I refuse to believe it was due to “balance issues” alone. Yes, there are extremely obnoxious builds and playstyles that almost intentionally invite “going next”, but that doesn’t explain the sheer amount of it happening right now. People are going next in perfectly winnable games, throwing them in the process.
SM is the perfect example. It never was a balance issue with her. Was she obnoxious? That’s ultimately subjective. Yet even after her, what, fourth major update, people are still going next against her.
I say remove hook suiciding altogether. It’s become its own symptom regarding low survivor morale, and thus self-perpetuating. That way, people are actually forced to play, and in doing so may actually figure out how to counter the strategies/killers they so despise.
Yes, forced. You queue’d up, you’re here to play a game. If that turns out to be an issue for you, the dc button is right there. Take responsibility and either play the game, or eat the penalty.
We’ll figure out the balance issues from there.

The fact that killers couldn't use their powers in the Void made it rather unappealing for 4.4 killers (and nurse in particular) to continue a chase if it went into the void, so I'm glad to see that's gone. I still think it's an interesting concept to explore, but I'm not sure how to implement it without disproportionately affecting slower killers more than your standard 4.6's.
The haunts were… not all that useful last year. They gave a guano load of BP, but gameplay wise they were just kinda there. Maybe they'll prove to be too strong this year, who knows?
I'm also intrigued by the concept of a smoke bomb. We'll see how effective it is, and maybe it'll get turned into a perk at some point. We got Flashbang, after all, which is just a firecracker with extra steps.

Does it diminish the fact that the idolised characters are romanian?
No, but your problem here is with Konami, not with BHVR.

Quick fire fun-facts that I've been sitting on for a while:
Some sea birds like albatrosses have these tubes within their beaks that excrete salt. This allows them to drink sea water safely, as well as fish for micro-organisms. You can see the tube just above the nostril. That little drip at the very tip of the beak is the salt being excreted. This is also the reason why sea birds shake their head so often, as they try to get rid of that dribble.
(from: Albatross - Wikipedia)
(from: Cruising With Birds - Ornithology)
Woodpeckers, as you know, peck into trees. They do this primarily to find bugs hidden within the bark. But a sharp beak isn't enough to actually get the bugs out once they've been exposed. Woodpeckers, then, also have a really long tongue.
(from: Green woodpecker tongues are so long they wrap around their skulls | #########!? | Earth Touch News )
The link already gives it away, but yes, the tongues are so long, that they do this:
(from: The Amazing Secrets of Woodpecker Tongues - ABC (abcbirds.org) )
Certain groups of crows have learned to use sticks to catch grubs. They're very particular about what makes a 'Crow Stick', too.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-HF-wBwQsc&ab_channel=ZeFrankOwls cannot actually move their eyes. In fact, they don't have conventional eyeballs at all. They have so-called eye-cylinders. This was the owls' answer to needing way bigger corneas to hunt at night. Most nocturnal animals have developed huge eyes to accomodate the need for the bigger corneas, so they can catch as much light as possible. Owls have, comparatively, pretty small skulls, so they couldn't exactly develop bigger eyes, and developed cylindrical eyes instead. This is why owls rotate their heads so far round, and typically bob their heads up 'n down. They allow the owl to stay mostly motionless while looking around, and thus quiet.
(source: Owls Don't Have Eyeballs | Office for Science and Society - McGill University)
With peafowl, when you think of their mating ritual you'll think of the big display of tail feathers. While this is very impressive, even for humans, there's actually something else going on as well—something we can't actually see. And it's got to do with that fancy crest of theirs (the feathers on top of their heads).
(from: The Peahen (pinterest.com) )
As it turns out, when a male is displaying their feathers, the rattling it makes also produces a vibration. The frequency that vibration produces is then picked up by the crest of the female. As this article puts it: "When a male shows off his trademark fan, the female he’s courting doesn’t just see him. She also feels him, in her head."

True, but I still think they were better before the map reworks. Still not a fan of those changes.
Y'know, a few years ago, I'd have disagreed.
But sometimes I do miss just how different the maps felt. I can't find the right word, but I think I finally understand what makes you say that.
-
The art team in general is phenomenal. Like, visually, the map design team has yet to miss, imo.
-
The fact the information is there isn’t necessarily the issue. It’s the presentation.
Information about your power can also come from animations, sound design, VFX, not just icons. Clown is a great example of this. At a quick glance, the icons alone can be confusing, since they’re both bottles with a swirl around them. But then there’s also the coloured gas, which will immediately tell you what you have ready, whilst not straying from your peripheral vision.
As for the Unknown, you can develop a sense for when your shot is ready to fire from the sound of ‘it’ being drawn. There’s a sound cue for when your teleport is ready. There’s VFX for when a hallucination is about to spawn, so you can manipulate where it will be dropped.
I just think there’s a thing as telling the player too much as well.
-
I mean, 95% is an obviously wild exaggeration. And expecting a thank-you for not playing optimally seems silly.
Also, this is three topics in one.
-
Shattered Square with this bug looks pretty damn cool too.
-
Hag and Spirit.
Hag because she so, so often tunnels in my experience, even outdoing Nemesis percentage-wise. And Spirit because I somehow really struggle with telling where she is.
Blight, Nurse and SM are runner-ups for how they get kinda overwhelming for me. SM in particular has a lot going on, and I'm very prone to get information overload against her.
Also Trickster, but that's mostly just because I find him kinda dull to face.
-
There's a lot of things to consider. Regular DbD only ever features the one killer, so it doesn't have to worry about how another killer would interact with the various powers.
In the first iteration, the killers were fairly straightforward, with only Trapper presenting a real issue as far as interactions go. Should all killers be affected by the traps as well? If so, some will require new animations, since they can't just borrow Trapper's. Nurse especially comes to mind here. If other killers are not affected by traps, then should Trapper himself also not trigger them?
Then there's the balance issues. Billy got his direct instadown capability removed, and instead got a teamwork skill that applies Exposed. In effect, it's a sidegrade that nerfs Billy himself, whilst not just making him a worse version of himself.
All killers require such an overhaul if they are to work in 2v8. With movement-based killers like Blight and Spirit, that's easier to work with, since it's much easier to tune up/down some numbers here and there. They also need to have an ability that allows them to complement the other killer, regardless of who that is. And it has to make some modicum of sense for them.
And what about killers that spawn props? Should they still only spawn 4 boxes/crates/clocks, or should we bump that up to 8? What if you have two prop-based killers? You might risk not having enough spawns, which in the case of Pig would be a rather big issue. How many traps should Pig even have? She has 5 now, which is already more than there are survivors, so where would that number end up?
There's a lot to consider.
And that's just considering those factors. Actually implementing them takes time, and even then it might not work as intended, or have side effects that weren't considered.
I couldn't really say what the specific reason for it is, but it seems that licensed killers are also off the table for now. Might have something to do with the license holders not wanting their flagship serial killers to cooperate with one another, as it kinda takes away from what they are.
-
The achievements got changed into generic ones (not deleted, changed) because they would become impossible to obtain for players who didnt have the ST characters.
Some platforms don’t allow devs changing achievements/trophies, unless they’ve been rendered impossible to obtain. Given that they are always obtainable now, they can’t change them back.
Adding a whole new achievement for a every adept now is kinda messy, too.

I didn't watch it, what are they going to do against slugging? So far I have seen only reasons to do it.
because need to pick up, is very good reason to always slug. I rarely did it in past 2v8, but I might with changes I have seen mentioned.Slugging seem as way to go. No faster gens, no pallet/flashlight saves
I believe they mentioned something like this:
Every survivor class comes with a chargable ability. It recharges over time. What this does varies per class, obviously, but they mention you can also spend that ability to pick yourself up from the ground.
-
Cawliflower didn't win >:(
-
I like it as “build enabler” perk. On its own, it might not do much, but that’s perfectly okay imo. Because it takes a whole slot, it rather elegantly limits how many debuffs you can stick inside your larger terror radius.
-
Some items in the catalogue are unvailable to regular players, yes.

I wish you the best and thanks for the great job. Hopefully your health will get better and maybe you return one day again. I’m shure @CountOfTheFog will do a good job until you return.
I would like to reiterate that I am not leaving the forums. I'm just gone from twitter, which means I won't be able to share news from there, even though it's the primary source of "minor" news such as store codes.
The birds aren't going anywhere just yet!
On that note; ever seen a wren chick?
-
I've been winning a lot more, on both sides.
Though the amount of survivors giving up on first hook is staggering.
-
I think it has to do with your post count. I don't know what the threshold is for it to go away, but as you post more it should disappear on its own.
I could be entirely wrong, though.

Didn't Jeepers Creepers get a reboot under a new director? I heard that somewhere before. Maybe that'd be a way to do them without going to the previous.
Apparently the first few films were also written by him. Besides, no matter if it’s rebooted under different people, it’s still gonna be attached to his name.
-
Jeepers Creepers is one of the very few horror properties that was given hard no due to its director being a thoroughly vile man.
-
It's kinda par for the course atp. Do make sure to report them, though.

Seems like a massive waste of money that could have been better spent going to overhauling and reworking a lot of the older stuff/broken stuff in the game currently.
BHVR has many, many more projects than just DbD. I don’t think the acquisition of Red Hook is particularly relevant for DbD.
-
M&A, imo.

Performative statements on social platforms don't count as lending a hand to others. If that was truly happening, we'd be seeing an entirely different world now. However, what we see is that good people are a dying and irrelevant breed.
Who said anything about performative statements? I don't mean twitter. I mean actual, offline people. It really wasn't all that difficult to find dozens upon dozens of organisations with tens of thousands of members each that are making a real, tangible difference for people, animals, and environments on the whole across the globe.
I myself am volunteering for a charity bookstore which makes multiple donations of over 1000 euros to various organisations, both local and further away, on a monthly basis. Well over half of all of the people I work with are also active elsewhere, be it for homes for the elderly, troubled youth centers, immigration aid, just to name a few.
Those people aren't going to be on social media. Not a single one of them barring me even has a twitter account, and I've recently deactivated mine as well. Of course they're not gonna make any performative statements, they simply don't need to, don't care to, and usually don't even have the time to. Which in turn means that you won't find them if you only look on social media.
If you want some "good news" sources, I can recommend the following
Good Good Good | Good News & Hopeful Progress
I fully concede the name is cheesy as all get out, but it's a very nice way to remind yourself that no, not everything is terrible.
No, we don't live in a utopia. Not a single soul is claiming that, either. No, not everything is going well. But to ignore everything that we are doing right is frankly equally as ignorant as saying everything is peachy. Imagine how deep we'd have fallen if we didn't fight social injustices? if we didn't rally now to battle climate change as well as we can?
Imagine how much ######### we'd be in if we never fixed the ozone layer, for example? Yet we have. Or at least, the ozone layer is set to fully restore itself around the 2060's. We, as humanity, did that.
-
Are we sure it’s not a bug?
-
I have a very strong suspicion that the whole Castlevania theming went beyond visuals.
Like, this modifier seems a touch too perfect for Drac’s power. Survivors will be looking ahead, so they won’t be able to watch where he’s aiming Hellfire. Are they watching you? They won’t know where they’re going.
Lose a survivor? Just go wolf form and follow the scent. Wolf can also take out pallets, making for minimal distance lost. And even then, you’ll be able to track survivors afterward. And that’s not even mentioning that the already subtle lullaby of bat form got masked by the bats flying overhead as you were trying to do gens. You can’t exactly see the big bat coming until it’s right on you either, so unless you’re right next to a resource it’s a guaranteed hit.

People will never get nicer. Humanity hasn't improved at all and is heading towards its self-destruction, so when people are given tools to humiliate their opponents and make them miserable, they will.
That depends on where you look. Across the globe, many, many people are perfectly willing to lend a hand to others, be it to other people or nature.
Good people are out there, in their hundreds of millions. You just don’t hear about them because “thing went well” doesn’t make for interesting news.

Still holding out faint hope for The Evil Within.
If we're talking original, I'd love a fully marine themed chapter or one that goes real hard on a Burtonesque vibe.

Im gonna be devastated if Cawliflower doesn't win.

Way back when, they had a system that made sure that every hook is at least some minimum distance away from every other one, including the basement. Given that I’ve seen hooks spawn right next to the basement, I’m guessing that system’s either been abandoned, or has been borked for a good while now.
-
the way i almost did a spit take when i read that

A yellow bar essentially means that you’re progressing faster than the default rate. What that actual rate is doesn’t matter for the bar to turn yellow. Mechanically, all it means is that you’re going faster than 1 charge per second.
A red bar then means you’re progressing at a slower rate than default, ie., slower than 1 charge per second. I forget what the cooperation penalty is exactly, but it will turn the bar red without further modifiers.
If the bar is yellow in your scenario, that means that, despite the cooperation penalty, you’re still going faster than 1 charge per second.
Whether that’s “worth it” remains situational, though. -
I’mma agree on Eruption and Dead Hard. Though I disagree DH was “overhyped”. Its pickrate was unrivalled for good reason.
As honourable mentions, I’d also add og Mettle of Man, Boil Over in combo with og RPD, Adrenaline (admittedly a personal pick) NOED, Pain Res when it didn’t have its 4-token limit, and old Ultimate Weapon.

I would imagine a mute feature would be available.
Yes, but then you return to the same issue we have now.
To prevent harrassment, players are gonna mute others, which in turn means that they won’t benefit from communication. That in turn results in the issue of lacking communication still being there for them, whilst also turning the conversation into “just use voice chat 4head”. That, in turn, just alienates those who don’t want to bother with vc.

50% on killer tonight…

well, good news then!

Strictly speaking, Crotus Prenn is the the name of the realm. It consists of Disturbed Ward and Father Campbell’s Chapel.
Disturbed Ward definitely leans more towards survivors. The main building and its generator spread are tough on M1 killers.
Chapel is generally decently fair, but some windows and tile combinations can be nasty.

I wouldn't say it's a slideshow, but my CPU is having to work much harder than before, yeah.

True. I kinda miss them too, especially the voice actor. I also wish the developers would do more behind the scenes videos. The last one was foe Tools of Torment- iirc. These videos are cool to watch and to see how difficult a chapter can be.
I guess someone at BHVR thought these videos are wasted money because the game is well known and is full of content creators, shorts, and everything. But it is kinda sad that there are no spotlights or behind the scenes.
If it's specifically the VO you're looking for, I've found he also narrated the release trailer of The Outlast Trials.

I've always been very partial towards the Pale Rose. Couldn't really tell you why, though.
-
I'd honestly be surprised if we didn't.
The question is more who would join him as the survivor? Sam is too similar to Tapp, methinks. If not straight-up Augustine herself, I can only see it being Linda, tbh.
-
Jargon is funny like that. Trying to apply dictionary defintions to a jargon sphere doesn't work. It's fascinating to observe, though.
Kobe'ing has very little to do with basketball, except maybe for the vaguely similar motion. Yet it's the colloquial term for getting yourself off the hook in the English-speaking part of the community.
"Mori's" were never called that officially anywhere, until relatively recently. The action has always simply been called "kill" or "kill by your own hands". It's only the Memento Mori Offerings that contain the word Mori at all. Yet it became so widely understood as the mechanic and animations of the "kill", the very in-game store now features a "view Mori" button.
-
At the very least, double it. 4 survivor perks, 4 killer perks. Keeps the diamond shape intact, and also makes for a full build (for better or worse.)
-
You're getting good performance???
My PC (which admittedly is a laptop, but still) is struggling, even on the lowest settings. Like, it's taking up 100% of my GPU. The boot-up sequence of all things is running at 3 FPS.
Also, there's been a shocking lack of (live) birds so far.

I'm trying to post a link, but for whatever reason it doesn't seem to be embedding properly. let's try again.
Submit a request – Dead by Daylight
there you go. no idea why it borked earlier.

If nothing shows up for a long time, I'd recommend submitting a support ticket. You may have been one of the players who fell through the cracks early on.

The issue has been fixed. New players should get their rewards as normal, but players who've already launched the game should submit a support ticket!
