  • I haven't played Demo yet, but I might now. My experience on Pig left me wary of charged ambush maneuvers, so a little QoL buff is nice to see.

As for the SWF change: killers are people too. If you're rank 1 and your bro is rank 20, he can choose whether or not to play with you. I, as a rank 20 killer (just for the sake of argument), do not get to choose whether you, the rank 1, appear in my lobby or not.

SWF should be fun, but it shouldn't be a hard carry.

  • I don't even know, but I'm definitely excited.

Probably going to trot out the old Doctor (can get 30k per game without even killing anyone, 50-60k if I do)and use the proceeds to level up all my baby killers.

Doctor, Trapper, Myers, and Hillbilly are the only killers I have leveled to any meaningful degree. I want to be able to play them all, so there's a lot of work to be done. There are so many vital teachables I'm still missing.

  • @GrootDude said:

If you want ruin then use it. It isn’t even a good perk honestly, also, it is your job to kill the survivors and in order to do that, you have to stop them from doing gens.

Any advice for killers wanting to get away from Ruin?

I have very mixed feelings about the perk for a number of reasons, but I've yet to discover a similarly potent tool for slowing the game.

  • I feel like it's a crutch I'll have to give up one day, but I've really been enjoying Bitter Murmur for it's "I'm not losing, YOU'RE losing!" effect. If gens are going to get banged out so fast, I might as well get something out of it.

I've found it pretty helpful on low level killers and ones I'm not quite comfortable with yet.

Your sarcasm is noted. Take a moment to breathe some fresh air. Nobody’s saying a threat is just gonna arise instantly. I made this thread to get people’s opinions, not for them to point out obvious differences between the two. For instance, DBD drew inspiration from the 13th, but it didn’t rip it off. Same goes for HOD. They spice things up. Just, relax... nobody’s saying DBD’s just gonna cease to exist. HOD is just a chance at a bit of change. I enjoy both, regardless. :D

You're reading a lot of intent into my post that wasn't there. There was no sarcasm, either. I literally just looked it up and listed what I noticed first.

I like the idea of a larger world and more open-ended gameplay. My least favorite thing about this game is the constant rush. I would have been and still am open to alternative titles. This just doesn't look like one that's going to do much for me.

  • I looked the game up and I noticed a few things.

    • Not on consoles. I play DbD on Xbox. I don't really PC game anymore.
    • This in the description, "However, with anyone being able to become a hunter, you never know if your teammates are trustworthy or if one of them is just waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike." Is this another one of those games where I have to take turns between survivor and killer? I hate that. I like DbD because I don't have to play survivor if I don't want to.
    • Multiple highly rated Steam reviews saying this game is dead and has no players. The reviews are recent and left by players with dozens of hours of game time.

So far, not looking like much of a threat to me.

  • If you have a pro friend, you already have an advantage.

I for one would enjoy seeing fewer wild swings in rank from match to match.

Technically, there's lots of bratty survivors out there who say EZ when you only get 1 kill.

Heck, I've seen survivors say EZ when you get 3 kills.

Oh yeah, I've gotten trash talked after a 3k. A wounded guy made it to the hatch by the skin of his teeth and hit me with the GG EZ right after.

I tend to agree with the various observations being made that it's problematic to consider 2k the ideal when the community, both sides of it, seem to regard it as a humiliating defeat for the killer.

  • I'm honestly surprised by this thread. I don't believe I've ever seen a "Plague is OP" post in my time here. I really thought it was going to be something like "Plague's red vomit is really gross" when I first glanced at the title and I was gonna be like "yeah, I love it!"

Maybe I'll have to take her for another spin sometime soon.

For me probably still Trapper. My adrenaline pumps when im in a chase and anxious about where I’m running.

Oh, anxiety and dread. That's the good stuff. One of my favorite things about the old school of horror movies is that they still had the Hitchcock roots, there was a slow burn of brooding uncertainty that built into crescendos of violence.

    Plus, that snap.

  • I'm a little surprised by how many Nurse and Spirit votes there are, I was under the impression that people really didn't like playing against them. How interesting.

  • @Yung_Slug said:

Nurse. I usually have a lot of fun with the mindgames. Least favorite is huntress. Remove huntress.

Spicy! Would you care to elaborate? I usually hear it in the reverse order.

  • @iBetClaudette said:

Myers is the only killer that makes me jump. Nothing like jumping on a generator that's right above the killer's basement, you move the camera around slowly and.....Myers is next to you feeding on your soul! Run!

The Shape is my most played killer and this is one reason why. I love providing jump scares, seeing the panic in survivors when I seem to appear out of nowhere.

    @Boosted_Dwight said:

Billy for sure! The fear of getting some saw on my back and his intimidating look makes chases a lot of fun.

Billy really is the gnarliest looking killer, easily the most monstrous aside from Demogorgon. I'm terrible with him, but I've watched high rank survivor streams against him and he can be scary. A relentless force of destruction.

  • This game seems to have a lot of issues on PS4 in particular. My One X has so far handled it well enough.

  • Hmm... Resident Evil 2 is one of the greatest survival horror games of all time, so it's difficult for me to say which end of the equation is doing the heavy lifting here.

I'll concede that it's a very menacing incarnation of Pennywise, though.

  • @JustAFeeling said:

Is it a bad idea or .....

Oh, sorry. Lost track of this thread. Catching up now.

    @JustAFeeling said:

I had a idea for Pennywise power, maybe it's to much programming. 🤷‍♂️

But anyway what if each survivor's had a legitimate fear of something, say if Claudette was a afraid of spider's and she ran into a balloon it explodes, and covers her with blood and the blood would eventually wear off but during when she's trying to preform actions like unhooking, fixing generators the spider's would manifest crawling on the gens and on her hands but this would slow her progression and actions down drastically

Say if Dwight was afraid of being alone and if he was covered in blood or in the face, he wouldn't be able to see other survivors until it wore off like they could literally be standing in front of him but because his fear is active they would be totally invisible to him and ect.

    Edit*survivor's could share common fears

    What do you think?

But all fears should be individually experienced and no one can see what's happening to that one person

That does sound like a lot of development work, far more than we're ever likely to see for a single killer, but I like the general idea. I'm not sure about balloons, and it feels a bit similar to Hag in certain respects, but it does capture a feeling of deception and manipulation.

Coding limitations aside, it feels like something Pennywise would do so it's a step in the right direction. And it actually made me think of something like trapped or tricked chests. A survivor sees a chest, goes rooting around in it for loot, gets bitten by it or something. Lots of blood, a scream (for noise notification), then wounded.

So it's helping me to imagine the possibilities in more tangible terms, which is what I was after. Good share.

How many people are out there playing Clown and Legion having a great time regularly? Few i'd imagine.

    People even complained about Plague...

Licensed killers at least draw people in since they are recognizable.

I would play Clown if he brought more to the table than those little stink bombs. He's disturbing AF, I love his design, just not his gameplay. Legion's also quite cool, but everyone seems to agree that they're hot garbage mechanically.

It's not that we are altruistic, it's freaking boring as ######### hanging the hook until stage 3 from stage 1. No body wants their friend to die either. Camping is a strategy but holy ######### its boring. On both parts.

Unless it's End game. Camping shouldn't be someone's go to strategy.

I'm a killer main and this is my philosophy.

In the generator phase, civility reigns. I'm a gentleman killer, I don't tunnel, camp, or rush death hooks. Unless there's an OoO, in which case they know what they signed up for.

This is because it's the longest part of the match (usually)and where most of the BPs get made. We all wanna get paid. I get paid by the hook, so I'm not too worried about securing kills right away unless generators are really flying.

Once those gates are powered, no more Mr Nice Guy. I've probably got a 99% EW3 waiting and I'm ready to take hostages.

  • @AliXnm said:

So I’m in a game with a trapper and he disconnected making some of us lose our items...this needs to be fixed. And for you killer mains no we weren’t being toxic to him -_-

That always sucks, sorry it happened to you.

  • In my first week or so playing, I tried Hag because everyone raved about Ruin. I didn't really know how to use it or her power (didn't realize there was a range on her teleport initially so I ran around the whole map placing the silliest of traps), so I just tried to do my best.

Naturally, I soon discovered that I can trap hooks. Since that seemed like my best way to get downs, that's what I did. I'd draw some traps around a hooked survivor and skedaddle, hiding off in the bushes somewhere out of LoS.

I thought I was being really clever, I even managed to get a couple kills, but after the match I get a volley of hate mail from this guy saying stuff like "typical trash hag lmao you'll never rank that way". And I'm like "uh what? this is literally my first time playing her."

He stays kinda prickly for a few messages, but eventually we have a little breakdown of what camping is, how the Hag's traps are best used, and why camping is bad for BP. He actually helped me get a better understanding of the game by making the choice to be productive even though he was clearly annoyed with me.

    I appreciated that.

I also like any time I get a friendly or congratulatory message after a close or intense game. I'm always grateful for it and I try to pay it forward.

It probably does, I just grabbed an image off search so I could put up the description without requiring an external link. I guess the picture I got predates the buff, since the wiki says this:

@GrootDude & @FireHazard I understand your points, and they are good ones, but there is something to be said when one can benifit from playing injured. I personally think it's wack there are perks that encourage it. I get its a risk VS reward, but builds can make it a lot more reward sided while in some cases eliminating the risk.

@Yung_Slug I don't play nurse so correct me if I'm wrong, but does that not only show healing survivors? If they are playing injured and forgoing being healed immediately, then no aura.

@Hozh I don't think blood is as viable of means of tracking as you think with out blood hound, which does help quite a bit.

Thanatophobia kinda does what you asked for, which is slow down action speed based on wounds. It depends on how many people are wounded, though.

  • I love the original characters and I'd be quite happy to see more. Most of them have great stories and aesthetic designs, I could easily see them in features of their own.

  • It seems more to me like they don't want the RBTs to be a real threat, given all the conditions they won't work under.

  • With Myers and M&A, I often pull back on chases if the survivor breaks LoS. My terror radius is so small in EW2 that they often think they've lost me once the chase "ends" according to the game.

Every so often, I'll chase a player into a structure or a jungle gym, then just step back and wait. Sure enough, they run the loop, checking over their shoulder the whole time, until they run right back into me. Waiting for them.

    Congrats, you looped yourself.

  • It's an intense game, people get emotional. Sometimes it's rough being in the throes of adrenaline, throwing everything you've got at the challenge, and coming up short.

I damn near uninstalled the first time I got hit with Decisive Strike, I had just dragged someone back from the exit gates that had been running me all game and they were on their last hook.

I was like "FINALLY, at least I get to kill the person I really wanted to kill!" Nope. It was right in front of all their friends, too. Three other survivors sitting at the open gate, watching.

I didn't rage at them after, I tried to learn, but it was brain-meltingly frustrating.

Tbh, I consider hate post-game hate mail a badge of honor these days.

I don’t consider it camping either, that’s why I called it baiting

Fair enough, nothing wrong with being a master baiter. I do it all the time.

  • @Blackowt_9120 said:

You make better progress by not camping, that being said I do believe in baiting the 2nd to last survivor especially when they don’t show up with bbq. That’s a wise choice because you lose more time going the wrong direction than you would staying put

I personally don't consider that camping, because in that scenario you're acting upon hard data. 2 left, no aura on hook, 9 times out of 10 the last guy is already in position for a rescue. There's literally nothing else for you to do but look for that last guy and you've been given an idea of where he is.

If I hook someone and there's someone nearby, I am absolutely going after that person even if it means staying relatively close to the hook at the time. But my goal is the other survivor which I'm actively pursuing, not the one on the hook.

To me, camping is a very specific mindset where you make a deliberate decision to park in a spot because you expect to get more kills that way. If you happen to do a lot of work in the same area while pursuing different objectives and dynamically updating your play, that's not camping to me. That's just one zone of the map being hot.

  • @Corrupted said:

The measurement of a good killer isn't by kills, but by hooks. Camping isn't a strategy and it's cute you think that it is. Camping in any game just indicates that someone is bad and perhaps afraid. The game rewards more hooks opposed to more kills and the game actually punishes you for camping hooks, fyi. You literally lose piping points or experience. If you wanna occupy survivors time and get them off gens then play a good killer and apply pressure, slug, etc.

I'm with this guy. I don't have time to camp, the second a survivor goes on hook I'm already looking for my next target. I know the guy on hook will be freed and IDGAF.

    Barbecue and Chili, awaaaay!

I wasn't trying to be disrespectful or anything, and if he felt so, I'm sorry. I think you're confused on the tone of my post. Anyways, Pennywise would be fun and cool to add, that's about it. Doctor with BBQ and Distressing + Pudding or party streamer. You probably won't get a 4k or pip but you will get lots of BP

Can confirm, average 50-60k BP per match with Doctor even without the offering.

  • Myers and Bubba, the original slasher kings.

I actually first bought Leatherface solely for BBQ, because I hated playing Hillbilly and I assumed he would be similar. Plus, he has such a dismal reputation among the killer literati. I was wrong, loved him from the first time I picked him up. He feels nothing like the frenetic meth head Billy is, he wields that chainsaw like a pro. Once I first learned that I could turn sharp corners and follow survivor jukes, I was hooked.

Then I learned that, unlike Billy, he's still a threat even when his saw hits the environment. Then it was the survivors who were hooked, har har.

Myers was love at first play too. I'd been reading about him and watching streams of him for days, but I wanted to unlock M&A before playing him (had the idea I'd get it cheaper and sooner if I unlocked beforehand). So I did 35 levels on Doctor, occasional fun times but mostly misery as all the grinding got me into the green ranks where survivors aren't as easily fazed by Madness.

By the time I actually got around to trying Myers, I was pretty pessimistic. I was trying to talk my anxiety down before the first match, remind myself I was new at this, only level 1 with him, another humiliating loss was likely, etc.

4k. Effortless, brutal, thrilling. Never looked back.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/703177#Comment_703177

Why mention slashers then? It just makes your post much more confusing, but I already really answered your question. Big IP, Blu-ray comes out in December, second question is because "slashers" aren't so apparent and other entities aren't as obsolete anymore and his toolkit.... it would just be switching from killer to killer or they make it so Pennywise activates every survivors biggest fear.

He would put them on edge because it's about making you go insane, having to face your fears and if you don't beat your fears, you die. He would be similar to the Doctor in a sense, mid-tier.

I mentioned slashers and people running away from them because those are the roots of this game. Leatherface was chasing people around and putting them on meathooks 40 years ago. There is almost no difference between that guy in the original movie and in this game, right down to the flailing chainsaw tantrums when he messes up.

Pennywise is a very cerebral, manipulative kind of killer. He doesn't chase his victims, they come to him. We don't really have any of those. It's a question of MO. Saying he'd be like Doctor is a decent start that helps me visualize what an actual match with him would look like.

  • @TheGorgon said:

Because it's badass... Who cares if a game is around slashers anyway? They said themselves that there is nothing that they cannot get now because they have a big IP in-terms of license and popularity. Stop with that train of thought that it's based around "slashers" now. The developers themselves disproved that last week, and that's just that.

Pennywise would be cool and fun, it doesn't inherently need to be a "classic". You don't seem to know the reason why they pulled Stranger Things into the picture, right? Because S3 came out and their IP is huge. Furthermore, the next chapter is set to be released around December.... exactly when the Blu-ray edition of IT 2 comes out.

I'm not trying to tell anyone that Pennywise shouldn't be put in this game, I want to know why people think he should be put into this game. Like, why would he make a good killer? What would his toolkit look like? How would he put survivors on edge?

It's not "prove yourself to me so I can judge you, peasant!" but "help me understand your passion so I can see it for myself".

I guess going off this if the Dev's nailed a power where he gets stronger based on fear/and could manipulate his terror radius he could work for you.

I mean him getting stronger based on fear would be easy.

-we could do something where if survivors stay too long in his terror radius it could be similar to docs madness.

-the fear part is already covered where is survivor separate /get injured/ hooked/ or die they increase their fear.

Sure, yeah. It's an idea that helps me conceptualize what a match in this game with Pennywise as a killer would look like.

  • @ItsYourBoyGuzma said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/703128#Comment_703128

So why are you struggling with this?

Literally clown is in DBD and I think he is the most lazy, boring, and lackluster killer yet we have him.

He's not a licensed killer, though. He's just a creepy, murderous clown. His backstory is basically bog standard serial killer. I actually like him quite a bit (as a character, hate playing him)because they made a killer clown that's totally unique from Pennywise.

My questions aren't about whether it's "okay" to have Pennywise around but more, like... what is it about him that makes him scary? How would he bring that fear into this game?

I know what makes Clown scary, he's a sick and disturbed weirdo who likes to cut people and animals up for fun. Textbook psychopath. Granted, he's a lot less scary in an actual match than he would be to encounter on a dark street late at night, but still. I get it.

He's a dude that wants to carve people up and suck on their digits. Pretty straightforward.

  • @twistedmonkey said:

I tend to agree with IT not fitting into the game. Pennywise is an iconic character which I love but I can't see how they could make a power which does IT justice into the game.

IT plays with people's minds and causes fear using mental torture with the Pennywise persona using the clown as a way to lure kids in. Pennywise as the actual killer doesn't make any real sense.

Thank you for sharing this, I feel a little less crazy now.

Pennywise has a very specific MO. It's kinda hands-off, right? He acts through proxies and manipulation.

Reread that again, slower this time.

How does pig fit into the "great slashers who defined the genre"?

I don't think she does, yet she's in.

Think more horror icon than slasher icon

I like Pig, but if I saw thread after thread of people calling for her to be put into the game, I would probably be equally curious as to why.

I take your point, though. I should clarify that, while I personally don't see how Pennywise fits into this game, I'm not bothered by the thought of him being in it. It's not me being 100% against the idea of him joining so much as me not understanding why so many people seem to like it.

Well, in the movies, his ppwer is based on fear. The more people are afraid of him, the more powerful he gets. I think that he should be excel at singling survivors out (chasing one survivor at a time, for example), while not being as great when dealing with the whole team. This would promote survivors to work together more, and would be a balanced amount of pressure if he did find the whole team on one gen.

Alright, that's kind of a cool idea.

Scream, Blair With Project, Candyman, Army of Darkness, and Silence of The Lambs all came out in the 90s. We already have pretty much all iconic horror slasher characters from the 70-80s.

Same reason why Ghostface and Demogorgon are coming into the game.

I think that alot of people would love to see Pennywise in the game because of how creative his power can be.

I'm not arguing that there were good horror movies during the 90s, just that I don't see how Pennywise fits into the canon of great slashers who defined the genre.

Scream is a great movie, for example, and it's like one long running Halloween reference.

I still don't understand exactly how Pennywise would fit into this game as a mechanical issue, as well. Can someone explain how his power (I'm not sure what it would be)could translate into something playable in the context of this game?

I'm not a fan of IT, but that doesn't mean I don't want to understand people who are.

  • @ItsYourBoyGuzma said:

Because Pennywise is an iconic horror icon from the 90s, you most likely didn't grow up with good slashers or watched those movies that helped the horror genre.

    Uhhh... what?

Texas Chain Saw Massacre? Halloween? The slasher genre took form in the 70s.

  • @Kilmeran said:

@GrootDude Here's the issue, and I am going to only use my own anecdotal experience based on my wide circle of real life friends and family gamers.

Most players don't want to get good in that sense. They want to jump in and have fun. Fun doesn't necessarily equate to winning, but it does equate to not being bullied or steamrolled by Vets you should not be going against in the first place.

They don't visit forums or reddits, and don't watch YouTube video guides for a game.

The other thing to consider about Dead by Daylight is why it draws in a lot of people. In a lot of instances, it's the licensed DLCs such as Myers, Leatherface, Pig, Ghostface, or Freddy, which are famous horror film icons, or one of the hottest shows on Netflix right now: Stranger Things. It isn't Legion or Nurse, or Spirit, or Plague, or those guys.

And those people want to, again, jump in and have fun. And, again, getting steamrolled by deranked or rank reset Vets is not going to be fun.

And as the SteamCharts have shown repeatedly free weekend after free weekend, and MSRP sale after MSRP sale, the new players aren't being retained. Which means they aren't having fun within their first experiences with the game.

Gamers who find a game to not be fun through their initial experiences, in a majority of cases, will not stick around long enough to get good or improve. A vast majority of the gaming consumer base are very casual gamers.

Toss me in the list of new players discouraged by this bug. I've been playing regularly for about a month and a half, I'm totally okay with losing matches, but when red ranks with epic loadouts started regularly appearing in my matches, I stopped having fun.

I'm already kinda put off by the whole teachable perk system, tbh, but my time actually playing had been fun enough to justify it. Now... not every game is miserable, because sometimes it doesn't happen, but it's a roulette. If I get people around my rank, I have fun. If I get people 10 or more ranks away from me... not fun.

Of course, I'm not a total noob either, I'm a green ranks kind of guy, so when I end up being forced into a match with totally fresh survivors, none of whom are under 17, that's not fun either. I either slaughter them and feel like a prick or I go easy and drag the game out for no reason but to try to compensate for BHVR's mistake.

Either way, I have a new level of uncertainty loading into every game. Will they be way higher than me? Maybe. Lower? Maybe? Just right? Also maybe. My first minutes of every match are now spent watching each survivor like a hawk so I know the appropriate level of force to use.

I don't understand why they release the new chapter before fixing the bug. If it were my game, I'd have pushed it back until it was fixed.

  • These here forums full of such wonderful people are my main distraction, like so many others have said. I also enjoy the DbD subreddit quite a bit, they have the best memes.

  • For me, the only appeal of higher ranks is that it means I can now abandon any care of actually winning. Once the sweat factor gets too high, it's time for me to experiment with builds, level new killers, etc.

I'll usually get a bunch of "rip" and "gg ez" messages from survivors when I fail to make a dent in their gen rush, usually paired with them all waiting in a teabagging line at the exit gates for me, but I don't really care. If it makes them feel big to dump on a level 5 Plague with 2 perks and 0 teachables, that's their business.

It doesn't take too many games of this before I can return to ranks where I don't have to worry about running a perfectly optimized build that's 100% meta on one of the 3 approved killers.

  • I don't see why a good Wraith would tunnel, but I can see why bad ones would. Wraith's biggest handicap is his relative lack of lethality by default, so going ham is a way to counter that.

It's a subpar way to counter it, better players have better ways to deal with it. Make Your Choice comes to mind.
