How do you know? Its too early to tell
It's not too early to tell. It's a fact - there are too many variables, most of which are complete RNG, for ANY AI algorithm, period, to determine if a player in this game is good or not.
Are you a good survivor because you ran the killer for 3 gens? Maybe...but what if you only did that by using every pallet on the map and screwing the rest of your team? Does that make your typical rank 20 "good"? Are you a bad killer because you got Blood Lodge, the most opened map in the game, with Ghostface, a killer that relies on stealth and literally hiding behind walls? No, you're not. Are you a GOOD killer because you used an Iri Head on Huntress? Are you a bad survivor because you went against Forever Freddy on Hawkins Lab? Are you a bad killer cause you had 3 people on the hook during EGC, one had deliverance, borrowed time, and all 3 of them had DS? No. You're not.
The game doesn't know the difference, and there's no way for AI to determine the difference. Any seasoned player in DBD can watch someone with their eyes, killer or survivor, and whether they win or lose, you can more or less tell they are good on the game based on reaction times, ability to juke, ability to mind game etc. The only noteworthy thing an AI can determine is escapes/deaths/sacrifices. In most cases, none of these things have a lot of bearing on how good the player is.
This is a fact. It's not an opinion. "Too early to tell" is nonsense. It's never too early to have experience in the game and know BS when you see it. It's never too early for common sense.
-
The new MMR will literally do nothing of note.
Why? Cause it's impossible for an AI algorithm to measure skill in Dead by Daylight. For a variety of reasons.
-
When you get bullied as a Clown by a 4 stack SWF, just to get them again in the next lobby, and you go in as Forever Freddy.
-
Because breakable walls were never meant to be the answer to broken map loops like Ironworks, Groaning Storehouse or Coal Tower. Maps like those got fixed because they needed to be fixed. They were actually broken.
Breakable walls were meant to create a new dynamic in maps. Another layer of decision making and strategy for killers.
-
Fixated. It actually counters Spirit quite well.
Other than that, most of the "newish" perks I use have been for memeing. Which is what makes DBD fun these days. Like Pebble or Head On.
On the killer side...probably I'm All Ears. I don't care what anyone says, that perk is pure gold. If you go back a bit further, I'd say Corrupt. Surge on Demogorgon is pretty good as well, but I don't use it on my "meta" build.

I saw this video too and I really like the idea that the timer stops when you get tunnelt and the perk deactivates if you do something like repairing. It’s fair for survivor and killer
Yep; and there's no reason even the most diehard DS users who defend it blindly shouldn't support this either. Since their main argument is always "don't play like a scumbag, don't tunnel". Well hey, those offers total tunnel protection.
-
DS needs adjustment. I don't see the issue with pop. Pop only really becomes an issue if your'e too afraid to take a hit and run away instead of committing to the generator. If the generator wasn't that far along, you didn't lose much.
As for DS - I like @ScottJund idea. It SHOULD be made an anti tunnel perk. He recently did a video about it...well, it was partly someone else's idea, but he added interesting aspects to it. Literally every strong killer perk is INSANELY conditional to function, therefore DS should be too, given it's strength.

Welp Pig has hats to at least compensate that lack of mobility she can't have and make boxes a living hell with certain add-ons. I think she is pretty good rn
Not really. Against seasoned players, even if you put a trap on them, the traps are so meaningless that they heal up and do gens, even with the traps on.

I don't understand why...like....
- You can't add blood to clothes why? It's just pasting the same paint splatter on your current cosmetics. You're just pasting it on the current ones, literally just wearing a cosmetic on top of a cosmetic.
- 2 vs 8 game mode? 2 vs 10 game mode on KYF? Why? This isn't hard...like, what?
- Adding more gens on KYF, adjusting the gens or the totems, or how many survivors or killer on KYF, what?
- Why can't you start a KYF alone? Killer or survivor, I don't understand.
So many more to think about but I'm really tired.
- It would have been do-able back when the store first started. Now it would be a ridiculous amount of work for something that, to be honest, wouldn't actually get used that much.
- Server load balancing. It's just not that easy. It might be more possible now with dedicated servers, but KYF isn't run on dedicated servers to my understanding (or maybe it is?). Those modes in a live game would require balancing, and they can't even balance the base game correctly.
- Eh, not really a pressing issue.
- This I actually agree with. I would love to explore different maps, learn tile variations of new maps as they come out etc.
-
I don't understand why you find this weird. Survivors tend to enjoy going against killers that are (in theory) easier to loop. Have you ever taken into consideration the killers survivors tend to whine about?
Oni, Freddy, Doctor, Nurse (yes, even now), Huntress, Deathslinger, Spirit etc?
What do those killers all have in common? The old "run around a pallet, drop the pallet, run to another pallet, take a hit, deadhard for distance, drop pallet" basic noob loop doesn't work as well on them. They have to employ different looping strategies on them. Therefore - not fun.

Don't forget "pull a survivor from a locker using Iron Maiden".
THAT'S LITERALLY THE OPPOSITE OF HOW I'M SUPPOSED TO USE THE DAMN PERK BHVR
RIGHT!? Like, ZERO thought goes into some of these. Imagine requiring a perk to be equipped and having to deliberately not take advantage of it in order to complete the challenge MADE for it.
Honestly, they should really get the Fog Whisperers in on the challenges. At least they play the game on a consistent basis, and I feel like people like Otz, Tofu, Cahla and Tru3 would probably have solid ideas for challenges.
-
@Dwigtht said:
I don't know why people complain about "Dwight the brave"... if you have completed the challenge in a second try...
It is fine. It is challenging, requires some luck and good map, like The Game, but you can complete it.
Remember this?
At least that challenge doesn't force you to be a dick of a teammate. I actually managed to do that first try. Just run bond and play an offering for The Game.
The reason the Dwight challenge is worse is because in ADDITION to having to literally be in the killers anus for 60 seconds, you also have to be doing literally nothing for your team.
@Swiftblade131 said:
Not like there are many different challenges they can come up with that are the fun and quirky things ya'll are looking for.
Most of the challenges are things you would normally do in a game. Now everyone is trying to do them at the same time. I have never liked Battle Passes for this reason. It sorta ruins things for a time, which is annoying.
See the problem?
I think if you asked the community at large, they would come up with some MUCH more realistic and not toxicity endorsing challenges.

And you're wanting it to get nerfed why?
What is the core reason you want DS nerfed? Is it to play friendlier? To "have more fun."
HELLLLLLLLLLLL NO, I see every killer who want DS nerfed as a villain. You want to take away the only perk in their arsenal that prevents killers like you from playing scummy, from playing like a complete jerk. I can't even imagine the field day a player like your, or a player that wants DS nerfed has when they don't see an obsession.
You're probably the type of player that has their Steam on Private so people won't -Rep you to death.
I'm a killer main who is fine with DS. A player slugged is as useless as a player on a hook.
Can't you count to 60? Can't you tell who you just hooked and who recently was unhooked? You can't tell a Shirtless David from a Meg apart? What's preventing you from going for the unhooker? Do you need BBQ so you wouldn't have a reason to camp and tunnel? I can give you 500 Auric Cells if you need them so you can get Bubba. What reason do you have to want DS nerfed?
I didn't say nerfed. I said have conditions added; because it SHOULD be an anti tunnel perk.
Honestly - if you are going to continue making assumptions and putting words in my mouth that I never said, there's no sense continuing to argue with you. We both know I'm right anyway. Keeping having fun with DS. You obviously need it. Being the first one hooked and all.
Protip: DS is a trademark of people who can't run the killer well.

Yes people did literally count to 5 to dribble DS back then as the dribble would force the failure of the DS skill check.
I'll answer that question for them, since we both know the answer - no, they did not. Or are just trolling. Whatever the case.

"60 seconds of immunity."
Literally never said that. Honestly - you rely on DS. We get it. You can't live without it. Which probably means you're usually the first one to get hooked (typical). It's okay - keep trolling. You're bad at trolling anyway.

And there you go, deflecting because you refuse to answer my "non-obsession" DS question and rather drop the conversation than go any further.
I would have accepted:
"I can't answer your question, and can't come up with a point myself, so I'd rather drop the subject and continue to answer questions my brain cells can answer."
This ^ ^ As an answer, and I would have moved on.
It happens only in certain scenarios, but it still happens, and it shouldn't. There should absolutely be conditions to DS. If I hook 2 other people, DS should under NO circumstances still be active. This isn't a matter of opinion, it's common sense.
Even still, as I said, there are times where DS can't be counterplayed at all.
Example - end game collapse (and this has happened before, and to many others). 3 people on the hook. The fourth person used a key to get hatch. They should have been dead, right? You'd think so - except one guy had deliverance. He uses deliverance, you go to hit him...oh, he has mettle of man. Or some other perk like deadhard etc. Unhooks his teammate. I down the original guy, but the newly unhooked teammate has unhooked the other person. Down that person, and the person they unhooked. Now, the door is literally 20 seconds of crawling away, and it's opened.
Now, we have a situation with no counterplay. Do we pick them up and eat the inevitable DS? Or let them crawl out? We can't wait out the DS. The door is over there; and dribbling is gone, so we can't counter the godlike counterplay of hitting a skillcheck like a "skilled" survivor. I took the gamble, picked them all up, sure enough, they all had DS. Yep, totally fair.
It needs to have conditions on it. Like every other perk; and speaking of conditions, it needs to have less synergy with other perks; which shouldn't be an issue, given that BHVR goes out of their way to remove any strong synergy from killer perks.

A good counter is dont play scummy :)
So let me get this straight, since you're clearly new to the game and have no clue what scummy is - if I hook you, leave the hook, and during you getting unhooked/healed, I have hooked 2 other people, and I find you again when patrolling gens...and I get hit with your DS...I was playing scummy? OKAY THERE bud. Play more killer, then I'll allow myself to acknowledge any validity in your opinion.

How many times did that work? An easy body block would have countered your "dribbling."
How can you dribble a survivor that wasn't the Obsession and reached 30% wiggle and hit his DS?
Where, pray, is this counter to this?
It actually worked fairly often. At least it was an opportunity to counterplay.
Look, it's obvious you have no real insight here. You absolutely refuse to, again, address my original point. Conveniently ignoring it yet again. I shouldn't be surprised, honestly.

Only players I see complaining about DS when I play are the ones who still (for whatever reason) believe it is strictly an anti tunnel perk or just have a bad memory and can’t remember who they hooked.
They wanna hit that sweet tunnel spot when they see no obsession at the start of a match. Know what I mean?
I don't even mind that. What bothers me is I can hook a person, go chase, down and hook up to two other people, find the first person again and STILL be DS'd. I don't mind it being anti tunnel (which it's not supposed to be). DS needs to be conditional.

Imagine thinking after getting looped around, before getting your first hook having the survivor DS you is "better."
That x's 4. Imagine thinking it's "better' when the survivor chooses when to use DS instead of only activating until you're unhooked.
Imagine thinking getting DS'ed at the gates on purpose and t-bagged while the survivor escapes was "better."
Imagine not thinking having an actual counter, like dribbling, isn't better. Imagine actually thinking that the way it works now, where DS works whether you're the obsession or not (and this, leaving the killer to just have to guess), isn't stronger. Imagine actually believing that being DS'd and teabagged at the gates isn't still something that happens (like legit, do you even play DBD? KEKW LUL). IMAGINE actually posting that and feeling like you outwitted someone, just to get shut down harder than Windows ME.
Legit, there are ways it's less strong, but overall, it was a buff. Judging by your clear bias and lack of knowledge on the game, I wouldn't expect you to understand, or even attempt to understand. Hell, you won't even respond to my original argument. Those times/situations I talked about now where DS literally has no counterplay? With old DS, you could actually do something.

Positivity is a personal issue. Not a game issue. If you can't keep it in your mind and your heart that it's just a game and doesn't matter or effect your life, it's a personal problem.

"Some times" isn't concrete evidence.
The same can be said about Freddy, Spirit, NOED Adrenaline, ANYTHING.
What? Did you even read my post? That has no relevance to what I said. Besides, all the things you listed have some sort of counterplay. Spirit can be outplayed with iron will and/or fixated. Freddy can be countered by not sucking at looping, and if he's pallet Freddy, having small game. NOED can be countered before it ever comes into play, so don't even play that card. Adrenaline doesn't really have a counter per say, but it doesn't really "need" one since it's not a hard denial 90% of the time. It's not always easy, but it's there, and possible to do. There are times where there is absolutely ZERO counterplay to DS, and these situations occur in I'd say at least 3/4 of matches where DS is present.

It does not matter what you can use to do it is the information given to you within the game? If not then im sorry to burst your bubble by definition its cheating there's no way around it you are allowed to believe it's not but it almost 100% is not saying people should be banned for it personally i could care less I know how to play around it but we can sit here and jump around all day at the end of the day by behaviors definition it gives them an advantage they otherwise wouldn't have without using 3rd party programs its cheating by that definition it is completely cheating notepad or not you are still using information to gain an advantage you otherwise wouldn't have.
No. Is it morally wrong? Yes. Does it suck the fun out of survivor? Yes; but when the developer takes this vital piece of information, and stores it on your PC in plain text, it is not cheating to look at it. You can not turn around and call it cheating. Of course, you, in your opinion, can consider it cheating, but that doesn't mean it is. It's on the thin line between cheating and not cheating for sure, but given the nature of the issue, and that you can literally just use your OS to inspect the file, it can't fully be defined as cheating. It's an oversight from the devs.
It's not the players giving themselves the advantage. It's BHVR giving the players the advantage due to their typical nature of overlooking things.
Regardless - it lands very securely in a gray area that exists between cheating and not cheating.
-

I mean they are giving your computer the information yes but without the program you wouldn't otherwise have it by definition its cheating.
You can literally use notepad. Notepad is not a third party program. It's literally built into windows. Again, you can't make the argument that reading a text file on our PC is considered cheating. ALL the owness in this situation is on BHVR. Not the players.
-
@MonsterInMyMind said:

It is technically cheating you are using something to gain information you otherwise wouldn't have you can't really debate that it is cheating. At the same time behavior could also easily fix it by just removing the server feeding information before game it's not very hard to do they just have more priorities at the moment.
It's kind of a gray area. On one hand, you have a point, but on the other hand, it would be a perfectly valid argument to say that BHVR is presenting us with this information in literal plain text, and therefore it can't be considered cheating. They would never LEGALLY get away with saying "We're going to store this text file on your PC, but you're not allowed to read it". That's a battle BHVR would lose. Hard.

That really is true, you know. Killer cosmetics are mostly for the amusement of everyone else. Kind of seems silly to keep buying killer cosmetics when you put it that way, doesn't it? lol
The only killer cosmetics that really can be seen are weapons. Like, with the Doctor, I literally only use the wooden baseball bat.
-
@Warcrafter4 said:
Using a 3rd party program to get an advantage the player shouldn't have counts as cheating(Temp ban) at best and hacking(Perma ban) at worse.
The issue is, it's literally impossible to detect and ban for unless there is video of someone doing it.
People can use notepad to figure out who the killer in the lobby is. Are we going to ban for having notepad running? Good luck with that.
Most people use a little java applet to read the killer info for them (according to a couple people in the discord, anyway). You know what program runs when you run a java .jar applet? javaw.exe. Good luck banning for javaw.exe.
Nah, this is something BHVR has to own up to and fix; and no, encryption is not an answer. People WILL find a way to decrypt it. They need to reach deep down into their brains (the same ones who thought it was infinitely wise to store a killers identity in plain text in the first place) and come up with a better solution.

There still remains a signficant penalty for the killer when a survivor.
DC's usually occur when about to be hooked so should count towards a hooking.
BP isn't rewarded and loses any advantage of a perk like PGTW.
The only penality goes towards a short time out which most players have worked out how often they can DC before they go to bed or stop playing.
I agree to an extent. They should count as 3 hooks towards emblems, but the bloodpoint gains should stay as they are.

If you can, watch the video. He explains why the MMR will ultimately be really inaccurate way better than I could here, lol
But yeah, dude. You'll get better. Even when you feel you've been shafted by getting a seal team 6 SWF (which even exist in brown and yellow ranks, because people derank for teh lulz), always look at what they did, and how you could have out played it. There's almost always a way to outplay it. Mind you, you'll have to be a sweatlord to outplay them, but that's kind of what killer is all about lol
-
IN ADDITION, regardless of what BHVR said, they literally can't do an accurate skill based MMR in DBD. Here's a video by ScottJund that explains why in detail:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIbOwzTzSIU -
You really need to start buying it. It's a known fact, and the devs of the game have actually came out and said it. For survivors, you can get to rank 1 just by playing. It's unbelievably easy to pip as survivor. You don't even have to survive. Take it from a guy with nearly 4000 hours in this game.
In terms of wanting to be matched with people of equal skill - nigh impossible. The issue is, there's no accurate way to measure skill in DBD, so you're always going to be paired with people all over the place in terms of skill. Really, it's a good way to get better. Instead of letting yourself get psyched out because you got beat by someone who easily outplayed you, look at how they outplayed you, train yourself to outplay their plays, and to be ready for when they attempt to outplay you.
-
This "rank = skill" mindset needs to die.
-
That's not just the new player experience. That's basically the killer experience overall. You have to word 4x as hard, play 10x sweatier, and endure 20x the hurling of excuses from, survivors. Combine that with the fact that BHVR is constantly giving survivors perks that synergize with eachother, while at the same time going out of their way to remove meaningful synergy from good killer perks. It's a balance issue, not a rank issue. You're not getting top tier players just because you're at purple/green/red ranks; and players aren't top tier because of their rank.
-
Rank means literally nothing on the survivor side. Even BHVR can be quoted as saying it's basically a measurement of time played in a month, and not skill. There's as many red rank potatoes as there is brown rank potatoes. Chances are you're just psyching yourself out a lot of the time looking for reasons to justify your loss rather than looking at how you could improve. You'll run into death squads at all ranks. That's actually part of the reason matchmaking is so broken right now; because it's so easy for survivors to get to red ranks. I'm a rank 1 killer, and more than half the time, because of how terrible the matchmaking is, I'll end up facing a mix of red and brown rank survivors. Literally, a rank 4, a rank 1, a rank 13 and a rank 19. The brown/yellow ranks a lot of the time actually do better. The red ranks usually end up dying first. It really isn't an indication of skill.
That being said, the MMR is not rank based. It's skill based, which is just as broken as ranks themselves. It's impossible for an AI algorithm to measure skill in a game like DBD. There's too much RNG.

Was i supposed to fail to stop the almost completed last 2 gens and get 0 kills? or trap him for a min to hope for one? i wasnt trying to grief, i was just stressed out and felt bullied for playing a weak killer that i adore.
Being that there's no way to hold a game hostage anymore with EGC existing, no, you shouldn't be banned for it. That being said, regardless of what they did, it was still a dick move; and that's coming from me, a killer main.

Then agian, most killers aren't dicks enough to immediately mori the survivor that gets farmed.. This specific case yes its not worth dcing. I remember how back in the day when the survivor rule book was an actually real thing before being memed into oblivion. Using a killer power was considered a crutch and if you had to use it you weren't a good killer
It is ironic really. The talking points change, the sides change, but the mentality never does. Now exhaustion perks (Even in their current state) are now "crutches"
Ah yes survivors must only use the most "balanced" perks like Plunder but not actually because it could give them a good item with addons
The humanity. Sigh we've become a bunch of whiners
I'm not dictating what survivors "can and can't" use. I'm just saying, if an exhaustion perk is a requirement for you to do well, you're a mid-tier survivor. I haven't used an exhaustion perk outside of adrenaline and head on (head on barely counts as exhaustion) since the exhaustion nerf 2 years ago, and I've become a better survivor for it.

I dunno if this is a particularly helpful line of thinking- but basically you're agreeing with my original point?
I suppose. If you think that you're not a good survivor if you require an exhaustion perk to survive.

I agree here tbh. A good huntress doesn't need the help. Exhaustion infliction should be a minute at most.

Bad survivors go down even with exhaustion perks, good survivors can use them to double the length of an already long chase- dead hard is really bad for that.
As things stand it's a no brainer to bring an exhaustion perk- I can't blame people for that, but challenging this status quo seems healthy to me.
If they needed deadhart or any exhaustion perks to assist them in a chase, they are mediocre at best survivors.

"There is an element of git gud here" - You literally said that it's easy to level up as a survivor and because of that ranks mean nothing, hence there being an element of "git gud".
But don't you think that maybe, just maybe, it's possible that the matchmaking system is a little messed up and that I'm being matched with people far more experienced than me? Are you suggesting that there isn't anything wrong with matchmaking and that I and many others are just imagining it?
Matchmaking is messed up - but you're ignoring the point completely. As a killer, you're just as likely to go against skilled players who are, themselves in yellow ranks, as you are in red ranks, and vice versa. Survivor rank means nothing, which invalidates your argument (that matchmaking is why you lose) completely.

Survivors want easy games. Without their exhaustion perks to rely on for when they inevitably screw up, they'd be dead sooner.
