Takes too long and ruins the game. TF2 contracts (similar to this, only one at a time) are less grindy. AND YOU EARN REAL MONEY FROM THEM FOR ANY GAME.
This is not grindy. It's asking you to do things that you would wind up doing anyway except for the single trial challenges, and even those only take 1-3 attempts.

"The story never once depicts Yui in a negative way."
Seriously? SHE LITERALLY BREAKS THE LAW DURING THOSE RACES!!!
Not going to college makes her unable to find an actual job. Quote from her backstory that says this: "She could only find low grade clerical work or minor jobs as a hostess." Of course she went to racing, it's the ONE thing she's good at.
"Manages to overpower an armed an armed assailant even though she has never had any experience fighting in her life." Did you skip over the surge of adrenaline she had? Have you HEARD what adrenaline and the desire to survive does to people? Did you read the amount of damage she took? Another quote: "X-rays revealed she had broken her arm and foot in several places."
Look, I will agree that her backstory is a bit on the feminist side, and I tend to dislike these stories myself. But she still has flaws. She is only good at one thing, so of course she's going to use that to help others. Yeah, she fought off her stalker... with pretty severe injuries. Oh, and that one thing she is good at. She still had to read her grandfather's manual to help herself get better. She was passionate about racing, of course she would learn fast. And she's technically a criminal.
None of the college/job stuff is depicted in a negative way in the story. It isn't shown as it being a mistake, or the wrong thing to do.
Yes she breaks the law, but the story just glances over that in passing. It never says she had any run-ins with police or did anything she regretted.
Yeah and the attacker wouldn't have an adreneline rush? I'm not saying it would be impossible for her to survive the attack or even to kill him, I'm saying it's very contrived the way it happens. Yui never fails at anything. She is always victorious in everything she does. Choosing to race instead of going to college is not a failure because that was her goal, and she succeeded at it.

But she has flaws, more than someone like Kate, that is described in a much better light than Yui, that you could get a few flaws from her actions in her story: Like, she literally refused to go to college to focus on her races, which is not exactly wise:
When it came time to apply for school, Yui gathered her courage and confessed her ambition to race motorcycles to her father. An altercation ensued and when Yui refused to apply for a proper education, her father felt a great shame and told her she was no longer welcome in their home.
Or her confronting the stalker because she couldn’t bear watching go through her stuff, which proved dangerous and severely hurt her:
One evening Yui returned home to find the stalker in her apartment going through her things. He hadn’t seen her, and she wasn’t sure what she should do. But the sight of him going through her clothes was too much to bear. She yelled for him to leave.
Which makes sense, because she has a quote that clearly shows her overconfidence:
“That is not enough to beat me. Not even close.”
And anyway, I don’t think that a Mary Sue is merely someone without internal conflicts, that is a negative aspect of a character, but you can have characters that are just content with who they are, and not have any big flaw and still be good characters. Really, for me, mary sue is such an overused term whose definition changes so much that I really don’t care about it anymore. Characters, specially female, aren’t really bad characters anymore, but Mary Sue, which somehow, is worse.
There is only one definition of the term. It may be misused by people who don't understand it, but that doesn't change uts meaning. The term refers to any character who has no flaws.
And again, those examples you listed (except *maybe* the overconfidence if you choose to interpret that quote that way) aren't flaws. Choosing to pursue her passions rather than go to college is something that is depicted as a positive thing, and her father is depicted as being unreasonable. This is not a flaw in Yui.
Does Yui have a drinking problem? Angry outbursts that make it hard for her to make friends? Is she greedy? Is she a comlulsive spender? Does she have a problem with running her mouth? We don't know. Because the story doesn't tell us anything about her personality other than "women's empowerment" and "racing." There's literally nothing else to her. Then she manages to overpower an armed assailant even though she has never had any experience fighting in her life. And then she manages to become the leader of a badass biker gang because reasons. The story never once depicts Yui in a negative way.
-
Plague is fine. Shr is one of the bottom performers. Some survivors are just babies. I'm happy for the upcominv dc penalty.
-
Every survivor in the game has some kind of personality flaw except Yui.
-
@Khorzad said:
Eh, I think that the lorw of Yui is alright. She is basically the same type of survivor as someone like Kate was: Someone with a great potential in life that was also loved, inspiring and t gave hope to everyone around them. The thing with them is that all of their success and potential doesn’t matter when in the end they get snatched by the Entity to suffer forever in its realm, no one will ever know that they were there, so the story is more tragic for that. Also, the Entity gains a nice bonus, as those kind of survivor will maintain hope longer (and give others hope too) so those kind of people will be a good target for the Entity.
And Yui being a Mary Sue...eh, sorry, but I find that ludicrous. Yui barely has any character at all, her story is very short to give that kind of titlle and of course is not that well developed compared to the killer: Killers tend to have a lot of more personality and backstory put into them, while survivors get just a very general picture, Yui is not different in that regard.
And I wouldn’t even call her a Mary Sue from what little we know: She had obstacles in her life, with his father disowned for his hobbies, having a stalker that the policy ignored, having to compete in illegal races, going to rehab, her deal seems to be turning those problems into strength, but they were still things that she had to overcome and did mostly with help of others, yes, we didn’t see her do it step by step, but little can you do to show that in a couple of paragraphs. Kate had less problems going on for her, as no one in her family objected to her goals.
Although I agree on the Oni backstory being one of the best, I love how, thanks to the add-ons, we can find more about his family, how his son got hurt in an accident, Kazan went to a temple multiples times to pray for him, but the boy remained crippled for the rest of his life, which probably fuel his obsession or even started it: His own flesh and blood could never become a samurai, while people from lower classes were becoming samurais, which would probably feel like an insult to someone so obsessed with honoring family.
A mary-sue isn't someone who has no conflict, it's someone who has no flaws (or internal conflict.) Everything they do is perfect. That fits Yui pretty well. Everything she does is perfect. She never makes mistakes. She never does anything morally wrong. Etc.

Some of these challenges are crazy and will require nothing but RNG or farming. Things like
"No One Escapes the Endgame" Sacrifice 2 survivors during EGC with NOED in one trial.
"Last Minute Hero" Unhook 2 survivors during EGC in one trial. Must unhook them safely.
These challenges are crazy. It's already rare enough to get a single hook/unhook in EGC, asking for 2 is going to require farming. These challenges are specifically the ones we said we didn't want. The bullshit ones that are either going to take crazy amounts of luck or farming. The Shard count doesn't even increase, meaning it's getting harder for less and less reward. Tome 4 is going to be downright stupid.
That's not hard. You see hook tradeoffs happen all the time in EGC when the gate is open. Killer hooks and camps a surv. Other surv comes to save them, succeed, but gets hooked in the process, repeat until ome of them dies and the other 3 escape.

So you think a good survivor would linger around the basement when the killer is there? I guess you still have a lot to learn about DbD.

So if 2-4 survivors are in the basement, it's only because the killer was good ? Hum. I don't think.
Yes, they will play borrow time in front of the killer, and they will be down easily, a stupid challenge, fast game, less fun ! :D
No, it's because the survivors were bad.

You didn't understand at all.
Being unhooked twice near the killer will mean that survivors are farming me for a challenge.
Hooking all survivors in the basement are boring for everyone, except for trash players. I play fair as killer when survivors play fair too, I don't want to punish all survivors for a challenge.
You punish survivors for making mistakes. If you manage to hook everyone in the basement, they made several huge mistakes. Also the hook saves have to be "Safe Unhook" events.

The devs might be more inclined to listen to our feedback if we make an honest attempt at the challenges before writing them off as ridiculous or impossible.
It takes a fair amount of time, and a lot of work for the data team, to compile those stats. Yes, it would be nice if we got more detail, but they're trying to do their best since the stats are so highly requested. You seem to be forgetting that they are under zero obligation to show us any of the data they have collected at all.
And they can't make everyone happy with their balance changes. They do their best to take feedback on board, but ultimately there's a lot more that goes into those decisions than just player opinions. I'm sorry you were disappointed, but there are always going to be things the devs do in the game that you don't agree with. It's just not realistic to expect otherwise.
Agreed. At least try them before throwing a fit like a spoiled 12 year old who didn't get what they wanted.

Behavior will never listen us. Not a surprise.
Challenges are ridiculous. Let's play as survivor to be farmed and to be camped, and to be tunnel cuz I will be the obsession. *clap clap* I don't want to play this week cuz you can't make good challenges.
As Killer I won't take pleasure to be mean by hooking everyone in the basement during many games + kill and mori the obsession + kill two survivors with noed during EGC (if I can ;) )
By the way :
You're stats are ridiculous, we want more stats.
I wanted a nerf for the nurse, you make a wrong nerf.
I wanted a nerf for the spirit, you make a wrong nerf.
I wanted a nerf for instaheals, you've done it, good job, only thing good ?
Many things need to be nerfed, maybe in one year.
Getting hooked twice in one match means you got tunneled?
Hooking everyone in the basement is mean?
🙄 I suppose sacrificing survivors at all is mean too, isn't it. Maybe we just shouldn't hit them either.

In their defense, most of the Survivors are intentionally one-dimensional, in line with the various Final Girls they're all (and yes, I mean the men too) based on.
This is true, most survivors aren't legendary examples of writing, but at least they had some kind of internal conflict. Feng had self esteem issues and a drinking problem, David was a violent jackass, Claudette has social anxiety disorder, dwight is a wimp, etc. These characters all without exception have extraordinary traits that counterbalance these flaws though, and that is what makes them human.

@Artyomich said:
Survivor skill is at an all time low is the case really. Go play a random queue in red ranks with Bond and the staggering amount of casual mistakes is mind blowing.
Killers are improving skill wise but Survivors are declining once their clutches got Nerfed. Were they even skilled in the first place? Oh well.
We've been saying for a long time in this community that playing survivor takes a very tiny amount of skill. It more just "knowing what to do with X part of the map." and "knowing how to use the meta."
Playing killer (especially without Ruin) is considerably harder against coordinated teams of survivors. You need to plan ahead and juggle 4 players who are EACH completely capable of going 1v1 with you for a long period of time, and whenever they aren't going 1v1 with you, they are on gens.
Imo, a survivor should never be able to 1v1 a skilled and experienced killer for more than 30-45 seconds, no matter what said killer is or what they have equipped. I play both sides and it makes me feel very disillusioned when I can humiliate a good killer player.
-
It's a known issue that's been in the game since launch. If you can't get a match as killer, try playing survivor or vice versa. Usually it only effects one side. It is not an issue with your internet or player count. It is a matchmaking bug that effects certain people seemingly at random.

How else would you describe a change that removes the primary use of a perk? As I said above. I don't disagree with nerfing it. It just seemed too heavy handed. Hell if they'd have made the silent landing part active even while exhausted I'd have said it was a lateral move. One that removed the problem with balanced while adding utility to it.

The answer is "No, we will not stop people from playing with their friends or give them a debuff for it, but we will change game mechanics and perks to make it so solo play is just as strong as SWF, then we will buff killers to be balanced around that level of play." And they have been doing this incrementally. Update by update, it becomes a little more balanced toward SWF.

this momerts often gets to the point where game can be considered as game hostage. I had alot of games where doctor didn't even try to chase survivors or chase just a litle bit. And thouse game were go on and go on,.. once i had a 1 hour game like that... so no... got what he deserved... even tho game were goin for 20 minutes
I will tell you why that's not holding the game hostage. The reason they don't keep chasing you is because if they did, a gen would definitely get done. What that is called is a "stalemate:" When both sides are trying to win, but neither one can make progress because they will lose if they try to do the objective. So they both keep going back and forth in a tug of war, waiting until they see the other side to make a mistake so that they can win. Sometimes this happens and neither side makes any mistakes, so neither one can win.
Again, this is not holding the game hostage. If you wanted to, you could just run to a gen and start working on it and just let the killer get you, then boom, you would be out of the match and the killer would win. He is TRYING to kill you and protect the gens at the same time, and if you led him on a chase too close to the gens, he would 100% chase you and down you.
Personally, these are my favorite kinds of matches if they alst around 15-25 minutes. They are soooo intense. It's the only time Dead by Daylight is ever challenging.

few moments ago had a game where killer (doctor) managed to make 3 gen chain
at this time we had one survivor dead
we were trying to repair 1 of the gens, but ultimatly failed.... and then, when onother survivor was sacrificed, i realised that all that time i had a key in my hands... and hatch was near one of those 3 gens that i was constantly trying to repair...
and yes - me and my random fella escaped
Yeah, you did 3gen yourselves. That means 4 gens were completed and the last 3 were close to eachother. Under these circumstances the killer has a huge advantage. The way to prevent this situation is to save the gens on the edges of the map until last and do the middle ones first.
However, good use of the key. Lucky you had it 😁

I think that the Oni would be the most physically powerful Killer, as not only is he huge and very strong, but is by far the most skilled out of all of them, being so good that as a human he was defeating groups of samurais on his own, so he would be a beast to fight. He would be followed by Demogorgon,Huntress,Michael, the Trapper, Hillbilly,Wraith and Leatherface.
But in terms of more esoteric abilities, Freddy is the absolute king, because even limited he still has shown a lot of control over the dream world and if we look at his teleport, he can basically create bodies out of blood, so he possible can be defeated. The second most powerful would be the Spirit, the Nurse, the Plague, Hag and the Doctor.
The rest are more average in power or their skill are suited less to direct combat, but I think that it would go from strongest to weakest:Ghostface,Clown,Pig and Legion.
This is however, if we are not using the Halloween Blight versions, that canonically boost the Killers a lot, as shown by the Trapper, that I would think be the physically strongest killer, only bested by the Oni due to the superior skill of the latter.
Also, I think that people are underestimating the Hag. Yes, she is a emancipated corpse that is not very big, but she is a supernatural creature, so I think that is not an indication of her strength, that is obviously enough to rip people apart like they were made of paper. I mean, after being transformed, she literally killed and ate an entire village of cannibals, so no human being can hope to defeat her in melee combat.
"Emancipated." Lol just had to laugh at that. But yes I agree with you 100% about Hag.

@EmpathyModule said:
Time for me guessing how my main (the Demogorgon) would fare against all the killers. Going off of the licensed killers movies and not in game, and going off the barebones aspects of the original characters disregarding game mechanics...
Demogorgon vs. Michael: I see the Demogorgon easily eviscerating Michael, he's just a man with a knife despite his 'pure evilness', eventually the Demogorgon would tear Michael into incapacitation or death.
Demogorgon vs. Spirit: While I don't see the Demogorgon being able to be damaged by the Spirit very efficiently, I don't know if the Demogorgon could destroy the Spirit. If the Demogorgon can shred her physical body that would count as a win, otherwise it'd be a slow and steady process of slicing up the poor helpless beast.
Demogorgon vs. Nurse: Same as vs. the Spirit, except the Nurse is much more physical and even weaker. The Demogorgon is more likely to be able to destroy the Nurse, and if not, the Nurse couldn't kill it. Stalemate.
Demogorgon vs. Freddy: If the Demogorgon is in a 'microsleep' like the survivors, Freddy could be weak enough to be killed. However if the Demogorgon is fully asleep, Freddy could probably kill it. I'm not sure of the extent of Freddy's omnipotence in the dream world, but he could probably conjure up something that can kill it.
Demogorgon vs. Oni: If the Oni were bloodlusted, the Demogorgon would absolutely lose. However, the Oni might not be able to draw blood from the Demogorgon in the first place, and even then its blood might not fuel him. I believe that the Demogorgon has a little advantage against normal Oni, but loses against fully powered Oni.
Demogorgon vs. Trapper: Trapper loses, easily. In the show the Demogorgon gets caught in a bear trap, but unless he has the chance to place those, he's helpless (even if the Demogorgon was caught in a trap, the Trapper would die trying to approach it).
Demogorgon vs. Hillbilly: The Hillbilly has more leverage than the Trapper, but still loses I believe. If the Hillbilly can get a good chainsaw in the right place then the Demogorgon is a goner but the Demogorgon would probably get the jump first.
Demogorgon vs. Wraith: Wraith's dead. All he can do is hide in the spirit world.
Demogorgon vs. Huntress: Huntress is dead. Those hatchets aren't doing anything
Demogorgon vs. Legion: Oh god, it's a bloodbath
Demogorgon vs. Clown: A feast, and not because the Demogorgon's got big fingers
Demogorgon vs. Pig: Like Legion but less blood
Demogorgon vs. Doctor: The Demogorgon has a tie to electricity in the first place. Those shocks wouldn't even get through the skin. All that metal wouldn't taste very good though.
Demogorgon vs. Leatherface: Mix between the Clown and the Hillbilly. Leatherface has a much smaller chance of landing a devastating chainsaw hit, however, but will make for good chili either way.
Demogorgon vs. Hag: The Demogorgon wouldn't bother with rotten meat, but it would stop it from struggling.
Demogorgon vs. Plague: The Demogorgon would be turned off from the sickly flesh but would gladly cut the fountain off.
Demogorgon vs. Ghostface: Once he's found, it's over.
I agree with most of these except Nurse. Remember, Nurse is a breath spirit. Her element is air. Her being in the area is enough to give you a lot of difficulty breathing, according to the description of Stridor. Her theme is suffocation, and she is a ghost. Idk if the Demo has to breathe oxygen, but Nurse wouldn't be a stalemate if it does.

The problem with outrageous challenges is that we've been asking for lore for years, and the only way to get tiny increments is to complete these insane "do it all in the same trial, good luck!" nightmares that cause you to either hinder your team or otherwise become a disadvantage.
Three complete gens? In one trial, vs. three other gen-hungry people?
Two full heals using medkit? I have to stack top-tier kits and perks just to attempt this, and if I die I have to find another kit somehow. I haven't bothered checking all the killer goals, I can't imagine what a nightmare that's going to be.
I think having challenges is great, but some are more aggravating than they need to be, especially considering you don't have access to all challenges simultaneously. You could be working to progress multiple at a time, then when you've done say 8-10/20 challenges, you unlock the next tier.
That doesn't need to be on a single medkit. Just look in a chest. Also "find another kit somehow." What? You don't have more than one brown medkit sitting in your inventory? You make it sound like finding a medkit is rare.
Also, I can get two full heals off of a yellow medkit with Botany Knowldge and the brown charges addon. It doesnt need to be top tier anything.

I think the main problem is, is that sometimes it can come down to RNG and not necessarily the skill of the player involved. Need to heal someone? Watch everyone bring in self care and medkit, need to unhook people? Others get the unhook before you, basement hooks? You down a survivor the opposite side of the map.
Now challenges are not impossible, but if you need to flashlight save TWICE in a single match, as soon as you do it once, the killer is going to make sure that no one else is around or look towards a wall when picking up another survivor.
Also you just have to face the fact that you won't get every challenge on your first attempt. There's nothing wrong with needing to take multiple attempts at the single match challenges, as long as they don't take more than 10 attempts.

I dunno...Hag just seems a bit weak compared to Spirit and Nurse. Spirit is a vengeful and rage-filled ghost with a katana. Nurse is a warping ghost with a bone saw. Hag is just a short muddy skeleton with a hand as a weapon. She won’t stand a chance against those two.
But she is a witch. They are cursed spirits. It seems to me that, while Hag would fail against all the other killers, Hag would be the only one who could harm the ghosts. Other than the other ghosts anyway. Idk what would happen if one ghost tried to kill another ghost.
Hag has the ability to curse people though, and it could be assumed thag she is also capable of doing other things, like warding away spirits, sealing them into objects, etc.

That being said, Adiris or Amanda.
The nurse has many chunks of flesh of her body missing. From the way it looks in the WW1 outfit and the outfit where you can see the cavity where her heart used to be, it seems that most of her torso is gone.

Not when the animation starts, the survivor gets away and you cant even get a normal hit that would you get anyway. When the game punishes you for no mistakes that is a big problem.
That doesn't happen anywhere near as often as a successful grab though. Just do silent bell wraith with the 6 second terror radius suppression and approach gens from behind.

The reason hag is the least popular is because she requires thinking ahead, being skillful in reaction time and trap placement, and being very difficult to play if not used properly. If you're the kind of person who just mindlessly places traps and chase survivors you're going to do bad with her hence why her pick rate is so low because her play style is hard to grasp. Same with nurse she takes a HELL of a lot of skill now so really the only people who can 4k every game are the pros and they are very rare to come across. So while nurse does have some bad stats it does not reflect how a god nurse does because they 4k pretty much every game.

I honestly don't know. For me, "viability" means "able to win", which means a killer should be able to 3-4K consistently in the hands of a good killer.
So 75%+?
The devs said a long time ago that they want it to be around a 60% kill rate in red ranks. Idk if they still stick to that, but these stats seem to fit somewhat well with that.

Disagree. Grabbing is easy. Learn to plan ahead.

I play both and hate that perk; it rewards failure so hard that it's disgusting tbh. it would be good enough with the speed boost alone - it makes no sense to give both benefits to the killer in a single perk slot, in all honesty, just as I wouldn't expect MoM to both give an endurance hit AND adrenaline, for example.
9 times out of 10 where I see Noed are on supoer strong killers that would never need the perk in a million years, and it's really depressing to see.
That and I'm not even sure that if I were to use it, it would ever even proc as I always seem to find survivors on duil totems when I play killer (yet I'm always the only one on my team to touch them in survivor games lmao)
Failure doesn't happen until the match is over. Just because the exit gates are powered it doesn't mean the killer failed.

As long as I double pip, I don't give a ######### whether I get smacked with NOED at the end. It's a fine perk, and it punishes gen rushing. No problems from me. But I play both roles.

It really isn't all that challenging if your somewhat well versed in the game. Several are essentially 'just play the objective'. Getting a grab takes a few games if you are unlucky and the Dark Sense challenge where you must compete 3 generators over also over hyped. I completed it in my first attempt.
If people are freaked out by this stuff, then they have no chance of getting Tome IV done.
But, maybe there was just come confusion about the requirements of the harder challenges.
Dark Sense challenge; you do not need to complete 3 generators by yourself 0-100%. Just bring a good tool box and play a little immersed with perks that help you before the exit gates are done/do generators.
Grab challenge; grabbing off generators, totems, out of lockers, exit gates, pallets, and windows will complete the challenge. You'll most likely get someone out of a locker, pallet, or window. The last two can happen when a survivor is injured and either slow vaulting or slow sprint vaulting when you are very close.
Edit: It should also be noted some of the harder challenges are not required to be done to complete the Tome. You only need to follow one track and there are many challenges that do not lead directly to the Tome Epilogue.
Harder challenges? There were no hard challenges. At all. People bitched about the grab one but honestly, grabbing people isn't even hard. Not even at Rank 1.

The devs don't have any problem with it, but they warn that doing this could potentially cause an Easy Anti-Cheat auto-ban somewhere down the line and if that happens, they can't unban you.
I've had my resolution and framerate manually set 4k and 60fps for about 2 years now and it's never caused any issues, and there has never been any known cases of people getting auto-banned over it.
