  • Well, i agree that the peter principle is not fully applicable here. However, that is the way how mmr works. Yes, you can derank, but seldom through normal gameplay. I think a lot of people will agree that the skill meassurement of mmr is ...flawed, at best. However, my point is that camping and tunneling artifically inflate the competence level of the killer, leading to games where he has to, and most likly, cant keep up.

Yes, a mmr that assess skill better than just the actually outcome of a game would be way better, but this is what we have to work with at this time, and i think people have to realize that.

  • Still, i as a survivor main would also say at least some of them are boring. Since the rework,, most of these maps allow simply for looping, while stealth and juking is eliminated in a lot of cases. And yes, just running in circles is actually boring.

  • So, now that YOU get serious about it, they will surly fix it soon.

The hexes are found early or late depending on rng, but it is entirely up to the survivors whether they survive or not. There is nothing the killer can do to disable exhaustion perks, short of perks or addons that can temporarily block them (which is part of why those addons are strong)

I used those two extremes as an example because they emphasize the lack of pairity between the two systems in the quote i was responding to. The usage limits between the two systems, as well as their risk reward ratios, are wildly different.

You might be right if it involves swf, but solo survivors cant rely on their "teammates", so it is up the the entierty of survivors in a match, but not up to the single survivor themself. Threating them as one entity doesn´t do this circumstances justice.

  • Well, i have seen survivors that instaheal themself and others, and instarepair gens, as well as flying around, even if downed.

I have seen killers that down the whole team in under 2 minutes (even from across the map with no auraperk triggering), and each player is sacrificed instantly on the first hook. And they can fly, too, and hit you through walls.

I never meant it to be an us vs them issue, especially since i play both sides anyway (although i am a survivor main).

It makes me sad this has happened to DBD.

Imbalance issues, grind, mmr, none of that makes me not want to play, but knowing theres subtle survivors cheating in a portion of matches (I have caught some in recorded matches) is the only thing that makes me want to walk away for a bit, and I don't want to.

To this date, i had more killer hackers than survivors, just saying. However, since i mostly play survivor, i dont have perfect knowledge of what is going on, and only can identify hackers that do it obviously (like running faster than me the whole time, or instahealing) AND do it in front of me, while a hacking killer usually becomes an issue in every game, sooner or later. So that is not representative.

Yeah, exactly... that was a missed fun fact, I chose 25 games because the number of uses makes it the same as the percentage. But maybe he noticed something else that he could clarify for us.

No, he didn´t ^^. I just misread something, because i often keep starts of my games myself, and i do it a little different, and habit took over.

At this point I have almost an entire month playing daily at least 6 games per day, sometimes even more.

It is incredibly absurd that in that amount of time I'm still almost 3K shards away from buying the first character.

Is this a way from the developers to try to get you buy the characters with real money?

Sorry, but can you explain why grinding will kill this game, instead of the broken code and bugs that come with that, the hackers, the toxic community or the lack of balance? what are your arguments for that?

  • Are you sure you know what "%" means? Oo

Other than that, thanks for sharing.

  • @QueenSaccharine said:

I've seen many complaints about killer perks for endgame like No Way Out, Blood Warden, NOED, etc. and while I've seen plenty of arguments for and against these perks being reworked, I think there's a survivor perk that much more desperately needs reworked for both killer mains' and survivor mains' sake, Left Behind.

Left Behind means that unless you're so unlucky that the hatch spawns right in front of the killer, you get a free escape. You don't even have to do anything all game; watch your teammates die, never play remotely risky, hide from the killer all game and tap gens to avoid idle crows when the killer is on the other side of the map. Do that, and you can escape in 90% of your matches, simply because you know where your free win is and the killer doesn't. You could even bring a key every game to ensure that you still get the hatch even if the killer kicks it closed.

Beyond newbie Bills and people going for the adept achievement, the people who run Left Behind are always the worst players in the match as they don't help out their teammates at all and may never once encounter the killer yet still get a free win. If I'm playing survivor and you're my teammate running this perk, I hate you. If I'm playing killer and you're running this perk, I feel bad, because even though I got a 3k which is a technical win, I didn't get to sacrifice the survivor who more than likely deserved it the most. And any time someone with Left Behind does escape (which is inevitable), every single one of their teammates complains in the postgame chat because they also know that the worst player got a free win from a single perk available to everyone. It's horrible for everyone except the people running the perk.

This is the same reason why everyone hates MMR and the devs are reworking it. It rewards playing selfishly and defining a "win" as whether or not you and only you escape at any cost, when survivor is an inherently team game and survivors should be encouraged and rewarded for playing altruistically. Your solo queue teammates shouldn't be doing things like self-caring for 32 seconds right in front of you while you're trying to quickly heal them, then ignore you when you need healed, just because they want survivor to be a single player experience.

Even if it's rather uncommon to see this perk being run, this is the one survivor perk that I think definitely needs reworked entirely. I think it would be healthy. Maybe make it so instead of seeing the hatch's aura, you can unlock the hatch without a skeleton key at the cost of sacrificing a perk slot. It would only work if the killer kicked the hatch closed and left, and you found where it was. That seems fair to me, even if it would still be a selfish perk, but I'd like to hear other people's suggestions for reworks too.

Well, first of, i used to run left behind, because i only play solo.

So in half the games someone either dcs or hook suicide before more than one gen is done, giving the killer a free win. Then 2 things can happen. You can still try to fight, and if that doesnt work, you can go for the hatch, via left behind. Or you can just run up to the killer and hook suicide yourself, which i sometimes do when this happens and i dont run left behind. Why play a match were i wont escape anyway because one of my teammates dont like the map or killer? A waste of time. The posibility of the hatch keeps me going then.

Also, while i run this perk (no, actually clairvoyance now), i do gens, i help my teammates, but yes, i avoid getting hooked, and are often blamed for it, even though i am in chases with the killer but since most killers are not used to getting juked anymore, i often escape a chase unhooked. Yet, i am blamed for that, even though i wasted the same amount of time with the killer than everyone else.

So, your sterotypes of users of certain perks are just stupid and wrong, because how i am the worst player if 2-3 others are gen allergics that dont touch gens at all, or dc because the map didnt spawn them beside a gen?

Also, since Clairvoyance is far superior to left behind, since it has a 64 meter range. And yes, i will keep it, because otherwise, i spent too much time trying to die to get a decent game.

  • @Laluzi said:

It'd be easy to build a net that captures blatant cheating (the kind where survivors hook and unhook themselves 15 times per second and fly around the map spamming animations, or the killer is a flying Ghostface with machine gun hatchets), but subtle cheating is much harder to catch because it falls within the parameters of what can already happen normally in DBD. You'd need to run an extensive list of if/elseifs every second to make sure that player speed matches perks and powers, buffs and cooldowns are lasting as long as they should and no more or less, and that nobody is affected by perks that aren't supposed to be in play, and that kind of overhead would slow down the game - not necessarily a great idea when it's already so strapped for performance.

It'd be much simpler if you could run a check to make sure all the values and conditions look okay only when an effect activates, but cheaters can alter the base values as well as inappropriately apply buffs to themselves, and that necessitates the costly constant checks. That said, they really should enforce that timers and cooldowns have very specific possible values and can never fall outside default/addon configurations, because that one should be way easier to detect without having to constantly spam checks - if the killer is stunned for a minute after a Head On, or the survivor's Jigsaw box takes 10 minutes to search, someone is cheating and that should be visible to the system immediately.

So, if a survivor stays exhausted for 4 minutes, the game detects a hack and aborts? Not quite that easy, actually. There are several timers depending on action or inaction, and those could still be messed with.

Would still consider smash hit better than either since, as the original point was, it can't be disabled entirely at the beginning of a match.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2941153#Comment_2941153

My argument is that hex perks have a MASSIVE risk to pair with their lukewarm-to-decent reward, while exhaustion perks are a much more minor risk vs a decent to great reward. You could argue a perk like devour hope has a massive reward at its highest levels, but the survivors not only can disable it before it gets any momentum, the momentum itself warns survivors to get rid of it. Similar issue with Pentimento, which is why going for the 5 stack on that is pretty much a surefire way to lose games.

Not at the beginning maybe, but at the time YOU come to use it, all pallets might already be gone, so it is disabled just the way a hex is.

And if the hex aspect was the point, why did you choose the weakest hex perk compared to the strongest exhaustion perk? That seems deliberate, you know.

Yes, hexes can be found, but its not too seldom that smash hit, balance landing or even lite dont do anything, depending on the map and the game progress. But there are also games where hexes are found so late, they already changed the outcome of the game, which is a factor you choose to ignore.

I have a hard time considering third seal and dead hard anywhere near each other in terms of potency but sure.

And if you change third seal to either ruin or devour hope and dead hard vs smash hit?

  • since they block aurareading while trees don´t, yeah, thats almost likely.

  • stealthplay is the most fun part of the game, and too many maps have that aspect disabled already. Swamps have to be dark.

I do kinda get it. Legion making Survivors mend does make the game take longer... but like... how is that bad? I'd rather be in a long pretty even Legion match than end up against a killer of any description who decides to tunnel and camp and get somebody out of the game asap. At least with Legion, I'll get to actually play the game since their power encourages not tunneling or camping.

Also as far as people playing them goes... I personally quite like M1 killer gameplay and looping. Problem is that it is nowhere near fast enough to be competitive. Legion fixes that problem by having deep wounds that buys them time for their M1 gameplay.

In generell, i like it when a match takes longer, because more things happen or happen in a different way. However, with legion its different.

Think of the lord of the rings (the book!) but with another 100 pages of the Shire...no, longer is not better if it extends the thinks you would rather skip in the first place.

I feel like NOED boosts kill rates by quite a bit, since it's DH for Killers. That's definitely a perk that should be trashed alongside DH.

Also, do devs really pay that much attention to kill rates? Because it seems like a very arbitrary metric to balance the game around. After all, AFAIK Pig has one of the highest kill rates, yet we all know she's bottom of the barrel.

It is at least their stated balance goal, so i would think they pay attention. However, i do think kills or escapes alone are not a good metric for balance in this game at all, but its the one they use so far.

  • @CausticMisery said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2943411#Comment_2943411

Yes. Ideally, it wouldn't even exist.

Imagine a world without Dead Hard. M1 Killers actually feel sonewhat viable, as they only have to run Survs for 1-2 loops instead of 3-4. And Survivors get more perk variety, because instead of feeling obligated to run DH every game because it's OP, everyone gets to run their own little favorite Exhaustion perk. Instead of 4 DH's per game, you'd see Sprint Burst, Lithe, Overcome, Balanced, hell maybe even Smash Hit! Thus making the game more fun and unpredictable for everybody.

    However, consider all the tears.

Because kill rates, that are above the goal the devs said for game balance anyway, would rise, leading to nerfs to all the killers. (as it should be, since there is a stated balance goal).

I, while a survivor main, play both sides anyway (but almost never run dh), so usually i win and lose equally on balance changes, and so dont mind.

  • Well, i just had the most boring game i ever had with a legion.

But it wasnt even the legions fault, my fellow survivors were just stupid.

Basicly, the killer would hit us all, and before they got to a gen, they would not only mend, but fully heal up. Again, and again, and again. At the same time, the legion didnt get much downs. so, nothing really happend in this game at all. After about 30 minutes, with 2 hooks and one gen done, i just gave up and went afk.

No white glyph challenge. Dude was on death hook. Survivors played like trash. I capitalised on every mistake, even went the other side of the map to give them a breather. No totems were done and I was running the perks to activate totems once hooked. A 3K and the last survivor injured AND on death hook. 3000 more bloodpoints than me. I took a BP sacrifice offering. There is no conceivable or logical or digitally mathematical way he could have gotten more BP.

The bloodpoints awarded are not based on result, but on process. If a suvivor playes process-oriented, he will get a lot of bloodpoints. I get more bloodpoints than the killer in a lot of my matches, even if i dont escape. I would have expected him to do totems, though. But unhooking, healing and workin on gens with others gives lots of bp.

Also, its easy to lose bp as killer. A lot of points are in the hooks. So if a survivor dies on first hook (maybe because he suicides because his team is steamrolled) you just lose out on a lot of points. If your chases are short, you dont get much points for that. If you dont need to destroy gens, there you lose points that are not much but add up. Also, you lose bp for camping, for survivors that escape chases, and such.

I cant say anything for your match here, but i can easily see that happening. In fact, killers that just destroy the survivors in a short time often end up with fewer points that killers with no kill in a long game.

  • I play only solo survivor, and in most games the killer gets teabagged in the end, even if he lost because he was playing "fair", with neither camping, slugging nor tunneling. Yet, the survivors are toxic. Yeah, its the killers fault, i see that now after your post.

  • Yeah, you depend on stupid opponents. a bubba or a billy that put the survivor in the basement, i dont go near that unless i hear the heartbeat elsewhere.

If i am the one down there, i try to warn my teammates and buy them all the time i can by struggling to the end, while they hopefully do gens.

  • Just a quick question..fair for whom?

The only thing that angers me is the tryhard people that tunnel for the 4k, and then start crying that their games aren´t fun anymore because they reached sweatlord-territory in the mmr.

  • Just had another hacker. A Deathslinger who slugged the whole team inside of 2 minutes, and when he hooked me on the first hook of the game, i was instantly sacrificed. I reported ingame, but again, i have no video. So tell me, is your reporting system doing anything about this?

  • @xBlitzAce1989x said:

I don't do anything if I'm the last Survivor. I usually have a key and I trail the Killer to hatch, let them close it, and then I escape after they walk away.

the thing is what happend to me in several games. If only 2 survivors are left, i still try to do gens. However, often the other guy gets slugged for the 4k, and either the killer is camping his corpse (like 2 ghostfaces i encountered) or they are looking for me. If they look for me (and the other survivor was doing gens and not just hidding) i pick them up, and try to do gens again. however, if i dont come for that survivor (because the killer camps him, or he wasn´t doing anything anyway), several times i had it that the killer would pick him up, wiggle free, and the survivor would then lead the killer to me, and is let go for that.

Funny thing though, if i fell for the corpse-camping, the killer would just kill both. If i dont, he lets the other one go to get me. Thats often the case with killers that slug for a 4k, at least on the servers i am playing.

  • @Steel_Eyed said:

    It’s a map for stealth.

For stealth, or for hidding? If you are on one of the gens on the road, there is nothing to stealth. nowhere to go to, and nothing to break line of sight and juke the killer. I prefer the stealth game, but so far, i dont see it in this map (but i only played there twice so far, so thats why i am asking for your opinion on this)

  • @Coordi said:

Are you familiar with the reporting process? In game reports are mandatory, and support is able to receive additional evidence (such as a recording) to assist with the report. Reports are vital, and I wanted to appreciate in advance if you've already taken those steps!

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/kb/articles/139-game-rules

The thing is: i enounter more and more hackers (usually other survivors, while i play solo survivor, but also a few killers). However, i dont have the feeling that reporting without a video leads anywhere, and since i dont make videos of my games (performance is bad enough as it is for me), i dont bother reporting anymore. Your reporting system and process needs a serious update, as well as your servers collecting the data needed, not the user who happens to report them.

  • They were actually my go-to killers, but i have played hag only about 3 time after the Hex;TotH- nerf, because it destroyed my favorite playstyle with her. i never used to hookcamp with her, but now i feel thats the only way she is viable, because her setup time is too high considered how easily it is broken, as well as hit-and-run tactics dont work since CoH.

Doctor is still ok, but he is so very mapdependent thats not even funny. I hear the reworked myers map is now killer sided, but not on side of this killer. Although, if i take a map offering to midwich or the game, i rarly lose it.

    But thats just me.

Ah better don't take stuff like "straight movement" into your mouth. Because the only people asking for a straight movement are usually Christians or homophobs to fight against the evil LGBTq. Straight people don't have such a movement because I never hear of children being physically abused and bootet from there homes for being straight. Or getting a beating behind a club for being straight. Or not getting that promotion because your not a real man because you're straight. This list could go on and on for a while but that's all stuff that deonst happen to you because you are straight but stuff that happens to so many people all over the world for. Being gay, trans, bi, etc.

That's why straight movement sounds silly and honestly feels like a kick to the face

Is being a woman a political ideology? Because women have had to push for legislation for equal rights, against discrimination, and even rights over what can/can't be done to their own bodies.

What about being a race other than white? Non-white people have had to push for legislation for equal rights and against discrimination.

It's not political to be a woman or non-white or LGBT+.

Again, being a woman is not. The womens movement that does push for legislation is.

It's that some people see calling it as just political minimizes it's importance and obfuscates that It's about human rights.

But even having human rights is an ideology. Ask the survivors of the german holocaust. Ask the Japanese Community in the US during the second World War. Ask the refugees of the ukraine, the opposition in China, Russia or Turkey. Human rights are no law of nature, it is a political decision, which becomes obvious, if you look at the contrys that choose to ignore them if it suits them.

  • Ok, maybe i missunderstand this, but how is it not a political ideology?

Dont get me wrong, to be LGBT is just how people are, BUT the LGBTQ+-movement? It tries to push legislation for equal right, against discrimination and acts of hate, as well as trying to define what it is. And where hate and discrimination begins and end is a matter of ideology (at least as how i understand that term as a non-native speaker), and taking influence on legislation is a political act, is it not?

If thats not a political ideology, what is it then?

Visually, probably the closest character to me IRL is Bill (he has more hair than me though, and a shorter beard) but I've always preferred female avatars in games.

I...don't disagree with all of the rest, but I also like to think of it this way.

    • Horror has always been something of a haven for LGBTs, as well as the rest of us that don't always gel perfectly with mainstream society.
    • DbD is also quite popular with LGBT gamers.
    • Including a gay character is thus simply playing to your audience - much like including a large breasted nekomimi in an ecchi anime is playing to that audience.
    • If it encourages more people to play and spend money, that's fantastic - because I do want this game to succeed.

I hope that BHVR give politics and religion a wide miss though, because that's where you start alienating people.

But to me, my political, moral, social and all-togehter worldview define me far more than my sexuality. And i really believe i am not the only one. Why is representation only important if it is based on skin tone and sexual preference?

I run the game on a phenom II x4 955 with a 1050ti, and up till the last chapter, i didnt have problems. Now i have.

@Topic: I doubt they refund you. I was originally playing on a plattform the game was advertised for, and then they just cut the support of the game for a system they sold it to. They told me it wasn´t supported anymore, even though it was still listed on the steam shop under supported systems. Of course they corrected the shop entry, so they dont have to support the system they sold the game to.

  • Again, a rework that destroys stealthplay. The game is slowly turning away from the way i like to play it. This, together with the game freezes since the last chapter, it might just not be worth the trouble anymore for me.

  • I had a game where i escaped a nemesis, still healthy but infected, to turn a corner and run into a zombie....so i turn around to run the other way..into the other zombie...some stealthy ninja zombies..

also, a game where i played as hag with both no-teleport-addons, and had trapped the pallets. People tried to run through my phantasm only to get downed and not understanding what happened.

Last but not least, the 3 man teabagging at the exit gate, i spot the forth, down him with noed (they teabagg even more, but let me hang him, and blood warden kicks in...its fun when 2 try to run through the barred exit...sadly, not enough hooks, so i could down them all, but one still escaped.

    This.

When people say "Where are the new meta perks?" what they are really asking is "How come nothing has come out that is stronger than Dead Hard?", at which point you should rightfully start laughing uproariously.

You really think dead hard is the weakest meta perk?

  • @TragicSolitude said:

I like that this issue suddenly keeps coming up. I'm curious why people are just now noticing that DS's skill check is a broken gatekeeper in a game riddled with performance issues. I'd even be happy with the devs just making the skill check bigger so that the performance issues impact it less. When the skill check is so small, the slightest blip means you're screwed. On console, slight blips are a good day.

I'm disappointed that so far there's been no statement to let people know whether or not this is being looked into.

Well, suddenly the performance issues increase with every patch. I used to play this game easily, but since the last patch, not anymore. My game freezes for a time, especially if the killer appears or some "special event" happens. And if such things increase, then more skill checks are missed. And thats why.

  • Hmm, the only one of them i run in my builds is actually iron will, but thats mainly because i like to juke killers and lose them instead of just extending chases.

However, those perks are used because most killers use the same strategys, like camping, tunneling and slugging. 2 of the top 3 perks affect those situations, with the top perk being able to help with camping and tunneling through helping to extend chases. But there only a few other perks to affect this situations, and could even be detrimental to the user, like no mither. So i am not astonished at all that the top used perks are adressing issues with 90% of the killers.

  • I had that situation several times in the past few weeks, too.

I think slugging for a 4k is valid, BUT the problem is when it dosnt work out, and the killer lets the slugged survivor go to help him find the one he couldnt find otherwise. Thats working with the killer, but reporting does nothing if you dont take video evidence and report it in a secret way not obvious in the game itself.

    @MaTtRoSiTy said:

May I remind you that the hatch is 100% for survivors benefit and it forces killers to slug for a 4k if they wish to.

I disagree. its for the benefit of both players. Without hatch, killers cant initiate egc, and some of us remember how long a game could take that way.

  • but is this considered working with the killer, or is it not?

  • I loved that map too. It had high kill rates, true, but if you could juke a killer, you could do it here all day. I miss it too.

And, in my opinion, we need some more maps, especially indoor maps.

Behavior forcing killers to play like chicken sh*ts lol. This game had so much potential, it's pretty much the only game in it's category. But still they managed to destroy it just because they've always wanted to please survivors, balance around rank 20s, second chance perks etc. Cuz survivors are the ones who buy cosmetics more right?

The thing is, the devs aim for a 50% kill rate. and, with the exception of nurse, all killers are above that kill rate.

They dont cater to survivors, they just have no idea how to balance their game, because they want to avoid the one thing nessesary to do so: split swf from solo queue, and balance both game modes sepereatly, so the solos become stronger compared to the killer, and the killer can become stronger compared to swf.

No, i dont think its intend, i think its incompetence.

This is BS. Gen times aren't fixed because people cry that doing gens is boring. Yet BHVR refuses to even add a secondary objective or reduce map sizes to patrolling gens is easier. And those same survivors that cry about gens being boring seem to do nothing but work on gens like their literal lives depend on it.

Chases and using your perks/items are the fun parts of the game. That's where the focus should be. Not holding M1 in a stationary position at a gen or staying with 10 meters of a hook until a survivor finally dies on their first hook. DbD can be better. DbD should be better.

You should only talk for yourself, and don´t state your opinion as fact. Running in circles is, for me and some others, the boring part of the game. We like it more as a hide-and-seek game rather than a game of tag. The game is moving toward chases and away from stealth play to much anyway. In my opionion, there should be several ways to play the game.

Some killers, you cant hide from, some killers, you cant loop. If every game just resolved around chases, it gets pretty boring fast, at least to me.

Introduce communications in game, discord not needed, buffing solos to SWF (thereby nerfing killers until then buffing later) not needed.

Balance around a fair playing field of everyone having communications.

So, do you think they have the competence to build a real-time-translation-communication? Because otherwise it wont help with all the russians that dont even speak english on all those european matches.

Or is it just a "this is not my problem, therefore it is no problem"-Moment?

How can people miss Hawkins. I can't remember a single good thing about the Map

The map was quite good for stealth, which is an option more and more rare in this game. I know thats because a part of the playerbase dont like it, but for some, like me, its the reason to play the game.
