@Brady I suppose you’re right. Why should the end game be any bit exciting? A “win” is satisfactory enough for players. Predictability can be a real jewel among people- including myself.
-
Man some of those SWF can really put a damper on my roleplay though. I’d much rather put on a good show for survivors who appreciate a good scare.
-
I’m always perturbed seeing The Shape Stalk me mid-chase. Is it efficient? Not really... but does that stop some Killer players from trying? Not a chance.
I absolutely love to stalk from far away. Survivors never see ya coming. But when they see you there all along; It’s a whole new fear.
-
It’s funny, do you remember at the end of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre when Sally had a train of friends to keep her safe from the dying state?
Aw sure you remember! Escape was in sight thanks to that trucker... and a team of coordinated survivors “blocking” Leatherface. Thank the Entity they were Healthy though!
(The “end game” of most horror classics are usually the least suspenseful part of the show. ...What...?) -
My advice is to play however way you want to play. In the first dev diary, Ash Pannel mentioned how cooperative play : “...at the end of the day; It’s all about you.”
I know you asked for Survivor Basics... but to me; Having fun your way is the most important advice I (personally) can give. I don’t try to find the perfect tactics- I make my own. (Not saying that as hurtful, apologies for any offense) -
I don’t know... any changes solely for rank one players would be pretty drastic for the game. Remember, not every player enjoys using the same tactics, perks, and “personality”.
I still sometimes make selfish decisions, and because of this; No player (random ones) would really want to be in a SWF group with me.
-
That’s disappointing to hear
Sure hope I can make it too 100 with some help. -
It’d be cool to get some kind of solid reward. Cosmetics would be cool, but possibly tasking for the Devs.
Even a pouch of bloodpoints and maybe a crypted message from the Entity? Or just a simple commendation from the Developers! Ahh~ just to have a warm thoughtful message from our creators would be so satisfying! -
Wow I’ve really been away from rank 1 (as Killer) for a long time.xxaggieboyxx said:It would prevent the toxic being injured dead hard then 1 tap heal bs
I’ve never seen or thought about doing that, but that’s a pretty nasty tactic. I guess as players get more and more desperate to “win”; They find new ways to be innovative. Admirable but terribly predictable.
-
Sometimes when I play as Killer, I’ll give my “corresponding” survivor “special treatment”. This usually means a more immersive experience- I’ll roleplay with them personally more than the rest.
-
It’s a modern-day phenomenon. Back then, splitscreen for video games was a common way for friends to hang out together. Now-a-days, with our increased knowledge and understanding of computers and better hardware; Splitscreen is still very simple and easy to put into games.
...Wait... what?
(I’m no expert and I know I AM wrong but I do miss good ol’ same-screen playin’) -
Very good observation, and I’d be interested in seeing The Clown’s perk quotes. For Bamboozle, maybe: “He’s big... and slippery too.”
-
To survive, sometimes you need to know your priorities. And teammates won’t always understand; But as Ash Pannell said in a Dev Diary: “...at the end of the day; It’s all about you.”
(What Ash says after this statement really shines for me. Playing as an individual can offer an interesting dynamic) -
It sadly comes down to what the community finds fun. Some players -oddly enough- enjoy playing with the same “loadouts” repeatedly. I mean, yeah- it’s nice to “win” and have perks that grant success the majority of the time, but does it get boring? Well, to the ones who are “winning”... No.
This goes for Survivor and Killer. So when you have those really fast “just business” matches; It’s because the player(s) want to “win” and that’s all they want out of Dead By Daylight.
(Speaking of “Just Business” I LOVE the Strictly Business outfit for The Doctor! If I ever choose to go all out and rise back to a rank 1 Killer; You’ll know what I’ll be wearing! It mimics the SWF groups I’ll face- the “just business” ones) -
I like to use Distressing on The Pig, Wraith- and well... really just about every Killer sometimes. But that’s just me!Cetren said:Bitter murmur is getting a huge buff in the midchapter patch so it let's you see their aura every time a gen is completed and when the gates are powered. Distressing is for doc and BP farmers.
The buffs to Dark Sense and Bitter Murmer seem a little too strong at five seconds after each generator is finished (and with respective proximity to the generator).
Maybe just 3 seconds would be really nice. Not too daunting, but still would make the perks shine. -
Sounds like a pretty boring Trial...
-
It’s like waiting until you’re married. Don’t worry it’ll be much more enjoyable and you’ll feel so much happier if you wait patiently. Like biting into a ripe fruit. Figuratively, and quite literally.arcticxlia said:Ugh, i hate this waiting. I [BAD WORD] hateeee. :'(

I run Sloppy Butcher on a lot of my Trials as Killer. (I liked it before/after buff). It always made me tense as a Survivor to see a thick trail of Red following me; It’s satisfying when you’re the one following it.
-
Thank the Entity New Moon Bouquet has been removed.
-
...I’m still gonna pay for my pouch or Auric Cells... regardless of how I’ve been treated. Masochism at its finest friends.
-
There’s so many Killers I like; They all have their own fear factor and personality- it’s hard to choose just one! It’s like making a painting: I need all the colors in order to be happy.
Ah but whoever I choose in a Trial, I’m always satisfied beatin’ the devil outa some Survivor. -
In a Trial, There are typically more Survivors than Killers (Obviously). This leaves more possibility or chance that 1 (or more) out of the 4 survivors may disconnect.
The Trial still goes on after all whether they leave or not (in the Survivors mind). A Killer is like a Game Master- they dictate the flow of the game and who dies (or disconnects) through the whole match; So it’s less likely they’ll quit a trial, since they’re the lifeblood of the game.
A speed boost to completing Generators though... As the Developers stated one stream, they said that a disconnected survivor is treated like a killed or sacraficed survivor. We can only hope that survivor players get a grip on multiplayer-ethics I suppose. -
I can’t seem to remember if this was always an issue or not. I mean, on console, I could play with friends over the house. On PC I could play WoW (enough said).
There shouldn’t even be an argument regarding video game platforms... They’re for our enjoyment. -
Clearly you’re (possibly) quite inept when it comes to female fashion and function. Don’t question it; Just accept it in all its glory.
-
Am I the only one who thinks a small bloodpoint gain in the Deviousness category for Bleeding is in order?
-
An interesting plan I must say. It would deter Survivors from locating the Totems early on because they would have to search near the location where the Killer- no doubt- already is.
-
Anyone else think of The Ghost and Mr. Chicken? A Don Knotts classic? They could have a new map where everything is... corny or obviously in a “scary” mood. Like have a thunderstorm outside, paintings with eyes moving, OR lockers that spin when you enter them! And you end up on the other side of a wall!
-
Did you know; They originally didn’t add a mode to play with your friends because the Developers wanted to retain that feeling of uncertainty among the survivors.
When I play as a survivor, I still wonder each trial: “Can I trust them?”
I also never blame a teammate if they decide not to save or help me. It’s their decision. -
I already liked the idea of the Cypress Memento Mori, but with it being an offering, it often feels like a gamble whether or not I’ll get to even use it. I mean yes, it’s not meant to be an “every game” sort of thing; I still like the idea though.
-
“Farming”... I’ve had feelings about this word used in Dead By Daylight. I never personally “farm”, but I like to prolong and give inexperienced survivors a chance- but I won’t make it obvious. I “roleplay” my actions.
But no, generally I don’t always trust survivors to- well, to “appreciate” the fear I try to instill. -
That’s an interesting idea! I like the part about sabotaging the hook, but it stays in an “armed” state- ready to be sprung into action once interacted with.
But my only worry would be: How much effort would survivors put into sabotaging each hook they see? Perhaps a limitation would be involved?
Nevertheless, good idea. -
Each Exhaustion-related perk -in my opinion- has its own play style attached. Generally, you don’t see running 4 exhaustive perks at once; So it kind of “locks you in”, in regards to: “Where should I run if a Killer spots me?”
Although lately, I have been playing a lot of Nea lately- with Balanced Landing of course. -
I’ve always had a thing for Jake; The “wanderer”, “Nature Man”, a “Calm Spirit” kind of a character. He’s the embodiment of how I would be a survivor in most cases.
Notice in the intro, He stops Claudette from running towards a fellow survivors’ scream. Perhaps he’s selfish? Or maybe he just knows his priorities? Either way I play a Jake, ‘cause I be a Jake. -
The “Let’s Make a Deal” perk sounds interesting in its own right. It makes me think; Just what would “I” do. But I must say, I could see certain survivors selling their teammates with no regard or regret.
-
I agree with many others here. I was drawn to the horror aspect of the game; The fear that emanates from only real players when faced with tough decisions.
Sadly, this core aspect has “seemed” to drift a little bit. But I have faith the Dead By Daylight team will deliver a satisfying, unique experience. -
I DO love inexperianced or “immersed” survivors! As Killer it allows me to role play much more. I’ve come across your particular scenario many times
So what I’ll do AS the Killer (depending on which one) I’ll slowly walk towards them (cloaked or uncloaked), or rev the chainsaw (more “for show” at first), or stand still if I’m Myers.
Try to just have fun with inexperienced players- let yourself get scared. Trust me, it can be a thrill. -
I instinctively find myself covering my mouth whenever The Pig crouches right past me and doesn’t notice. It’s terrifying when you can hear the Killer breathing so close without a heartbeat.
-
I’m talking about the “original” core (and still central) aspect of the game.Master said:@TheTimeMachine said:
This would be a great addition; If only there weren’t trolls though.
I like to roleplay as killer (dramatic actions and movement) but it’s hard when survivor teams don’t appreciate the horror aspect of Dead By Daylight. I still get jumpscared by my own illusions playing The Doctor...Horror aspect in DBD?
You do realize that as killer you have more worries/fears than a survivor? just saying....
Mathieu Cote explained in the dev diary: “We don’t care if your character is scared, or not. What we want to know is; If the player is scared... excited.”
With the recent “ideas” the Devs shared in the QA; it seems they’re shifting some of this back maybe? With the change of certain survivor perks, perks that can have strong effects on a trial; It’ll be nice to see perhaps more interesting/healthy chases and stealthy gameplay.
Survivor players seem scared of the changes- and so am I! But this is a GOOD fear. -
I would agree, in that I’d like to see Jason in Dead By Daylight. But... it seems too unlikely for now. Although I could be wrong- who knows what could happen?
I just have a hard time thinking about: His ability, perks, and overall place in the game. -
Psh all this talk about Resident Evil- anyone ever play Grabbed by the Ghoulies? Now THAT’S a mansion.
-
This would be a great addition; If only there weren’t trolls though.
I like to roleplay as killer (dramatic actions and movement) but it’s hard when survivor teams don’t appreciate the horror aspect of Dead By Daylight. I still get jumpscared by my own illusions playing The Doctor...
-
I’ve gotta watch this stream cause I’m missing out on all these juicy changes. But I hope Sloppy Butcher still makes survivors bleed rivers!
-
Aw dam... so much for locker-use early game!snozer said:@TheTimeMachine said:
Woah woah they SAID “8 meters”??he has his info wrong, it gets bigger the more survivors die. so once you kill 2 survivors it actually becomes detrimental to take it, because now all you hear is whispering in your ear as it will never turn off unless you are on the other side of the map.
-
Do players really find that enjoyable though...? That sounds like a chore more than anything. But what do I know, video games aren’t always played for the same “fun” that I seek.
-
Maybe this wasn’t ever meant to be played competitively? Me personally, this always seemed like one of those games that a few friends play at someone’s house together.
I love the freedom we have in-game; To move our characters and perform actions, but at the same time, there’s just enough freedom that lets gameplay mechanics get very “dicey” as people min/max each scenario they find themselves in.
The core idea of this particular game, isn’t as simple or easy as it is in many competitive FPS games (I shoot the enemy = They die = I “win”) Perhaps this certain mindset doesn’t really thrive in Dead By Daylight?
Our freedom in a trial let’s us play however way we want. But what exactly is our players goal playing DbD? To “win”? To have “fun”? What makes the majority of our players have a “good time” playing this particular game? It’s up to the greater mass to decide what they really want out of Dead By Daylight. -
Well, it IS a broken key. I mean, other than having something occupy my hands, it doesn’t do much for me either... but it doesn’t keep me from carrying it like a lucky charm.
-
Woah woah they SAID “8 meters”?? That’s a huge buff considering it’s a much smaller search area than 32 meters.
But it only works with the last survivor? Well... at least I’ll have another perk slot free. -
But if you tilt your head to the right, it looks like a monkey screeching! The plot thickens. This is like cracking the X-files from Herman Carter’s sacred cabinet!
-
What if I prestiged before the patch, and leveled up a bit? Would I receive any (tier 1) “personal” perks that I have yet to find in the bloodweb?Cetren said:Yes, it just means if you prestiged a character you don't start with no perks, you get their three teachable on level one for that character right off the bat. Teachables still function exactly the same.
(This question may be directed to PC players who have experienced this particular situation) -
Bad wording on my part. As stated in the patch notes:
- All characters now start with their 3 personal perks unlocked by default (at level 1)
Will I have these 3 personal perks unlocked after patch 2.0? I mean, I’d figure yes, but I’m not sure since I’ve already technically “started” and I’ll be in some weird place in between.
