Just play it out. Believe it or not. Playing against swf's will actually make you better at the game because you have to try that much harder to win making your victory that much sweeter. Not all games will be a breeze in the park and I think some people have yet to accept that.
No game should ever be a "breeze in the park", but matches shouldn't make you sweat for a win either. Good teamwork will always offer up a decent challenge for any Killer, but SWF will always have the advantage. Not only can they communicate with each other about where the Killer is and what they're doing, but they can proceed to do that even after death. And if they're all equipped with roughly the same strong perks like BT, DS, Adrenaline, OoO, etc, and play very toxic, then the killer will be lucky to walk away with 20k bp, let alone pip. With matchmaking being as borked as it is too, encountering SWF red rank teams is more likely than ever, and if your Killer is green ranked or above, then you don't have a prayer.

The survivor bias of balanced.
I guess. 😕 Using his logic if this whole thing was flipped and I was the rank 17 survivor, everything would still be perfectly "balanced".

His score and kill results are basically a perfect average of all other players. On a post complaining about balance, he literally has the most balanced screenshot he could post.
Clearly you and I have different ideas of what we consider "balanced".
-
This game really needs a practice/single player mode. It can be really hard getting to learn a killer you've never played with before when being expected to compete against other players.
-
@Nickeh said:
You got a 2k and about 20k points, and decided you needed to write a forum post about how terrible that is?
The wait times, I'm right there with you... but the rest is ridiculous.
Did you even read my post? I never complained that I couldn't get a 4K, I simply mentioned how mismatched the MMR is.
-
More often than not I usually find that the hatch spawns on the outskirts of the maps, and sometimes near the exit itself. Not saying it's always guaranteed, but I usually find it close to an exit.
-
Rumor has it that bots are going to be implemented into the main game like they are in the mobile game, so that a bot takes over if someone disconnects. If this does end up happening then I see no reason why there couldn't be a single player mode. It happened with Friday the 13th, and the developers of that game recently Incorporated single player "story" challenges.
But I think that DBD could benefit from more game modes because the whole "repair the generator and escape" mechanic has definitely grown thin, especially for those that have been playing for the past 4 years.
-
Clown is probably one of the hardest killers that attacks from a distance since his bottles are thrown in an arc instead of straight ahead like huntress or deathslinger.
Most Killers will take some getting used to, but those that attack from a distance are especially hard given that there's no reticule to give you an indication of depth perception. It's just going to take time and a lot of it. And with matchmaking the way it is, it may take longer than you're comfortable with, because there's nothing worse than trying to learn the ins-and-outs of a new killer when you're going up against sweaty swf.
-
With the right perks, Legion can slow the game down tremendously. One of the best perks to use with Legion is thanatophobia. For every person that's injured it slows down the speed of survivors doing pretty much everything, which puts a big focus on players mending and healing themselves so that way they can repair generators at a normal speed. And for those that don't they well double up on a single generator which will cause discordance to go off, which is one of the best information perks in the game.
-
I'm on PS4 as well and I can sympathize with what you're going through. I just recently became a rank 12 killer, and ever since that happened every group that I've been matched with against have all been red and purple rank survivors. It's not fun. Supposedly there's a new MMR coming, but I'll believe it when I see it.

I’m not saying I enjoy going against people at a lower rank than me. But I see it in every multiplayer game I play. I already listed a lot above and all of them function the same. Lobbies are mixed. But people act like DBD is the only game that does this and it really isn’t. Every single multiplayer I play / have played have done this. And I’ve played a lot. I just expect it.
But again like somebody else already stated, DBD is a 4 v 1 game, whereas most every other title you mentioned is basically deathmatch or team deathmatch (not saying that that's an excuse not for it to be balanced because it should be). And while it's true that in Friday the 13th it's Jason versus a handful of survivors, Jason is far more powerful than any killer in DBD. The amount of perks and items that survivors have access to in DBD can literally wreck a killer, especially if they're new to the game.

But, that’s literally every single multiplayer game. It’s like on The Last of Us, when I’m against a lobby of new players I will absolutely destroy them. To the point they won’t even get a single down or kill. That won’t be fun for them, but it’s how you learn how to be a good player. Everybody starts somewhere. I’ve just never played a game where I’ve been in a lobby with people all at the same rank. I’m almost certain that most people complaining don’t play other online games as this is normal. The Last of Us, Friday the 13th, GTA5, COD etc. It’s always a rainbow of ranks.
For argument's sake let's say that that's how every multiplayer game works (it doesn't), do you honestly think that matching new players with veterans is the right way to go about setting up a match? Is getting wrecked and snowballed over and over the proper way to introduce new players?
If multiplayer only games want to continue building their player bases, than they need to have a fair and balanced experience available for all players, regardless of skill level. Because simply saying "git gud" doesn't help anybody.
-
Last night I played a match with Bubba and the survivors were a mixture of red, green, and white(2) against my rank 12 killer. And I experience just the opposite when I'm playing survivor - my rank 4 against a new killer or matched with new teammates.
At this point I'm tired of being told that a new MMR is coming. I'll believe it when I see it. Either way, for me I think it's time to take a nice long break.
-
Personally I think he could be a lot of fun, but I hate having to compete when testing out a killer that I'm not familiar with, which is why I wish dead by daylight had a practice/single player mode.

@LordRegal said:
Lack of killers in your region in your rank is what causes queues like that. If there aren’t enough killers close to your survivor rank, you take forever to find a game. Same if killer queues are long but survivors are fast: just means there are too many killers.
Playing killer is a worse experience than playing survivor. The amount of toxicity that a killer can encounter would make anyone switch to survivor permanently.
Personally the current matchmaking system is what made me switch. I'm a rank 13 killer that constantly get matched against purple and red rank survivors. It's made my experience a bit of a pain to say the least.

By playing this way, he creates more survivors who'll play like those he's trying to punish.. who will in turn play more scummy to punish killers like him. How did you think the toxicity in DbD got so bad? Everyone's trying to one-up each-other.
And you're not wrong. Toxicity creates toxicity. Maybe the new MMR will help stem the tide, maybe not. Survivors bully Killers because of the SWF mechanic, and more often than not they're successful at it. Until something is done to alter the outcome of such behavior, the never ending cycle of toxicity continue.

Hopefully not, but at least with the new changes he won't be able to rev his chainsaw like that without it overheating making a rescue with borrowed time a lot more likely.

A friend of mine uses DBD as a way to let off steam. He uses every dirty trick in the book: moris, tunneling, camping, etc. He doesn't care. During the event he would have matches where all four survivors would bring in a cake, and he would bring in an ebony mori. He had cakes to use too, and he wants bloodpoints just as much as the rest of us, but he doesn't care.
He plays the way he does because he's tired of the toxicity in swf matches. He's tired of people saying mean spirited things, teabagging, etc. He's tired of the toxicity, and as lousy of an experience that he creates for these survivors, I can't necessarily blame him. The broken matchmaking constantly pits him against people far more experienced than him, and these survivors can see that, but they're still jerks nonetheless so he plays dirty right back.
Hopefully the new MMR will help with this. Granted people can be jerks no matter what skill level they are, but some red rank survivors tend to value being a red rank more than actually having fun, and will do anything they can to be sure that they don't de-pip.
-
@Bovinity said:
Yeah, as others have said, you're pretty much just seeing the effects of all the extra information SWF's have at their disposal.
You can see it in the almost instantaneous reactions to your chases. Start chasing someone and boom, Discordance instantly lights up a gen. Break off the chase and it instantly goes away.
It's a massive advantage that you really have no counter to. All you can do is hope that they're really, really bad and even the advantages don't make up for it.
^This. SWF is great when you're playing survivor, but as the killer it's an absolute pain. The biggest downside about SWF for the Killer is knowing that those who have died can still feed information back to their teammates from the camera feeds of other players.
For example, let's say that there's a three SWF team, and the fourth person is a random player. Let's say that one member of the SWF team dies. Well despite being dead, they can still talk to their teammates and flip back and forth through various camera feeds. While doing so they notice that the random player found the hatch, and one of their SWF teammates happens to have a key. That dead team member can now communicate back to the rest of his/her teammates the location of the hatch, all because they saw it through another player's camera feed.
As others have stated, Killers have no counter to something like this, which makes the information obtained through SWF incredibly over powered.
-
Sadly survivor. The matchmaking for Killer is so broken that as a level 9 Killer I'm either being matched with people far more experienced than me, or people that just started playing. At least with survivor I run the chance of similar experienced gamers watching my back (which even then isn't always the case😕).

You can spray on gens as well, to work as a type of radar. If they're getting infected without you being there, you know which gens they're on.
Don't gun for corruption early on. Not only do you want them to waste time later by having to cross the map to cleanse, you want enough ammo if they manage to pop all gens, because they WILL aim to cleanse as soon as possible. It's her biggest weakness, in my opinion.
What perks would you recommend?
-
Lazy? Not a chance. Do you have any idea how rare it is for someone to pull off a full five stacks of Devour Hope? Devour Hope needs to be up and running almost the entire game for such a thing to happen, and for a hex totem to go unnoticed and uncleansed for that amount of time is incredibly rare.
The last two times I tried to use it, it made me stop using it all together. On one occasion my totem out in the middle of the map for everyone to see, and the other time it spawned right next to a group of survivors. I know this only because it broke within like 20 seconds of the match starting.
Simply put, Devour Hope is a pain in the ass!

Granted I'm new to the plague, but I'm no noob by any means, and I could have sworn there were times that I hit a survivor with her spit but it didn't register. Regardless I need to practice with her more, I just hate having to compete in order to do it.

When you play survivor you have three other people watching your back. But with killer it's all up to you, and you only. As others have stated, the margin for error with killer is low, and it doesn't help that the matchmaking for this game is completely broken. I've been playing this game for about 3 months now, and I still get incredibly nervous hopping into a match as a killer. I'm a level 13 killer but I'm constantly getting matched against purple and red rank survivors. I don't mind "losing", but I don't like being snowballed either.

She is so fun when you learn good tactics with her. My personal favorite is to vomit on somebody, maybe even two people, but don't follow them beyond that. They're basically a ticking time bomb and either:
a) give you a free injure, and eventually infect others, repeating the process
b) give you a free fountain
You hardly have to chase beyond that first infection.
I'll keep that in mind. Thanks! What I find most frustrating is how there's no reticule for the killers that are all about distance. And trying to pinpoint depth perception without one is really hard to do! Mad props to those that main huntress, deathslinger, clown, etc.

I play on default settings. So often survivors will take advantage of the first person perspective by doing 360s or running back and forth, and the last thing I need to worry about is fighting my own camera while I try to pinpoint their location.

bbq can be countered by lockers and genauras, as well as being inside the radius. What counter do you propose for WGLF, since you want it on paar with bbq? also, should it work on unhooks only then? Because bbq surly doesnt work on hits.
Correct. I think it should only work on hooks. Obviously if you don't see the killers aura then that means they're in close proximity. I just think there should be one added benefit to wglf instead of just pure blood points.

IS is better. Helps the team counter Noed and you heal fast and counter Nurses at the same time.
It only helps noed if you're constantly on the hunt for totems. If everyone is on the hunt for totems then you're lucky to get one use out of inner strength. And in that case you might as well just bring in a medkit and save the perk slot for something else.
-
@[Deleted User] said:
I prefer not healing with a perk, personally. I'd rather find a teammate or use a medkit than either of these. If I'm going to run Self Care I'm going to be bringing Botany with it, and even then I rarely run it. Inner Strength is pretty inconsistent as it's dependent on the map, teammates, and the killer's perk loadout. It doesn't save that much time either because you need to find the totem, cleanse the totem, find a locker, enter the locker, and leave the locker in addition to the 8 seconds to heal. It can also lead to dumb plays when people try to cleanse a totem out in the open while injured in order to get their perk to work.
Especially with the nerf to toolboxes I find that just bringing a medkit is really useful.
I can see why you would do that. I would just hate to have to constantly deplete my supply of med kits, or hope and pray that I find one in a chest.
-
@Yamaoka said:
The difference is Inner Strength gamers can ignore Sloppy Butcher, Thanatophobia, Nurse's Calling and even deny NOED so even if it ultimately requires more time it's just more useful and a much safer way to heal.
Play against a Ghostface with Sloppy Butcher, Thanatophobia and Nurse's Calling on an in-door map (to name a very specific example) and you will feel a relief when you run Inner Strength instead of Self Care.
That's an excellent point. It's just problematic considering the amount of time it takes to get each inner strength heal up and running.
-

You should be doing totems anyway.
True, but if all survivors are on the hunt for totems, then you're lucky to get one use out of inner strength, whereas with self-care you can use it as many times as you want. Not dismissing the value that is there with inner strength because it is indeed a great perk, but I just seem to find more value with self-care.

Yeah. The RNG of totems are a no-go for them for me, except Devour Hope with some Insidious killers or without better option - given that DH decreases the BP gained finishing the match earlier.
Yeah hex totems are far too easily spotted which is why I usually don't run them. Hexes like devour hope can be a lot of fun, but I personally don't prefer to camp my totems as that's just not any fun.

I found that BBQ, POP, surveillance/discordance, and Sloppy go pretty well. Makes it harder to heal, and they run around injured a lot more. W certain add-ons, you can make it literally a NIGHTMARE. And I'm a pallets guy. Just find it hilarious
That's a good build! Sometimes I'll run thrilling tremors. If you don't mind the 60-second cool down, it will tell you exactly what generators survivors are at!

The problem is killers gain more BP on average due to add-ons for killers being available ONLY in the bloodweb. As a killer you have to spend more BP on average to keep your add-on stock supplied.
Survivors can get free items from chests or other survivors during a match. They can also get add-ons using a single perk. They even have a perk that allows them to get high rarity stuff. For this reason you can essentially get anything you want for free.
While I agree that the grind in DBD is bad (getting a little better with challenges from rift giving BP) taking survivor BP gain up to the equivalent of killer would feel bad as a killer player. Again they gain more on average because they have to spend more on average.
I disagree about killer bloodpoints being add-on dependent. I rarely bring in add-ons during my killer matches because I don't want to have to constantly rely on them to get the job done. So long as I can hook survivors and get into good chases, then I easily walk away with close to 30,000 bloodpoints, double that if I have BBQ.
-
I too would like to see changes made to WGLF. In its current state it's used to farm bloodpoints and nothing else, whereas BBQ has the added advantage of highlighting survivor locations. So my question is, why can't the same work for WGLF? If the Killer is outside of a certain radius, then why can't we see the killer's aura when pulling a survivor off of the hook? If nothing lights up - just like with BBQ - then we know they're close by.
-

Actually, Freddy is way strong with great map pressure, chase finishing and anti-looping. Use BBQ to teleport after hook, PGTW to kick the gen you just teleported, go after the survivors you saw there.
Use Nurses Calling to get anyone healing. Once you are a teleporter, its easier to get them healing from a unexpected position.
As fourth perk you can use something to help in chase (as Spirit Fury) or to get first hit (as Torment Trail).
Yeah the nice thing about Freddy is that the fourth perk can be pretty much whatever you want! Since Freddy is an m1 killer, I prefer to use STBFL. But you could just as easily use a hex too if you prefer, but I haven't had much success with hex totems since they're so quick to be destroyed.
-
Last night I played a match against a very toxic huntress. She brought in an Iridescent Axe Heads which down you in one hit. Two survivors disconnected immediately. She hooked and killed the third, and with me just left standing, I tried to make it to the hatch, but she downed me. She then proceeded to pick me up, broght me to the hatch, dropped me by the hatch, and then immediately closed it. She then let me crawl my way to the exit, she opened the door, only to pick me up and hook me. 😡
I swear the toxicity that resides with this game as unlike any other game I've ever played before.

All im saying is if there are people constantly complaining about it you would think they would do something like a hotfix and bring back the old matchmaking untill MMR. Because God knows when they will drop it. And i will tell you if this matchmaking situation doesnt change soon im moving on until it does because i have 0 fun these days and thats hard to do for me. Ive been playing DBD through alot of the bull ######### and NEVER have i felt this way. It annoying man it really is.
I've just about hit my threshold for what I can take as well. I love DBD because when it clicks it can be a lot of fun! But when it misses? Holy cow does it miss! This was a match that I had just a few days ago. Needless to say I'm a little reluctant to play killer these days.

Honestly I literally just ran a match with fixated, Urban evasion, Sprint burst, and spine chill, and it went pretty damn well! Two died and two escaped, and I was one of the ones that escaped! Being able to move fast helped to keep me hidden and managed to get a lot of rescues!
I may toy around with inner strength or we're going to live forever as a way to earn more bloodpoints or to make healing easier, but otherwise it was a successful build my first time trying it!

Sprint Burst>Urban Evasion>Fixated
Fixated only works when you aren't injured which keeps it from being a decent perk imo. Urban Evasion can be useful against certain killers like Spirit, Hag, and Nurse but it's kinda of a meme perk because 80% of the time ppl are too immerse and aren't productive and just use it to crouch walk across the map when they don't need to. Sprint Burst is kind of an underrated exhaustion perk imo, when used properly it can buy you a lot more time during a chase vs other exhaustion perks like Dead Hard.
I can certainly understand that. However fixated does had the added advantage of being able to mislead killers since you can see your own scratch marks. It can be a nice thing to do.

Badly. Lol. But then I wasn't particularly trying to make it work really. Sprint Burst was fun to make the killer miss their opening hits. I also had fun trying to make my scratch marks as confusing as possible with fixated. If I remember right I died every game. But it was fun for something different to try.
Uh oh. 😄

Out of these 3 I would pick Sprint Burst. Its a personal favorite. Great to get that head start in chases.
Urban Evasion can counter Hags traps, PH's trail and alerting crows. So if you encounter those killers allot I would suggest UE. However I personally do like to run Fixated and Sprint Burst together since they synergize very well. Any exhaustion perk can be great with fixated for that matter.
That's a good point! Having UE as a way to cross quickly over hag traps and pyramid's trails is something I didn't really think about. I might just consider running all three along with spine chill and see how it goes!

Since I got sprint burst, I abandoned Spine Chill/Premonition. It doesn't matter that much since if the killer gets the drop on me, I can still zoom away fast enough to avoid the hit and am likely to make it to a loop. Spine Chill can still be useful in conjunction with Resilience for the vault speeds though.
Spine chill is so good for stealth Killers though! LOL I can't begin to tell you how many times it's saved my ass from being grabbed off a generator from Ghostface!

I could easily see running all three along with spine chill or kindred, as that has the potential to be a great stealth build!

@Marcavecunc said:
Depends on the situation, really. Lots of people use both urban evasion and sprint burst. Depends on what the rest of your build is. Honestly, I prefer not get spotted in the first place if I can help it.. but if I had to pick a mobility perk, I'd go for Lithe, because then I can use the regular sprint and get a speed boost by vaulting over stuff if I'm in a chase. (when I run Lithe, I usually pair it with Quick & Quiet + Dance With Me, to make it quiet and scratchless if I use it in a chase.. or just quiet if I want to get somewhere fast without the killer knowing where I am)
Lithe and dance with me is an excellent combo! The only downside is that you have to be on the lookout for something to vault over, and if you're are in the midst of a chase, that's certainly easier said than done!
-
@Snowbawlzzz said:
I run fixated along with sprint burst so I don't have to waste it. It also has the secondary use of being able to set up a clear scratch mark trail that you can double back on and mislead the killer.
That makes sense. For me though I would like to also have a good healing perk which inner strength provides, but I would also like to have one information perk, and I always flip flop between spine chill and kindred. It's tough to choose!
