If you’re referring to the stereotypical tricorne hat, pirates actually very rarely worse those.

But it's still weird, 'cause this system implies that both the killer and survivors can 'win', to a degree. How can a game with fundamentally opposed sides see both parties as a partial winner? So the thread has gotten me thinking about this a bit.
Have you ever seen one person play multiple others in chess at the same time? Like one person playing 4 chess games simultaneously. A DbD trial is kind of like that, 4 individual games happening at once.
In the chess example, how does the person playing others rate their performance if they win 2 games and lose 2 games? And if you are on the other side, how do you rate your performance if you win your game, but the other 3 lose? You won, yes, but the person you were playing was severely handicapped.
Now, there are differences of course. DbD is actually designed for a 1v4, whereas the chess example above the 'one' is either considerably more skilled or just imposing a challenge on themselves. But that's how MMR works. The 'trial' isn't the game, there are four individual games, just as the chess example is 4 individual games happening at the same time and how you rate the overall performance is up to you.
Things would obviously be clearer if MMR was team based on the survivor side, but BHVR has designed the MMR to be like the chess example. But MMR is invisible, so whether we worry about it or not is totally up to the player.
I don't envy the devs here. The result of the match is typically determined by the efforts of the whole of the survivor side (the 4). So it might be 'fairer' to look at the end result when looking at MMR, opposed to simply looking at 'did you die?' Heroic sacrifices are a non-factor regarding MMR, for example, even though it may very well have allowed the other three to escape. Conversely, it'd also be brutally unfair if the rest of the survivors get screwed over by a teammate actively sabotaging the match.
But the devs also emphasise that teamwork is not obligatory. 'Survive together… or not,' or something akin to that. So then you have to look at the individual survivor's 'performance', and the only truly consistent measure of that is whether they escaped or not.
So… what do we do? What do we want, even? I don't think we, as in the community at large, are ever going to be able to agree on that.
PS.: I vaguely recall Emblems also slightly contributed towards your MMR rating. No idea if that's actually true, and I'm also way too bad with numbers to make any accurate statement regarding their influence.

The Stranger Things achievements/trophies got changed into general ones when the license was pulled, as it made them unobtainable for players that didn't own any of the characters.
Consoles tend to be a bit tricky about changing achievements that are still obtainable, so they haven't been changed back.

I had this debate the other day regarding defining a tie, and I struggled to find the correct words to articulate my point of view (I dont believe a 2man escape is a tie from the killer perspective, as you failed to hold the gate). Very eloquently put, and thank you for giving me the language I needed to express it 😁
Ngl, I'm surprised you found it eloquent. I tend to find myself very chaotic when arguing just about anything.
So thanks for saying that, actually.

I wonder if this spot is a remnant of the spot in between the two rows of non-interactable lockers.
It'll never beat that one totem spot on pre-update Disturbed Ward that was just… completely exposed. It wasn't even next to a tree, it was just sitting there completely out in the open.
-
I think it's partially a result of trying to arbitrarily define a 'tie', as well as the MMR system. To me, a 'tie' implies a stalemate. Both parties have exhausted all of their options and cannot progress the game/match, or achieved the exact same result. It's impossible for either party to win, or to lose, so it's a tie.
(forgive the train-of-thought style, i am "thinking out loud", so to speak)
With DbD, it's much trickier to define a tie, because of the opposing objectives. It's impossible for both parties to run out of options at the same time (aside from bugs), so you'd have to look at both parties achieving the same result. What would that even mean in the context of DbD? The survivors are trying to complete the gens and get out through the gates. If at least 2 survivors escape, that means they did just that. So, by all means, the killer failed their objective. Moreover, there's no obvious killer equivalent of only getting 3 gens done. Maybe you could argue it's the amount of hooks they got. But some players don't care about how many hooks they got, as long as they score kills, so that can't be our definitive answer.
In the case of a 2k, the killer completed their half of their objective, but failed the other half. But then, did the survivor fail half of their objective? I wouldn't say so, since they still got all gens done and at least one gate open. Still, it's the closest we can get to both parties achieving the same result. But then, it can hardly be called the 'same result', since it's still fundamentally opposed.
So do we then look at individual survivors? Again, in the case of a 2k, did the survivors win two times, and lose two times? I believe Patrick Harris was talking about this on a dev stream some time ago when he explained the MMR system. His answer was to not actually define a tie. They went with the killer winning/losing twice, and the 'win/loss' counting for each individual survivor. This is ultimately what the MMR system is based on, and what a good amount of players have adopted as their own metric, which had previously never been defined. But it's still weird, 'cause this system implies that both the killer and survivors can 'win', to a degree. How can a game with fundamentally opposed sides see both parties as a partial winner?
Ultimately, I think, it's determined by what you actually play the game for. If you only care for kills, you have the simplest metric possible. Do you only care for hooks? That gets much more abstract and personal. Do you only care for some good chases? I don't even know if you can define that with any kind of metric.

Bizarrely, I've seen a fair few SMs. They all got their ass handed to them barring one that got a hard-tunnel kill extremely early on.

I wouldn’t be so sure about any of the licenses, barring GF.
We can safely say that Myers’ IP holders don’t want him cooperating with another killer. I imagine the same goes for a few other killers as well. Also… why not put the characters that are already in, in a separate category?

It’s been proven time and time again that Behaviour alters the matchmaking of popular content creators (Fog whisperer's), ie giving them easier matches, it’s better for their content having easier games and makes the game look more appealing to those watching streams/youtube videos, I’m no fan of Tru all he does is complain, but his games are far more difficult then Otz, he goes against organised players that actually know what they are doing, Otz seems to go against mediocre players despite the fact he has over 10k hours and wins a lot, Tru was a Fog whisperer at one point but he no longer receives this special matchmaking privilege.
Proven where? By what? There’s anecdotal evidence at best, and we’ve all had games against people who are significantly worse than us.

It's got one of the longer power cooldowns across the entire roster, and requires rather specific timing to even grant value.

Longest was a knight holding a 3-gen in that one corner of Dead Dawg Saloon.
I was trying to get value from Weaving Spiders that game, too.
Shortest was when the dc penalties were temporarily removed. The moment they heard Spirit’s phasing, the dc bell rung. Another followed a mere two seconds later. And the third looked at me for a moment, and promptly dipped as well.
The Spirit gave me the hatch after a brief shared moment.
-
I’ve stated this before, but I find baffling how hypocritical this system is.
People swear in the tomes. There’s no slurs in those, obviously, but guano regularly appears.
-
I mean, as much as I appreciate the developer side of the argument for once… I feel like his comparison to VHS kinda falls flat.
I assume this was written around the same time that VHS shut down, so that’s why he was talking about it.Apparently this is very recent. Curious, that.I think he gives DbD some undeserved credit here. VHS failed due to mismanagement. No question about it.
For starters, the closed beta lasted far too long, which made its playerbase too good at the game. Because of that, there was no initial honeymoon phase that normally comes with a new release, where nobody knows what they’re doing and it’s exciting and fresh. Instead, new players were put off by just how unforgiving Monster was to play against experienced teens.
As a side effect of that long closed beta, it seemed to take forever for any new content to drop. For that matter, the Monsters that were there and did get released barely differed from one another, ability-wise. Only Dollmaster presented a unique playstyle.
The comment about the devs accepting feedback directly contradicts what I’ve heard, though I don’t know enough to really comment on that.
You could very much camp and tunnel?? Wasn’t there a “feast” mechanic or whatever that allowed the Monster to speed up the bleed-out bar? Similarly, I don’t see what was stopping a Monster from tunnelling a specific Teen. Sure, it gave the other teens a lot of time to make weapons, but you very much could tunnel.
Some other things that I think VHS had going against it:
Maps were entirely static. Randomising the locations of the crafting stations alone would’ve alleviated this a lot, I think. Some windows also were just too strong as instant chase escape options.
That random scream-towards-the-ceiling after a hit tried to solve an issue that was barely one to begin with, and somehow made the basic idea of the elegant ‘wipe’ so much worse.
What even was the point of starting as a fake teen?? You’re staggered for far too long for any ambush to work, so why even bother?
Allowing a player to stunlock another player is kind of a cardinal video game sin. Overwatch, to name an entirely different example, had this issue as well when Brigitte released. People loathed her.
The way Teens were killed was really convoluted. Quite simply, it took too long. In DbD terms, you’re effectively always slugging your downs. You don’t do anything with them after they’ve gone down, other than maybe that feast thing I’ve mentioned. On that note, that minigame you could do to speed up your recovery bar always felt really out of place to me.
WART’s model didn’t make sense. Too top-heavy for a bipedal creature. Nitpicky, but still.
Werewolf did nothing to riff on the basic concept of a werewolf. That could have worked if they expanded on who the human actually was, but as it stood it was just kinda bland.

They are giving multiple tomes to characters aka Blight, David, Yui, Spirit
That doesn’t take away from my point, though. It just means Jeff and Élodie need their own tomes, still.
-
I feel like it must be said that most of these characters got their tomes before the Deep Rift was a thing.
So, like, had it been a thing from the start, I’m sure they would’ve gotten something.
-
I dunno if there's that much potential for DbD-esque game crossovers. Most of them are already dead, or we got the IP already. The only one that comes to mind that we also don't already have ourselves in some form, is Identity V.
Interestingly, with how closely IDV resembles DbD (it's co-developed by BHVR, even), they could theoretically lift some characters directly. With some changes, obviously, but still.
-
The devs don't read General, if that's what you mean. Only Community Managers pop in here.
I believe the Feedback section is read by more of the development team. Whether it's used is another matter entirely. Though you also have to remember we're not the only ones playing this game. Apparently there's millions, and we all got our own opinions. You really can't expect them to 'listen' to every post made.

FF13 had it's issues, but IIRC the lawsuit hurt the devs ability to push updates to the game. Without the lawsuit in play, it's possible the devs could have improved the game.
Maybe, but I still think F13's biggest issues required a large overhaul. One that I don't think they were willing to do.
Being found early as a councillor left you practically defenseless. Early eliminations were unstoppable, and so being found first got very dull, very fast.
The Jason-player being randomly selected could have worked, but not when you're also pushing players to make meta builds for him (in the sense of metagame, not necessarily the best stuff available). You couldn't just go 'I wanna try this build out', you only got a chance at trying that build out every match.
Jason being killable turned the entire premise on its head, once players figured it out. You're supposed to be the big scary, not the one scared of being hit by too many wooden bats.
One thing I've noticed, though I've also got no idea how relevant it is, is that almost all of the games that had a fairly short run, used health bars instead of health states. Health bars immediately kill the immersion for me, since it's blatantly obvious that all I'm doing is wailing on a character model until some number hits 0. DbD is much simpler, and therefore much more elegant here by using health states. Hit = injury. Simple. VHS used this system too, and it had the best run of all the 'DbD killers'. Only TCM stands out here.

It’s also a 3D rendition of the mechanic that was used during the Hallowed Blight event. It’s sometimes regarded as the best event the game has ever had. There might be some sentimental value to it as well.

What I find interesting about all this is that they've previously stated that they were never gonna do stat trackers because it was too difficult to implement retroactively.
However, since the characters stat is career-long… I wonder when they actually did start tracking? It must have been before 2024.

I can say with some degree of confidence that the most played characters are taken from your entire DbD career, not just 2024.

I mean, there are plenty of scenarioes where slugging (which is to say, simply leaving a survivor on the ground) is the only play.
What people generally have an issue with is slugging for an extended period of time. Slugging with the express intention of bleeding out is the most egregious example, but slugging to prevent hatch can also fall under this.

Oh I feel that. Ive gone on numerous nurse streaks…
when going for stun challenges…
-
Firstly, I don't think the game intentionally throws you in matches specifically to make the challenge harder. On a logistical level, that is entirely unfeasible.
Second… What on earth is that huntress' build??
-
Why are y’all assuming that the bots are coming to the standard games, tho??
We know PTB lobbies get harder to fill the longer a PTB remains open. For reasons that I think are fairly obvious. Moreover, the playerbase on there is already but a fraction of the total playerbase.

Guessing they didn't want to include them in the dev update for fear it might get too long. From what we know, the perks weren't getting any major changes anyway.
