I apologize if this is a “dumb” question, but just what are these “changes” to Self Care and Decisive Strike? I can’t find them in the Perks section of the patch notes.
-
You can’t possibly tell me you wouldn’t mind going on a date with a monster like that. I mean, sure, he COULD have a heart of gold SOMEWHERE in that body of his, but who would take a chance of being finger lickin’ dead??Runiver said:Not really.
He's cool but not that creepy. -
I think everyone is already trying to do the math of: How much playtime equals FREE goodies. Don’t get me wrong, free is almost always better than NOT FREE. Although, for the devoted players (and those who love the concept) of Dead by Daylight; They no doubt would be happy to monetarily aid the very ones who created the game. I mean, yes, most of us have other priorities than a game. But this game is their priority; Their job.
Besides, they’ve been pretty generous with what resources they have. Remembering the free DLC I’ve come to enjoy so much. -

Well, they reduced the terror radius, maybe that was the cube! /sI agree completely. They could buff her movement speed and take a look at some add ons (looking at you, scarred hand). Maybe also buff her standard teleport range? I'm lookin forward to some changes, I'd love to play her more.
I forgot about this aswel... (I'm a forgetful person!) I guess i was hoping for something i can *see* , but i definitely do like being able to keep on the sneak!
-
I don’t think this was ever addressed- not yet at least- by the DbD team. I mean The Trapper wasn’t one of the three Killers that the community (at the time) thought needed major adjustments.SpitfireOrMichina said:what about trapper cube

I actually completely forgot about this. Everyone voted for The Doctor first, then The Wraith, and then...? The Hag has seemed to have been overlooked. Our Dead By Daylight team has been busy lately, but this was something that- I thought- they said was definitely going to happen. The vote from the community was just to see who gets reworked first.
Perhaps this was just a situation involving priorities. But I feel like The Hag should be addressed, regarding her current state. -
I like Third Seal cause it’s pretty scary when you can’t see some of the base auras. Makes me feel more “alone” when I get hit with it.
-
I shall give you a honorable comment (seeing as there are not many here).
The Doctor is definitely terrifying- just to mention his name alone gives me chills. When our developers created this shocking monster; Mathieu Cote even said that he wanted this particular Killer to feel “OP”. In my own words; To make survivors feel panicked at how “mad” and overwhelming he can be. Personally I feel that they did an excellent job at achieving this feat.
All those “passive” effects you mentioned all tie in to his main ability. He’s certainly an oppressive Killer, one I still struggle to survive against (even though I’ve played much of The Doctor myself).
Try using lockers sometimes to hide from Carter’s Static Field when he’s close, and if you’re spotted, look for paths to escape his glare and run like a cheetah. Be persistent and don’t give up. The Entity ain’t done with ya!
-
The most important advice I would give is: Be The Doctor. Let yourself get into the character, read his biography and hunt in a way a mad doctor would hunt.
As for hard tips? If I’m playing for less drama and more sacrafice; I tend to focus on getting madness tiers up in each survivor as soon as I can. You can tell their tier level by the intensity of electricity on their portrait on-screen. Sometimes I’ll switch between modes simply to move quicker sometimes, or to shock possible hiding spots. I like to balance hitting and shocking together, sometimes if I don’t want to spend much time on a single survivor, I’ll shock ’em (or remain close to them in Treatment mode) to “Madness” tier 3 then lurk back in the shadows.
Oh and never forget that sometimes those pesky survivors will insult your intelligence with their wits and cunning. Don’t let them pester you. Sometimes you gotta give ‘em a little bit of hope anyways. -
That’s downright rediculous. A good fear tactic soiled by stupidity. Excuse my French, but that really fires me up.
Times before I would do almost the same, but I would cloak as The Wraith and wait at the top of the stairs. After a few seconds of the survivors struggling to get by an “invisible force” I would hit one then- well, “let” them escape.
But for someone to have ZERO class like that? It’s just typical of gamer/internet trolls today. Apologies, for my distaste.
-
Am I the only one who still gets tense hearing a heartbeat intensify?? I mean, I’ll admit I’m a scaredy cat. I’ve even been jumpscared playing Killer (My most embarrassing moment is getting scared by my own illusion as The Doctor). Sure, some of the sound effects are exaggerations, but it still leaves me shaking in a locker!
(Off topic, I apologize.) -
You and I have the same attitude. While your forthrightness is shocking, it is also justified. I’m just... less crass.ASpazNamedSteve said:If it was a very slow self heal, I COMPLEEEETELY agree.
It's obvious the devs don't have the balls to give this perk a substantial nerf, so it should be added to base and turned into something else. This perk desperately needs to be less mandatory, all other perks change from person to person... but Self Care? Self Care is ALWAYS in every survivor's build.
We’ll just have to wait and see how things progress. -
I see your point; A “passive game” due to survivors not willing to “take a hit”. But should our survivor players really feel like it’s not a huge risk for a Killer to rip at their flesh? I’ve never gotten to run Self Care once (although I’d like to try), but I’ve taken hits, lethal hits for my fellow survivors; And sometimes this means exchanging my life for theirs. But alas, it is a risk that I find incredibly worth the satisfaction of saving a friend (or stranger).Shadoureon said:@thesuicidefox said:
I'm a survivor main and I think Self Care should be taken out of the game. Seriously, that one perk ruins the entire meta. It's the reason DS, BT (old version), and literally everything else is so powerful BECAUSE you can self heal.If they took it out they wouldn't need to do anything else to balance the game.
Not having self care makes the game so passive. Survivors are willing to take a hit to help teammates because if the killer doesnt chace they can self heal. Without the option to heal yourself would any survivor purposely get hit?
I think games will be more passive and will take much longer wich ruins it. Some people already wait for someone to get hit by a killer before they start a generator. This will only happen more if you remove self care imo.
-
Well, besides the fact that you can Wake Up by failing certain skill checks. As we know; A failed skill check regresses completion on the given action. And when The Nightmare puts a survivor to sleep, their action speed is severely reduced.
So... although Overcharge guarantees a “skill check to Wake Up”, it inevitably causes survivors to fall into a REAL nightmare. Where falling asleep and waking up only leaves plenty of unfinished generators!
But one time I did regretably bring Distressing for Freddy... goodbye auras. -
As excited as I am about The Clown, I’ve got plenty of patience- as we know for a fact that BHVR has not forgotten about us dearly beloved console players.
-
You speak the truth fellow member. But I fear it’s too late, as these “big-topic perks” are seemingly already on many players Go-To load outs. “Why if I could give myself a little bit of an edge over my opponent; a ‘thrilling’ experience may be a sacrifice” -a trade off that more players than we think, are willing to pay.Coriander said:I've thought about the innate self-healing before, but it would essentially remove a good bit of depth out of the game, making the killer less-frightening by getting caught and attacked. You should be afraid of the killer, and do everything you can to hide first and foremost; failing that, run for your life because your survival depends on it. If everyone can naturally heal up after every hit (given time, at least) the whole process isn't as thrilling or desperate, which is what a game of this nature is supposed to portray.
You and I and a smaller group from the majority may appreciate the thrill of fear and uncertainty. And...
Halfway through my comment, I forgot Kill Your Friends can offer this niche indulgence more frequently than playing with random players anyway SO; May we wait and see what will our developers do regarding our “hot perks”? -
Maybe we should all take a look at ourselves? “How do I personally get my joy from playing survivor?”. For example, (early (or late) in a trial) if I am hooked, or put in the dying state for an extended period of time; “Do I accept the fact that a killer is not partial?”
This is not a simple epidemic that can be cured, no. What we need is healthy players.
If a player simply doesn’t want to play Dead By Daylight, why bother staying in a “boring” match? -as these players my view it. -
An interesting point. But perhaps the better question, is: What is of more value? Perks or Cosmetics?
Perhaps our perks are more valuable than we think... Although personally I’d take a new look for The Wraith over a perk any day!
-
As much as I don’t feel a strong need for changes with past Mori’s... I can’t argue with this suggestion. And maybe a different camera angle for Trappers’ kill? I’m no expert in cinematography though.DocOctober said:What I would prefer first is a rework of the Hillbilly's Mori, having him put away his Hammer first, like the Doctor. Currently it's glued to his hand and looks like a cheap, weightless plastic prop.
-
Me personally, I don’t mind the “simplicity” in how the original 3 Killers Mori survivors. Sometimes, for me, a Killer doesn’t need a fancy execution in order to strike fear. If you’ve never seen the first Texas Chainsaw Massacre for example, I would definitely recommend it.
-
I use my files every now and then, when I don’t want to use rarer add-ons, and when I want to keep on the sneak.
I’ve only carried about 40 files at once. My speed limiters I use whenever I have em. -
It was only a matter of time. The Dead By Daylight team seemed to want to focus on the fear of the game. Mathieu Cote mentioned in a Dev stream that he was interested in “...seeing people at their best, and seeing people at their worst.”
Players are now always giving their best (Survivors AND Killers) which involves playing the right way each and every trial; Most likely, using the same perks, same jukes, same decisions. At the end of the day, it’s up to the majority of our players to decide if “victory”, is worth the “repetition” and possible stress. -
All the Killers’ different personalities really instill some fear in me in their own ways. The Hillbilly still freaks me out with his animalistic movements and thinking, yet... he’s also innovative? And seeing Myers stalking from far away AND standing motionless always makes me jumpy.
-
“Face”camping generally means to literally sit with your face in front of the hooked survivor. I’ll admit that sometimes if I come across a survivor (or a whole team) in low ranks who play extremely well (jukes like a dancer), and the exit gates are powered; Sometimes I’ll sadly tunnel the One (or one from the group) so that I can ensure their sweet sacrifice to the Entity.
Otherwise I do not face camp... unless I play Myers. Then I’ll face camp for 10 seconds then leave after a book sometimes. Gotta stay in character at all times! -
Survive With Friends IS in a weird spot at the moment. Friends like to play together for a good time, and some friends (or even strangers) want to min/max the gameplay elements in order to “win” every single trial. Ofcourse, everyone can find their enjoyment somehow, but the problem with these hardcore SWF groups is that they gain the ability to “put out” your average joe Killer players- even some of the best will struggle.
But at some point... is victory even worth the bragging rights? It’s a stressful matchup that I’ve played quite a few times as Killer. I usually quit after for awhile after “those” matches... -
I love to use Monitor & Abuse on Myers. Sometimes I’ll keep my Evil Within gauge at level one, but close to level 2, so that I can sneak around before survivors actually know who they’re even up against. And even after my presence is made known, I can keep on the sneak on those pesky survivors.
-
GhostEuant said:Find a group to play Kill Your Friends with (if you don’t already have one) to have fun/random games with in between regular matches.
I’m with this Member on this one. KYF may be just what your looking for. Although it’s fun to have engaging and fun/scary trials with real random people, it’s just not guaranteed you’ll get players in a match who will “play for fun”; Killers being “dramatic” in their actions, and survivors who get “into their role” and immerse themselves as a survivor.
Then again, players find different things “fun” about Dead By Daylight. -
I like The Doctor the most due to his ability being able to make things more tense for survivors. Like the static flares on screen and hallucinations.
-
Hm this is gonna take some getting used to
-
What you MAY possibly want my friend, is simply more fun. Dead by Daylight is not what it used to be or was invisioned to be in my opinion- based on dev diaries and their comments. It seemed like they wanted to focus on the ‘fear’ (or even excitement) aspect of the game; With no substitute for ‘real’ people and real human emotion; Mathieu Cote explained his interest in “...seeing people at their best, and seeing people at their worst.”
What happens though, when players become more experienced? And when their best is always an easy decision- whether it be choosing to rescue or selfishly leave their teammates behind (Or even if they’re spotted by the killer); There isn’t much for a player to contemplate on when they have no fear for any adverse consequences.
Don’t misunderstand me though, it’s still a fun game; But what many players find (or forced to accept) “fun” is trying your absolute best to “win” (survive or kill every survivor) every second of each game. Now of course, there’s some players who don’t abide by these standards (such as myself in a way). But as a killer, who controls the flow of each trial (much like a GameMaster in a roleplaying game); Is it still fun to play “your own way” even though your ‘fellow’ players (survivors) “put you out” (as a Killer even)?
The game (as a whole) is in a very competitive state as of right now- it was only a matter of time. And unless the “attitude” or mentality of players change, this fact won’t either. -
As much as I hate body blocking sometimes, this would cause utter pandemonium among hardcore or “just business” survivor players. If only killers could move survivors by colliding with them- even if just a little.
-
First of all, you served that Jake a fresh slice of justice.
Secondly... take this over to the Killer subforum next time.
-
Okay let’s all be honest here. TrapMan would win a foot race with BigFunny any day.
-
I like number 3. As players get more used to the game and more experienced players are born; survivors simply don’t “fear” a killer. There was once fear of what was unknown, but now there’s nothing scary about watching a killer place a lethal bear trap with three other survivors watching. If you see The Trapper placing his equipment, then the equipment loses its lethality.
“Why would I carefully sneak around when I’ve had TrapMan in my sights the pass 5 minutes? I saw where he put his traps!”
Traps don’t place themselves, you need time. Time that hardcore survivors use to finish your generators! -
When I play The Doctor I like to listen to Jack Johnson sometimes. I can track my prey with aura perks too so that I can keep calm and listen on... while all 4 survivors get away sadly...
-
Just for fun; I like to use Monitor & Abuse, Spies from the Shadows, Sloppy Butcher, and Overcharge (good if I didn’t have teachables). I like being able to track my prey.
-
“...find a code that Billy wrote down somewhere close...”
If the code is anything but 1234 you’re in trouble. -
Crowmageddeon gave me chuckles.
-
I support this wish wholeheartedly. The subtle effects in a game are by far the most memorable. It wouldn’t even have to be A-class effects! As long as it fits, and doesn’t mess with FPS- I’m all in!
-
An interesting idea, but I wouldn’t expect anything like that anytime soon. I’d love to drill Myers in the gut with a flying toolbox though.
-
You make a good point (I personally do not like to linger close to an exit gate without dire reason to stay), but perhaps more killer players than we think? I personally think any player in any kind of game or sport, doesn’t like to lose. When a player is then forced to be “humiliated”- or “sit and think” about their loss, our killers may become more willing to put a “finished” trial behind them, and focus on the next match.foxofthestars said:Honestly though, how many Killers would be willing to concede ? I can say that i probably would depending on what the survivors were doing. Say trolling, Teabagging, ect. I as a survivor do not linger in trial. I leave and move on to the next match.
I have stayed and spectated others before and i have noticed that a lot of them just hang around to troll the killer or to just jump across pallets . I think it's crazy and a waste of time but to each his/her own. -
Killers are really the “GameMasters” of Dead By Daylight. They not only have a crucial role in the entire game (being one side vs the other), but they also control the fun of a match.
Whether they play as a “cold killer”- with “perfect perks” and no mercy (same goes for survivors), or if they perhaps “role play” their actions- letting a survivor go early in a chase, or perhaps performing certain actions without haste; Subtle things like these can make ANY game fun.
When I suffer problems such as yours. As survivor, you have to take your losses with grace- you are a survivor after all, and “not fun” games may occur. As killer, the same applies. I get “just business” survivors most times, who don’t appreciate a “fun” or “exciting” match.
All I can say is: if you want to play DbD, go for it. Have FUN. But if you need to take a break (such as myself for 4 months), don’t let it get to you. -
With no regard to how “challenging” the killer is; my favorite to play against is Trapper. When it’s quiet and I’m playing stealth-like, but only to step gingerly on a bear trap is devastating, and saps my hope. It’s a thrill to lose sometimes.
