  • BBQ is one of the best-designed perks in the whole damn game and I will fight anyone who says otherwise. My first priority on any new killer is unlocking it and, once I have it, I never let it go.

The extra BP is awesome, as people have pointed out. The fact that it doubles the total post-game makes it indispensable for BP grinding.

The aura sight is wonderful as well, especially for newer killers who are still training their map awareness. Even if I can't reach the other survivors in time to catch them with the info I gained, it still lets me get an idea of where they are and what they're up to. If I see two guys on a gen across the map, that info is valuable whether or not I can turn it into an immediate chase or hook.

But BEST OF ALL, the perk rewards killers for spread pressure and aggressive play. Even at the first rank, you need to hook at least two different survivors to get max benefit. At rank 3, you need to hook the whole team at least once. This discourages tunneling and camping while encouraging map pressure.

When I play with BBQ, I care less about kills than I do about hooks. If I hooked everyone twice, then they all escaped, I'm still ending the match with a ton of BP. I feel like this is more fun for everyone, as I'm less pressured to secure kills to get paid. It's less stress on me because I still make some bank even if everyone gets away and it's less stress on the survivors because I'm much less likely to tunnel and camp them.

BBQ is love, BBQ is life.

Have you ever tried using PWYF on Bubba?

Also surprised you put trapper on A tier.

Speedy Bubba! More people need to realize the glory of our boy once he gets some movement speed boosts going.

There may be a few questionable choices, like putting Freddy and Pig on the same tier, but pig is underrated in my opinion. The other choice that may confuse people is my placement of the Demogorgon. Many people have been saying that he's A-B tier, but I disagree. If you fully utilize the information you get with portals, as well as using shred perfectly, he's arguably stronger than A tier. Clown is another one. At high ranks, he's terrible. Most survivors know how many loops they can do on him, and the limited amount of bottles during chase doesn't help one bit.

I have some real questions about this list... how is Pig above Myers?

  • We're all in the Entity's realm. The basement is special because it seems to be a place of ritual. The Monstrous Shrine perk describes the Entity as having taken interest in loving care of the basement hooks, for example. There's always skulls and candles around it.

Endgame collapse actually contradicts the original lore that the Entity was incapable of direct action, hence its need for killers to hook people in order to gain sustenance from them, so I'm not sure what the official explanation for that one is.

No issues here on PS4. I have been face camping survivors with Leatherface, Insidious, and NOED all night without a problem.

This man knows what he's about it and I like it.

  • I love jungle gyms, they're where the real mindgames happen. There are many ways for things to go wrong and many ways for things to go right. Pallets are binary and boring.

  • I personally don't mind when survivors DC, in some ways I consider it a badge of honor. One time I caught a group of 3 survivors fixing a gen in corn as Myers, stalked them all the way up to tier 3 from right behind them. When the Halloween theme sounded, they all instantly scattered. One of them DCed right on the spot.

I enjoy knowing I've reached through the interwebs to affect someone so directly.

######### killer DCs, though. Pardon my French, but it's a real ######### move to ragequit in a game where nobody can actually hurt you and everybody depends on you sticking around to be rewarded for their time and effort. I know it can be stressful and frustrating at times, but take your ######### lumps. The game doesn't end until the last survivor has died or escaped.

I don't care if they're all t-bagging at the exit gate, make them limp or crawl their way out.

  • Edit: wasted breath.

  • Our boy Bubba already becomes borderline OP with speed-enhancing perks and add-ons. Most of the people who think Leatherface is the worst killer have never faced a speedy Bubba build, in my opinion, because once he starts moving faster than survivors while chainsawing he becomes the ultimate close-quarters killing machine.

What the Wraith really needs is something to help him in chases, imho. Without add-ons, his stealth is much more useful for scouting and tracking than it is for ambushes, so I don't consider him a real stealth killer in the same vein as Myers, Ghostface, or Pig.

I'm not sure what would do the trick without negating his main weakness, though.

  • As survivor, suiciding on hook while the rest of my team is still alive. I used to try playing survivor for dailies but I just don't enjoy it, this is why I stopped. I felt guilty about screwing teams over simply because I wasn't having a good time.

As killer... hm. Probably the first time I encountered Object of Obsession. I was playing Ghostface, still fairly new to him but having fun, when I noticed a survivor's aura lighting up while they pointed at me. This was on the Game, I was being spotted through walls and floors, it actually threw me for quite a loop.

At first, I tried to work my way around them, but they must have been a SWF group with the OoO calling out my position in voice because I couldn't find anyone. So I started chasing this girl (a Laurie, naturally)even though she looped me pretty well. I get her down once, move on to the next, feeling like my luck has improved.

It doesn't last long, once she's off the hook she goes right back to blowing up my spot. By now, I've put two and two together and realized that she must see my aura every time I see hers. This makes it impossible for me to play GF effectively, especially on this map.

So I decide to kill her, as I have literally no other options. I hunt her down, I put her on a hook, and I park my fluttery cloth ass right on top of her. I knife her a few times while she's on the hook as my way of saying "I know what you're doing and I don't like it". Sure enough, someone comes along for the rescue in moments and makes it clear that they're willing to wait out the entire duration of the hook just to get her off it.

So I oblige them. We have a hook staredown. I knife the hooked Laurie once or twice in front of their teammate because by this point I'm in full slasher flick mindset. I just wish I could taunt by saying something like, "This is the one that's supposed to save you?"

Sadly, I was still quite green and forgot about the speed boost survivors get from being hit. The rescuer gets in close, I shank them, they dart by for the unhook. I try to get Laurie but I get the rescuer instead, so they go on the hook in their place. I fall back a bit and go into stealth, peeking around a distant corner to see who comes to the rescue, but with OoO back in play, it's pointless. The rescuer DCs on hook.

Laurie is wounded and the altruist DCed, there are just the two guys frantically banging away on generators. I haven't seen them all match. Laurie tries doing the OoO thing one more time and it's enough for me to track her down. After a fairly epic chase, she goes on the hook. Third time's the charm, she's outta here.

With OoO out of play, I hunt and kill the last two guys without breaking a sweat. They die running around in a blind panic.

All in all, it made for quite an experience and I actually got no hate mail, but it was definitely the scummiest I've ever played. I've never face camped like that before or after.

  • I watched a lot of killer streamers before I started regularly playing, so Head On is one of those mythical perks that I'm always on the look out for. At first I didn't get why all these seemingly unstoppable players got so scared around lockers, but once I saw, I understood.

I think it makes killers mad because every second is precious to a killer. A three second stun feels like a ######### eternity when I know the game is getting away from me. I can't imagine being stunned multiple times in a match, I'd be pissed.

Also, presumably you messed up their plans by doing that. Killers hate it when people mess up their plans. It's stressful and embarrassing to be a 7-ft murder machine getting clowned by some anemic hamster with glasses.

I think emotional maturity helps distinguish good killers from the rest. Pros channel frustration productively while scrubs chase Nea for 5 minutes and 3 generators because she t-bagged me.

  • I'd happily take Jack, especially if he uses the axe to break pallets.

I don't think our resident killer clown would handle it well if we introduced a new killer clown without giving him some love first.

  • I'm terrible at everything survivor, mostly because I don't play survivor.

As a killer, I'm terrible at indoor navigation. If there are multiple houses or basements (not the fun kind with hooks, the bad kind with generators)I am not going to get a 4k. Any time there are multiple turns in quick succession, I get disoriented.

It usually takes me an extra 5 seconds at least to effectively patrol generators that are indoors as opposed to out in the open because I'll approach the building from the wrong side or get caught on a corner trying to take a tight turn.

I nearly ragequit the first few times I played on the Game map because I kept getting lost. Generators would be pop left and right with me half the map away and on the wrong level, feeling like the world's worst game of Marco Polo.

  • I only care about rank insofar as I try to avoid ranking up beyond my skill level. When I first started I played a lot of Doctor to unlock M&A for Myers, potato ranks couldn't handle the shock stuns and skill checks, so I got a bunch of 4ks that I didn't really earn and soon found myself way out of my league.

Since then, I've started caring way more about hooks than kills. If I hooked everyone in the game twice and they all escaped, netting me a ton of BP but no pips, I'd be just fine with that. It's impossible to learn a new killer or practice new strategies past a certain rank.

I don't DC or lobby dodge, and I try to keep my rank around my general skill level, but yeah. I don't get the motivation for chasing red ranks, personally. Maybe if there were bonuses.

  • My problem with Clown is his lack of lethality and mobility. Even the iridescent add-on for instant downs requires direct bottle hits. In that Tru3 video with the generators that got everyone so hot under the collar, that's one of the reasons why he got humiliated so bad: he needed direct hits for his add-on, survivors kept easily dodging them.

If I were to buff him, I would remove the movement speed penalty from reloading and give the gas some kind of lingering effect, like Plague or Doctor. That stuff is supposed to be a muscle relaxant powerful enough to let him vivisect his prey, being hit with it multiple times over the match should have consequences.

  • @TragicSolitude said:

I have a daily to heal other survivors three health states. I gave up on it after four matches. It was going like this...

First match, a killer who couldn't or just didn't hit anyone. I went up to her at the end of the match, let her hit me. The other survivors healed me, but none of them let her hit them, so I never got to heal anyone.

Second match, killer finds me first. They kept whiffing, over and over again. I finally stop running and go up to a hook and point at it, because I can't get the daily done like this. They hook me, nod, and go off. They come back as soon as I'm unhooked, start to chase the unhooker, then break off and chase me, instead. And they tunnel me out of the game. At least it was quick so I could move on to a new match and try for the daily again... but I just got tunneled out of that one first thing, too...

Not saying killers aren't allowed to tunnel and camp. They certainly are. I just wanted to whine a little, 'cause playing solo survivor is the least fun I've ever had in any video game.

This made me sad to read. Also, I like your name.

As for me, I only tunnel someone with Object of Obsession or if I'm about to lose a game. In the case of OoO, I will face camp the hook if I'm playing a stealth killer, because I need that survivor to die in order to use my power.

In game loss scenarios, I'll watch or patrol the hook from a distance, but I'm happy to swap which survivor goes on the hook. Fresh meat sits on the hook longer and gives me more BBQ stacks. I'll slug the escapee and let them crawl away to be revived if I accidentally hit them instead of a rescuer.

I won't tunnel a non-OoO into a death hook unless everyone else has escaped. For me, the whole point of keeping a survivor down is to lure out the altruists. Dead survivors can't be saved and thus make poor bait. If my bait behaves well and gets me some extra hooks, I might drop them at the hatch or exit.

I won't go out of my way to avoid culling the herd, though. If one particular guy is always the loudest, slowest, clumsiest survivor, he's probably going to die first. Sorry.

  • Skunk Ape. He's basically Sasquatch, but he lives in a swamp instead of the woods and his terrible odor makes people sick.

Console nurse doesn't get you salt sadly ): It more or less gets you fan-mail of people telling you you're a good nurse if you master her on console.

While this disappoints my misanthropy, it encourages my narcissism. I'm intrigued.

    @immortalls96 said:

Definitely doable..finally took her up as my main but I'm still not extremely consistent, sadly the bad sense screws you a lot playing her as being able to turn fast with her is so crucial when survivors try to dodge blinks by going behind you or when blinking to counter a pallet drop , bad frames dont help in being able to react quickly either..then again I'm going addonless till her addon rework so that's also not helping lol though it's probably wise to master her base first

Ditching the add-ons definitely seems the way to go, yeah. Both for practice and because we don't know what the hell they're going to look like once the devs are done. Thankfully I'm on a One X and I haven't noticed any frame drops so far, but I haven't played much of her yet.

    @iBetClaudette said:

A good nurse on console is a beast since she's not very common. I'm a survivor main on PS4 and I find myself switching up my playstyle completely against her because I rarely face the nurse on console.

This seems to be true because the last group I faced with her seemed terrified once they saw I was on Nurse. They got bolder once they realized this particular Nurse wasn't much of a threat, but it was satisfying to see the "OH ######### SCATTER" response I usually only get on T3 Myers.

Its also important to note you wont be able to drop someone manually if theres no room. If your against a wall on the side youd normally drop a survivor...it wont let you drop them.

Did not know that, either. So glad I'm your doppelganger, I learn so much!

  • So that's why that guy rolled me when I tried to drop him off at the exit. I just thought my drop button wasn't working right or something, lol. Glad I said something.

dropping a survivor partially fills a wiggle meter, so if you drop them when the meter is TOO full... they'll wiggle off.

Oh, huh. That's very good to know, thanks for pointing it out.

I can't think of any reason this would be a bad thing, then.

  • I can understand why it's not there as it adds some suspense, but I'd use it a lot if it was. I like to be a friendly killer who helps the survivors get back home to the basement (they always get so lost), so having more info than just eyeballing distances and making guesses would be much appreciated.

Though I do worry that any killer could just drop their potato sack once they see it maxing out the wiggle bar.

Every thread on this forum is loaded with that. You're just mad cause you got publicly proven wrong and called out on trying to twist my words.

I'd love to continue this conversation but I just don't have the proper psych training. I've said everything I can say. So long, it's been... bizarre and contentious.

We type similarly because we both use correct grammar and spelling. I'd encourage you to try the same but it's clear you have some deep-seated opposition to the idea.

And, you know, it might not take a worldwide conspiracy for multiple people to be offended by being called hypocrite babies for no reason.

But we really have reached peak "arguing over nothing" at this point, haven't we? Can we just back down from this cliff now?

No idea what you're talking about, I haven't been arguing with anyone. Didn't post on page one of this thread. I did agree with the OP of this thread that the killer sounded like a dick, I just encouraged him to relax a little.

On the Dead Hard thread, the only comment I made was to say that I assume every survivor has it as a precaution. Hell, I even liked some of your posts about how easy it is to bait Dead Hard because that's what I was referring to when I said it.

Also, my comment didn't quote anyone, as stated many times yet I was adressed first. But I'm the instigator? Please.

Oh yeah, I've been starting threads bitching about the grind for new players and taking heat for it because I'm just so invested in the ruse. Get over yourself, Scrappy Doo.

And yeah, you waltzed in here spraying around terms like "hypocrite babies" and starting highly personalized tiffs with people over something that has nothing to do with this topic over behavior in a completely unrelated thread.

But now they're suddenly defending instadowns and also defending hard? Try again.

"Other than me" dude, I only need it to me you to have someone to argue against. And you're saying not one person is in agreement with you here? Then who's upvoting your comments?

I am, because I agree with the general gist of what he's saying.

I'm pretty new around here, I don't know either one of you, but I've found him to be a pretty chill dude so far and this thread was winding down nicely until you came along trying to start #########.

Idk if you two have a history or something, but all I've seen him be in this thread is laid back.

  • Usually people at least wait until the game starts before getting this sweaty, damn.

  • @OriginalName said:

Clown. Even though he's very mid-tier, his laughs and recovery animation and especially his Mori are all awesome and add lots of flair. He feels the most like a serial killer to me and I revel in that atmosphere.

I also like playing Wraith, I just seem to do exceptionally better with him naturally than every other killer I have.

Trapper is also really fun as you watch survivors run straight into your traps. I love playing him when I feel at the top of my game.

I actually agree with this. They did a really good job of making a creepy clown without going all the way over the top or making him a Pennywise clone. He has a very unique vibe, feels very much like a greasy psycho carny, and his backstory is pure serial killer.

The mori with the finger-licking is just... ugh, in the best possible way. I hate aiming his bottles but that dude has serious creepshow swagger.

  • I haven't had this exact issue, but I've had issues with ranking up too fast and not getting back fast enough. When I was grinding Doctor for M&A, I got a ton of 4ks in the scrub ranks because teams just could not handle the skill checks.

The game clearly thought I was awesome and I moved up like 5 ranks, only to get smacked right the ######### back down once I started encountering teams that were unfazed by my game-prolonging shenanigans. It took a couple days of play to derank about halfway and I'm still not sure I am where I should be, but I'm no longer getting roflstomped quite as badly as I was before.

Really looking forward to rank reset so I can level up my other killers without having panic attacks.

  • Also, you know, the OP even said on the first page that this thread isn't about whether instant down abilities are okay or not. He made it clear that his objection was to killers thinking they're hot ######### just because they use them.

His exact words: "Again youre not understanding, i dont care about insta downs. Just don't act like youre a god because of it."

  • Well, I don't know about us "all" getting punished.

I quite enjoy stomping the hatch.

  • Had to be, that dude was hauling major ass. I love speedy Bubba, survivors never see it coming.

Did Tru3 evn used pop once in that clip? Anyways, ggs only friends :) <3

Thanks for you're input man, I'm inclined to believe it too. I went back to OhTofu's stream and he believes that every map other than the new one and Badham need to be reworked, and I respect his opinion as a streamer.

Tofu's awesome, I love his Billy guide. I think he's right on this one.

  • I personally think it's the fact that the maps aren't balanced around survivors being able to knock out gens so quickly. The amount of mobility needed by a killer to counter the kind of spread pressure a good team brings is why the meta favors only the ones with the highest mobility.

When gens are getting knocked out simultaneously at opposite ends of the map, there just isn't much most killers can do to stop or even slow it down.

  • As a Halloween fan it pains me to say this, but ######### Haddonfield. It's like trying to chase a family of circus acrobats through there.

Love me some corn on the Shape, though. A whole group of survivors wandered right by while I was in T1 earlier today.

Yea Myers is a really fun killer also, he is just a little to slow paced for me and running out of stalk juice on surviors sucks.

It's rough, yeah. He has a plodding pace, it's very feast-or-famine. When things go wrong, it sucks, but when they go right... boy, do they go right.

Bubba is probably the only other character I feel as much sentimental warmth for, particularly his Insidious/basement builds. That's another guy who feels like he brings his movie with him whenever he enters the game.

  • Tough call, I haven't really settled on a main yet. I suppose it would be Myers if I had to pick, as I greatly enjoy stealth killers and I love the Halloween movies.

There's something wonderful about walking right up to someone and peeling them off a gen in T1, and those moments where you pop T3 at just the right time... delightful.

He's also the killer who feels most like himself. I always enjoy it when survivors drop a pallet and wait behind it, giving me free EW. Just staring at people, silent and motionless, while I plot out their impending death, is rewarding.

Every so often you can hear his breathing under the mask and it just feels right, so many happy horror movie memories come flooding back.

I didn't know what NOED was. I got the teachable he has, prestiged him for his bloody weapon.

I just play for the fun. I'm currently using the BP I get from him to upgrade other characters.

I don't see anything wrong with having to grind.

There's nothing wrong with having to grind. The existence of the grind itself is not a problem. There are specific details about the way this particular grind is set up that work counterintuitively and discourage experimentation early on which have been covered at length in this thread. Several long-term players have chimed in with their specific thoughts and experiences on the matter, I think they're worth reading.

I'm glad you've found a way that works for you. Tbh, focusing on one character at first and grinding them up, then worrying about optimization later (if at all)is probably the most stress-free way to do it. It goes against all the advice I was given when I first started, which is that new players should focus on unlocking teachables first, but it's probably a lot smoother.

I've been playing for like a month or something. I think the grind is fine and had no issues with it when I started.

With all due respect, you have no teachables unlocked from what I can tell and somebody had to explain NoED to you. While that doesn't make you a bad player by any means, you seem to be doing well for yourself, you're not really engaged in the greater sprawl.

Grinding up one or two characters is not a problem at all. Optimizing one or two characters can and often does require leveling multiple others, with possible repetitions in the case of poor bloodweb RNG.

If I could get everything I needed for Trapper by playing and leveling Trapper, I would have zero problem with this game's grind. I'd consider it a walk in the park. Things don't really start to get sticky until you introduce teachables.

  • It's so lovely to see another killer get their first taste of the joy that is NoED.

    Cheers.
