People complained after the ptb where boons were introduced. The devs nerfed them pre launch. They complained after launch. They nerfed CoH again saying that it might be nerfed more if needed. So what is sad exactly?
They've listened to the complaints and adjusted the perk. Not in the way some people want, but they have been working on it. To me the perk is entirely overrated and only becomes an issue when you have a 4 man swf.
i actually agree. In solo, i had people break all totems before i could even apply CoH. (ok, maybe due to a challenge, because it doesnt happen often, but it does happen).
so, what we need is an swf indicator so killers can avoid CoH in an swf, since you identified that as the main issue, do you agree?

well camping is the reason we run those perks CoH is only effective against 3 killers. dead hard to me isnt really a problem but i do know that a lot of people hate it. But when you get hook camped 6 games in a row your literally forced to run BT, DS, DH and UB
+ that doesnt make any sense hook camping is a horrible strategy THAT DOESNT WORK if the survivors do gens but they dont the last game against the hook camping nemesis I DID 2(i nearly did 3 one got interrupted at 95% when we managed to unhook one but he hooked me next to the gen and continued camping) out of those 3 gens while my other 3 teammes well idk what they were doing
If thats the reason, then would you be ok with some changes? Like dh and CoH only activate if the killer is around a newly hooked survivovr for more than 20 seconds? they activate for the rest of the game, but only after that circumstances are met. Since you claim they are the reason to run this perks, it would be ok, wouldnt it?

Well, just give the killer their 4k. The probably had 4-5 miserable matches before this one and need this 4k to regain their killer instinct, lest they abandon the game because they lost all hope.
The point is, as a solo survivor, you have just as much bad games. I had a game where one player dced as soon as he saw the killer, the second one just went afk, and the last survivor and i played a 2v1, and we even managed to do all 5 gens. Yet, the killer didnt cut us any slag.
Between dc´s, hook suicide and all-out-bad teammates we are also expected to throw the game if we are one of the last 2 players? At that point, its better to stop playing.

Its the spaghetti code.
The simplest way I can explain to you that dbd almost entirely client sided, next to nothing on server side. What does it mean?
It means that client is the king, there are no server validation for almost anything.
As a client you can tell the game, "now I am flying or run at 500% speed, or do the gen with one tap", in every other game would be a server check, " is it possible, is it valid action" , and the game wouldn't let it happen. There are no such checks in dbd, dbd is the exception, whatever the hacker tell the game it will accept it without question. There you have it, this is how hatchet ghostface was possible and might be still.
This is why dbd so weak to cheaters. No anti cheat can protect this spaghetti code.
Sorry.
to be fair, the game was designed to be a p2p-game, server were only used for matchmaking. Thats why people wanted dedicated servers, but what they got was...something different.
-
the thing is...i had situations where the killer slugs the other guy, and then camps the body. i saw it and didnt come to him, so he picked up the other survivor after a time, let him go and he lead him to me. They killed me and the killer let the other one go, dispite the fact i did most gens alone and was maxed out on altruism.
They then acted as if it was my fault, but we all know had i come to pick the other one up he would have just killed us both anyway. You cant win in this situation.

Survivors have so many stealth perks for avoiding sight, making sound, and now even blood trails and scratch marks. A Nurse can’t chase or down what she can’t find. Even without perks, lockers are available every match (to avoid BBQ or other perks).
Mind games aren’t ever meant to be 100% against any killer, or are chases designed to be indefinite. Nurse changes how you evade, which other killers do as well.
Any exhaustion perk that gets you stealth against her is excellent. Only Smash Hit would be a bad exhaustion perk against her usually.
Yeah, lockers. Believe it or not, you can actually juke a Nurse attack by jumping in a locker. And (gasp) even have enough time to jump out while she is in fatigue! And of course, blocking aura reading perks.
Lightburn is an option, even if difficult to achieve. As are pallets.
Nurse is here to stay. Hopefully she doesn’t get any more base kit changes.
To be fair, you cant just go stealth in this game anymore. A lot of maps that been reworked had their stealth aspectes heavily nerfed, like the game, where you can even soo through some of the stairs now, and the upper part is mostly a big open space.
While you can break los, there is nowhere to go after that, so you are found again in an instant.
What steath technic do you suggest vs tinkerer? Not working on gens?
-
Well, if i cant get a fair game as a killer, i dont play it. So, if at a start of the game survivors make the extra effort to be annoying or disrespectful, they can do their gens in peace, and i gladly lower my mmr in the process. I dont lobby dodge, i just dont play with them.
There are several things in here: SWF is a huge factor, because if you play a 3 or 4 swf, you get no hook. 2 people bodyblock after you evaded their flashlight, while the last sabots the hook.
I had games with 3 gens popping before i could take the first down, because the game has a lot of pallets now.
as a killer, i feel that a lot of games are just more hit or miss than before. so the average of 2kill 2 escapes are there, but more often then not coming from 4k and 3e games, rather than from 2k 2e games. But a 0k game usually means you were highly outskilled, and coulndt do anything at all, which often is very frustrating.
The devs once said their matchmaking system was good at predicting the outcome of the game. I doubt thats a good thing, because i can easily predict the outcome of a 10hour killer vs a 500 hours swf team, or the 1000k killer vs the noob team. What i want is the games that are soo close in skill that the system cant predict the outcome (or predicts it wrong) because decissions the player makes are just that impactful.
So, i know when i am outmatched, and no, i just try playing something else on the second monitor while i derank on the first.

I am literally gonna quit this game cuz of tunneling meta, what's the point of even trying to play this game, if you get hooked first you're the first to die? and bt ds and uk are useless against a killer who commits to you for literally no reason. Like how desperate are killers for a win? rank just reset and Iam getting facecamped in ash 4 by 2-3-4k hrs killers ######### is that #########? Am I not allowed to play this game cuz I picked survivor over killer? I lost like ######### 20 games in a row and for some reason I get even worst killers every game...
Well, how about you play killer for a while and show them how it is done? Do some videos, show them how you win without tunneling and camping on a higher mmr, and you might reform them. Because tunneling and camping isnt even fun for a lot of killers. Just show them, man!

If it is not earth, its a least walking distance, because thats the way demo comes and goes. Xenomorph would have to walk a very long way. Took Ripley 57 Years to go back.
-
While i like this game, i dont like chases that much. As survivor, i play the stealth-approach and try to lose the killer in a chase, rather than extending the chase till the game is over.
Thats why i like killers that dont chase normaly either.
I like hag, but she is very hard if survivors know what they are doing.
Doctor is great, i dont break god pallets, but when survivors realize my shock hit them in time and they are trapped by that pallet, its so great.
Silent wraith can still grap survivors of gens, its always fun.
Same is true for no tr-meyers, at least with a decent map offering.

I'm not OP but to answer you're question; probably not. However it's easy to understand how it can happen.
What winds me up about it is that it serves no purpose in the game the macro flashlighting; it's purely for trolling. If it was an integral part of the game that caused seizures then I could see the potential dilemma but the fact is it's not. Something used for trolling that's gone on for years and easy to fix is causing this. BHVR as usual consumed by silence
The point was the claim made, because epileptic episodes can come from more than just flashing lights, like gaming sessions going on for too long. I know people having seizures from raiding too long in wow. By sheer player numbers, i think a game like wow would have much more cases than dbd ever could have.
The other point is that i sincerly belive a lot of people in this thread just hop onto the waggon to get something that they find annoying patched out of the game, rather than being genuine concerned about health issues. And dont get me wrong, i find it annoying myself and dont care if its gone. but i do care about people feigning sympathy while just ridding their own agenda.

Me, my cousin and the rest of my family knows that he has epilepsy. We warned him numerous times before but as stubborn as he is, he continues on playing video games. This hasn't been a problem for years because he choose his games carefully and he plays on his own time. I was downstairs when I heard a loud bang coming from upstairs, so I checked upstairs to see what's going on. I was completely in shock when I opened my cousin's door because I saw him on the ground twitching and foaming. I was scared as hell but I knew what I had to do in this situation, so I put him on his side, so he doesn't choke because his tongue could block his airway because he was unconscious and that relaxes the tongues' muscles.
I screamed my mom to call for an ambulance and she did as fast as she could. They arrived quickly and I did whatever I could to assist my cousin. I will not let him die.
Last time my cousin woke up from the hospital, he remembers when the survivors turned on and off their flashlights really fast. I didn't know about this and neither did he. I did some research and to my conclusion, it was survivors on PC using a macro program to use their flashlights at inhumane speeds.
When I got home, I made this post out of frustration. As you can see, I was pissed off, but I really don't know who to blame here... the survivors or BHVR? I couldn't blame my cousin because he didn't know, and I couldn't blame myself for this because I never knew and I never had any of this in all of my matches.
Someone said that I'm a veteran player? This is not true. I barely played dead by daylight and I stopped playing for almost a month now, as I owned this game since December 2021 on Christmas. I don't find it fun anymore and now that I experienced this horrid event, I'll never put a single thought into this game for the rest of my life. I'll occasionally jump on the DbD forums just to read, post or comment, but that's about it.
Thanks for clarifying. I think the only one here that is at fault is the devs, not for allowing it, but for not having a warning about this at the game in any way.
I hope your cousin will be well again soon. And if it helps, from my experience, even avoiding triggers dont always help. I had 2 friends who both where epileptics, and while one of them avoided all possible triggers (he never drank alcohol, never went out dancing, never played "hectic" video games, and wouldnt even ride a bike) he had just as many severe episodes as the other friend, who drank alcohol and did went out a lot (however, when she had her episodes, she usually was much more exposed, for example it happend to her from traffic lights in the evening while she was riding a bike, leading to her having an accident, or while she was dancing in a club. Thats why you always had to take notice of what she was doing).

Really doesn't matter what you think, honestly. Courts will inevitably decide and there is really no precedent for behavior to win if it goes to that. Sorry. Behavior is objectively at fault. Your entire logic relies on this idea people with epilepsy cannot play any game at all, which is a lie. Why is this game different from every other game? Because the devs cannot program? The game objectively causes more issues for epilepsy than any other game and must legally have a warning, as any ride would. I'd just put the warning rather than risk my rinky dink game company going to court and also getting dragged through the mud in media.
"HE SHOULD HAVE KNOWN IT WOULD GIVE HIM A SEIZURE BECAUSE ALL GAMES GIVE PEOPLE WITH PHOTO SENSITIVITY SEIZURES!" You have given zero logic as to why a person would assume DBD has worse photo sensitive issues than any other game. Your entire argument relies on the idea photo sensitive people cannot play games and should not and should know that when that isn't true. I have no idea why you speak so passionately about a condition you clearly have no understanding of at all. If you don't want to reiterate, then don't come back to the thread. It's clear most people disagree with you and aren't going to agree, and you're just digging this hole deeper and deeper. And yes, you get accomodation for neglect which this objectively is.
Ok, i have to ask. do you have anny proof that this game causes more issues with epilepsy than other games? Do you have numbers to proof that, or did you just make that up? Since you says its objectively, there should be some proof, shouldn´t it?

I'm okay with seeing numbers after games. I just wanna see if all this is really working. It all feels like very disgusting to me right now the way it is.
What would that accomplish? Lets say you can see the mmr, and it doesnt match. It happens because they prioritize matchmaking times over fair matchmaking. So you see the mmr didnt match, what is the consequence? There really is none, because they dont want to change the system anyway. So what would you do? Stop playing? Trying to force the devs to make your version of mmr real? Thats actually all reasons for the devs not to show you your mmr.

So, you just seperate a think in the discussion which you cannot seperate in the game. Yes, that makes sense.

Between this forum and Steam forums, I've had conversations with over a hundred people that quit due to MMR.
Myself, it's why I quit playing. The matches were almost instantly absolute sweat fests. MMR changed the game, especially for killers. There used to be a few sweaty matches mixed with laid back fun matches. MMR laid waste to those laid back matches. It is a poor way to measure skill and matchmaking.
Added to game balance (looking at you BCOH) and hacker increases and the game is unbearable.
Yeah, the game went bad the moment people were not being carried by bad matchmaking anymore. Was soo much easier when you just could stomp noob solo survivors.

You mean when they nerf the used addons and buff the meaningless addons to still be meaningless? i guess you can technically call it a buff lol!
They don't listen. There are glaring issues with map and loop design and plenty of ways to fix the game but they are as they said.. "to much work" so they just bandaid everything and nerf killers to force this stupid 50% kills escape rate that is calculated by including day 1 survivors who will always die to a day 1 killer.
This. The kill rate for i think all killers is still above that 50% mark, so killers are fine. Its as simple as that.
Either they wont take the effort or dont have the recources to manage the game properly.

Thanks for your opinions. Dont forget I'm talking about Solo Q and you can't communicate with your teammates. In SWF 99% doors can make sense here and there, I agree.
Even if I open a gate right away, there's still more than enough time to save the hooked guy. The success of the unhooking depends on borrowed time, DS, the skills of the survivors/killers and the distance to the door. Especially if the hunted person is dead on hook, it is better to open the gates immediately.
To Bloodwarden: This perk is extremely rarely used in my matches and yet so many guys are afraid of it. And when a killer plays with it, it's usually very predictable. 99% doors kill more people than they save them from blood warden.
So, and do you go to save that guy even though the killer has noed and noone has found the totem yet?
beause with the open gate, there is no time to search for it.
If the door is open at that point, i will just leave and let you or whomever die on the hook. Because way too many times i saved people, just to die on my first hook because there was no time left to save me.

I am not sure if this is a hacker thing or not, but i had several games as a killer where the game was basicly over and i had won, then suddenly i get disconnected. This happend several times now.
However, since i am a survivor main, i play most of my games on the survivor side, and i never had such a strange disconnect then, only when i play killer and only if i basicly won, never in a game i lost. Coincidence?

They dont have to be. Only because you are doing one thing frequently does not mean that you can do the same thing on the other side and have to be good at it.
E.g. I am pretty good at eating, but this does not make me a good Cook.
I am also very knowledgeable in a Trading Card Game, because I am organizing and Judging this TCG. But that does not mean that I have to be a good player as well.
Yes. The question is, would you disagree with a group of good players on game balance, just because you know the game mechanics?
-
Usually, people only run circle of healing, and thats not worth the risk of noed for me. If more people would run shadow step as well, it would be different, because the amont of times i lose a killer easy while in range is just wow.
-
Yes, but at this point you decide for everyone which part of manipulating the game setup is ok and "fun for both sides". Believe me, being a stealth player and not being able to stealth because the dim-lit corner you try to juke the killer with is brightly lit on his side is not fun for both side, just for one.
you just care for the aspekt that affects your favorite way to play, and take every advantage you can in the other ones. You do the same thing as stretched res, just to another game mechanic instead of mindgame-chases.

https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2817611#Comment_2817611
So it is possible with filters to make stretch res look good? I never gave it a try like that, when I tried it was on default.
But yeah, I cannot stop using detail filters, and more brightness, it is amazing how much it really changes, makes the game look somehow way better, as if that was the intended way of playing it, I used to say that dbd looks like a ps2 game with filters at least looks like a ps3/ps4 game.
But it also gives an unfair advantage, because stealth is part of the gameplay, and with good filters, you basicly nullify that part of the game, the same way stretched res nullyfied mindgames. I know, for some people the game is just about the chases, but not for all of us.

It used to be spirit because of her stupid Mechanics, Now it's Huntress and Blight. Against huntress you never know if she'll hit you behind the corner. Because of the latency and hitbox sizes it's almost impossible to move right and not get hit
Blight has so many exploits you never feel safe. Good blight can hit you almost on every tile and there is no good counterplay for that.
Terrible flawed and boring killers
To be fair, survivors just running in circles around one loop just to run to the next loop because you play no anti-loop-killer is also boring, and there is not much those killers can do about it.
-
But visibility in this game is part of the gameplay, because things like stealth exist for both survivors and killers. Actually, nobody should be able to temper with the visibility (and gamedetails. nothing is worse than hidding in a bush that is not even there for the other guy). But i doubt it will be changed. At least they fix streched res, which helps with looping. But i would like to have some decent stealth gameplay back.
-
As far as i know each killer should have his own MMR. But i notice it too, if i try to take a new killer (or an old one i just never played) i get swf teams that would hardly (if ever) beat with my mainkiller.
Also, does rank reset affect mmr? Because after rank reset, the games are much more unbalanced, until ranks got sorted out again. I notice that later in the month the games are far more balanced than just after rank reset.

Gotta say I find it difficult to argue against. Repeatedly getting brightly lite day maps and swf in a row seem to go together
As a stealth survivor let me tell you: there are only brightly lite maps with next to no cover left after the reworks. Auto haven is well lit, red forest maps are way lighter, the game changed the hidding spots to god paletts.
Stealth in this game is heavily nerfed, because for a big chunk of the player base, chases are the only fun thing and what the game resolves around. Different oppinions are not considered anymore.

the problem about boons aren't their effects imo, but the fact that they can be spammed... i would gladly revert the CoH nerf, in return boons can be used only once during the trial... Add also the fact that they should be "divided" from each other (you have 2 boon perks? 2 totems are required instead of a single one with both effects). those perks should be high risks=high rewards
Actually, then boons and hexes should work similar. Start the game with 10 dull totems, and killer and survivors can bless them. But it takes the killer the same 16 seconds per totem that it does the survivors, and survivors can destroy a hex as fast as the killer can. Yes, there are 4 surviors, but killer hexes are mostly stronger than boon perks.
Why do you think the boons should be devided? Most people run only coh anyway, and dividing them only leads to the few people running more than one boon perk stopping it. But every boon perk beyond coh is one less of the ds/bt/dh meta, why would you encourage people playing more meta?
-
I think it might be the mmr actually working, at least for solo survivors. I play solo survivor mainly, and i got way better teammates. Potatoes still happen, but way less frequent. That means you can do rescues and stuff with actual experienced solo players, and i am sure the killer feels like they are swf.
-
whats dms?
-
I wonder why people leave. I play both sides, and for both sides solo, its the best i ever have played the game in the 4 years i been playing it. Maybe people just try other stuff?
-
The mainproblem is not which kind of mmr is used, the old one or the new one. The main problem is that queue times are prioritized, meaning at some point mmr is thrown overboard anyway. Thats when the 4k hour team gets the 15 hour teammate.
I had taken a break from the game just before sbmmr came into the game. But my experience is this: With the old mmr, i had a survival rate of about 75%, and potatoes in a lot of my games.
Nowadays, my would guess overall survival rate is higher (this is actually just a guess. I used to keep stats of my games, but havent done so since i came back), but even though i see potatoes once in a while, i am mostly matched with people actually contributing, leading to way less frustrating games, win or lose, because even the games i lose have most gens done, all 5 a lot of the time. Since i came back, i never had a game with no gen done at all, which happend under the old system.
-
Partygames are played with friends. Thus, SWF should have to bring their own killer.
-
first, a lot of people with ttv in their name are toxic, and i say this from both perspectives. I had ttv´s blocking me at the exit when the killer came, so he downed me, while they got out and stuff. As killer, they are often toxic af.
Also, i was never asked about my consent to stream any matches i am part of. That might be legal, sure, but its also legal to make the game for their viewers as boring as it can be.
-

So if you play well, neither BT nor DS does anything to you. If you go for your lovely strategies, thats your fault. Its amazing how oftern those threads pop up and never ever are those TEs thinking about why those perks are used so frequently, or make some false conclusion out of it.
But this kind of argument is also true for the likes of noed, yet people complain about it. But if they play well and do totems, noed does nothing at all.
Also, while you claim people dont consider why those perks are used, why dont you think about why killers have to apply such tactics to begin with?
Your argument is very onesided, it seems to me.
-
the thing is, when i started to play the game, i liked and still like the stealth-approach.
But most new or reworked maps are well lit, with few los-breakers, and even if you can break los you have nowhere to go without being seen again.
Hawkings was very good for stealth, and thus, very fun.

Hello, I'm always trying to do the rounds through campers, I'm slowly not having any fun anymore. There are perks that are too strong as a killer, e.g. the Nurse can teleport twice behind the other or the leatherface makes a one hit. There is also an op attachment for Huntress Ax which makes a one hit and that increases camping. The teamates are also braindead and get me off the hook when the killer is behind them. The ghost has a boost when it is visible too much. Today I met 99% campers in my rounds.
So you played about 100 games today? Wow, how long did it take?

It's not rocket science if you've got hundreds of hours on this game, at which point you'll likely be running kindred in SoloQ anyway, so you'll still have more information when someone is Hooked anyway. A Chase indicator only helps scrubs feel safe as Gen chads will just sit on them regardless already. And a Gen indicator is pointless as you should be sitting and spinning on gens regardless. Hell, if people feel "safe" that other people are on gens it's possible they may be more willing to do something like cleanse a Totem or open a Chest.
You know, that whole "The more people in a group, the less likely people are going to try to work as hard"
No way. I have lots of hours in the game, and while i like kindred and bound, i dont run them, because a lot of times i just want to kill myself on the hook if i do, and see what my teammates are doing all the time. In solo queue, there are just a lot of people not doing anything worthwhile. I had 2 games yesterday, one in which all others were dead within minutes, because the just tried to flashlight save one another the whole time (and failing to do so), another one where one guy was afk the whole time, but the 3 remaining players were good enough to all escape anyway. So much depends on your teammates in this game.
While i dont like the change (i like the lack of information and the tention and decisions that come with it), i think it is nessecary, because killer need help vs swf, and that cannot happen as long as the gap between swf and solo is that big.
While i would prefer they just seperate solo and swf (and balance them differently; if killer had a higher powerlevel in swf, there would be no need to dodge them), they will never do it, because whenever a balance change for swf comes, swf-players cry how they are punished for just playing with their friends. So buffing solo is the way to do, and information is the thing where you can buff solos without buffing swf, because swf has this information anyway.

The game is fine, in my opinion. Its my favorite map when playing doctor, or hag, or no tr meyers and wraith.
While they add lots of save pallets, they hughly nerfed stealth on this map, there are so few los-blocker on first floor, and even stairs are see-through now.
However, there are next to no windows, and once a pallet is down and broken, it doesnt come back. Also, if killers dont break doors, there are a lot of deadends for survivors to get trapped in while in a chase. Happens all the time.

Best thing is to watch back last Q&A about sbmm based on kills and escapes.
Short story, Patrick said someone who runs the killer for 5 gens end dies is zero skill while someone who does gens and escape is skill
Ok, i need a link to that. Because as far as i know, he said that skill leads to more escapes, and therefore escapes are a viable measurement. Which is completly different from what you claimed he said. So i need a source to verify your claim about what he was saying.
Also, i know that parts of the community think the game is only about chases and looping the killer, but it is not, as is evident in the stance the devs take here.

Maybe we could look at why people hate MMR instead of punishing them.
I'm not excusing smurfing, but it's really just indicative of a larger issue.
Also, maybe make the MMR actually determine skill.
But "because they like easy matches against less skilled opposition to just smash them" is not the way to to, no matter how many player want it.

Disagree with what? What I said wasn't an opinion.
You did not spend any Auric Cells on those masks. That's a fact. Why would they give you premium compensation for the removal of something you got for free?
6,000 Iridescent Shards is the equivalent of several dozen hours of playtime. That's more than enough for the removal of cosmetics that you didn't pay anything for but time.
But people might have spent auric cells on bubba because of the mask feature. Yes, i think that might only be for a minority, but it still might be.

If you can run a killer for 4 gens, there is a huge skill gap, and by staying in that chase he might learn something new.
But also, the killer could waste even more time finding a new target, just to be run by them just the same. So he basicly loses out for switching targets, because he might not even get that one kill.
Also, if you behave toxic towards the killer, he might just be willing to throw the game just to get you. I dont know if you do, but you might, and that would be a reason for this happening to you in many matches.

So, you compare someone playing as his job to the majority that just plays for fun? Also, if you go for top level, look at top level tournaments, and there killer dont stand much of a chance.

And you can remove the effect of coh when active, and half of the comments are about coh
But you see comments about it staying active and being reapplied after the killer destroyed it once. Unlike, you know, hex perks that are gone once cleansed.
