cosmetics and this morning when he logged in he did.
Is there any chance someone else has access to his account? It sounds like someone did some save-editing, and assuming your son didn’t so himself, someone somehow did it for him, possibly without his knowledge.
Might want to contact support.
-
While I haven't heard of a glitch like this, I'm also not entirely willing to rule it out.
I will say that it's also equally as likely he got all that stuff illegitimately. Might want to have a chat with him.
-
In the simple sense that you should keep trying using the standards you set for yourself. This is a mental challenge, more than anything.
It's easy to get discouraged by the things the game (and its players) can throw at you. However, if you keep at it, you'll inevitably get better at the killers you're bad with. You can also always consult a few guides if you're really struggling with specific killers.
So, keep at it. You'll get 'em eventually. It might take a while, but that'll make the ultimate victory all the more satisfying.
-
Horror can only really function when there's unknowns in play.
DbD is, for the most part, figured out. The horror tends to fade very quickly once you know that every killer takes precisely 2.7 seconds to break a slab of wood.
-
Persistence above all else, I'd say.
-
In madness level 3, you cannot do held actions, like healing or repairing gens. That’s intended.
If it’s happening outside of level 3, that’s either a bug, or a cheater.
-
The community can’t even agree on what defines tunnelling, let alone the game.
-
Still would like to see Hellshire Penitentiary someday, as well as an expansion to Lèry’s.
The new addition to Ormond tells me it’s possible?
-
I mean, have licenses historically always come out better?
Like, original characters give much more liberty with just about everything. BHVR's not beholden to the fantasy of an IP, can make large scale changes at any point, can write tome stories for them, etc..
-
Anyway
1 is Pinhead/Cenobite
2 is Dracula I think?
3 can only be Clown

I am beyond myself with gratitude. 💐💐💐
Sincerely, I love horror. I love this game. And I love this community. I’ve always found a home in the horror genre- I’m sure many of us can relate. For one reason or another we are all here enjoying this game together.

I’m a huge fan of being the change you want to see. The above people have demonstrated a willingness to be that change while remaining their authentic selves. I see Dbd reflected in every single person listed and on this forum. These people will give you the best that they have to offer. Why not match that passion and be the change you want the dbd community to become? Why not? It can happen. They can help you get there.
I wanted to thank @For_The_People for being the first person from the forums that I’ve ever played Dbd with. He is a very sweet person who will give you his time of day in earnest if you need him to. He’s one of the prime examples of politeness in this community. Thank you for being a positive force in the community. 😊😊😊
Lastly I need to thank @solarjin1 . What can I say? When you meet a friend that gets you, you both just know it. Her courage to be funny and humorous is so infectious. She told me that the small pallet in rpd was the most op pallet. I was so naive of game knowledge that I believed her! LMAO! After that I realized that it was anything goes when it came to humor with her. I’m at my best when I can be silly. Solarjin1 is that friend who brings out the best in me. Thank you Solarjin1 for all the laughs and for the laughs to come 😂 I’m going to be collecting🤣🤣🤣
None of this would be possible if we didn’t have a phenomenal community team here to support us discussing this twisted hobby we all have. Thank you again to everyone at Bhvr for putting your hearts and souls (ha!) into everything that is Dbd.
They say you attract more flies with honey than with vinegar…
Let’s just use blood instead 🩸😈🩸
Happy Holidays everyone, I hope everyone stays safe and has a wonderful New Years 😊🎉
Thank you for the kind words!

In this particular scenario, I'm afraid it's not a bannable offense, as the game can and will end within a given timeframe. That, of course, does not mean it isn't a scummy thing to do.
As for solutions, I've already mentioned this in other threads, but survivors losing collission when they have AFK crows seems like it would solve so many instances of actually problematic bodyblocking…

Patience, above all else. If you go at it expecting to find something straight away, you’ll only find the ones willing to show themselves. Keep the time of day in mind, too. There’s a reason the saying about the worm is what it is, though don’t count out late evenings either. You’ll essentially want to go when there’s as few disturbances as possible.
You’ll also have to develop a sense of where you can find what, and what to listen out for. That requires practice, though a simple bit of research will help you understand what’s around you. Eventually, you’ll be able to guesstimate the rough locales of a species just by looking at a picture of them.
It’s more or less the same with sounds. Over time, you’ll learn to associate specific sounds with specific species, and even learn to recognise different calls within the same species. To help you identify sounds, you can install an app on your smartphone.Oh you didn’t mean birdspotting. Uh-
-
Neat. Thanks for sharing!

I'm not sure why they even have rarities to begin with.
Like, sure, it makes sense to distinguish event rewards from rift rewards and such, but other than that? It's not like we're paying for them.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was somewhat obsessed with birds, and some believe they served as inspiration (or even as composers) for some of Mozart's pieces.
He kept a pet starling for about 3 years. The story goes that in the pet shop, the bird was singing a part of a composition of his that he had finished just a month prior, with the first public performance only happening a month after this encounter. Although a few notes were off (like, just a few), it was singing a theme of Piano Concerto in G Major K.453. Sound implausible? Well, starlings are masters at mimicry, after all. And not just that, they're also very good at improvising. It's entirely possible the bird picked up the tune from Mozart humming or whistling to himself, and 'finished' the tune on its own. Obviously I don't have a recording of what Mozart's bird sounded like, but just to prove how remarkable starlings are, take a listen to this fine fellow:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vC6kf8442yI&ab_channel=SarahTidwellWhen the starling passed away, Mozart had a full-fledged funeral for the bird. He was well and truly shattered by its death, even writing poems for it. There’s one piece in particular that Mozart wrote in this time, Ein musikalisher Spaß (‘A Musical Joke’), K.522. There's rather compelling evidence that this uncharacteristic and decidedly chaotic piece was heavily inspired by the starling's musings.

also shoutout to the gent who gave a presentation on birds in classical music for the volunteers of the charity bookshop I work at. (there's a whole other story there that's entirely unrelated to birds, but that's for another time.))
-
Hm. Good catch. Wonder what's up there.
-
That’s not what the killswitch is for.
-
Me. They will nerf me by progressively removing the birds from the game.
-
I’m not sure what they could even do without completely reworking it.
Like, extending the exposed effect would at some point make it a net negative perk. And the only other option is removing the main functionality of the perk.
It’d be like way back when, when NOED didn’t have its exposed effect until you got it to tier 3.
-
Idk if ‘overrated’ is the right term. People who like him, like him and people who don’t, don’t.
Not sure why it should be anything more than that. Every killer has their problems/weaknesses.
-
They’re bound to what the license holder permits them.
-
I mean, “zero counterplay” is also true the other way round without the Endurance effect.
If the killer is well-positioned and the hook wasn’t right next to the gate, that survivor is dead.

It's not unusual at all. It's a very typical part of the game now. There is no threshold because I have over 2,000 hours and I literally get matched with and against brand new players on a daily basis (I can see their hours for Steam PC players), and it's not due to lobby backfills. The matchmaking system is beyond broken and it's the single biggest issue in the game right now IMO. I've heard nothing from the devs acknowledging that it's a problem or any plans to improve it. Very disappointing.
Now I won’t say that the MMR system isn’t deeply flawed, but I never encountered a lobby like this. There are occassionally players in my matches who are clearly out of their depth, but a full lobby of them?
I’m more inclined to go with JPLongstreet’s theory, assuming OP is in fact not brand new to the killer role as well.
-
This seems highly unusual.
I believe there’s an MMR threshold for new players, preventing new installs from being matched with older players. Once you’ve gone past it, you shouldn’t be able to get back in.
Either that broke, or your ghostface is somehow below that threshold.

I mean, Face the Darkness becomes much stronger, because the cleanse time is so long.

It doesn’t change the max amount of hooks, no.
In theory it could cause for a single survivor to not die until their 6th hook, though. But that requires quite a lot of coordination.

We've had Marge Simpson for quite a while now

Yeah, I noticed it too.

The semantic shift you were talking about, friend.
I must preface that 'semantic shift' is a rather broad term, encompassing multiple possible kinds of 'shifts' or movements, if you will. DbD as a whole has many terms that have shifted in one way or another, though most happened quite quickly as perks were added, metas shifted, etc..
Take the Memento Mori offerings. The phrase itself is fairly well-known in pop culture, though it has little to do with the actual act of killing someone. In the English-speaking part of the DbD community, the term 'mori' was adopted as the finisher kill we call it now. The Memento part was dropped entirely in common parlance, presumably out of convenience.
Initially, a 'mori' referred to the offerings alone. Over time, it came to refer to not just the offerings, but the action itself too. "I'm getting mori'd". In gameplay terms, this meant you were eliminated from the game prematurely. This was adopted at a larger scale when different methods of 'mori'ing' were added. Devour Hope, and Myers' Tombstone add-ons initially, then Pyramid Head's and later Sadako's powers as well. I believe Pig's RBT kill was also referred to as a mori for a while, but that didn't stick.
In-game, the action was always referred to as simply 'kill', or 'kill by your own hands' in dailies and tomes. The term 'Mori' wasn't found anywhere, except in the offerings.
Until the big store overhaul. There's this button now, called 'View Mori'. The term now officially refers to not just the action, but the animation itself as well. Individual killers can have multiple mori's now.
Where way back when, 'Trapper has two mori's' could only mean that your Trapper has two Memento Mori offerings in his inventory. Now it refers to the fact that Trapper has two potential mori animations; his regular one and Naughty Bear's.
Even more interestingly, though I can't exactly observe it properly myself, is that in Asian regions, it isn't called 'mori'ing'. At first glance, that makes sense: maybe the offerings were localised, so the term isn't going to naturally occur without influence from English.
What I find fascinating, then, is that their equivalent of the term is 'I'm being memento'd'. Memento'd. Remembered.

I always enjoy seeing your bird posts randomly included in threads where people are complaining about dumb game stuff. It's like finding an oasis after spending hours hiking through a desert that smells like farts.
Keep up the good work.
In trying to figure out what actually differentiated a bird and a fowl, I discovered I was actually sort of wrong here. More precisely, I misremembered speculation as fact. Either way, a correction is in order. My example of a term being generalised still applies, tho.
Basically, in Old/Middle English (up to 15th century), a 'bird' was not a small bird per se, but a young bird. So, a chick or fledgling. This still makes 'blackbird' as a name of a species highly ususual, though, since it still should've been described as a fowl.
Regarding blackbirds specifically, then, there's a theory from the Oxford English Dictionary that the name came in roughly a full century later (late 15th century. Essentially, we've left Middle English and are now well into Middle English). Apparently, in this period, the 'bird' in 'blackbird', referred to what we now call songbirds specifically. Blackbirds, being part of the thrush family, are quite remarkable singers, especially in breeding season.
However, that same theory would then imply that corvids (which is to say, crows, ravens, rooks and jackdaws specifically), while most certainly black, were not considered songbirds back then.
This conflicts with our modern classification of songbirds (passeriformes), which does contain all corvids.
Either way, it still indicates that over the centuries, the term 'bird' was generalised into referring to all avian critters. So, like, my original point stands, as does my example, just not the way I thought it did.
