And why not keep it the way its supposed to work? (yet it doesn't because yay) The highest crest (for your suggestion) in SWF is the indicator for the killer game.

Good point, I guess I was thinking the numbered ranks are pretty meaningless, and hiding the pips will avoid pip pressure every match.

  • @Milo said:

SWF teams will not be allowed to have team members more than +/- one crest color.

    No ._.

I was thinking two but killers may disagree. Two crests +\- might suit

  • I liked seeing the rank when I was a solo player as I had an idea of the rank of killer to expect. Now I just assume the matchmaker will acknowledge my low rank and provide a low killer.

  • I would have like to have seen challenges using unique perks only like Adept, but lower the need to 4K and appease the entity for killer because I heard that adepting a killer is a pain.

Im pretty sure the devs thought pattern was to have players playing BOTH sides rather than being stubborn and ignoring half the challenges. Personally, I play killer like 95% of the time, but had some fun doing the survivor challenges.

Thats a noble idea, but a gray rank 20 killer with one perk has a steep enough learning curve as and when they ever get a match at that rank, My friend who plays this game just finished her last master challenge, and rift tier 70, and hit rank 8 on survivor (from 13 after reset last month) and rank 6 on her killer (from rank 16 after reset last month), so yea sure if a player is good enough to play both factions well the tome challenges are all doable.

Myself I been stuck at rank 16 all this season.

  • I also noticed the Last Minute Hero challenge blocks the track for survivor only players, it should be moved to a spur that would let you go back and do it once you had done everything else. As it is it is right there blocking any other challenges. Did the devs consider players that dont play survivor or dont play killer when setting up the tracks to complete the tome? Two either side challenges in Tome 2 cannot be done unless you also play killer

  • Its a video game, I am not sure why players have to be so abusive.

  • I am rank 16 I played some swf with a rank 6 this morning and pipped up even, then I play in the lowbies and lost all my pips I had gained

Whether it is because at lowbie level they are all potatoes or simply players who dont care (two of them suicided on the first hook for example) but it made my game suffer.

In reply to the OP I have days where no matter what I do I make mistakes. I feel like I shouldnt be playing thats how bad it is.

  • I chose Legion. It wouldnt matter who it was and I wouldnt cry, I would just stare them down, then ask them if Millennial music really is that good?

  • I wasnt sure what these mystical rare cosmetics were, so when they were not available I didnt miss anything as I didnt know what was supposed to have been given away in the first place.

I started playing in August this year have about 500 hours. I get that events that occurred prior to me playing had exclusive cosmetics but I am not worried. I have my favorite survivors in cosmetics I earned (rift challenge) or bought (shards or cells) and I am very happy with the way they look.

  • I used to play SWF more. As a two man group with occasional comment in Steam chat as she and I didnt use voice comm. Then she got good and ranked up to 8 or 7 or something and I am still at R16. So yea I can still SWF and I find it a challenge to keep up at times, but I try to look at it as a learning experience. I then try to apply what I have learned from playing with more adept players into my solo matches as survivor.

My only regret is I place value on rank and on pipping up as a gauge to how well I am learning. I wish I didnt. Maybe at the end I am thinking if I could reach say rank 10 consistently I could play with her more often again.

  • I was in a lobby this morning and simply observed the killer was missing. I was called a ######### for placing a five minute limit on the killer appearing. Ironically the player who made the remark was the only one to die.

At the end of the match I expressed concern the killer had simply stopped moving, thinking AFK or had a bug. Killer admitted he needed to hook obsession twice and once the rift challenge was complete he let everyone go. Its nice when killers make a decision to go easy on the team they face.

So far as matches are concernd i get solo matches pop within 60 seconds mostly. But I tend to take frequent breaks , like between matches and not reque right away.

  • I would unlock all my survivors to level 10 and then adept them all again one by one.

  • Question: why is the new map so dark and hard to make out detail?

  • I run Detectives Hunch, Resilience, Spine Chill and Kindred all at purple on one character. I am hoping by running Kindred it helps the rest of the team I am in.

I miss skill checks at times, more so on Hex Run, but after two misses I tend to run off and find my own gen to mess with.

You may wonder why I use Resilience and not DS? I dont have DS as a teachable perk yet.

I could use the Locker Heal from Nancy but I felt that would be selfish in place of Kindred.

  • One match I played I noted the killer would hook then camp, or pretend to walk away then rush back. This happened for each of the first two survivors. The third survivor was on the hook and again killer was camping. I decided to risk an unhook and rely on the killer whacking me and not the player I unhooked. He did. The unhooked player escaped through the hatch. It cost me a pip but it was worth it, I dislike camping killers.

  • On the occasion I play SWF with a friend who has maybe a month game play on me, I have told them after rank reset (the new one) they will be too high for us to ever play again. They also play killer and only play survivor for rift challenges, the first match of the day and the odd time they are favored with a survivor ritual daily.

This is what will happen on 13th.... I will reset to 17 and they will reset to 9. That will be the end of it, as I doubt any peer players would want a gray ranker in their group.

I read a lot about it being easy for potatoes to rank up into the high ranks. Maybe they play a different game to me. I dont think I am a potato, but then I dont use nifty perks, I dont loop, I dont use flashlights and I want the killer to do well as my team. Yea sounds fantastic doesnt it?

I analysed the way I play and I figured that my preferred game style of stealth and sneak unhooks when the killer is not right there you know like sitting in a camp chair with a cup of hot cocoa waiting for me....

Try a few matches with unique perks to the character you use as survivor.

LOL to be honest tho maybe I am just too stubborn to be any good.

  • So the choices are simple:

    1. Do not play the game till they fix the game on Thursday with a rush patch for the basement glitch.
    2. Play killer and avoid the basement.
    3. Play killer and make sure every survivor is hooked in the basement
    4. Play survivor and hope not to get hooked in the basement.
    5. Play survivor and not care that the game effectively is over when they are hooked in the basement and de pip.
  • I paid 10 for the pass, I paid another 10 to allow for the fact I dont play killer so the fragments I could get playing killer are not available. I used all the auric cells that are "given back" to buy out more tiers. I am at tier 62 I think.

My only issue is that some survivor master challenges are blocked by must do killer ones.

  • I find the discussion about the various perks and abilities each character has interesting.

If neither the survivor side nor the killer side had access to any perks or add ons or offerings or items to start a match, would the match be based on pure skill alone?

And to make it baseline, no SWF groups in this hard mode variety of trial.

  • The matches where I play with a buddy who is 7 ranks higher than me in SWF. I know they usually score the most points and get a pip or even two and I am lucky to survive maybe half the match, with a neutral and maybe a consolation prize of a few k in blood. But I play because the buddy got me into the game, and it was originally a way for they and I to play a game together.

So what sucks? Them getting three times the bloodpoints I did, and a pip to my depip.

Yea, I am aware I shoudn't SWF with that huge rank difference but its the only way I can play with them, other than KYF. Which frankly is not the same.

Other things I dislike: killers in gray ranks with all purple perks facing new players with zip perks. And to be fair, if I played killer, a low ranked survivor say at 18 with all purple perks from four different survivors.

  • Is there a Kate Denson one?

  • I find it amusing all these survivor perks being listed and made as if this is a required "bag" of perks to play DBD as a survivor. What if you don't have these perks yet? What if you are a new player and have one perk only?

Then place three new players at rank 20 with one perk each against a rank 17 killer with four purple perks which are combined from various killers and then say the game is survivor sided...

Its not sided to either side... it depends on skill and what perks are in use.

That was why I suggested elsewhere a hard mode where you can only use the three unique perks on a character, be they killer or survivor.

  • I was able to buy all the DLCs before ST when they had a nice sale in the store. I did so as I am a survivor main and I wanted access to all the survivor characters. The fact I could have bought the survivor characters using auric cells was nice but ultimately would have cost me more.

Is there an official announcement of the exact cost on Steam of the new chapter DLC and when it will be officially available?

  • Just a comment: when the new DLC arrives, the only people playing Oni will be those who buy the killer or buy the DLC, or maybe get an offering to use Oni without any perks. I don't know if the entire player base will rush out and buy the DLC, if they did it would be a huge win for the people who created the new DLC.

That said, its a good chance some, not all, survivors, perhaps those that had experience with Oni as a survivor facing off, might decide to leave the game early. Not because the killer is intrinsically broken or "OP" but they simply dont want to face him. Similar I guess to Spirit dcs.

At the same time we have a ranking system that is used to match players of similar rank and one would assume similar experience... except the balance cannot allow for low rank killers with all purple perks from multiple killers in their collection facing new players at rank 20 or 19 with one or two yellow perks.

You cannot fix the game by saying to the veteran killer , "sorry purple perks are banned in low ranks", but would it not give killers an incentive to raise their rank to 16? and not stay at 17-20 knowing they can only use unique perks.

At the same time, to level the playing field, new players can only only use unique perks until they adept the survivor. I know adepting for killers is utterly broken but I feel it would help new survivors grasp the fundamentals of each perk and gain an achievement as well.

The proposed rank reset may go some way to altering the mix of players, but be aware from 13th this month a rank 17 survivor or killer may have been a rank 13 survivor or killer before with all purple perks from different killers/survivors which they earned through game play.

  • As a compromise, consider a DLC of well designed and tasteful swimwear apparel for each character. An example: the Clown in an Edwardian bathing suit. For the ladies maybe a one piece or a 1950s style two piece? If it was done properly it could kickstart a Summer 2020 campaign or event, especially if the items were available in a Rift situation. Some characters would not get this being that they are licensed.

  • You ever think that the challenges were designed that way, and got progressively harder to encourage players to consider buying out tiers?

  • Well I am now on Tome 3, with 25 unhooks. After that I am out as the next master challenge of unhooking two survivors in the EGC is impossible for a solo. Sure its possible in a freak stroke of luck, but its not a challenge you can prpeare for like say the Dark Sense one was.

I see your point about regular matches though so I wont mention the idea anymore.

  • But it would be less stressful.

  • My idea was the rift challenges could only be completed in the regular matches. This would encourage players to play regulars. Heck it would encourage players to play regulars so they dont have to worry about pips, but could run fun builds or try them out in a realistic environment.

It would leave ranked for being what it is without crazy challenges.

  • Then they need regular (unranked) matches where pips are not considered. Players enter at the rank they are and dont pip up or down, they just play the match against a que.

  • Maybe we should have more amusing challenges...

"In a single trial tap a killer on the shoulder then run off without being hit."

"Using the 'Banana Skin' item cause a killer to slip and fall five times in a single trial."

  • I would prefer a simple system with 30 or 40 ranks and you never depip. What is my incentive to rise in rank if I can lose 7 pips in 7 successive matches not all due to my own incompetence. Its why in another PVP game I play I have to reach a rank of 25 (out of 100) before I may even be allowed to play ranked matches.

If this game had regular matches where the focus was on learnign the skills and expertise needed to play well in ranked matches it might be better. Also, challenges could be done in regulars.

How would that work? You would enter at the rank you are but the emblem system no matter how many points you earned, or didnt, would award a black pip. Basically kill your friends without the purples and the ability to que

  • I still think my favorite fictional challenge would be "die on first hook in a single trial, without being unhooked, or escaping the hook." This would require a survivor to be the very first player on the hook in a match, and if unhooked, the challenge would fail.

OK I am not being serious, but if that was a master challenge, what do you think would happen if the remaining three survivors realized that they cannot be first hook as someone already is.

  • Its a pity they didnt have challenges that would increase skill or expertise...

"Escape unbroken as (insert name of a popular survivor character here), using only their three unique perks, in a single trial"

"Complete with four iridiscent emblems in a single trial."

"Perform a 4K, using only the three unique perks as a killer."

"Survive a match, using no perks."

These would require some skill I think. And would allow the game to be played normally as well.

  • In a single trial farm four players off the hook, safe rescues not required

In a single trial kill all survivors by any means necessary in under 4 minutes.

  • I think they mean that they stand a fair chance of completing all the challenges before the Rift closes.

  • So imagine being in a team where everyone is on the save two survivors during end game collapse.

The challenges that require a certain number of qualifying actions to complete over a series of matches are grindy agreed but at least are doable. The single trial ones however tend to be more on luck. Good luck with trying to complete the save two during EGC at purple and red ranks

  • Yes that challenge is the next available Survivor challenge after unhook 25 survivors safely. I dont play killer so this would roadblock my progression till completed. Considering the circumstances, and assuming all survivors make it to the EGC (that is all generators repaired and Find Exit appears and the timer starts) it would require the killer to have two hooked survivors available for one of the other two to rescue off the hook. Note the impression it gace me it had to be two different survivors... but I may be wrong. Conversely can a survivor be already on the hook when the timer fires up to be one of the two that can be saved?

  • @Galklife said:

@Revansith if they are at R17 that means they dont play killer as much (either surv mains that just spent bp on killers or they dont play dbd enough to rank up past what rank reset did) there is also other reason maybe they are just bad and refuse to learn how to play a game

but believe it or not if rank reset wasnt a thing, R20-17 players almost wouldnt be able to find a game (because even now they are paired with R15 players)

I get the idea behind rank reset, as over time there would be less and less viable killers at the gray ranks.

I've heard nothing on someone being banned for farming, and it's not listed in the game rules sub-forum as well.

Since it's not listed, and I hear nothing about it, i'm going to say no it's not bannable. The devs however have stated that they dislike the act of farming and are highly against it.

However, despite farming not being listed as a bannable offence, it can be interpreted as "intentional gameplay abuse." Here's a quote from the game rules sub-forum.

    GRIEFING: INTENTIONAL GAMEPLAY ABUSE

    • Working with the opposite team to gain an advantage or grief teammates
    • Targeting specific users repeatedly in order to ruin their game experience
    • Holding the game hostage

Being banned for this can nab you the follow temp bans.

    24H -> 48H -> 1W -> PERMANENT

It depends on this ban being your first, how severe the rule breaking is, etc. But, since a lot of people farm... it's hard to say if you'll be banned for it. Everyone has farmed at least once in-game... so to say it's bannable is quite difficult.

    GRIEFING: INTENTIONAL GAMEPLAY ABUSE

Targeting specific users repeatedly in order to ruin their game experience

That is from the rules quoted.

So tell me why tunnelling IS NOT bannable?

  • Killer offered Hawkins offering, Survivors offered a disconnected while loading offering.

Comment afterwards was "you make an offering like that and don't expect one of us to disconnect?"

I muttered about Gideon being worse than Hawkins, but I remember what happened with the DLC Stranger Things and we had Hawkins all the time for like a week solid.

I assume that's the plan come December 3 when Oni Wan Kenobi and his cute Padawan appear? That we will get Yamoaka Estate version 2 a lot, like all the time? For a week?

  • Maybe I missed something but if the killer is heading towards you and you crouch and the killer wanders right by you, are you supposed to pop up like a gremlin high on sugar and say "hit me?"

  • Well thats an acceptable way to remove the highly agitated survivor I suppose.

  • The whole concept of allowing perks to be used once teachable on another Killer is a great idea, it gives players incentive to level up their Killers and acquire teachables. The downside is as each new Killer emerges from the Fog and becomes more played there is a greater chance of truly evil builds (and I dont mean meta), like builds which will simply upset survivors. Like wise there are and will continue to be demonic survivor builds.

Am I right to be a little worried about Legion getting their hands on Nemesis?

  • I play PTB and Live versions on a laptop.

  • Well surely you seen survivors doing really crazy stuff in matches and acting completely against normal rules? Ever think why? That they may need that final generator or such and then dont care if you kill them?

  • Also the day they come out you will know by the insanely stupid matches you will play or be involved in.

  • @MegaWaffle said:

Could be cool if they had all the perks available and each survivor took turns picking 1 perk at a time until everything was selected. (still only 4 perks per person but you choose 1 perk then player 2 chooses then player 3 etc until everyone has 4)

No duplicate perks in the match and you will need to sort of work out who should take what.

I do think forcing an adept build might go some way to making the matches more challenging. Killers can eventually get some pretty wicked builds with the perks from different killers. This would make a player use just what the individual killer has available.
