So it seems experience has been mixed so far with the new MMR. I played two matches, the second one I pipped up to rank 16. Now I dont have to play the rest of the season if I choose not to, as my rest will be rank 17. Skill based MMR no longer considering play time reached: explain how a rank 17 guy with 2 hours play time past 2 weeks is skilled enough to face a rank 10 killer? Thats one more than the max of 6 I am supposed to face.
-
If the rank system is no longer used, then remove the depipping associated with the old ranking system. I would feel happier then seeing my rank get higher based on the time I actually play.
-
The bloodrush event is only a week, I suggest you skip playing till its over. It attracts a den of scum and villainy usually players who dont play killer that much but will do so out of spite.
-
I think the "bad player" is being associated with "new or beginning player". Admit everyone plays like trash when they first start, then over time they get better, they find a survivor character or killer character they do better on, or feel more confident using.
In my case my "bad" survivors are those where I am missing certain perks that I like to use. I wont list them as I am sure someone will say "man you use spine chill, what a wuss" or whatever.
But yea I see a lot of Bills and Claudettes, and some are good, and others are like bad news. They will perform unsafe hooks, blow up generators constantly as they refuse to downtune settings to a window and 29% resolution even tho the skill checks would become easier at "low settings".
The worst ones in my opinion are what my friends call "entitled survivors" -- usually a survivor in the red ranks thats slumming it with green or yellows and upset they got tunneled.
-
The screen cap you posted show the killer also disconnected. Regardless of a player disconnect, if the killer disconnect its game over, and thus his build would be seen. No advantage to your friends as the match is over. I suspect what happened is that you glitched out of the match (hence your post) and the killer needed a rift challenge. Since killer had no way to complete the challenge they quit... just a suggestion based on what I see on your screen cap.
-
- Last match I played I got 3,049 blood points, I failed all objectives and I have over 600 hours in game. Sure I got tunneled, but at the end of the day you have to assume every match is not going to be a tunnel fest, its like going out to eat at a restaurant never sure if the food will be ok or not; each time you go you hope the meal will be nice.
- If you find the game is upsetting you, take a break, I did for like a week but it was because of the rank achieves which upset me a lot.
- I heard they have added hidden skill levels. If that is being used for matchmaking, then remove the depips. I want to see what rank I would be if I didnt have to deal with tunnelling and generally poor games at times.
- I spent 10 bucks buying the pass after saying I wouldnt. The sad thing is I am now considering buying out 20 tiers so I can "catch up" with my buddy after a week's absence from the game.
- I pretty much hate myself, have alow opinion of my skill, and due to the way ranks are set up have little idea of how skillful I truly am.
-
I am seeing rank 4, rank 11, and a rank 10 in the end game list and I am rank 16, normally that tells me its an SWF led by the 4, tho why I am being MATCHED with a rank 4 at rank 16 I don't know.
I was so mad about the stupid rank debacle with the achieves being given out like candy that I quit playing for a week, now I hear something about hidden skill levels... is that implemented? If it is then I wont be able to guess who is SWF anymore.

(Moderator note: technically this isnt a Bug Report so if you wish move it to Off Topic.)
-
One trial due to a bug there were four piggys in the match as killer and one survivor, the survivor had four options:
- Disconnect
- Die on first hook
- Look for the hatch
- Loop the four killrs who followed him in a line, never thinking to co-ordinate their approach.
Which one would you do?
And the generators have the new ruin on them too...
-
I was always curious why in certain events which required the survivors to complete blighted gens that ruin would be used. In addition, I had to stop using the perk that breaks a hook after being unhooked (one of Jakes I think) as the Killer thought I was deliberately targeting his blighted hooks.
Perhaps having crows gather and squawk when more than one player is working a gen as a general thing (not a perk) would slow down gen repairs? I accept the counter would be the animal calming perk.
-
As a survivor main, I hate depipping so much that if I depip due to a mistake I make, or the killer deciding I should die at all costs (the reason I dont play Steve anymore) then it can affect my game play.
Usually I have to take a break to avoid my anger affecting the team or the match as a whole.
Having said that, a lack of awareness (such as ignoring indications of a stealth killer while doing a gen) can also mess up my game.
I try to not let losing pips ruin my game.
-
Why not have a ranked and a regular que? The regular que still has ranks, and pips, but you dont lose pips. When you hit rank 15 on the regs you may then enter the ranked que, but not before.
Some players being casual or just wanting to have fun would opt for the regs. Sure and it would be nice to allow rift quest in the proposed regs que as well
-
OK point taken.
Its a very difficult job balancing a game when the same trial will be played by someone who got the game for Christmas last week and someone who has been playing since 2016.
-
I dont find ranking up as easy.
For a long while I would gain three pips then lose them all in consecutive matches over and over. The only reason I swf now is that I get better squads to play with.
Since the game removed ranks in the lobby, I have no idea of the quality of the team I will be in. Sure I can control that by only playing 4x1s premades, but I have found in the matches where I have done so, since not everyone is on voice it makes it impossible to co-ordinate, not everyone feels happy using voice in this game.
I would suggest completing one gen one safe unhook and not dying in ten seconds is not going to be enough to pip you up, unless you are playing a different version of DBD, in which case I would like to know where I can get a hold of it.
-
You do get achieves I think for reaching Rank 10, 5 and 1. The method used by the game involves emblems which score between 1 and 4 points per emblem. With the revised rank reset (or if you like the indicator that determines what color crest you are) dropping four ranks into one, it makes it nigh impossible for new players to get a fair chance to learn. Of course new players can make friends, play SWF to be carried thru a trial or even practice on KYF.
But if the matter is ranks are only used for matchmaking then they need to be removed along with pips and emblems. As I have said before, why not have five colors and let the game move you into a higher color when you are good enough. It would avoid the depping that is prevalent. Since ranks are not shown in lobbies to survivors I have no idea who is in my group. I would argue if they were all gray ranks, I would probably play defensively and take less risks, but since I dont know I cant modify my game till the match is in progress.

I have a better idea. With Ur system it will very quickly revert back to how it is now. The ranking system needs to be properly revamped, I'm talking much harsher de-pips (or a system better than useless pips in general). Getting to red ranks doesn't require skill. It just requires time and effort as it's so easy to avoid a de-pip. We need a system that actually places you where you belong. We need a system that rewards you for playing fairly (but not just by ranking, we don't want all the facecampers to drop to rank 20 and meet all the newbies)
What is this game you are playing that "its so easy to avoid a depip"?
Tell me exactly how you would avoid a depip spawning within ten meters of the killer, getting hooked and then nobody else on your team tries to rescue you even tho its obvious the killer is nowhere near you, as the other three just want to gen rush?
-
I think right now the matchmaker is simply using regions and grabbing anyone in que to make a lobby party. It would explain red and purples facing greens or even grays
-
Its a question of how to play as a team. The killer spends all his time trying to hook me, or camps my ass on the hook, the other three escape. My work is done.
-
So you are suggesting a lot of the killer rift challenges will be needing Doc and "zap a survivor 25 times in a single match" sort of challenges?
-
I play solo and I play SWF. I have no idea what ranks are in the lobby pre match. I assume that they are going to be either lower or higher than my rank if solo. If I am playing SWF with a higher ranked player I expect everyone to be higher ranked.
The way I look at it is that if I get a kindly killer who could have killed me as the last survivor but chose to drop me by the hatch I cannot get upset if in the next match I face an evil killer who hooks me once and then camps my ass till I am dead.
I wasnt aware the algorithm also factored in win/loss rates for a given player.
Presently I tend to only play if my friend is playing. They are miles better than me and I have little faith I will ever get as good as them. I continue to play because I am a stubborn mule.
-
Like a few have said, the game needs growth, which means persuading new players not to give up after a day or so game play having the ass handed to them on either side. I guarantee if the game had an absolute block on killers between 15-20 facing survivors higher than 15, their que times would be like an hour. Conversely, a survivor in the 15-20 rank maybe shouldnt get a rank 10 killer, but it happens.
So with the recent rank reset change, entire color crests got dumped into the color crest below.
Maybe if they started ranking survivors and killers individually it might change the distribution of ranks. You start a new killer you never played but are rank 9, you might like to be rank 20, maybe.
-
The friend I normally play with who plays both killer and survivor cleared the hardest tome in three days, clearing the survivor in just over a day. This suggests they are absolutely a genius at DBD and in the end so I choose not to play killer I ended up spending another 15 bucks buying tiers in addition to using the cells I got from the battle pass as I completed tiers.
Then I tried Bendy and the Ink Machine and got stuck on Chapter 2 of that game (posted elsewhere) and the same player cleared the entire run in 6 hours.
I think my concern is that if the rift challenges are that easy for some I should stop playing.
-
I am thinking if you used killer character level that could be abused by blood farming. If you set individual ranks then blood would be tied to the character that earned itand couldnt be "spent" on a different character. You cannot have both.
-
This thread is like the Killer perspective of my earlier thread before Christmas. I havent played since Thursday last week and its now Sunday. While I take the odd day off for a break or heck I actually have stuff to do in real life, the game doesnt make me excited to think, oh hey I can play DBD now for at least four hours with no interruptions.. as most of the matches will be stupidly matchmade.
Rank 16-20 have the no more than six ranks rule removed so they can get a match without waiting two hours. If they are saying in effect your rank doesnt matter, then stop with the depips. Just let people pip up or get neutral
If players are supposed to be that great at the game then the red ranks will be full of killers and survivors sufficient to provide red rank only matches, and the new players or low ranks wont have to deal with it anymore.
-
No. We have secondary objectives for some of the killers already, incluidng the Pig, Plague, the Doc and I suppose Freddy too.
I would add this nonsense to red ranks only since that seems to be the point of most problems killers have with survivors.
Adding a secondary objective at rank 15 or indeed any rank lower than 4 is like forcing a challenge on every survivor which if they fail will likely lead to a depip. Thats why getting tunneled and not being able to do any objectives or save people guarantees a depip.
-
I think part of the problem is inconsistent matches. If you are around rank 15 say, and know if you screw up you can depip or even derank it makes matches where the killer decides you are either the weakest link or maybe they simply dont like your character that much harder to handle.
You get a match in which you last around two minutes and your total blood score is like under 2,000. So you try again and again and sometimes you pip up, and other times you wish your team wasnt so useless at the game.
You would think as you start playing with more experienced survivors against more experienced killers that you would get better...but...
Can we please have an option where I cant depip so I can actually see what dam rank I would be if every other match wasnt a tunnel fest with potatoes.

Yeah I'm a killer main, and I've been getting some weird ones too. I'm rank 9, yet I'll go up against a team of R 1-3, then the next will be 14-17. And keep going back and forth. Where the hell is the middle??
I get ya. I am sorry the game is so lousy with the ranks players face. If we are going to have crazy ranks a patch to restore ranks in lobbies would help, then I can make a decision to take the risk of running against a killer ten ranks higher than me or not.
When they removed the ranks in lobbies I had to assume I would face no higher than 10 (at rank 16), killers, but I feel the algorithm should also apply to survivor ranks. Whilst the game may appear balanced if the killer is 15 and I am 15, its not if the survivor team are all purple apart from me.
As I noted earlier in this thread, I am aware there are new players starting every day, and their experience is whats going to determine if this game will grow or not.
I have seen comments from players saying its too easy to rank up. I wonder if hiding the rank you are all season from even yourself would help. You would not know your rank, you would not know if the pips are in your favor or not, and the emblems would be hidden. All you could do is play against a wide variety of skilled, semi skilled and new or returning players and do your best.
I feel that approach would take a lot of stress out of the game. And that means no ranks shown at the endgame either.
-
OK a quick update" I have found in my last ten matches almost without exception, a purple rank player say 8 or higher but not red is queing with a rank 17 or 18, and the matchmaker is treating the SWF team as if the lower rank is the one to be matched with. The purple rank then acts like a potato the entire match.
In one match I was playing normally (not throwing a match for a stupid challenge) and all THREE of the team disconnected in almost one go right after I got hooked.
I am seriously wondering why we even have ranks? Why not base it on hours played and forget about pips? Its about as logical as the current broken system.
Having said that I do note with interest the comment that matchmaking is being more careless about rank in order to provide quick que times.
I am curious as to what the times would be if they instituted a hard and fast rule that SWF cannot team up if more than three ranks apart and killers/survivors cannot face anyone higher or lower than three ranks from their own rank.
Sure the que times would go up but at least the matches might be more balanced than this festival of utter garbage we have presently
EDIT: I also reviewed some of the other posts in this thread, and I feel giving us back our ranks in the lobby would help a solo decide if they wanted to play with an SWF group or not. The worst case scenario is a 7 a 10 anda 17 all on voice commns and coordinating gen repairs and unhooks so the solo is more or less marooned in the game with nothing to do except either use Bond and try to catch a gen before its done, or accept that in order to play this wonderful game, to throw all caution out of the window and pray for a black pip.
IMHO I dsilike losing pips when everyone disconnects apart from me. I feel a disconnect in the late match should grant the remaining survivor(s) a black pip.
-
I work on the rule I can blow one skill check, but if I blow a second and I get the "look" from the other survivor I leave the gen.
-
Better still have a player retire option. The player leaves the match, but they are banned from queing until the match finishes. Its as if they are benched within the match and have to wait it out. Maybe this might stop players from quitting due to rage as they wont be able to get a new trial till the one they qued for, and accepted by not leaving the lobby, is completed.
-
Well they talked about "punishments" for disconnecting. At the same time players feel they should be able to leave a match that has tanked, or one in which their challenge attempt is obfuscated.
Instead of imposing a time penalty, consider a loss of 15,000 blood points for the SECOND disconnect within an hour. If the player has no bloodpoints in bank they have to pay off the blood debt.
The other alternative is when a match has a player disconnect, all remaining players including the killer are guaranteed a black pip.
-
I wonder when they rework the rank system they look at achievements as well. Or introduce a double points hard mode where you are not allowed to use any perks except the unique ones that come with the character and no items or add ons
-
I started playing August 5 when I bought the game this year. I have less than 600 hours in game. I tried Killer failed to find anyone (which apparently is the usual beginner experience) and said nope not doing this, then started Survivor with... Laurie Strode... I admit it was a stupid choice... I played Laurie for like four weeks and did not even have my computer settings at low so I missed almost every skill check.
I am a survivor main. I try to team play as best I can when I play solo.
-
I do think in some matches it relies on luck heavily. An example, I spawn in to Coldwind right by a gen. I retreat behind the wall and wait a few moments. Sometimes another survivor will be downed and that lets me figure where the killer is. Approach the gen, start repairs, then suddenly my spinechill wobbles in and out and Wraith is right next me. I haven't missed any skill checks. I wasn't out in the open when the guy was whacked. (LOS), so I can only assume the killer got lucky by starting a patrol in the area I was in. He hears the sound of a gen being worked on, enters stealth and zap.
-
My friend thought this challenge would take her several matches. She SWF'd with me in one match and suicided on the hook after deciding nobody was helping her unhook (clue: she doesn't run Kindred) and the very next match she did all four generators.
I believe the challenge is possible provided you use a helping perk like say Bond along with the required perk. It is also helpful if the killer is just doing a daily and not interested in getting a 4K in the basement.
**
It is a rare thing to find a killer that grasps the concept of letting the survivors actually do some stuff in the match before massacring them to meet some personal goal.
Likewise I have been in matches which have gone south (early disconnect, suicide on hook, weak or new survivor) and I hopped happily on traps say to help them get a daily. Its also nice when the killer doesn't then kill me.
-
I have a simple suggestion. You cannot use perks from other survivors or killers until the survivor or killer you are playing and wish to use other perks on is Adept. For killer I would reduce the requirements to a simple 2K not the 4K currently and some bizarre amount of emblems. Demonstrate a player has mastered the perks the character comes with first.
Sadly if the above idea was implemented it would destroy meta builds. With the result the gamer population might collapse as well.
But the plus side is no more meta builds.
-
I do think tho that placing a rank 14 killer with a rank 4 survivor in the team makes no sense. I saw that today. I also feel that rift challenges are going to get harder and harder to complete the higher rank you are.
It appears the matchmaker as currently implemented is using Region primarily to determine the pool of players it will use. Naturally nobody wants or desires 20 minute que times, so you have to accept whoever the game matches you with.
I do agree tho that matching new players with experienced killers or survivors is a recipe for not much fun.
Myself I will use SWF to keep in touch with the higher ranks game play style, but I have little faith in getting anything other than get a black pip, or a depip.
The explanation usually given by the devs is that lower ranks would experience longer que times if the game tried to match within say 3 ranks, so for new players the "match within 6 ranks" is ignored, same as it is within an SWF group of say a rank 8 and a rank 15.
Presently the emblems system determines the amount of work put in by a player, it does not recognize a match where the player is clearly way out of his depth (rank 17 survivor facing a rank 10 killer) and I feel some consideration to buffing emblem scores should be given if a player is running against a much higher rank.
Lets say that a killer in the example I give is given silver instead of bronze, gold instead of silver, and iridescent instead of gold for work performed when facing a much higher ranked team. This is sort of like a golf handicap I guess, I dont know. Its just an idea.
-
I would like to see an option where a player could select the following:
[X] You will earn no player experience in this trial, you will earn no blood points in this trial, your emblem score will be zero and you will safety pip.
Yay,. now I can do the insane challenge and not depip.
-
@Mr_K said:
The rank 5 is out of range. Doesn't mean they are SWF. Remember the highest rank member is what match making is based on.
I concur. I guess its possible they qued solo based on region and the matchmaker did its best to match them, but it is a fail for everyone else.
-
My solution is simple. Since SWF is so popular it should be easy for four players to SWF together. Then have group ranked and solo ranked ques. If players want to play as a group they do so as a 4 man team and the killers will know this by queing in group ranked. Sadly it will never happen as killers may decide to avoid the group ranked entirely. And I can see why too.
-
They changed the rules last year, rank 16s can lose all their pips and the game will laugh at them and make them remain rank 16 for ever.
I have been rank 15 and depipped to 16 then all the way to 16 and 0/4 pips.
The game is broken so utterly in certain ways I doubt they will ever fix it
Maybe stop depipping at rank 16?
Or better still once you reach rank 15 you cannot depip below that rank.,
-
I play SWF as well, I expect a killer at an appropriate rank and I dont expect other than me to see any brown or gray ranks in the group. MY SWF buddy is rank 8 and I play accordingly based on a rank 10 killer or higher. My point is that a rank 5 should be graced with a rank 8 killer not a rank 13. (That in itself is broken as the killer is facing a player 8 ranks higher than them, and killers play solo)
DEVS PLEASE ENFORCE NO HIGHER/LOWER THAN SIX RANKS.
-
I will admit I preferred it when the ranks were shown in the lobby as a survivor. If I saw a rank 9 and two rank 10s, I would tend to think they were an SWF as the matchmaker shouldnt pull a rank 16 into that lobby. I could then dodge, or take a gamble I would safety pip. But I had the choice.
Now I have to assume the matchmaker pays note to my rank and would expect team mates around my rank same as killer. I posted elsewhere what can happen.
In addition I try to learn in harder matches when I SWF with a buddy who is a rank 8 survivor. I do depip but usually I get a neutral, sometimes even a pip depending on the match as it unfolds.
At my rank I need 6 points to safety pip. At higher ranks like 8 I think its is seven points. At red ranks I would assume it is eight points.
-
Kate.
-
The only two I have prestiged are Kate and Nancy. I tend to use the best survivor for the daily or simply because I just wasted cells on a Christmas sweater and want to get some usage. I try not to have a main as such as I know what happens: the main gets nerfed perks and the player freaks out.
Not having a main means I treat each character the same.
-
I think the answer is fairly obvious: the rift challenges.
I know the past season I didnt rank up at all as survivor, the previous season I did move at least a few ranks.
My theory is that everyone got good due to needing to do the more stupid of the challenges and a disinclination to spend more than a few matches getting 10 safe unhooks.
Maybe once the rift closes things may return to a more normal game environment.
-
I had an idea that stuffing four ranks into rank 17 was a fail. The OP shows their experience has been less than positive. The matchmaker tries to match players of similar ability. It is not designed to match a new survivor with a rank 15 killer (even if for solo play which all killers are, it is within the mythical 6 ranks difference).
Hours of play used to be relevant, but with players accumulating huge amounts of blood easily, then using the blood to buy out webs in the hope of getting better and higher grade perks, it is not unusual to see a rank 17 killer or survivor with all purple perks. Then place that player with similar against a killer with one perk at rank 20. Sure they are all gray ranks but the killer is at a disadvantage.
-
So a new player at rank 20 with one yellow perk for the new character finally survives to the last generator and lo, the Find the Exit appears... are they really going to know to stop at 99% in case whoever the killer is may be running BW?
And I am talking a solo player with no friends in the game yet. As regards opening the gate itself, I open them. I dont care about BW because to play assuming the killer "always" has one nasty perk is crazy.
The number of times I have been at the opening the gate part and been downed at 95% complete... smh
-
I guess I fall into the small category that doesnt fit the mold. My real concern is the reliance on certain perks to "win" a game. I checked today and I have adepted all the survivors I play. I admit I will use spine chill but the rest tends to be stuff that helps the team or occasionally me personally.
Spine Chill; Kindred; Self Care and some boost to repairs. Note I dont include perks that piss killers off, or are used to run really fast. I rarely use flashlights and even then only for a challenge which made me feel ugh so I stopped.
I tend to ask the killer if they completed their daily if they act oddly. If I have a bad match I might at the very worst exit the chat immediately, or just type gg. I try to remember real people play this game and I will never know what their goals are.
-
Riddle me this then: the current season has been the worst one I have had since I started playing. I gather players are meant to improve their game by er actually playing, which is what I do, not be moribund at one rank the entire season.
Yes I admit I was trying to do the rift challenges at one point, and I have the 15 Red emblems one currently, which I am slowly progressing. Its worth 30,000 blood and 3 fragments. There is a good chance I will end up at 70 before I finish the emblems challenge.
You mention the game should focus on the top 25% of players for "balance" rather than mid skill. Thats why at the lower end letting players use perks from other characters before adepting them should be a requirement. The reason it is not is that adepting killers is nigh on impossible due to the stringent requirements that must be met.
I have 500 plus hours in the game and I really do think players that rank up quickly are simply more skilled at learning the game. It makes me wonder if your "top 25%" is really focused on players who are rank 8 or higher?
