I was in a match tonight... the killer hooked ONE survivor and two disconnected, the one on the hook and the SWF team member (I assume since it was at the same time). The killer likewise had no choice but to kill the two remaining survivors I guess to hold to a black pip.
Half my team disconnected within 2 minutes of the trial starting. The killer also had a perk where I was not able to see the hooked survivor, which I have never come across before. I might be wrong but I thought when someone gets hooked you can see them get hooked and have an idea which hook they are on?
So a possible solution? At least make it that the remaining participants do not depip as a result of this disconnect. I depipped as well as a result but it seems wrong that a "match canceled as a player disconnected during loading" will always give a black pip but after the match starts, nope.
Another player commented in a pre match chat in the next match that "DCing seems to be a trend now". I suggest that whilst some disconnects are due to computer crashes, real life emergency or even an important phone call that has to be taken, disconnecting because the match wasnt going the way the player thought seems wrong.
-
In another MMO I play, the developers decided to give every subscribing player exclusive companions that were only available for a limited time window. Same thing happened, players got upset...but it did mean newer players were finally able to complete certain missions that had been denied to them as they started playing after the applicable time window.
I do understand the developers perspective to avoid players paying a third party way too much real money for a cosmetic.

Well it strikes me that one possible solution is to keep the ranking system but use it for trials called "regulars", that means no pipping, depipping just safety pips. Blood points would still be awarded dependent on objectives etc completed, but it would allow particpants to work on challenges knowing they are in a regular match and their rank isnt going to be affected. Whilst this may sound like why not use KYF, it is not as players would still need to form in the lobby for the regular trials. The ranked trials would continue alongside but nothing would count towards completing challenges.
-
Apart from game crashes due to computer issue or the connection being severed by the ISP for some unknown reason, if a player is punished for disconnecting what will happen is a player wanting out of the match will find the killer and beg for death.
-
Occasionally Killers have been known to kill three and let the last one go free, there is no rule that they do this, but its appreciated every time I am last survivor.
I have witnessed end game chats where a player uses bad words towards the killer, you know the sort of words I mean. I will simply say gg and exit if I am upset as I know killer s are able to remember names and I would prefer not to have a vendetta directed towards me due to calling the killer a rude word.
-
If a killer plays in a bizarre and possibly unsporting manner but explains in the end game chat that this was to assure the completion of an evil Killer challenge I can accept that it was one match and the killer in question showed remorse and wasnt being a complete spanner about it.
If I am being facecamped I try to recall if I did anything that might have upset the killer. Gneerally thats why I tend not to use flashlights. Even when I get them to work as they should its like waving a red rag at a very angry bull.
-
Hmm that seems deserving of a reduction in the number of completed rift tiers or worse, a complete reset of Tome 1 with all rewards confiscated.
-
The challenges are optional. I dont say there shouldnt be any killer ones as I dont play killer, I get that some players play both or indeed only play killer.
-
Quick question: there is a challenge in Tome 2 which requires a player to get 20 gold emblems. Its doable as my friend assured me she had completed this today. However, its marked as a either can do, that is killer or survivor... except to actually get to it, requires completion of a killer challenge. Are we to expect future tomes will have a roadblock at the beginning something like a master challenge that only a killer can do before anyone can get to survivor ones?
-
Oh then a griefer is not very sporting. Leading the killer to another survivor purposefully seems just wrong. I recall a match today where a survivor was pursued by the killer upstairs to where I was. I noted I couldnt heal them and the only option I had being healthy was to offer myself to the killer as a hit while the other player escaped. I am convinced the survivor had no idea I was actually up there.
-
Adam's uncle is the killer, the survivor is Rin's father. Adam's uncle doesnt really like the dad much as his nephew is now stuck forever being chased by the Spirit.
-
Wait... what about a match where two survivors disconnect within the first minute and the killer feels bad so allows the remaining two to earn some bloodpoints by allowing them to complete objectives while they hurry about the map looking purposeful.
-
I have suggested a simple reward system as an incentive to rank up in Feedback/Suggestions.
-
I have a terrible time pipping up. Last month I went from rank 18 and 3/4 to rank 14 and 1/4. Something more proficient players would look upon and laugh at as that sort of thing shouldnt take a month to them. My best friend in the game was a rank 8 killer/survivor last month and I enjoy playing in a group with them as it lets me see what its like to play at higher ranks than my rank 15 or whatever.
Still I like to have focus on things I can achieve, which is why all my survivors apart from 2 are now Adept. At rank 16 a depip is failing to get at least 6 points in emblems, a safety pip is 6-9 points and a pip 10 or more up to 14 where it moves to 2 pips.
People have said here that it will be the end of the game if nobody could depip except at rank reset. Already new players at rank 20 for killer get matched with green ranks as there is nobody else around on at the time the player is playing who is anywhere near their level.
But I admit I feel I have improved if each month I end up at a higher rank and can consistently keep my rank. But thats just my opinion.

I bought the battle pass as it let me get some of the items that I couldnt get if I didnt buy it. I looked at the cosmetic items and determined that 1000 auric cells seemed fair for what was being offered. I then noted I got 325 cells "given back" as I had completed some of the tiers. I used 300 to buy three tiers figuring I already "spent" the 1000 on the offered cosmetics.
I play with a friend who has no issue blasting her way thru the tomes and maybe a couple of the challenges might give her pause for thought, but since she plays killer as well as survivor the killer challenges are also something she can do.
I will admit due to my lack of progress I was influenced by the ability to buy tiers out for 100 cells. Not everyone is able to play killer unless they dedicate themselves to spending time in ques and learning the killer skills and perks.
On a minor note I would say about 10% of my games are actually fun (by my definition they last a longer time, and I feel I have played better) the other 90% are where I play like a potato and dont have much fun.
One useful tip I will share is something Hemingway once said about writing. "Stop when you are at your best, then dont think about it, the next day start again and carry on" He was saying there is a point to stop each day and its not after playing several matches which suck badly and make you feel like uninstalling....
-
I suppose the one advantage of making a SWF group match to a killer based on the SWF member with highest rank is I have played some challenging matches recently. It would be rare for a rank 15 to go up against a rank 6 killer but its happened, and I was quite impressed I got a black pip instead of instant demise. A close friend is currently rank 8 to my rank 14 and I find those matches can be stressful. But it does force me to learn to play better. That sort of rank difference is very unforgiving to simple mistakes.
-
I had trouble ranking up sad to say so in the end I switched to working on Adept Survivors and gaining player experience. Whilst player experience is a factor of the experience earned in a trial its is more reflective of how many hours played than actual "experience". Since its keyed to time.
I have I think only David and Laurie left to adept. I am not looking forward to David's adept trial at all.
Whenever I see the black offering at the end and it doesnt swivel round I assume evil Mori and instadeath after one hook.
-
Is there one for escaping through the hatch in a single trial? How many players get to escape using the hatch in a single trial as the hatch doesnt appear until you are the last survivor.
-
I have had a rank 20 killer match (me as killer) with a rank 12 team, all of them were rank 12. In the end we agreed to have fun and everyone did so. By that they figured I needed hooks for a challenge and they needed points as well points are fun.
-
I think setting how players rank up based on blood points would be a mistake.
I still think the emblems system has value but the starting values need tweaking. Maybe a rework of the points assigned for different things.
-
PC, Central Time, USA
Survivor (solo) rank 14, about 1-2 minutes
Killer rank 20, gave up *
(*if I have to wait more than five minutes or roughly five times the que time as for survivor its not worth bothering, sadly it does mean I will never play killer much except maybe a rare match)

I just hate the "entity displeased" music that plays after depipping, its so demoralizing in my opinion, sometimes i quit playing for some hours just because of that.
I get ya. I find at times if I experience a particularly bad match I will quit the game and take a break in order to distance myself from the matter. I try to look for positives as well if I can, such as me getting dead allowed three others to escape, or me being dead along with another survivor allows the killer to black pip.
Let me make a controversial suggestion. What if depips were abolished, and players either pipped or they didnt. The result would be I assume a huge number of players reaching the red ranks. At which point wouldnt peer pressure compel some of the more agitated red rank players to chill a bit more?
I also like when killers let the last one escape. It is truly appreciated.
-
This is why a game can be less fun. If, as you say killers in the high purple and red ranks tend to be one of two possibles it does limit the fun. Dropping to lower ranks will get you an increased variety of killer. I prefer a tense match where through my own game play and assisting the team I get pip, what I dislike is being tunneled right from the get go and not being able to do a thing to help resulting in a pathetic amount of blood and a depip.
-
So Wednesday is rank reset day as its 13th of the month. The same day the new tome challenges are revealed for both survivor and killer. Might I suggest survivors talk to each other in the pre game chat if they have challenges that have to be done in a single match?
I am sure there will be posts about the new challenges some of which may be less than complimentary.... would it be allowed for players to explain how they solved a particularly difficult challenge?
-
I think the charms are the right size now. I run my game in a window at 29% res and all graphics turned to low. I play this setting so my game works for me. Charms are nice but I do think unless you are runnign full screen Ultra res the amount of work involved would be better set to fixing bugs.
-
I would like to see more matches pop quicker for lower ranks as right now new players, or players trying out killer get dispirited if they have to wait twenty minutes for a match compared to survivor which tends to pop instantly in comparison.
But as regards your proposal, what if each killer that was considered weaker was given an add on to compensate for their perceive weakness.
-
Or they could have two tiers. One for regular matches where you progress from 20-15 and once reaching 15 you can enter ranked matches. It will avoid ranked matrches being full of new players who have yet to learn the game.
-
I agree from an achievement standpoint that ranking up may mean something. However there is a casual assumption that the higher ranks are players who have played more and therefore should be better at the game. Likewise players who are in the lower ranks may not have played much recently, may have just started playing, or as the reply suggests be depipping to a more comfortable level of gameplay.
In my case I would like to reach higher ranks if only for the achievement. I also feel I would feel better about how I play.
-
I recall one match where everyone on the team did that to me. Like I would be hooked, unhooked, on hook and then off again before struggle then again during the struggle phase. Each time I could see the team mate running over with the killer like right next me staring in disbelief. It is called getting farmed. Its not nice but it happens.
So far as a situation where the person unhooked gets whacked again and this downs them, how about a deep wounds, which would require the survivor to evade and then heal? Alternatively the person doing the unsafe hook immediately gets broken status without the killer having to strike them, making the next strike a downer.
Or better still the game flashes a word "FARMER" and the farming survivor's aura can be seen by the killer at for the next 10 seconds.
OK maybe not a serious option, but the loss of bloodpoints might deter this activity.
-
If I am on the hook and the gates are open and the killer is camping me, I wouldnt expect anyone to save me. Sadly there are some that assume if I am healthy and still running about I will run half way across the map with spine chill lit up like a Christmas tree to save the survivor on the hook. I dont tell anybody how to play their game but they feel the need to tell me how to play mine.
Having said that if my situation is hopeless I will try to maximise the number that can escape. Like one time I was healing a survivor and the killer appears so I present myself as an easy target and hook while the injured player runs to the gate.
-
I have rank 20 killers too, I managed to get a match after five minutes as a pure fluke. It may improve after the 13th with the rank reset pushing more survivors into the 16-20 bracket again, but they never stay long. The one match I played recently, more for fun, was against a team of rank 12 survivors.
-
Could a Killer be controlled by AI smart enough to find survivors and kill them? The killer in question would be a robot with an instant death ability and auras, so no matter where the survivor hides the robot could see them. Like wise survivors would get a buff that lets them see the robots aura. This could be presented via a KYF... called a Deathmatch. It would also be possible for a single survivor to opt to go up against the HK (Hunter Killer droid).
-
Um... I may not be good at DBD but I was thinking survivors tend to find out pretty quickly after the match begins who the killer is. Disconnecting because its spirit seems weird... what if I am playing my rank 20 Spirit for laughs? I would never get a match would I?

That safety pip is not a bad ideea but I believe that if you don't punish the DC'ing hard than you can't stop it, and atm it's a big issue.
Well I was thinking how the game reacts when someone disconnects while the match is loading. Usually the participants are granted a black pip. I was also considering the nightmare of three survivors disconnecting within the first two minutes and the solo survivor and killer both depip.
-
Here is a thought. "No perk", "no item" and "no offering matches", the entire match is fought on skill with no buffs available to either side. That might make an interesting challenge.
-
This is a ranked game, when someone disconnects the game should grant a safety pip to remaining players by default and perhaps the "punishment" might be the disconnecting player loses 2 pips.
-
I think the OP is referring to the "bad"matches:
For survivor: where no matter what build they play as survivor or what team make up they have the killer is determined to exterminate everyone in the match as quickly as possible. It may explain why survivors will DC. They can either continue the match certain they will not make enough points to carry a safety and will therefore lose a pip. So the DC and hope the next match is better. I have seen this often in other PvP games.
For killer: the survivors complete all gens in about four minutes or less, evade capture and even if hooked escape immediately.
The difference is the game here does not allow backfilling, that is if the Killer DCs say a queing Killer is brought in to the match new. The reason this is not done is the match is ranked and a Killer could be brought in literally during the EGC.
Having been in matches as survivor where the killer tunnels one player after the other the amount of "fun" gained from being fodder like that is negligible. Other matches in which I failed to escape have been more fun if the Killer allows the survivors to at leat least get some bloodpoints out of the match and perform some objectives in order not to exit with two bronze and -1 pip.
-
I assume the tomes are progressive. The next Tome is scheduled to unlock on November 13. At that time I will see if I can access any of the challenges as I have reached the final node on Tome 1 following the survivor path.
-
I do know the friend that introduced me to the game is now a rank 8 killer and has tried to explain all the various powers a killer has. I have a fair understanding of useful survivor perks and the advantages of using one survivor as opposed to another. I actually wonder if its simply that I get too tired or distracted after playing a few hours and should stop rather than carry on.
I admit I havent tried the guides yet.
-
With SWF being set to highest rank SWF member I have had the chance to go up against Rank 2 killers, Rank 10 killers. I am currently rank 15.
In my case when I do SWF I very rarely pip up as I am going up against killers 5-10 ranks higher than me depending on who is playing in the SWF.
To me a fun match is one that lasts a bit.
-
Fair point I will give you that.
-
From my own experience when playing solo, I try to follow direction, sometimes I dont understand the gesture, or I hear the Killer's terror radius or my spine chill perk pops and I have to do something. I will do whatever is needed for the maximum number of players to escape.
-
Or imagine the killer facing a team dead set on completing this objective knowing if they so much as strike anyone let alone hook a survivor they will be ripped apart in the end chat and made to feel like a no good person.
-
Every match is a choice. You can do the daily ritual and risk failing or succeeding. You can delete the daily ritual and not care if you ever do the daily.
But the Rift challenges are meant to be harder than the daily rituals in some cases, or require you to break your normal game style... example disturbing 25 crows.
Above all the game should be fun. If you are not having fun try to do something in the game that is.
-
I think you can do either track or both. I main survivor and as killer I have not a hope in hell of completing any of the killer challenges due to being a gray 20 rank. I admit I did buy the premium battle pass but that was because I was struggling on the Rift challenges anyway and felt some extra fun drops might put me in a happier mood.
I have completed the survivor track on Tome 1 and clicked on the final node. I assume that will let me access Tome 2 on 13th. If not, and the Tome requires both tracks to be completed, then I won't be able to do any more of the Tomes.
-
Well how about adding 25% boost across the board to EVERYONE'S points if a player disconnects in the survivor team? If two disconnect it rises to 50% which is then capped.
-
As a gray 20 killer I am not anywhere near good enough to "win" a match or hook anyone. But I did try to make the match fun. Sometimes the relief of a survivor having a match where the Killer isnt trying to exterminate the entire team in under three minutes makes for a more enjoyable game.
-
They are not "completely doable" if you just started playing killer. No dont start saying its easy to play Killer and you will be red ranks in under two days, because not everyone's experience is the same.
-
It seems to me it might behove survivors to at least tell the rest of the team if they are questing. It avoids three players fighting over one objective while the killer looks on in amazement wondering why they are not running away.
-
You can also buy a tier for 100 cells. I admit to buying the battle pass, and using the refunded auric cells to buy out three tiers. I am not proud I did it, but the option is there.
I used a more conservative 400 exp per match, that's 2 matches for one fragment, or 20 for a tier.
So you can do 20 matches or pay a dollar.
