This is why I have a hard time giving up WGLF when playing survivor. But I think the stacks of WGLF needs to apply to other tasks, and not just unhooks and protection hits. Since there's four survivors, getting unhooks isn't always a guarantee since someone else could always be closer. Maybe escaping a chase, or pallet stunning the killer could also count?

Yep, rank 15-13 was when I started getting that crap, too. Then I got a long string of green and yellow ranks. Enough that I ranked to green, where I got a lot of purples. Finally, I hit purples and started getting greens and yellows again. Damned near ranked into reds with high purple rank, and started getting a ton of 4-reds on teams.
Nope. To hell with that. Put my rank back down. I'll be the first to admit I'm out of my weight class.
Before crossplay, I was high yellow or low green, as I don't play every night and it isn't my main game. Since crossplay, I've shot up the ranks. I could never do it before crossplay, and I left the game for months and didn't return until the day crossplay went live. I am not suddenly purple ranks after five months or so away when I could never do it vs straight PC survivors before that.
We definitely need a functioning MMR system.
Yeah like you I don't play this game every night, so I'm a casual player of DBD at best. But every time I play a killer match, my rank 13 constantly goes up against survivors that are far outside my skill level. And I threw in the towel that night when I played against two rank 1 and a rank 5 in a single match.
I don't know if the MMR will ever return, but I hope it does, because this matchmaking is making many players like myself turn away from killer altogether.

Right now my favourite Myers combo is deselecting him and picking GhostFace... :(
Seriously though the only strat I found the thing that worked was running pop and endfury, but at that point I'm getting carried by the fun and interactive perks and not really using Myers' power because it's so underwhelming, and it's also a build I guarantee would be even better on GhostFace. I used to main Myers but Jesus it's been so long since he's had something interesting added to him that he's become so stale to me.
Tell me about it. Not only does Myers need a buff, but the matchmaking ensures that you can be completely outmatched. This was my last match as Myers, and I mean that both literally and figuratively. Usually I don't care how matches turn out, but it doesn't pay to be a new or a casual player of DBD. Until the MMR gets turned back on, I think I'm done playing killer for awhile.

Botany knowledge combined with We'll Make It makes for incredibly fast heals! Pulling people off the hook already gets you 100% increase healing speed for 90 seconds, and having Botany knowledge on top of that makes it all incredibly fast!
-
Nope. But to make up for it you get a brand-new executioner skin!
If patches were released as often as new cosmetics, this game would be in Tip-Top shape.

It's not that they think people are stupid or can't understand what numbers mean, but rather that it's information overload. You have to have a drip of information for the player otherwise they're going to get overwhelmed and not remember anything. It's like when you're explaining a board game for the first time. You start with the basics and rules, then get into the advanced stuff later. If you start explaining every edge case and exceptions to rules you'll just burn-out the new player.
Another thing is that they won't know how good it is. Say it's a killer add-on that just gives you 5% movement speed increase at all times. Veterans will drool at this, that's absolutely insane. But if you just started playing.. that seems low. They might be used to DOTA where that % increase isn't a lot. And on the other hand, the Rat's Tail add-on gives a 50% increase in speed for opening portals, which seems insane when you don't know the Demogorgon that well.. so the "slightly" gives an indication that this isn't that great.
Figuring out what's good and bad is a key part of learning how to play the game. The easy solution to this is to have the ALT key show the actual numbers, so you can understand exactly what the thing does when you understand the game first.
I understand what you're saying, but displaying the numbers are more preferable than simply trying to summarize everything in one word, especially considering that add-ons stack on top of one another. Do two slightly defined add-ons equal one moderately defined add on? No one knows because the game doesn't tell you.

Sadly, they aren't wrong. That actually was one of their stated reasons. Along with: it would confuse players. Because apparently they feel that their player base is stupid and has never handled numbers in video games before.
Yet they seem to have plenty of time to devote to making skins. Who needs a fix to the hill glitch when you can get a new executioner cosmetic? ๐๐

I've seen this question pop up every once in a while. Their response tends to be stuff like The numbers will confuse the some players, the numbers will make it seem worse than it actually is, and/or It would take a long time to edit all the text IIRC
If being concerned over how long something may take to change or edit is the primary reasoning why something doesn't get changed, may explain in great detail why other things like bugs and highly requested features never seem to happen.

I like that in the official wiki you can hover the mouse over the term and it has a hot tip popup that gives you the number. It would be cool if they has similar hot tips hovering over โmoderatelyโ in the game.
Having to seek out information about DBD elsewhere because the game doesn't provide that for you is one of the most frustrating things about this game. It's one of the main reasons people watch streamers. If it had a practice mode that would be one thing, but it doesn't do anything to help people that are just starting out or just simply want to practice.

Legion's detection abilities in Feral Frenzy is already pretty powerful. Not only can he see the heartbeat of every nearby survivor after the first attack, but the survivors are highlighted as well. Seeing scratch marks on top of all of that isn't needed.

Me too. I play red rank killers every match from different platforms than me (PS4) and theyโre so toxic. I get tunneled practically every match. Idk what platform these killers are from, but Iโve never seen this much consistent sleazy playing since I started playing Nov 2018.
I'm on PS4 as well, and the only reason I keep cross-play on is because it does shorten the queue times for both survivor and killer. But the downfall is that as a solo survivor I keep getting high rank killers with a rainbow matchmaking setup, whereas my rank 13 killer gets high-ranking survivors. There's no in between.
-
@absolutelynotokay said:
Super broken for survivors I know. You canโt play solo survivor at all! Itโs horrendous. Every single game survivors just get absolutely destroyed. Iโm sorry I donโt find a game fun that allows the killer to win just because heโs by himself. I think this game demands too much teamwork to have poor matchmaking on the survivor side of things.
Ever since cross-play was turned on, my solo survivor matches have been like this. I'm not saying that the matchmaking was stellar to begin with, but at least the MMR made things better. It wasn't perfect, but it was better than this.

Addons are stronger than his actual power
^This. This is why The Wraith is such a weak killer. A Killer's base kit should be enough to carry them through any match, but The Wraith needs add-ons in order to be effective at higher ranks since he has zero map pressure, and is very weak at looping.

The other night my team of purple and green ranks repeatedly went up against high ranking killers. No joke, most of them were rank 1, and this went on for three hours straight!๐
Honestly that experience completely broke us. We've been playing Fall Guys for the past few days and it's been the perfect counterbalance to DBD.

Same experience here as a red rank survivor. I get matched with low levels who are too scared to do a gen or are literally crouching across the map in the corner. ๐คฆThey throw, can't run a killer for more than 5 seconds, and don't try to save. It's very frustrating. It's not EVERY match, but a LARGE portion of my games are like this. Some nights it's all night and I have to just submit to the DBD matchmaking gods and turn it off. And when you finally get matched with other reds who are your rank, boy can you tell! I only play solo cue.
Adopting a carefree attitude is imo required when playing DBD. These days I don't care about ranks or pipping, all I care about is having a good time, which sadly can be a rather tall order with this matchmaking system.

Yep, I've got same as Purple/Green rank survivor last night. I spent several hours trying to do "Escape as obsession" challenge with no luck. Either I don't escape or I'm not obsession. I equipped OoO to make me obsession, but then got tunneled by higher ranked killers. OoO on solo queue is self inflicted cancer. Got paired with red rank killers half the time as solo surv. Going to have to throw a bunch of games just to derank and see if it helps with matchmaking.
Purposefully deranking sucks, but it's the only way to help guarantee that you don't get worked over time and time again. I don't mind going up against someone that's better at the game than I am, all I ask is that we're all on the same skill level.
-
Last night my team and I faced the worst night of matchmaking that we have ever had. Our ranks are comprised of purple and green ranks, yet we consistently faced rank 1 Killers repeatedly last night. We got worked over by high-ranking Killers for three hours straight, and it completely broke us! It got so bad that we turned off DBD and turned on Fall Guys instead. Fall Guys was fun, light-hearted, and the matches were instantaneous and short. It was the perfect counterbalance to DBD.๐

and I know why the power is ending when you miss. It's done like that because when the Legion came out people abused the lunge of Feral Frenzy and they were making more distance than without lunging. But I don't know why it's depleting it entirely.
I think the devs were right to make Feral Frenzy end when trying to attack the same survivor twice, and I'm also fine with the power ending upon a missed attack. I just never understood why the entire power bar has to deplete. I think what you suggested is perfectly fine in that the power ends, but it doesn't deplete the entire bar.

That depends on region, daytime and role. I think not many killer opted in from console. Also I think most platforms had a surplus in survivor, atleast I read on this forum that wait times for survivor on PS4 were horrendous.
I can only speak for pc in eu on Killerside:
Before:
Long in the afternoon, fast in the evening/at night
After:
Better overall
I play on PS4, and I can confirm that survivor wait times are indeed abysmal! Cross-play has helped to shave a few minutes off of that, but the queue times are still 7 minutes or longer for my region (CST) in the evenings.
-
@burt0r said:
I don't believe that was the goal of crossplay. Maybe they hoped that with increasing numbers at all individual ranks, the system would be able to put them together but I think the algorithm itself is broken because of qol patch or something.
That's what the MMR was supposed to fix but that algorithm had its own problems, working for only a few to half of the community. (Saw posts praising and damning the MMR alike)
Yeah I do hope that they manage to fix the MMR because while it wasn't perfect, it was better than this. But probably its biggest advantage was the fact that each killer was ranked differently based on how much you played with them, which made tackling a new killer a lot easier.
But with matches being put together based on your rank, you would think that now that the game has a much larger pool of players to pull from thanks to cross-play, that you would see matches a little bit more even. Sadly though, it's worse then ever.
-
Mobile also has a practice mode. How is it that DBD proper hasn't received one in over FOUR YEARS???
It's not everyday when you wish your console game was more like a mobile game.๐

@SweetTerror @Yamaoka @SenzuDuck The first match lost me a pip, the next two gained me a pip. I'm in greens, btw. Nothing huge as far as rank.
I don't get it. I don't want to rank up this fast. I feel like I'm gaining ranks faster than I'm actually improving at the game. And this isn't a thing against console player "skill" because I also know their FPS is a mess right now, which makes a huge difference. I don't even care about rank anyway. I just play to earn BP and for the horror-slasher fantasy.
Having a carefree attitude is the best way to play dead by daylight. These days I don't care about ranking or pipping, I'm just out to have fun. I do agree however that it's far too easy to rank up in this game, especially if you are playing survivor. It's one of the reasons why the devs created the MMR because ranks don't necessarily correlate to skill, especially with survivor since there's three other people that can help to carry you and watch your back.

Actually the game is balanced...
How is SWF balanced? I like playing with my friends in this game (who doesn't?๐), but SWF means that you are constantly being fed information on the Killer at all times, not to mention that those teammates that died can still feed information back to the ones that are still standing by watching other players' camera feeds.
I've literally played games where the friend that I was playing with died, but he still managed to tell me where the hatch was because he saw the hatch in another player's camera feed. How is that balanced?
-
Losing the full feral frenzy bar on a missed strike is what frustrates me the most with Legion. Legion is a lot of fun to play, but having to rebuild your entire special meter bar for an attack that DOES NOT instadown survivors is a bit much.
-
@Kilmeran said:
Have had Demo sitting at Level 1 for a while. Might finally give him a shot tonight. Man, am I gonna get rolled. ๐
I know the MMR wasn't perfect, but the nice thing about it is that it made tackling a new killer a lot more bearable since each killer was ranked differently based on how often you played with them. Now that the game is back to matching games based on your rank, I'm too hesitant to play with a killer I've never play with before. Which is another perfect example of why this game needs a practice mode like it's mobile counterpart has.
-
I agree with what others have suggested in that console players should be given an option to cross play with other console players only, as the FPS and optimization would be more on par with one another.
I'm no expert, but I'm no potato either. I've noticed that when I go up against a PC killer I stand little to no chance at looping effectively since they never have to worry about fluctuating fps that could dip into the single digits, which sadly happens far too often (and I have Google fiber!).๐
-
I always thought the game should have something in place that gives each individual survivor something special that makes them stand apart from everyone else. Because I do agree that they are just skins once you've unlocked their teachables, but as others have stated balancing the game around that could prove to be very difficult.
SWF is already insanely overpowered, especially when equipped with the right perks, so I can only imagine the nightmare that would be in store for a killer that would face a full team of Claudettes capable of healing a bit faster, or a full team of Laurie Strodes with object of obsession that provides a little bit more information, etc.

I've also so far not seen anyone DC unless they
a) get downed/hooked first
b) get two hooks in a row
c) fail to loop the killer
d) get hooked in the basement
Maybe it's all just "network errors" but they seem to be pretty conveniently happening whenever a survivor fails at something.
I know the network error is a legitimate issue, but like you players were disconnecting in my games upon getting downed or on their way to their death hook. So while I won't rule out a network error, it's highly unlikely that was the case.

That network error has happened to a friend of mine as well. The fact that it's punishing players is yet another ridiculous bug that the devs need to fix.

I only wish there was a protection pip in store for everyone who stays in a game while others DC. I just don't think it's fair disconnecting players can make you and others de-pip.
Yeah there should be something in place that either makes the match easier for the survivors left standing, or at least be given a guarantee that you won't depip. Because in that third match when I had two teammates disconnect it was f'n ridiculous! The fact that me and another survivor were left to repair five generators was absurd!
-
While I personally have not had that happen to me, it's happened to plenty of friends that I have played with. It's ridiculous to think that such a major bug is still alive and well within this game. Well on second thought, not really. If the devs would put out hotfixes as often as they do new skins, DBD would be in Tip-Top shape!
-
DC is running rampant like never before. One out of every three games I experience someone disconnecting. It's crazy. But what I want to know is what the hell happened to the bots? Bots were supposed to come into the main game like it did in the mobile game to take over for people that disconnected. But all talk has gone real quiet on that subject. I wonder what happened?

@Seanzu said:
EGC was never meant to pressure survivors in a way that effects their choices, it was only added as a means to make sure the game came to a definitive end and prevents survivors from sneaking around the map once all is said and done, there is nothing wrong with 99ing gates, if you don't like 99d gates you should open one yourself.
I disagree. Being able to 99 the exit gate is no different than when survivors could originally do that with hooks. It was a completely broken and unfair advantage given to the survivors. Such an exploit prevented killers from being able to hook the survivors. Survivors shouldn't be able to disable a hook with a single tap of a button, nor should they be able to open up the exit gate with a single tap of a button.
Now I will say there's nothing wrong with choosing to 99 the gate as I feel that should still stand as a valuable tactic, BUT if you choose not to open it, then the gate should regress. And telling the Killer that the only way around that is to abandon their objective and open the gate themselves isn't the answer.

I burnt out about 4 times playing this game and everytime I come back its always better than I remember. I recently came back after 2 months just because I heard of mmr. Sure it wasn't good but was entertained.
Point is that it's always healthy taking breaks and realizing that it is all better.
It's definitely important to take breaks, I couldn't agree more on that! Unfortunately those breaks are what proved to be detrimental to DBD. Every month there's a rank reset, and should you stop playing for a number of months you'll be reset all the way back to 20 despite not being a true rank 20.
This is why having a ranking system built around skill was important to have. Hopefully the devs can fix the MMR and get it back up and running.

I'm just ready to give up entirely. Gens are popping withing one to two minutes. I can never hit anyone. I can never keep up with these people. It's getting to the point where I don't even want to play anymore. I love this game it was fun as hell at first. But now it's all the same stuff constantly.
Nothing I'm doing is helping at all, and half the time I don't even find a single survivor for the first three quarters of a game cause they are so damn good at hiding that I only see em when they dash for the door.
I just want a fair game where I don't go in thinking, ah yes I'm about to lose again. Better get ready to be laughed at by people who've played this game for years and I'm just learning. I just can't wrap my head around what they are doing yet and I feel as if I'm always at a disadvantage. At this rate I'm liable to just give up entirely and say well, there's a game I can't play cause I can't even get a chance to play or try cause every one of them is rushing Gens and has so much experience under their belt that what's the point in trying?
I felt the exact same way as you when I started, and hell I still kinda do. When I first started playing this game I started playing as The Wraith, and I was having a lot of fun, but as I moved up the ranks so too did the survivors, who had much better perks and much better items to counter the perks that I was using. Not only was the difficulty getting higher, but so was the toxicity. It's not in every game, but far too many people like to teabag and say mean things in the end game chat because they either enjoy it, or you didn't play the way they wanted you to.
The only way to hold my own was to unlock teachables from other killers and survivors, so that's what I did. I have the best teachables unlocked with characters that I like to play with the most, but I can still easily get worked over thanks to the joke of a matchmaking system that the devs have in place.
My advice would be to adopt a carefree attitude. It's what I had to do in order to start enjoying this game. Like you I find this game to be a lot of fun, but there's also far too many frustrations that can make anyone stop playing. When the game fires on all cylinders it can be a blast to play! And that's what I look for. I don't care about ranks, I don't care about pipping, I just care about having fun. And if I want a match to end early because survivors are being toxic, then I can do that as a killer by opening the exit gate, or sacrificing myself on the first hook as a survivor if I'm going up against a toxic killer.
Matches are short in general, but you also have the power to make them shorter if you choose to. Don't let toxicity get the better of you. Just brush it off and move on to the next.๐
-
I'm on PS4 as well and when cross-play first went live I noticed a considerable difference in the wait times as I was able to hop into matches fairly quickly. But since then the wait times have been pretty much on par with what it's always been when I was just playing with other PS4 players.
And I completely agree that the last thing console players should be doing is playing with PC players! The other day I went against a rank 1 PC Billy that just wrecked my team. The matchmaking wasn't fair since none of us were red ranks, but given the better optimization and FPS that the PC player had, we didn't stand a chance.
-
There have been so many supernatural DLC threads that there's no way the devs haven't noticed! ๐ Obviously a supernatural chapter would make a lot of sense since you can have both survivors and killers, but it all depends on how comfortable the CW is with licensing their characters and how much they would charge for it.
-
Whispers is phenomenal on doctor with his shock therapy, and as others have stated it's definitely handy to have when it comes to finding the last survivor. But otherwise it can be a bit of a pain since Whispers does take into account people you've hooked, so it won't accurately tell you who's nearby another hooked survivor.
With so many other better tracking perks like thrilling, BBQ, bitter murmur, etc, Whispers - while nice - isn't as accurate. Even at level 3 the radius is it tad too big.
-
On one hand, THANK YOU!, on the other hand it's ridiculous that players have to be the ones to fix this. ๐

Yeah that's the downside with this game. Sometimes you can get games that are really fun(!), even if you lose, but the matchmaking ensures that most of the time you're matched with people far outside your skill level. I don't mind losing, but I don't want to be steamrolled either.
