Don't ever apologize for being that guy.
Well, you never know how people are going to react. I would like to say I've played as someone that looks like my people more than I have. I don't want it to be like a single line of text that isn't evident in the characters design either. I mean be cliche and throw a sombrero on them if you have to. Show it in their features or ink.
You can look at Feng or Claudette and know what you are getting. But I'm supposed to know about Jane being Hispanic because she's thick like J-Lo? I just bought her like a week ago tops. It's cool to know though, but I just kinda want to see a full package. I appreciate the comment though, thanks.

Lol what? Dude, Jane Romero is hispanic. Read your lore entries, it's like, her WHOLE thing- her balking against being typecast as the funny hispanic lady who people wanted to speak in an accent and all. Smh. Seriously, going off of her tome content you can't get any more "obviously hispanic", they basically beat you over the head with it.
If you read the comments, multiple people have already pointed it out,I JUST bought her chapter days ago,and didn't read the character info until today when people mentioned it (which doesn't even state her origin). I just bought the character days ago,and her Tome entries were from the last Rift, when I didn't have her,so I obviously wasn't able to do them.
I just started playing the game again like February and didn't have any of the characters you had to pay for until recently. I'm not really a big lore guy honestly. I was kinda saying I would like a Hispanic character that was more obvious, and wasn't a single line in a character entry,or some secret lore you have to do a challenge to even be able to see. Some of the challenges are a bit beyond my skill level anyways.
I've already said that's my bad. I just didn't know. If the thread didn't blow up unexpectedly I probably would've never known.

I was surprised that skin won, it doesn't fit claudette's personality at all.
Would rather prefer a lab coat cosmetic than that.
I liked the Frog skin someone did for the contest. I think that fit well for a different reason. She's always crouched ready to pop up at any moment lol.

There are a lot of great underrated perks out there. People tend to underestimate the amount of information that aura-reading perks, like Alert and Empathy, give the player. Personally, I'm a fan of perks that allow you to escape by doing things the killer isn't expecting - so Poised and Tenacity are two of my favourites for that reason.
Agree. I'm probably one of the only people that's a fan of Dark Sense though, lol.

Doesnt Jane have a Day of the Dead type cosmetic too? Makes sense.
Says she is Latina American https://deadbydaylight.gamepedia.com/Jane_Romero
Yeah I just was going by what you could get from her story in game, which I didn't look at until people mentioned. I'd just kinda like to see one where you didn't have to guess and was paired with a killer from the appropriate lore. Some people had some good suggestion. I really didn't expect any kind of response lol. I don't really do cosmetics. I just started playing again a few months ago after a year or more break, and just bought all the chapters very very recently. Think I bought 6 chapters just this month. Plague and Oni packs were the last two I got last week. The last two I have left to buy are Ash and the Stranger Things chapter.

I would say something but every killer main in the world would get on me. What do you guys think about deathslinger?
I dunno. Like others I thought he was pretty good at first. Now that people know him,it's like you have to be super skilled to get any value out of him. At least Huntress has multiple hatchets, and doesn't have the potential to get stunned AND have to reload every time she uses one. Plus there's so many opportunities to duck, weave,or put something in the way. There's other killers that are better to get free hits. He's not the worst by any means though.

Hispanic? You mean like Jane Romero...
Yeah we've been through that multiple times just like the Jake thing. I dunno. It just wasn't obvious to me. Even the ones that are Hispanic are kind of vague,as far as names and actual origin. My fault though.

Same! I swear to god there was some piece of media that mentioned he was half Native American, but I could be wrong. I wanna say it was one of his yellow cosmetics.
Not sure, but it's definitely a Korean last name. He also has a skin from Lunar New Year that makes him look like Bruce Lee to me...or Johnny Cage,I guess lol. I mean people have two parents,so it's possible one was Native American and one was Korean American.

A lot of people here seem to think Jane is Hispanic, but her lore says: "She can play any female role, lead or support, and yet she only gets auditions for the “Spicy Latina” or the “funny immigrant” or the “waitress with an accent,” never just… woman… American."
If we're to take her Archive to heart (since it is the lore BHVR set for her), this is either a case of Latinx (I believe that's the right all-encompasing term, someone please correct me if I'm wrong) looking very similar to Hispanics OR she's not Hispanic.
That would mean we still need a Hispanic Survivor, along with a Native American, Pacific Islander and South Asian (as the Asian Survivors we have are Eastern, and the difference can be pretty large).
I personally don't like the Latinx term, but yes that's correct. That's also a very interesting point and observation. I know some of the Middle Eastern players are pretty dedicated and willing to go to decent lengths sometimes to play the game. So I wouldn't mind seeing them represented as well. I know they also have their own myths and stuff within their culture.
I love Kate's design, but if I had to pick a favorite survivor it would be Feng Min,then Claudette a close second. So I have no problem playing as someone that doesn't look like me,and I actually quite enjoy it at times. It's just that I almost never see it,so I thought it would be cool.
Street Fighter might be sorta cliche with their depictions, but they definitely have people from all around the world and you can usually tell where they are from without some story. So I counted that as one of three times I saw a Hispanic main character. The other two are from GTA:The Ballad of Gay Tony and Shadows of the Damned. Their might be more, but those are the ones I recall that were most obvious.

With Jane and Ace he must mean SPANISH from Spain
Would be cool a brave bullfighter with agressive fight back perks and not the useless cr4p we got recently
I mean yeah, maybe that would've been a better way to word it. I just though Ace was straight Italian and didnt want to assume Jane was Hispanic just because she's thick in the backside. Plus shes paired with a Babylonian killer. So yeah,Spain,Mexico,Puerto Rico, whatever. I mean we have Yui paired with a killer that makes a lot of sense. I just don't see my people represented much,or in a very good light.
Like I said I can only remember three Hispanic main characters (I'd argue the games themselves weren't even very big titles),and the rest were like gang members or cartel, etc. I don't mind when people ask to see someone of a specific race or gender until they ask the wrong way. And I have no problem with any of the characters on an aesthetic level. Just thought it'd be cool to see.

Jane is fairly nondescript, but Romero is definitely Hispanic. According to Wikipedia, about 0,43% of Spanish people have that surname and it's the 20th most common.
Well I mean who am I to argue with Google? The only two I've ever seen was George Romero, and Cesar Romero, one of which is definitely Hispanic,so yeah. Like I said her mother's name threw me off. I'm also not sure why they paired her with a killer like that. Not saying they all make sense, but yeah, that's my mistake.

OP, how about Ace Visconti? He's an Argentinian of Italian descent.
Yeah I actually didn't know that until I just read his thing. That's pretty interesting to be honest. Maybe a better question would've been "Can we get a more obviously Hispanic character" and that's my fault. Like there's survivors were you can tell their roots just by seeing this name, let alone their story and model. I appreciate you letting me know about that one though. I find the story very interesting. His whole deal kinda makes sense now.

Well,I mean I guess I can see that sorta. Just with a mother named Loretta Lawrence,I would assume otherwise, but it could be a stage name,or like I said maybe she's of mixed race. Neither Jane nor Romero sounds particularly Hispanic to me. Of course I have an super common American first name and a super Hispanic last name.

Most of them aren't as vague,Zarina,Yui,Feng, etc. Those are more identifiable. If she's Hispanic that's cool though. And both of those would be awesome, and pretty much what I was thinking lol.

It is appropriate for us to be able to express concerns over the grind in this game, on this forum.
Man I played on PC for about a year ish,not long after launch. Then a few parts on my PC went and I just never replaced them. I jumped on PS4,and was just getting frustrated for numerous reasons and quit for over a year. I just got back January and February and decided to like dedicate myself to the game as much as possible.
I had no DLC characters besides the free ones up until a few months ago. I just bought about 6 chapters this month. Only need two more. The grind is almost unbearable in this case, especially with other issues. I mean,at least I know what perks are good to go for first. BBQ and Chili and other meta making the most sense. But that doesn't change the fact it makes it daunting. Challenges help a bit,but not by much lol.

Considering how bad the new Lery's runs compared to the older maps, I am not thrilled for any graphic update of any map.
Yeah I'm not really excited for any of them for a different reason. None of them are very visually appealing, and usually feature the same dull colors. Yamaoka I guess might be alright. I guess if they run like crap it doesn't matter anyway. I don't get it. This game isn't exactly pushing limits. I've seen way more detailed online games with bigger zones, and they seem to run fine.
-
I mean,I dunno. They sell you the game once and then what? Some people didn't even have to pay for it (was free for PS Plus). They have to keep the servers on,pay their team and bills. I don't really fault them for trying to make money, but I do feel like some of the pricing is egregious. Like you draw and render an outfit to have it cost $10+ or an insane amount of time. I think it's like 40 levels to get 9k shards even. So for 20k we are talking an insane amount of time.
I personally don't mind the Rift. I've bought it twice so far (was on a break for the first one, which seems to have the hardest challenges anyways). I'm not going to buy cosmetics so I figured might as well. I played without any of the DLC characters for almost two years. I just came back February after a long break and now I only have Ash and the Stranger Things chapter left to buy. I bought like 6 chapters this month lol.
I'm what most people would consider poor. I know it's kind of a cliche or jerky thing to say,but if you don't like it don't buy it. Or if you do,you gotta go by their prices or wait for a sale. If people weren't paying the money stuff wouldn't cost so much,so they obviously are. I've seen so many bunny Fengs it's unreal. I understand your argument and don't really disagree though.

@brokedownpalace said:
I think people might pay more than that for someone like James. But Lisa Garland? Doubtful
Never bought a skin on this game ever. I'm a fan of Lisa though. I would consider it. There's always someone that will buy something for a game, regardless of price,or value,if it's considered special. Thing could be $1000 and you'd get a few people to buy it. I used to be surprised,I'm not anymore. Even $10 or 20k shards sounds insane to me,personally (think it takes like 40 ish levels to get 9k,so we are talking hours of time), and I've seen so many Bunny Fengs it's unreal. If they do the classic Lisa,I think it'd be more interesting than James, who is sorta generic. I get your point though. It's a main character from a game as opposed to a side character.

I need my audio man. I felt like I've gotten way better since I started using a headset instead of speakers. It's a lot easier to hear where someone is or where they are traveling to. I guess it's just another way to challenge yourself. I have played both sides of PC and Console, I'm more into the console but I think they should be seperated. I don't mind the crossplay between ps4-xbox-switch but they should just keep pc out of the way
Just made a comment earlier that people ask for it,seem so hype when they are getting it,then complain a week later when they get destroyed by PC players or encounter a cheater. You can say there's not many cheaters on PC as compared to the actual player base, but cheating and hacking is almost non existent on PS4. I've played both for around the same amount of time. Didn't get serious until I got on PS4.
PC has keyboard and mouse (which I personally always thought did give at least a slight edge),Xbox has their fancy customizable controllers (meh),and Switch has a controller...that's barely viable to play anything but the most basic game possible for any length of time, lol.
I personally don't care much. I usually turn it off though. I have like two friends in real life, and they both have the same two consoles and don't play the game, despite me practically begging, haha. If people want it, whatever.

In all seriousness, something in the mid-chapter update seems to have wrecked matchmaking more than it was already. These kinds of games aren't fair and they aren't fun yet I come across more and more of them. However if you play this game regularly, you are probably already aware of the problem. I just wanted to share my own experience. My friend suggested uploading all of these screenshots to the DBD forum.
I mean since we are sharing. It's not always impossible to beat someone you think or perceive might be better than you. Sometimes it is though. Some of these were with low level killers with crap add ons,and adept builds at that. But please believe me,I understand completely. I get so angry and frustrated playing kill now,it isn't even funny. So I switched to survivor and just play killer for challenges,or dailies. I just bought almost every DLC chapter the past few months, and haven't even tried some of the killers yet. They say the new system is on the way. Let's just cross our fingers that it works well, and doesn't cause the long queue time issue again,or break something else.

Look it's fine if you're personally disappointed about Pyramid Head because you were hoping for someone else and/or you're simply not interested in him.
But to say that he didn't deserve his inclusion or that the series isn't iconic is just plain wrong.
I personally agree as a long time horror fan. If you discount movies from the argument,I would say he's easily one of the most iconic monsters in horror gaming history. I really don't think there's many more that are even close.
My last tweet this morning before the stream was saying "I think it'd be cool if it wasn't something from a movie. Like from a show, game,or book." So I really wasnt disappointed. I wanted something that didn't fit all the "clues" and that a ton of people didn't guess.
I feel like they must have had a hell of a time getting Konami to sign off on this. Probably found out they sell $10-12 skins and it was a done deal, lol. He's an icon from a classic horror franchise. Wasn't like they were lying.
I'm sure a lot of players are horror fans, but I'd say just as many are gamers first and foremost. Any gamer (especially ones into horror games) is going to know what Silent Hill and Pyramid Head are. Can a person really say the same about Candyman? A property that hasn't had a film in like two decades and wasn't that popular to begin with.
I think it's a really great choice and I can see why it was emotional and meant something to them. They made an online horror game. I'm sure they really are fans of the property. The franchise has had a big influence in the horror communities. I hope this means some of the rumors about a Silent Hill game coming for next gen are true. Heather...was an interesting choice. Seems kinda odd, considering.

Man I couldn't find the screenshot of when it made me go against a rank 1 Huntress as a rank 15,but this just happened a minute ago...
In my experience it almost always puts greens against greens or lower. I was getting ready to yell at the guy for being obviously boosted. I was like,no way this guy is a low/mid rank. Not even one gen on! Was ending chases pretty quick. Was good with the portals. Mindgaming. Only reason I didn't depip is because of healing and a few hook saves. Well right now there are a few challenges specifically calling for it (and then others calling for Kate so they might be using it just with her in general) so it's not abnormal that you're seeing it more often.
I use it with my Kate. I haven't really unlocked it with many others so I'm not sure I'll use it once I have it unlocked or not but I've really liked it. Very useful since when I'm the killer, I know if you make a turn quickly after a vault I need those scratch marks to keep track of the survivor. I will likely at least try to fit it in when I start unlocking it with others.
I haven't seen a Huntress in forever and I've been playing non stop. Got 600k BP since yesterday. Seen a lot of Legions though. Some seem to be letting people go if they get the challenge done. I finished all mine like a week ago. Waiting for the next level to open tomorrow. I didn't have any of the characters either. Bought them all so I can do it. Just came back February and had no extra characters...now all I have left to buy is Ash and the Stranger Things pack, lol.

Yeah I know about the challenges lol. There's only one for using the actual perk. The thing is,I was seeing a lot of not Kate's using it. Meaning they went to the trouble to level her up,teach it to their character, and slap it on their build. Maybe I just happen to be seeing all the people doing the challenge, but my question was more,do you think it's useful otherwise? Or,what's a good pairing if you are going to use it?

I think it's great actually, can be super good for jukes and OP with Lithe.
I see. I usually try to run my builds without looking it up or asking anyone (usually they'll just recommend meta anyway)...so I thought I came up with the Lithe combo off the top of my head lol. Just sounded like a good idea. No wondering I've been having good luck.

That attracts so much toxicity?
Recently I was bored and went through my PSN messages to start deleting some of them. It was then that I realised, probably about 90% of them were from DBD players and almost all of them were the typical “I hope you die” or “I hope you get cancer” messages. Ya know, the really ‘pleasant’ stuff. Now, I could understand this being a thing if I only played DBD online, but I don’t. I’ve played The Last of Us, GTA 5, FT13 and Uncharted 4 for years too. So what is it about this game that either seems to attract nasty people or bring the nasty out in people? It’s almost becoming like some weird cult. The amount of people that get GENUINELY hurt by having their pixels get killed in a game is alarming. I know this is a game about either surviving or being killed, but I think it’s actually got a player base made up of mostly psychopaths.
Telling people that you want them to die, or have family members being raped etc is NOT and will NEVER BE normal behaviour. It actually baffles my mind how many deviants I’m playing with or against.
I don’t remember it ever being this bad in 2017 / 2018. But since 2019 it’s becoming a rarity not having somebody message you after a game.
Man I turned the messages off...and then they just sent friend requests with messages attached. I have no idea. Never really saw hate on PS4. It was way worse on Xbox and PC.

See, you say that, but, as was said above me, SWF goes to the lowest denominator. I've run into people where a red rank was queuing with their green rank friend, and honestly didn't see much of a difference between them in skill. I've played enough of the game I can tell, roughly, where people fall on the skill level, and green and red shouldn't feel equivalent. My last game today I got wrecked extremely hard by four legit red ranks on the new map. I haven't played it before as killer, only as survivor, so I was struggling from that perspective as well, sure. But at the same time, two games on Shelter Woods with me as the same killer, both with 3/4 red ranks, if I 4ked one extremely easily and 0ked with barely any hooks the other...that seems to imply there's more going on than the color of their rank. And I find the later I play, the more the "actually good" reds come out, which we seem to agree on.
I've been to rank 1 as a surv and a killer. Back in 2017 I'd consider myself a legit red killer, now I think I'm about purple, maybe green until I get the rest of the rust off of my play (so many whiffed hits lately...) Survivor? No way I'm actually a red. I cannot loop, I cannot extend chases to save my virtual life. I'm good at gens and not being found. If I'm found, I'm going on that hook fairly quickly. Unless it's a Nurse, then I can run for the length of the game (due to maining Nurse in 2017 and her nerf making the same tricks absolutely devastating to her now). But the point being, I don't belong in red ranks as a survivor, and yet I've been there multiple times. So rank doesn't imply skill after a certain point.
I'm not necessarily going to disagree. I've made it to red as killer and I'm not that great. But I just happened to get a lucky streak where I was winning all the time. Now it seems like I can't do anything. Never get a 4k. But I also never drop below a certain rank when I get there. Like I might go from purple to green at worst. So your argument doesn't really account for half of mine.
If you are staying red consistently, you can't be absolute trash. You are either consistently winning,or at least doing the minimum requirements to safety. People can have bad games and unlucky streaks as well. Like I'm not the best at looping, but the other day I ran a killer long enough to pallet stun him 4 times, and for the team to get three gens on. Then he camped and whacked me over and over.
I'm not saying rank is the be all end all of skill. I'm just saying that it's not completely meaningless. Yeah maybe a team carried you,I can admit that's a possibility. Maybe you caught them before they deranked, whatever. Still had to get there somehow. If it was so easy, everyone would be red. I've killed reds, and I've seen reds that were so beyond my skill level it was obvious from the first chase.
Regardless,I just think it would be nice to have a new matchmaking system. Even if players are just getting the perception that they can't win because they are getting matched against high rank players,it's not good. Maybe not all the high rank players are the best, but there's post every day from newer players where it's becoming frustrating. Literally almost every day. I've only seen the shoe on the other foot one time. I was like rank 15 and it put us against a rank 2 Huntress.

I still feel like it's none of them and people are going to be surprised. Honestly I'm kind of hoping. I'd love if it was someone nobody thought of.

I agree that rank by itself doesn't matter, but the issue comes in where you, typically, run into boosted reds pairing with purples/greens/yellows to lower the killer they're against through most of the morning/early afternoon, and then suddenly after dinner it's all the good reds on. This is something I've tracked the last two times I burned out on DbD and stopped playing - I don't like there being a meta shift that's literally trackable by what time of day it is.
Matchmaking giving me the reds I run into in the morning and early afternoon are one thing, I can deal with them and have a good track record against them. If I play much later than when I'm typing this right now, I'm going to be absolutely lucky to get a brutal killer endscreen. If I'm against red ranks all day, then the stats would show I win against 50% of reds as a purple. But that's not actually indicative of where my skill level is. Which is why matchmaking is so broken.
Kind of a well known...I dunno what to call it because "myth" doesn't really fit...But it's always tossed around in the gaming community that the best players play in the evening or at night. Pretty much for any game. Might be some truth to it. A lot of the streamers and stuff stream in the evening, and people have certain responsibilities. I don't know if it's necessarily true, but I've heard it said many times on many different games. You didn't get to rank 1 doing absolutely nothing. Even if you only did two gens and nothing else, you would safety. So at the very least you won a ton of matches, and were dedicated enough to play said matches. If you are super horrible you aren't going to stay in the red for long. Are some not that much better? Of course. But some can be miles away. They might not even necessarily be good at looping, but they have their flashlight, and know every trick in the book.

Fix it.
Hey man,at least you are green and have actually played the game before. Not some rank 20 that popped the game in and didn't even put any perks on.

But wouldn't it have had the key at the end screen if he used it to escape or am I wrong
Oh yeah, that's right. Forgot you keep depleted items. Plus the collapse would've triggered. Plus there weren't enough gens on to even use the key. How many people were left? I'm thinking it was just a display error. Like instead of the D/C thing it showed the door. Did you see if he got any points?
