Played a match this afternoon on Xbox against a couple of two stacks. One SWF played Haddonfield, the other Coldwind. We got Rotten Fields. I’m Demogorgon.

I hook a Blendette and a Dwight starts a chase at the jungle gym right by the hook. This potato on the hook messages me while I am chasing the Dwight and complains that I am camping and calling me some naughty names. So I ignored Dwight and beat her on the hook until she dies. The SWF buddy was a Meg with a flashlight, she spams the light and gets downed then quits out.

They start spamming with invites and messages about camping. Like, how deep does survivor entitlement go with some people that you can see me literally chasing someone else near the hook and you’re still going to complain about camping? Why wouldn’t you be angry at the obvious problem, Dwight?

  • Is it a casual game?

Like, is that a stated aspect of its design?

For sure his map pressure is above Freddy just requires set up. Cooldown is only 14 seconds per teleport with the roughly the same travel time.

The portals can also be used for tracking if survivors get near them while activated/can't be destroyed until used once...

Then Shred is an amazing anti loop if demo ever has sight on you he'll attack you from 11 meters away and you have 1 second to react.

If you do react demo could fake and you're now poorly placed open for an M1.

STBFL with 8 stacks you can M1 then shred immediately to double attack since they won't get the distance.

You can gain a lot of distance by using surge on a hill. You'll keep up with bl even.

    Demo is amazing.

Not gonna lie, that's a good pitch. I bought him like a week ago, haven't played him yet, but I like his style. Maybe it's time to give him a try.

Should only be able to be used on Other survivors not the survivor wielding.

The Devs seem to have no interest in fixing the BUG where when you are about to down a survivor, you infact get that MAGICAL second hit, and suddenly they tapped spacebar and are now fully healed.

Is that what that is? I had a similar experience in a game earlier, downed a guy and he popped right back up to full in an instant.

  • @BBQnDemogorgon said:

I agree i feel like a lot of people underestimate the new Freddy. People don't realize you can spam the crap out of those snares to make most loops unsafe.

Plus he doesn't lose speed or bloodlust placing them so if you trap a loop so its unsafe getting to a new one will also be unsafe.

Demogorgon also seems to be underrated its like people don't give them enough of a chance and learn the tricks needed to see that they're actually god tier.

You really think Demogorgon can be god tier? I am intrigued by this.

    @Hoodied said:

I cannot explain the amount of love for Freddy I have, his snares I just love so much! I am starting to get better as him too at teleporting, making it a massacre and a helluva time to play!

    Thanks Devs!

Freddy is awesome, for sure. It's nice to have a meta killer that's basically an M1 guy with awesome mobility and control. I really don't want to play Nurse or Spirit.

  • Nice thread. A little perspective goes a long way.

I like it, because it allows me to play killers I can't play in higher ranks.

Ditto. Tried playing my level 10 Clown against a 4man SWF earlier at purple ranks.

No thanks. I'll probably stick with Freddy until reset.

  • I like it. The more atmosphere, the better.

  • Kicking honestly feels pointless without Pop.

But Pop can also be annoying to use and has to be unlocked.

It would seem to me that the kick itself should do enough damage so that tapping it without committing to it would be a gamble. IE, maybe he commits to the chase and you lead him away, saving the gen... or maybe you pausing the regression just makes him go back and kick it again, doing even more damage.

Obviously not full Pop damage, but enough to make it so at least two can play at that game.

Not really lol. Survivors know well how to loop the poor doc unfortunately.

Both are true. Doctor is the killer I've played most and I can confirm that is a life filled both with endless looping and salty DCs.

  • The emblem system is literally a joke. People laugh about it.

  • I watched a stream earlier where a killer came back from almost certain defeat and 4ked everyone with all the gens done but before the exit gates were opened. A couple people bled out because he had to fight for like five minutes straight to end the chain of revives as it was a swamp map and everyone was spread out.

The reward for this epic battle? Depip. Entity Displeased.

    Yes, it is indeed significant.

Which is why i wanted to stop my argument with OP.

Because it's based on opinion on whether that's good or not.

And i think it's more than fine that a game that is updated regularly for years asks you to invest a lot.

If you disagree, cool, i don't mind one bit.

    Fair enough.

As a kinda new player, I have yet to notice any changes. Getting teachables is still a pain in the ass. So far I've played 60 hours and my player level is 39 and have only 2 teachables. BBQ and ruin

Not for new players, sadly. Only kicks in at 40+ on killers, after the range at which you unlock teachables.

Does investment happen only at 40+?

There are 17 killers, it's about 1 million BP to get level 40 on 1 killer, so we're talking about 17 million BP -- a conservative estimate -- to unlock all teachables.

Regardless of our individual opinions about the grind, I think (or at least hope)we can all agree that 17 million bloodpoints represents a significant investment.

  • I remain of the opinion that nobody who's run PWYF Bubba would think he's the worst killer. A full-on speedy Bubba build is a nightmare in close quarters.

    image.png
  • I'd settle for a buff, I like the overall concept of the perk. Basement builds are always going to be niche, but it's a cool facet of the game. It's really the only time killers get to be real killers as opposed to playing Generator Defense: the Game.

I'm not sure how exactly I would buff it, though. Maybe increase the rescue time and give a noise notification or something.

  • As a killer main, I like the idea from a fun standpoint. It seems brutally unbalanced, though.

Firstly, there's no way to keep track of whether people are using this to punish toxic players or not. It's so open to abuse. Secondly, it's not your job to punish toxic players. We have a report system for toxic behaviour which actually affects gameplay.

People who teabag have no effect on actual gameplay, except perhaps that sometimes they lose chases because they're wasting time doing it. They are only doing it to piss you off. Don't give them what they want, don't let yourself get tilted by it. Just ignore it and play the game, and use their cockiness to your advantage if you get the chance. Bully psychology 101: if they don't get a reaction out of you, they'll lose interest. That's how you deal with people like that, not by creating an overpowered game mechanic designed to make a vigilante of the killer.

I agree with this. The best way to punish BMers is to catch them slipping.

I once turned a 1k into a 3k during EGC because one guy kept bagging and point-spamming me at the exit gate. He was trying to distract me from someone on hook nearby to enable a rescue. Joke's on him, I was playing Myers and all he did was feed me a free EW3. So I killed him and the Claudette that had been hiding nearby for the rescue.

    Felt good.

So with the change of nurse's add-ons, most ppl just assumed they'd be gutted. We get to replace OP add-ons with ones that inflict blindness or something, lol. With the latest update however, they showed 3 examples. One of which being the add-on to show you your blink location is getting a QOL buff, and going from very rare to common. Can we expect more Nurses at lower ranks with this? Thoughts?

Hopefully. It's in no way good for the game to have a killer with such an extreme range in performance. When people talk about Nurse being OP, they're talking about the best. Even in the case of people who haven't played her forever, they're usually highly experienced players who already know most of the maps by heart, how to predict survivor movements, etc.

From what I can tell, most Nurses -- and this goes double on console -- suck. In the wrong hands, she goes from one of the strongest killers to the weakest. It would be cool to see more of a middle ground, where a Nurse player can put out a decent performance while still learning.

  • It would be nice to see a discussion about game issues that doesn't immediately devolve into fifty pages of sweaty ad hominem attacks.

  • That's absurd, Stephen King would never insert himself to a horror story.

I'm sure it'll just be one of his many skinny, dark-haired, glasses-wearing writer characters instead.

I don't have any answers but to hang back on the swing and try to get a sense for their movement pattern before committing. It's quite an annoying thing to face due to the killer's limited FoV.

I play a game or two on Bubba whenever I've gotten tired of dealing with jukes. Smart survivors run away, cocky ones wind up in the dirt while I do the squealing happy dance.

  • Haddonfield, home to circus acrobats everywhere.

  • I wanted to say yes to there being a secret killer society, but when coming up with names for it I got distracted and ended up with a ska band named Bubba and the Basement Dwellers.

    I've avoided buying perks I don't want

Thats what you are doing wrong. Every web buy the perk. Not buying it will only make it show up later. The fist 49 levels are the cheapest you're going to get. After that its 50k+ every web.

Another thing that could possible be in addition to what I said above. Do you have BBQ Teachable unlocked? You can tell by selecting Leatherface and pressing F1 on your keyboard. If BBQ has a checkmark then it's unlocked.

Yes, BBQ is the first thing I go for on every killer. I've never had one go all the way up to level 26 without unlocking it before, hence my frustration. I unlocked it in the Shrine when it appeared a couple months back.

    @FireHazard said:

    @Xboned

Yes, you should just level up those perks to their max tier to get rid of them completely. The Blood-Web likes to commonly give perks that're almost finished, and if those perks are almost done they'll keep appearing more often than others.

If you keep doing what you're doing you'll eventually get the perks you want, but it's better to just get rid of them so they stop appearing all together. Some perks like to also show up sometimes 2 times or even 3 times in a row to just complete them all together, albeit is rare for that to happen...

I see. Well, it's a little annoying to learn that my efforts to save BP might actually cost me more in the long run. Every time I think I have this system figured out, the Entity likes to give me a good hard smack.

Thanks for the answers folks, I'll stop skipping perks.

  • As others have pointed out, your friends should really be playing custom games with you to help you learn the basics. While I empathize with the frustration of anyone new to this game, they shouldn't have pulled you into high-ranked play right away.

Yeah when bubba is in the basement it gets pretty hardcore. I think this is what most bubbas try to do. Fair enough

From my experience legion is the weakest. It just seems no good players play on him.

This. Aside from having some decent builds available (anything that boosts his movement speed makes him scary), basement Bubba is an almost guaranteed bad time for survivors. If he grabs someone, just say goodbye and dedicate the next gen to their memory.

  • @BenZ0 said:

But I wonder why do you want to derank? What are the reasons to smurf or play on lower ranks? I honestly kind of "smurfed" by playing and helping out a low ranked friend for bloodpoints but I was bored as hell. I always dominated all games in 1-3min and that was not fun for me and for them so yea, I wonder why you want to ruin ppl experience?

It's really easy to rank past your skill level and then end up in match after match with people way better than you. It's pretty miserable.

It's happened to me a couple times, especially when I was new. When I first started, I dominated on Hillbilly until I started running into survivors who knew not to run straight lines in open areas. I'd never really learned any other skills than chainsawing, so I was totally out of my depth.

Second time was my first serious grinding marathon on Doctor, I cleaned up in ranks where Overcharge and madness were enough to throw survivors off their game. Then I started meeting survivors that weren't fazed at all by skill checks and once again realized how outmatched I was.

I've never AFKed through a match to derank, I try to give 100% every time even if I'm hating every moment of it, but I will start playing around with new builds or low level killers.

    • Don't run Ruin to hurt the Gatekeeper emblem (this emblem almost only about of using Ruin)
    • Play Killers unable to get points in Chaser Emblem (one-shoting like Myers, Billy, etc. and play Plague)
    • Use mori's to hurt Devout emblem (Devour Hope and Rancor are good choice)
    • Play for fun (ex: Piggy with PWYF crouching behind the obsession, killers also want to have fun)

4 adwices bcs of which you'll most likely never reach red and purple ranks and you'll be able to play much more strategies.

Or, like this gentleman observed, I start playing Myers or Bubba. Typically Bubba, because he's my favorite killer for blowing off steam due to his simplicity and ease of use.

  • It's crazy to me that there are people who think Bubba is the worst killer. Low tier for the present meta, sure, but worst? I really have trouble wrapping my head around that one.

  • As many others have said, wiggle is the only thing between you and the basement.

The moment you take it away, there will be an army of Leatherfaces squealing and revving their chainsaws with glee. The new meta will become "just let them die".

I'm rank 1 killer and survivor. But mostly a killer main. (Doctor)

I'm seeing A LOT of people on here complaining about gen speed. When in all honesty, it's not true. Gen speed is fine. Gens are not the problem imo.

The actual problem is the maps.

I use to main wraith. (Before he was buffed) and realized VERY quickly that he is NOT a red rank killer. So I started playing others. But seemed to get the same results. Other killers made things easier. (Nurse, Spirit) but I couldn't get a grasp on what I was doing wrong.

Then I realized it wasnt me. I'm not saying I didn't make any mistakes. I'm saying the reason I was losing was and still is sometimes, out of my control.

    The problem isn't gen speed.

It's map design and the fact that survivors have A LOT to use.

20+ pallets. Insta heals. Perks that have A LOT more synergy than killer perks.

    I'm not suggesting survivor nerfs.

    I'm suggesting map nerfs.

If you had one survivor just run from pallet to pallet (without mindgames) and the rest on gens, 3 to 4 gens will pop before all the pallets are gone.

Some people will say it's gen speed but it's all about pressure.

And depending on the map, pressure will be easier. (The Game) or harder. (Any map with a lot of pallets and windows)

This isn't a rant because I do just fine at rank 1.

This is simply a post to let the "gen speed" killers know what I feel the real problem is.

And to my fellow killers out there struggling... just keep putting in time. It'll all get better.

    Thank you.

I've got nothing to say but that I agree with this.

  • @TragicSolitude said:

Nothing like getting so horribly abandoned by a fellow survivor that even the killer is like "#########" and takes pity on you.

Had that happen at least once during the event. Me and one other survivor are left. Exit gates are powered. I ran the killer around for a good bit, and I run back towards the gate, and I get there, and... it's untouched. I just came to a complete halt, looked around, looked at the killer. The killer looked looked at me, looked around. We just stood there for a moment, and then I walked over and started opening the gate and he just let me. It was both frustrating (the other remaining survivor came out of hiding with a bird over his head) and... well, you ever seen a visibly confused Demogorgon? It was pretty damn funny.

I had to give the exit to a few survivors during Blood Hunt because their teammates were either atrociously inept or horribly selfish. It was honestly an eye-opening experience.

There was one game in particular where a guy gets downed in the first minute, instant DC. Kept playing, managed to hook everyone, then another guy suicides on first hook. It was honestly depressing, I just didn't have it in me to keep chasing the other two.

So I just let them fix the generators, then I opened the gate for them. Doctor Butler, at your service.

    @Mister_Holdout said:

A lot of people consider solo survivor to be the most miserable experience in the game (I certainly do).

This is mostly due to a high number of incompetent survivors in the player pool.

In my opinion, the biggest litmus test for a good teammate is how well they loop. If you're playing in red ranks, looping is pretty much a requirement to be successful. Unfortunately, it's very common to have one or two weak links who get easily downed, thus, allowing the killer to build up momentum.

Yup. Solo survivor is without a doubt the most challenging way to play this game. I have no stomach for it whatsoever and reserve a measure of compassion for those who do. While I don't like to be too nice of a killer, I'm not going to sit there and meme or farm with people, it's no fun killing people when there's no challenge.

On the bright side, backstabbing survivors are my favorite squishies to kill. Even moreso than well-coordinated SWF groups. Even better if I can let their victims know that I saw the nonsense they tried to pull and punished them specifically for it.

  • @TragicSolitude said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/724604#Comment_724604

Actually, since the killer can see the survivors in the lobby pre-game, it's very probable he saw the two keys and figured the survivors were not going to be fun to play against. It's very possible he only burned the mori because of those keys.

Yup. Only time I ever brought an ebony mori, it was because I recognized the names of an SWF group I'd gotten rolled by earlier that day and saw they brought 3 toolboxes this time.

I was like NOT TODAY, SATAN.

That said, I think a lot of survivors and killers are blaming each other for what's essentially an arms race that almost nobody enjoys.

  • I don't always reply to trash talkers, but when I do it's usually with a patronizing guilt trip. If they rage quit early and rant at me about it, I let them know they doomed their teammates. If they narrowly escape and brag about it while leaving someone behind, I make sure they know about the wounded teammate they abandoned to die.

I'm a big fan of the "slasher that punishes the wicked" trope.

For Myers, I like using the green glass shard addon, which gives you 5 seconds of aura reading whenever you stalk someone for 1 second. Doing this will let you screw with people around junglegyms that let you break LOS. I end up stalking for the aura reading so much, the T3 kinda gets ACCIDENTALLY prepared.

Interesting... I've always wondered about how useful that add-on would be in practice. I'll have to give it a try sometime. Now that I've got some real BPs going, I'll be less miserly with my consumables.

Myers is one of those killers that I desperately want to enjoy, but he's very feast-or-famine -- either you snowball really hard, or you completely fall on your face. The thing that I love about Freddy (and Spirit) is that they are pure, 100%, highly mobile "relentless pursuit" killers who don't have to spend time "doing stuff" to prepare (Trapper has to pick up/set traps, Myers has to spend time stalking, Clown has to reload his bottles, etc.). Hillbilly is next on my list of killers to catch up with all perks, and then I think I will have my "mains" rotation finished.

To your point about Freddy: Yeah, he basically just replaces Clown's power set wholesale. He's so much fun.

That's exactly what I love about Freddy. He doesn't have one single overpowering tool, he has multiple tools -- each of which alone wouldn't be enough to turn a match, but they combine to give him unrivaled adaptability. There's no phase of the match where's he weak, no spot on the map is safe. He can come at you from any direction at any time.

By contrast, I feel like all the killers you listed are reliant on survivor mistakes. In a way, it feels like being required to ask for permission. Freddy doesn't ask, Freddy just takes.

even clown can get kinda nasty with his pinky finger add-on.

    but let's not include add-ons.

This is tougher, but I'd still put Wraith ahead. He has uniquely strong interactions with perks like Play with Your Food and Make Your Choice. I can't think of anything in Clown's base kit that synergizes quite as well with specific perks.

That said, I would probably pick Clown if I personally had to play one of the two without add-ons. While I think Wraith has the potential to edge him out performance-wise, Clown is much more straightforward. Plus, I like control.

Love how you even changed your PFP. Now you know why I'm so nuts about him. got to download the new DLC this weekend and swapped out ruin for surge...feelsgoodman

Oh yeah, I'm all in on this. I've never really had a main before, Doctor is my most played but it's just because he gets lots of BP and I needed him at 35 for M&A on Myers. Myers himself can be a lot of fun but he is just so... damn.... slow.

I feel like a truly oppressive force when I play Freddy. And I no longer worry that I'll need to play Nurse or Spirit just to compete at a high level of play, which is great because I hate their gimmicks.

  • @Marcus said:

So, when are you gonna propose him 😂 ? ( I hope this doesn't offense you ).

Oh, once I break the news to Doctor that he's no longer my #1 BP farmer.

I'm not sure how well he'll take it... he'll probably be shocked. 😋

  • His build looks pretty basic, he's running stalk and power recovery add-ons with a BP offering. Looks like Ruin, Bamboozle, Brutal Strength, and BBQ for perks.

I don't see anything here that could do what you described and it seems odd to me that he would run add-ons to boost his power if he never used it, so I can only assume something bugged out in the match somehow.

  • Are we including add-ons in the discussion? Because Bing Bong can get kinda nasty with the right ones.

  • Haddonfield is one of my least favorite maps in the game because it's so annoying. As a Halloween fan, I should be excited whenever it pops up but I am not.

Any time I see survivors with a map offering for it, I die a little inside.

  • @FishFry247 said:

He is so good now, like every game I have with him rank 1 even I get like 4ks 80% lmao

I've wanted to play a high-tier character that isn't Nurse, Spirit, or Billy for a long time now. People seem mixed about where Freddy falls on the tier ranking, but to me he is easily S-tier. He's the only M1 killer that feels genuinely strategic in a match, like I can actively adapt to and play against whatever the survivors are trying to do.

I was happy with Myers for a while, but getting out of the scrub ranks led me to encounter survivors who weren't so easy to sneak up on. His slow start's a bit rough when you can't rely on people being oblivious enough to let you yank them off gens in the first couple minutes.

It doesn't hurt that I love Robert Englund and, even if Craven < Carpenter imho when it comes to cinematography, I love Freddy as a character. He's the only classic slasher that's really full of personality.

  • It depends on how my day's going, how the past few games have been going, etc.

If I just got done with a very frustrating game, odds are I'm going to rip through them like wet tissue paper. That's definitely a minority of the time, though.

Usually I'll give them warning slugs if I notice myself downing them too much. If they're noticeably bad in a chase, there's a good chance I'll give them the hatch or exit if they're still alive by endgame.

It really depends on how obviously inexperienced they are and how much they respect me as the killer. If they're wounded and rushing the hook, I feel it's my duty to show them why that's a bad idea. If they seem really scared and desperate, like hiding clumsily behind a tree in the middle of a chase, I probably won't death hook them.

    Probably.

Id suggest giving Doc a shot. His power helps negate alot of stealth, making tracking aton easier. Think of Doc as tracking training wheels. When I first started, I had alot of trouble finding and keeping track of survivors, so I played alot of Doc until I got abit better at it.

Can confirm that Doc is tracking on easy mode.

That mostly is because things like camping n stuff, not bugs.

I think it's due to a variety of reasons, I'm willing to include bad first experiences due to toxic play among them. I'd put hard money on the likelihood of potential fans being turned off due to the matchmaking bug during the release of the Stranger Things chapter, though.

Some of the other factors include the rather steep and opaque grind, the lack of any meaningful introduction to the game's mechanics, etc. It's generally unwelcoming to new players, which I think can be at least somewhat addressed.

In any case, my original comment wasn't meant to deny your premise (that the game will die without new content)but to add that it can stagnate due to QoL issues and player retention issues as well. They're not necessarily opposed, I'm all for regular releases of new content. I just think that people who criticize some of the very real issues we have now have points worth considering as well.

  • Probably the Asylum just for the sheer creep factor. I also play a lot of Doctor, so it's fun to get that map with him. Feels almost like something out of Silent Hill until the high speed chases start.

  • That's why there's a need for bug fixes and QoL changes. The metrics on Steam show that this game draws in a lot of new players but that most of them don't stay, leaving a fairly static pool of players overall.

1 2 3 4 5 … 9
