  • The loss of ruin has actually made this game more enjoyable for me. I can’t believe I said that, but it’s true for me.

Yes, I have games where I am absolutely blown out of the water with good SWF groups. However, this would’ve happen with or without ruin.

You win some, you lose some. I have had to adapt strategies and different techniques to stand a chance, but I have enjoyed it so far.

  • Am a killer main.

If i kill a survivor, I am toxic.

if I camp a survivor when the gates are open and end up killing more of their little friends due to their stupidity, I am toxic.

if I use certain perks, I am toxic

if I use the Hag, I am toxic.

if I run around and zap people as the doctor, I am toxic.

These are all but a few things I have seen slung at me during end game chat. I don’t openly tunnel or camp people, as honestly that’s boring for me. I do what I can to play a fun game for everyone... yet I get berated about some of the dumbest things.

This is why many see survivors as toxic little maggots. Plus it’s four against one, so people feel “safer” in numbers online to act like spoiled children.

This garbage is exactly why I do not even have end game chat open. As far as I am concerned, survivors are little bots running around.

  • Oh I see.

We got ruin blown into the ground, so why stop there, right? Let’s go ahead and take NOED off of the table. After that, let’s remove the aura reading of BBQ, then discordance only works with four people on a gen, spirit fury works after four pallet stuns... yes, let’s keep the nerf train just a rolling.

Do totems. It’ll completely remove NOED from becoming a problem.

  • @MysterTal said:

Replaced all Killers with a mop.

The mop has 50% movement speed, its Base Attack is equivalent to about 20 Legion Frenzy hits... Oh, I'm sorry, I got it backwards - it takes the mop 20 hits to apply a single Legion Frenzy hit.

The mop is then fatigued and paralyzed for 320 seconds.

The mop has no further abilities.

Added 30 new mop skins, though. $5 each.

Truth be told, it would be quite terrifying to see a piece of cleaning equipment strolling towards me by its own free will.

  • Anytime things start getting bad, it’s back to the Hag. She is uncommon these days, so many people don’t know how to play against her or underestimate her.

Not saying I always win when I go Hag, but I feel I have a much better chance then when I goof off on trapper or some other random killer I feel like playing.

  • I would rather DS cause the survivors to have a chance to miss and stab themselves in the face, immediately dying.

But hey, that’s my killer bias for ya.

  • Hag is a monster in the right hands. Trust me, you don’t want to buff her. She is a very viable killer with both strengths and weaknesses, and she can be beaten if survivors actually know and understand HOW to play against her.

Instead of cracking out the ol bandaid fixes, the General game needs to be fixed. Giant maps are pretty and quite breathtaking, but are an absolute nightmare for killers who have no mobility (trapper immediately comes to mind). If the maps were toned down, you would see killers perform a little bit better.

    just my two cents.

  • Depends on my mood and how the survivors behave, honestly.

If it’s a game where survivors aren’t being toxic dbags, I play a more fair play style. I won’t tunnel, I won’t camp, and I will do what I can to ensure that everybody has a good time. These are the games that I truly enjoy. If people get out and beat me, that’s fine, but it was worth the time invested.

On the flip side, once I start seeing the tea bags, clicky clicky, or a survivor intentionally following ME, then I don’t care anymore. I will mercilessly tunnel, slug, and if need be, face camp.

  • @ClickyClicky said:

It depends WHY they are good.

Mette of Man was a good perk. Why did it have to be nerfed? Because killers couldn’t handle the extra hit?

No its because it felt unfair to deal with. It was good for survivors and made them stronger but completely unfair for the other side.

Take Freddy. He’s not so bad. He’s strong but I don’t see the majority calling for nerfs.

However look at the old Forever Freddy build. Swings chains + jump rope was 21%, add thanatophobia and it could go up to 37%, throw in say 4-5 stacks of dying light and you had 49%-52% slowdown on generators. Then you had Ruin and Pop resetting any progress the survivors made.

Freddy was strong and that was fine however Forever Freddy was extremely unfun because it just translated to survivors holding M1 longer. It wasn’t very fun game design.

Legion isn’t the strongest killer but has had more calls for a rework than any other killer. Why? Because he’s not fun.

If you play both roles then ideally you want killers to be strong AND fun but thats a tricky balancing act. You need something to make them strong but not something that will make them unfun to play against.

I agree with much of what you say... except mettle of man.

The perk itself was horribly designed. Yes, it’s one extra hit, but you start combining them with the survivor meta perks and you have damn near invincible survivors. An extra hit can add several minutes to a chase with a good survivor, further compounding a killers problems.

  • You're asking this community... to be less toxic? Are you new here?

There is a reason why I basically close my end game chat and never leave it open.

  • What I DO like:

Ruin is no longer a "mandatory perk." I can finally open up my builds and try out new combinations. I have fallen in love with discordance, personally. I never used it before, and now I have added it in with my new builds. Good times.

I don't have to fight ruin as a survivor. I understand why they changed ruin, because I am by no means a spectacular survivor. I can hit good skill checks all day long, but do struggle with greats.

    What I DON'T like:

Issues that still plague the game. Map balance is absolute garbage. Huge maps with a non-mobile killer = immediate disadvantage to the killer. This is something that honestly needs to be addressed.

Look, I understand WHY the devs wanted to change ruin. It's a terrible perk that is hurtful to new players. They don't understand its value at higher levels, however. Gen rushing teams and powerful SWF groups needed to be slowed down. This was a killer's only shot at providing a little relief. It's not uncommon to see one gen done before you even reach the other side of the map.

Instead of making maps the size of Nebraska, they need to shrink them down so killers who have horrible mobility (the sheer majority of them) have a better chance.

  • @SquidFacedMan said:

Win as killer, you played sweaty, lose as killer you're bad. Just add a QoL patch that allows you to disable the endgame chat and it'd 100% improve the enjoyment of the game for many.

Click the little chat bubble icon. Chat goes away until you decide to bring it back.

It has done wonders for me. Now survivors are just little bots that run around and I have to smack em. It dehumanizes them, therefore makes me less stressed out.

  • Would you prefer "Just a Bit/Somewhat/Pretty Fair?"

  • This is why I close the chat box. I don't see what people are saying, I have no reason to be annoyed from comments. I just dodge the whole thing altogether. As far as I am concerned, the four survivors are just little bots that run around and it's my job to play wack-a-mole.

  • There has to be a cooldown. As fun as it would be to zip from place to place instantly, it's even too broken for my tastes.

Yes, the Hag's traps have no cooldown, but we have one shot to get to it before it goes away. If we aren't close enough, then all we did was provide a jump scare.

  • I'm sure they will. The attention to detail in Lery's is absolutely top notch. From the banging window shutters due to wind to the little rats chilling in random areas of the map. The design team has truly stepped up their game. I hope they continue this along with their killer specific music...

Now if the balance team would get on this level, we'd be swell.

  • I have removed ruin from all of my killers that I use. The results have been fairly mixed... some good games, some okay games, and a few blowouts due to gen rushers.

I do like having that fourth perk slot open because ruin won't be considered a "mandatory perk". It has opened me up to a few new combinations of perks I would have never used.

Problem still is, however, lack of some killers map pressure on maps the size of Texas. By the time you reach the other side of the map, you've lost a gen already. This is what needs to be addressed. Want to take ruin? Fine, whatever, but address what the true issue is at hand.

  • I've hit survivors I have had absolutely no business hitting, yet whiffed on people standing directly in front of me. Baffling.

  • @Auron471 said:

Honestly, the only thing I find annoying is the camera attraction the phantasms have. Messes up my fast vaults.

then I go REEEEEEE when I get smacked

We call that camera flick. ;p. Smart hags use that to their advantage

  • The gen speed has been remedied.

They made gens go faster for baby survivors with ruin being murdered.

  • Define “cheaters.”

What exactly are people doing that you see as cheating?

I am not dismissing your claim, but I have been accused of cheating because I had mad grit on one of my killers and swiped my way to a hook.

  • @liquidlight said:

Hag is fine.😅 The only problem I have with her is that add-on that let's her teleport to traps at will rather than have them triggered and the only reason I have a problem with that is because it is always used (in my experience) to tunnel survivors that just got removed from a hook or to fish and go after the person that unhooked (which isn't as bad but still).

And I'm just saying this because I feel like even throwing the idea out there as a joke makes it become considered. Also, making a suggestion puts it in the mind of others that maybe it does need a change when it probably doesn't.

One thing I've learned from my many, many years of gaming is that when devs go overboard and change too much and especially if it's too often, the latter being so important, it kills the game. Players hate having to constantly adjust and learn things all over again, especially when they liked it the way it was before and if it's almost endless feeling.

Now I'm done. lol I swear I'm not taking it too seriously. Just talkative today. 😁

Well, if a hag had a brain and used make your choice with that addon, there would be no need to tunnel.

    Just me, anyway.

  • Leave my damn hag alone.

  • Considering I prefer killers with A small/no terror radius, it’s practically mandatory in my eyes.

It’s a staple perk for killers like Michael, Ghostface, Hag, and Wraith.

  • The lack of a terror radius and being clever to stay out of line of sight is very powerful. It’s rare that a killer can have surprise on his side, and when it does it can cause snowballs quickly.

He is also just fun to play.

  • Just got adept legion. I went in just for funnies and 4ked a group that had three red ranks and a low rank (I am currently 10).

They must not have been trying, honestly. I never play legion.

  • I demand banjos if he gets his own music.

  • Having been away from the game for awhile and hanging out in purple/green ranks, I took ruin off of all my killers as a preview of things to come.

Honestly, I feel less stressed about it. Ruin gave me one more thing to have to worry about. Now I can just focus on doing what I am supposed to do.

I am no stranger to red ranks, mind you. I toiled there before and understand the value of ruin. No perk can save you there. Bad map design and many killers with a lack of map pressure will beat you, ruin or not.

  • I tend to go after any survivors who have legs. They always seem to run away from me.

  • Killer: I swear I am blind at random moments. I can see a glimpse of someone crossing a field but will walk right by a person crouching in a corner... doesn’t even have to be a Claudette. Partially why I play Hag, they reveal themselves to me.

Survivor: Whether to rescue or stay on my gen. I don’t usually play with friends, so I am always unsure if someone is going to get the hanging survivor or not. It makes me anxious and drives me nuts.

  • That's what you got out of all these posts blowing up the forums? That one tidbit of information? Come on now...

How about our sound bug? Or is that just whatever?

  • Yeah, that's not happening. We enjoy this game and don't like what's being done.

  • This would be common sense, coconut. You should know that they do not operate on this.

You know as well as pretty much everyone ranting on the forums right now that there has been issues that have plagued this game for a VERY long time. Instead of fixing their game, they make pretty cosmetics and bandaid "fixes" to try and plug the holes.

They should have researched and dug into why so many killers are using this perk. If I was a dev, i'd want to know why certain perks were being used at such a high rate. If anything it'd be out of curiosity. What did I do right/wrong?

    Once again though, common sense.

  • Let me know when they fix the bugged sound that has been active for over a month or so and then we will see.

I've seen the "we payed" argument a lot and allow me to enlighten you.

Just because you paid for it, doesn't mean you can tell what the devs to add, do, so, etc.. it's not your game, it's theirs.

Allow me to re-enlighten you, pal.

You're absolutely right. We can't tell them what to do, it is their game. However, paying customers can take their business elsewhere. Nerfing killers into the floor will eventually cause more issues than it will fix. Survivor lobbies will become even longer, and then they start complaining. Things start to crumble, and suddenly the dollars go away.

Am I saying that this exact issue will cause the doom of the world? No. I have been saying that this is a symptom of a far larger issue that people want to overlook.

Newer players. A lot of newer players don't know how to hit great skill checks, much less good ones.

Heck, even some red ranks can't do it, but it's not about Rank 1s. It's about the newer players.

New players may not know about all totem spans either, making the entire match unfair and downright impossible for the poor new survivor players.

So what about new killers? They happen to pick ruin as a perk... they should be punished for their choice of a perk? Why aren't their hands getting held?

  • Had to get your two cents in, eh? Might wanna look at some of these posts currently exploding on the forum. There are a billion counter points to your... argument.

  • @Quol said:

The biggest reason there is so much outrage is how obviously survivor biased this update is. You can even see the insane bias in how the blog is worded. One of the BENEFITS listed for the new Ruin is that killers need to work harder. I had to do a double take when i read that. Devs, you cant except people to read that and go "No bias on that one :^)"

If there was something to address the reason why its used then there wouldve been less outrage but in addition to the Doc rework it just feels like an obvious "screw you killer, we are making it easier for survivors"

I think the Doctor nerf was just absolutely hilarious. One of the worst killers this game has to offer, and he gets a nerf because of his "frustrating gameplay to survivors." I was listening to people yapping about it on youtube when driving home from work, and I about died from laughter during my trip home.

It is so baffling and bias it's unbelievable.

  • @Umbrae_pk said:

A lot of people are complaining about new Ruin, and honestly it's annoying.

    Yes, the perk got nerfed.

    Yes, it was needed.

Yes, you guys are mad, but suck it up. that's what happens in an online multiplayer game.

This might not how Ruin will be released, it's a test for a reason!

The new Ruin isn't even live yet but you guys are already crying. You haven't even tested it out. Just read the description.

In the meantime, stay quiet and wait for the PTB to come out.

Allow me to enlighten you, friend.

The main problem with this is how BEhavior put their update notes out. How everything had to be with the survivor's experience. How "frustrating" certain things were. Killers, including myself, saw this and immediately became enraged. This is no different than when a DS change was inbound, or balanced landing got changed. There was outrage, there was screaming, spamming, threats of leaving, blah blah blah. So yes, now it is our turn to vent our frustration. We paid the money, are paying customers, and are within our full rights to say what we please.

We have had bugged sounds for probably two months now, we've struggled with keeping up on gens and dealing with giant maps on killers that have ZERO ability to maneuver quickly. Spirit was "unfun" to play against, nurse was "frustrating", and... the doctor? THE DOCTOR. One of the WORST killers the game currently has, gets a nerf. Because it was "frustrating for survivors." Most survivors laugh hilariously when a doctor appears, as the loops are real with this one.

    Sometimes, enough is enough.

  • @Mistikus said:

please do you will only make nerfing mori faster

Then do so. Let them nerf us into the ground so hard that everything crumbles beneath them.

As much as I hate to admit it, tru was correct in that they won't realize the problem until it's far too late.

  • I hate this. I really hate that you said it. Sadly... because you're correct.

  • @Almo said:

We expected outrage when doing a fundamental change to a perk used in such a large percentage of games. However, after playing with the new version, we're much happier with how it functions in the game as part of the whole system.

So you will continue making maps the size of Nebraska and making sure killers have no chance at gen pressure to better the survivor's chances at being successful? Unless you are Billy, Nurse, or a really lucky Oni, this will only feed this problem further. Yep, just "pressure gens."

Ruin is a craptastic perk. I feel like I HAVE to run it. I want to make better builds, but in some games I feel that if I don't have that line of defense, the game will be over before it even begins. How is this fun for US, the KILLERS? Sure it's great and grand for survivors, but we have to exist too.

Why did we use ruin so much? Did you think about it? Did you research it? Did you ask some of the more prevalent players and streamers that tout your game and give you advertisement about it?

i'm sorry if I sound pissed, but it's the pure fact I am. I am unhappy about the change, yes, but it's only a symptom of a MUCH larger problem.

  • This whole bias thing just absolutely baffles me. I have never seen a company flip the bird to one side of a competition in a game and favor the other in such grandeur.

From what I remember when I first started this game, the whole premise about it was that the killer was the one who was supposed to hold all of the power. The survivors were the weak ones, using what small ability they had to outwit the killer and complete the objectives. People were going to die, sacrifices were probably going to be made, and only the best and most clever (and perhaps lucky) were going to make it out alive.

Sounds like a fun game? Right? Has anyone seen it? From where I sit, survivors dictate both the pace and stress level of the game. They hold all of the cards, and it is up to US, as killers, to play to their strategy instead of them playing against ours. This flips this notion completely on its head.

The only thing I can think of as to why there is bias is because there are a lot more survivors than killer mains. Doing what companies do best, they cater to the majority and ensure their happiness... which in terms equals more dollars for them. What they seem to lack understanding of, is that without a killer, survivors won't be around either. This isn't Generate by Daylight, it's DEAD by Daylight. Unless the generators start taking swings at survivors (which would be a hilarious perk might I add), it's not going to go well for BEhavior. Killers will get frustrated and just give up entirely. Maps are getting larger, aside from the Oni, no recently added killer has been able to rip off great map pressure. Hell, even Oni got an immediate nerf once the survivors started screaming about it.

The bias is BS. Killers NEED to have power... it's what they are supposed to be designed to do.

  • @Almo said:

We do play it. To varying degrees on the team, but me personally... I play a lot. The new Ruin is designed to be something that ramps up in power over time. If that totem isn't cleansed by the time there are 3 gens left, the Survivors will be in huge trouble. That's how Hex Perks work.

How many times do I see a Killer get moris off Devour Hope? Not often. But when it happens... oh boy there's some panic lookin' for that totem. :)

Nice post, but it still doesn't address the issues. Rarely, and I mean RARELY, do I ever have any type of hex totem on any killer last more than a quarter of the game. People look for hex totems, people know where they spawn, or the survivor itself spawns right next to the thing. Large maps are especially problematic as we ourselves sometimes spawn a country mile away from the totem, meaning it's cleansed without us even getting a chance to defend it.

Err, I've seen lots of people complain about how it takes a 4k to black pip at red ranks. Fixing the gate keeper emblem is a step towards addressing that complaint, no?

Then destroying ruin immediately "unfixes" that issue. Fairly hard to have a match where you will pip when gens are being blown through.

  • Because killers have been getting nerf after nerf after nerf after nerf.

What's completely pissing people off is the bias that the devs have shown on the survivor side. Everything was about their experience, NOT the killers. Except the emblem thing, but nobody honestly gives a damn about the emblem system.

I won't feel better until they Nerf survivors to the ground like they did ruin I mean why not Nerf decisive strike why not Nerf dead hard why not Nerf adrenaline? oh that's right because the devs listen to the survivors more than they've ever done to killers

It was an honest question. I don't disagree with you.

  • I agree. I don't like the whole ruin change, but whatever..

If they plan on keeping this new ruin, it cannot be a hex. It's not even worth risking a perk slot to use if it remains as such.

glad you found it useful! i wish people would actually think of the possibilities instead of hacking a knee jerk reaction.

It's all well and good, and thought out very well, but let's face it... not gonna happen.

Behavior likes kneejerk reactions because they do the same thing themselves. It often takes a direct punch to their face to make them realize "oh, maybe we shouldn't have done that."

A shame none of those punches have landed yet.
