  • I could actually see a killer mime for sure. Not a fan of Paris itself though. Too cliche.

It's happened to me a few times as well. Once right in front of a Jake about to save me... I felt so bad, it looked like I intentionally killed myself right in front of him after he ran across the map to save me

Same has happened to me twice in the last few days. Went out of my way to mount a rescue only for the person to die right as I got to them as if I stepped on an invisible kill trigger.

  • Don't know if it was wholesome, but had another interesting moment today. Got Ormond resort, chosen by the Wraith I'm sure (I seem to always get Wraith on Ormond whenever "someone" burns that map). Very competitive game, lots of back and forth. Fun balanced with frustration. An even challenge.

A guy playing as Adam gets whacked, I unhook him. He does the teabag "heal me gesture" but for some reason I can't. The option simply isn't coming up, which has happened to me a few times (hey guys, can you look into this please). He points to me, then waves to himself. Dude, I CAN'T heal you. I obviously keep trying. I even wiggle my camera back and forth. I'm trying. It's not working. Let's go. Finally after a few minutes and him going in and out of a locker it's been "fixed" and I heal him. All good.

By the end he and I are the only ones left with one genny which the Wraith is aware of. We're working it together and the Wraith clobbers me. Adam gets up and immediately teabags a dozen times. Is this collusion? Was I being worked all game? He points to me on the hook. The Wraith comes by and stares me as I writhe, then looks over at Adam. Adam gleefully runs over and starts teabagging rapidly in front of me while the Wraith turns to watch him. "Don't get ME, let's both go laugh at this dying survivor together instead". At least that was the clear message that I was getting. "Wow, what a ######### traitorous sellout douchebag you are" I think, as Wraith watches his new buddy mock me. Thanks Adam, I guess this is some kind of payback for not healing you fast en- WHAM! The Wraith knocks him on his ass and brings him to a hook of his own. XD

  • I'm new, can someone explain SWF? I know that it means Survive With Friends, but why is there so much hate towards it?

I don't have a dog in the fight, I solo the game. Am I incorrect in understanding that SWF is a self-contained group of four buddies versus their fifth friend as the killer? Basically a private lobby? That's what I assumed it was. OR, are you saying that SWF means that groups of numbers up to four work together (through Discord in particular, I'm sure) and take on random, unrelated killers, thus coordinating in a way that makes the killer's life much more frustrating?

Or is it something else entirely?

  • I alternate between playing on the PC and playing on Switch Lite, arguably the least powerful platform on which to play the game. My anecdotal experience has been good, the game runs nice and smooth on both machines. One just lets me play in bed. :)

It's ridiculous how many terrible killers I see running around at rank 1 and 2 because it's so easy for them to win right now (or still earn pips even when they lose).

Here's my baseless belief: The average Survivor in any given rank is potato tier. There are enough Survivors in high ranks who REALLY shouldn't be that it becomes easy to just win as a low-tier Killer running a meme build against the average non-SWF Survivor team. This results in not good Killers moving up the ranks too and being in ranks they should not be as well. Basically, at high ranks, bad players still exist on both sides, and when bad players square off against bad players, the edge goes to the Killer because one bad Survivor can sink an entire team if the rest of the team isn't really good to make up for that. The issue is exacerbated when bad players run into GOOD opponents for obvious reasons.

    This is it, exactly.

I solo as a survivor (I solo as everything, my PC friends don't seem very interested in the game). Who I wind up with, and against, is a complete and total crapshoot. Utterly random. Because I enjoy the game and put in a lot of matches my rank inevitably goes up, so the game figures "why NOT stick him in a room full of people that are 7-10 ranks better than him"? I'm facing rank 4 killers at rank 18. Not that it matters, being that others who are rank 18 (or 19, or 20) could just as easily be de-ranked experts or alt accounts of people who have put thousands of hours into this game. The slight majority of my matches are fun and feel competitive win or lose (and I don't care about losing, just having a good game as I TRY to win), all the rest are embarrassments because I need to "gg". Of COURSE I need to gg. I've had the game all of 16 days and I'm being put up against people who have been playing the game for a literal half decade. How the hell is a newcomer supposed to "gg" with a matchmaking system like that?

I solo survivor (I solo everything, I have no choice because my few friends who do most of their gaming on PCs are generally uninterested in the game) and my matches are complete crapshoots. Utter randomness. No predictability or consistency whatsoever. My rank doesn't matter, my low experience doesn't matter. If the game thinks I'm rank 18 then by god, I'm gonna be facing rank 4 players and like it. Hell, it doesn't make a difference when my rank 18 (or 19, or 20) opponents are just de-ranked players or alt accounts of people who have put thousands of hours into this game. I've got less than 200. Sometimes I get a good cooperative team and have a great time. Sometimes as a killer I get 2-3 kills, rarely all 4, and it feels like I accomplished something. I don't even have to win, I don't care if I win. I just want to have fun and not be barked at for not being "g". Of COURSE I'm not g. The game is throwing my raw ass against a bunch of hardened veterans, how the hell am I supposed to gg?

  • I've only had the game for 2 weeks. Though I've had some wins as both killer and survivor, I more often lose. I've had two matches just this morning in which I was annihilated. Same with my teammates, all of whom were between rank 16 and 4 (why this massive discrepancy, anyway?)

I played a match against Leatherface that lasted all of three minutes. He knocked me down, the other survivors came near, and as he carried me he somehow managed to race around and knock down all three other characters. One of the lamest games I've ever seen. I played the saloon against Wraith and while the game lasted a good 12 or 15 minutes, he had magnetism and was able to find me no matter how far away I'd seen him hooking a survivor with my perks and no matter how well I seemed to be hidden.

Played a match against the Demo which went like 20 minutes. Three players down within probably two minutes, one disconnected. The other three of us lasted for about another ten. Then it was down to me and another person who railed me after the game. "What a ######### team", he said. "Thanks for doing nothing Mike, I really appreciate it". Despite the fact that this person was loaded to the gills and bragged about having gotten 4 of the generators "by himself", which meant that I had to spend the rest of the match desperately trying to find the last one and evade an expert Demo player which I've never seen before, so I was in a maze AND trying to avoid a killer with powers I'm not very familiar with because everyone plays Trickster AND I don't know the map layout well because I've gotten the hospital all of probably 7, maybe 8 times out of the whole 16 days that I've owned the game.

So yeah, for any killers complaining about how hard it is for them because there are people who do nothing but loop and coordinate through Discord and exploit their meta builds (and I'm with you, that would annoy the hell out of me too) just remember that there are also solo players who, based on their stupid rank, may LOOK like they're going to offer a challenge but are really just new people trying to honestly learn and do their best but who do not have the hundreds or thousands of hours in this game that the rest of you do.

The Femme Fatal: A deadly woman that poisoned and killed her coworkers and charges. She was a lowly slave/prostitute captured during an invasion of Korea that used her skills in the art of seduction and pleasure to rise in rank, eventually being able to gain enough influence in her brothel to live a lavish life, however still looked down upon by her peers. Until she fell in love with a Portuguese sailor and was left in the dust pregnant; completely abandoned and now without her ability to pleasure, she was destitute. The event sparked her fall back to square one, this time with no hope of escape and the more heated torment of her betters and clients. In a fit of rage after the usual torment of her superior, she killed the owner of the brothel, and from then on, began poisoning all that entered. Finally, when she was caught she was stripped of everything else she had and beheaded with only her last possession being a family heirloom hand mirror, now stain with her blood. In the entity’s realm, she has the ability to create mirrors where reflections of herself and nearby survivors are made. She can attack there reflections or use her own reflection to attack survivors. She also has an ability where she can gain an aerial view of the map to be see and use the reflections (since all killers see in first person) and to teleport to any reflections of herself.

I like the thought you put into this. What would her map be? A brothel would be awesome!

  • I've found Huntress' throwing ability to be more or less fair, depending on the player. I haven't often felt like they got a magic magnet hit with her very often.

    Plague, eh. Middle ground.

Trickster ######### drives me up the wall. I don't know where all these crummy Trickster players are who complain that they can't hit anything. I can dodge back and forth all over the place, wind myself around objects, etc., and my choices are to either take a bunch of hits from his magic throwing knife spam (since it's all ANY Trickster player seems to do) while trying to run from him, only for him to catch up with me somehow anyway, or to do something cheap like sit and cower whenever he's around or try to lead him toward an area where I know other players might intervene. Does Trickster have trouble hitting people with his endless knives? Yeah, for like the first hour or two on the day of his release. Now? Nah, he downs me and pretty much everyone else I play with no matter what level they're on. EVERYONE goes down to this guy. It's just a matter of whether someone gets them up long enough to work toward escape. So all this talk about him being too crappy and ineffectual is a total mystery to me. Huntress and Plague don't feel anywhere NEAR as cheap to me.

Whether there's 3 or 5 is pretty irrelevant.

The real issue is them allowing realms with more variants to inherently have a higher chance of being played. IE we should be rolling for the realm first, not the map. Then once the realm is selected a second roll is done for the map in that realm.

This ensures equal chances for all maps regardless of the amount of variations it contains.

That's a good idea actually. I'd prefer that to the current system. All realms: Equal chance. All maps within the realm: Random draw. That would, in fact, seem to solve all the problems raised in this thread.

  • Meg's my babe but I use Claudette a lot too. She's fun. I find most of the female characters fun to use. Several of the males too, I just find that in general the females seem to have the better perks for my playstyle.

Ok. So if we are feeling that every Badham is the same (5 maps looks more like 1 randomized map), should have more versions of every map that don't have more than 1 or 2 versions too? Or should we change all names to just Badham preschool?

Again, I myself enjoy Badham, but have found two problems with it: That all five versions feel totally interchangeable, and that despite there being a 5x multiplier to get the map, I rarely do.

Being that this is the case, I myself would find it more interesting if there was just one Badham map (the best voted by community, perhaps?) or any two of them combined for a somewhat larger map, and whichever result, have the map's chance of appearing boosted a little bit to make up for the numerical reduction.

Recently the map rotation of myself and several others who responded to my thread about it had their map rotations borked. All of us were only seeing the same maybe 10 maps for days on ends and never seeing any of the others (though, strangely, the small handful of maps we were all getting weren't the same from player to player). When I submitted a ticket I was told that the maps were straight-up randomized. That's a perfectly acceptable idea in theory, but when some maps only have one instance (Saw warehouse / Game), some have a couple (Yamaoka), and others have tens of millions (Coldwind, Macmillan), the randomness isn't balanced, some realms have a much higher chance of appearing than others. I would love for Badham, the Warehouse, Hawkins, Midwich, the Hospital, Haddonfield, and several others to appear more often than they do, or simply at least have as much of a chance of appearing as other maps that may be different from one another but still represent the same aesthetic multiple times over.

The more maps, the more strategies. Loopers hate twisty mazelike indoor maps. Sneakers love dark wooded outdoor maps. Many people love the bigger maps, which are mostly outdoors. Some people love the tighter more confusing maps, which are mostly indoors. I wish there was a more even chance of all maps / realms being represented so that all preferences are catered to.

  • I actually like Badham. To be honest there's not really a map that I DON'T like. I wish there was a little more variation, but it's maps like Badham and all the indoors that provide that variation. The outdoor maps are fine but you can only play so many "forested areas that have either cornfields, cars or swamps" before they get tiresome, you know? Those maps and their multiple variants tend to dominate many of my sessions. Despite Badham having five variations I only ever see it once every day or so, or at a ratio of one per maybe thirty of the forest maps.

Having said that, I don't really know WHY there are so many Badham maps. Maybe it's because I'm new but I can't really tell most of them apart. They feel like subtle rearrangements of the same small area (and man, those are some TINY schools). Now, I don't mind small - again, variation - but to me it would seem cooler if they got rid of maybe three of those Badhams and either left the remaining two as they are or combined them to make a somewhat larger map. I also wonder why a set of Elm Street maps doesn't contain an actual Elm Street.

  • Another fun one happened today on the Switch (well, Lite).

I and three other randos were in Haddonfield against Amanda. We were kicking ass, knocking generators down without her being able to catch up and down us. Until the exit gate was opened. Then, BOOM BOOM BOOM. Within the span of about thirty seconds she managed to get everyone smack in the middle of the street. They must have been traveling together, as I was upstairs in a house fixing the last generator. As soon as one went down, the others quickly followed suit in an attempt to help.

Naturally, I made the same mistake I always do of going to help instead of just gunning for the exit. My humanity overruled my sense of survival. I figured that since I was at a distance I'd be able to sneak over and help even ONE person, which could domino the chain back in our direction. What I hadn't counted on was that Amanda was already going back and forth down the street and turned around to head back from one end to the next just as I was walking out onto the street.

As soon as I half-unhooked someone, she got me down and stood there to watch what everyone would do. One hanged person died. Another person with a reverse bear trap bled out. I just sat there, knowing I had no chance, as the other hooked person died. Then I noticed that the hatch was RIGHT up ahead of me by just a few feet. Right there in the middle of the street.

But Amanda did something I didn't expect. She put a reverse bear trap on me and helped me up. I knew right away what she wanted me to do: Could I make it to the correct key box and escape before the endgame collapse, which had already begun?

I ran to the closest key box. She followed and watched. Nothing. I ran to the next closest key box. Nothing. I ran to the closest one after that. Success! Rather than being a cheap ass and killing me right then and there, she turned in the direction of the hatch. I ran, DESPERATE as the collapse was just seconds away. She ran with me to see if I'd make it. I got ON TOP of the open hatch, not quite making it to the collision box to trigger the escape, and time ran out. I died right there, directly atop the middle of the open hatch. Amanda closed the hatch as I died.

I don't know if the person behind Amanda was trying to roleplay or not, but either way they totally succeeded. Did I have the desire for life to try to make a go for it and get it off of my head before it was too late? She didn't kill me, she gave me a choice to save myself. And if not for literally ONE SECOND or less of timing, I would have made it out of the map and won. But she gave me a chance, in true Jigsaw fashion, and I thought that was not only awesome but also very sportsmanlike, just like the match I described before this one.

This really is a great game to be a storyteller with. And while I gave the Amanda player props, I sadly didn't think to catch their name. So if you happen to see this, know that you're great!

So if the killer (the power role) has the power to run forever, then why should the survivor also have the power to do so?

The stamina bar doesn't even stop a survivor from running forever (read the title).

If you ran the killer for 5 minutes without using your exhaustion perk then you obviously don't need it. You bought your team 5 minutes. Congrats. Enough is enough. You shouldn't be allowed to use an exhaustion perk to buy yourself another 5 minutes.

I have read the title and I have read the post. I'm not sure why this continues to be unclear to people.

Why should the survivor have the ability to run without limits just because the killer does? Because it's fair. Actually less than fair, since the killers are all faster than the survivors. Placing further limits (NO, NOT THE LACK OF ABILITY TO RUN, I'M SAYING ANY LIMITS) on the survivor's ability to get away from a killer's infinite, faster chase, would make things more imbalanced.

I will say again: If the killer is chasing after a survivor for five straight minutes and that's still not enough for him to either catch up or remember that there are three other survivors working on generators as he does, then he's not playing very intelligently.

"The survivor should be punished for spending too much time trying to run away from me!" ...OK.

  • Are we talking about wanting to see a movie version of a character's lore as it currently is? In that case I'd probably have to go with Huntress. Her story is really interesting, tragic and in-depth. A character who's both wicked and sympathetic at the same time.

If we're talking about a movie that uses the character but comes up with a whole new of different backstory (ie, explores the character concept), I'd go with Doctor, Wraith, Spirit, Hag or Twins. They all have the potential to have any number of cool stories written about their origins.

  • To be honest I didn't start seeing this before a few days ago, myself. My level got down to about 11 at that time and I was getting matched with people who were as low as 6 or 7. A bit too large a discrepancy as far as I'm concerned, but I dealt with it. Or tried to anyway. Even pulled off a win against someone with the largest gap, which felt pretty good for a new player such as myself.

Then I went and bought the Switch version of the game (which is, to my surprise, basically a 1:1 port of the PC version, just with a lower framerate and moderately reduced textures on some things) and spent a good day or two playing that. When I returned to the PC version late last night I was back to level 20, which is perfectly fine - good in fact, since I AM still new - but for some reason I was still being matched against people that were rank 11 or 12. I don't know why.

I know that I need to git gud but I'd like the chance to do so, lol.

If survivors rush Gens, they don't get many BP's either. In fact that's why AFK killers are so annoying. You miss out an opportunity for an entire category of points. I'll never understand players who's goal is to win as fast as possible so they can get back to the lobby. It's why I never bring BNP's or Toolboxes unless I've got a rift challenge (in which case I bring a brown toolbox and use it up immediately)

I also don't understand the desire to rush and win quickly (though, by contrast, I don't understand the need to deliberately drag things out past logical gameplay parameters either).

I enjoy this game the most when it's balanced and reasonably competitive, when I as either the killer or survivor are in a cat and mouse match that lasts ten minutes or more. They get a gen, I get a hook. They get an unhook, I get another victim. They get another gen. I go to grab victim three, now the other two victims have been freed but are looking to hide rather than gen rush. Regardless of which side I'm on in this type of scenario, I love it. The only matches I truly hate are the ones that end for me within just a few minutes because I can't find any damn survivors who are just gen rushing like mad, or when I'm a survivor and the killer just happens to come straight for me first and camp me or rehook me within a couple of minutes. In other words I've lost matches in as short as two and a half minutes, and they completely deflate my enthusiasm. Meanwhile I've lost matches that were 15 minutes long and I still had a great time.

As for whether the killers or survivors are better, unfair, imbalanced, etc., I see people arguing both sides a dozen times a day. As far as I'm concerned if it's not deliberately exploiting an unintended gameplay scheme (collusion, body blocking) it's a fair strategy that probably has viable counterplay.

  • More killers have entered the ranks now, with only Amanda, Huntress, Ghostface and Plague not being specified yet. Demogorgon has risen to the point that I think he's about on par with Hag and Spirit now, with Oni being close behind.

Back when MLGA was a thing a streamer that only played nurse had hour long queue times because survivors kept blocking nurse players.

We don't need that back in the game.

Anyone who gets blocked enough to have hour-long queue times (which I doubt; what did this streamer do to prove it, show completely unedited footage of himself just sitting there looking at the lobby screen for an hour?) then he's clearly a problem player who pissed dozens if not hundreds of people off. The player base simply isn't small enough to force anyone to wait that long to find a game. Hundreds of players would have to report every single nurse player they saw, and that person would have to have been playing no one BUT the nurse in every game, to get that kind of result. I find that highly unlikely. And I would think that if some kind of filter or block system were added at this point, it could be implemented intelligently enough, or looked at from time to time, to ensure that players weren't just blocking everyone who happened to be in a match with them using a character that they didn't like.

As I said, the system would be abused. Players abuse everything which is why people even need to have discussions like the ones in this thread. That doesn't mean that there can't be safeguards put in place, or that it would even be abused to such an absurd extent that it would actually completely block someone out of a game. Let's say that hypothetically the devs instituted this block system and set up an algorithm that they didn't make public. Say for example a player would have to get 10 reports about the same disruptive activity within a 24 hour period. We don't know that, but the devs do. Once this criteria is reached, the game automatically gives the person a warning not to do it again. Let's say that for every five more times he's reported he gets another warning, then five more for the last warning. That's 25 instances of the guy being reported for ######### behavior with three automated warnings. After that, the next time he's reported his account is blocked for a day, a week, whatever. What are the odds that a bunch of random people in a bunch of random matches decide to report an innocent person for the exact same false actions 25 times in the span of a single day? The guy would have to be pissing people off, for one reason or another, in every game he was in for like two or three hours straight. And if that's the case, he DESERVES to be looked into regardless.

A checks and balances system is not impossible. Everyone just wants to pooh-pooh it on principle because they want to assume that somehow it will immediately destroy the ability of all fair players (wherever they are) to enjoy their game. The anger and spite between survivors and killers is such that seemingly everyone would rather shoot down any attempt for people to get away from actual toxic behavior because they believe that the other side is nothing but babies who will abuse any such system to the breaking point. I'm sick of seeing "naw, the survivors will block people who beat them" as the reason not to even consider a system that could filter out game scummers. They can already falsely report the people who beat them, and that goes both ways, so what's the difference?

  • I do think it's interesting that the reason given to fear Trickster - that he's just a serial killing human (a reason I can totally get behind) - didn't get Amanda, Legion, Ghostface, The Huntress, The Clown or Leatherface on the list. I wonder if it's because all of them are wearing masks (or in Clown's case, makeup and an exaggerated physical appearance)? I didn't realize until now that Trickster is the only human killer who also LOOKS human.

  • So far The Spirit and The Hag seem to be leading the pack with Demogorgon and The Blight coming up next, and I think Oni behind them.

Unless I missed it no one has singled out Amanda, Ghostface, Legion, Huntress, Plague, Clown, Leatherface, or Freddy. Interesting, that's a full third of the cast (though I think that Plague probably looks the least threatening out of them all, I didn't really expect her to get many "votes").

Hey man, I'm with you on the looping crap. I don't like that so much of the game revolves around it.

  • Nice, all good choices with some good explanations. For me it would probably have to be either be The Spirit or The Hag. Maybe The Nurse. Most of the killers don't exactly look welcoming but for me those are the ones that spell "this thing is not of this world and it wants you dead".

Hopefully I'll be better by then, at least at the stupid looping crap that apparently makes up 90% of a survivor's ability to escape once seen.

  • I've had the game for two weeks and went from rank 20 to about rank 11 in that time. By then I was in matches with people who were occasionally as low as rank 7 or 6. I didn't like it at all. I don't think that I'm AWFUL but I know that I'm also not great, and it feels like the game went too fast from "getting my feet wet" to "playing against career loopers with photographic memory of the map layouts, encyclopedic knowledge of all perks, and maxed-out character builds".

Once in a great while (twice I think) someone chatted me the eye-rolling original taunt of "gg". I think to myself "yeah, that's what I'm TRYING to do you dumb #########". It's not the easiest thing when you jump into a five year-old game and get matched up with other people who have a thousand hours of playtime already under their belt.

We need more people like you, my friend. A lot of us oldies are getting too cynical. I imagine it must be a double edged sword getting into the game now though. The game is inarguably in the best state it's ever been but the Devs have made many mistakes as of late and long time players are getting very burnt out as a result. There's also a lot of entitlement in the community, I myself am guilty of this. As much as I'm upset with the game right now, I'd be sadder to see it die. DBD is unique, it would be a real loss for it to die. I myself regret very few of my purchases on this game. I will say though, unless your just a naturally very chill person, the game can be genuinely triggering. If your mental health is deteriorating as a result of the game, a break is recommended. If you're new then for now the game will be the best thing since sliced bread to you but eventually things might be unpleasant. No shame in taking breaks if necessary. Anyway, have a nice day and I hope you continue to enjoy the game!

Thank you, that's very nice of you to say.

I've wanted to play this game for years but don't generally enjoy the online experience. I play to relax and have fun, not to compete or win at all costs. The only game I played online to any real extent was GTA V, and that was only with some friends that I had on another forum. I had loads of fun and really miss it. I don't play the game online now because it means playing in public lobbies, and I've found that playing public lobbies in almost any game means at least some needless degree of frustration and stress.

Still, this game has been calling to me, and a buddy of mine gifted me a Steam copy. I played and fell in love with it immediately. It's far deeper than I was expecting (I didn't know about all the lore, teachable perks, didn't realize that there were roughly 6-7 times as many characters as I thought there would be, etc). It's got a bit of a learning curve, the community uses more acronyms than I can count, and I've had to look things up more times than once. But by and large it's been fun.

When I talked about wanting to get into the game I was warned that the community was incredibly toxic. I have to admit that it's...at the very least, highly negative. So many people complain about so many things. The survivors hate the killers. The killers hate the survivors. Survivor builds are laughed at. Killers are all called broken. All perks are criticized. The developers are called lazy and careless. The game is described as bugged. There's a lot of annoyance directed at new players as well as extremely experienced players. People celebrate exploits and get angry at most changes that are made to the game.

That's not to say that any of this is unique to this place. It's the same as things were on the other forum I mentioned, also a forum for some other games. I've been negative too, bitching about how annoying I find Trickster to be. That stuff doesn't bother me as much I suppose. It's just certain aspects of the game that I wasn't expecting. I had no idea going in that there was this massive reliance on the looping #########, which I hate. I'm not interested in having to memorize certain tiles and lure killers into lengthy chases, it's not fun or compelling to me. I thought that the game was more about sneaking around and being able to get away from the killer if you were simply good enough at unpredictable evasion. I also didn't know that some perks made certain killers really irritating and that I'd sometimes be waiting five or ten minutes to get into a match only for the killer to go straight for me, hook me, and then camp me until I died.

Can't say that I like that stuff. But I'll adapt. I'm still largely loving the game. I wish that I could be more evenly matched up with other players who are as new as I am (or close enough to it), I wish it felt like the people I played with didn't already have a thousand hours of practice and already have maxed-out meta build characters, but I still largely enjoy it. There's enough content here to keep me really intrigued, and my goal is still to have fun and play casually, not cheaply or competitively, even if it's been hard to find others who share the same philosophy.

As for the game being balanced, it does largely feel to me that it is. I have as much trouble / success with survivors as I do with killers (I just enjoy the survivor playstyle more). I've seen lots and lots of stories of how crappy a character was when first released, what the game was like before some of the balance it's gotten, etc. It really does feel like a weird time to suddenly find myself getting involved (and spending sixty or seventy bucks on four years' worth of DLC, lol) but, minus the cheap and annoying stuff, I really enjoy the game. I think that there's a lot here TO enjoy. I wish that more players looked at it that way instead of fighting and being irritated about everything.

As for you, if you don't mind, what DLC do you regret buying?

I feel you bud. Quit for 8 months, Ame back and can't be bothered to grind the rift at all. I keep staring at my screen telling myself to finish it but I'm tier 43 so who am I kidding... I'll play a couple of matches per day and hate myself for wasting another perfectly good 30 minutes of my life on this utter trash. I'd rather beat off at this point.

You don't beat off WHILE you're playing this game? You're not playing it right.

  • Once I saw Trickster's knives and rolled my eyes because I hate him. They wound up being for Amanda. Then during another match I did see the axes and got kind of excited because I like going against The Huntress, but it wound up being The Doctor or something. I guess the axes are the default for anyone who doesn't have the knives, otherwise it's the knives by default.

The funniest part about that is Yun-Jin actually does think that about Trickster if you read her lore.

She’s disgusted by him and humiliated to have been his producer and let him get away with a bunch of murders. She literally sent herself into the entities realm to make Trickster pay for ruining her life

Oh, thanks for letting me know. I was wondering why she looked so pissed. This DLC was a turnoff so I admit that I didn't read the characters' bios.

If you arent helping the team escape you're making things harder for the team. If everybody is on death hook except for you and you didn't help us get gens done why should you live? There's been plenty of times where I've seen a meg walking the entire map, to save sprint burst, not touching a gen when she has more than enough time to at least try and you're saying she deserves to get away?

I don't see it as a binary situation. If a player is being patient, sneaking, and taking their time that should be up to them. I also learned pretty quickly that running out to save everyone who gets hooked means pretty much guaranteed death since everyone face camps. There are also some players who are so new they're still trying to have a chance to figure out map layouts and get a feel for the gameplay.

And I don't see it as making things harder for the team, I see it as not making things easier for the team. They may not be adding, but it's not like they're taking. If anything they're another target that the killer could possibly spot and engage in a chase, taking the pressure off the rest of the crew. Getting a player eliminated from the game seems like a counterproductive way to punish them from not being more active in the game.

Do they deserve to get away? If they're good enough to elude the killer the whole time I don't see why not, it's not like they'll get many points if they didn't do anything anyway. And you never know, maybe the person is waiting to come in at the clutch when it's time to open the doors or distract the killer during the endgame? Maybe not, but it's possible.

I get your point, I would be annoyed seeing someone just wandering around not helping too. I sometimes see people literally just standing there as if they fell asleep during the loading screen, that's not fun either. I just think that deciding for yourself whether a player is too inactive, and then going out of your way to get them killed for it, doesn't really seem like anything that benefits you or the other players in any way other than providing some sense of justice or something.

A lot of cosmetics are designed to look a bit scruffy to fit in with the whole cat and mouse theme of the game. It's possible that the idea is that his pants came untucked while chasing survivors.

It's the tucked one that looks odd to me. I don't know why someone would tuck dress slacks into shoes.

  • I would imagine that 99 percent of this forum has played the game much, much longer than me so it's probably much easier for them to forget about or not really even have any need for the Daily Rituals. For someone who has only a few survivors past level 30 and no killers past 10 yet, they're a great opportunity that I jump at immediately. So I guess maybe it depends on how much someone needs the bloodpoints.

When I first began playing I thought "man, this is going to be a grind". But once I found out about the Rituals and Tomes, I was psyched.

EDIT: You bring up a good point though: Shards are way, WAY too hard to get in this game. I shouldn't have to decide between spending ten dollars or 30,000 shards for a single new character outfit.

  • @Hektic3000 said:

If im playing and i never see you doing gens, making saves, or healing and the only thing you're doing is crouching around without being hooked im gonna rat you out and you deserve it.

Don't know if they deserve it or not, I can see both sides of that one, but I will say that I don't know why someone would be paying that much attention to another survivor in the first place. I also don't get the logic of making things harder for your own team. They may not be contributing anything if you don't see them doing so, but you're guaranteeing that they won't be if you take it upon yourself to remove them from the game.

  • The rituals? I go for them all the time, they're a great boon to newer players such as myself.

  • I'm a new player and was excited about being able to get a new pack right away until I saw that it blows. A ######### killer, no map, and menu aesthetic and music changes that I find garish, out of character for the game, and obnoxious. So basically, one survivor that seems decent and nothing else. Looking back at the other packs I can't imagine how cool it must have been to get some of them.

The All-Kill pack is the only one I haven't bought, and won't. My advice would be not to give up the game but simply wait a few days to see what the feedback is on each new DLC. Watch a Youtube video or two. You don't have to blindly buy, you can read what others think and see the new stuff for yourself first before making that decision.

Maybe this is naivete from a newbie but I think that the game is easily worth the asking price, as is much of the DLC (particularly when it's on sale. An average of $2.50 for a new character isn't bad at all). I myself wouldn't bail on a game just because of unimpressive DLC, at least not unless I was already prepared to give up on the game anyway.

  • If someone is soloing as a survivor and there's a killer who can randomly transform into what looks like one of the other three strangers, only for said stranger to sabotage generators and / or attack the solo player, what's the counterplay? What defense does the solo player have against this?

  • @OldHunterLight said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2079312#Comment_2079312

Yes exactly but why should the killer be punished for that? That is not the killer's fault that is the survivor's fault

I agree, I said earlier that if the survivor is the one instigating things like this then it's more on the survivor than the killer. That said, if the killer has the traitor survivor within attackable range and doesn't act on it, then he's clearly giving favor to that player in exchange for the player's assistance. At that point the two are working together.

If I use an aura perk and deliberately run the killer to each victim so they get killed first, for whatever reason I may have, I'm working with the killer and deserve the blame. If the killer gives me a pass and doesn't take advantage of the chance to go after me as well, then he deserves just as much of the blame.

Someone said earlier that running to a locker and pointing to it for the killer to know that someone's inside usually results in the pointer being killed, not the person in the locker (not at all in my experience, but I digress). If that happens, the pointer should be reported. If the killer allows the pointer to stand aside so he can open the locker and get the kill, then both should be reported.

    They... can...

You're still not understanding what's been suggested.

'Exhausted' is a defined status in the game, it does not mean they're get tired and can't run anymore.

The argument boils down to "there should be a stamina gauge that changes the current state of the game for survivors, because it's annoying being looped by them for five minutes, followed by perks that add ANOTHER five minutes.

If you guys are so bothered by the trickiness of chasing survivors for minutes on end, then Instead of adding more clutter to the screen with a new meter and altering gameplay elements for the side you don't like, I offer an alternate suggestion: Stop chasing survivors for minutes on end.

Farming teammates is not banable, that is not working with the killer, working with the killer is something like survivor 1 goes out of their way to find survivor 2 and make noises or something to make sure survivor 2 dies.

If someone is playing an honest game and tries to confuse the killer by running past another survivor or whatever, that's one thing. Deliberately working against your own team, such as by getting the killer's attention and deliberately leading him to fellow teammates - is antithesis to the purpose of the game. I think it's fair to assume that the survivor game is not meant to be one of deliberate and consistent sabotage.

    Read the first post again.

It doesn't limit survivors ability to run, it doesn't slow down survivors at all.

What it does do, is put a limitation of Exhaustion perks, in that it gives survivors a window at the start of a chase (that could be adjusted to whatever is fairest) in which they will need to utilise their Exhaustion perks if they want to. It could be something like 60 seconds, which should be more than enough for the vast majority of survivors. But it means that the very best of the best of survivors, who can effortlessly loop a killer for minutes at a time, doesn't then ALSO get to use a second chance like Dead Hard to extend the chase for ANOTHER 5 minutes on top of the first 5 minutes they ran the killer for.

This is no different to how DS works, with it's 60 second timer. Use it or lose it.

He said that once the gauge depletes, the player is exhausted and has to wait for it to fill again to return to a normal state. He then goes on to state that the reason for this idea would be to put restrictions on the survivor's ability to flee, which he sees as too strong. I don't agree.

If the killer can run infinitely with no restriction, faster than the survivor and with the ability to see the survivor's tracks no less, than the survivor should be able to run infinitely without restriction as well.

  • I talked about this earlier but a few days ago I was in a match against The Huntress. She was really good, had some good timing and accuracy on her axe throws. We engaged each other in several close calls, but she usually caught up with me sooner or later.

By the end I was the last survivor and I dodged her axe throw by a HAIR without turning back to look. Because I didn't turn back though, she got me with another thrown axe just as I was completing a window vault. I said to myself "ah, good hit. Fair enough. It was a fun match". To my surprise though she didn't hook me, she plopped me down at the base of a hill and walked up it with another axe throw readied. I got up initially unsure as to what she was doing but she continued standing there so I figured oh, she wants a direct skill challenge - my dodging versus her aiming.

I thought why not? So I indulged her by juking back and forth, dodging multiple throws until she eventually caught me with one. She came down, propped me back to life again, and retreated back to the hill for another round. I waited until she got into position, letting her know that I was willing to engage her in this way, and dodged a few more axes before getting caught one more time.

This time she picked me up and started walking. I didn't wiggle, I wanted to see what was up. After a minute or so she found the hatch, dropped me in front of it, and threw an axe at it to let me know that she was setting me free. I wiggled in an attempt to let her know that I appreciated the gesture, and crawled in.

It was very cool. I very much enjoyed our back and forth, I feel that we had mutual respect for each other, and I was flattered that she apparently thought highly enough of my performance to let me win. The user was named Lycan_Leviathan or something incredibly close to that and I hope to encounter him or her again. In a game so full of scummy players it was a pleasure to be matched against someone who demonstrated maturity and sportsmanship.

  • Killers are inherently faster than the survivors and don't run out of stamina. Why limit the survivors' ability to run?

I wouldn't want to see a limitation to running on either side. Just a needless restriction in my opinion.

This is a fantastic idea. I would absolutely make use of it if it existed.

    Thank you.

Would it be abused? Unquestionably. There would be plenty of instances of people getting butthurt and blocking people just because those people won, or any other number of irresponsible reasons. But like I mentioned, I feel that there would have to be a LOT of irresponsible people blocking that person before he finds himself unable to find other matches to play in. I mean how many thousands of people play this game? 500 people could block someone and they'd still find games. Meanwhile those 500 people (well, the 100 of them that were blocking for legitimate reasons) no longer have to worry about ever encountering them again. Sooner or later maybe players could filter out the people that ruin their games and waste their time.

Idunno. That's how I feel anyway. I just think that there's a low likelihood of so many people hating on an innocent player for no good reason that they manage to destroy his ability to find a match. I think that there's a greater likelihood of lots of people having their games ruined because of douche players that go unpunished for ruining other peoples' games.

  • Just read a bunch of comments and articles discussing cross-progression yesterday before saying "hell with it" and just buying all the DLC (minus All-Kill) for the Switch, my second version of the game after PC. I got sick of seeing "coming soon" and "getting close" in everything that I read. I figured that at the very least it's not coming within the next week while everything is on sale.
