If you guys weren´t aware, the DC penalty has been disabled for the time being because a lot of players (including content creators on stream) got hacked and were forced to dc, resulting in extended bans for the victims.

DC penalty, as much as we need it, won´t come back until the DEVs have figured out a way to prevent widepsread hacking and cheating.

I'm aware of the hacking exploits, but if the game code for disconnect penalties prevents DBD from being hackable (which is concerning enough), then it's time to start looking into other ways to compensate for the DC's.

  • Players have been asking for changes that continue to fall on deaf ears. Players have wanted a training mode for years, and yet the devs continue to say that it's not a priority. Players have been begging for a quality matchmaking system, and here we are four years in and that's still not the case.

DBD is manageable should you be fortunate enough to invest thousands of hours in, otherwise it's an absolute nightmare for newer and casual players.

Speaking of DC's I had an interesting match tonight... Playing Billy, one survivor went afk as soon as I got my first hit and stayed afk for the rest of the match. I left them alone after they got unhooked in case they'd come back, but they were unhooked pretty much right in my face, and the Jake decided to sabotage the hook right in my face. Got an easy down on him, and he DC'd. Just a few seconds later I see scratch marks. I followed them straight to a locker, so of course I checked the locker - pulled out a Feng (if I remember correctly) and another instant DC. Now I'm getting a bunch of messages during the match, and I think these pics should tell you the rest lol

It amazes me the lengths people will go to be hostile to one another. I know it's few and far between, but this is just one of the many reasons why DBD has a hard time acquiring new players. Sorry you had to deal with that.

Amen. I've taken a break as well. The grind is stupid. I was basically treating this game like a part time job. When it's fun it's very fun. But lately it just hasn't been all that fun.

Exactly! DBD can be an absolute blast to play! When this game fires on all cylinders it is hands down some of the most fun I've ever had! But the skewed matchmaking, the bugs, the massive grind, the disconnects, and the stress of it all takes a toll on you. Every time I get eager to play a killer match, I get so apprehensive that I ultimately bow out. I hate the way this game makes me feel. 😔

  • Matchmaking, hands down. DBD is incredibly punishing for new and casual players. For years the community has asked BHVR for a training mode, but year after year the devs continue to say that it's not a priority. And so the rank disparity between player levels can average ten or more levels higher than they should be.

I played a survivor match last night where thanks to SWF matchmaking our team of 7, 5, 4, and 16 was matched against a new rank 15 killer with nothing more than three level one perks to his name. Needless to say we all escaped, and the poor guy only managed one hook.

Bugs and glitches can be annoying, but the matchmaking makes DBD completely unplayable.

    I was playing solo btw.

What surprises me is that ps5 is worse in specs than xbox series X and has the same price, like sony, are you okay?

The Xbox One X was more powerful than the PS4 Pro, but it didn't matter because Sony had the better exclusives. At the end of the day it's all about the games, not the hardware.

  • I'm on PS4 so I can't contribute to the Among Us comparison, but I do agree that comms in DBD is way too OP. I think offering a buff in baseline perks and bloodpoints is a reasonable suggestion.

But to be honest, I would be thrilled if SWF no longer had the ability to still communicate to their teammates after they died. Being able to view other players' camera feeds, and feed back that information to the the rest of their party should not be allowed.

There are many things that should be changed when it comes to SWF, but ceasing communication after death is the one thing that should go. I realize that doesn't stop people from using other apps, but it shouldn't be allowed in the game.

  • Yeah the MMR isn't running right now. But this is exactly why I hate playing killer right now.

  • Hopefully the MMR will work the way it's supposed to when it's back up and running.

Playing killer is a sweat fest for me in the evenings too, and in order to play during these times I have to adopt a care free attitude. Not caring about winning or pipping can make a world of difference.

  • Not in my neck of the woods. Every sever isn't the same.

  • No joke, last night I had booted up the game and I was in the killer menu with my killer selected and all my perks ready to go, but then I was reminded of all the recent games that I had that highlighted the poor matchmaking, the bugs, and the toxicity, and it made me turn off the game and watch people play it instead.

So you're not alone. There's a reason why survivor queue times are so bad right now, and that's because people have stopped playing killer in droves.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1669085#Comment_1669085

Spot on. Totally agree. Whilst peps can learn from playing opponents better than themselves it's likely to just be discouraging when peps get utterly stomped. Before crossplay and MMR queue times at red ranks were around 15mins or more a match. Odd that suddenly it's reduced to near instant / few minutes. Even with a larger player-base it would still have approx. the same distribution of skill and role preference. IMO, this was initially covered up by the MMR mess, but now it is disabled we are seeing that faster mach making = frequently imbalanced matches (more often low rank killer vs high rank survivors). Since deactivation of MMR, the only low rank survivor games vs high rank killers I've seen been swf rainbow (smurf) squads. I've never seen a screenshot of x4 Rank 12 survivors vs Rank1 killer. I therefore think that because more killers have been mismatched against better survivors it could explain why there has been an increase in camping, tunnelling and moris as these are easier and faster ways to counter being outplayed compared with improving gameplay. Well that's my theory lol (sorry for the rant).

The devs have said that the MMR is coming back, unfortunately we don't know when. Personally I'm waiting until it's back up and running before tackling killer again because as I said before at rank 12 I get matched with red and purple rank survivors, and the last thing I want to do is tackle new killers like the Blight (or Killers I've never played with before) whilst being expected to compete against people far more experienced than me.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1669015#Comment_1669015

It might also explain why many killers (at lower ranks) get matched with swf survivors at higher ranks - there simply are not enough skilled (red rank?) killers.

This is precisely why I have stopped playing killer. Once I hit green ranks, I get matched with red and purple SWF, and frankly I'm sick of it. There is value in playing against people that are more experienced than you, but I don't need to be wrecked over and over either.

  • Being matched with people of similar skill. That's not to say that there isn't value to be had in playing against more experienced players, but no one likes to get wrecked over and over.

Got it! As gen defense, which ones work besides discordance? I was using tinkerer but someone told me not to use that...

Tinkerer is actually a really good perk since you have no terror radius, but it's usually best used on faster killers, or killers that can teleport. Discordance is a good perk, but it's only viable if more than one person is on a gen. Personally I would use PGTW. Instant 25% regression is a powerful thing. I want to suggest Ruin, but without Undying it will most likely get cleansed sooner than expected.

  • If you like playing with Spirit, then definitely use Stridor as it can help immensely in locating survivors when phase walking. But for fun if you want the ultimate pallet destroying build, I would go with Enduring, Spirit Fury, and Brutal Strength. This way stuns don't affect you, and you're faster at breaking pallets. But for the fourth perk I would use a gen defense perk, because a good SWF will fly through the gens.

I'm going to say something simple, but true. The overall community for DbD is great. It is full of good sports, polite adults, and those who simply follow the rules (don't cheat). Many people would be surprised, or argue with me about this but I assure you that this is 100% true. The negativity that one experiences before a match, after a match or here on the Forum are actually a very vocal minority. It had to do with human psychology. We don't remember the average, passive, or simply good. Things which stand out in our memory are bad things and truly great things. In other words, we are conditioned to remember extremes.

In the 80s, this was called the Geraldo Effect, i.e. where shows which focused on the negative (if it bleeds it leads) would warp public perceptions like a fun house mirror. If you take the time to actually track your negative after game chats (for example) I suspect you would find (as I did) that most of them just give you a "GG" or nothing is said at all. Every now and then you get a bit more in the kind words department. Overall, if you track the next one hundred matches you will find there is a largely silent majority of good Players/Community.

In regards to behavior inside the game, as long as it is a legal, valid tactic it is not, by definition, "toxic." You should, in fact, delete that word from your vocabulary. It is meaningless. The utter subjectivity of it makes the word itself destructive to this community. The only behaviors inside the game that matter are:

    1. Do not cheat, either with hacks or lag spikes.
    2. Do not disconnect; if you start a game, finish it.
    3. Be humble in victory, and gracious in defeat.

Entirely too much time is spent talking about what is acceptable behavior (for both Killers and Survivors) within the game. It is a waste of time. Do not get sucked into these discussions. You worry about what YOU do in the game. The choices other people make are not good scapegoats for your own failures, nor are they anything you get a say about. Don't let that vocal minority lure you into a false set of morals and morays that actually have no validity. Play hard in the match and be nice outside of it. That is all that is required of anyone.

I agree with what you're saying, but this was never a discussion about bad behavior or toxicity. I'm simply bringing to light why the mechanics of the game are frustrating. The player base is actually a highlight of DBD. Sure there are the occasional bad apples, but every game has those, and they're few and far between.

I would rather see short/long cutscenes or stories than actually playing, since I doubt that'll look good or be interesting to play.

Unless there's a separate spin-off game which is already made to be played in a certain way, then I'm down for that. For example seeing a spin-off about Benedict Baker and his investigation&first time in Entity's realm and until his last notes before his disappearance.

With BHVR already creating some pretty impressive animated paintings that coincide with the lore, I could see a campaign working well since that's what Twisted Metal utilized.

  • I bought the rift pass with the last Tome, but life got in the way and I was unable to get my money's worth out of it. Waiting until you hit 70 is the smarter way to go about it.

Because of the random nature involved in your build... Whether killer or survivor. You cannot prepare for every type of match. You may build for a perfect survivor match against the DR. and end up playing against the trapper. As killer you may set up for gen rush and get a depip flashlight squad.

Frustration is part of it due to your own assumptions pre match. Fixing that turns the game rather bland.

But that's precisely why so many gamers dc. No matter what you bring into the game, it should be enough to help you in the match, but it's not, which is why all the best perks are locked behind a paywall. The devs know this, which is why instead of creating a game that is perfectly balanced, they would rather instead you spend money to obtain the best perks so that you can last longer in the game.

Playing as a survivor with strong perks and a great medkit is hardly effective against a killer with iridescencent add-ons and/or an ebony mori. Likewise it's hard to be a killer against a strong SWF that is using strong information perks like OoO, and strong items like keys that allow more than one survivor to escape.

Veterans of DBD struggle with these kind of things all the time, especially at higher ranks, so imagine what it must be like for newer and casual players.

  • @Dzeikor said:

lets be honest, the only reason we play dbd is there is no real competition or any game that does better where dbd lacks yet,I dont know why honestly,I guess no one else in interested in making a decent game of this genre to compete againts.

It's true, there's nothing else quite like it. We put up with the frustrations because there is value and fun to be had with DBD, but DBD was designed without a quality matchmaking system. Which is why to prevent the game from stagnating after four years, BHVR is heavily focused on the MMR.

DBD continues to grow it's player base, but new players will only stick around if they're having fun. Without a fair and balanced matchmaking system, new players will continue to look elsewhere.

I think you may have missed the context of frustration being an intended part of the game.

My guess is that frustration is meant to be one of the parts/feelings of a true horror experience. In all great horror stories, for the main characters and villains things usually don’t go their way or as planned. I think the devs want to have that as part of a gamers playing experience.

    Does this make sense?

Mcote literally said in that interview that "this game drives on frustration. You're supposed to be like, [raising a hand in the air] 'Ugh!'."

I don't find there to be a barrier breakdown in language or translation. He spoke very clearly and very well about what gamers should expect from their game.

  • @Kumnut768 said:

Not for a while, but it will be a dissapointment still because mmr can't work for dbd

I really do enjoy playing dead by daylight but it's true what they say that this game is incredibly punishing for newer players and casual players. The matchmaking is abysmal with this game.

The streamer Jaee uploaded a video of a few matches to YouTube today, and he was playing with some friends who like him were all red ranks (three rank 1 and a rank 4), and yet the killer was a rank 9. Needless to say it didn't work out very well for the Killer.

My matches as killer tend to unfold like this. It's easy to say "don't let it get to you", but when you're playing a game that doesn't have fair matchmaking, not caring can only take you so far.

  • I think looping would be more exciting if people knew how to loop better. This is precisely why DBD needs a practice mode. It's hard to practice and get good at something when higher skilled players walk all over with you.

  • Inner strength was always a weird perk for me personally. It's awesome how fast it heals you, but the amount of time spent getting the perk up and running (finding a totem, cleansing the totem, finding a locker, etc) would rather have me just using a medkit or self care.

And worse yet, you'll want to leave totems standing should you want to use the inner strength ability more than once, which goes against the whole argument of "do bones".

  • Doctor and Legion are the best Killers to farm bloodpoints with, otherwise I don't usually play with them. Both of them don't have good map pressure, and a well coordinated SWF will walk all over them.

Playing against them isn't that hard either. Both killers need the survivors to stay close for their power to be effective, and so long as players separate from one another, then the entire game becomes a 1v1 match, making it very difficult for the killer.

  • This is why I'm so worried about playing with cross-play on. The advantage about playing on consoles is that you don't see these kind of exploits, but after having been paired up with PC players thanks to cross-play, I've already seen my fair share of hackers. It doesn't happen in every match, but when it does it's annoying af.

  • @Blueberry said:

I wouldn't mind if it gave stacks for picking people up off the ground. Would be some extra encouragement when running the perk.

I'll also say that people are vastly underestimating 100% heal speed on slugged survivors, that is insanely strong. I would run that even if it didn't have a BP component on it. Might even be too strong honestly.

Considering how long it takes to heal someone from the dying state, it should absolutely grant you a token. Why this isn't a thing I'll never understand.

  • @DWolfAlpha said:

Considering that I've been able to circle a gen that was almost complete and finish it with the killer next to me, a few seconds can mean a lot.

In certain situations I can see that, but if you have a good swf team or the survivors continue to play smart, a few extra seconds doesn't mean a thing.

  • @gibblywibblywoo said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1656432#Comment_1656432

I expected at least a 2-3% increase minimum per level. I always thought Thana was a pretty trash perk that had usage in niche builds. I won't even consider using it now.

That's what I was expecting as well. Thana is supposed to encourage survivors to heal so as not to suffer reduced action speeds, but a 1% buff is not nearly enough.

  • @SonicTheRestaurant said:

    Is bubba any good then?

If you haven't purchased Bubba yet, then I would highly recommend getting him since he has one of the best perks in the whole game. DBD lives and dies on blood points, and BBQ is the best way to go about getting those blood points.

As for ghostface? Like you I'm interested in playing him because I haven't done so yet either, but I've watched plenty of streams and YouTube videos. His power has a long cool down, and it's also countered by spine chill. He can also easily be knocked out of his power should any survivor be looking at him long enough, and that includes hooked survivors. This is why DBD desperately needs a practice mode. The last thing I want to do is practice with a killer I've never played with before, all-the-while being expected to compete against highly skilled players.

  • When BHVR revealed that survivors would no longer suffer from reduced healing speeds against Thana, but would instead suffer from greater affects to action speeds, needless to say I think we all assumed those numbers would be greater than 1%.

Literally adding just a few more seconds to a generator? Why even bother?

  • @KingFrost said:

from Level 1 to Level 50 takes approximately 1,740,000 bloodpoints.

You have to do this three times, so that's approximately 5,220,000 bloodpoints.

At level 50, you should have roughly 64 tiers of perks (61 + the starting perks starting tiers). I could be off on this, but I think you start getting 2 perks at level 40ish? Anyway, Survivors have 80 perks and killers have 72. For survivors that means 240 perk tiers, and for killers that means 216. So at level 50 for survivor you'd have roughly 176 tiers to go. And for killer you'd have roughly 155. It takes approximately 54,000 bloodpoints to level up at level 50. You get 2 tiers per level, so for survivor that's an additional 88 levels and for killers it's an additional 78 levels.

So going by this, it'd take approximately 4,752,000 additional BP for survivors, and approximately 4,212,000 additional BP for killers.

You're looking at around 9,972,000 Bloodpoints for Survivors, and around 9,432,000 Bloodpoints for killers.

These are just rough guesses, of course.

If you want to add in the cost of unlocking every unteachable (without using the shrine) you'd get about 1,272,000 for each player.

So Grand Total for Survivors would be around 36,684,000 BP.

And Grand Total for Killers would be around 32,328,000 BP for killers.

If you want to P3 and give every perk to every killer and play just ONE survivor, it'd take somewhere around 215,892,000 Bloodpoints.

If you also want to P3 every survivor, though, it'd be around 398,592,000 bloodpoints.

So let's say 400,000,000 to be on the safe side. Assuming an average of 20,000 BP per match it'd take you about 20,000 games. Half of that if you use BBQ and get full stacks every game.

This is why I haven't prestiged any character. When you factor in the amount of perks that need unlocking, along with the RNG nature of the bloodweb, prestiging a killer or survivor is only feasible if you have hours upon hours to invest into DBD. I'm not that fortunate.

  • The miserable matchmaking and never ending supply of bugs is what did it for me. Between work and parenting I only have a few hours a day to play games, and the last thing I want is to be going up against people that are far more skilled than I am. Sad to say this wouldn't be much of an issue if the devs would just give us an actual single player/practice mode which is something that a majority of the DBD community wants. It's proven to be extremely successful on mobile, so there's no reason for the main game to not have it.

Maybe I'll come back with the MMR is back up and running, but right now my level 14 killer is tired of going up against red and purple SWF.

  • This is precisely why I haven't prestiged any character. Between working and parenting I only have a few hours each day to play a game, and spending hours grinding bloodpoints isn't exactly my idea of a good time.

To be honest I'm fine if they want to keep the grind unchanged, but given the amount of perks now available they definitely should be having bloodpoint events more often. Maybe perhaps a double bloodpoint weekend once a month or something.

  • DS was designed as an anti-tunneling perk. If the survivor wasn't immediately downed upon unhooking and is able to freely start working on other objectives, then DS should immediately end.

  • I wholeheartedly agree that the devs do not deserve any hate speech, but as many others have pointed out, there is a lot of valid criticism to be had.

DBD is a 4 year old game, and yet the amount of bugs and glitches that continue to exist means they don't thoroughly play test their own game. That, or they figure they'll fix everything on the back end.

Recruiting new players is nearly impossible given the state of matchmaking, and while I understand that the survivor base makes up the majority of the players within the game, DBD wouldn't exist without it's small and dedicated killer base. For all the nerfs that keep being applied to Killers and killer perks in general, the exact opposite is happening with survivors. Case in point - PGTW. POP is getting nerfed because they feel that killers are being given too much time to do other things while POP remains active, yet somehow that same logic doesn't apply to decisive strike?

Because of choices like this, Killer mains feel like they're being overlooked and ignored, and I think they have a point. Being an ass won't do you any favors in getting that point across, but when you feel like you're being ignored, sometimes people feel that being an ass is all they have left.

  • There's no telling when the MMR is coming back. BHVR likes to plan everything around chapter updates and mid-chapter updates, so my guess would be when the mid-chapter update goes live.

  • @SadLegion said:

You can have fun if you stop taking the game too serious. Like you should understand that sometimes you cannot win in this game. You can get bad maps like Ormond and survivors running strong builds. Or if you play bad killers with no map pressure you gonna lose even on better maps if survivors are good. Or you can make mistakes yourself. Just do your best and move to the next match.

^This. I know it's easier said than done, but given the state of matchmaking and the never-ending supply of bugs, you really need to adopt a carefree attitude when playing dead by daylight. Not caring about pipping or winning can make a world of difference. I know the devs have stated in the past that the average game should result in two kills and two escapes, but the borked matchmaking system ensures that doesn't happen anymore.

  • @ad19970 said:

I doubt that will cause any trouble. Swf survivor teams that want to play like that are doing it now before the buff, I doubt we'll see a lot more of that with this buff.

I am honestly disappointed that the exttra effect of WGLF doesn't even come near the effectiveness of BBQ and Chili for killers. At least from the sound of it. It could need a lot more than increased healing of downed survivors.

Yeah I was hoping to get a token for healing someone from the dying state. That takes a lot of time to do and I think it's only fair.

  • True. That would put good use to a perk like that, but it would also make the extra token for WGLF useless.

  • @BigTimeGamer said:

You are scared of flashlights? You know you can look at a wall...right?

😄 Yes I'm aware LOL. But I also know what it's like to go up against a four-man team that are carrying all flashlights. Needless to say it's kind of hard to find the right angle when you got a toxic four-man flashlight team.

  • I stopped playing until the MMR is back up. As a rank 13 killer I keep getting matched against purple and red rank survivors since the game no longer matches you based on your killer rank.

And just the opposite proved true with survivor. I played with some friends the other night. All three of us are ranked between 9-11, but despite that we went up against a rank 1 Killer in 3/5matches. It's not that hard to deduce the outcome.😕

I'm tired of the imbalance, and the constant bugs certainly don't help. I play DBD for casual fun, so maybe the MMR will get me back, maybe not. I guess we'll see.

    I mean am i wrong?

If you don't have enough chase skill to back Legion up they are terrible

If you are able to get hits at most tiles just using mindgames they can snowball pretty hard.

Are you saying being able to get hits against survivors using just your m1 isn't skillfull?

I don't think you're wrong at all. Killers shouldn't have to rely on perks from other Killers to be effective, and Legion's base kit is practically worthless on its own.

  • Also while Legion isn't the strongest killer, they're definitely one of the best Killers to farm blood points with. I've had games where I only managed to get one kill, but I still walked away with almost 30,000 blood points because that's how good Legion is at racking up points. And as you know if you have BBQ on top of that, it can make it a rather lucrative payday.

So even if you're not winning games, just look at them as a way to get faster blood points.

1 … 29 30 31 32 33 … 46
