I only have one question which shouldn't be that hard to answer

Why have fog whispers if you don't listen to their advice?

    They're a promotional tool

I'll try to keep this shorter than my last post, but to touch upon a few of the points you've brought up:

1: On the subject of The Nurse, using pick rates as a determining factor is very shaky territory. First, you've gotta consider the fact that part of the reason she's picked less often is due in part to the bugs with her power. Even if someone likes The Nurse and is doing moderately well with her, it's totally within the realm of possibility that the bugs were too frustrating for them to continue playing. Secondly, pick rate is not a universal thing. While it stands it reason that she may not be picked at lower skill levels (owing to her higher learning curve), she becomes far more popular at higher skill levels. I won't speak for everyone, but I'm assuming at least some people would like to see more Killers pop up regularly in the higher skill levels.

But beyond this, The Nurse's bug fixes is also a prime example of something that has come up a lot over the years. Often times we're asked to focus on things like game health rather than content / balance, and The Nurse and her various bugs was often tied directly to that as a poster child of sorts. Fixing these issues did require a complete redo of her coding, but it's a prime example of us doing exactly that: Putting content / balance to the side to focus on fixing things. I totally understand if you're not pumped for this next Mid-Chapter, but it's a pretty shocking reaction to something that was asked of us very often (focusing on fixes/game health over content).

2: To think point of Circle of Healing, I just want to say that this is absolutely not something we're ignoring. We make a point out of letting things settle before making rash decisions these days. Between PTBs & live these days, the changes we make are almost always fairly minor. We've been burned in the past by making rash decisions when the initial feedback was rough. Nowadays, we try to let everything have some time to settle before we start thinking about how it should change. This gives us a better idea of where it actually sits rather than making a knee jerk reaction and hoping it works out. Circle of Healing is an even trickier scenario since it came bundled with an entirely new mechanic (boons), so it's very important that we see how things work before diving head first into changes.

That said, though, I can't reveal if/what will happen to Circle of Healing right here, just please keep in mind that there's always a cycle that looks like this:

    • Something releases
    • Wait for it to settle
    • Determine if changes are needed
    • Create changes

3: On the subject of Freddy, I feel like this something that often gets misconstrued as well. In reality, kill rates only play a small role. You compared him to The Nurse, and I'm really glad you did because she's the perfect example of why that's not the case. The Nurse overall has a fairly low kill rate (well below the rest of Killers), but that doesn't mean she's weak. She's tough to play, and in the right hands, she can be hands down the best. But that also isn't necessarily a problem because there's a ton of skill that goes into playing her extraordinarily well, and there's also a lot of skill that goes into playing against her well.

In the case of Freddy, on the other hand, you had a Killer that was very strong without needing much thought or skill. Dropping a couple traps at a loop would yield very strong results with very little risk or strategy. His slight tweaks aimed to make the strategy of spamming traps constantly while in a chase less viable.

On the point of lack of skill, I won't delve too far into this, but that is a very loaded point to make. Many developers play the game daily (typically not with BHVR tags in their name, they don't want to be recognized). I myself used to stream this game three times per week, and I was playing at the higher ranks just fine. Sure, not every game developer's going to be ready to jump on an eSports team, but expecting everyone working on a game to be able to play it at a competitive level is a frankly unrealistic standard, even if some of them are pretty good.

To the point you made about Freddy you say that he was very strong without needing much skill, which i don't disagree with but how does blanket nerfing him help facilitate more skillful play, he already doesn't have a very high skill ceiling like Nurse or blight so a blanket nerf like he received would just make him generally worse without giving some kind of reward for skillful play

Just out of curiosity for the killers who chase one survivor the whole match while all of the generators are popping, how is it satisfying to play this way?

I've been in many matches where the killer will chase me most if not all of the match and end up getting one kill because all the generators are done and the other survivors escape.

Even if I get rescued after one or two hooks, the killer keeps coming after me despite the generators being done allowing all the other survivors to escape. Thus resulting in one kill at the end.

I'm just wondering how this strategy or playstyle is satisfying for someone who plays killer? I'm not a killer main but it seems like a boring way to play. I would think that someone who plays killer would attempt to maximize hooks and kills in a match, but maybe I'm wrong after experiencing this over and over again.

It's not a matter of enjoyment for people who play like that, people who do that are inexperienced or super salty killers. Better killers know not to do this and if they are just salty over something then they're just seeing red over some construed slight.

as a hit. And I think it used to? But yeah, when you strike someone as they drop a pallet on you, I think it should count as either a down or an injured state. How about YOU?

It still does but the timing is tighter now

Why should i play twins even if i like her playstyle shes getting some nerf hard next patch again and she get destroy by boon.

For some reason i cant see a reason to play her unless i go afk for 30 game so my mmr can drop enough were survivor dont use boon.

Honestly can't give you a reason, Twins is in a really bad spot right now, she's not fun to play against because of their very encouraged playstyle but they also aren't fun and bhvr has made them feel very clunky and have weakened them significantly since launch.

Twins needs a full rework to reward using her power but also not reward super unfun playstyles that just leaves people on the ground for minutes.

Unfortunately bhvr probably won't do that since that would require a lot of work so they'll just keep doing small tweaks that ultimately won't fix her core issues.

both sides have insanely boring gameplay atm. its heal fast af, and pre drop pallets with second chance perks vs all gen slowdowns. its a very boring meta i think needs to be addressed to fix the game. but yea.

I agree, the meta is super boring and has been for years, the fact that there hasn't been a new game mode really exacerbates this issue.

That's what daily rituals already do, no?

I'm fairly sure that its tailored to primarily give you rituals to the side you play less, seeing as 90% of my rituals are always Killer ones.

I mean its not a very good incentive tbh, those dailies aren't worth #########.

It starts and ends with the impression of BHVR as being 'survivor favored', which does set up an 'us vs them' issue. And I must say, while it's not as bad as it once was, I do think that there is at least a double standard in play.

When one 'side' of your game is making about 90% of the 'I'm frustrated, this role is too frustrating' posts on the forums, that definitely suggests that something is wrong.

Yes killer has become far more frustrating over the past couple years but its not survivors fault. Also don't act like survivors don't have legitimate problems of their own, killers are rewarded far too heavily for a gameplay style that just isn't fun to play against, I dont care if it's the easier and more effective way to play it's not fun to go against.

This is the problem, I'm not arguing one side over the other, I'm saying that bhvr has made tons of poor design decisions that have led the community to fight each other because the balance on each side is very different and most people main one side and even when they play the other they still see the game from their preferred side.

  • I've had it uninstalled since like a week or 2 before the CoH patch hit the ptb I've wanted to come back but only because there isn't a decent competitor in the genre yet. Hopefully one comes around so I can stop bothering to keep tabs on the game.

I don't know what it is but I just feel mentally drained just being apart of this community. Maybe I'm crazy but it seems like the community I'd just becoming more and more divided as the game progress and its just depressing and not too fun. Maybe I'm spending to much time on the forum and on dbd in general. Am I being ridiculous or are others feeling the same and is this a sign I need to take a break from dbd?

Nah you're probably right. The community has gotten far more divided in the last year or 2 with the us vs them mentality between killer and survivor when both sides should want the other side to be just as fun to keep the whole playerbase healthy.

  • Look I liked playing BBB every once in awhile, not often but feeling the power and stupidity of tinkerer ruin and undying on blight could be fun every once in awhile.

  • @AgtClappers said:

Hi, I'm still a new player because I have just 150h of playtime and I play the game for less than 2 months so I didn't know the game before and because I'm (I think) still not in highest MMR, maybe all nerfs that they made aren't a problem for now but I'm wondering about something, maybe it's obvious but I don't understand the devs logic.

It seems that they continuely nerf killers side even if the game is already unbalanced for survivors side but... They know if there are no longer killers, the game will not survive, I mean, how do you want to play as survivors without a killer ? They will put bots to keep their game alive ?...

I don't know this dev team but it seems that they aren't playing their own game, otherwise they wouldn't do as much as bad changes and controversial ones I guess. So why they don't ask to the community what to change ?

I play a bit more killer side and even if I enjoy it so much, it's really more stressful than survivor side, proof that the game is unbalanced imo + a lot of players are complaining about killer side, something is wrong no ?

BHV made a lot of games but isn't DBD the most famous one ? The game earns them a lot of money I guess so maybe it would be smart to listen players and keep the game alive no ? I'm not a dev but it seems logic in my mind..

Long story short the devs dont understand their own logic either. Their company feels like a many headed beast where each head has its own opinion 9n how things should be done and through the constant fighting they, every month and a half release an update some how.

  • When deciding what things to slam into to bounce off of general rules I go for is that a solid wall is safe, any long structures such as laid down logs or trash loops are usually okay if you hit them dead on, cars are a big no no, rocks are a coin flip, and killer shack is butter if hit at the right angle. Unfortunately there are a lot more loops and some are or aren't good for your power and you are gonna have to learn where to hit in those loops at what times to use properly. He has a massive skill ceiling but is also very janky sometimes and isn't always consistent on what things you can or can't bounce off of.

Other tips would be to learn blight without addons as much as possible or just minor ones since he does have some overtly busted addons that I feel have to be nerfed eventually so don't become reliant on them. Also learn which loops to use your power on cause it's certainly not all of them, a general rule of thumb is that if it's a small rounding loop don't bother just play it normally and get the pallet out of the way and hit them with your power while they are running to the next loop if possible or just chase them there.

One more thing is that blight requires a lot of mechanical skill on top of requiring at least decent map and looping knowledge to use his power effectively so although over using your power will generally be a detriment to you and is something you will want to avoid, doing so early to get a better feel for his power is not a bad idea either

If it had description. I would watch at least two for each killer he played, one with 4k and one with escapes. Then probably more with my mains, because well, I understand those more...

So minimum 44 matches since he played 22 of the 26 killers and then plus however many matches you'd wish to watch of your mains?

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2735363#Comment_2735363

Yeah nothing will come from this but it was still fun to make :)

    Fair enough

  • All it tells me is that they just never looked at swf stats before SBMM came out.

  • And a dev with any amount of influence will never read those and me reading them will accomplish nothing healthy either, I wish that wasn't the case but it is. Fog whisperers have tried similar things out and they actually communicate directly with bhvr and basically nothing came from it.

True,BHVR will find a way of running Blight because of the addon pass, look at billy as an example, people just wanted some addons to be tuned down a bit, looks at his state now

As a previous Billy main and a current blight main if I ever see the words blight addon pass come out of a devs mouth I'm gonna have ptsd

  • @ad19970 said:

Some of his addons need to be toned down a bit. That's it. Blight at base is not op, he is arguably the most balanced killer in the game for high level play.

This is starting to give me flashback to the billy debate before his "rework" where the vast majority of players are completely okay with and really enjoy blights base kit but he had a few outlier addons that make him busted. ISTG if they do an addon pass and also touch his base kit I'm gonna sue buvr for mental damages.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2734756#Comment_2734756

No, he does not. You are commentating on a very small sample size of games he recorded and analyzed. In several matches he got very lucky with a bunch of suiciding potatoes, and in a larger sample size those become the minority, not the norm. And does that mean you admit that one of the best killers in the game has to play incredibly sweaty or they're at risk of being steamrolled? I'm not sure why you're trying so hard to portray the realities of this game inaccurately. The point of having video data for a LARGE sample size is to be able to do qualitative and quantitative scrutiny, this isn't hard.

I'll take that as a no

Wait, is that a thing? So even though I am an Aussie player I might end up vsing people playing from USA? (that would roughly be their pings)

It seemed like you could just be queued with people from adjacent regions so for instance if someone is on US east servers you might get paired with someone from the EU if I read it correctly.

  • @GuyFawx said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2734806#Comment_2734806

Lol agreed it is stressful when they know to tap you traps on purpose

Killer in general is just more stressful for most people, you have to constantly be doing things to do well, but at least teammates can't sandbag you since you don't have any.

  • Ironically I think they just made it so you would consistently get worse ping with the whole multiple region queuing thing.

  • @MrPeanutbutter said:

Reading discussions over the past couple of days and seems like a lot of other killer players are rightfully feeling ######### on because of the devs completely ignoring the broken CoH perk in this update. It’s clear now that killer feedback won’t be listened to, so if you play killer and want things to change, the only way that’s going to happen is to stop playing killer. Make survivor queues go through the roof until enough survivors complain that the devs will maybe think about quality of life improvements for the killer side. I play both sides about equally so I have seen how frustrating CoH is for the killer side and how much easier it has make my matches on the survivor side. The only people who think CoH is “fine” are 1) killers who live and breathe the game and are good enough to stomp most teams no matter what; and 2) people who have never played killer, at least above non-noob survivors

Unfortunately this likely won't work at least not immediately since it would take a large amount of killers to quite worldwide to actually affect anything, it would also take killers of many skill levels to quit too since they can just broaden the MMR range for killers and as long as new players keep joining they would just have to wait it out and nothing would change. Plus I honestly don't think BHVR has a side bias I think they just have no clue what they're doing.

  • @foxsansbox said:

I wish the people who recorded these stats kept video logs so we could view the quality of their opponents.

You gonna watch all 200 matches even if they had?

  • @Regulus47 said:

...so even with the MMR that killers are complaining about, killers are STILL winning 75% of their matches? I thought this game was survivor sided lol

It's not consistent. I've seen plenty of survivors with and escape rate of like 80% but I guess since they kind of even out to 2.0 but the individual matches generally suck for one side.

  • @Aneurysm said:

Nurse bugfixes and reducing DH rejection effects sounds nice but what is there to actually test, really?

Nothing really, maybe the few perk and addon changes but they're so minor that it's not even close to worth it.

I don't think it was a "lazy patch", there are a ton of Nurse fixes as well that weren't mentioned in the update. (Not that I play Nurse but I'm guessing Nurse mains will be happy about all the fixes.)

honestly I'm sure those bug fixes have been cooking for months or longer and I mean credit where credit is due but I'd still say it was pretty lazy since them fixing a killer that's been broken for years doesn't seem like something that deserves a gold star

  • @AngyKiller said:

Also no CoH nerf, when even the majority of Survivors say healing speeds are broken.

It's less 'The devs listen to Survivors' and more 'The devs don't listen to anyone'.

That's what I've been saying for a while now that a lot of players don't seem to understand and it's very unhelpful when the community at large is just fighting amongst ourselves when the problem isn't that BHVR has a preferential side it's that BHVR has no idea what they are doing and decide to balance things based on a spreadsheet then use a dartboard to decide how they want to go about balancing said thing

  • "Omg people are excited about something better go tell them how stupid they are for the heavy sin of enjoying a franchise" - your nasty ass

I agree he’s not a great killer typically. With Pinkie he wasn’t one of the worst though, he was actually pretty good because of the instant downs. Still not top tier or anything, but good.

I don't disagree and honestly, my issue isn't that pinkie finger got nerfed. My problem is more with why they decided to, in the same patch, nerf 2 clown addons and buff a blight addon, which is still gonna be awful anyway. It's the direction this patch is leading the game that I have a massive problem with, namely just looking at what has high use rates and what has low use rates and balancing around that and it being an overall super lazy patch only made it worse

  • "We didn't like where the Twins are currently so we've made it so instead of victor returning to Charlotte after a certain number of time being on someones back he now straight up dies when crushed and can't be used for the rest of the game"

  • Probably because they apparently need months to years of data to prove what everyone has been telling them. Kinda like the difference in effectiveness between solo Q and SWF

With how popular Elden ring is his viewers might even go up

  • Its just such a boring and lazy update. It almost feels like they announced the bubba mask thing, something that will be extremely easy, and something they knew would be highly praised by most people(though I don't see why they got rid of the other 3) just to shift the convo around this mid chapter to that instead of the stunning lack of content in this patch.

All this effort from such an appreciated influencer of Dbd to improve the game, and little feedback from the devs on the important things that matter in "the real world" (of Dbd), as always.

The Twins changes (and the Twins themselves because of how Frustrating it is to play them because of all their issues) just show how detached from the reality of Dbd the devs are, or that they're purposely ignoring the frustration and the feedback.

I don't wanna list in this post all the bad and frustrating things Dbd has, just the massive hacker epidemic and circle of healing are enough, but I will say this:

We already lost some streamers during time, we'll lose Dowsey and others forever MAYBE when VHS open beta and the full game comes out, and we'll lose Scott Jund maybe( he said he will just focus on it and nothing else, maybe he could get pissed by Dbd and leave it forever) ,and Tru3ta1ent DEFINITELY (he said it himself) when Elden Ring will come out. And many little others like Marth, Space Coconut.

I don't wanna lose even Otz forever, pls devs, do something!

Save Dbd, and don't let so many streamers leave, because it's very possible that Otz could leave Dbd for Elden Ring, even if he doesn't say it.

Its honestly really sad to see otz so defeated, I don't always agree with otz on everything but I recognize that he has way more experience with the game and comes at his arguments and points far more positively then almost any other content creator.
