I think there should always be an obsession in the game simply because everybody wins. Teams should not have to be punished when there is no obsession because once most killers see that there isn't one tunneling off the hooks seems to become more of a stratagy, Killers will get more points as well as survivors

    Thoughts welcome

That's a good point, when there was no obsession and I only realized it when I thought to look when I got hooked without bringing ds I basically consigned myself to my fate. I don't blame them for doing it. Chances are they misperceived something I did, I actually did something to annoy them which is very likely, or they are simply just playing to win. But a persistent obsession mechanic makes sense for the game anyways in my opinion. Probably not for every killer if you al ore nut, but in a game where somebody hunts and tries to killy ou I can accept that being a steady thing based on what goes in the match like how some perks move the obsessiona round. A killer bringing an obsession perk already gets one, so it might look odd if they don't use those kind of perks, but shouldn't the killers in the game be imagined to wonder which tricksy survivor is hiding a shank in the boot after so many hooks in the realms or whatever lol.

    Which facts?

You are acting as if there is an objective assessment criterion on who is the best and who is the worst serial killer but what would this criterion be?

If you are talking about the kill numbers there would have been other adjectives (maybe most murderous or most sucessful) to describe that without sounding like you are glorifying someone who is responsible for the suffering of many people.

And about the whole facts don't care about your feelings thing: Yes, sometimes there are potentially harmful facts that need to be said, but there is always a way to say them more nicely. Some people just don't want to do that and use "I'm just being honest or I'm just stating facts" as an excuse to be mean.

the man was a skilled manipulator, and brilliant in the schemes including fraud for his times. He was brilliant in designing his den, and more brilliant with how very few could have guessed his intent with the den's construction since he kept changing workers and only himself knew of his grand design while he also cheated them out of pay cleverly while letting them go. Only he truly understood the design and full purpose of his den. He was able to survive many tenant's disappearances, and skillfully gaslight people so they didn't even bother looking into them. I believe if he were alive today, he would have become as knowledgeable in modern forensic and psychological studies and investigative procedures and could possibly evade detection longer than most could these days. I also imagine if he studied others' mistakes that he would become a true master of his craft not in spite of but rather with the benefit of modern knowledge freely available.

There are plenty of things to think about these days, far too many to begin to go through here. But I believe he would have been one of the people able to cope with modern evidence collection and law since he was well versed in his own time and could get away with fraud while relocating easily and comfortably. Most people these days who would have went down that path in life (mainly the past ten to 15 years, and even some who were previously uncaptured but fell prey to dna testing being cheaper and fairly common and public now like the Green River Killer), are caught the first or second time they do something unless it is truly random and they weren't careless. And something like their phone doesn't betray them or their debit at a shop doesn't place them close enough at the right times in an area or catch them in a lie etc. They tend to be careless and take too much for granted. Like I've said, way too many small things people tend to overlook any one of which could do you in, even with something you assumed was random for you. But I believe he could beat much of it far longer than most modern killers, especially the ones driven more by passion or trauma. Someone more calculated but with a great understanding of how others' think and feel as well as the limits and loopholes of the law stands the best chance these days I believe.

There are lots of little details these days, but I believe he would have a good shot over plenty others in our modern times and that's impressive. That does not condone anything he's done, it just means it's impressive just as it would be impressive for a guy to lift and heave a small refrigerator even if he heaved it at somebody's face. Being impressed by such a feat of strength does not condone chucking it at a face, that is simply admiring the strength and control over their own body required to accomplish the feat. Like I admire Mudgett's creativity, care and ability to so easily play people like a fiddle. Even when he did things on impulse, he was able to clean up afterwards and get away with them. I would be more worried about your politicians and the monopolies they're married with and strengthened heavily last year than a serial killer over a century old, long dead and gone, or someone's opinion of their prowess. Remember that it was you that led us on this tangent, you could have read the original post and moved on as I would have done and am doing after this post.

Using the adjective "best" on a real life serial murderer is a bit weird imo.

The feelings on the matter don't change the facts involved.

  • H. H. Holmes. It would feel like opening a loot box. I would be wondering if we would have some interesting conversations, maybe head to his place for some serial killing fun, or if I would become the next victim.

Edit: I just realized I compared interacting with one of the best and most manipulative serial killers America has ever had to opening a lootbox. Seems fair.

I am pretty sure that they will stick to the Object-Rework. Most of the Survivor players are not using the Perk, so they wont be affected anyway. And from those who use it, a good portion knows how busted it is.

I think there is only a really small amount of players who will actually be offended that Object is getting a Nerf. And an even smaller portion of players who actually think the Perk is fine.

hopefully. when I played the game for the first time in nearly 4 years again last year, somebody showed me object in swf and we were usually a 3 man that sometimes used the solo as bait. we won almost every single game and I had mostly played killer in 2016 so wasn't even that good a survivor especially after 4 years. iirc, he was also experimenting with off the record too at the time. I don't know what it all looked like from our tank's perspective, but even he got out too sometimes. It was pretty funny but at the same time extremely unfair to both the killer and the solo in the matches.

  • @Aven_Fallen said:

Whats the problem that they run good Perks? Why did you not show your Perk Build as well? Probably because its pretty similar as well?

There is nothing wrong with running good Perks on both sides. Object is the only dumb Perk I see in your picture and this will, hopefully, getting nerfed.

I'm confident it won't, that they'll make it something that sounds good on paper as part of their hustle but ultimately it will not have much of a beneficial impact for the killer in gameplay. They'd lose too much swf costume parties if they actually made the perk bearable for killers. Remember the goat see guy has said before that somebody is always supposed to feel frustrated after a match. they would rather it be 1 killer than 4 costume buying swf.

Even rito pandered to premades and their enthusiasm to buy skins when they let 4 and 5 man premade s steamroll the ranked/duo mode and called it 'dynamic queue'. that was the lasts eason i ever played of league. I heard it took them a year to realize it was a bad decision, but, at least unlike behavior they have the sense to listen when enough people hate a decision and they don't make many so bad it's on that level. By the time it was undone I had so much to catch up on and mechanically I was clumsy again, so i never bothered practicing to get back into it. But eventually forgave them for it though since they realized the error of their ways and weren't arrogant about it, it was just about money, no "I know better than you" mindset like behavior has along with the greed. That season saved me from my former addiction to that game lol.

I just played a match against a pig and I noticed one survivor was about to head pop and just before she did she dc. End of match I see the pig was using an add on that doesn't show box locations idk I just found it funny and well it was new to me, never saw that add on before.

Also the other three survivors were Jane and two had pretty risqué names so coming into the match I was amused.

If they spent most of the match time running around looking for boxes they weren't gonna lose many bp, and if it was the first dc in a 24 hour period what's an extra 5 minutes on a 15 to 20 minute queue... so yeah denying somebody that wasted their time and annoyed them so much the kill credit is something I would have done in the same situation. And then I would have flipped on control ultimate or nioh 2 remaster if I was playing dbd on ps5 at the time or curse of the dead gods if I was playing it on steam at the time. No sweat off my back.

Ok, you played killer, so that's good, you did your part. The problem is that we need more people like you.

Or maybe the matchmaking could treat people who play both roles with higher priority as a reward.

you make it sound like you're talking about how community service and donating your valuable time at the dead by daylight soup kitchen could make dbd great again. I just had to lul. If something isn't fun, it becomes work, so if they're not gonna be paying me to do it I won't do it unless they offer something else to incentivize me that appeals to me and feels worth the exchange. When queue length is too long I play something else entirely, if they want faster queues they can play another game or work at the dbd soup kitchen themselves but I am not obliged.

    Hello, everyone abroad! I'm Japanese.

I have a question for everyone on the English forum about the DbD JP championships coming up next month.

It's been said on both the English and Japanese forums that DbD's game balance is not good.

It has always been said that what destroys the game the most is that the SWF (voice chat party) information sharing is extremely unbalanced.

The rules stated in the DbD JP championship this time were an admission by the management that the game is unbalanced (especially in SWF). As a premise, please keep in mind that the four Survivors participating in this tournament are SWFs that use voicechat.

Duplicate Survivor characters are not allowed.

    No duplicate survivor perks.

No keys allowed (out of the box keys can be used)

    No add-ons to Survivor items.

Prohibit the use of ultra rare add-ons for killers.

No more than one Very Rare add-on may be used.

Prohibit the use of offerings from both camps.

Survivors may ban one killer in each of the three rounds (three killers may be banned in the final round).

I have read these restrictions and feel that Survivor has the advantage. So much so that SWF (voicechat party) is toxic for information sharing.

I also believe that whether the map is Lumpkin or Midwich will make a huge difference in the war.

Lastly, I also believe that the management has acknowledged that they can finally have some equality by imposing these restrictions even if it is against SWFs. Do you think these rules should apply to the actual DbD?

Sorry for the long text, I wrote it while translating at DeepL.

If you can Japanese, please check the DbD Japanese Twitter.

banning the killers, the three in the final round part, basically hands the tourny to them. There would be no point in participation besides to prove that to a large audience. The reaction should be along the lines: "Geez if even this guy has so much trouble, I suck, there's no way this is gonna be fun for me at all."

  • If swf is shown to the killer, especially if they could chat, every lobby would look like this lol:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6EsNyIRG-g

but that would show just how little most want to put up with them

  • @SaintDorks said:

In theory the game is balance in truth..

Well, let me explain a made by design imbalanced game called Friday the 13th and how It is for the most part Jason sided to a point where people where to use the in-game chat with limited range (unless you got the walkie-talkie) which added to the depth of the game and made It actually fun to hear people screaming trying to work together vs Jason...Then compare that to when people took over friday the 13th the game and basically just wanted to kill jason for sweat so they all go into a group chat..don't interact with Jason, zerg rush his mom's head and try to summon Tommy Jarvis so they can auto Kill Jason and win. Everyone basically just tries to Kill Jason now so the multiple vs 1 has turned the monster into the prey because people found a way to cheese the rules. And Since Jason has to Kill to win cause of the time limit in the Campers favor they are now basically chasing him with a sweater and a shotgun as Jason is now gotta either Killer Tommy before they get the sweater wearer over there Or kill sweater wearer...Which will be impossible because they are gonna have a army of goons body gaurding them.

DBD is balanced til you add in the mics then basically most the perks are no longer needed by survivors since they basically always know where the killer is at...On top of that SWF more or less have control of which map your heading and If they want to will do everything in their power to send you where they want..This is not including the fact they have basically the same/offshoot offerings as the Killer..But can spam them in mass..So imaging multiple hook removals going off at once.

The truth is survivors in DBD have too much control..They control the flow of the chase and where it goes, they control the game speed, they even control the escape..It is so ######### bad in game collapse was made basically as the Entity saying "You win, now get the ######### out or I will kill you"...How ######### bad is the balance when the Killer needs to basically open the door to tell you to ######### off?

And this is because there is no counter vs Comms...And the Devs fear giving the Killer anyway to counter SWF would be overkill/imbalanced.

Unless, you can basically ######### with 3rd party software in the game by having a Killer who can mute people's mics or do sneaky things to mess with their heads...You are gonna have a SWF problems

It is not that one said is stronger then others..It is that People going into groups in any game usually ruin It for everyone else.

objectively a game with an uneven amount of brains and hands between the sides is impossible to truly balance. You can attempt to compensate, but one side will always have a little edge over the other both in terms of general balance and difference in individual skill levels and whatever rng a game might throw at them. I've realized over time that asymmetrical is a genre that needs to die a quick death if you're concerned about balance.

Thank you emperor xi jinping but it doesn't work that way in the ussa yet (they're probably getting to work on it right now though). Nobody tells me how to use my computer unless they want to pay for it. When they try to, they get uninstalled, trash reviewed, and I never touch their garbage again and if possible I get a refund or when on an account on their own site (so I won't lose other games or money) or if they had the gall to do it on their own launcher with nothing lost along with it I'll do a chargeback on the games to boot if refund isn't an option.

I don't get it guys. Why are the queue times so long???

    I was the fourth survivor.

Maybe its about time we start limiting perks for both sides? Stacking second chance perks and stacking slowdown should be a no go.

the solos in lobby should also get pick priority on perks if they do those sort of tourny style limits, otherwise personally if I saw a likely swf player snatched what I needed on top of having to wonder if it would be a selfish or unselfish swf I'd start dodging swf lobbies myself even as survivor regardless of queue lengths. If it got out of hand I'd just permauninstall. Unlike others, I can do it, I went almost 4 years straight without touching or even thinking about the game again until the forced bamboozle on vault spam and pyramid head release last year. I played a handful of times int he past 3 months or so and only a handful of matches usually those times. I've had more fun talking chit on boards about the game than playing it lol (like many modern games). so not a problem cuttin it for good next time they show they'll never learn at behavior.

    Okay, but problem.

It doesn't matter if the solo queue guy can see the SWF. He's still gonna deal with a superbeefed killer and not benefitting from the SWF's communication. Odds are they're just gonna leave the lobby and everyone's going to wait around forever until someone bored/psychotic enough sticks around and just hides in corners because he's at a massive disadvantage.

The dude's still being punished for doing nothing wrong.

then they can just pick a damn 4th up or send one packing and play duo if not solo, or get used to waiting 30 minutes to play since nobody wants to put up with them

  • lol make corrupt's effect baseline, but only for 30 seconds without the perk and on one less generator ... or what others suggested (possibly too complex for behavior though) rummaging through chests with an extra 2 or 3 on the map and generator parts are randomly placed in a couple or few chests to create slight delays before gens start getting slammed. even just one single part needing to be found immediately solves the issue with some matches spawning 2 or 3 if not all survivors near multiple gens they immediately begin working on. If they are run off of them, that's time needed to travel tot hem with a great deal of progress on them, time spent kicking them all, just way too much free time immediately thrown into progress on multiple generators giving a big headstart. that's the main issue, if that is handled well, then it's up to the killer once they get a chance to get moving to keep them off the rest of the game. that is the reason why corrupt is so good outside of needing time to set up traps.

  • just realized this thread was necro'd lol

  • @sulaiman said:

I think players should have a dc-counter in their matchmaking profile, that counts the % of games they dc. According to those numbers, they are placed in a dc bracket, like <1%, 1-5%, 6-10%, 11 - 25%, 26-75%, and finally, 76-100%. This should be recorded, but become active only after like 20 games, and then they are matched with players in their same dc-bracket.

This way, they can ruin the games for one another, and keep decent players out of it. Even if you have connection problems, you are ruining the games of others, so you have to solve that problem. Go go up a bracket, you need to learn to keep playing your game.

The only problem is, that this could be exploited by killers. A killer could dc if he is loosing anyway, and go to a higher bracket, which might lead to games where is is playing more like 3v1 instead of 4v1. But i think that might become boring very fast.

actually some games do that, iirc league though it always had leaver buster which could lead to temp and in extreme cases perma bans, eventually created a low priority queue or whatever people called it that matched consistent rage quitters together until they went a long time without doing it. the irony is that those would be precisely the kind of matches that would make a lot of them want to rage quit lmfao. LUL

  • sabo is good if you're in swf, solo you might not get much good use out of it that doesn't get you punished for it. I would go for dead hard fromd avid over meg's sprint burst unless you're good at managing the exhaust since dead hard gives you much more control over itself. fixated I think might be a nice pair with sprint burst, but I'd rather go for dead hard myself even when using it. dead hard is my favorite exhaust perk, but on a couple of maps I'd actually prefer balanced landing because it's way more effective on those. dead hard is universally helpful though and if you don't have it you should get it while still grinding out perks since you'll also get wglf along the way.

Iron will from jake is the perk that you can get a ton of use out of, and if you come up against spirit it directly counters her when she's using her power. combined with dead hard it an save you from a hook sometimes with both providing distance and stealth options together.

Calm spirit is good against the plague's perk that makes you scream when somebody gets incapped near you, along with any other perk that makes you scream and against the doctor's abilities' portions that make you scream. But it can also feel like a waste to bring along for many, many matches in a row until you get another of those kind of games. If you're in swf they'll know when you're down and getting hooked s it's only a positive against those killers, perks or kind of situations and you won't need most aura perks with comms so you could have a slot to spare. I guess overall your friend is right about jake's perks being better, i unlocked them first on my ps5 acc and still left meg's since I'd really only use adrenaline and as a solo I could be just as likely to have to get the hatch than a gate if I'm not dead already. So jake's calm spirit and iron will helped me more on thata cc along with dead hard.

  • I've only heard of rust after some specific patch along time back barring the use of a very specific model of mouse and if some peoples' claims were true banning for it also in a few cases (probably unbanned later but you could not expect the dbd devs to help you in the same way as they've stated many times in teh past). As long as whatever functions your mouse has are Built into it and you do Not use any software/app associated with it you should be fine. Either the mouse will work, or it won't or some of it's functions may not maybe (but they all should if it's built into the mouse itself and does not require any app on the pc).

You will probably be disappointed if you watch it on YouTube.

The players are Rank 1 and they are playing very weird.

Everyone on the hook stays there until they die 97% of the time all games, because the killers are not leaving and camping even on the first hook with 5 gens left.

Even when the killer is not standing there, everyone is still doing gens.

    Really painful to watch.

I'm guessing it's announced only on Japan's DBD accounts and was made especially for them.

sounds like how I'd expect some of the more hardcore teams from there to play going from things I've heard about other games lol. the sweatiest sweat factory over here probably wouldn't be half the nightmare the best teams from the hardcore gamers there might be to deal with if some of the stuff I heard has been true. On the flip side you would be beaten quickly with much less f*ckery and griefing going on, more of the play to win style of sweaty. I would take that over time wasters out to mess with ya since it gets it over with.
