  • SWF teams even a two man SWF can have mixed outcomes.

A friend I usually SWF with who is rank 10 or 9 now I forget which and me (my lovely rank 16 and no pips) do SWF as it helps me see how I cope against higher rank killers (yea, sometimes I actually do well).

The other day for whatever reason they simply tried to bodyblock the killer who was carrying me, about 2 meters from the hook, got hit, and downed and hooked and then suicided. That was the only SWF they and I did the whole day, the rest of the time they spent on their killer.

Another friend and I tried SWF on the PTB, similar rank spread as well. On the PTB we faced a well perked Oni (no surprise there) but the match was more fun as no crazy stuff on their part.

So in summary SWF can be a mixed experience. I usually play solo for that reason as I am too altruistic saving my team mate in the SWF at times.

    ~~

So the challenge is buffing solo survivors to the same level advantage that a SWF team has. My suggestion is that the composition of rank of the team is also considered. A SWF team all the same rank with complementary perks is going to be more of a task for a killer than a two man team with a rank 9 and a rank 16. And no, probably I am wrong for this, I do not modify my perks to complement theirs.

  • Why do all low rank killers camp? If you answer that question then camping will still be a feature like tunneling but not require a major game change to handle.

I am guessing the reason is that low rank killers are not having much success with sacrifices. Too often they get a survivor on the hook, leave to patrol or look for survivors and while they are gone the survivor is unhooked and healed. If they camp the hook they have a sacrifice for sure, but at the same time they do little to slow the progression of generator repairs.

So I have seen copious use of hex ruin and other slow downs.

  • I think the issue is that players would still be able to enter with good perks. That's not really hardcore mode.

Hardcore mode would be absolutely no early warning type perks like Spine Chill. In addition hardcore mode would be limited to the three unique perks on each survivor. That way the killer would know looking at the characters what perks they might have.

Same applies for killers, only the three unique perks they start with. So if they are not using Leatherface they dont get to use BBQ and Chilli and so on.

    No items.

    No offerings.

Open to anyone. Not just lower ranks.

That challenge doesn't require you to heal from 0% to 100%. Just did it today, all you have to do is top the heal off using the medkit as long as Botany is equipped. Same concept goes for the Dark Senses challenge. Good luck homie.

I was a little confused about the challenge to be sure. Part of it was that I had four matches in a row where I wasnt able to heal anyone (mainly due to the killer being very quick to kill everyone). So from what you say, it is similar to the Dark Senses challenge, so long as I meet the requirements at the time the other survivor recahes a fully healed health state it should count.

  • I dont play Killer at all. All my blood points are spent on my survivors. My friend who plays both killer and survivor will do the killer dailies then decide if they want to use them to level a new survivor or level up an existing one, but most of the blood, and in fact blood earned on the survivors is spent leveling the killers they have.

I also see the stupid killer only daily rituals are back again which is great if I played killer but I don't.

I average a lot less than 10,000 blood each match, rarely pip up and spend most of my time trying to do just the survivor track on the rift challenges as there is little much else I can do at my skill level.

There is no mystical reason why I experience this and a lot of other players do not. Its because I am not that good at this game. But I choose to continue playing dreadful trials and not disconnecting. Or suiciding.

  • The only reason the 15 is there is if they are SWF or simply in the wrong part of the world and at the wrong time.

  • You may want to grasp that survivors are also trying to do the rift challenges, and some of these have to be done in a single trial. So you may be facing a suvrivor who has trying to do "heal two health states with botany knowledge and a med kit". It doesnt help that the challenge has to be done using a med kit the entire time either. I mean it sounds easy doesnt it? But its not. I have used 8 medkits so far and the best I got was two heals and the second one the med kit ran out of charges so it didnt count. We are not allowed to DC, we are frowned on for suiciding on the hook. But next time look to see if the survivors are doing crazy stuff in a match, then see if you can help .

  • Maybe the killer needed to bio?

  • And if the devs didnt make new content, they wouldnt need the PTB server and then we wouldnt be able to play on the PTB because the Live server is having a bad day, a little depressed and worried about Thanksgiving and the relatives arriving unannounced.. especially Great Aunt Mabel who always insists on making her own real corn bread stuffing ...

  • I am running PTB only for now, until the devs let us know otherwise.

  • My best guess is that the issue is related to crossplay. I think the crossplay feature is giving rise to the rank update error problem, as when the match ends anyone on a console or Windows store game disappears and the database is unable to handle it: the PTB is only for PC players and not for console or Windows store players.

It make me wonder if the live servers are simply turned off and the players on the Live version return to killer hosting if it might help?

It does mean that Windows store will probably have very long ques due to the lack of players on that platform at present.

  • So I play swf with a buddy and we dont use voice comms. We have the steam chat open but I am unable to type in the chat without stopping what I am doing in the game to type. So most of the time we dont actually communicate. And yet I should lose a perk or two because I "could" use voice comms? What if I dont want to?

What if I dont care about the stupid voice comms and just want to play the match with a friend?

There seems to be a presumption that ALL SWF teams are on voice commns with carefuly handpicked and complementary perks.

  • I think they should leave the map offerings as is. If the four survivors each offer a different map and the killer also offers a map how does the game resolve it?

I am waiting for Tome 5 and "Escape from Hawkins National Laboratory using only No Mither in a single trial"

  • Reminds me of the recent event and the blighted generators. The killers knew survivors would get extra blood from repairing blighted generators, then proceeeded to mass use hex ruin and other slow downs so survivors were not able to repair as many blighted generators.

  • Why wouldnt your team mates come to your downed body and heal you?

  • I had Macmillan five times last night, if it wasnt Macmillan I would get Backwater Swamp. A few weeks ago, Azarov was popping up continuously. The maps are random.

You can use offerings to "prefer" a map.

  • The bloodpoints challenge ignores all bonuses or boosts and is figured from the basic blood point total after the match.

It can be completed by either killer or survivor as its available to both I believe.

I also think all basic points earned while the challenge is active regardless if earned by survivor or killer count towards it, you just do not get the bonuses.

  • A match can be good or bad. A match can be so dreadful you have to log off to calm down. A match may be so brilliant you feel the need to tell your friends about it. But it is still just a match.

There is always the next match. With a PVP based game its better to have the mind set of playing for objectives. If there are not any, make your own. Seek to adept each survivor or killer. Repair that generator in the weird house at the end of the street, hook three people in your basement.... thats what I did when I found I was stuck forever at rank 16 for two months I adepted almost all my survivors.

You only need to be level 10 on a survivor to use all three unique perks, then you play till you escape... and you get used to running a build with either meh perks or no spine chill etc that helps to spot the killer.

  • I sometimes mention to my friends I do not want to play the game anymore. But I do not hate the game. I try to stand back and think on why I am not having fun playing it... then I realized that ranking up was not so important I started enjoying it again.

I aspire to get better at the game. No matter how garbage my match is or is going I never disconnect. I don't even get toxic in the end game chat. I simply try to understand the killer... were they frantic to complete a rift challenge? OK I can get that. In fact I am happy I helped.

I aspire to raise my rank over time and many hundreds of hours of gameplay.

I do not spend the entire match wondering how I can get the most blood, but how I can have fun and make the match enjoyable for everyone in it.

If I ever get to playing killer regularly I hope to continue this positive vibe. The game may be about objectives and winning, and raising rank or getting bloodpoints but it is also played by real people who play this game for fun or relaxation.

  • I was not aware that using a fountain while plague sick was a big no. When I do use one I try to head away from anyone else so the alert the killer gets only affects me.

A recent match I start doing a generator, within maybe 10 seconds Huntress tears her way towards me (nope I didnt miss a skill check) and I am downed, hooked and swinging on my hook. I look at the yellow auras, I can see the other three are working generators, I am in first phase. At the start of second phase one of the auras starts heading towards me. He doesnt make it, gets hooked. The other two finally leave off the generators (we are at 3 completed) and rescue the other guy off the hook. Whilst people might say I was just unlucky, or that there was no point trying to save me as I was in second (struggle) phase, it might have been nice had one of the two working the generator actually tried to rescue me. The generators are not going to disappear. All three were healthy.

TL;DR Being first hook is usually a death sentence.

  • Thats a very cruel comment. I also saw a thread about her nose as well. Since I run my game on Low settings I probably don't notice it as much. If at all.

Thats not what i meant! I meant your not giving the survivors much of a chance because your guaranteeing their death after 13 minutes because eg collapse lasts 3 pretty sure.

My bad. I misunderstood. Maybe a certain time limit gets applied to constrain a match to maybe 30 minutes maximum?

yes but itd basically tell survivors "you have 11 minutes before you die get to it".

Oh that's a good idea. Have a countdown similar to the EGC showing that the EGC is on its way.

  • Well the level of survivor is still available. So I suppose one can infer that at level 10 they should have at least three perks slotted, whatever those perks may be, and since the game offers the three unique perks at the start the player has three perks they can use by default regardless of what the bloodweb throw up.

We will never know the killer's level. And by level I mean the level between 1-50.

I played a match this morning on the PTB and noted the loss of ranks. I was rank 16 on the PTB. I got matched with a rank 16 a rank 19 and a rank 20. The killer was rank 20. The killer had full green perks from multiple killers. So to be honest rank is relevant but its what perks they are running that may make the difference.

I would like to see rank for survivor remain available, if queing solo. If I am in a SWF I see the rank anyway. That would let a SWF teanm of two or three see they have a solo queing with them.

definitely to short lol my games take about 15 when im actually trying because of loops and other stuff. (the other thing i could see with the survivor not doing anything for 5 minutes)

Well a longer time perhaps. But I have had rare matches that lasted 25 minutes as survivor. And whilst I suppose they are "fun" they may not be for casual players who play maybe 2-3 hours a night on ALL video games they have not just this one.

  • I dont play killer so I been buying a few tiers when I can to move me along. To me paying a buck or playing 16 games (400 exp each match X 16 is 8000 exp = one tier) is a choice I make. I will note the free track has very little left after Tier 50, whereas the paid track as a lot more items.

  • What if the EGC triggered at 10 minutes and 1 second gameplay automatically? OR if nobody in the survivor team does any objective for five minutes like repairing a generatror, healing a player or getting chased the EGC triggers.

  • So what would happen if they removed Decisive Strike altogether? Or they restricted its use to the one survivor so it couldnt not be learned by all survivors in player's collection. I kind of like the idea there is one unque perk that cannot be learned by every survivor or every killer in a survivor's collection. Consider if BBQ and Chilli was restricted to Leatherface? OK you may think I am stuffed full of wild blueberry muffins for saying this but wouldnt this make more players use more killers rather than building a meta build killer as Oni is likely to be later this year?

  • As a base kit item it would then depend on the killer if they wished to Mori the last survivor or let them escape (dropped at hatch for example). I suppose given the knowledge that they can still get to Mori someone at the end of the match might lead to less camping and tunneling earlier on?

  • I started watching the Ash v Evil Dead series on Netflix after being gifted the Ash dlc by a friend.

It also widened my horizon for game playing.

  • No I was being factual, in the global stats for PC (my chosen platform) currently so few players have done it the global stats show it as 0.0%

  • Well the unhooks do have to be safe ones. Thats there to stop players simply ripping people off the hooks regardless of the Killer camping or not.

An interesting challenge would be "escape as Feng Min using only her three unique perks" as less than 0.0% of the player base has done that achieve.

name doesn't check out (canon revan is light side)

Actually Revan as per SW:TOR is both. Although mostly he comes across as a bit too optimistic. I suppose its too much to expect BHVR to license a killer Sith from the game. I am thinking even if they did, the game would be overrun with SW fans causing chaos.

  • Well I imagine the best way to learn about the proposed changes is to either watch accomplished players stream their PTB matches or play the PTB itself. Some while ago I came to the conclusion that my skill level places me at the average rank I am, and whilst I believe over time I will improve, I find the constant cycle of pipping and depipping a little stressful.

  • I play solo survivor more often than SWF. I sometimes play SWF with a friend and accept I will probably have a dreadful match and depip but if I had made the promise then I will do it.

In fact one reason I give to the person I play most with in SWF is that they ALWAYS pip up when I play, because I am playing against a killer 5-6 ranks higher than me which means I get stomped a lot, but... I take a positive that it teaches me to get better.

I don't know. . . Usually when I read the "not having fun" argument it's people justifying why it's ok to DC and/or exhibit other unsportsmanlike behavior. Hopefully you aren't one of those people. I can sit down for a session and "lose" some of my matches and still have fun. Sometimes you just get eliminated early.

I just don't understand the argument that all survivors must be allowed to be in a match for X amount of time and the devs must insure this happens. Sometimes you just get unlucky. I don't understand people who can't accept that.

I have never disconnected due to being upset. I have disconnected when my game froze or Steam borked. I recall a game yesterday when I lost the sound entirely and had no way to know if I was in the terror radius, or even hear what was going on. I statyed and played it was ... very weird.

I know some of my friends have disconnected because they are unhappy at the way the match is going. I see no reason to disconnect. There is always a chance that victory can be snatched from the jaws of defeat.

  • Peace is a lie, there are only perks

    Through perks I gain meta

    Through meta I gain power

    Through power I gain victory

Through victory my pips are raised

My rank shall set me free.

  • Lets be honest though shall we? People play video games for fun, and to relax and as a way of dividing up their free time instead of watching a movie, reading a book or listening to music as examples.

The reason people complain is primarily they are not having fun. Its no fun being eliminated in the first two minutes of a match by an over eager killer. Its no fun being gen stomped by a SWF premade that has hours of practise on all maps and carry complementary perks....

Imagine if you could only equip one perk until your rank raised up? So at 17-20 you get one perk, at 13-16 you get two, 9-13 three and 5-8 four perks.

It would stop everyone relying on leveling to level 15 having 4 perks and whatever the current meta is.

  • Leaped off the stoop roof into the arms of Freddy.

Ran into a wall while being chased while injured and got downed

And my favorite as it happens quite offten... trying to make a safe unhook head towards the hooked player and as I get there the player is unhooked and bam the killer who was patrolling (not camping) nearby gets to whack me.

  • OK. I did have one thought on this whole matter of hiding ranks from the lobby. If you have a matchmade team that is say 12,12, 13 and 16. The lowest rank wont know they are getting a higher ranked killer. At least presently they can make a choice to skip the lobby if its full of ranks 5 higher.

I also assume the reset will drop a brown crest to 17 and no pips. I think part of the problem is that the matchmaker is using rank as a way to "match" players of similar ability. Its been said ranks are simply reflective of hours played.

I would like to see the game consider achievements won by a player in determining their overall rank. I believe the achievements are a good indication of skill. Just a thought.

  • My understanding is that as follows:

My close friend (the one I SWF the most with) will likely end the current season at rank 8, and will reset based on the new rules to rank 9, so far so good, before they would have dropped to rank 13. OK, in my case my highest rank average has been rank 14 in the past two seasons. I will reset to rank 17. This means on the reset day I might be SWF with a rank 9 which is 8 ranks higher than me. Its unclear if the rank 17 rest rank will have any pips. I am inclined to think not.

So basically my challenge is this: to pip up while playing against rank 11 killers...so chances are I wont be able to SWF with any of my friends anymore due to being too low a rank. And sadly it has to be said the gray ranks are predominantly new players so my chances of a successful team win are somewhat diminished. It was the main reason I SWF'd mostly to ensure better team mates.

Going forward we wont know the ranks of the survivors we are matched with until the end game chat.

This game desperately needs regular unranked PVP where player experience and bloodpoints and rift challenges can be done without greatly upsetting the ranked players whose goal may be different.

I suggest they add ranks 20-25 which will be considered unranked and use a better process than pips for ranking unranked players up to 20

New players start at Rank 25 and play five ranks "unranked". I am not sure how that would best work, maybe remove SWF from those unranked ranks.

  • You can tell why I asked as I have to set aside time to re download the entire game from Steam on my new laptop. I also read some reviews and it suggested the one I now have in my possession has better FPS than a similar one equipped with an NVidia graphics unit. I havent bought a new gaming laptop in 5 years so I am quite excited by the possibilities.

  • So the recommended course of action is to download the live client first, then "patch" it to build 3.4.0. If I wish to play the live client after trying the PTB version, I make the switch and the game will resolve the matter by re downloading the current patch over writing the "newer patch" files?

I am happy to re download 1Gb of data I was reluctant to have to re download the entire game.

  • Star Wars: The Old Republic since 2015.

  • I am one of the two oldest here. I take pride from the fact that at 57 I can still play games. Based on my limited knowledge I would say I am probably around Ash's age, which is why I chose him as my avatar.

  • This is why I like this community, many helpful players sharing knowledge for newer players.

  • Thanks for the info.

  • One challenge took me several days to finish, especially when I had "almost" finished the "complete in a single trial" then the killer dragged defeat from the jaws of victory, threw victory a bone and then promptly hooked me.

I admit I am not a skilled as some players: I dont play Killer for example and that eliminates half the master challenges and lore associated with them. But I thought being able to pay to progress the rift tiers useful. I made a choice between playing 25 games or more and paying 5 bucks to move it on 5 tiers.

Players who play both killer and survivor will inevitably move further along the tiers as they are receiving rewards (which they earned) for completing both types of challenge.
