dont you pip for doing a single gen and getting into a chase or atleast safety?
Maybe if you're low enough in rank, but once you get into the single digits you need to be doing a whole lot more to pip: pulling survivors off hooks, healing teammates, cleansing totems, escaping chases (or at least involved in long chases), doing generators, and last but not least, escaping alive.

holding m1 is doing something?
Completing gens is part of a survivor's objective, killing survivors is part of a Killer's objective. Camping a single survivor on the hook is akin to doing a single generator with a survivor. If you're not get anything done, then you'll get a appropriate ranking that reflects that.

Legion, but I am a legion main. If you play right, you will be able to get all 32k points much faster and more reliably than doc.
What would you consider the proper way to "play right" with Legion?
-
You're punished for essentially doing nothing. You're not much of a threat if all you do is give everyone else ample time to get the gens done and leave.

Yea, as a survivor on xbox Im constantly being pitted against red ranks that consistently slaughter... It needs to figure out my placement soon or I'm putting it down for a few months again. I don't expect to survive every match, or even 1 out of every 2... But if I could at least stand a chance it would be nice...
I betting the experience will be the same on the PS4. From the way I understand it, the game will take a few weeks to catalogue the games and adjust everyone's matches accordingly. So as much as a kick in the nuts it may be, keep at it. You're doing yourself a favor now that the MMR is up and running on Xbox. I wish I could do the same, but until it's up and running on PS4 it's pointless for me to grin and bear it.

@Blueberry said:
The funny thing is, you'll have no idea if it's fixed or not because the MMR will be hidden.
Hopefully we do see a change. It's funny, I loaded up the game tonight and I was close to starting up another killer match, but my last two matches were back to back red rank swf teams. I have no problem playing killer, but I'm a casual DBD player at best, and until the game ranks matches accordingly, I may have to hold out until the new MMR is up and running because I'm just too damn nervous to try.

MMR is making matchmaking worse.
Anything has to be better than it is right now. The developers stated that matchmaking would be all over the place when the MMR went live. For the most part everyone is being given a blank slate, and the new MMR will rank everyone accordingly from that.

Honestly BBQ is all you really need, but the two best killers for bloodpoints are Doctor and Legion. Doctor excells at getting deviousness and Legion at getting Chaser and Brutality. Just hope you can 3 hook people else you don't get full sacrifice.
Yeah I second this. I would go with Legion however because they excel in two categories with their power, whereas the doctor excels in just deviousness.

i would say once the mmr comes in for people to keep in mind that depending if the devs are setting everyone at 0 mmr that its going to take a while for the mmr to sort out where people are in the ratings so the games are going to be a big mixture of people with different skill levels but once it has sorted people out in their ratings that it would be alot of fairer games
Which does lead me to ask @Almo and @Peanits when the mmr comes in will it be set at zero mmr for everyone or is there something in place to put people in a rating already based off player level?
I remember the developers stating that when it went live for Xbox, they said don't be surprised if you see ratings all over the place because it's ranking everyone's games accordingly. So most likely when it goes live for everything else, it will probably be as you suggested, a blank slate for everyone at the start and then rank everyone accordingly.
-
I go back and forth on spine chill because it also has other advantages like being able to work on gens, opening chests, or even opening the exit gate faster if the killer happens to be within that 36 meter radius.
But like you I don't want to have to rely on it with every build. If you want to run without it then I would practice on getting good at looping, because by the time you hear the heartbeat the Killer is already breathing down your neck, more so if they're running monitor and abuse.

Though I absolutely agree with you on what you said, don't leave out the toxicity of killers as well. I have several friends who play and are of varying ranks. I've watched their gameplay on streams and vids and the amount of hardcore off-the-hook tunneling is quite frankly...off-the-hook. In ranks 6-20 you might get 1 of 4 matches that is not a hardcore, ignore all other players, tunnel. Mileage may vary, but I find it hard to ignore their frustrations when I'm watching a rank 16 get tunneled out of a game in less than 2 minutes by a fully decked out P3 Billy who is rank 15, but handles Billy like a red rank. I've even seen many post game chats where the killer flat out admits he loves annoying players, regardless if they are lower rank than he should be.
The game feeds, allows, and even outright encourages the toxic behavior in game with how the perks, abilities, and items are set up. The only place they don't let you be toxic is when you might call someone a name on these forums. Here, they want to pretend to have a level of civility, which is a joke, but in game, be as much of a jerk as you want to be.
They hurt their own game with this crap. That is why I think an overhaul of Custom Game would do wonders for the player base. It would be a rare situation where it would improve the game immensely while also being a great opportunity for a cash grab. lol
EDIT: @Deadeye This game should have peak numbers well near 200k. It does not because retention is not good. It is not good due to the toxicity. The developers of this game have a low bar when it comes to their goals. I think many other teams would have this game roaring with players.
You're certainly not wrong about there not being sweaty Killers, because there certainly are! Personally I think they should incorporate bots into custom matches so that way people don't have to search for friends in order to get a non-toxic game going, plus it would give new players a chance to practice without having to worry about competing.
I am glad though that the developers fully admitted that ranks don't matter (which begs the question, "why then bother with rank resets?"). The new MMR obviously won't get rid of toxicity, but hopefully it can keep the casual DBD community playing with each other, and keep the toxic hardcore red rank community where they belong.

@Pryzm said:
The problem goes beyond that. Many who join this game do so thinking this is what it is branded as, somewhat of a party game with jump scares and fun. It has a casual feel when you are looking at the description. I hear this from a lot of new players. When you get into the game, it is very toxic, and has hardcore players that want to win at all costs. They have zero interest in the party/fun atmosphere. The game mechanics feed into the toxicity. I mean look at the perks and powers. They feed the idea of camping, tunneling, looping, hook swarming (looking at you Sabo), etc. It nourishes every bad element in a person so the gameplay becomes far from fun, and deep into the toxic arena.
If you are a horror fan and see DbD advertised, you see a game that looks like it would be a blast! With killers popping out of nowhere and you running scared while trying to work on gens in a chaotic effort to escape. You log in and you face a 3k hour Billy who tunnels your arse out of the game in less then 2 minutes. WTH was that?! There was nothing scary about that. It was just frustrating. I did not even get to play. Let me try that one more time. Here comes that Bubba that player that purposely tries to face low rank players so he can face camp them. Wait, he put me on the hook but he is standing here and nobody can get me. That was boring! Ok, ok, I'll try killer. First up - a group of newbie solo players. I got a 3k, that was fun! Next match, hit squad SWF that chased the killer with flashlights and sabo boxes all match. That was the most frustrating thing that player ever experienced in a game! What was that? I thought the killer was supposed to be scary, I ran scared from them the whole match! (All references to "I" are the hypothetical new player.)
Yeah, this game has/had promise out the wazoo. The player base should be hundreds of thousands, but the management and enforcement in the game is an absolute joke. They've let the game become this weird red-headed stepchild of a horror game filled with frustrated players that can feel there is something better here, but just can't seem to get to it.
BHVR just needs to step up their game and do this right. Revamp if need be, but get some developers that understand cause and effect. Ones that can look at a new perk/power and anticipate how it will synergize with others in the game, or how it might be exploited to cause high levels of frustration (looking at MoM's original release there).
Get this game where it needs to be.
Getting matched up with or against players far more experienced or inexperienced than yourself is dead by daylight's biggest issue. No one wants to get wrecked over and over again, especially when you're playing killer. Killers are what you should fear in this game, but sweaty swf are the real threat. I've had so many bad experiences with toxic swf that I'm purposefully waiting until the new matchmaking is implemented on PS4 before I play any more killer. Which is sad given that there so few killer mains on PS4 already.
Dbd is a lot of fun to play, but the toxicity is what prevents this game from expanding it's player base. The only reason why certain swf groups can bully a killer is because the game gives them the tools to do so, otherwise survivors would stay as far from the killer as possible and not take the chance to body block, etc.

The devs have said hundreds of times at this point that camping/tunneling is legitamate, why wouldnt they allow their bots to do this?
You're correct that they said that camping and tunneling is acceptable when playing online. I'm just thinking of it from a designer point of view. If you were to create a killer bot for DBD, would you try to embed a code that guarantees the killer will always be mixing things up, or would you be comfortable with a bot that face camps every hook he/she makes, and/or tunneling every rescue? I would like to think that the devs would try to aim for the former.

A single player option where you could farm BP as killer or survivor would be a mistake. Having bots as a fill in for dropped players is fine though. Friday 13th's single player turned into an exp farming mode, I wouldn't exactly say the mode worked.
Story mode with one off BP rewards would be different and interesting, but the devs should avoid anything that would allow players to farm BP from bots continuously because if that existed it would be very popular and would mean less games in the matchmaking pool.
I agree. An offline single-player mode would be a great way to practice, but if you want to continue earning bloodpoints, then you'll have to play online. I think the most sensible way to do this is to have the option to turn on bots in a custom match.

I agree but I hope they are much smarter and less buggy then F13. That game lost me when the fact they could no longer add new stuff, I figured okay then maybe they will take the time and polish what they have. Nope they instead pretty much said okay we are done and left the bugs, so the AI will randomly run into doors and just keep running and then sometimes they will even just walk to you. I actually wanted to like F13 but the creators themselves gave up on the game when they could have polished that and fixed the AI.
I really hope the AI does come and plays at the proper level giving. I mean if the killer is a BOT they could maybe place the level at the highest or second highest survivor rank and the other way around. If a survivor D/C's the AI will play at the killers rank. Just an idea for thought.
From what I understand they recently did a pretty big update that not only ironed out a lot of bugs, but that also incorporated single player challenges. That being said, I understand wanting to pursue other projects considering that they were basically hit with a cease-and-desist order on incorporating anything more into the Friday the 13th game.

Hopefully, and it could get us a better practice mode/tutorial so high ranks aren't flooded with boosted players.
Yeah sadly the tutorial is a joke. With so many killers available in the game now, with varying degrees of powers, we really need a practice mode that does more than simply show us how to attack and hook survivors. 😕
-
I've been playing with him quite a lot lately because I have over 50 cakes that I need to use! Sadly his perks don't synergize very well with others, so the best way to get any use out of him are perks tied to other killers. I usually use STBFL, M&A, PGTW, and either BBQ/Thrilling tremors.
The guy has no map pressure and his entire loop potential is pretty weak. The trail of torment that he can put on the ground only affects a survivor the first time they step on it, meaning that survivors can't repeatedly succumb to the slowdown like survivors can with Freddy's dream snares.
-
@NotOprah said:
You already know the bots are going to suck. So it's not an improvement.
Bots have actually been incredibly effective in the mobile game. So much so that it's hard to tell that you're playing against an actual bot until the game is over. But as they say, the proof is in the pudding.

Resident Doctor Main here,
Honestly I think it's a crap shoot. I fear for a killer bot specifically, since it'll either always know where the survivors are, or only patrol gens/camp/tunnel. I personally feel that the main thing about DbD that's enticing (at least to me) is the human aspect. Sincerely,
Resident Doctor Main
I don't have any postscript or joke to put here this time. sorry.
It'll certainly be interesting to see how a killer bot performs. They would clearly have to have something embedded in the code that would prevent things like camping and tunneling.
But even if it was a single player mode that only allowed you to play as the killer, I would be perfectly fine with that! It would give you an opportunity to test out a Killer's abilities without having to worry about competing against other people. But to keep incentivizing people to play online, it could be designed so that the only way you get bloodpoints is by playing in an online match.

It's already been pointed out, but Spirit is consistently more effective of a killer than Legion. Pretty much everyone considers her a "top tier" pick, while Legion dwells in some bizarre limbo between mid-tier and low-tier (depending on who you ask).
However, Legion is pretty great at racking up that sweet sweet BP. Spirit has a narrow window for actually getting bonus points from her power (the "Grudge" bonus), where Legion basically maxes brutality after a handful of chases.
If their personal perks are at all a factor, Legion also gives you Discordance (which IMO is the best of the 6 available between them). Though Spirit does offer both Haunted Grounds and Spirit Fury, which also have their uses.
Either way, you can't go that wrong if you're just looking for something new. Both Spirit and Legion are more similar than I'm sure many people thing (both gain better mobility through their power, lose an element of standard tracking while using it, and have to manage cooldowns for power availability).
Maybe watch some gameplay of them both online to see if one of them more strikes your fancy?
Yeah I heard that Legion is great for racking up bloodpoints of which I'm still in high demand for, but Spirit looks like she is a great killer when used right. And since I have a great pair of headphones I could see Spirit being worthwhile. That being said, since I'm still in high demand for blood points, I may have to go with Legion first.

Thank you all! I sincerely appreciate it!

You like to play stealthily? Here's what I'd suggest.
Kindred-
Kindred is the best solo perk, without a doubt. It gives you information when someone else is hooked, and gives your team information when you're on the hook. It gives you the best change of being unhooked on time and having your team be coordinated.
Decisive Strike-
DS is here only to prevent being tunneled/farmed. In general it's impossible to prevent being farmed but DS gives you the best possible chance of escaping that situation.
Fixated-
Fixated is a godly perk that's incredibly underrated, especially when combined with the final perk. The 20% increased walking speed should never be overlooked and seeing scratch marks is pretty neat too.
Sprint Burst-
Sprint Burst, when combined with Fixated, is amazing. It's the best exhaustion perk imo, and also helps you escape the situations where you're being tunneled/farmed (especially when combined with DS).
Not bad. Thank you. I hate running decisive strike, thought I admit it's a nice thing to have when you get tunneled!

Yeah but these are legit yellow and green ranks, you can tell by how they play. Im on xbox too and can confirm what op is saying
Seeing as of how it just went live on Xbox, I'd give it a week or two and see how things look then. It no doubt needs to compare how you play to how others on Xbox play before things get ironed out.
-
They already said that ranks don't mean anything, and it's not what matches you up with other players anymore.
-
Honestly anything would better then what we have right now. Matchmaking is so nuts right now that you have new killers going up against red rank survivors and vice versa, so I'm willing to give anything a chance.
-
The toxicity is why DBD desperately needs a single player mode. If bots can be incorporated into the game to take over for a player that disconnected, then there's no reason why those bots couldn't be used to create a single player mode.
-
There's really no way to avoid making DBD more toxic than it already is, as it's the most toxic PvP game that I've ever seen. And PvP games are naturally competitive, so I don't know what to tell you other than keep your hopes high that one day they'll incorporate a single player mode.

I've been using BBQ/PGTW/STBFL/Brutal Strength.
Because of the mechanics behind his ability, it makes a lot of perks feel less valuable. BBQ and PGTW both feel iffy to use. STBFL is for sure good on him. Brutal Strength is in my opinion a meta killer perk. Especially for M1 killers. Having fewer pallets faster leads to shorter chases and strong late games. I'm a big fan of that.
That's not a bad build. STBFL could work well, sadly I don't have it unlocked with him yet.

Good topic, I recently got all perks with 70+ cakes, but like you, can’t really find a build I like.
I've been going with Whispers, BBQ, discordance, and pop. It does well enough, but I just feel like there could be more. Monitor and abuse could be a nice one though!
-
As others have said, some people just want to play the game as intended. I however, love it when survivors and Killers farm together, namely when there's cakes or bloody party streamers on the line. Nothing worse than having a match last less than five minutes because a killer brought in a Mori, and everyone else brought in cakes. 😕
Bloodpoints are the lifeblood of DBD, and if I can walk away with upwards to a hundred thousand or more bloodpoints, then I say go for it!
-
I agree with what others have said, either disable chat if you're on PC or set your messages to friends only on console.
DBD unfortunately breeds toxicity, which is why I wish this game had a single player mode. If it could be done for Friday the 13th, then it can work for DBD.

For BBQ its designed to make it so survivors can hide behind generators.
I believe the devs themselves said that in the past as an intended way of countering BBQ's reveal.

Then maybe include an option to change the color of the auras? I'm sure it would be a welcome change for those that have color blindness.

I don't know what the perk should be, but I agree that there should be something then just simply a bloodpoint bonus for WGLF. BBQ has an actual function outside of additional blood points, so the one set up for survivors should be just as functional.

I can’t disagree with that.
I’ve found that DBD is the most alienating when it comes to new players. It requires a special kind of tenacity to push through the match making mess and the not particularly great tutorial.
God that tutorial is a joke. That might have worked for year 1, but in year 4 there should be a practice mode that allows everyone to test out all of the mechanics and killers that have now been incorporated into the game.

They can only be completed that quickly if the killer does absolutely nothing, or is a total potato.
True. With matchmaking being in the state that it is, experienced players are facing off against potatoes far more often than they should. It's hard to build a new player base and keep it when new players are having to compete against far more experienced players.

The new Ruin is honestly just as good as the old one, potentially even better in some cases. But it still has the problem of lasting ~15-45 seconds in some matches. Assuming it stays up long enough, it can buy you 2-3 generators worth of extra time. It also requires you to actively be forcing people off gens instead of just equipping a perk for passive pressure.
I don't think you need any slowdown perks at all, though you will need to play solid and be willing to camp/tunnel/slug when needed.
I've found corrupts effects to range from mediocre to minimal. Against a good squad they will just run to the gens immediately and 3-4 people will still be on gens in the first 30 seconds of the game. A bad squad will mess around for a minute or so before starting to work. But it's not the bad squads you are running these perks for. I only use it on killers with really bad early games.
Gens can go so fast at rank 1 that I have been finding pop to be unreliable as well. Sometimes it comes in clutch and you pop the same gen like 3 times to win the game, other times you can't even make it to a gen to use it (unless you are playing like Freddy or something).
About the only slowdown perk I typically run anymore is sloppy butcher. It always works on most killers, and doesn't require you to go out of your way to kick gens (which can waste just as much time as you are gaining through the regression). Just attempting to murder the survivors instead of controlling gens has been way more effective for me.
You make good points, but your point about how pop isn't even that reliable against high red ranks just solidifies why the original hex ruin was so often used. And you're right, hex totems are high-risk high-reward, but it was the only guaranteed way to slow down the start of a match.

Yes and no. The more they limit the randomisation, the more predictable totem spawns will be.
And honestly, the whole “survivor spawns next to hex” happens much more rarely than it’s ever happened in the past.
Survivors spawning next to hexes might be rarer than it's ever been, but it still happens. If one of your four perks is going to be a hex, then imo it should never spawn next to a generator or a survivor.
-
@[Deleted User] said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/173428/offering-that-hides-hex-totems-well
That’s the risk with running Hexes.
You need to plan around what your strategy will be once the hex is gone, and expect that every match.
Doesn’t get cleansed? Awesome.
But you should always have a plan B
I agree completely that you should have a back-up plan if the hex should be cleansed. That being said, your hex shouldn't spawn right next to a survivor or a generator. In a game like this that's just poor design.
-
The developers noticed that hex ruin was being used in almost every single killer build, and so they nerfed it. But it was the only reliable perk guaranteed to slow down gen rushers at the start of a match. Without it, all generators can be completed in less than 4 minutes (even less than that if someone has a new part) provided you have a team that works well together.
I'm not going to say that there aren't other reliable perks to slow the game down, because there are: corrupt intervention, PGTW, etc, but imo none were as effective as the original hex ruin.
-
Yeah hex totems are definitely high-risk high-reward. Every time I've tried to run devour hope I've never been able to get it pass three stacks. On one occasion it was gone within 10 seconds from the match starting because it spawned right by a generator that a survivor just happened to spawn next to.
At the very least if you are going to incorporate a hex totem into your build, the developers should design the game so that the hex doesn't spawn right next to a survivor or a generator.
