Before it became common, my policy was to farm, or at least go easy on the others.
But when it became more common, I got tired of farming. Like, at some point, I just want to play the game too.
I still feel bad about it, tho.

Ok, so, this is largely related to the common blackbird, or eurasian blackbird. Turdus Merula, if you want the scientific name.
Take this male:
You’ll look at this bird and think: That’s a black bird, alright. It has a strikingly not-black beak and a similarly coloured ring around the eyes, but otherwise, it’s a black bird. Good. Makes sense.
But then we look at a female blackbird:
Hm. Black isn’t how I would describe this one. So that's already roughly half of all common blackbirds… not actually black.
Now, I don’t know about you, but I’m also able to name at least 3 other birds that are also black within the same range. One of them being a species that we, as DbD players, are very familiar with. Crows.
Take this carrion crow. Other than maybe jackdaws, these are easily the most common crow across western Europe, the same range as the blackbird. There’s some iridescense going on in the wings and the back, but you don’t need me to tell you that these crows are entirely black birds. Moreso than the male blackbird, anyway.
Moreover, carrion crows aren’t sexually dimorphic, which means that males and females don’t have any easily identifiable differences in their appearance. So… what’s up there? Why did blackbirds come to be called that, when there’s other, blacker birds in the same range?
Well! The Old English meaning of ‘bird’ was actually a bit more specialised. Where ‘bird’ means any and all feathered creature now, back then, ‘bird’ only referred to birds of a smaller size.
Larger birds were called ‘fowl’. You can still see this in ‘waterfowl’ and ‘peafowl’, for example. Crows fell under ‘fowl’ as well. I’m not sure what the threshold between bird and fowl was, but I imagine it was somewhere around the wood pigeon.
So then, since our sweet little turd(us) bird was the only commonly known small black bird back then, it could get away with simply being called ‘blackbird’. Effectively just meaning ‘small black bird’.

On a linguistic level, it’s fascinating how “literally” has become something of a homonym, in that it seems to have become interchangeable with “actually”. This kind of Semantic Shift seems especially common in English. It’s to be expected, given the innumerable amount of external influences, especially now that English has more or less become the language of the internet.
I also have a somewhat related etymological fun fact about blackbirds, if anyone’s interested

I think they decided to do this so perks don't become used only because of the bonus BP. So my assumption is that if the perk is weak or has a low usage rate, they can buff it accordingly without the bonus BP skewering the stats.
But don't take my word for it though they could have their own reasoning.
I believe that was the reason they gave when they removed the BP bonus from BBQ. It was my assumption that the same reasoning extended to the rest of the bonuses.

Do you think she will get more buffs in the future?
Again, too early to say. We’re 3 hours in - these things require some time to settle.
-
Not the AI yassifying both Portia and Snug
Though I think it’s too early to answer your question. For now, I think she’s fairly middling. -
I think it was kinda inevitable, tbh.
I’m honestly more surprised that it didn’t happen sooner.
-
Guessing they wanted to be rid of the BP bonuses, firstly, and then buffed 'em slightly as they were getting updated anyway.

Of course its gonna affect you, even though in a much milder manner. while you didn't tunnel, survivors can now protect their weakest members and take one for the team, literally shouldering the burden.
If you have one god looper in the team, whom you never chase, because you can smell his skill from a mile away, that looper would normally be a pretty sad one, but now he can take the burden of anyone on death hook and still be pretty untouchable, with just minimally increased risk.
Don't worry, I am no doom and gloom cryer, but I have a feeling that many downplay or not really grasp the impact shoulder the burden will have on the game. It IS a gamechanger in the truest sense of the word, the change that Reassurance could have been, if BHVR wasn't so chicken back in the days.
We’ll see. I don’t expect it will see a lot of use in mid MMR ranges once everything has settled. For now, I welcome a perk that does something entirely new.
’Sides, the weakest looper will remain the weakest looper, even if they get another “life”.

Embrace the tunnel! Its a dark place, where most people never come backl from. Only thing you have to do to get there is to play for 3 hookstages. If you have one hookstage on another survivor before one is dead, you have to stay in the corner and think about what you have done.
or rather what you havent done…
And dont you dare not bring Nurse with 4 slowdowns…. 🔥🐽🔥
You could obviously not do that and not feel the influence of this perk at all.
I mean, I expressly do not tunnel. So, like, while I can understand the apprehension, it's not gonna affect me.

Let me explain clearly why Shoulder the Burden adds extra hook stages to the game:
- How Hook Stages Normally Work
- Every survivor has 3 hook stages:
- First Hook → Second Hook → Death Hook.
- The killer needs 12 hooks total (3 hooks per survivor) to kill all 4 survivors.
- Every survivor has 3 hook stages:
- What Shoulder the Burden Does
- When a survivor is unhooked, they can give one of their hook stages back to the person who unhooked them.
- For example, if someone is on their second hook (death hook), they can use the perk to go back to their first hook state while giving the unhooker an additional hook stage.
- How This Adds Extra Hooks
- The killer now has to hook the unhooked survivor again to get them back to their second stage.
- They also have to hook the unhooker again to reclaim the stage they gained.
- This means the killer ends up needing more than 3 hooks per survivor, increasing the total hooks required to eliminate the team.
- Maximum Impact
- If one survivor uses Shoulder the Burden, it can add 2 extra hook stages (one for the unhooked survivor, one for the unhooker).
- If two survivors use it, it can add 4 extra hook stages.
- If all four survivors use it perfectly, the killer could need up to 20 hooks instead of 12.
- Why It’s Significant
- The perk recycles hook stages, making the killer's job harder because they have to hook survivors many more times than usual to secure kills.
I think you misunderstand the perk, not me.
Say, Claudette is on 0 hooks. She gets hooked, so now she has one.
Meg, also on 0 hooks, goes in for the save, and activates Shoulder the Burden. The end result is that Claudette now has 0, and Meg now has 1. Meg is also hit with exposed and screams, but that aside. There is still only 1 hook state in play.
The perk also states that it can only be used while not on Death Hook. So it's impossible for a Dwight with 2 hook states to activate Shoulder the Burden to take another. It would mean he'd be running around with 3 hook states on him, which would be nothing short of game-breaking.
- How Hook Stages Normally Work

The reason Shoulder the Burden adds extra hook stages is that it delays sacrifices by giving survivors a chance to be hooked one more time. Here’s how it works step-by-step:
- Total: 3 stages per survivor.
- First stage: Alive, waiting for unhook.
- Second stage: Struggling.
- Third stage: Death.
- For example:This adds an extra stage for every activation of the perk. If every survivor uses the perk twice, that’s 8 extra hook stages total in the match.
- Survivor A reaches second hook. They activate Shoulder the Burden, reset their hook state, and get hooked again.
- Now, the killer must hook them four times total instead of three.
Yes but the hook state still goes to another survivor regardless. That's still a grand total of 12 hook states between all survivors.
Saying "adds 8 hook states" would imply there's 20. That's not what's happening.
- Total: 3 stages per survivor.
-
@Vishlumbra said:
Personally, I am not too excited about a perk that can add 8 hook stages to a game. Idk.
Add? Someone takes a hook state from another. No new states should be created, iirc.
-
I like the idea of the perk. Winning the favour of the Crows at a cost.
But it’s got way too many downsides for the return, to the point of it being a net-negative.A shame.
-
On the survivor side, it was fairly well-balanced. Later on, I saw a lot of quadruples, but it happened with all four roles, so yeah.
As for killer, I can’t say I paid attention to it, probs on account of me getting confused on what role does what. The one that drops the killer’s TR seemed fairly popular.

The last 10 dev updates or so all came out on Thursday before the actual patches came out, which is 5-6 days of a gap
That's still 2/3 workdays. Remember, BHVR staff doesn't work on weekends.
If anything, that pattern would put it on Monday, actually.wait it is monday mb
-
I wouldn’t say we’re “long past” it. It usually drops one or two workdays before the release. Given the release is on Thursday, I’d assume it drops on Tuesday or Wednesday.
-
I imagine it’ll drop on Tuesday or Wednesday, seeing as the release is on a Thursday for a change.
As a side note, BHVR isn’t open on the weekends, so there won’t be any patchnotes regardless of release dates.
-
Striving for graphic fidelity is the primary way to make your game look dated in only a couple years’ time.
The Entity creates its environments from the memories of the people it takes. It doesn’t necessarily understand what it’s actually creating, though. It doesn’t need to.
Additionally, it’s specifically attracted to locations where tragedy occurs. These create so-called “Overlaps”, places where the barrier between the Entity and our own world is at its weakest. It stands to reason that this only occurs in human-dominated spaces, since we’re the only ones capable of comitting true atrocities, and have strong emotional reactions to them. -
You’re certainly not alone there.
I’d also be against adding voicelines for the older characters. I feel like the ambiguity that comes with the lack of them shouldn’t be lost.
Not to mention that a lot of characters pre-Resident Evil were voiced by in-house BHVR staff, some of which have even left the studio. -
My brother was in Madeira a couple weeks ago, and he made a fren
A Canary Islands chaffinch, I thinkA Madeiran chaffinch, which I suppose should’ve been obvious.

I see where you're coming from, but as someone who took a hiatus for a couple years, I have access to two. And the feathers of pride one looks more like a chubby hummingbird. No offense to anyone. As far as discord; I have no idea what those would even be. I'd settle for having some way of getting the older tome charms again. 🤷 Like I said, unpopular opinion.
A few of them have appeared in the in-game store a while back. I haven't been keeping up with the rotation since then, but it might be worth checking every week or so?

could not agree more. Did you know there's only 17? 20 if you count the prestige perk charms??

okay well those are the only ones I’m getting. Is this intentional?
No idea, but I do think it makes sense that all killers use the default selection for 2v8. Otherwise, you’d encounter issues. On a technical level, you’d need to program a system that gives priority to one or the other TR. Having both play at the same time isn’t ideal. And even then, who gets priority? The one who’s closer? Won’t that result in constant switching of themes? Maybe the one whose radius you entered first? You’d need to program a unique detection mechanic there.
Using the default themes on all killers is much, much easier.
-
Trapper and Bubba don’t have their own Terror Radii. They both use the default selection of 6 potential themes.
-
They seem to have this iteration associated with the Cozy Break collection. With new outfits for Spirit, Legion, and the Lyra siblings. No time limit, though.
These three are limited-time, however. Two Badges, and one Banner.
-
Multiple things
The CoH nerf was well over a year ago, and you only noticed it now?
CoH was stupidly strong, singlehandedly eliminating hit-n-run playstyles. You realise the latter, but then fail to realise how stupid strong a perk has to be for that to be possible.
“Rank 10 Ghostface.” Ranks haven’t existed for a few years either. And besides, if you’re referring to actual ranks, you were only halfway there. If you’re referring to prestige, that’s really funny.
-
They’re a pretty good excuse to birdpost 🤷♀️

Does the scourge hook perk transfer scourge hooks or just create more? Seems like it’ll be pretty abusable when combined with regression perks of virtually every hook can be transformed into a scourge hook.
It creates more. Though remember, Pain Res can only be activated once per survivor.
-
Her perks to me seem to embody a flagellant mindset. Wanting to take the hit to aid others out of (pragmatic) empathy, or because she believes she’s the one that deserves it, or that she’s the only one capable of handling it, or maybe out of straight masochism.

This Killer was leaked some time ago, or at least the artwork was. Perhaps they decided (since it was an original chapter) that there wasn't really any point in a build up this time around.
I can't imagine how demoralising it is to have all your work spoiled months in advance, time and time again.

They can be found in the so-called “Information Center” of the forums, but it’s pretty difficult to tell something new has been posted without checking social media regularly.
I was just scrolling through my Bluesky Bird Feed and stumbled on the announcement by chance, thanks to a fan account.
-
I mean, if there’s a video game character that has a dog, or there’s dog npc’s in general, there’s like an 80% chance the dog is pettable, somehow.
I don’t think this can be considered a downside.
-
I’m just speculating here, but I find it curious that the little marketing this chapter did recieve was all set in a swamp.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kJZ1czmKfUE&pp=ygUQZGVhZCBieSBkYXlsaWdodA%3D%3DMakes me wonder whether this chapter was supposed to come with the swamp realm beyond update.
It’s also odd how there is a new map in the PTB, but it’s not releasing with the chapter, instead seemingly coming with the winter event. An out-of-the-blue map drop like that hasn’t been seen since Grim Pantry.
-
I imagine they change when there's a new release or event. So the nearest change would be the chapter release sometime late November.
-
-
As usual, she looks stellar. Though from the one bot match I played, she felt rather janky.
But, like, that’s 1 game against the already weird bots, so it’s hardly a good basis.
-
My pipe dream survivor character would be Sebastian Castellanos from The Evil WIthin. There's a couple killer options there too, like the Keeper or Ruvik from the original (hell maybe even Laura), or Valentini from the sequel.
-
I wonder if that’s why the fog disappeared. So that the castle wouldn’t be culled out.
-
I made some friends through these very forums, if that counts?

Pixel Glasses for Adam Francis?
I had to go through my announcement thread history, but that one was 1 iri shard. Or a single digit amount, anyway. Same for Vittorio’s jester hat. Dwight’s propeller hat was an auric cell purchase bonus, so that couldn’t be it either.
I can’t find what the actual culprit is in my threads, though.
