So, I have found that using a stream of knives to the side of a Survivor often makes them go the other way, so one thing Trickster can do is steer his victim around a little bit.
That said, opening with knives is actually not a bad thing to do, because Trickster does not get a slowdown from injuring people that way. It lets him close the gab on the second injury via bat-to-head very quickly. He can still use his special magic ability: KNIVES, to herd his victim away from areas that would make him lose them, though it's honestly only a matter of time until Survivors learn to sum up whether or not taking a few stabs from afar is worth being corralled into a deadzone.
he does get slowed down though??? He is slower than nurse when he throws knives lol.

I said yeah she probably should have killed herself on hook to give you hatch and got flagged lol

Just run DS then

Yeah, but I rarely used the knives. :) Remember, I said I play Spooky Myers. Thus I'm chasing people at 105% with my kitchen knife. His baseball-blade at 110% felt quite quick to me. I was braining people with the basic attack FIRST. Most people start with the knives, lead with them and rely on them. I didn't rely on the knives. I ran:
Play With Your Food, Star Struck, Agitation, and Nurses Calling *Mostly... I tried several other variations.
*Just like with Myers I would use PWYF to token up with normal chases so that I was at 125% speed before I'd brain them with the bat. If I could catch them again with the Bat I'd put the target down and often slug to make sure I got some people in my Terror Radius and then pick up and Insta-Down. I used the knives more often than not to create Generator Pressure and drive people off Gens without having to get close. They don't know if I'm coming or not. They just assume it because I'm throwing things at them.
To me Trickster is a weird mind gaming M1 Killer who uses the knives to disrupt and create havoc, not put people down. I consider the extended chases required to do that pointless. If you get someone now and then because you catch them in the right terrain to whack them with the bat and then spray them down... great. But that isn't something I'm relying on. The knives are my bird-dog, to get people out of where I don't want them... jungle gyms with bouncing blades... off Generators... and so on. I would sometimes flush people out just by suddenly sending knives into an area that looked suspect to me and damn if they didn't go running. They assumed I'd found them, and thanks to that I did. The knives are NOT effective weapons. I use them for mind games and flushing out prey.
I found it very effective. BUT I have to stress in the face of so many unhappy people (with the Trickster) that I specialize in a SLOW Killer normally that uses mind games and ambushes and intercepts as his primary style. I treated Trickster very much like a Spooky Myers who gives up a zero Terror Radius in exchange for the ability distress and grief Survivors and ideally flush them out into the open. It worked for me. But it was also boring. I already play Myers and like him MUCH better. :) Thus I just want Trickster's Perks.
Do I think he will get some changes? Oh, almost certainly. To make the Trickster work you have to play like a crazy mind gaming Stealth Killer when most people don't do that. They will end up having to change him quite a bit so he conforms to how the majority play.
Spooky myers is one of my favourite killers to the point I sometimes play him without a map offering or some weird map offering to other maps but trickster doesnt remind me of him at all. there is no mindgame and the knives do so little that I was in a hatch standoff I close hatch I seem them on the door Im not that close so I think "hey why don't I use my ranged power at a range to stop them from opening the game" they got the gate open with the only thing being they got injured. Even clown can stop a survivor near them opening an exit gate. His whole using the knives to zone people completely falls appart when the survivors realise you cant zone them cause they will be barely effected and it will go away in 5 seconds. If you are just using him to zone people then you might aswell play bang bang man, triangular prisium cranium, sick or hatchet woman since they do a much better job at it.

I saw (through the UI markers) a Trickster down survivors just with knives quickly and consistently enough in one game to feel like he has a high skill ceiling. I think it was in Autohaven? (Note: we absolutely did not survive that game.) Getting caught with no cover against him is pretty much a death sentence when dealing with someone who is good at aiming with him.
I hate to break it t ya but tricksters recoil makes it so its 90% luck where the knife goes. It is not at all fixed even in the slightest and is extremely horozontal. Getting caught with no cover is a death sentence against literally every killer especially ranged ones.
-
@Moundshroud said:
I don't like Trickster. I didn't find him as problematic as everyone else because I play Spooky Myers in better than 90% of my games. A slow 105% Killer is my jam. By comparison, Trickster seems quite speedy. I just find him BORING. I found there is one effective way to play with him, and yes I submit there is an effective way to play with him (or at least it was for me). He is just entirely ONE NOTE. So, after the PTB I didn't have much interest in playing him, but I do want his perks. I used some Auric Cells I had built up and purchased him. I've been playing Survivors and Killers I enjoy and grinding that Rift, while pouring every BP they make into the Trickster. I'll probably have all three of his Perks unlocked by the end of the day, depending on how many real world things to do.
I'm looking forward to the Trapper with:
Agitation, Iron Grasp, and perhaps even Mad Grit. If I go with Mad Grit the fourth Perk will probably be Corrupt Intervention or an info Perk. If I don't go with Mad Grit, I'll probably have an Info Perk and Corrupt. :)
My point being that picking someone up and running around Insta-Downing people is nice, and has synergy with the Trapper also getting people in the basement. It also works with things like Monitor & Abuse and/or other Perks which increase your Terror Radius.
Fun fact whenever you try to use tricksters power (remember you have to be in this for 8 knives just to injured and that isnt including if rng cucks you so your knives go to brazil instead) you are slower than nurse. Survivors can outrun you. At least with huntress and doc etc you might be slowdown but you dont have to remain that slow for an extended period of time. Trickster has to be slower than nurse for a decent while.

How is he ######### then? The counter play seems to be hold W and run around objects and buildings.
he is ######### cause his power is barely useful. Old legion wasnt that strong but still was 0 counterplay and a pain in the ass to go against.

But when rng is put onto something that is allready weak it's never good
TBH RNG is always complained about in this game from map rng to bloodweb rng and there is now 3 killers whose powers are all based on RNG

then don't play him if you don't like him.

TBH everything but the killer is amazing. The killer however is too much of a mess and is a major part of a chapter so I don't think its a good chapter. I'm not even one of the "kpop = bad" or "he doesn't fit in a horror game" people since I think DBD abandoned horror a long time ago. His power just feels so unispired underpowered and unfinished.
-
According to the lore his arms are made of par boiled spaghetti

The sad part is I have some knowledge of coding and they literally just put a rng code into it for the horizontal recoil effect vertical is consistent at least
Its not like the RNG is one of the most complained about parts of this game lets just add our 3rd killer fully reliant on it for their power to function.
-
Same way as I got plague just never use your power. At least plague was a 115 with good perks but like genuinely just do not use his power and the adept is much easier.

I can get recoil but they chose the worst type of recoil. random recoil and greatly exaggerated how much there is
dont forget its also horozontal recoil. Vertical is easy to compensate for since its literally pull down but horozontal unless its fixed (which this very very much isnt) is a pain in the ass
-
Dont worry he is aLso slower than survivors when he takes out his knives and gets slowed down even more whne he actually throw them

Ehh it really is just a free misplay card. Survivor shouldnt have vaulted back the pallet but did anyway. E key. Survivor got a super unsafe unhook mid chase E key so you proc the unhooked survivors borrowed time. You playing blight or nurse. Lol E key nice power nerd. You judged distance wrong and wont make it to a pallet. E key.

Another thing fun does make him strong. Fun increases pick rates. Pick rates increases devs attention to that character. Devs attention to that character = More cosmetics/buffs/nerfs. Just look at Plague for example you rarely see her, pick rate very low if not lowest devs have completely forgot she existed. Legion not the best but fun to use so higher pick rate gets changes and massive cosmetics same for others just using them for example.
Shoudlnt trapper of gotten a huge buff then since he is by far the most picked across all ranks

Could he use a buff ? Yes we all know that. I don't know how we can say he is going to be the worst killer in the game when even if you lose he is fun as F**K. Those 2 games were the most fun I've had in this game for awhile. He laughs at them in chase, spins the bat after hits, and he can even keep survivors happy (maybe) by giving them more escapes 😂😂😂.
Fun doesnt make him strong and fun is kinda subjective. I didnt find him fun when I was aiming right at them and my knives were going off to Brazil. I like him design wise but he needs some major buffs. He also doesnt really seem fun to go against as survivor because even though he is bad he is kinda like old legion where there is no counterplay to him. Like wow oyu dodged some knives he has 50 more.

Lol! That why I'm not on the dev team.
You still need to aim with the potion like how you do with flash light so if you missed you lose that chance and have to wait for the CD. Maybe change Alchemist to stay at 60sec CD and just increase the duration from 1.5/2/3sec. Trying to keep it less powerful than a flash light.
For Fend Off that why I added token lose on hit but think changing it to gain speed temporary for X sec instead of making it permanent will be more fair.
Forbidden Knowledge can be active after saving X number of survivors or taking X number of protection hit and the timer is already less than the original struggle phase.
Forbidden Knowledge would have to be like a mettle of man perk where its effect is super good but its so hard to activate it just is a meme.
Fend off could be lose scratches for 1/2/3 seconds and you have say 3 tokens makes escaping chases actually escaping the chase but you only have 3 chances
A free flashlight just isnt a good idea

So I played to games with him last night. First one they played Haddonfield key and it seemed I had to walk long distances to re-load. I don't remember having this issue with my huntress maybe I always ran out in lucky spots. Anyway first chase I kept bringing my knife up and not throwing (didn't know how lol) then threw single blades the rest of the game..... Got 1 kill and 1 on death hook. Rank 1 he level 18 with Green & yellow perks - Sloppy, No way out, tinkerer, Monitor which really screwed with them just like DS. Now the 2nd game I swapped NWO with Starstruck and it won me the game. It's like hitting a homerun after you hook someone. Now I did run Trick blades with yumi's murder reducing the survivors laceration meter. Also The first game when I didn't know I could just hold the button the single blades are accurate and I noticed no recoil. Sure you can hold the button and spray but if you aint hittin ######### ......... try tapping it and single that #########.
yeah from what Ive played single tapping is definetly the way to go but you go so slowly in knife form its rediculous
-
@Madjura said:
It is impossible to land knives from any form of a decent range since he throws them with such random horozontal recoil.
The knives have the spread of a shotgun. The problem is that a shotgun shot has multiple small projectiles, and this Killer throws one projectile at a time. If he threw multiple knives at a time then the spread of them wouldn't feel so bad.
Yeah I went into several games where I would sit in front of a wall and try see if there was any form of a patter but nah it seems to be completely random.

I'd say he's the third worst from me playing only a day. He's definitely better than Trapper and Pig.
Pig at least can just play as an m1 killer and do better than trickster at most loops and trapper has a slow start but at least has some snowball potential

Can think of some that go with his lore and personality.
Forbidden Knowledge: On your last hook instead of being sacrificed you will be put into the struggle phase. The timer will be half the time of the original struggle phase.
Alchemist: You throw a potion at the killer stunning them. The stun time is less than the flash light stun, if flash light stun is 5 sec the potion is 3 sec. Have a CD of 60/50/40sec after each use.
Fend Off: Each time you evade a killer after a chase you gain a token. Each token give 1%/2%/3% increase to speed, up to 3 tokens. You lose a token each time the killer hit you.
Ima be real all of those sound op as #########. 16 hooks to win instead of 12. Instablinds back. moving almost as fast as a slinger not even counting other boosts. Hope fend off would make it impossible for an m1 killer to down you without bloodlust.

Well again, my aim sucks (And its 8 knives for a down, 4 trick blade ricochets for a down). Plus, new trick blades let us raise with indoor maps.
Oops meant to write down not injure and I dont think anyone needs good aim to be able to hit 8 out of 60 knives bounced off the floor. New blades seem more fun but are undeniably weaker imo
-
@ShamelessPigMain said:
Probably because it doesn't last that long. I doubt main event buffs would make Trickster very good, though.
It doesnt even fit with his power. Like it is just the most random thing like why. You are throwing knives and all of a sudden you press a button and just shoot and move a tiny bit faster. I genuinely forgot about the existance of main event until live after the PTB died and it was impossible to find any more matches.
-
@ShamelessPigMain said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2061283#Comment_2061283
Well they also gave him the ability to cancel main event, which has the unfortunate effect of, well, canceling main event, but it's a step.
I really had difficult getting use out of trick blades. My aim isn't much better than dog water but I can presume that it was also that the add-on wasn't that fun in the first place. I actually prefer the new trick blades; All I did was equip Lery's and go to town. It never worked but it was fun nevertheless.
Old trick blades could be cheese to remove the biggest flaw of it taking like 16 knives to injured. You could bounce them off the floor and could down people much faster.

@ShamelessPigMain said:

He also got a buff to main event and I really don't know what would count as a nerf in that package. It was pretty underwhelming but it was still a buff.
Not being able to stop shooting is a definite nerf imo as if you have tinkerer or some undectable thing you cant sneak up at all and it also makes any form of midgaming impossible during main event since you have a map wide red light more or less.
They nerfed the one addon that made him even remotely good and even with it he was still kinda mediocore
They fixed the main event taking ammo bug and I am convinced it was a bug because of his power description

He was buffed. It's in the patch notes on DBD's twitter, among others. Not much, but we'll have to wait out and see.
his "buff" was a bug fix and the other two are nerfs imo
-
@xxshyguyxx said:
I'm confused. With how bad he was during the PTB, why didn't the devs buff him then? Bc I like him. I like his power. I do. I just dont see how anyone can see his power as viable. It needs work.
The devs somewhat nerfed him from PTB they fixed a bug and gave him 2 nerfs
-
The fact that you have to go out of your way and lose distance if you want to use your power is bullshit especially for a 110 killer. There is no reason I would want to play him aside from trying to get his teachable and adept.
-
Run DS :)

It does go up and to the right so moving the mouse down and to the left slightly would be the way to control it, but it recoils in such an unintuitive way that it's nearly impossible to control properly. It shouldn't even be there in the first place tbh.
God have mercy on console players because I have absolutely no idea how they're gonna control this guy.
Nope I was literally just in a game and while I left the laft survivor find hatch i shot 600 blades (10 full sets) and in 6 of the sets it went to the right and in hte other 4 it went to the left.

Do you guys realize that the trickster can hit survivors with his bat? And he moves at an astonishing 115% of normal survivor rate? This means he can chase down survivors and hit them, then only once more before he can down them and hook them. 3 hooks.. and they're out of the game for good!!!
Not only that, but they've added a cosmetic taunt ability where you throw daggers at survivors - sure it doesn't do damage but it makes them yell and it's kinda funny... but when you want to hurt them it's just better to walk up and smack them with the bat.
I'm looking forward to all the cool techniques you can do with using M1 on survivors with this new killer. Thanks BHVR!
Ok did they buff him or something cause on the PTB he was 110%
-
@Almo said:
It's a playbalance consideration. If you could turn it off or even down, it would be an advantage over people who didn't since it would not muffle the sounds of the Survivors.
But that is a choice. Should graphics setting be removed because people who play on low generally can see things especially traps much clearer and the maps are a lot less dark.
-
@Gruo said:
Lorewise without going into the multiverse, they can easily use the same character as a survivor thanks to the way they built Talbot as a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde kind of character as they mentioned, and also because he was originally taken by the Entity as a survivor.
He transformed while in the realm because the Entity exploited his addiction to the serum. They can let someone save him like Vigo for example cause he is the one who created the serum and have knowledge about it, Talbot also holds Vigo in high regard, so these 2 will make a nice team, or they can make Talbot save himself by separating himself from Blight, and we end having both Dr. Jekyll (Talbot) and Mr. Hyde (Blight) the serum can be used as the reason cause we don't know what other effects it has. They can also use the idea of the serum losing its effect from time to time, and he switch between survivor and killer without remembering what he did as a killer but make him try to cure himself because even if he doesn't remember he is still aware of his transformation.
They really can do many things with this guy and hope him becoming a killer is not the end of his story.
Yeah Talbot's lore honestly could go so much deeper and especially in his time before becoming the blight

So is CJ tech intentional. Nah then lets remove that. Flicks just raise the skillcap and make the killers more intresting and I really dont get what he means by you have to hange settings. I change no setting and still always use flicks on Oni and Blight.
